Maytag MVWB950YG Bravos 4.6 Cu. Ft. GraniteTop Load Washer - Energy Star
1. It uses waaaaay too little water. When I bought it the salesman told me that the machine fills to the top of the clothes plus 1 gallon. That is simply not true. The clothes stick out above the top of the water by 9 inches. The water level is slightly adjustable by the soil level setting but this only changes the level by an inch or two. I have experimented for hours to try to increase the water level the machine is determined to keep the level low probably so that they can get their highest-level energy star rating. Now you may think that it is a good thing for it to use too little water but when you see how harsh it is on your clothes (item 2 below) and how wrinkled the clothes get (item 4 below) you will change your mind.
2. It is extremely harsh on clothes. When I bought it the salesman told me that the machine is more gentle than older style agitator machines. That is completely untrue. This washer pills clothes visibly with every single wash. Brand new towels appear old and worn after a few washes. Here is why it is so harsh. The clothes throughout the load are wet but they are not submerged in water. Only the bottom of the load is submerged in water. The washer tries to pull the clothes up and down into and out of the water at the bottom. It does so by twisting and spinning them, similar to the way clothes are twisted when you wring them out. This is harmful for clothes. When clothes are submerged in water (as in older washers) the water acts as a cushion against rubbing. The water is moved by the agitator and the clothes glide around in it. The higher the water-to-clothes ratio the more gentle it is on the clothes. The lower the water-to-clothes ratio, the more tightly the clothes are packed and the more abrasive the rubbing is. This washer is the most extreme case of a low water-to-clothes ratio because the clothes aren't even submerged at all. They are wet and rubbing hard against one another. To make matters worse the wringing action, which is done very tightly, is very harmful for anything but the sturdiest of fabrics. Imagine taking a wet shirt and twisting it as hard as you can from end to end in a wringing action. This is what clothes endure during each load.
3. There is no way to wash delicates in this washer. For all the reasons mentioned in 2, there is no setting on this washer that is acceptable for delicate clothes. The handwash cycle on this washer is much harsher than the normal cycle was on my old washer. None of my work clothes can tolerate it.
4. Clothes come out incredibly wrinkled, twisted, and knotted. As mentioned in 2, this washer needs to twist and knot items to move them in and out of the water. When the load is done they remain this way. Bras are all knotted together in one giant mess that takes forever to undo. I have to first shake items out to untwist them and then dry them on a higher heat setting than I would otherwise use to get the wrinkling out. Use of the lower-speed spin cycle doesn't really help much because the problem is largely due to the washing portion of the cycle. The high-speed spin cycle only sets the twisting in even harder.
5. There is no way to change washer settings after the load has started. How many times have you started a load and then decided, "oops I'd rather use handwash" or "I'd rather use high-speed spin after all". Well forget about changing your mind on this washer. This washer goes through an extensive calibration cycle at the beginning of each load to figure out how much water to use. The calculations it does during this time are based on the cycle settings such as soil level, load type, etc. It can't let you change settings once the calibration cycle has started because its calculations will get messed up. Maytag says that all you need to do is press cancel and restart but what makes this so incredibly annoying is that cancel drains all the water from the washer. It often happens to me that I want to change settings after the washer is partly full of water plus soap. To make a setting change I have to throw away the entire load of water and soap. You wouldn't believe the amount of water I've wasted because of needing to press cancel.
6. The soak cycle wastes water and soap because once the soak cycle is complete there is no way to continue using the same water to complete a wash. It gives you no option but to drain the entire tub after the soak cycle. Then when you want to wash you have to refill it again and add more soap.
7. The calibration cycle takes a long time. As mentioned in 5, this washer goes through an extensive calibration cycle at the beginning of each load to figure out how much water to use. It takes about 5 minutes and makes the cycle take that much longer with the only benefit that it is deciding on the "optimal" amount of water to use. I would much rather have the level manually selectable and the cycle 5 minutes shorter.
8. The electronic smarts are very limiting and annoying. The salesman told me "this washer is so great that it won't allow you to damage your delicates". What he meant is that the washer limits your options depending on what cycle you have selected. So for example, if you have the washer set to the handwash agitation, it won't let you use high-speed spin or let you use warm water. Or if you use the soak cycle it wont let you use hot water. Or if you use the soak cycle there is no way to get delicate agitation. There is no way to override their setting limits. How ridiculous! I know better than some engineer at Maytag what options are appropriate for me. To think that they advertise this as a feature?!?
9. The lid locks. Sometimes when washing delicates I like to be able to keep the lid open during agitation so that I can assist with special pieces. This washer won't allow any cycle to continue with the lid open although I did find a way to bypass the lid lock function.
There is only one positive thing about this washer. I like the glass lid because it lets me see how harshly the washer is twisting my clothes.
Some reviewers here have commented that maybe I did not properly follow the instructions about how to distribute clothes within the washer. That is not true. I read and follow the instructions perfectly it doesn't help.
The first day after I got this washer I tried to return it but the store wouldn't take it back. I called Maytag and begged them to tell me how to increase the water level. I tried to pay a service person to increase the water level. I kept being told there is absolutely no way to increase the water level.
I am an electrical engineer and I got so frustrated with Maytag that I spent about 8 hours working out a way to make the water level on this washer adjustable. It requires adding a potentiometer (variable resistor) to the control board that is accessible from the top of the washer. The potentiometer adds an offset of water to the level. Right now I have it set to add an extra 10 inches of water so that the clothes are completely but just barely submerged. It makes a huge difference in wear and tear on clothes and makes the handwash cycle usable. The washer is now just barely bearable. If you want to use my technique for adjusting water level, email me at sueonline@gmail.com and I'd be more than happy to share the method with you (for free). I even have pictures showing the control board modification.
UPDATE: During the past 12 months I have recieved about 500 emails from people who purchased this washer and are searching online for how to increase the water level. They come across my review and email me. I hear the same story over and over again from them. They bought this washer and hate it fiercely and want help increasing the water level. I am including below some examples of the email responses I've gotten to my review. I have not edited these emails these are the exact words of others.
"I was so happy to find your review of the Maytag Bravos washer on Amazon. I too have this washer and share the same frustrations. I have missed my "old fashioned" washer since the first wash! My family and I spent the holidays with family out of state who had a machine that actually fills up with water and allows you to manipulate settings. This was the highlight of my vacation...lol!"
"We read your review on the Bravos Maytag washing maching and totally agree. I have had mine about the same amount of time and I am completed frustrated. It just doesn't wash the clothing. If you would be so kind as to send us your fix, we would greatly appreciate it. My husband is a mechanical engineer and will happily rip into it; otherwise, I may just go back to my old machine in the basement."
"I agree with your entire post! I never thought to ask can I soak clothes in this produce? I have tried to soak socks and there was not enough water to cover them. This washer and dryer pair does not work as advertised. Could you please send the water adjustment and computer map."
"Hello,I read your review on amazon.com and would really appreciate your information on how to increase the water level. I bought the machine 5 days ago and completely agree with your review."
"Kudos to you for a comprehensive break-down of frustration of the Maytag BRAVOS! Bravo for nothing this machine is the bane of my existence. It is ruining our clothes and gone are the days when we could simply dry laundry on the line now every last bit has to be 'fluffed' in the dryer to remove the annoying wrinkles! If you would kindly provide the details of how you 'outsmarted' your maching re: water level, that would be great!"
"could you please send me your instructions on how to fix my piece of junk washing machine?... is this something that i could have an electrician fix easily?... thanks so much for your help..."
"Your description of the water level problem is almost word for word my own, ion all its detail. If you can help, I would like to try to make the fix -assuming a simple home workshop kind of guy can do it with your help."
"Thank you so much for your Amazon review of the Bravos....I am not an engineer but I could have written your review! Dear Dumb Engineers at Maytag Who Have Never Apparently Done Laundry In Your Lives: WATER CUSHIONS THE CLOTHES!!!!!! WATER RINSES THE SOAP OFF!!!!! WATER HELPS REMOVE THE DIRT!!!!!! This washer is like taking your clothes to the river and beating them on a rock. My garden hose is outside the laundry room door; I have considered filling the washer myself! I have problems with stains, smells, towels getting "pulls". Delicate? Handwash? Good luck! And why does the "soak" cycle agitate?!!!"
"I saw online your review of the Bravos XL washing macine. We share you critic of this Maytag model. Could you please email us as to how you modified the Maytag to allow a higher water fill level. It would be much appreciated. I would like to modify the Maytag to make it useable. Thanks in advance."
"Thanks for the post on Amazon about the Brovos XL Washer. I'm very frustrated with all the points you laid out. If I could increase the water level that would be a great benefit and maybe I can live with the forced settings."I agree on a number of points w/the original author. My clothing was quite twisted. Also, I simply LOVE when a salesperson tells you the water level adjusts to "your load". That statement has proven to be BS. Given these issues, I still love this washer compared to the devil spawn front loading Bosch I had. THAT machine drove me mad for 6+ years. Nothing is as good as the old days when appliances lasted 15-20 years. This is the first time I've actually purchased an extended warranty on a stinkin' washer/dryer because I don't trust ANYTHING available to the average consumer these days. Pretty pathetic, considering the cost of appliances nowadays and their nonsensical "energy" saving features. These so called energy saving features are pretty much useless.

