  • FreshFlow(TM) Air Filter helps to minimize odor transfer inside the refrigerator
  • Temperature-controlled full-width pantry provides separate compartment for meats, deli items, and cheeses

The worst thing about this refrigerator is that it is extremely and annoyingly LOUD. According to the rep they sent out, my fridge noise is "normal," however, I had to move my home office due to the high pitched noise and general noisy running sounds of this unit. It does not seem to bother the men in my house, but many women have commented on it. I have to keep music on in the room to keep it from grating on my nerves. I would NOT recommend this model to anyone and would love to get rid of mine. It is one of the worst purchases I have ever made.

Bosch SHX98M09UC 800 24" Stainless Steel Semi Integrated Dishwasher - Energy Star

Bosch SHX98M09UC 800 24' Stainless Steel Semi Integrated Dishwasher - Energy Star
  • NSF Certified
  • AQUA STOP(R) Leak Protection
  • QUICK WASH
  • Extra Tall Item Sprinkler
  • OPTI DRY(R)

Every year my wife and I buy something for the house as an anniversary present to each other. This year we decided to replace our aging GE Potscrubber 900 dishwasher.

I research the heck out of major purchases, and one of my friends used to work at an appliance store, so I quickly found Bosch had possibly the best reputation for dishwashers.

After deciding to go with Bosch, it was just a question of which model.

After looking over the choices, it boiled down to this one, or one model below. This one was quieter, and more energy efficient. Electric rates in Connecticut are high enough that I expect to make up the cost difference between the two models with electricity savings.

So much for how I got here. Here's information from using it:

It's incredibly quiet the "noise level" when it's running is about what you'd expect from a new refrigerator. Noise is not going to be a reason to postpone running this one.

The racks have all sorts of adjustments most of the tines can be set at several angles ranging from 90 degrees to flat. Have extra bowls to wash? adjust a few tines. The top rack can be adjusted for height this allows me to fit the massive pot I use for brewing beer in the lower rack.

The silverware basket keeps the silverware separated so each item gets clean.

It has a gentle cycle that's good for delicate china and stemware. I was sorry to find the stemware holder is an optional accessory. We don't drink wine often, but it's about the only thing that seems to be missing.

So far everything we've put through this dishwasher has come out clean on one cycle. With our previous dishwasher, sometimes we'd need to soak and scrub some things before putting them through a second run. I'm using about half the soap I used to use per load because it doesn't have (or need) a prewash cup for soap.

The run time is longer than we were used to with our previous dishwasher. From my research I've found this is normal with more efficient dishwashers. Our longest cycle so far was 2 hours 25 minutes, and that was auto wash for a very full load with a sanitary cycle. They also offer a "party wash" cycle that's designed to be very fast for lightly soiled glasses or dishes.

You should use jetdry or a drying agent on every load. One reason it's so energy efficient is it doesn't normally add heat for drying. (but you can tell it to add heat if you want) Still, with using jetdry, the dishes are always dry when we check.

We expect to be in this house for many years, and looked at this appliance as a long term investment. So far, it looks like it was a good one.

Looks good and is so quiet it has a little red LED that shiones on the floor to let you know that it is washing.

BUT...

Bosch customer service is horrible. The worst I have come across in 52 years.

The electronics are failure prone. We have had the dishwasher for 3 years and have had the control module fail 3 times. Each time it took a minimum of 3 service visits to get it replaced. The excuse we have heard each time is that Bosch dishwashers are relatively unknown and the parts are hard to get. The first time the electronics failed, it took 3 MONTHS to get it repaired and we are in a major metro area with a population of 4 million.

We will not purchase a Bosch dishwasher again, and when it fails next, we will buy CR's top rated Kenmore, which ios $1,000 cheaper and apparently much more reliable.

We purchased this Bosch dishwasher SHX98M09UC after much Internet research 2 months ago and have used it every day since.

The dishwasher is light enough to be maneuvred into place by one person and the installation was rather simple with the very complete instructions provided. The operation manual is also clear and the controls easy to understand.

The design is stunning: all stainless in the front, with a heavy-duty handle and very nice digital display on the facade, although the actual touch controls are hidden on top of the door. The inside is stainless steel also, great at retaining heat. All accessories are high grades and we appreciate the adjustable top rack and removable silverware holders. As with all stainless appliances, it's hard to keep it looking clean very long as it shows finger prints a lot more than painted appliances.

The drain is covered with an easy-to-remove filter basket that we have not had to empty yet in 2 months of use (I understand some cheaper dishwashers have small "garbage-disposal" instead of a collecting basket, and those can fail or not always work properly as well as being noisy)

It's energy efficient as I understand the drying is performed by the heat retained in the walls of the washer. So far, we have not observed any difference in our electric bill.

