Purchased one of these 7 years ago, wasted $800 on two repairs in the last 15 months, broken again today. Recurrent problem, fan stops pumping air into fridge although coils are still cooling. Simple to replace the fan? No. Quite expensive since the electronics tie into this malfunction. Tried a surge suppressor to help, obviously the result wasn't good. I will not buy another GE refrigerator.

Update: Well, Never Mind.... Internet is quite useful-looked up parts charts and problems for this model number, as well as repair discussions-after some time on line I came up with a hypothetical diagnosis of the problem, opened the casing of the freezer box, exposed, thawed and dried the evaporator coils-wife's hair dryer invaluable time saverreassembled and turned on-my goodness, saved lots of money in appliance repair and/or cost of a new refrigerator. Should have done this the first time. Apologies to GE-was the mother board really bad the last time? -nothing like doing a job yourself, if and when it works at any rate.

Wholly apart from asking its NBC broadcast division to cover up every legitimate question ever asked on the current White House Occupant so as to elect him (and continuing to pander to the occupant's every desire, like a dutiful lapdog) --GE's current business model apparently requires peddling appliances that don't work well, in order to sell unwary consumers ever more costly repair contracts.

We bought one of these GE models some six years ago, and like the previous reviewer were quite disappointed.

First off, the mother board went kaflooey within the first 13 months --naturally, right after the fridge warranty ran out.

That added a $380 repair bill to the $1,200 cost of the fridge.

We then bought a three-year GE repair contract --just in case. That ran another $400 for the next few years, but it was a good thing we had it.

For lo and behold, the mother board went bust again --this time along with the computer on the refrigerator rear. Two computers down, at once.

Additionally, we required a new door magnet.

Finally, when the repairman came out because the door was not closing and bent, he said the door can't withstand the weight of soft drink bottles. Meaning, the fridge door --where many many people store their bottled beverages --is built with material too weak to hold them.

Um, excuse me. A product with shelves ought to be able to hold stuff on them. If there is a weight limit, post a warning sign on the shelves of the new item. GE posted no such warning.

So we have a bent door and can do nothing about it.

Oh yes, I almost forgot. The door paint chips very easily, too, thanks to the slightly ridged surface "look."

Last year, GE called to again renew our repair contract, and now wanted another $500 or so to cover three more years. This time, we told them to go fly a kite.

If and when this fridge again breaks down, we'll be in the market for a new, reliable fridge. Definitely not a General Electric model.

We were reluctant to consider GE for our washer when the old one broke; Only advice from a happy parent convinced us. The washer works, at least.

As for fridges, and pretty much every other GE appliance, we will definitely not include them on our shopping list next time around. As to GE broadcast news, you can bet, we do not watch that trash, either.

I've had this unit for about 3 weeks and it's running quite well. It arrived quickly and undamaged. Packing could have been better but since it arrived OK, no problem. It fits 18 normal wine bottles (750ml). It's quite quiet (certainly less noisy than the Cusinart I had). Temperature is adjustable and accurate. Obviously it allows for one temperature, so if you like your white wines chilled you'll probably have to move it to the fridge and hour before you open the bottle.

Overall I'm very happy with this unit. We called a wine store for a recommendation and this is the manufacturer he recommended.

Pros: Looks nice, easy interface, temperature control is pretty quick. The other review is right, the packaging is very good.

Cons: The big con is that this unit will NOT fit all 750ml bottles adequately. I bought a long-necked bottle of Riesling...it's an inch too long to fit! I had to lay it diagonally across the bottom tray, taking up 3 spaces. I bought a wide 750ml bottle of Pinot, and a bottle of port..they're too wide to fit the middle racks. I have to stick them in the top rack. Ok, I understand it's not meant to hold 18 port bottles but you'd figure that the rest of the wider red bottles should fit. But no. Even some other moderately-wide 750ml bottles seem to have trouble fitting into the middle racks.

If the unit was just a little a couple inches taller and deeper to accommodate more 750ml bottle shapes, it would be a great device. As is, expect to fit about ~15 bottles, and have some squeezing/rearranging issues.

Purchased this wine cooler in November '10, stopped working in July '11. When i first began using it, it took awhile to get down the to proper temperature something like 3 days. But once it did, it was fine. However, when summer came along the unit couldn't get the temp below 65 degrees, sometimes struggling at 68-69 degrees. After about a week in the high sixties, the temp shot up to 80 degrees, even though the temperature of the room was in the mid 70s. Warranty is 90 days, so I now have to purchase a replacement cooling system for $50 i hope the service instructions are good.

Poor quality, I would look elsewhere.

