My husband and I took our new Portable Fridge from EdgeStar for a test drive. There was a problem before we got out of the driveway. The DC power plug Wouldn't stay in the DC outlet in our Toyota Sieana Minivan. If I held it in, the fridge would go on, let go and in went off.

I called the Customer Service number at CompactAppliance where we purchased it. He informed me the problem was with my CAR, not the plug! When I told him all other DC plugs have worked (Cell charger etc.) he still insisted there is no problem with the DC plug or cord. I asked for a new cord but he said that it was a $45.00 cord and no way would they send that to me for free. He was rude and condescending. I asked to speak to a supervisor or tech support. He refused and said we could just return the unit. I ended up hanging up on him in anger and frustration. I spliced the cord myself and it works. I like the unit but would NOT recommend buying it from CompactAppliance, if you can help it, because THEY won't help YOU!

I've owned this FP630 unit for three months and have only one issue with it. I like the refrigerator/freezer itself very much, and it has worked well on AC current. However, the 12v connection cable is defective.

I ordered the longer 12v cable and it was defective also. In order to use DC current as your power supply you need to cut off the male plug (that plugs into your 12v power source) and replace it with a 10A, 12v DC plug you can find at Radio Shack for $5.99.

It's a PITA but you have no option per my call to the EdgeStar Factory representative. The problem with the 12v cables is that the male plug on the cable is defective in that its retention springs, that hold the plug into the wall or vehicle socket, are too weak the it will very easily move out of the socket enough to break the connection with the wall power source. And, in a motorhome or vehicle, you have constant vibration which adds to the problem of your connection being unreliable.

If you like the unit just purchase a new male plug, as the EdgeStar factory representative will advise you to do, and replace the male plug that comes on the power cable from EdgeStar. EdgeStar will give you the part number of the plug needed and I can vouch for the fact that this procedure will work.

I changed out both of my 12v power cables, the shorter one and the longer one, and they both work fine with the new replacement male plugs.

All and all, it kept all of the contents frozen, however, there are a few issues that one should be aware of before purchasing.

As stated, the operation of the freezer was great, but the carrying side handles are not durable enough to carry the weight of the freezer and its contents.

Also, if planning to use D/C power in a car for a prolonged period of time, be advised that there is a good possibility the power required to run the freezer will blow the 20 amp fuse in the D/C power adaptor.

We live about an hour away from our shopping area and it was hard to buy frozen products and get them home in good shape. This works great and now we can buy anything and not have to race home to get it in the freezer. Also works great for milk and stuff. We plan to use it as a extra refrigerator when we go on vacation this summer by putting a 12 volt plug in the back of the pick-up. Only down side is that this size is pretty heavy empty and when you put stuff in it it is a two person job to move it.

My Kitchenaid refuses to accept any of the replacement water filters I have bought. The ice-maker failed after just six months and had to be replaced. Worse, while the freezer (leftmost) door works just fine, the (rightmost) refrigerator door (unless you physically restrain it each and every time you open the fridge), bangs loudly against the cherry cabinets (see film clip). Three (3) "factory authorized" serviceman visits have failed to correct the door (that's, three half-days we have to block off and await his arrival, all for naught). We are asking Kitchenaid for a replacement refrigerator, but, when pigs fly, we suspect.

I've never had a worse refrigerator in my entire life! I got a great deal on this fridge 4 years ago. As it turns out, it wasn't such a great deal.

For the first few months, every 3rd or 4th time I opened the refrigerator, the shelves would fall off of the door, dropping all of my dressings and condiments onto the floor. Once, that would be annoying; after several times, I was ready to chuck the fridge. My husband ended up taping the shelves on with electrical tape and that solved that problem.

After about a year, the door hinge began to bend. We didn't have heavy stuff in the door nothing more than normal. As the door bent, it started getting caught on the switch that turns the light off as the door closes, causing the door to not close. To solve this problem, we taped part of a clothes pin to the door and it closed just fine.

The freezer was a huge problem! It NEVER SEALED COMPLETELY! For years, we've had slimy popsicles, fuzzy ice, and ice cream with a strange texture. You could tell by looking at the door that it wasn't totally sealed and the door stuck out past the refrigerator door.

