Refrigrator Automatic Ice Maker Kit

Refrigrator Automatic Ice Maker KitIf you buy this part, make sure you give it 24 hours to work. I was expecting it to start working right away as soon as I installed it. I was very frustrated when I didn't see the dial start to spin when installed. I actually took the part out and sent it back thinking it was defective. Well it turns out the part has an internal thermostat that has to get cold to the right temperature in order to kick the icemaker on. They failed to leave out this very important bit of information. The common lay person would never know this. So don't send it back, give it 24hrs to work!

When installing this replacement icemaker be sure to use a small level. If the icemaker is not level the water will overflow and make a mess. Yes I made the mistake so you wont!! The on/off arm is smaller and shaped differently than shown in the picture so I used the old on/off arm. The kit came with several different wire harnesses(4)and two tubes. I didn't need to replace the water tube. All in all this was easy to install and the best price that I found. The manufacture name on the box is Supco (Sealed Unit Parts Co. Inc.). Part name on box is RIM500 Modular icemaker service kit. Replaces: Whirpool 4317943, 978556, Maytag and subzero.

DO NOT buy this item, as the unit you will recieve is not the same as the one pictured, or described. Unit came without shutoff arm, wiring harnesses, installation hardware or instrcutions. Called seller to inquire and was told amazon made a mistake and has the wrong picture displayed. According to the CSR, this has happened to several other people as well. But guess what, for a mere extra $20 they offered to sell me one that looks just like the picture. This is an absolute bait and switch, false advertising, etc...Seller also would not authorize a return or refund. Buy at your own risk! Part number that arrived is W10190965, mfr is FSP. Again, not what was listed in the description....

The product was exactly what we needed. There was one little part missing, but we had it on our original unit. It is perfect for a replacement and about half price of a parts store. The parts guy actually told me how to check for it online. Glad I did!

This is a very good replacement for the ice maker on my Whirlpool fridge. It's not an exact replacement, but it's definitely comparable. To me, "very good" means I didn't have to hack around to make it fit or function. The quality is just OK though.

Pros:

* Makes ice!

* Pretty simple to install

* Plastic ice tray instead of the plastic coated metal tray of the OEM. (Plastic coating peeled off and corroded the metal tray and made weird ice. It's a good thing I'm done making babies, because it shed some pretty funky stuff into the ice!)

* Good assortment of wiring harnesses and hardware included.

___________________

Cons:

* The instructions were pretty slim and didn't even really apply to this model.

* Not as well constructed as the original unit. Definitely more flimsy.

* Makes ice pretty slowly. Our old ice maker would fill the bin in a day--even under daily use. This one hasn't filled it yet!

* Drops the cubes straight down and doesn't hit the bin every time.

This refrigerator is awful. The ice and water in the door is impossible to use. We get water and ice all over the floor no matter how hard we try not too. Its a design flaw. Also the doors do not close properly, service says its just how they are made, not a defect. I hate this refrigerator.

Whirlpool Part Number 67005154: VALVE-INLT

Whirlpool Part Number 67005154: VALVE-INLTMy Maytag refrigerator started leaking water and I didn't know why. I called a repairman who opened the back and immediately told me it was the water inlet valve. He wanted to charge nearly $100 to replace it. It priced between $60 and $80 at local appliance repair stores. I found it on Amazon.com for under $30. I searched for an installation video online and found many. It was easy to replace and took only about 10 minutes. The leak was fixed and the ice maker and water dispenser are back in action.

I took the old part out and installed this one. It was easy and fast and fixed my leaky ice water drip.