In replacing our Whirlpool washer, we decided to try a trusted name in the industry, Maytag, for our next purchase. What a huge disappointed from the Maytag I owned 15 years ago. The washer is suppose to save money by using less water and result in reduced drying time. The only thing this washer does is stain clothes because the detergent doesn't adequately distribute during the wash cycle. Also, it is very hard on clothes even in the delicate cycle. I have tried every tip in the manual to try and get better results but no luck. This is absolutely the worst appliance I have ever owned and so regret my purchase 6 months ago. My daughter purchased the same model at the same time and also has the same complaints. If you are looking for half cleaned clothes that are twisted to pieces, this is the machine for you. AWFUL MACHINE....save your money and frustration. Maytag should be ashamed to put their name on this piece of junk!!!!!Read Best Reviews of Maytag MVWB950YG Bravos 4.6 Cu. Ft. Love this machine. The only con is the water level is controlled by the machine and that sucks. As far as I know that`s true of all the new models. It is the stupidest idea in the world. My last Maytag I controlled the water level. Other wise it`s great. Clean clothes-a timer to know then it`s done. Some reviews complain about the balance factor. That depends on the idiot that installs it. It does not a have a balance problem if a competent delivery person sets it up right. My old Maytag got out of balance when we moved it. This new one added the fabric softener just right. It washes them clean and doesn`t tear them up. Gentle and delicate clothes get clean. Bells and whistles for everything. I suggest you check the other reviews at different stores. Most are positive.Want Maytag MVWB950YG Bravos 4.6 Cu. Ft. GraniteTop Load Washer - Energy Star Discount?
Horrible washer, not enough water for clothes, twisted clothes, holes in t-shirts.I had a Neptune front loader that had a class action suit and it was 20X better than this washer!