They sent the wrong cooling system first, then when the correct unit came, it did not work. This whole experience from the product to the service has been a joke.

okay well at least the two i received are... they are very close replicas but they are not the actual product, they went to great lengths to copy the box and got stuff slightly wrong, like there was no actual trademark stamp on the NSF logo, and the year on the box was dated 2007 and the actual year should be 2011, there was also some uneven typing going on... the actual filter was smaller and wider then the original and didn't come with any sort of safety wrapping or cap to ensure i was receiving a brand new item, it also just had a white background with "premium filter" on it, not like the blue labels in the photos... i am all for using generic products if they label them as such, instead of trying to pass them off as the official product...so i can't say how this filter actually works because i'm sending it back... i did contact LG and they gave me a list of approved dealers who sell the actual filters, which I bought from best buy, and it was in the right box, and properly sealed, even if i have to pay more i'd rather rest assured that my water is being filtered completely, because who knows if they can't copy the box properly then what they may have done to the filters themselves...

I have ordered from other places the LG LT500P filter where I got a "cheaper" filter even though the discription and picture was the cuno LT500P. So be careful. The Cuno filter performs better and keeps the water clean for a long time, even after the 6 month recommended replacement. I forgot the last filter change for1 year without noticing any difference in water quality. This is why I bought 2 this time.

There aren't too many choices when you're looking for a stainless steel cabinet-depth French door refrigerator, and I'm glad we chose the one we did. This fridge fits the space nicely (anything else would have stuck out), is super quiet, makes great ice (we actually prefer not to have the ice dispenser in the door)and looks beautiful. We like that the top tray with the ice is in front when you pull out the freezer compartment. The only flaw is that the freezer door is a little sticky.

I love the new fridge. So far everything is running well. All the features are great. Perfect size for the counter top. Most definitely more storage than the old side by side that it replaced. I did not want the in-the-door ice and water dispenser. I have been down that road and the convenience does not outweigh the headaches when it breaks down. Every through the door ice and water dispenser I have ever had has broken down. The only problem that I have found (and I have seen this in another review) is that the sliding freezer door sticks after it slides about 2-3 inches out. It's like there's a catch. I've looked and looked for it. I cannot find it. It must be in the slide mechanism. I will try to keep you updated after I call Fridgidair.

This model has an ice maker that will self destruct.

Our appliance repairman said as much and told us that we should have Frigidaire replace the entire unit.

Frigidaire says they have re-manufactured the ice maker so that new models do not self destruct.

They are even willing to replace the entire unit, but I have trust issues. . .

I have owned a similar Frigidaire Gallery unit (ice maker in the freezer) for 18 months now and I would NOT purchase this unit, or any similar unit, from Frigidaire again.

Here's the issue I have had the Ice maker replaced once (I'm on my second ice maker) and every so often, the mechanism freezes over. The problem is that the mechanism that fills the ice tray is gravity fed. Something goes wrong, and the ice maker spews water all over the inside of your freezer. And your ice maker... And the large gears that the freezer door relies on to open and close.

So, last night, my freezer door is completely frozen shut. I nearly broke the unit (not to mention my back, legs) trying to get the freezer door open so that I could spend 45 minutes at a really odd angle with a blow dryer trying to melt and chip away at the iceberg that was the left side, back and bottom of this freezer unit.

Unless your masochistic, or just feel like playing a bad joke on someone, stay away.

I only recently learned of a "counter-depth" refrigerator. I have a small, U-shaped kitchen and my former standard depth refrigerator stuck out and spoiled the balance of the kitchen. This is the ONLY 'frig' I could find that met my criteria: counter-depth, no water/ice in door (been there/done that) and freezer/ice maker in drawer. Fits perfectly and looks built in. I do not like stainless doors, so for me this was a negative but not a deal-breaker. Ironically, the sides of the refrigerator are patterned grey vinyl -what I would have preferred for the doors. Not on my must have list, but I like the French doors. The frig is much roomier than expected. This was a special order at my store, so I could not see the interior before ordering.

I paid $1829 delivered by a local store, for the Professional Series. The Gallery series was quoted at $1779. So far I am thrilled with it. Hope this helps.

I bought this for my dorm and it works, but it makes a lot of clicking noises. Kind of loud for what I want, but it was within my budget. If you can afford something better, I would not recommend this.

I bought this refrigerator last year based on all the information I found at multiple websites. I must admit that based on reviews on the Amazon website I was very leery. I have found that the reviews on Amazon are usually correct, But not this time. I was willing to take a chance and buy a GE refrigerator due to they have been in business for so long, and been making good products or would have been out of business a long time ago.