I believe it also uses small amounts of water (it's a very small water line going to the washer and a few seconds are always enough to pump enough water for the program. Emptying is also very quick)

The cleanliness of the dishes is good on the Auto Wash program, which we have been using most.

With the recommended drying agent, glasses and fine china come out looking very good with no water spot.

Heavy soiled pots may need a little rinse before the wash, especially with some caked-on food, such as eggs.

Plastic ware comes out OK from the top rack and, with the limited heat of this dishwasher, is not warped.

The main reason why we decided on this washer is the noise rating: the quietest we could find in our price range. And on this point, we were just blown away! The first time we turned it on, we had trouble believing it was running! Our kitchen is open to the living room and now, no need to turn up the volume on the TV when the dishwasher is running (big difference from the old Whirlpool we had before). To me, this only is worth the high price tag!

Even the water emptying into the sink pipes is very quiet.

Before buying, I had considered the equivalent Kenmore Elite (same price) but the noise rating was 4 dB more (3 dB= double the noise!) and the racks a tad flimsier at first look. The Kenmore Elite had more gadgets such as a "turbo wash" nozzle, knife holder and additional washing programs and options. In general, I prefer simpler systems that are reliable and of high quality so I am very happy with this Bosch choice.

I would warmly recommend this appliance if you need a new dishwasher that doesn't rattle and wake you up!

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

UPDATE 2010: We have been using the dishwasher for nearly a year now and it's as great as the first day we got it.

The drain basket rarely needs emptying, the dishes are clean and never damaged (especially plastics), the washer is very easy to operate and most of all, it's so quiet it still surprises us!

Don't hesitate: this is an excellent buy!

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

UPDATE 1/27/2012: I am surprised to see that so many reviewers report issues so I wanted to add a couple comments:

Here, the dishwasher is going strong and it still looks as good as when we received it.

We have had one hiccup when we moved to Costco's Kirkland liquid dishwasher detergent: the dishes were no longer as clean as expected and it took us a while to figure out that going back to the tablets Bosch recommends for their machine would bring back the perfect performance. In the meantime, another liquid detergent gave us very poor results too (can't remember the brand?): it seems that this dishwasher should be used with tablets only.

Since going back to the recommended (is it Finish? It's the ones with the red ball in the center) tablets, we couldn't be happier!

I also noticed comments about dishes not being dry. I wanted to mention that we always use a rinse/dry agent (the washer indicates when it runs out). We have been changing brands depending on availability/sales so it must not be as important as using tablets. The only time the dishes are not completely dry is if you open the washer before the end of the program: it's a bit tricky because it sounds like nothing is happening anymore when it is drying; it is totally quiet but the display gives you a drying time.

I wish all could be as satisfied as we are...

Want Bosch SHX98M09UC 800 24" Stainless Steel Semi Integrated Dishwasher - Energy Star Discount?

We remodeled our kitchen and purchased this particular Bosch because it seemed like a great machine and there were some good reviews I decided to ignore the bad reviews thinking the complainers were just unhappy people. Well, now it is 3 months later and my dishes are not drying, the door is not functioning (it's floppy), and it is leaking all over my hardwood floors! (sorry complainers, i should have listened) I suspect all of these problems are related to each other, because it makes sense logically, but getting someone to come out and fix it has been awful and I live in the Metro DC area where you would think there'd be a lot of companies who would service Bosch when they are under warranty. Apparently many of the companies don't like to take warranty work (i'm sure the fee schedule is not very good for them) so its been a challenge. Only one company has been somewhat polite to me while I seek repair, and I'm going with them. In addition, and not related to the fact that it is broken, I think I underestimated how small this dishwasher actually is inside. It's very small, I can't fit nearly as much, and I am very good at loading so as to maximize use of the entire space. Nobody had this model on the floor, and since it was so expensive, I figured it would be larger inside than the others I did see. I'm not a fan of the silverware basket either, its awkward to use and fits very little. There was also this tray thing at the top that I can't figure out what it is for, and it is annoying. Maybe I need to read about what it is in the book. I will say that it is definitely quiet you can barely hear it that is rather amazing. I also think the red light is nice. Overall, I think I could have done better and spent far less and next time I will do a better job researching. Now, if I can just get this fixed!!