Primo Water Floor Model Water Cooler

Primo Water Floor Model Water CoolerPrimo was very quick about shipping. I recieved my cooler in 4 days. The cooler is not heavy; easy to unpack. I was able to unload the cooler and set up quickly without any help. The cooler will fit in to any decor. It really has a nice sleek look. I was surprised to read the review of a noisy cooler. My cooler runs very quietly. Other than when we first started it up, we don't hear the compressor, no rattles. We have ours set up in the kitchen on a good thick vinyl floor. Perhaps there is enough cushion to keep any vibrations to a minimum. The safety button for the hot water is definitely a plus. Especially if you have small children. The hot water comes out nice & hot; makes a great & quick cup of tea or hot cocoa. I have to admit, I wish the cold water was colder. Using a good pH meter with temp guage, we are getting water temps of 58 60 degrees. Perhaps that is standard but I like my cold water colder. Still its nice to have a head start on a nice cold glass of lemonade. Dispense water, add lemonade mix or squeezed lemons...and throw in a few ice cubes. I didn't notice right a way, but a day after set up, I discovered my Primo cooler has a defect along the front right side. There is a slight gap where the right side does not line up & hook up with the front panel. The other/left side fits nice and snug to the front panel. I'm sure I could send it back, but I just don't have the time right now to pack & ship. Besides it works fine and I don't believe this causes any problems other than cosmetic appearance. Also, I enjoy Primo water and found it can be purchased at our K-mart at about $13 for water in the special primo jug.

Bekka

I have had this for a couple weeks now, it came really fast 2 or 3 days I think, the other primo cooler had really good reviews which is why I got this one, and liked that the controls were on top of the cooler bc they were more out of reach for toddlers, and it looks nice. Now the bad, it is noisy whenever the heater compressor is running (which is about every 10-20min it seems) there is a annoying rattling that I can hear in the next room for about a minute at a time, but it is quite distracting. Also the water has been getting a "rubber" like taste. I have cleaned it out well as they reccommended and it helped some, seems to be getting better over time. I have called Primo 1-800# and you get a real person right away who is willing to go over her checklist of solutions to these problems, they reccommended I unplug it overnight and call if the noise doesnt get better but that it is normal for the compressor to be heard.

Got this little unit for under 100 bucks at Lowe's and it works just fine. We don't use the hot water dispenser in any of the water coolers we have had, so no comment on the safety issue someone wrote up on. It is quiet, more than the new refrigerator we have, has a night light on it, and the water actually seems colder than the whirlpool model we previously had. Here are some things to consider when purchasing a water cooler. 1. place unit upright for at least 2hrs prior to turning it on. If you had this unit in a laying down position (which you will have to get it home), the oil in the compressor will not be where it needs to be for the unit to work right. You can actually damage the compressor with oil starvation by not doing this important step. 2. Look for simplicity. The more expensive unit we previously had developed problems in less than two years. It was a whirlpool that was just a tad bigger an heavier, the problem was that after any pwr interruptions it had to be manually turned back on by the touch pad press button. Now that doesn't seem to be a big deal for most people, but the water wont be cold unless you remember to turn it back on after a pwr outage, circuit breaker being turned off or even if the unit gets unplugged for some reason. Then for whatever reason it didn't want to respond to you pushing the on button on the pad press. Soooo after calling the customer service number on the unit, they told me to buy a new one. forget that noise. I ended up spending an hour or more with a volt meter and dis-assembled the unit to see if i could find the problem. after pulling wires off of the circuit board and re connecting them i pwred up the unit and got it to pwr up the compressor. I had to do this for two more years and finally that fix wouldn't work anymore. This Primo unit has 3 switches on the back, one for cold, one for hot and one for the night light. if a pwr outage occurs, when the pwr is restored, it kicks back on and cools or heats your water. Simplicity is best. 3. Top feeders are better than bottom feeders....this is more or less a true statement about anything in our world. The top feeder uses gravity to get every drop out of the water bottle, the in-cabinet types that you can store water jugs in the bottom shelf require a pump to "pump" water out and up. These pumps will fail long before the compressor does. I guarantee it. plus they don't remove all the water. 4. Bad taste from water..., if you are buying a primo sealed water container to place in your new water dispenser, the first thing you do is empty the container in the parking lot after spending 11-19 dollars on you new water bottle. The water that is used in these contains buffers for long term storage purposes and tastes like garbage. dump it out and refill from a culligan/primo water dispenser at Wal-mart or any other store that dispenses filtered water. The primo bottles will have a white plastic cap on the bottom of the bigger blue cap that allows you to turn it upside down without spilling it. Someone complained about not being able to keep water from spilling out when installing these, you simply have to remove the big water cap just before you refill (and the unit is empty of course), and shake out the smaller white plastic cap and pop it back on the bottom of the blue cap. The center probe on the water dispenser at home will pop this off when you place the water bottle on the top of the dispenser. Then drain out about 32 oz of water from your cold water side, and do the same with the hot water side, but wait for about an hour for it to cool and heat the water first. this will remove any residual tastes from the system. You only have to do this last step the very first time you use this unit. I think that covers it.

