Emerson Compact Refrigerator

I'm usually overall elaborate with my reviews, but I'll be brief on this particular one since more than likely if you're reading this, you're probably buying this fridge on clearance or it's coming to its end of life cycle.

First the positive aspects of the fridge. Emerson has accomplished what many could not successfully do with other brand models, in that you have a fully functional TRUE freezer space inside a compact fridge. It's amazingly large and can actually fit regular tubs of half gallon ice cream. (The horizontal cartons anyway. Vertical cartons can be laid down on their sides) It can keep things in a solid block of ice if needed, and due to the low volume space of the freezer, it acts as a better ice cube maker.

The fridge has a TRUE FLAT back. No wires are exposed, you can literally sit it against the wall. The trick is that Emerson ran the cooling coil around the fridge, so that the heat sink is actually on its sides and bottom. They then covered it with thin plastic on all sides. The fridge is warm to the touch, but never hot because of this.

With positives come negatives of course. The fridge itself would be comparable to 3.9cu Ft models, but because of the enclosed freezer door, it is cut down to total 3.1cu Ft. (2.2cu Ft for space, 0.9 for freezer)

The fridge is HEAVY. It's 57.5lbs is not entirely accurate. Although I don't have an exact measurement, it definitely is a lot heavier than similar compact fridge models. Typically other models would be around 45lbs.

The refrigerator space is surprisingly weak compared to the very powerful freezer space. I'm assuming the motor that it uses is the same one on other fridges, so they implemented more research onto keeping the freezer cold, but not the fridge as cold. If you're a person who likes ICE cold drinks, you'll be in for some disappointment.

Neutral things that you can see positive or negative are follows.

It runs quiet, but runs constantly. The freezer needs to be kept in check and because it uses such a small motor, it has to keep running.

It has key locks. This can be useful if you want to keep alcohol in the fridge, but if you LOOSE your keys. Well, good luck.

Its unusual weight is placed onto four peg legs. If you have sensitive flooring, this can cause dents.

In the end, I like the fridge but don't love the fridge. It's definitely pretty, quiet, and has good freezer space. It's also heavy, runs constantly, and has limited fridge space for its size. This is a true MINI FRIDGE. Take that for what it is.

Although I reviewed this fridge back in November 2008, I actually had the fridge in May. Now is past the 2 year point and I'm happy to say the fridge is still going strong. I decided to update the review since I saw how many people found this helpful and I wanted to make sure my words didn't loose meaning over time.

First of all this fridge is available in retail chains. So for those of you who are getting bad shipments, I suggest you simply go pick it up. It's a shipping issue between you and the vendor; not Emerson and their fridge.

Second Always remember that this fridge's big selling point is the freezer space. The fridge space isn't any different from other mini-fridges you happen to come across.

For those of you who have actually e-mailed me about the "flat back" yes, this fridge literally has a flat back. The cooling coil you find on most fridges (take a look behind your big one in your kitchen for example) was covered up by Emerson on this model, so it runs around the fridge but is covered by that black thick plastic material you see in the picture. It's really sleek, and very useful for those who want to shove the fridge in a corner with it's back facing outward. KEEP IN MIND for safety reasons, you should still give the fridge some breathing room around the edges.

Still a great fridge, still love mine. I would gladly pick up another one if I actually needed another one. This little guy isn't an Energy Star fridge, but almost no mini-fridge is unless it's those horrible coolers they pass off as fridges now-a-days. Thanks for reading as always.

You can purchase this through target, which may save you on shipping. They also have more reviews on there website than this one does. I ended up going to target. I asked them to open the package to make sure it wasn't damaged since most complained about this, the one I had didn't have any damage. This isn't real stainless steel, more of a look a like. It does have a lock, but my friend told me that you could go to the hardware store and buy the so called "key" (it's not a real key), so if you have a smart roommate this may not work. I like how it has 2 doors. The freezer gets cold. This is a little noisy. 1st off, I didn't keep this, b/c I found one similar that I liked better at walmart (SPT brand)--they have it on amazon as well, and i reviewed it on here. I think the soda holder can be a pro/con depending on if you have a use for it, I didn't. Doesn't hold a quarter of a gallon of milk unless you lay it on the side on the shelf or take the wire shelf out. I like the light inside.

As the title says, this refrigerator stopped working after 16 months of not-so-sincere serving. I think the compressor is not working anymore I still hear the sound of the motor but the spaces (top & bottom) never get cold. This malfunctioning happened while I was away I had to throw away every single food I had in this machine :(

About the product:

It has a very weak refrigerator space and a strong freezer space as somebody has mentioned below. How weak it is: you don't want to keep milk in the refrigerator. It won't last till its expiration date. Rather, the milk will get fermented. The freezer is quite strong, holds lots of food compared to its limited space. The machine itself is quite.