The DW looked nice--really quiet, worked fine while it worked. But very poor reliability. Once it fails, you are out of luck. Authorized repair is backlogged (hmmm, I wonder why?), and knows they are the only choice you have. Calls to Bosch are useless-they have your money and will not stand behind their products--they told me "repairs are not our problem!!!" Costs for repairs are outrageous. And 'authorized repair' makes all-day appointments and does not show up or call, and when they finally showed up the 2nd day I took off work, they REPAIRED THE WRONG PART so it still didn't work and I had to miss a 3rd day of work for a single repair! After 2 repairs and needing a 3rd for $500, mine went to the dump and I replaced it with non-Bosch for half the price that cleans as well, actually works, and is 98% as quiet. I bought a Bosch front loading stacked washer about the same time as the DW--same issues--frequent overpriced repairs, poor service, etc. My old DW and washer were over 10 years old with no problems, and my new non-Bosch ones have needed no repairs-I wouldn't take a Bosch product for free.

  • Kenmore HE2 Plus washer bellow 8540952 AP4379904

My old bellow on my washer was accumulating a black mold and no amount of cleaning could get rid of or prevent it. I read online the product is easily replaced following these instructions. (repair manual for HE2 washer same as whirlpool duet:

The hardest part was putting the outside spring wire that holds the bellow in place, back on. What worked for me was to use two sets of needle nose pliers and grab both ends of the spring and pull the spring apart while placing the wire around the bellow. It took me about 1 hour to remove and replace this piece, mainly because I cleaned the inside of the washer and I also cleaned the filter (located at the bottom of most front load washers you already have it open you might as well). It was a good thing I cleaned the filter it was full of mildew smelling garbage and about $1.50 in change. This is not a hard task to complete, and it is cheaper than buying new or hiring a repair guy.

Not a 100% perfect fit, but it works. Appears to be wider than the original, but in spite of that, it does seal and it did not leak during the initial test.

This product is a great replacement when you need it for your washer. This part tends to collect with mold and begins to smell. The installation is a little difficult but it can be done. Putting the tension band back on to the washing machine is the most difficult part and I needed the wife's hands to help. I will tell you this, replacing this part saved me from buying a new machine and saved me quite a bit of money. There are no compatibility issues at all, everything was a snug fit and there are no leaks.

I bought this after the original one got a rip in it. The washer (Epic Z) is only 1-1/2 years old, but has always leaked around the seal.

We read up on it and thought it was because we were overloading it.

Then my wife accidently tore the bottom and it started to leak more.

Ordered the bellow, and it only took about an hour to replace. Watched a how-to on Youtube first.

Avanti Energy Saver Water Dispenser

Avanti Energy Saver Water DispenserWhile it took a while to get here, my husband agrees with me that the Avanti Hot and Cold Water Dispenser was well worth the wait.

After our old dispenser gave up the ghost after twenty plus years, we looked at each other and said, 'what do we do now?' We tried shopping for another one locally but nobody had what we were looking for and we were, quite frankly, spoiled.

What do we like about the Avanti?

As the poet put it, let me count the ways.

First of all, because of its Energy Saver feature, the Avanti consumes less electricity than our old dispenser which ran constantly. It was also noisy. The Avanti, in contrast, is very quiet.

The Avanti features a neat little safety lock on the hot water faucet, which the old dispenser did not The storage space in the bottom, while it doesn't keep anything cold, is quite handy.

The Avanti's white plastic square design looks clean and nice. Our old brown metal dispenser did not. Also, unlike some of the round dispensers we looked at, the Avanti is not 'tippy'. Since it sits next to the kitchen doorway and a heavy traffic area, this was a real concern.

We also looked at dispensers that pumped from the bottom as well as the reviews and decided they were not for us.

The only CON was a chemical, almost musty, taste in the water for a few weeks after we got the Avanti, but that is now gone.

All in all, we are extremely pleased with the Avanti. It's much, much better than our old dispenser and we definitely give it 5 stars.

Update 7/3/2012

Now there is a problem. (Another reviewer had the same thing happen to them in December 2010 and, in their case, it was a broken hot water line.).

When I changed the three gallon bottle for a fresh one yesterday, everything seemed fine.

As recommended, (and as usual), I left the unit unplugged, ran 4 cups of water out through the hot water faucet then plugged in the unit and turned it on.

My husband woke me at around 11 p.m. with the news that there was a huge puddle around the dispenser and what should he do? I unplugged the unit, removed the bottle and emptied the reservoir through the hot water faucet. A seam along the top of the bottom cabinet door was wet and the drip catcher under the faucets was full.

Not wanting to spend the rest of the night working on the problem, I unplugged the unit and removed the bottle altogether.

After carefully drying everything off this afternoon, I replaced the bottle, removed another 4 cups of water via the hot water faucet, plugged in the unit again and turned on the hot and cold water. At first everything seemed fine. Then an hour later, I found another puddle. This time it appeared to be the result of an overflow from the reservoir, and the water level, which I had carefully marked on the outside of the bottle, had gone down about 25%.