About a year ago, the refrigerator stopped cooling. I cleaned the compressor and turned it down and it seemed to nurse it along for a little bit.

About two weeks ago, we began hearing a mysterious clicking noise in the kitchen. We couldn't find it, but it began to become more frequent. On Saturday morning, I opened the freezer to get something and noticed that everything was thawed, the ice compartment was full of water, and the temperature was only mildly cool. After further inspection, we realized that the refrigerator was also warm.

To sum it up, this refrigerator lasted us about 4 very annoying years. It has been my least favorite appliance and the object of much anger and frustration. I was angry when it died a premature death, but also relieved because I could finally buy something new that is reliable.

DO NOT BUY THIS REFRIGERATOR! Save yourself the heartache, spend a little more money, and buy something that works.

I am writing this review because of my extreme dissatisfaction with the Edgestar wine refrigeration product line and Compact Appliances. Two years ago my husband purchased the Edgestar 28-bottle fridge for me as a Christmas gift. We were so excited with the product that we raved to everyone about it. The following Christmas it was all my parents wanted. We purchased the smaller 16-bottle Edgestar for them. Not two weeks later ours died (right after the one-year warranty). My husband is quite handy and called to purchase various parts to repair the unit--over $100 worth--to no avail. We were devastated to throw away a brand new unit just one year after our purchase. I spoke with my parents last night and found to their utter disappointment now theirs has died too--just one year after we purchased it for them. This is TWO units that died immediately after a one-year period! These products are not inexpensive and were a costly investment to preserve our favorite wines. We are disappointed in the quality of the items and have vowed to never purchase again from Compact Appliances. We are also planning to warn all of our wine-loving friends in the wine classes we attend to not purchase the products as well. What a disappointing Christmas!

I bought this cooler for several reasons, including:

1.) truly square internal dimensions (i.e. no 'hump' at the bottom for a compressor)

2.) thermoelectric (i.e. no moving parts)

3.) lightweight (i.e. no compressor)

4.) tinted glass

5.) inexpensive

At room temperature (77F), the cooler is able to lower the internal ambient temperature to 55F and the temperature of the wine to 58F. A ~20F differential isn't bad for a 50 watt thermoelectric cooler.

My only complaints/wishes are:

1.) A true thermostat with a digital readout (I currently use an analog thermometer and adjust the rotary temp knob)

2.) Better welds on the rear of the unit (two of the supports broke loose at the welds while moving it around)

Caution to anyone looking for a quality unit that will last for years. I purchased the 28 bottle Edgestar wine cooler just under 2 years ago and was generally pleased with it's functioning and appearance until it simply stopped working last week. The warranty period is only a year, of course, and I have had no success in finding a reasonably priced repair option. This unit has never been moved or handled roughly and there were no casualties of nearby appliances which could be explained by a power surge. Given another similar review, I can only conclude that this is an inferior quality unit that is not manufactured to last. I will never purchase an Edgestar product again.

We purchased this unit a few months ago. It works well, but it is not as quiet as we were led to believe. It makes a constant humming sound that we have gotten use to. We thought that it would be essentially silent. We were wrong.