I don't think I am ever going to buy the same product again even if the price is lower than what I paid before; I paid about ~$130 for this product.

I had a mini fridge in my room for a year and it broke so I replaced it with this Emerson one. I love it, the Freezer gets very very very cold, as well does the refrigerator part. You can store lots of things in it, and it even has its own storage compartment for fruits and cold cuts!

This unit was fairly cheap, so I guess I got what I paid for. It died after just four months of use: compressor works, but no longer cools, so it must be a refrigerant problem or something. I called customer service for Emerson, since it was still under warranty, and the replacement process is rather burdensome. I give Emerson an F for service/replacement.

Everything came as shown and was easy to install. Some tweaks need to be done, but nothing serious. I looked for months and this is the best deal you will get. Has everything to tap a keg once put together. I would reccomend knowing where your local C02 gas store is because I ran into the problem of nobody wanting to fill the tank I provided that came with this kit. Most beer distributors and gas places will only want to trade in bottles, so you can save yourself $30 by not getting the tank if there is nowhere near you that fills. Fire Extinguisher Places will fill them up for about $11 making it cheaper in the long run to own your own tank, but dont be surprised if there is nobody around you who will do it....just saying. I love this thing!

This is not a cheap unit! maintains temp very well. shipped quickly and safely. all hardware heavy duty. I purchased this one for commercial use, and although its not the top of the line, thats not what I needed it for. I installed this on a passenger bus, and it works great! I was very impressed with this unit. I have bought several kegerators in the past 5 years, and this is by far the best quality for the price. Great value. (I have purchased two of these now, and highly recommend this one.)

Purchased this unit through Amazaon / The Beverage Factory. After installation the unit was very noisy while running and would intermittently make a very loud knocking noise. After several calls to the Beverage Factory, they shipped me another core unit. The unit arrived and I had to move over the tap handle, CO2 tank and all hardware to the new unit. The new unit performed the exact same way as the previous one. After a ton of frustration, the Beverage Factory promised me a full refund. I wanted a wine cooler that fit the traditional decor of my house rather than the standard sleek, modern designs. This cooler surpassed my expectations. The workmanship is great quality. I've had a lot of positive comments from guests about it being the nicest wine cooler they've seen. I only have two complaints. 1) I can't actually fill all the slots in the cooler since some of my bottles are a bit larger in diameter and the cooler has been designed for economy of space. I end up with one last spot that I can't squeeze anything in to! 2) It's a rather noisy unit. I don't notice it so much during the day when there's a lot of ambient noise, but at night the constant humming can be annoying. I imagine this is the case with most coolers, though. I would definitely recommend this unit to anyone looking for a good way to store their wine that's aesthetically pleasing as well.

This wine refrigerator is both beautiful and functional. Its quite large standing 52 inches tall, has a beautiful granite top, and the top drawer provides ample storage space for all of my serving hardware (corkscrews, wineglass charms, cork seal cutters, etc.). Inside the drawer is a sliding lid, so it can be extended and utiluzed as a temporary shelf when more counter space than the granite top is required. It keeps my vino at perfect sipping temperature and with a 28-bottle capacity, holds more than enough wine for a large party of folks. I actually saw this same cooler at BJ's a few years back for $200 less. Wish I'd bought it then! Still, I highly recommend this wine cooler!

Genuine Viking Pa010071 Light/motor Controller Knob

The knob broke that was on my Viking hood. The hood was 12 years old. In looking at the old knob the design was not very good around the area where it met with the dimmer shaft. I ordered two new knobs. Good thing because the style changed slightly. But the price I got them for shipped was considerably less then if I ordered directly through Viking, they wanted $15 to ship them. The design also changed on the knobs where they meet the shaft of the dimmer. So if you have an older Viking hood and you have two knobs you will want to order both unless having two different styled knobs do not bother you.

I really didn't like the hood missing the knob so I paid the price. The part is fine, it may not match your old knob (mine didn't) but it was close. I would have given it 5 stars if the price was about half. But since it is so over priced, they get 3 stars.

GE SmartWater Filter Cartridge (MWF, GWF), 2-Pack

These GE filters are heavy duty and well made and do the job very well. They actually last longer than the 6 months replacment date, so you can get by with longer as I have used them a year before replacing. The only downside of course is the price.

What can I say? I have a GE refrigerator so these are the ones I had to buy. On the plus side, they are filtering the water nicely. We have a water softener but this has helped the tea kettle we keep filling on wood stove from accumulating too much sediment.