We have spent the rest of today trying this and that. Now the new bottle is empty, there is still a puddle of water on the floor, tomorrow is July 4th and it's too late in the day to call Avanti's Customer Service. However, first thing, Monday, I'm going to call them and see what they have to say.

Film at 11.

Update, Tuesday, July 10, 2012

I called Avanti's Customer Service number yesterday. Once I reached a technician, she questioned me about the problem in detail and I listed all the steps I had followed.

She said, in her opinion, we needed a service call and gave the number of an authorized repair shop in our area.

The repairman arrived first thing this morning. After he checked out the entire unit and found no problem, he called Avanti's Customer Service.

The Avanti technician suggested that he look at the water bottle. He did and, sure enough, there was our problem. We'd been using three gallon plastic molded bottles which we'd purchased from the same health food store where we get our distilled water.

The bottle has four seams around the top, which fits snugly into the collar above the reservoir. When we examined the last bottle we used, we noticed some extra material on a couple of the seams. This extra material is known in the plastic molding industry as 'flash' and it's supposed to be trimmed or buffed off as soon as the part comes out of the press. (More years ago than I care to count, I worked as a press operator in a plastic molding plant which made glasses for American Airlines. So I know all about 'flash'.)

The Avanti Customer Service technician said this is not an uncommon problem with these plastic bottles.

As the repairman explained, the Avanti dispenser's operation depends on maintaining an intact vacuum seal between the bottle's top and the reservoir. When a defective bottle is installed, the sheer weight of three gallons of water creates the necessary vacuum seal and it'll stay that way with no leaks until a certain amount of water is removed from the dispenser. However, as the bottle's level goes down, it weighs less and raises slightly. This, in turn, exposes the four seams around the bottle's top. The space between the the extra seam material, or 'flash', creates an air space between the bottle and the reservoir collar. When this happens, the vacuum seal is lost. The bottle level then starts gradually going down by itself for no apparent reason and, after an hour or so, there's water all over the floor.

Because our dispenser is over two years old and out of warranty, we had to pay for the service call. However, it was worth it to us and I will still give the Avanti Water Dispenser an unequivocal five stars both for their Customer Service department's helpful and courteous response and the excellence of the product itself.

December 9, 2012

Update: Our Avanti dispenser is still working fine and, to date, we've had no more problems. I will say though, for anyone who might be interested, we only use distilled water which we purchase at a local health food for .89c per gallon. It's also very important to remove 4 cups of water from the dispenser via the hot water faucet immediately after replacing the bottle.

I spent a long time trying to find the best water dispenser in this lower-end price range, and I finally decided on the Avanti WDP75. I had two GE water dispensers for 8 years, one was a higher priced stainless model with digital features, mini frig, etc, and the other a white model similar in price and features to this Avanti. So my comparison is against the GE model that sells in Home Depot for about $120.

Pros:

Very Quiet operation.

Energy Star feature: this was important to me, but it's hard to know for sure how much electricity it consumes. I do not use the hot water, so I keep that turned off. The unit shows when the chilling cycle goes on, and it is not constant, so I believe the unit is energy efficient. I was happy that the bottom is not a mini-frig, since that was a waste of electricity, and I found that the refrig area got a musty smell from moisture.

The cold water is a perfectly chilled temperature, not as ice-cold as the $300 digial GE model, and that is a plus for me. The lower priced GE model would freeze up every day, and I would have to turn off the cold, let it defrost, then try again for a few hours before it froze up again. I would never buy that GE model again for that reason, and I am so happy to say that after 2 months of use, the Avanti has never frozen up, and the cold water is a constant temperature all day. That is what I got the dispenser for.

The unit has seperate reservoirs for hot and cold water, so if you turn off either the hot or cold, that side will dispense room temperature water.

The press down area to dispense the water is easy and the water flows very quickly. I read reviews of other models which said it took a long time to fill a cup. That is not the case with this Avanti.

It's a good height and very stable. Some dispensers seemed too low, but this is the standard height, with easy access to use.

Cons:

I followed the directions exactly, and also followed the optional step of using baking soda and water and let it sit overnight. It still had a metallic musty taste. I called Customer Service and they told me to put a half cup of bleach in a gallon of water and flush it through. I did that and it still had a bad taste. It took 3 days and many gallons of water, but it is good now. I wish they could do this before it gets to the customer.

I asked Customer Service if the reservoirs were accessible to clean, and was told no, there is no way to clean the reservoirs except by adding the bleach water to the top and flushing it through.

