It said brand new but looked kind of remanufactured. I put the date on the filter to see how long it lasts.

I was a little bit hesitant to buy this due to the sparse number of user reviews but after receiving and installing my new filter I've encountered no problems and the filter works great.

We'll see how long the new filter lasts.

Water Sentinel WSW-1 Refrigerator Replacement Filter

On this site it says they are tested for ANSI/NSF 42 AND 53, however, when I received the filters, the box only claims tested for standard 42. This is important because standard 53 is for the reduction of Lead, Mercury, Benzene, p-Dichlorobenzene,Toxaphene and Carbofuran. You might not have these elements in your water, but you should know what you're paying for!

The other afternoon the water filter in my KitchenAid refrigerator blew up for no apparent reason. See attached photo. Fortunately I was nearby and able to shut off the water quickly and avoid any major damage, but if I was at work and it pumped water into my house for even a few hours, or traveling for two weeks at a time it could have easily done tens of thousands of damage to my home. I now have four filters left from a six-pack that was purchased recently. Are these filters any good, or should they be tossed and replaced with something of better quality? What suggestions do you have for avoiding this problem in the future, or do we have to shut off the water every time we leave the house?

I have a WSW-1 and the end blew off and started shooting water out the front of the refrigerator and all over the floor. Fortunately we were in the next room when it happened. If we had been away it could have caused thousands of dollars of water damage. In the future I will spend a little more money and get the Kenmore brand filters.

I have used this exact filter for several years in our kenmore frig. easy to change and has never exploded or leaked for me. After reading other reviews, I was worried about others having leakage problems, but I still continue to buy and use them, with no issues.

Also, I agree with the review back in 2010, which said that this is a "taste-removing ONLY" filter (NSF 42 tested). Even though the Amazon ad continues to state that this filter is BOTH NSF 42 and 53 tested... my latest order in March 2012 showed only NSF#42 on the box.

This filter is not a direct replacement for the Whirlpool filter. It is not NSF rated, and has only one filtration element, not the three in the factory filter. They should have made this clear that it was not a replacement, but a less-effective substitute. Perhaps I should have realized this given the price was much less than a true replacement.

Replacement part solved our problem of the air getting into the freezer through the ice shoot which was causing ice buildup around the ice tray where the ice drops into the ice shoot.

GE must have some type of defect with this part, because I needed to have it replaced a year ago for the same issue. If your ice chute is frosting up, shine a flashlight down the chute inside the door and check to see if any light is coming through the flapper from the outside. If so, your flapper is likely warped and will need replaced. Luckily, this part is relatively cheap (compared to an $80 service call minimum) and if you search for the part number on YouTube, you can find a video that explains how to easily replace it. Takes maybe 20 minutes. I ordered this part through a third-party (Pandora's OEM Parts) and it arrived quickly and was a genuine GE replacement. As another commenter pointed out, it's a shame GE didn't make this part easier to get to since you have to replace it so often!

GE SmartWater Inline Filter System (GXRLQ)

This is really nothing more than a taste filter it does a pretty good job of making los Angeles water taste good I use this to run to the water and ice maker in my fridge.

However, doing an actual water test, it does not remove a lot of the dissolved solids and minerals.

The overall system is fairly well made it is easy to change filters and you do not have to turn of the water to do so as the filter head features an auto shut off when the filter is removed.

However, the attachment to the wall is a single screw, and the connectors for the water lines are not as robust as i might like (friction fit essentially but then it IS all plastic and not brass.) this is probably better to use with plastic water line, as the flexibility of the plastic line should reduce stress at the fitting. I of course am using copper line, and thus my concern over the robustness of the fittings.

This is a great option for a fridge that does not have a built in filter. The filter is easy to install and easy to change. Water tastes good. I bought extra long tubing and ran it up to the cabinet above the fridge through a small hole made with a drill. Now it is totally concealed and accessible with a step stool.

Simply put...it works. I had that "Water Hose" taste on Ice due to my lines are all plastic. It went away immediately after installation. I only took one star away because the installation instructions lack detail on where the filter is to be placed. But it was easy if you have plastic line from the refrigerator valve to the ice-maker. Enjoy.