Even though there was only one review on this wine cellar when I bought it, I decided to go ahead and take the chance on this gift for my husband. The other reviewer said that it is really noisy and I would have to disagree somewhat. If you're looking for a refrigerator that is perfectly silent, this is not; however, it is not disturbingly loud. It has a fan that kicks in to keep it cool & it's the equivalent of the hum of a desktop computer. It doesn't bother me since it's in the kitchen with other noisy refrigerators, dish washers, etc. This unit is a great size -holds just the right amount of bottles that you'd want to chill, it is a very sleek design (although the one we received was not all silver like the one in the picture, it has a stainless door but black on the sides/back) and compliments our other appliances. I would definitely recommend getting this one with the digital controls it's worth having the ease of temp control with the push of a button & always being able to tell how cold it is. Right out of the box, it plugs right into the outlet and begins cooling. One of the reviews said that it was way too loud, but mine hardly makes any sound at all. In fact, you forget it's there, it's so quiet. Perhaps that person's cellar was faulty, who knows all I know is, this is a great little cellar and keeps the perfect temperature.

I purchased this as a christmas present for my husband. I agree with many of the posts, it is a little noisy, but not anymore than any refrigerator. It did a great job, made two buck chuck even taste good! But after two months, it stopped cooling, other wise I woud have given it a higher rating, BUT even though it was a pain to have it die, Haier was wonderful to work with. I called them and they did some trouble shooting with me and agreed, the unit was dead. They emailed me a form to put our serial tag on and fa it in. We are waiting now for our new unit. So I have to give it an extra star for good customer service.

I was a little apprehensive about purchasing this item based on reviews for other, larger wine cellars by this manufacturer, but I'm very happy that I went with this one. I think the larger cellars might have too much volume for the cooler to keep up, so they don't work as well, but this one seems to keep an even temperature throughout. It looks very nice, with a blue LED on the inside that you can leave on or turn off. The digital controls are easy to use and make it trivial to keep your cellar at whatever temperature you prefer. When you open the door you can see the temperature go up a few degrees, but it only takes a few minutes to go back down to the setpoint. The racks are shaped only for a standard bottle size, but you can put unusually shaped bottles, like champagne bottles, on the bottom and they fit just fine. Also, there's enough clearance that you can still close the door with bottles that have been opened and re-corked inside. Other reviewers complained about the cellar being loud, but I can't even hear it over the sound of my air conditioner. I'm also really happy with the size because it can sit on my kitchen counter without being a nuisance.

I bought this refrigerator last year based on all the information I found at multiple websites. I must admit that based on reviews on the Amazon website I was very leery. I have found that the reviews on Amazon are usually correct, But not this time. I was willing to take a chance and buy a GE refrigerator due to they have been in business for so long, and been making good products or would have been out of business a long time ago.

This is the first refrigerator with an ice maker, and water dispenser I have ever owned, and so far it being almost one year old has been a great machine. Even with an ice maker I have seen a reduction in my electric bill by almost 20$/month, some of which could be due to my new TV also. Nonetheless water/ice and a reduction in elctricy usage was a nice surprise. Lots of room in this fridge, could easily accommodate a very large turkey, and for a family of 5 we have plenty of room for what we need to store. The only Con, (which is not really a big deal for me) is that with the glass shelves they show all the dirt off, so if you want your fridge to look spotless you will find yourself cleaning off the shelves frequently. Spill proof is what they call the shelves, and that is kind of misleading, the ledge around the shelf will catch small amounts of liquid, and therefore makes it easier to keep clean, but you could easily spill enough to go over the edge of these shelves. Overall I am very pleased with this refrigerator, and would buy again.

12/27/11 I was thinking that there was one important thing that I left out. based on some expert advice i bought and used a surge supressor with this refrigerator from day one since it is run by a computer. Other websites had recomended this to protect the circuits use to regulate the refrigerator.

6/25/12 Still extreamly pleased with this refrigerator, just put in second new water filter about 2 months ago. The vegatable drawer is nothing short of amazing it keeps the stuff fresh far longer than I would expect, more than double the time of my old fridge.

In my opinion my GE Profile side by side has been the worst refrigerator that I have ever owned. Most all of the drawers have cracked, along with the rails that hold them. The ice machine never works properly. I have had the entire water valve fail and flood my floor and ruin everything inside the refrigerator---need I go on because this isn't the end of my problems with the unit. I will definitely never purchase another GE product. I have also written to GE about this product but did not hear back from them. I feel like I got stuck with a big lemon.

