We purchased a Maytag refrigerator in July of 2012. It quit working in October. Maytag repairman did not have the replacement compressor that was needed. Home Depot brought us another refrigerator 10 days later. That refrigerator worked until the beginning of May 2013 (7 months later). Home Depot brought us another refrigerator 7 days later. We contacted Maytag after we received the new refrigerator and they were not willing to send us any compensation for aggravation or loss of food. Their customer service to say the least is non-responsive. We will never buy another Maytag refrigerator and we tell everyone we know not buy a Maytag refrigerator. Maytag had to know these refrigerators were defective and they should have recalled them. Home Depot Appliance manager told us there were multiple customers who had issues with these refrigerators.

There are many manufactures of appliances and our advice would be not to buy maytag!

I purchased 4 of these units. One ceased to cool within the warranty period and it was fixed under the warranty. It has since gone bad again, and it is for the same reason. It simply fails to hold the coolant. All of these units leak water onto the floor when they go through their defrost cycle. They started this right after the one year warranty. Thankfully, I have them in my garage now, as I could not have them leaking onto the kitchen floor. The instructions state that cleaning coils is not necessary on these units. I thought that perhaps this was the issue with these units, but it is not. They are simply poorly made and inferior. I would not recommend them to anyone. I have not used the ice makers, so I cannot tell you if they work at all, but overall, I would look for any other brand of appliance to purchase than Maytag.

This is a great refrigerator. I've own other brand of refrigerators in the past and they don't really feel and look like quality made. This is feels and look like a well build refrigerator. It keeps all my fruits and vegetables nice and fresh. I'm not too impress about the bottom freezer part but it serves it purpose. In all, I like this refrigerator.

I bought the first Haier compact December 2009 and I got the replacement Jan 14, 2010. The second did not work as of October 2011. It tends to blow out the circuit breakers and it is very noisy. Do not buy any of their compact refrigerator. Poor workmanship.

I bought this for my dorm and it works, but it makes a lot of clicking noises. Kind of loud for what I want, but it was within my budget. If you can afford something better, I would not recommend this.

UPDATE (4/24/2013): Stopped working! Barely lasted 4 months. Not worth the buy.

This is a great fridge. It keeps things cold as well as you may expect. It's not too good at making ice but I don't really need it if my drinks are already cold. It makes a bunch of random clicks and other noises at random times but it's nothing. It's light enough to carry though awkward. Not good if you want to keep meat in it for more than a day.

Taking into consideration what you are buying, this product meets my expectations. I bought it to replace a Black & Decker unit that failed after a year. The Haier does not have a light of any type which was an advantage on the B&D. In my experience if you try to keep frozen food in that compartment the setting must be so low as to freeze food in the refrigerator. That said, I'm using it as an "office" refrigerator and it works fine.

My Husband bought this fridge( red one) for me for work. It worked great for almost a year and then it inexplicably died. It was still under warranty so I contact Haier to replace it in October. I am yet to receive the replacement(it is 12/14) and have spent over 20 dollars in shipping them useless paperwork. They keep giving me the run around and saying it will be taken care of but they never call me back, despite guaranteeing they will. Customer service people are polite but have no information and can provide no help... other than empty promises of calling me back.

Save your money and buy from a RELIABLE company!!!!!!!!!

UPDATE: A new fridge has arrived at my doorstep. Thank You Haier for finally taking care of my request. I wish my being patient and polite had been as effective as my being irate and fed up!

Pros:

it's a Haier

gets very cold

freezer is a good size

freezer freezes, as well as the refrigerator depending on the coldness setting.

top shelf is deep and goes all the way to the back of the refrigerator

adjusting feet for unbalanced surfaces

quiet

the cooling component look like quality,

and should last a long time just like my other Haier appliances.

Cons:

door shelves are nothing special, and you have to be careful

to open the door slowly so the items don't fall

bottom shelf is shallow

I prefer the blower type of compact refrigerators.

cannot fit a lot of taller wider objects inside

the top was very warm to the touch, but I am not sure why yet.

Update-I haven't experiences this since the initial experience of plugging this in.

I'll keep you updated if it fails or the experience remains positive.

I bought this solely on the name, since I've had good experiences with Haier appliances in the past, and none of them have failed yet.

Update January 16, 2012: I have a short container that I wanted to fit on the bottom shelf, but wouldn't fit. I had to remove the side door bar that is supposed to hold the door items in place. I really never had any use for the side door, so I now have more space on the bottom shelf. The metal bar is easily removed and easily replaced.

I now have fixed a major concern I had with the shallow bottom shelf. This may be a problem for those that want to store liter bottles though.

With all my qualms regarding the interior space, this refrigerator/freezer is ICE cold, and is so quiet that it's almost silent. I do use the freezer as well as the refrigerator. In the morning, I bring in cans of drinks at room temperature, and by lunch time the drink has a few ice crystals, and if I leave the cans in for 3 or more hours the drink is completely frozen.

I had posted an earlier review which stated that these filters do not fit properly on Kenmore french door fridge ( filter # 469990). Got a email from their rep and was explained that since it is a green filter it is smaller thn the original filter, however it will not reduce its performance. May be in future this could be stated on its description page.

I bought my Kenmore refrigerator a couple of years ago, and replaced the water filter by visiting Sears at least twice--at around $65 a shot.

Then I got wise, began using Amazon to scout out my filter, and am much happier. The Green Filter seems to be working fine once broken in (*see below), and I haven't noticed any difference in taste from my old water.

Of course, I take both brands at their word as to filtration effectiveness -I can only tell that the taste is still delicious. I live near a little town named Mineral, and it's called that for a reason: besides gold, silver and lead, our soil is packed with a host of unpronounceable minerals. (To name a few: alamandine, bornite, chalcopyrite, copper, cuprite, gahnite, galena, hornblende, magnetite, pyrite, pyrrhotite, scheelite, sphalerite, sulphur, tremolite, and tourmaline)...all I need is salt and pepper.

I didn't think that the filters were going to fit our refrigerator at first since they were a difference size, but they did. We have been using one for a few months now and it works well.

The filters looked a lot like the original, but the end that inserts into the refrigerator and connects to the water supply was made just a little different. The original will "snap" into place when you turn it a little, and these won't "snap". They will connect, though, and they don't leak, so I'm Ok with them, and the price is right.

Description says it fits the Kenmore 9990. It did not fit my Kenmore refrigerator the filter for my Kenmore 9990 is bigger around.