The continuous, loud high-pitched whining which can be heard several rooms away was not part of the item description. And it barely hits the selected temperature. I tested it using two different digital thermometers. Not even close. I give it one stars since it actually does hold large bottles. If you can leave it sitting in a cool basement with lots of sound insulation, it's a good buy. Otherwise, skip it. purchased Feb 2012Read Best Reviews of Vinotemp 28TEDS 28 Bottle Wine Cooler Here
Unfortunately I have to recommend that you pass on this wine refrigerator. The size was perfect and it looks nice but the first one that I received was dead on arrival. I called Vinotemp and a replacement was arranged and received quickly. Fast forward nine months the replacement has stopped working. Like one of the other reviewers, I have a clicking sound coming from the back and a flashing red light I hope that my repair is as simple as a $2 part from Radio Shack. Vinotemp said that my control board is dead and I can buy and self install a replacement for $70 including shipping. I have a refrigerator in the garage that has been working for 40 years what do they know that Vinotemp doesn't? Everyone at Vinotemp that I have spoken to has been very nice but sadly it seems that they make a sub-par product.Want Vinotemp 28TEDS 28 Bottle Wine Cooler Discount?
My unit stopped working after a year, producing a clicking sound when plugged in. Thanks to an amazon reviewer for the VT-12TEDS, I learned that the likely trouble-maker was a burnt out capacitor on the board. By opening the back of the wine cooler, I could indeed see that there was a bad capacitor. I replaced this with a 35V 1000uF capacitor from Radio Shack ($1.99), and now the unit works well again!Very happy with my purchase. Quite and one of the only units I found that is thermoelectric and has a stainless door.Fits 28 bottles and its already all filled up, with a few extras on the counter. So far so good.