The Edgestar model is the classic example of a lure. If it were being sold in a store, you'd ask about wine coolers because of the low low price on *this* one. Then, live and in person, the salesperson would tell you about how this is a great brand but that this was the "underpowered" model. Like a plastic John Deere lawn mower. Or that baby grand piano at the front of the store for $1000. Online, however, you can't see that it is the lure. Or to be more precise, it is sold as the "bargain" rather than a lure, and you'd have to fish through a billion contradictory reviews to find the truth -if you could -which is that this unit, when in top form, is underpowered, under-built, poorly controlled, and according to most is a time-bomb waiting to cease working the moment its warranty expires. I've had mine for more than two weeks. Plugged in, once out of its box, it looked very nice. And let's be frank I am the guy who bought the $140 wine fridge. So I expected it to run but not to be a Sub Zero. You judge, though, whether this is a wine refrigerator worth owning at any price or a device whose sole purpose is to suck people into stores to sell expensive models. Empty, it took three days to get from 70 to 55 degrees, at which point it actually cooled more slowly. That's with unlimited ventilation space on a good three prong outlet with solid current. Loaded with wine, it then took a reasonable couple of days to get stable around 55 again. The problem is that this is the maximum cooling setting. Now, if you are storing only reds, and you think that a device that runs CONSTANTLY to achieve 55 degrees, because as best I can tell it has never, ever stopped running the compressor, set at the absolute coolest setting (it isn't digital which is reasonable given the price), then you are missing the point. Whites with a thermometer at the bottom or top could never be stored here. The humidity is too low generally, no matter what, because it is constantly running, but the temp can't touch 49 degrees. I shudder to think what the electricity bill from this little thing will run it must be a compressor out of one of those 12 volt portable ice chests to run this much. But the real issue is that it is obvious it will soon die. How soon? Read the other reviews. About a year, it seems fair to guess. I suppose I will hold on to it. What would I do? Sell it on craigslist for $50? But then in a year, I have to buy another one. Perhaps I should think of this as a one-year lease on a cheap car. You decide whether that's what you want for your collection, or whether you'd like to avoid my dumb mistake...

This refrigerator is being sold under a variety of different brand names. I actually bought a FranklinChef version from Living Direct 2 1/2 years ago. Its was doing a great job but stopped working fairly suddenly. The problem is that almost no one will service the fridge becasue parts aren't available for Franklin Chef--which went bankrupt shortly after I bought the fridge. One place said they would use equivalents but a reputable place said that it's important to use exactly the right part, not just some generic knock off.

When I asked a number of repair services whether they service Edgestar they said they didn't either.

So, if you buy this keep in mind that you probably aren't going to be able to get it repaired.

It's interesting that Edgestar is owned by, and only sold by, CompactAppliance which is part of Living Direct. If you are considering buying a the New Leaf Service Pro warranty offered by Compactappliance and Amazon, note that New Leaf was only started in Sept 2012 (It is also based in Texas).

We almost did not buy this product because the description lists one model of Frigidaire plus two other similar model numbers which will allegedly fit. We called Frigidaire, although our refrigerator is neither of the ones described, and were assured that the filter shown would fit almost any Frigidaire refrigerator. We ordered from Amazon and it did indeed fit although our unit was not of the type or model number listed!

Have you ever gone to your local hardware store to try to purchase one of these? What a hassle. They are on aisle so and so, sorry we are out of that filter, we can order it for you, it should take about three weeks.

I bought this because my last filter needed replacing, received this filter and installation was easy, however the water coming from this filter have a rotten smell to it, like sulfur...and taste was not the same as the previous filter. read up on many forums and even called Frigidaire to inquire about the smell and taste, they said I need to run the water atleast 5 gallons of water thru the filter before the smell and taste are "normal"....I never had this issues with other filters before. So after 5 gallons, still not good, I would say I ran 15+ gallons of water thru the filter...the smell and taste are near normal but not quite...after 1+ months of use, the smell is gone...but the taste are still not the same as the original filter.

All refrigerators that have water filters force you to replace filters or the ice maker will not operate. They should have water filters that can be cleaned and recycled by the consumer. Amazon's price was the best on the net that I could find. Manufactures of these filters have a captive matket. amazon's price alleviates some of the pain.

In the year we have had the refrigerator that uses these filters we have had to replace the filter four times. Only once was it because it was time to change the filter. The others leak profusely within 4-5 months. The last one didn't even make it to six weeks. I called Electrolux ( the actual manufacturerNOT Frigidaire) and they acknowledged that it had leaked prematurely but wouldn't replace nor compensate me because it wasn't purchased directly from them. The things I really like about this refrigerator which we have had for about three years are:

I really like the freezer on the bottom. I'm in the fridge more than the freezer and don't have to bend down to access the fridge. The freezer has a large (huge) basket with a smaller divided pull-out one on the top. The ice cube maker works fantastically.

I really like having the water dispenser on the inside wall of the fridge. The refrigerator maintains its sleek look but I still have access to filtered water.