It's ok looking, but not exactly stylish. But its a water cooler, so ok.

It does not have the feature which punctures the water bottle top. You have to peel off the sticker of the water bottle and push in the plastic center before turning the open 5 gallon bottle upside down into the dispenser. I really do not like this feature, and I don't like the way the water bottle just sits in the top reservoir of water it doesn't seem stable. The top of the 5 gallon water bottle should be cleaned with alcohol or bleach before inserting, because it literally sits in the water that is being dispensed. Despite all the other good features, I may not have bought this model if I saw this. The other models had a self-puncturing piece as part of a ring that supported the bottle. I thought all dispensers had this.

Compared to the similar priced GE dispenser, the Avanti is MUCH better because of the efficient cooling system. I also like the dispensing buttons and flow much better on the Avanti than the GE. In this price range, this model is fine. If the disadvantages are an issue, then it is necessary to go up in price to something with more features.

Quick update: I'm very satisfied with the dispenser. I don't mind the bottle-top issue, and we can turn it over without any spillage. The bottle sits securely into the opening, so it is stable. I just clean off the top and neck of the water bottle with alcohol before inserting. Works great for nice chilled water!

After reading the reviews I was not sure what to expect. But we are really happy with the water dispenser. It arrived in very good condition. No water leakage etc. We left it in upright position for 2 hours before the first use, and it worked ever since!

I agree with the previous reviews in all the positive aspects and to our biggest surprise, only the very first cups had the 'burned plastic' taste. After the fist 5 gallon bottle, the taste was completely gone. Thumbs up!

Pro: This water dispenser does exactly what we wanted it to. We turned off the cold and just have two temperatures: room temperature and hot. That allows me to drink endless hot drinks made from bottled water without constantly resorting to the microwave.

Con: There isn't enough height under the dispensers to fit a small pitcher under them for making coffee. That is mildly inconvenient.

Bought this item as a gift for my son's family, so I had a lot of requirements to meet. Product for the price was the best I found. Main concern was safety of my grandchildren due to the hot water feature. Happy to say, with the temperature control and safety latch there has been no problems. Water tastes like it should and not "plastic" as some other brands have had reported. Very pleased with the service Amazon gives.

Bought this November, 2011 and we're replacing it by January, 2013. Hate it. No cover on single light so it's dark inside. The door shelves have a huge gap between the bottom of the shelf and the bottom of the side bar so everything smaller than a milk bottle falls out all the time.

Now after a little more than a year it's not cold enough and I just tossed a bunch of spoiled food.

This is the second one of this model we had delivered. We wanted a fridge with a built-in ice maker. The first one produced ice that tasted like toxic waste. The appliance repair guy told it was due to some sort of sprayed they used to seal the thing. Called the company and they absolutely blew me off. Jura 67083 Cool Control Milk Cooler

Jura 67083 Cool Control Milk CoolerWorks well, but works better with constant cleaning of the tube. If you are making a bunch of lattes at once, this is your machine. For just one person it might be overkill. I would give it 5 stars but after the power goes out it doesn't turn itself back on, so if you are not home you will have bad milk.

A colleague had ordered this and we both have nearly identical Jura automatic espresso machines. We both work from home, so I wanted something that would make my machine a little more automated.

I've purchased wine coolers and other machines which use the same type of induction technology, and I've been 'burned' by them all breaking down early, not keeping the right temperature, etc.

I've had this device for six months now and I'm still just as pleased with it as the day I unboxed it. Milk is truly kept cold consistently and it's incredibly quiet.

Cons: If you're a Skim milk drinker, and you wait a couple days before using it, I've noticed that the milk can sometimes freeze up or develop ice crystals. I've been able to mitigate this by filling the outer tank with barely just enough water for it to reach the brim when the container is inside of it.

Also, the tube can be a hassle to clean. Sometimes the suction power pulls milk through and lets it sit there in the tube. You have to be conscientious to clean it thoroughly after each use or each day.

I do some work from my home so the Jura Z5 is on most of the day. Milk used for froth of my cappuccino gets warm in the standard containers but this cooler takes care of the problem. It will keep milk in the low 30 degree area and runs quiet. It may seem a bit eccentric but I love it. The Amazon price is great, about $80.00 cheaper than buying it from Jura. Keep up the good work.

Overall, terrific and works as advertised. The minor complaint: the stainless tube attaches to the lid by means of a silicone "washer" it's not quite snug enough to keep the tube from falling into the milk container reliably. A seemingly minor fix if they would just make the silicone washer slightly larger. Not a deal-breaker, but worth noting. Also, you need to wash this container no less than once a week otherwise milk solids tends to collect in the lid which will impart an off taste to the fresh milk that comes through it.