Maytag UKF8001AXX PuriClean II Refrigerator Cyst Reducing Water Filter, 1-Pack (Discontinued by MFG
We have a family of six and we drink water almost exclusively, so I went ahead and changed the filter at six months just like the owner's guide recommended. However, I could see no evidence that the filter was near its end of life and am convinced that I can get more use out of the filters than the suggested six months. I will try to keep an eye on things, but without a little window I really have no way other than flow to know what is going on.
And that is why I gave this a rating of four stars. The filter seems to work wonderfully and replacement is a breeze, but I would be happier if I could look at the state of the filter while it is in use.My Ice Cube make was having major problems. Ice Cubes were hollow and Ice was sticking on the White Prongs that pop the cubes out. I called Amana and they were no help so I figured that the Cube maker was not getting enough water flow.
I replaced with this filter and now the Ice Cube maker is like new and the water shoots out of the dispenser like crazy. What used to take 25-30 seconds to fill a glass of water now takes 3-5 seconds.
So if you are having Ice Cube issues or poor water flow buy this.
It's a little expensive for a water filter but it's worth it.
Oh and the water tastes good too.Fast delivery of an important feature of the family refrigerator. This is a water filter that screens particles and odors out of chilled water dispenser. It is sturdy, easy to install and very reliable. Buy it, you'll be satisfied.
Frigidaire/Kenmore PureSourcePlus Ice & Water Filter (WFCB, 46-9906)This product is the same as the original and I think it works fine for me and my family. This is a very expensive item for what you get, and it certainly doesn't last as long as they say it does. The taste of your water coming through this filter is great for the first month or so, but then the quality drops noticeably quick.
I think the price of this item is unfairly high, but once you buy a refrigerator that needs them, you're stuck. You either buy the filter or put up with nasty tasting water from your refrigerator spigot.
A good rule of thumb, if you're buying one filter, better buy two, because you'll need a new one quicker than you think.

I will be putting in on either amazon or ebay soonI bought this to replace my original Everpure H104 filter. Unfortunately, this filter was a rather loose/wobbly fit in the collar of the filter system, so I had to return it and buy an Everpure model for a much higher price. Frigidaire PureSource WFCB Water Filter
The advertisement states you will receive a "Frigidaire PureSourcePlus Ice & Water Filter (WFCB, 46-9906)". The product did not come in a Frigidaire PureSourcePlus package...just plastic wrap. I installed the filter and the water came out jet black. I ordered two of them so I tried the second filter, and the water was jet black again. This has never happened with Frigidaire filter.
I checked the invoice and it said they are Frigidair WFCB/RC-200 "Compatible" Replacement Regrigeragor Water Filters. If the company is selling a "compatible" filter, and not the manufacturer's filter why does the Amazon site describes and has a picture of the Frigidaire filter?
I e-mailed the company and they replied "Thank you for your order and email. From your description your new filters need to be flushed."
I ended up spending a lot more money and bought a Frigidaire filter but the water now does not taste the same.
This has been my worst online purchase experiences with Amazon.
In addition, while we did not request a refund the company subsequently wrote back and stated that they would credit our account since we were not happy with the purchase. While the company's customer service department was prompt and responsive, the Amazon website description should reflect the item being purchased in order to avoid confusion. This is not a Frigidaire filter. I asked waterfilteronline and amazon to stop selling this item as a Frigidaire filter. Not only does the picture show a Frigidaire box but the description of the filter states Frigidaire. The filter I ordered did not come in a box nor did it have any certification stamp. These filters will fit in your refrigerator, if you are willing to risk your families health on an unknown manufacturer. In Waterfiltersonline's response, they claim that they have sold thousands of these without any problems. Waterfiltersonline did promptly refund my money but have not stopped selling off brand filters as the real deal and have not removed the picture of the filter that they do not ship.

Item is not a Frigidaire brand filter, as was advertised. At least the receipt acknowledges that it's a "compatible" replacement. It wouldn't be so bad if they had been honest about it. When you buy this item, make sure you are buying directly from Amazon and not another seller. The filter actually sold by Amazon is the genuine Frigidaire filter and comes in it's proper box. The other sellers are selling knock off filters that may or may not work.If it says it's being sold by someone other than Amazon, look under the More Buying Choices and select the one from Amazon.com. Amazon will usually choose the cheapest seller for you by default, but in this case, that is NOT what you want. The bad reviews on this item are from people who ended up with knock off filters from non-Amazon sellers.
Want Frigidaire PureSource WFCB Water Filter Discount?
The advertising and picture are misleading. This is NOT an OEM Frigidaire WFCB as pictured. It is an after-market filter. No idea as to the quality, as there are no ratings on the package. The water quality is important to me or why would I be buying a filter at all. Also, as another customer stated, the water initially comes out black. May just be carbon residue? but I have never seen another filter do that.In fairness, the seller issued a full refund with no hassle, but the purchase was a complete waste of my time due to Amazon allowing this to be advertised in this manner.
Even worse, after bringing this to an Amazon rep's attention several months ago, they have done NOTHING to change the seller's listing.

