Whirlpool W10135090 Defrost Control for Refrigerator

Reading up a bit on the internet, it seems the Whirlpool Side by Side refrigerators have a tendency for the fridge side light and temperature control panel to go out, with this unit being the culprit. (You'll find it in a small white plastic box, near the compressor, in the back of the fridge on the lower left side). Our fridge was a 2005 model, and the equivalent unit was on a white circuit board, with a slightly different arrangement of the capacitors and resistors compared to the picture here. But, this replacement does indeed work and fit in the white box. It is a fairly quick and simple fix, so well-worth just buying the unit and trying it yourself. Here's hoping with the redesign it lasts a little longer than 7 years.

Avanti refrig arrived exactly as advertised. It was boxed well and shipped in good time. My only complaint, if any, is that the "stainless steel" finish is quite dull and grey in color, but it blends in nicely with my office counter.

The fact that the refrigerator was defective and did not get cold...at all was not as frustrating and aggravating as the subsequent custormer service or lack of it!!! i purchased the same make and model refrigerator at least 6 or 7 years ago, and it is still working fine. So i understand that sometimes these things happen. However it has been nearly 1 month since my initial complaint and the refrigerator has not been replaced. I did receive approximately 1 million emails directing me to contact the manufacturer (Avanti) who sent me back to Amazon; and somewhere along the way some entity named "Evive" became involved...but the refrigerator is still here!!!

I can't even give a review of the product since it was received not working, two and a half months ago, I'll base this review purely on Avanti's complete lack of customer care.

The compressor was bad in a brand new unit but rather than allow us to exchange the thing we were forced to deal with a service company to come out and inspect it. It didn't work for the service tech either, imagine that. Now we were forced to wait 2 to 3 weeks for a replacement compressor. After the 2 to 3 weeks go by, then 2 more weeks we contact them and they magically had just gotten the compressor in so they were setting a time to come repair the unit.....next week. The week of repair finally came 2 more weeks later and the service tech asks me why Avanti are even bothering repairing this unit, his charge for repair plus the new compressor was more than the cost of a new unit.

I have no answer for him but he says he plans to contact Avanti and see what's up. He never calls back or shows up for the repair.

A few days later Avanti calls me and asks for my email address so they can send me instructions to get a replacement unit. Finally!

In those instructions I'm required to peel off the model number label, cut off the end of the electrical cord and send them a check for $10!!!

WTF?? $10 for what? I paid full price and the system never worked. I'm going to mail you ten more dollars?

When hell freezes over.

God help you if you buy from Avanti.

I've never had a worse refrigerator in my entire life! I got a great deal on this fridge 4 years ago. As it turns out, it wasn't such a great deal.

For the first few months, every 3rd or 4th time I opened the refrigerator, the shelves would fall off of the door, dropping all of my dressings and condiments onto the floor. Once, that would be annoying; after several times, I was ready to chuck the fridge. My husband ended up taping the shelves on with electrical tape and that solved that problem.

After about a year, the door hinge began to bend. We didn't have heavy stuff in the door nothing more than normal. As the door bent, it started getting caught on the switch that turns the light off as the door closes, causing the door to not close. To solve this problem, we taped part of a clothes pin to the door and it closed just fine.

The freezer was a huge problem! It NEVER SEALED COMPLETELY! For years, we've had slimy popsicles, fuzzy ice, and ice cream with a strange texture. You could tell by looking at the door that it wasn't totally sealed and the door stuck out past the refrigerator door.

About a year ago, the refrigerator stopped cooling. I cleaned the compressor and turned it down and it seemed to nurse it along for a little bit.

About two weeks ago, we began hearing a mysterious clicking noise in the kitchen. We couldn't find it, but it began to become more frequent. On Saturday morning, I opened the freezer to get something and noticed that everything was thawed, the ice compartment was full of water, and the temperature was only mildly cool. After further inspection, we realized that the refrigerator was also warm.

To sum it up, this refrigerator lasted us about 4 very annoying years. It has been my least favorite appliance and the object of much anger and frustration. I was angry when it died a premature death, but also relieved because I could finally buy something new that is reliable.

DO NOT BUY THIS REFRIGERATOR! Save yourself the heartache, spend a little more money, and buy something that works.