We bought all GE appliances when we remodeled a few years ago. The diswasher, stove and microwave were all fine, But I would never, ever in a million years buy a GE refrigerator again.

There are a few good reviews here, and to them I would like to say "Congratulations! Either you got one of the rare non-lemon machines, or your refrigerator has not yet fallen apart." But the bad reviews are all the same as what I've experienced, and you will find many, many, many more of them when you visit other review sites.

From the start, there has been a leak inside the refrigerator, where it connects to the ice machine. Huge chunks of ice build up there and have to be regularly pried off with a screw driver. The extra liquid pooling where it's not supposed to be also creates a black mold buildup ijnside the fridge that has to be cleaned up every few weeks.

But that's not the worst. The worst is that this refrigerator (and especially the freezer) WILL NOT HOLD A TEMPERATURE! If you buy this fridge, you're setting yourself up for food poisoning. Our freezer defrosts completely at least once a week without warning and for no reason. All of the ice in the ice machines melts completely. (We do not store things like meat in this freezer for this reason -we use another, older freezer we're lucky to have downstairs.) Then everything will refreeze, again, but at a degraded quality.

And now the rubber gasket on the fridge has come completelly loose.

We're out of warranty (the problems for everyone always seem to start as soon as the warranty runs out), and I've read that a fix will cost at least $900 -half the price of the original unit. Unfortunately we just married off our daughter and finished a remodel in the other part of the house, so we can't afford a new fridge. When we get one, though, there is NO WAY IN HELL that it will be a GE. I will be boycotting GE on everything for the rest of my life.

Made in mexico from cheap parts from third world countries. Failures include water valve (ruined wood floor), ice maker, and mother board. No more GE for me.

Our GE Profile looks great side by side with a nice water/ice dispenser. We also bought a Master Protection Plan for 5 years with it. However, our joy was short-lived. 18 months ago, there were a lot of issues with over-freezing inside the freezer compartment. That was resolved after 3 visits from the repair guys. Recently, the fridge started making a lot of noise. After returning from work one day, I found everything in the fridge at room temperature. Now, I am juggling my schedule between many windows of time given by the repair folks. It's been 14 days since, different repairmen come in every time. One orders a part, the next one doesn't know why that part was ordered. No prompt appointments are available --the next one is in two weeks from now. It has been such a frustrating experience.

Looks like there are quite a few "known issues" with the GE Profile. The circuit-boards are faulty and they have received lots of customer complaints regarding similar issues. I don't know if mine will be fixed, but I'd never recommend a GE Profile...

SquareTrade 4-Year Appliance Protection Plan (Below $50)

I use the Squaretrade Warranty to provide insurance for products that are unique but have a questionable quality history. I bought a television and bought this warranty. I bought a slow cooker and bought this warranty. Both products are still working great (knock on wood) and my interaction with Squaretrade so far gives me every indication that they would have my back if one of these products crapped-out on me. Receipts are maintained online and correspondence is via email. It couldn't be easier. The price is the most reasonable of any warranty programs I have found. For example, the television warranty (Squaretrade) I bought was more than half as much as the same warranty offered by the seller. And the Squaretrade warranty was a year longer! Do your own comparisons. You won't be disappointed. If I ever make a claim, I will update this review.

I have several of these Square Trade Warranties. I put them on anything that has a poor record of reliability. The Square Trade Warranties are economical and easy to set up on their web site. I have never used their warranty service yet, but I have canceled a couple of warranties with them and the refund was back in my PayPal account in just a few minutes! I have the feeling that Square Trade will take care of me when I finally need them!

Well, I finally hit the mother lode! After having tried just about every type of java maker under the proverbial sun(high-end Bunn, french press, vaccum pot,ceramic manual drip,etc. etc.) I can say this is the best (there may be a better one, but I am not gonna look any further!)! It makes a really smooth, full-bodied great tasting cup of coffee. Here are some things I have learned that may help you:

1. For me, coarse grind is the best because when you use a filter, the water stays in the basket longer and the drip grind was less smooth.

2, Even Presto recommends using a paper filter and they send you some free samples, which are 'wrap around'. I do NOT like these, and I had ordered the Miletta wrap arounds before I used one. You can see my review under that product and I gave it 2 stars. They are too big, cumbersome, and it makes no sense to cover the grounds with paper while the coffee is brewing. I scissor-cut them down to a circular size using a regular percolator filter (Bunn) and that works great. It covers the full interior of the basket and leaves the top open.

3. Try to use spring or filtered water.....can't imagine using tap water!

4. I wrote to Presto and got the following info:

A. After the red light comes on indicating the brew is ready, you can leave it on pretty much as long as you like (hours) but they said it does tend to get stronger the longer it is plugged in.