I really like there is a shelf that pulls out making it easy to reach things stuffed towards the back.

I like that I can adjust the other shelves height.

I like the larger drawer below the two crisper drawers. We keep cheeses and lunch meats in it. Again, very accessible.

I like the big roomy size of the door shelves. They accommodate a full gallon jug of milk.

I like the stainless steel look but it does require maintenance because fingerprints are forever appearing on the front.

I purchased this refrigerator less than 4 years ago. For the second time in less than four years the central crisper support must be replaced. This is a plastic part that supports the two cripsers. It is held in place with a small plastic tab at the back, so when the drawers are extended this small plastic tab supports the weight of the crisper. And it breaks off. I was told by customer service that you "can not fill the crispers too full or put too much weight in them" (BUT no definition of the maxium load). I have never had this problem before with a refrigerator; this part is poorly designed for its use. I learned from "customer support" that there is a 30 day return policy and a 90 day warranty on the part. They will not replace the defective part; you must pay for it. If you try to replace the part under the 90 day warranty, you must have a technician come to verify that the part was properly installed (!). AND you must pay for this inspection of the $30 part (apparently this cost varies by area so they have no idea what this would cost you). I have to say this is the worst customer service I have encountered for a poorly designed part.

I didn't purchase this through Amazon, but I own this model now for a year an a half. The crisper drawers are junk. They do not have rollers and they scrape plastic drawer on plastic track and there is a dusty coating of shredded plastic on the sides of the drawers. The long drawer cover is always getting stuck. It was replaced under warranty the first year. This week the pin snapped off and the whole bracket needs to be replaced. Last week the freezer was leaking water on the floor. The drainage hose was clogged. I needed to remove all the freezer food, pack it up and defrost the rear of the freezer with a hair dryer. It seems to have worked. It is no longer under full warranty so a service call for an estimate is $90. If they find the repair is a covered expense, I still pay the 90, they pay parts and labor. If it isn't covered I pay it all. The drawers and plastic parts are no longer covered. It isn't even 2 years old and it is falling apart little by little. Do not buy, keep looking.

Every previous refrigerator I owned lasted between 10 and 20 years. This unit is a cheap piece of junk, with a good looking exterior.

I purchased this refrigerator in January 2013. Almost immediately it started making noises. GE repair took 3 weeks to make the first repair. At first I was pleased with the product. About 1 month later the fun began. The bottom portion no longer maintained temperature. I called and was surprised when they sent a technician to my house within 2 weeks. The technician said the cooling unit was bad. He ordered the unit and scheduled a follow-up appointment for two weeks from that day. I could elaborate but I will say that the part never came. About 6 weeks later I called Haier, who said it could take up to 90 days to receive the back-ordered part. When 90 days was up, I called Haier again and they initiated an exchange. In short the exchange took another 2 months. I received the replacement unit 6 months after I bought the original unit and 5 months after the original unit ceased functioning. I've had the second unit for a little over 1 month and now it will not maintain temperature. I've been on the phone with Haier for over an hour, trying to get a refund. Please pray for me. Oh, and I forgot to mention that the shelves are too narrow for their slots! Instead of wine bottles sitting on the shelves, the shelves become part of the stack of wine bottles starting on the floor of the unit. When I want to get a bottle out from the middle of the stack I have to disassemble the entire stack. This is a horrible, awful, hideous product. It is now 8 months after my original purchase and I've been through 2 units that each worked for 1 month. I'm afraid this will continue until the warranty expires, at which point I'll purchase a unit from a reputable company.