This is the first refrigerator with an ice maker, and water dispenser I have ever owned, and so far it being almost one year old has been a great machine. Even with an ice maker I have seen a reduction in my electric bill by almost 20$/month, some of which could be due to my new TV also. Nonetheless water/ice and a reduction in elctricy usage was a nice surprise. Lots of room in this fridge, could easily accommodate a very large turkey, and for a family of 5 we have plenty of room for what we need to store. The only Con, (which is not really a big deal for me) is that with the glass shelves they show all the dirt off, so if you want your fridge to look spotless you will find yourself cleaning off the shelves frequently. Spill proof is what they call the shelves, and that is kind of misleading, the ledge around the shelf will catch small amounts of liquid, and therefore makes it easier to keep clean, but you could easily spill enough to go over the edge of these shelves. Overall I am very pleased with this refrigerator, and would buy again.

12/27/11 I was thinking that there was one important thing that I left out. based on some expert advice i bought and used a surge supressor with this refrigerator from day one since it is run by a computer. Other websites had recomended this to protect the circuits use to regulate the refrigerator.

6/25/12 Still extreamly pleased with this refrigerator, just put in second new water filter about 2 months ago. The vegatable drawer is nothing short of amazing it keeps the stuff fresh far longer than I would expect, more than double the time of my old fridge.

In my opinion my GE Profile side by side has been the worst refrigerator that I have ever owned. Most all of the drawers have cracked, along with the rails that hold them. The ice machine never works properly. I have had the entire water valve fail and flood my floor and ruin everything inside the refrigerator---need I go on because this isn't the end of my problems with the unit. I will definitely never purchase another GE product. I have also written to GE about this product but did not hear back from them. I feel like I got stuck with a big lemon.

We bought all GE appliances when we remodeled a few years ago. The diswasher, stove and microwave were all fine, But I would never, ever in a million years buy a GE refrigerator again.

There are a few good reviews here, and to them I would like to say "Congratulations! Either you got one of the rare non-lemon machines, or your refrigerator has not yet fallen apart." But the bad reviews are all the same as what I've experienced, and you will find many, many, many more of them when you visit other review sites.

From the start, there has been a leak inside the refrigerator, where it connects to the ice machine. Huge chunks of ice build up there and have to be regularly pried off with a screw driver. The extra liquid pooling where it's not supposed to be also creates a black mold buildup ijnside the fridge that has to be cleaned up every few weeks.

But that's not the worst. The worst is that this refrigerator (and especially the freezer) WILL NOT HOLD A TEMPERATURE! If you buy this fridge, you're setting yourself up for food poisoning. Our freezer defrosts completely at least once a week without warning and for no reason. All of the ice in the ice machines melts completely. (We do not store things like meat in this freezer for this reason -we use another, older freezer we're lucky to have downstairs.) Then everything will refreeze, again, but at a degraded quality.

And now the rubber gasket on the fridge has come completelly loose.

We're out of warranty (the problems for everyone always seem to start as soon as the warranty runs out), and I've read that a fix will cost at least $900 -half the price of the original unit. Unfortunately we just married off our daughter and finished a remodel in the other part of the house, so we can't afford a new fridge. When we get one, though, there is NO WAY IN HELL that it will be a GE. I will be boycotting GE on everything for the rest of my life.

Our GE Profile looks great side by side with a nice water/ice dispenser. We also bought a Master Protection Plan for 5 years with it. However, our joy was short-lived. 18 months ago, there were a lot of issues with over-freezing inside the freezer compartment. That was resolved after 3 visits from the repair guys. Recently, the fridge started making a lot of noise. After returning from work one day, I found everything in the fridge at room temperature. Now, I am juggling my schedule between many windows of time given by the repair folks. It's been 14 days since, different repairmen come in every time. One orders a part, the next one doesn't know why that part was ordered. No prompt appointments are available --the next one is in two weeks from now. It has been such a frustrating experience.

Looks like there are quite a few "known issues" with the GE Profile. The circuit-boards are faulty and they have received lots of customer complaints regarding similar issues. I don't know if mine will be fixed, but I'd never recommend a GE Profile...

I purchased this product because of ratings in Consumer Reports and because of the Samsung brand name. The French Door refrigerator was installed yesterday by two guys from Lowe's. One a trainee, the other berating the trainee. They said there might be "water on the floor". If so call them back. They said the icemaker will make ice in 12 hours. OK.

24 hours later, the icemaker was still not making ice. We pulled the refrig out from the wall, there was a kink in the line. We thought that fixed the problem. Nope. We hit the reset button for 8 seconds. The "Icemaker" light is supposed to go dark. It didnt.

Also, the electronic display is supposed to be 0 degrees. But it's "frozen" on -8 degrees. Called Samsung. Service people were very nice and set me up with a local "repair guy" who is coming out tomorrow to see what the problem is.

Bottom line is, this supposedly well rated French Door refrig. is not performing according to the manufacturer's reputation. I'm not thrilled with what I'm experiencing with this product.