Want Jura 67083 Cool Control Milk Cooler Discount?

I had always wanted something like this for my Jura S7 automatic espresso machine. It is much more convenient that steaming individual containers of milk, even though I am the only user each morning. I have only had it several days but have been satisfied thus far in its ability to keep the milk cold. One liter seems a lot, but once you have the dispensing convenience, it is surprising how quickly you can go through milk. It integrates nicely with the coffee maker and does not take up too much counter space. I tend to use the milk steamer and not the frother as the froth quantity is too much for my taste.

Pros: Finally I am able to make use of the Froth Express Plus feature; Convenience, especially for multiple single cups. I do not hear the fan that others complain about.

Cons: Condensation; Wish the cap was more like a thermos and clamped down on the entire device-this would stop condensation and keep the milk colder; matte finish is prone to spotting from liquid splashes-should be like the coffee maker finish which is easy to wipe; Large transformer block plug takes up plug space-beware.

Electrolux EIMGD55IIW IQ-Touch 8 Cu. Ft. White Stackable With Steam Cycle Gas Front Load Dryer

Electrolux EIMGD55IIW IQ-Touch 8 Cu. Ft. White Stackable With Steam Cycle Gas Front Load DryerWe bought one of these dryers in late 2011, and loved it: looks and works great.

Then we moved in 2013, and after installing the dryer in the new house, the lint inside the dryer housing ignited. Some of the lint must have shifted during the move, moving closer to the gas heater source. Luckily, the fire didn't cause major damage. I did some research online, and came across a class-action suite, "", which seems to indicate that this was not just an isolated incident.

You need to take the back of the dryer off in order to see the lint buildup inside the dryer housing (around the drum motor, heater source, etc), and vacuum up as much lint as possible. My wife is meticulous about cleaning the lint trap with every load, so there may be a design issue involved letting the lint migrate inside the housing. We will keep using it, but will check the lint build-up often to make sure it is safe.

Whirlpool Part Number 2254574: Tray, Evaporator

Whirlpool Part Number 2254574: Tray, EvaporatorGreat product. It was easy to install, the tray fit perfect, and at a reasonable price, what more could one want?

I have to admit, this review seems a little silly to do but Amazon sent the request so here it is. The product is a drip tray for my garage refrigerator. The existing tray had cracked in half for some strange reason ( its not like I take it out and play with it everyday) so I have to blame the tight fit and stress. Can't blame age as it was only two years old. Anyway, I was quite surprised to find the replacement on Amazon and at a reasonable price too. Order came quickly and was the correct replacement.

NewAir AW-180E Space Saver 18 Bottle Thermoelectric Wine Cooler, Black

NewAir AW-180E Space Saver 18 Bottle Thermoelectric Wine Cooler, Black
  • Easy-to-use push button controls make adjusting the temperature simple & quick
  • Offers a compact, freestanding design with a single zone compartment that holds up to 18 bottles of your favorite wine
  • Thermoelectric technology features few moving parts for quiet & vibration free operation, enhancing the natural flavors of your wine
  • Boasts a sleek look with a black trimmed door, silver handle & five chrome-plated wine racks
  • Allows for nearly silent operation that wont disturb quiet spaces in your home

This is the second wine cellar I have purchased in the last 3 years and I researched this for a week. The last wine cellar I had was a bust from Oster, a great Black Friday deal but stopped working after 6 months. My experience was that it took several hours to cool down and it was realy picky about the ambient temperature. Just a little dust on the back cover sent the internal temp upward and really, all I wanted was chilled wine!!! After all my research, I kept coming back to this model. This has the "look" I wanted for my kitchen but I had never owned a product by this company. I did read the other reviews regarding the humming sound it makes but in my position my previous wine cellar sounded like a jet taking off each time you opened the door to get out a bottle of wine and it had to kick in to lower the internal temp again.

When I first unpacked the NewAir cellar, my first thought was wow, this is beautiful!! I got it set in it's new home by the wet bar and plugged it in. Gorgeous!! The temperature starting out showed 74 degrees and it was automatically set to go down to 54 degrees. And it got to 54 degrees....in 30 minutes!!!! I was shocked!! So by that time, I loaded about 10 bottles of wine into the cellar. It took about 1 1/2 hours total to chill all that wine that had been at room temperature. I am very impressed with this machine. As for the humming sound, I have yet to hear it. I know it is working because the wine is cold, but not sure what the other reviewer were describing...maybe my kitchen is just noisy!!hahaahaha

Anyway, I would not hesitate to recommend this cellar and will follow up in a few months with an additional review.