I realized that that the item is too small. I just do not know if there is a way to return it. I would never buy anything on Amazon -because you really cannot judge before you look. The bottom freezer is fine, but the actual refrigerator is small. I did not buy LG because I expected this one to be large and the one I saw there was actually bigger. It is moderately loud. Still did not decide what I am going to do about it. In Costco you can get a refrigerator normal size for just 399. the problem is that I wanted to have freezer at the botton. Now I need to struggle how I can fit everything there. The refrigerator seems too small even just for one person. I paid for delivery 175 dollars and the refrigerator 450. They say it costed over 1000 and got discount. I wish I saw the previous review before and knew how this refrigerator looks because no store in LA carries those and there is a reason. NO good.Sunday, December 29, 2013

Replacement part solved our problem of the air getting into the freezer through the ice shoot which was causing ice buildup around the ice tray where the ice drops into the ice shoot.GE must have some type of defect with this part, because I needed to have it replaced a year ago for the same issue. If your ice chute is frosting up, shine a flashlight down the chute inside the door and check to see if any light is coming through the flapper from the outside. If so, your flapper is likely warped and will need replaced. Luckily, this part is relatively cheap (compared to an $80 service call minimum) and if you search for the part number on YouTube, you can find a video that explains how to easily replace it. Takes maybe 20 minutes. I ordered this part through a third-party (Pandora's OEM Parts) and it arrived quickly and was a genuine GE replacement. As another commenter pointed out, it's a shame GE didn't make this part easier to get to since you have to replace it so often!Wednesday, September 25, 2013
Maytag UKF8001 Pur Refrigerator Cyst Water Filter 1-Pack
got a refrigerator that uses one of these filters and the water's been coming out slow then it's probably time for a new filter. One word of advice: use a big water pitcher for the first use of the dispenser after the filter change the pressure has to readjust and it will spit out a few huge blasts of water that will overwhelm your normal water glass. After the couple of big blasts though, you get constant good pressure, better than you remembered was even possible after the gradual slow down with your old filter. This filter is rated at 750 gallons capacity. If the consumer uses one gallon of water per day in the form of water from the refrigerator dispenser and ice from the ice dispenser, the filter will last 750 days; i.e., just over TWO years. In general, there is no reason to replace the filter yearly, unless you have a really yuccky water source.
In a small household of two adults, the filter should last considerably longer than two years. Furthermore, with the addition of a filtered water dispenser at the sink (such as a GE undercounter unit), the refrigerator filter would be functional for a few years. The undercounter units have a quite large capacity and some use two filter cartridges.

I purchased a Maytag refrigerator from an authorized Maytag dealer in October 2005. I was informed, at the time of purchase, the filter will last 12onths( or very close to 12 months). There is an indicator on the refrigerator that tells me when to change the filter. About a year went by and sure enough the light went on ,I bought a new filter from the Maytag store, and all was well. I followed this every year until 2009. In 2009 I found the filter on Amazon and ordered it. It was $10 cheaper and I did not have to drive 40 plus miles to the Maytag Store. The filter delivered was a 6 MONTH FILTER. It said it on the box. Amazon was excellent with refunding my money. But I still needed a new filter( I thought). So off I went to the Maytag store. The manager of the store sold me the 12 month filter and informed me that this is the only one he sells and that the filter is marked replace 12 months and not to be fooled because the packaging is very similar. Coincidentally, Amazon refunded my money, but the company that filled the order didn't want it back,so I left it in. Sure enough, 6 months later, the light went on to change the filter. I had the one I purchased from the Maytag Store , installed it, and just a couple of days ago, the light went on to change the filter,12 months later. So folks, the 12 month filters are out there. The Amazon description of the filter does not show both sides of the filter and does not show the box. That is where the you will find out whether it is a six or 12 month filter. This filter lasts in our Maytag Ice20 refrigerator exactly one year. It is easy to change. It does make the water taste better, so about $32 per year isn't too much to pay for something we use all the time. I've noticed that this same filter comes with different part numbers and names under the general title of PuriClean II. You may pay more or less to get the same thing, so shop around.Saturday, August 31, 2013