I purchased 2 of these wine coolers 3yrs ago. The first one died after 6months. Haier took over 3 months and replace every electronic part in it to fix it, but couldn't. After much arguing, they finally sent me a replacement. 2yrs later, the replacement fridge and the second one I intially bought have both failed. They all 3 did the same thing. All of a sudden it would show one zone at 45degrees and the other at 77degrees. When you open the fridge you can tell by feeling the bottles that those temperatures are actually reversed, as far as the zone goes. Either way, there is no adjusting the temperature and half the wine is almost frozen (actually had ice/frost layer build up on my wine, or it is warm to the touch. I bought solenoid to fix my Frigidaire refrigerator ice dispensing problem. I have only been able to get crushed ice out of the door and not cubed. To be clear, the exact model we have is the Profile Arctica PTS25LHP. This exact model is no longer being manufactured by GE. BUT the problem it has is structural and inherent in the size of the door on the 36" wide, 24.6 cf, top freezer GE refrigerator. Simply put: the door is too heavy. We have had our refrigerator for 9 years. It's loud and the motherboard failed once already, as other reviewers on other sites have said but this was after 8 years, which was a pretty good lifespan. Failure of the motherboard manifested in the freezer constantly defrosting itself. We couldn't figure out what was wrong with it (and my spouse is a hardware engineer haha). Who knew a refrigerator had a motherboard? Thankfully, it was an easy fix by the GE repairman. Now, 9 years into ownership, the door started clipping the base grille (plastic piece at bottom) so that it wouldn't close all the way without an extra push. This could be remedied by removing the grille. But then the door sagged so much that it collapsed on its own bottom hinge. Opening the door caused grating of the door against the hinge mechanism. We had to take everything out of the door and manually lift it while closing to make sure it sealed properly. The GE repairman just came today. Good news: We don't need to replace the door. He shimmed the hinge so that the door doesn't contact it when swinging. Bad news: This is not a permanent fix. Loaded up, the door still sags enough to clip the base grille. The repairman said these GE top freezer refigerators have had the sagging door problem "since forever". And the repairman looks to be about 70 years old, so when he says "since forever", I'm thinking he knows what he's talking about. His recommendation: a bottom freezer model or a side-by-side, which he said were structurally more sound. Now, I'm thinking of the old fridge in my mom's garage that's 20+ years old. We all know a fridge like that they lasted forever without a single service call, and their doors did not sag! Okay, so they were smaller and leaked like a sieve. But if we have traded energy efficiency and bells and whistles for a significantly shorter lifespan in appliances, that's not such a good deal either for the pocketbook or the landfills.

This is the second GE dryer I have purchased. The first one is good too. But this one is amazing. It works quiet and quick. Realy love it.

I purchased mine for $375 at HH Gregg. The salesman brought it right out of the store, and helped to load it in the back of the SUV, so there's no damage. It's perfect for under counter height. Holds 38 bottles of wine, which is perfect, really more than enough for me. Like the other reviewer, my purchase of wine is for me and friends to drink, not as an investment, so as long as it cools it, that's all I want. If it makes any noise at all, perhaps a low hum, it's in my pantry, so any noise or light isn't a bother. So, perhaps the bad reviews are not on the product,itself, but on the shipping. I had gone thru Overstock for a different wine fridge, it arrived well, the door was busted off, all dented, the box very damaged, so we returned it, and received full money back from Overstock. So, we decided to look off the internet, since you can blame that damage on either shipping or the warehouse. We purchased it right out of the store. No damage.

This is the only wine refrigerator I have found (for under $1,000+) that actually lets you store riesling bottles without putting them in at an angle. By removing a shelf you can even store over-sized champagne bottles.

The shelving is very nice, looks very classy -not sure why some people on other sites have said the shelves are flimsy. Really makes me wonder what the heck they plan to put in this little wine cooler! I think the size is great -almost as high as my kitchen cabinets. The range of temperatures is excellent, as it goes down to 41 for whites and that's a little cooler than some of the other appliances go, but it's exactly what I wanted. Dual temperature control is a wonderful thing!

I thought I wanted one of the newer thermoelectric-style coolers because they allegedly were silent and didn't vibrate your wine (both arguments sound like marketing hype to me after doing a lot of research and I'd REALLY be surprised if my wine is going to be vibrated to the point of ruining it -I'm buying wine to drink, not as an investment), but anyway, I discovered that most of those coolers didn't have a temperature setting as low as I could get with this type.

The refrigerator isn't silent, but it isn't really noisy ... definitely not as noisy as the last one we had (which was only an 18-bottle cooler). It has pretty little blue (they aren't what I'd consider white, as some descriptions say) LED lights that will stay on all the time if you want to show off your wines. I like the way it looks and it seems to intrigue our cats, so the lights go under the PRO category. I would definitely recommend this appliance.