Water Sentinel WSW-1 Refrigerator Replacement Filter

On this site it says they are tested for ANSI/NSF 42 AND 53, however, when I received the filters, the box only claims tested for standard 42. This is important because standard 53 is for the reduction of Lead, Mercury, Benzene, p-Dichlorobenzene,Toxaphene and Carbofuran. You might not have these elements in your water, but you should know what you're paying for!

I sent the following message to Water Sentinel on 11/30/10 and have not received a response as of 12/16/10. Will sell my "inventory" at a steep discount! :)

The other afternoon the water filter in my KitchenAid refrigerator blew up for no apparent reason. See attached photo. Fortunately I was nearby and able to shut off the water quickly and avoid any major damage, but if I was at work and it pumped water into my house for even a few hours, or traveling for two weeks at a time it could have easily done tens of thousands of damage to my home. I now have four filters left from a six-pack that was purchased recently. Are these filters any good, or should they be tossed and replaced with something of better quality? What suggestions do you have for avoiding this problem in the future, or do we have to shut off the water every time we leave the house?

I have a WSW-1 and the end blew off and started shooting water out the front of the refrigerator and all over the floor. Fortunately we were in the next room when it happened. If we had been away it could have caused thousands of dollars of water damage. In the future I will spend a little more money and get the Kenmore brand filters.

I have used this exact filter for several years in our kenmore frig. easy to change and has never exploded or leaked for me. After reading other reviews, I was worried about others having leakage problems, but I still continue to buy and use them, with no issues.

Also, I agree with the review back in 2010, which said that this is a "taste-removing ONLY" filter (NSF 42 tested). Even though the Amazon ad continues to state that this filter is BOTH NSF 42 and 53 tested... my latest order in March 2012 showed only NSF#42 on the box.

This filter is not a direct replacement for the Whirlpool filter. It is not NSF rated, and has only one filtration element, not the three in the factory filter. They should have made this clear that it was not a replacement, but a less-effective substitute. Perhaps I should have realized this given the price was much less than a true replacement.

This is our first inverter microwave oven. We had to replace a small cheapo disposable microwave we got at a big discount retail chain.

This is a nice midsized oven. It does not dominate your counter space like the larger counter top ovens, and it also large enough to do more than pop popcorn.

We eat alot of the low calorie diet tv dinners.. this oven heats them evenly and to perfection. The microwave panini meals even end up with toasted crisp bread.

In 30 years this is probably the best microwave oven we have owned, and you cannot beat the price.

On the highest setting, it boiled water in 45 seconds and heated a bowl of soup in 20 seconds. Nice!! I ordered this to supply a microwave for the new house. It is easy to use, works well, and looks good. It was also well packaged and arrived pretty quickly. All in all, I am satisfied with its performance.

Also, It doesnt feel cheap and the button to open it doesn't stick. I also like that you can just press the buttons for the time that you want instead of having to hit a specific input time button or turn a dial or do some other form of annoying time wasting step. You just press 1-3-0 start for a minute 30. Exactly how it should be.

I have been using it more and more, and it heats food quickly and evenly. I have had to adjust my microwave intuition (setting it for how much your food really needs) because it gets hot pretty quickly. Again, satisfied and would recommend!

This unit was my first experience with the "inverter heating technology". I like it so much better than my older units that when on reduced power cooking, it just gave you shorter durations of full power heating. This unit actually reduces the cooking power over the total cooking time. I no longer experience overheated spots on my defrosted meats. I seldom actually cook anything in it, other than fresh vegetables. I mostly re-heat left-overs, de-frost meats, heat frozen dishes, and quickly boil water when needed. However, the "inverter" funtion is about all that I really like about this model.

The things that I was dissatisfied with are: The interior light does not come on when the door is open; it is not a quiet operating unit, if fact, I would describe it as quite noisey; there is a 5 beep alarm that sounds upon the completion of the heating cycle, but no further notice alerting you that food is still in the microwave awaiting to be removed; you cannot use the timer function if your heating something in the microwave; and finally the opening and closing of the oven door is very hard to do. The force required to push the "door open button" is quite excessive. I doubt children under the age of 15 would be able to open it, and you cannot just push the door closed, you nearly have to slam it closed. So, in short I have very mixed feelings about recommending this unit to anyone.