Loved the idea of saving money on the filters but these were a big mistake! We absolutely hated the taste of the water with these. It was a big mistake and we couldn't wait to get the actual Whirlpool ones. I will say the seller was great about the return. I'd buy from the seller again but not this product.Read Best Reviews of AquaFresh Replacement for Whirlpool 8171413/NL200 Filter, 3-pack Here

GE WR55X10942 Refrigerator Main Control Board
The problem was as follows. We have a GE Profile fridge, Model PSC23NGSA (from 2005) with the vertical side by side doors. (I think these are called "French doors".) Neither the fridge or the freezer was staying cool. The fridge was making a clicking
sound. Opening the doors, the display on the front was flashing "HRS".
We did some basic troubleshooting. Put the food into coolers to try and save it as well as clear the vents. We unplugged and plugged the fridge back in. We made sure it was not in demo mode. The thermostat had been replaced in the past so that rules that out.
Doing some web searches showed that this has happened to others as well. The original board was recalled by GE on November 7, 2006. There was a letter that was sent out to technicians about this but not to customers. We called GE at 18003861215, option 3. We stated what the refrigerator was doing. We brought up the recall and stated we wanted this part.
Initially, GE was going to ship the part out in 3-5 days. My wife ordered them to overnight it. With President's Day, we got it the following day due to the post office.
Installing it was fairly straightforward for me. Below are the steps I used. Your experience may be different.
Tools required: socket wrench, SAE socket set, needle nose pliers, light
Steps:
Unplug fridge from wall outlet
Move it to where you can get at cover plate
Remove cover plate using the socket wrench
Make a diagram or take pictures of which connectors went to what locations on the board
Unplug connectors. You may have to use the pliers.
Remove old board. It rests on these plastic standoffs
Put in new board
Plug in connectors into new board.
Move fridge back in to place
Plug into wall outlet
I found a parts diagram online. If you've ever swapped a motherboard in a computer, you can definitely do this. The instructions will walk you through it. If you have the model with the freezer on the bottom, one would cut some wires before installing. The instructions go over that as well. After you are done installing the board, it will take about 2 to 3 hours to get back cool. This even in an empty fridge.
I've had it installed for just over a week now. The fridge is back in service. My wife says the freezer seems to be colder. Overall, frustrating, but resolved now. Hopefully this will help someone else out there.I got a free main board replacement PN: WR55X10942 on Aug 22, 2012. The customer service person was aware of the main board issues and asked for my model and serial number refrigerator to see if it was covered. My fridge is a stainless steel 25 cubic foot side by side, model GSH25JSRF SS with a ship date of Mar 2006. I was informed that the main board was covered, but because it was outside of the 5 year replacement period I was told that the board would be provided free and that I would be responsible for the $100 service call to replace it. I am a mechanical/electrical engineer and feel very comfortable replacing the board myself (as should anyone reading this) I told the GE representative that I have read several posts on the internet where people have opted out of the service call and installed the board themselves. I asked to opt out of the $100 service call and fee, requested them to ship the board to my house, and told him that I would install it myself.
The board could not be any easier to install just 2 screws to remove the cover on my model and 5 or so connectors to remove and plug in on the new board. Here is a how to install it on a different model fridge
My fridge had the following symptoms:
The Water dispenser stopped working and would not dispense water about 4 months ago (this is related to the main board from what I have read)
A week ago the fridge would start clicking with a frequency of about 1 click per second for hours on end until the compressor kicked in and the unit ran. This cycle repeats every few hours. During this clicking I noticed the interior refrigerator lights dim, a weird buzzing sound coming from the box in the top left side of the fridge (defroster unit?) and the fan for the condenser would jerk and turn about 10 degrees, and the compressor and condenser cooling fan would not run. The clicking seemed to be coming from relay largest relay on the board. The relay is manufactured by Omron and has a part number G8P-1C4P. It has a 12VDC coil and a NO ( normally open) contact rating of 20A and 250V.
During my google searches attempting to find the root cause of this mode of failure, so I could attempt to fix the board on my own, I found this letter advising technicians of the main board recall. It was sent from the National Service Manager, Richard Zutterman, dated Nov 7 2006In my google searches, calling home depot, and calling GE I had about six 1-800 phone numbers to call. I decided to try and call the National Service Manager Rickard in the above mentioned letter and got his voicemail. On his voicemail he asks people calling about the main board issue to call 1-800-749-6629. He must hate that people posted that letter on the internet. I called that number. Several people on the internet have commented that GE customer service was very good. I was shocked because dealing with them over my front load washing machine back in 2007 was a nightmare. I work with a lot of very bitchy ladies that had to take customer service training as a department in response to complaints from other departments in the company that had to work with them. I am happy to report that my interactions with the GE customer service today were "A+" quality. It could not have been any better and I am being very critical about that.
I think our customer service consultant would agree, the GE customer service person I talked to was outstanding.....simply perfect. I am not just saying that because I got a free board.....but it does help I got exactly what I wanted.
If you have a dishwasher manufactured between Dec 2006 and 2010 then do not call GE about it to see if it is under recall. It is locking up their phone lines right now (I was on hold for 20-30 mins) go to