09/14/10 UPDATE:

As promised, I wanted to give an update on the New Air Wine Cooler. It is still as great as when I first got it. Because it is thermoelectric, dust does affect the temperature and I noticed that when we were finishing our kitchen remodel, all the dust from sawing wood and drywall did cause the temp to raise a few degrees. I just blew out the back and within 30 seconds the temp started to drop back to 52. Now when I see the temp go up to 53 or 54 I know it is time to blow out the back cover. I would say I do that once every 3 months and for the record, I feel like our house has an inordinate amount of dust year round so in a house with less dust this may not even be needed. I am still very happy with this purchase and highly recommend it.

I've only had this wine fridge for a short time, so I can't comment on its reliability (our last one which we purchased at Lowes lasted about 6 months). It looks good, is a convenient, compact size and seems to work well. But there's no way you can fit 18 bottles in it unless they're slim such as the standard Bordeaux and Alsace shapes. The chubbier Burgundy size and anything larger just won't fit. The only way to get them in is to remove every second rack and make sure you lie slim and chubby bottles side by side. Makes it closer to a 10-12 bottle fridge.

I bought this just over a year ago woke up one morning and it wasn't working no cool air, no led display. No reset button, no apparent way to fix it, other than trying to replace the circuit board in back of the unit. I called the retailer who I bought it from (through Amazon) and they said since the warranty is up, they would do nothing and recommended calling a local repairman.

Even when it was working, I had the unit set at 59 degrees and it never went lower than 63, even when I had my home's AC turned down the lower 70's.

I guess you get what you pay for I'll be spending more on my next one, and it won't be a Newair.

I purchased this wine cooler about 8 months ago. I have seen the cooler not cool to the correct temperature on hot days, I live in Florida so there are a lot of them. I could have lived with this quirk. But a week ago it just stopped working(no cooling, no led display, nothing). I can see that the power supply inside the backpanel is flashing red and green leds, and makes a switching noise. I will not buy from NewAir again because this product is susceptible to breaking within 8 months of use.

We ordered this unit to replace our Magic Chef 12 bottle wine cooler. We wanted a unit that was larger and quieter. The AW-180E NewAir 18 is an attractive and stylish unit, and will look nice in any kitchen or dining room. It was easy to set-up (only the door handle needed to be attached). We were able to place 18 different size bottles of red and white wines inside it without any problem. The controls are simple and easy to operate, and the unit temperature (we set it at 60°F) was reached in a matter of hours and readily maintained. The blue interior light is a nice touch, too. My only reason for not giving it a Five Star rating is that, although quieter than the unit we replaced, it seems to runs continuously (i.e. does not cycle on and off) and therefore you will hear a continuous hum in a silent room. You will not hear it if other backgound noice is present like a TV or stereo. But, in a silent setting you will hear it. To be sure, perhaps a certain amount of noise is to be expected from any cooler. That said, the unit is not "silent."

GE Compatible Refrigerator Water Filter for MWF, GWF, MWFA, GWFA, GWF06

GE Compatible Refrigerator Water Filter for MWF, GWF, MWFA, GWFA, GWF06I like to plan ahead. I purchased the product 2 or 3 months ago so I would have a replacement available when needed. So, in trying to save some money, I ordered this replacement filter for my refrigerator. I put it in yesterday and ran about 3 gallons of water through it. Unfortunately, the water thereafter tasted like it was a used cartridge. The water smelled and tasted foul. My brother-in-law happened to be visiting and I asked him to try it. He said also the water tasted much worse than water straight out of the tap. A few moments ago, I looked to see if I could return or replace it and unfortunately I can't. One thing I don't like is as soon as a product is delivered they look for a review which of course, since I didn't put it in, I couldn't write an honest review. Now I can and am doing so.

As with probably all manufacturers, any maintenance or repair parts are outrageously expensive from the manufacturer. It's nice to have third parties manufacture decent replacement parts for non-critical functions. I know, I may be alone in this, but a water filter is not a critical need for me.

We bought our fridge used and have owned it for 4yrs. No problems overall. Then the water progressively became slower and slower. I knew the filter should be changed every few months, but at $30 a pop it was not going to happen! So, it got to the point where it took forever to fill up a glass and finally decided it was time. Took a gamble and purchased the 3rd party filter. I unhooked the original (probably) filter and twisted in the new one. I probably wasn't fast enough or had enough pressure when installing the new one and got sprayed! Oh well. Chalk one up for silly stories.