I'm so glad that I used primo for a couple weeks after I saw it sold fresh, pure water at walmart. Their 2 gallon jug fantastic plastic number 3 the most poisonous one!!! Good thing I used it to give my kid his helping dose of PVC and Phthalates.

It's a bonus. You get pure water with a little poison mixed in.

Panasonic SD-RD250 Bread Maker with Automatic Fruit & Nut Dispenser

Panasonic SD-RD250 Bread Maker with Automatic Fruit & Nut DispenserWe had a Panasonic for a little over 20 years and bought this one because the pan on the old one froze up. I didn't know at the time that I could replace the pan so we threw out the machine. BIG MISTAKE!

We baked only 100% whole wheat bread using the sandwich mode on the old machine and it turned out a perfect, soft and delicious bread. I contacted Panasonic after several failures with the new machine and they informed me that it will not do 100% whole wheat bread and does not have the sandwich mode anymore.

So...now we have a $200.00 dough maker that I use and I have to bake the bread in the oven in order to get it to rise properly and bake through. Every loaf I tried in the machine was heavy, wet and fell after rising. No amount of experimentation changed that. VERY DISSAPOINTING!!

Bottom line is if you are going to bake other breads it might be ok, I don't know. However if you prefer whole grains forget this machine.

Being somewhat big on whole wheat bread, it's disappointing to find out this machine can only handle 30% whole wheat whereas most other competitors have that capability to make 100% whole wheat including gluten free bread. What's really puzzling is the fact that Panasonic UK has 2 breadmakers that were released the past few months in UK to handle 100% whole wheat. Called Panasonic USA customer service about the lack of this 100% whole wheat feature and was told this SD-RD250 machine is several years old and likely a new model may be coming out soon to include the 100% whole wheat capability as well as other features. They said they have received quite a few requests to have this 100% whole wheat feature included. Of course they won't say exactly when the new model with the new added features will be available. Since we are into 100% whole wheat, we've decided to return this product and wait for the new model. The other negative I find is the dispenser is simply too small to hold enough (e.g. raisins or nuts) for a medium size loaf, let alone a large or extra large loaf. Probably fine for a small loaf but there's no setting for a small loaf. It would be nice if the machine would provide a warning beep to allow the adding of raisin, nut or whatever manually. At least that way, you can add as much as you want.

EDIT UPDATE: an XL loaf weighed 2 lbs 11.5 oz

I never thought that I would be so excited about an item but I truly was. I underestimated our technology because I didn't realize that you could now stick dry ingredients into a machine and a few hours later beautiful crusty soft bread pops out! WOW! Gone are the laborious & boring tasks of kneading, kneading, leaving to rise and eventually kneading again which would take away half of your afternoon. It just isn't great time management in our busy lives this day in age, to spend it preparing and baking a loaf of bread.

Hubby attempted his first loaf (ever!) the moment the box arrived. At first glance, the machine is on the large-ish side as I suspected it would be. You could leave it on a counter but if you are limited on space as we are it just wouldn't be feasible; unless you were truly making a loaf of bread a day.

There is an instructional guide with all the tidbits of info you may need on the machine's settings and problems that may occur with solutions. There are even a variety of recipes to get you started in the bread baking world. The machine's strong points are the fact that it will do all the work and provide you with a loaf of bread after a minimum couple of hours. I am very excited to try the pasta and pizza dough settings. As far as baking, I will leave that to my trusty oven. It is still a wonderfully feature packed machine that also has a fruit/nut dispenser.