My 2 year old bottom freezer refrigerator started to have the classic symptoms, not always cooling, one second clicking sound when not cooling. Some times the refrigerator cooled but not the freezer part. Sometimes neither part cooled while the fridge started to click. (Clicking is from relay noise).I ordered this universal board for my fridge from Amazon.com. I took advantage of the FREE shipping. It arrived quickly in a timely fashion. It was a sealed GE factory board and not a brand X board. First class! The board came with clear instructions to be used for your particular refrigerator.
In my case, I removed the small rear panel on the back side of the fridge to expose the board. You then unplug the fridge, pull out the connector plugs from the board, remove the ground wire under a screw, remove the board off of 4 plastic standoff spacers, install the new board onto the spacers and then plug in all the wire connectors onto the new board. My new board had many more parts on it then the old board. You cannot plug the wrong connector into a wrong socket. Each connector has a different number of pins on it so any one plug will fit into only one socket.
In some cases a wire needs to be cut on one of the plugs per the instructions, but for my model this was not neccessary. Also, for BOTTOM FREEZER refridgerators, you need to take the lower panel off exposing the compressor and check if you have a start capacitor on your fridge. (The diagram shows you where the start capacitor would be located if you have one). If you have one, you need to cut a ground wire off a plug. In my case no wire needed to be cut as I had no start capacitor on my fridge. In short all I had to do was to swap out boards on the fridge and then put the panels back in place with screws.
For tools I needed a Phillips screw driver, but to remove the old board a pair of needle nose plyers helped removing the old board off the stand off legs as they needed to be squeezed before the board could be lifted off the standoffs one at a time. There are 4 plastic standoff legs holding the board in place. I didn't need to cut any wires but if you did need to cut one or two a small wire cutter would be handy. Otherwise a pocket knife would do the job.
If you follow the clear instructions you won't make a mistake. In my case I could replace the board again now that I did it once in less then 5 minutes. Doing it the first time, so you don't mistake, should take you no more the 15 to 20 minutes being very careful.
One last thing, THE BOARD FIXED THE REFRIGERATOR! (Please understand after reoplacing the board and turning the fridge on again, once plugging it back into the wall, will require hours of operation before the fridge and freezer are cold enough to turn the compressor off. In my case, with an empty fridge, I got tired of waiting to see if it would turn off after three hours of operation watching it. When I checked the next day, it was cold and not running. Everything was working just fine. It took a long time before it shut off even when the fridge was empty. (So be patient).
You can do the repair yourself and save a lot of money! The part from Amazon cost about half the list price of the board, no tax, and I also saved the cost of the repairman's labor. In my case I had actually called a repairman, two weeks later he had the board but never showed up on his appointment. I fired him and did the job myself quicker and for less money.