Then I went to get a glass and try it out. The water pressure came with the fury of a thousand typhoons and again got sprayed. Alright, a little hyperbole, but I did get wet and I couldn't figure out what I could have done differently to avoid that situation. Maybe a rainsuit?? Again, not a big deal. Tried again and while there was stilll some very significant pressure, along with some funny color (water or filter contaminants I'm not sure...) it eventually cleared and had very quick fill rates. Sorry I didn't time fill rate pre/post installation of an 8oz glass for some hard objective data for the engineers out there. I'll work on that the next time.

As far as function, the water tastes, well like water (though I never really had a taste issue before). The speed is much quicker, but after a couple months time, it has slowed down a little. It's not annoyingly slow, but nonetheless, there is a difference. I've had no other leaks or problems and everything seems to be fine. The cartridge itself is unmarked which is fine by me. Never liked advertising much for other companies, but not many other people see the inside of my fridge.

Overall 4 stars. Would kind of prefer 3.5, but I probably had some user error in the whole process so I won't pass the blame yet. I will probably buy here again and if I have the same shower experience I may edit my review. It's a good price and I get clean water quickly.

Beverage Center- Black

Beverage Center- Black
  • 42 Can (12 oz.) or 17 Bottle Capacity
  • Features: Double Panel Amber Tinted Flat Glass Door with Black Cabinet & Trim
  • Work Top; 3 Full Width Black Vinyl Coated Wire Shelves
  • Recessed Handle; Adjustable Thermostat; Reversible Door; Auto-Defrost; Removable Lower Bottle Rack
  • Flat Back; Adjustable Leveling Legs

this product never worked. I bought it, plugged it in, it tried to go, and it conked out. In addition to not working, there is NO WAY 17 bottles will fit. My roommate and I spent 15 minutes trying all different configurations, and the max we could get in was 14 and that was a bit scary. The bottom section (where the cans are shown) isn't deep enough for wine to go straight back, and will only fit 2-3 (3 very shaky) bottles sideways on each.

This unit is ok for keeping items cool. Unit has a maxiumum cooling temperature of 45*F, because it is not a refrigerator. It does serve the purpose, as long as you are not looking for near freezing beverages.

G.E. Refrigerator Crisper Cover

G.E. Refrigerator Crisper CoverI put WAY too much weight in the drawer and on top of the shelf when my fridge had the original parts. Crack! So I bought this, and found that it is far stronger than the original parts. I used it for a few years, with just as much weight on it as what broke the original. Anyway, after a few years of giving it undue abuse, I finally asked too much of it when I put added a huge frozen turkey to all the other stuff. Yeah, that was dumb. Crack! So it broke. And I came right back and bought the same one again because it's awesome.

fit perfectly and was better quality than original crisper cover that came with the refrigerators. I bought 2 for my rentals and would definitely buy this item again.

Beer Dispenser

Beer Dispenser
  • For Use with 5L Kegs
  • Energy-efficient thermoelectric cooling
  • Ultra-quiet operation
  • Digital display with push button operation
  • Convenient pressure gauge

I received mine in perfect condition. I love this unit, the dual-zone feature is great for storing my white and red wine! It has a great look with wood shelves and the stainless steel door & handle, and is surprisingly quiet. I would definitely recommend this product and purchasing it directly from Vinotemp. Their customer service was great and I had no problems with their shipping!

This "cooler" does not cool below 54 degrees unless we completely remove it from the cabinet. We have vented the cabinet in the back and on both sides to release the amazing amount of heat this machine gives off and still the temperature will not drop enough to chill properly while in the cabinet. We bought this one to fit in a space from a trash compactor. You must pull out each shelf to place a bottle on it, you can't just slide a bottle onto a shelf. The appearance is quite nice and goes well with our other stainless steel appliances. We're still looking for solutions to the overheating problem.

Read Best Reviews of Beer Dispenser Here

This product gives off too much heat, and the shelves are flimsy wooden shelves that fall out easily and are too close to each other so that the bottles do not fit on each shelf. I had to remove every other shelf. It also does not cool to the temperatures listed. Unfortunately the cost to return is not worth the hassle. Sigh.

Want Beer Dispenser Discount?

Stay away from this company and their products. I bought this unit brand new just a couple of weeks ago and could not tap a keg because of a defective part. I was told that I would have to purchase the replacement part. I expressed my displeasure with their rep and that I would make sure to write a negative review and never purchase their products again and quite frankly, he could have cared less. So buyer beware when it comes to Vinotemp. I would give zero stars but unfortunately this is not an option.

The 21 bottle I got looks a little different then this one, and so far very pleased with the performance. Fits perfectly where I placed it and it holds my whites on the top and reds on the bottom zone. Very quiet! unlike my refrigerator.