We provided pictures of our first attempt at a loaf of Pepperoni and Provolone Cheese bread. The options selected were Bake Rapid, XL loaf & Dark Crust. The selected options took a total of 1 hour & 55 minutes. Preparation was 5 minutes including pressing the selected options mentioned above and the start button. Once the bread is done, the machine will beep 8 times and you are informed by the guide that it must be removed immediately and placed on a wire rack. We had to wait a bit after removing for our bread to cool down so that removal of the kneading tool would be easy. According to the directions, if your kneading tool is stuck in the bottom of your bread then you may need 20-30 more mLs' of water. We were a bit impatient so that is why we chose the Rapid Bake option lowering the total time to 1.55 opposed to 4 hrs. Next time we will attempt the longer cooking time and see what the difference in taste and quality shall be. The machine does vibrate a bit while it is kneading, but it isn't noisy in the least. At one point I was concerned because I got a hint of "burning motors" smell, but I suspect that it may be because it was the first time it was used.

Hubby's first loaf was DIVINE! We love bread in our household to the point of being able to polish off a whole loaf in one sitting. The bread was crusty on the outside and softy/fluffy in the center with little tidbits of spicy pepperoni and herbs sprinkled throughout. While it was baking it smelled very much like a pepperoni roll. Our dogs and kitten stood below the machine sniffing at the air... that is how much the aroma permeated our household. When it was finally removed and cooled we made turkey sandwiches and there are only 3 slices left today. It was that good!! The XL was a great size for our family of 5, but it would be overwhelming for a single person or small family. I am not sure how the bread stores because we don't have any left.

Options for baking bread:

Dough type: Basic or French

Baking speed: Bake or Bake Rapid

Size: Medium or XL

Crust: Light or Dark

Timer: When you want a loaf to be ready at a certain time up to 13 hours later.

Options for making Dough:

Dough Type: Basic, French or Pizza

Option: Dough

If you choose Pizza then you skip Dough type and go straight to start.

No timer because with these options(other than pizza) you must shape the finished dough and allow it to rise and then bake in oven.

Options for making Pasta:

Select: Pasta

Rest dough for 1 hr in the refrigerator before cutting.

No timer option

Option for Baking Cakes:

Select: Bake Only

Select: Baking Time

No timer option

Total baking time cannot exceed 90 minutes.

Highly recommend for bread lovers that would like to have control of what goes in their bread. Also recommended for families/individuals that like fresh bread daily. It is wonderful to be able to make a loaf and not have to go through all of the babysitting and effort that accompanies making fresh bread. True time saver with wonderful results.

INCLUDED IS A 1 year warranty... wish it was longer!

My research on the internet leads me to believe the Panasonic bread maker is the better, if not the best, machine... I really want one, but recently, I let Panasonic know my money may be going to the competition unless they start offering a North American version of the SD-257WXC:The SD-RD250 is good but can't deal with whole (100%) grains and is a lesser machine when compared to the SD-257WXC; I find it perplexing Panasonic would offer the better machine in Europe and Australia but not in North America????

Read the reviews on Panasonic's European machines, the SD-255 and the newer SD-257, and I think you'll agree we're getting the lesser machine.

Want Panasonic SD-RD250 Bread Maker with Automatic Fruit & Nut Dispenser Discount?

I've been making bread twice a week since I bought this bread maker six months ago. It's effortless compared to my previous bread maker. I bought this newer version of their popular bread maker, even though it had fewer reviews because it seemed to be just a newer versiondate and because I felt Panasonic probably tweaked their older model to improve the quality. Even though there weren't a lot of recipes that came with the bread maker, I've found that once I have made one type of bread successfully a few times, I could vary the basic recipe and still come out with quality loaves of bread.

With my machine, I found that I had to drop the amount of water by 3/4 of an ounce for a perfect loaf. I also altered the amount a yeast very slightly because I dropped the amount of salt in recipe (to decrease our salt intake in our diet). This is what I do to make sure I have a good loaf of bread:

Weigh, don't measure ingredients.

Use bulk white and wheat flour made for breadmakers...it seems to be fresher.

I melt my butter prior to measuring the amount.

I flour all dried fruits that I cut up to place in the dispenser so that the fruit doesn't clump up in the bread or stick to the dispenser lid.

Since I enjoy fruit/nut bread, I have increased the amount of dried fruit/nuts that I add for a loaf of bread. I can put up to 5 1/2ounces in a loaf without affecting the amount of rise in the loaf. Usually, I am only limited by the amount of space in the dispenser.

I always set an alarm to remind me to take the loaf out when it's done. Using the "light" bread setting, I often take the bread out five minutes early to get the lighter crust that I enjoy.