B. Now, this is the part I like, after you have turned the maker off and taken the stem and basket out, the coffee can be re-heated in the pot after you plug it back in! I've tried it and it tastes the same even after about 12 hours from the initial brewing.

This is just the ultimate non-commercial coffee maker , in my opinion. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Water Sentinel WSL-1 Refrigerator Replacement Filter

I am a a/c fridge tech. I do not like non OEM products as a rule for these items since they sometimes have a short life or can cause problems with units even if they fit. However, instead of paying up to $69.00 for LG's OEM LT 500 P, I read the reviews people posted who bought this filter. Other then it cycles less gallons then the OEM and may not have the additional micro filter as the OEM, I was able to purchased from this vendor a twin pack for $37.50 and free shipping. Less then $19.00 each. If both this filters lasted as long as the OEM, I still save $30.00. I took a chance and purchased these filters. They fit my fridge perfectly and no leaks. After bleeding the filter for 15 minutes, the water came out crystal clear. Since buying it in June, it has performed perfectly. I do have a 5 year line filter on my main water supply which I got from Home Depot twice and did last 5 years to catch the microbs smaller then any other filter and this cost $30.00. This filter origionally was for our drinking water and I just started the second one a few days ago after I installed the non OEM fridge filter. The water and ice from the WSL-1 came out as clear, odorless, and no bad taste for a month before I put the other line filter on as a backup. I could not tell the difference between this filter from WaterSentinel and the more expensive professional filter. I will check the fridge filter in 6 months and change it with the second one it came with just to cut it open and see what it caught the first six months and re-comment back here again. Bottome line I went over 300 words to say this is a good deal either way. Do not use any other vendor since some of them take forever to ship and no guarentee. I received the WaterSentinel in 7 days of ordering and they were new. Hope this helps.

I don't know what fridge we have but I know it's a Kenmore which is actually made by LG and I assume that because I needed LG filters that cost me my first child.

Thank the sweet lawd for these at like 1/2 the price. Fit perfectly and the water still tastes like water.

This is a great filter and is compatible to Sears Kenmore refrigerator, only much less expensive! I could instantly tell the water taste much better with using it.

I purchased it through another website and got a slightly better deal , but the price on Amazon is pretty close. I bought the stainless steel dual tap version of this, which is essentially the same but I like the look better than black. I have to qualify by saying I've only had it for about a 30 days so I can't comment on long term reliability. As for looks, I love the stainless look which is worth the extra $40 over black. Stainless really makes it look classy. The fittings, hoses and connections were all flawless. It came with all the o-rings, most of which were already attached. The fridge setting I have is on the second lowest cold setting and it gets the beer in my keg really cold. It makes a loud clicking and/or popping noise from time to time like my other small fridge but otherwise runs quiet (this noise is the defrosting as I understand it). The fridge is probably pretty standard to other kegerators, but looks nice and the fittings should last a long time. I can fit two 1/6 kegs and a 5lb CO2 tank inside the fridge, with not much room to spare.

Set up directions are very bad but set up is simple. Love that it came with a 7.5 pound co2 tank... The description had said 5 pound tank so I do not know how I ended up with that bonus. Looks nice works well no problems with to much head which is a common problem. For the money very good deal. Only downside is it is loud.... So if is going in a panty or garage it is perfect.

This "cooler" does not cool below 54 degrees unless we completely remove it from the cabinet. We have vented the cabinet in the back and on both sides to release the amazing amount of heat this machine gives off and still the temperature will not drop enough to chill properly while in the cabinet. We bought this one to fit in a space from a trash compactor. You must pull out each shelf to place a bottle on it, you can't just slide a bottle onto a shelf. The appearance is quite nice and goes well with our other stainless steel appliances. We're still looking for solutions to the overheating problem.

This product gives off too much heat, and the shelves are flimsy wooden shelves that fall out easily and are too close to each other so that the bottles do not fit on each shelf. I had to remove every other shelf. It also does not cool to the temperatures listed. Unfortunately the cost to return is not worth the hassle. Sigh.

Stay away from this company and their products. I bought this unit brand new just a couple of weeks ago and could not tap a keg because of a defective part. I was told that I would have to purchase the replacement part. I expressed my displeasure with their rep and that I would make sure to write a negative review and never purchase their products again and quite frankly, he could have cared less. So buyer beware when it comes to Vinotemp. I would give zero stars but unfortunately this is not an option.

The 21 bottle I got looks a little different then this one, and so far very pleased with the performance. Fits perfectly where I placed it and it holds my whites on the top and reds on the bottom zone. Very quiet! unlike my refrigerator.