Had a problem with my GE fridge, not cooling and acting erratic. After some online research pinpointed the problem to this board..... Ordered from Amazon. Received part faster than expected and as described in the listing it was a Brand New Original GE part still Sealed in the box. Instructions were easily understood and installation was a snap.Want GE WR55X10942 Refrigerator Main Control Board Discount?
Purchased a GE side-by-side refrigerator in 2007. Thing started moaning, howling and we've put up with it for 2 years. Finally pursued a fix by researching online. Turns out the main control board by the OEM (original equipment manufacturer), a subcontractor for GE, used boards that made the fan in the freezer section run at either the incorrect frequency or what I interpret as a variable frequency. Took a chance and purchased the card based on some posts on separate websites about the issue. Card was a success, easily installed with a pair of needle nose pliers and a 1/4" socket wrench. Board came double-boxed with bubble wrap as well. Official GE instructions were included. Quiet has been restored.By the way, GE was no help in this matter. Despite seeing posts online about GE possibly providing new boards, three separate calls to GE were unfruitful. GE asked the standard questions: when did the warranty expire, did I have an extended warranty. The troubleshooting line was not prepared to perform analysis beyond the most basic of issues. The entire GE interaction was disappointing to say the least.
If you have a GE fridge and it moans or howls, consider a main circuit board replacement. Any price under $125 is an easy beat of the prices GE will offer from their own sources.

The reason for 3 stars is the doors are slightly out of allignment. Only one day so far and it does seem to work though. I guess it is better just to spend the extra and get a full sized floor standing model, on that note these are not all that cheap.

The refrigeration works as advertised and the dual zones are good.but... the outer shell is a thin plastic and it arrived with a broken corner.
A 1"x1/2" plastic corner was loose in the bottom of the box but the box was not dented.
I kept the unit because it is not openly displayed. The broken piece was superglued back above the hinge but still shows a crack. We owned this for around 3 months or so and had it on the counter in a utility/ pantry room, just to keep our better wines. Before long it was showing an inaccurate temp reading and the inside temp varied significantly, it then began making a racket (noisy enough to hear from another room), and then it just stopped working. We threw it out in frustration. Perhaps we got a lemon, and in all fairness, we did not contact Vinotemp to see if they would replace it -for all I know, they may have been wonderful to work with. I'm here shopping for another larger wine cooler now as our collection in this home is growing I am reminded by how disappointed we were with this unit.

Samsung RF4267HARS 25.5 Cu. Ft. Stainless Steel French Door Refrigerator - Energy Star</n
- External Filtered Water And Ice Dispenser
- Power Freeze And Power Cool Options
- Twin Cooling Plus System
- Dimensions (WHD): 32 13/16" X 69 3/4" X 36 1/4" In.
When it broke last May, we found that the parts in the compressor compartment were attached with tie-wraps and Sears service were not even able to fix it anymore (because the fridge was cheaply made but also because they are really incompetent).
So when the Sears tech mentioned that KitchenAid has better warranty and after the third unsuccessful repair we decided to replace the Whirpool crap, we went to look for a KitchenAid. But then we learned that they are all made by Whirpool: KitcheAid, Maytag, and some others too. They all look the same, they all have this stupid water dispenser that you have to keep the door open to use it and they are all the same questionable quality as our old fridge.
We finally decided for the Samsung and so far we are very happy with our decision. Even in the store it was standing away from all the others and it was making a huge impression as a product of a different clas.. We have it only for a week now, so there is no reliability proof yet, but quality wise, you can feed the difference immediatelly. Great finish, quiet, everything works pefeect, and the electronic controls are just great. Everything looks like it was well thaught and designed. Nothing was neglected. Not talking about you having 25.5 cu.ft. where all the other brands have only 22 cu.ft.This fridge seemed ideal with all the functionality and deep space, yet compact enough for a Manhattan apartment. But it has some serious structural flaws. Between the cooling cycles it warms up so much that ice cream in freezer melts and the meat (partially) thaws. You can see frost and dew on the bottles etc in the fridge. Then ice maker starts to leak water.
Then everything recools and ice forms again in the ice maker. But because it is formed from the previously melted ice, ice makers gets jammed.
I had 3 different PC Richards technicians come and take a look and they tried everything, including changing the two computer motherboards! But nothing has fixed the problem.
Will try to return it now.Samsung Fridges have MAJOR problems. See this site: http://www.applianceblog.com/mainforums/samsung/26180-samsung-water-bottom-refrigerator. . After 4 years, mine builds up water in the bottom all the time because of corrosion and blocked drains. For 2000 bucks, get another brand and save the hassle and heartache!I own an RF267 Samsung fridge. I highly suggest you search online about problems with Samsung refrigerators that are only 2-3 years old. Ours is leaking water. Our in-laws are having the same problem with their Samsung refrigerator. I suggest you do some research before buying a Samsung refrigerator.I have a small spot that isn't "full width". This is absolutely the best fridge I've found that will fit in the spot. The capacity is huge and the layout is very logical and easy to use.