The water tastes great and according to the fact sheets filters out some particles and spores. However, there is a design flaw with this model, after a couple of filter replacements, the nubs at the top of the filter do not reach high enough to trigger the release in the manifold to release enough water and it dribbles out.

This problem happened to me too, but can be fixed with a garden hose plastic washer inserted at the top of the filter. Use a thin washer or a used washer for best results. See the discussion at "FixYa" site, search for "GXRLQR"

We purchased this refrigerator several months ago and have been very disappointed. It is poorly constructed and noisy. The shelves and drawers are very inferior quality and easily broken. There are not enough shelves and they are poorly arranged so we actually have less storage than we did with our old 25' refrigerator. This purchase was a bad mistake.

We got this refrigerator included with our house purchase (the builder was giving out free washer/dryer set but we already had one so asked him to go with a fridge instead).

We have been in our house for 6 months and the water filter needs replaced...normal wear and tear. We like the lock feature on the ice/water dispenser because our 17 month old likes to press the paddles. We have had to take drawers out to clean and it was tricky but doable. The storage shelves in the doors are easily movable and the freezer has worked well so far. We have a deep freezer so only use the small freezer for regular use items.

It isn't the fridge we would have bought ourselves, but for the money compared to what is out there we are happy with it.

One year and one week, just outside the warranty the auto-defrost thing broke. The back of the freezer is covered in frost. The top of the freezer wasn't cold which ended up thawing some chicken which dripped chicken juice into the ice bin. (I know better than storing meat on top but that isn't the point, I will review me elsewhere) Everything in the top half of the freezer had to be thrown out. Ice maker won't make ice now. I believe all the cooling happens in the freezer and then is blown into the refrigerator so all the food in the fridge is bad now. Beside the 1 year lifespan of the product there are some other things that bother me.

The water filter is nothing more than a timer. There is now way of knowing when the filter actually has to be replaced. Family of 12 will get the water filter light at the same time a single will. Water filters cost a lot, 60 bucks for two. Since the water is filtered I wouldn't think it would stain so much. There are big white stains on the drip plate but scrubbing it or putting into the dishwasher won't remove them.

The drawers and shelves in the refer section are very tough to get out.

Perhaps I just got a lemon and am not happy about having to fix a refrigerator after only 12 months. The first month it wasn't even used since the house was new and we hadn't moved in yet. Since then just two adults use it so it isn't getting beat up or anything. I can't imagine the fix to be cheapif I knew how to repair appliances perhaps it could be fixed for a hundred bucks or so but since I can't I am guessing just the repairman coming out will cost that much. Start counting in the cost of lost food and that easily will be over $100 with having to replace frozen meat, meals, mayo, milk, sour cream, dressings...

If this had not broken down then I would give it a three star review. Since it broke down so quickly I would give it a zero if that was an option. Since it isn't and I realize maybe this is just a fluke I will round up to two stars (remembering 1 is the lowest and not zero, if zero was the lowest it would get a 1).

We got this refrigerator to replace one that had been here for 20-30 yrs. Exact same fridge, we really didn't have a choice based on the hole in the wall. EVERYTHING scratches the front of this new refrigerator. Before I even moved in, it looks like contractors propped a broom or something against it which scratched up the front. We put a few magnets on the fridge.... completely scratched up the front!

I love the ice maker and water dispenser. The water runs slow, but we have it set up on a double filter.

Even with all the packing material and plastic films, the fridge had big greasy handprints on the sides when it showed up. I needed to use a de-greasing solution to get it off.

This refrigerator Has serious design flaws in the shelving system. Two of mine have broken in less than two years and I have never put more than one gallon of milk and a few other much lighter weight items on them at a time. The replacement parts for one shelf are between $101 and $120 depending on place of purchase. This does not include the glass. It is just the plastic frame. At the current rate of breakage, I will have between $1000.00 and $1500 in shelf replacement if I keep this refrigerator for 10 years.--Don't buy it--it is a piece of junk and Whirlpool does not stand behind their product if it is over a year old.