The item arrived in a broken, torn and wet box. The item is dented in at least 5-6 places including the handle which is totally visible.

I am not sure if the item sent to me is new or somebody's return. This is not expected from Amazon especially for an Amazon prime member. I am really disappointed and am now struggling with the replacement .... I don't have a box to ship it back in as the one it came in is totally trashed in shipping. I am hoping I will be allowed to ship this in a box which arrives with the replacement fridge.

What a disaster! Product came with hinge and door handle broken (and according to the manufacturer not fixable). After a hassle talking with the manufacturer, I was redirected to Amazon. Replacement was sent and had exact same damage. What a mess! I had to waste time and energy on this. Had to get someone to help me lift both items into place (100 feet plus stairs) and back to door for return. I have better ways of getting a work out. Absolutely don't waste your time buying this product. The packaging or product design is clearly faulty. Buy a different product from another manufacturer or buy at your local retailer and have them deliver so you know it is not damaged.

Arrived with the door broken off, just like the other reviewer said. It's packaged very thinly, and there dents and what not all over. It still works, and I put the door back on despite the broken pieces.

When the compressor kicks in it's pretty loud and the temperature control is not terribly good.

There's no way it actually holds 38 bottles, some of my cabernet bottles (heavier and slightly larger) don't even fit on the shelf, and in general any slight bottle size variation means you either can't pull a shelf in/out or you can't fit the right number of bottles on it.

I got a little angst-y over buying a portable washer--I hate, hate, hate the laundromat (we live in a 4th floor walkup apartment in Manhattan) but was still suspicious that a $220 machine could actually be the solution to our laundry problems! In fact, I did a lot of research before buying the Haier HLP23E and looked at some other much more expensive portable washers (like the GE and Whirlpool, which are both about $600 or more). Haier isn't a brand that I'm familiar with and I was worried this washer would be cheap/flimsy, would break right away, or would arrive damaged. However, after reading many, many reviews, I felt the general gist was--this is a pain in the butt to set up, Haier's customer service is not great, etc., instruction manual sketchy, etc., but the actual washer itself works well. In addition, the much more expensive portable washers did NOT get much better reviews; in fact, there seems to be less info about them online than the Haier washers. So we went ahead and got the Haier HLP23E (Manhattanites--we did NOT buy it on Amazon, we picked it up at J&R Electronics downtown. They had it in stock and available for in-store pickup. I'd read some reviews saying that the washers arrived dented and this allowed us to avoid having it shipped or paying shipping charges. We were able to jam the box into the backseat of a regular cab...barely. It did not fit in the trunk.)

Anyway, we got it home and set it up. As others have said, the instruction manual is not great and we found the set-up advice in other buyers' reviews helpful. The bottom, screw-on, plastic noise reduction panel was probably the most complicated part of setup--it is REALLY HARD To get it to line up with the holes for screws. We did eventually get it on. The panel now says "FRONT" on the side that is supposed to face the floor (when the washer is upright) and we decided "FRONT" meant it should point toward the front of the washer. We got it on after a lot of effort.

After that setup wasn't bad...for us it required a few trips to the hardware store, though this wouldn't be the case for everyone. We connected the washer to our shower head, which required a different adapter (turns out shower and sink faucets have different threads). We got that at Home Depot (fyi, the shower head adapter is not compatible with the quick-pull-off sink adapter). We used a level to make sure the washer was absolutely level. Also, make sure you follow the terrible manual's advice on how to position the drain hose, because if you don't, it will leak.

Once it's set up...yay! Well, granted we've only had it for a week, but I've been really happy so far. The washer is very, very quiet, and it does its job. The clothes come out clean and the spin cycle gets them damp dry so drying on drying racks in our apartment isn't much of a hassle. The washer also holds more clothes than I thought it would--there is no agitator and that means there is more room. I think my largest load has been one queen size sheet along with a couple pairs of boxers/T-shirts.

A couple other little things I noticed...

*The washer's instruction manual says that the lint trap is included in a plastic bag with the instruction manual. I was worried that ours was missing...but in fact it was already installed in the machine.