When baking a loaf, don't ever open the bread maker top to take a peak. The bread will be fine.

July 2012 Update

It's hard for me to even eat store-bought bread anymore because of the great loaves this machine makes. I am experimenting with various recipes with my machine. I have made various fruit breads, as well as walnut, sliced almond, peanut, and pumpkin seed bread. For fruit bread, try a raisin and dried pineapple. Walnut bread is wonderful. I just stick to the basic bread loaf (I use the whole wheat recipe which is 1/3 whole wheat flour but I've made a 50/50 blend as well). I also make an oat bread by adding 1 cup of quick oats and increasing the water content to 14 ounces. I tend to take my bread out about 5 minutes early for a light moist loaf. I don't like to use sugar so have found that using molasses creates a better loaf than honey. I wish that there was a more extensive recipe list for this machine but it's easy to experiment successfully just altering the basic recipes.

GE Compatible Refrigerator Water Filter for MWF, GWF, MWFA, GWFA, GWF06

GE Compatible Refrigerator Water Filter for MWF, GWF, MWFA, GWFA, GWF06I like to plan ahead. I purchased the product 2 or 3 months ago so I would have a replacement available when needed. So, in trying to save some money, I ordered this replacement filter for my refrigerator. I put it in yesterday and ran about 3 gallons of water through it. Unfortunately, the water thereafter tasted like it was a used cartridge. The water smelled and tasted foul. My brother-in-law happened to be visiting and I asked him to try it. He said also the water tasted much worse than water straight out of the tap. A few moments ago, I looked to see if I could return or replace it and unfortunately I can't. One thing I don't like is as soon as a product is delivered they look for a review which of course, since I didn't put it in, I couldn't write an honest review. Now I can and am doing so.

As with probably all manufacturers, any maintenance or repair parts are outrageously expensive from the manufacturer. It's nice to have third parties manufacture decent replacement parts for non-critical functions. I know, I may be alone in this, but a water filter is not a critical need for me.

We bought our fridge used and have owned it for 4yrs. No problems overall. Then the water progressively became slower and slower. I knew the filter should be changed every few months, but at $30 a pop it was not going to happen! So, it got to the point where it took forever to fill up a glass and finally decided it was time. Took a gamble and purchased the 3rd party filter. I unhooked the original (probably) filter and twisted in the new one. I probably wasn't fast enough or had enough pressure when installing the new one and got sprayed! Oh well. Chalk one up for silly stories.

Then I went to get a glass and try it out. The water pressure came with the fury of a thousand typhoons and again got sprayed. Alright, a little hyperbole, but I did get wet and I couldn't figure out what I could have done differently to avoid that situation. Maybe a rainsuit?? Again, not a big deal. Tried again and while there was stilll some very significant pressure, along with some funny color (water or filter contaminants I'm not sure...) it eventually cleared and had very quick fill rates. Sorry I didn't time fill rate pre/post installation of an 8oz glass for some hard objective data for the engineers out there. I'll work on that the next time.

As far as function, the water tastes, well like water (though I never really had a taste issue before). The speed is much quicker, but after a couple months time, it has slowed down a little. It's not annoyingly slow, but nonetheless, there is a difference. I've had no other leaks or problems and everything seems to be fine. The cartridge itself is unmarked which is fine by me. Never liked advertising much for other companies, but not many other people see the inside of my fridge.

Overall 4 stars. Would kind of prefer 3.5, but I probably had some user error in the whole process so I won't pass the blame yet. I will probably buy here again and if I have the same shower experience I may edit my review. It's a good price and I get clean water quickly.

GE WR72X239 Left Crisper Drawer Glide for Refrigerator

GE WR72X239 Left Crisper Drawer Glide for RefrigeratorI had to drill a hole into the panel of the refrigerator. It didn't bother me that much since I have the tools and the skills to do this. What if I didn't?

Just another part required to keep an 8 year old GE refrigerator working properly. The previous door glide wore out and cracked (as so many other parts have done on this GE refrigerator model GSS22KGMDWW). I've spent more on repairs than the cost of refrigerator at this point so I thought, just one more replacement part until I can replace this piece of junk. The drawer glide itself is fine and should hold up under normal use for awhile; I'm just not sure if the refregerator will last much longer.