*The washer cleans by "pulsating," not agitating--I wasn't familiar with the sound, it sounds like (very quiet) thumps. The washer really is quiet but it might not sound like a washer you've had before.

*I read somewhere else that HE detergent is recommended with these washers--I think because otherwise there might be way too many bubbles going down the sink drain. I think the instruction manual recommended using "concentrated" detergent--I took this to mean HE, and I just use a splash at the bottom of the machine.

*The instruction manual--bad, as noted--lists two different sets of instructions for loading the machine. In fact, I load it the way you would any machine. I put the detergent at the bottom (just a little bit). Then I add the clothes. Then I power on and select the cycle and hit start.

*The manual also mentions a "water heater" built into the washer...as far as I know, it doesn't have one. I just vary the output of the faucet based on what I want going in. This means that if I want a warm wash and cold rinse I have to go and turn the faucet to cold when the rinse cycle begins.

*If there are detergent dispensers, I did not see them. I pour it in the bottom of the tub. I don't think there is a fabric softener dispenser.

*Your faucet must be on BEFORE you select the cycle/hit start...might be self-explanatory to some but wasn't for me :)

*Oh yeah...the HLP23E doesn't look like the picture! Or at least mine doesn't--mine doesn't have a see-through top. Instead it has a jointed white top that folds open. I am fine with that; I leave the washer open when it's not in use to avoid any problems with mildew.

*It's super satisfying to see dirty water come out the drain.

Sorry that I wrote a book here--but hopefully it'll be helpful to others. It is just so great not to have to go to the laundromat anymore. Having a washer in the apartment is a luxury in Manhattan...and you can really make the cost of the washer back quickly (we were spending like $50 a month at the laundromat, sending laundry out is even more expensive).

I live in a one-bedroom unit in a massive apartment building with 6 laundry machines in the basement. I did not buy this unit from Amazon but rather from a Chinese electronics dealer in my area. Haier is very popular in China and the machine came highly recommended by the dealer.

The dealer delivered it to me, set it up and away we went. I have had this unit for about a month and here are my comments:

1) The unit is quieter than a traditional laundry machine.

2) I have had no problems with balancing the machine or with water intake. It fills quickly so long as there is high water pressure. The machine balances itself by stopping and starting until the clothes are balanced.

3) The high water level can accommodate a lot of clothes. I do about 3 loads a week: shirts/undies, pants, and towels.

4)It uses a lot less soap than traditional washers (about half I would say)

5)The regular wash runs for about 45 mins which I found excessive. The quickwash runs for about 22 minutes and I find that my clothes are perfectly clean. I only use the regular wash for very soiled items.

6) My unit came with casters so I had no problem. You may also buy casters at the hardware store... the casters are fairly standard.

7) Hooking it up to the sink did require a trip to the hardware store but it was easy to find the adapter as I brought the intake hose with me.

This washer has changed my life! I live in an apartment and having to go to the laundromat was killing my weekends. So, if you can think of nicer things to do than spending a Saturday or Sunday at the laundromat, this washer is for you.

It is one of the larger compact washers out there 20 inches wide. That way, it is large enough to fit a decent sized load, yet small enough to fit most closets and other tight spaces.

I can usually wash either 10 XL t-shirts, 3 jeans, or one queen sized sheet set at once. Just make sure to load things loosely until the washer is full and select the high water level, which the washer does NOT do by default. Clothes come out perfectly clean. This washer works much better with liquid detergent than powder detergent, which tends to accumulate in the lint filter. Although it does have a powder detergent dispenser, I would advise against using powder detergent.

The only two wash cycles I use are normal for almost everything and heavy for whites. The normal cycle takes 45 minutes. Not bad at all. The display tells you the time remaining. The washer does not have a fabric softener dispenser. If you want to use it, add it manually to the last (2nd) rinse (when 14 minutes show on the timer). Two rinses are nice no more detergent residue on my clothes.

I noticed some people have trouble hooking up this this washer. The quick adapter will work with virtually any bathroom faucets that come with the little aerator which you have to unscrew. The drain hose has to drain in the sink because it must be above water level. Otherwise, water will drain inadvertently. This is true for all top load washers. At the same time, the drain hose should not reach a maximum height of 46 or 49 inches, because the pump is not strong enough to pump water that far up. This should not be a problem with most bathroom sinks, although some kitchen sinks might be taller.

The only problem I have had with this washer is the location of the drain hose. It attaches to the bottom right side of the washer. The user manual says you may reroute it to the bottom left side, but you can't. There is an opening made for that, but due to the location of the drain pump, it is impossible to use that opening. So, if your sink is located to the left of your washer, the hose will be too short because it cannot reach around the washer. I had to extend my drain hose using a foot of hose from the hardware store and a hose clamp.

Overall, I am kicking myself for not having bought this quiet little washer sooner. It could have saved me so many trips to the laundromat.

So, I bought this washer about a month ago and I have to say that even though I was so excited to be doing laundry in my apartment, I found this washer not as convenient as I would have liked, considering that I had to babysit it.

Here is my list of pros:

1)You can do laundry in your own home! As a New Yorker I can not overstate the convenience of this. I would write more about this but since this is the reason I bought it...

2)It fit about 10-12 items in it. This included pants, skirts, underwear and shirts. I mixed it up.

3)The control panel is real nice. smooth even.

4)Even without the muffler,it's an okay volume (see below).

Here is my list of cons:

1)It arrived dented. Not only were the thingees that were supposed to connect it to the sink dented but so far I have not been able to attach the bottom sound muffler plastic plate because the body of the washer is too dented to do that.

2)I have to babysit it. I know I already mentioned that but here are the deets: it would do a wash cycle and then tell me that there wasn't enough water coming through the sink. How much water do you need, little fella? The sink was turned all the way on and streaming away so maybe consider hooking it up to a fire hydrant? Waterfall?

3)The metal widget to adapt to the sink (even if it had been undented) was well, unique. They give you these rubber washers which are supposed to make things connect to your sink. These washers may work for others. For me? Nyet. So I went to the hardware store, with my washer, consulted with the plumbing dept, and bought a different piece which I then installed to my sink (FYI, apparently in plumbing there are either big threads or small threads and the threads on my sink were the wrong kind).

4) The drainage tube should be hung lower than the faucet. I found this difficult and logistically if you have a small apartment a bucket might be a good idea because otherwise the spin cycle does not get all the water out unless the drainage tube is lower than the input tube.

5) No casters. It's on a furniture dolly because I wanted it to move around but I foolishly concluded that 'portable' and 'casters included' go together.

6)Terrible, I mean TERRIBLE instruction booklet. I rate the instruction booklet negative 65 stars.

I've only used my washer a few times so I'll update when I have more to say.

We love this machine. We live in New York City in a 5th floor walk-up apartment, and this machine has been great for us. We feel foolish for not having bought this a lot sooner.

Setting it up is easy. You just affix the dampener on the bottom and then connect the hoses. It took about 20 minutes from the time of opening the box to having it ready for a test run. Have pliers, a wrench, a screwdriver, and a level handy. One tip: be sure to use a wrench or pliers to tighten all fasteners on the water lines. It makes a big differences in preventing drips and little sprays. There is still a really slight trickle off the sink adapter, but it's barely anything and so I don't worry about it.

Some people have complained that their products arrived significantly banged up. We didn't have that problem: we ordered ours through Amazon but it was delivered locally from a J&R store by UrbanExpress. No scratches or dents---looked pristine when it arrived.

It handles a pretty sizable load with no problem: last night I did two oxford shirts, 5 pairs of boxers, 5 pairs of socks, and three T-shirts; this was what I would call a 3/4 full capacity load. You could get away with probably two pairs of jeans, to give you an idea.

Definitely worth it for apartment dwellers like us. Laundry in our building is $3.40 total for one wash and dry load. My wife and I have about 5 of these loads a month. We don't pay for water in our building, as is the case for many people I know in NYC. So the machine pays for itself in about a year and a half. That's not even counting the huge cost (in time and hassle) of schlepping laundry down from our fifth floor apartment to the basement.
