Maytag 8212652 PuriClean IV Refrigerator Water Filter

Maytag 8212652 PuriClean IV Refrigerator Water FilterI recently purchased the Puriclean IV at Home Depot.

I tested this water filter using a TDS meter which measures total dissolved solids in water.

Results:

Tap Water = 367 PPM (parts per million)

Puriclean IV = 370 PPM

As you can see, the Puriclean IV produced no difference in water quality based on my TDS meter.

This is a very simple filter that uses charcoal to reduce odor. Charcoal does not filter out harmful solids, they just pass right through the filter.

I purchased this water filter for my refrigerator and the product works as advertized and was delivered on time. No complaints on the item itself.

However Amazon fulfills the order via a 3rd party seller and in this case the seller uses my email address to send spam and advertizements. Very annoying. I would understand if my Amazon preferences permitted email marketing, but I had all those options turned off. If Amazon insists on allowing 3rd parties to see email addresses they should enforce a policy which prohibits the 3rd party vendor from using the information for any other purposes other than delivering the exact product which was ordered.

I don't find the water tastes all that great with this filter, but maybe it's because I am addicted to smart water.

We needed a new filter for our refrigerator, but found out it was no longer available. I looked on Amazon & sure enough they had the filter we needed. Easy to use, just turn & pull to get the old one out, & just insert the new one & give it a slight turn. What a difference a new filter makes, the water in the door comes out at a faster rate & the ice is much better in apperance & taste. This is a great filter.Easy to use, & it lasts longer than others I have had in the past.

MLB New York Yankees Portable Party Refrigerator

MLB New York Yankees Portable Party RefrigeratorDon't confuse this with the larger models, as I did. Should have checked the dimensions, thought it was to good a deal compared to others. Haven't used it yet, so don't know if it keeps the beer cold, but it will be a nice addition to the game room.

LG LFX31935ST

LG LFX31935STI've owned the LG LFX31935 for a little more than six months, and overall it has been great. It has a cavernous interior with very flexible storage options. It does a great job of keeping food cold/frozen, and it's very quiet. The material and workmanship is top notch, and it looks great. There are two things worth commenting on in more detail: the wine chiller and the ice maker.

WINE CHILLER

This unique feature is a big plus, and honestly a big selling point for my wife and I. We don't have a wine fridge, and it's nice to be able to chill a bottle of red before drinking it. This "blast chiller", as it's called, works well it chills a bottle of wine from room temperature to ~62F in 8 minutes. You just pop open the blast chiller door, slide the bottle in cork first and rest it in cradle, close the chiller and the fridge and then press the button on the front panel. Most of the time, the thing just starts to work the cradle gently swirls the bottle while the cold air is circulated through the chiller's chamber (it's a bit noisy while running, somewhere between a dishwasher and a stand mixer). Sometimes, however, the chiller refuses to start and affirms its obstinance with a red light next to the start button. According to the manual, this can happen when the fridge is not down to temp, which kind of makes sense. But the behavior seems more random than that it has done this a half dozen times at least, sometimes when I'm pretty sure nobody has been in the fridge for hours. In fact, it seems to happen whenever have guests over and are trying to show off our #$%*&@ wine chiller! Otherwise, though it's a very slick feature and one we use all the time (though it would NOT be a good idea to use on a bottle that should otherwise be decanted due to sediment).

ICE MAKER

The ice maker on this unit is completely contained in the left-hand door. This leaves the main compartment wide open and unobstructed by the ice maker, which is great. The ice maker itself if rather small, as is the bin it's capacity is probably less than half that of my old side-by-side Kenmore 25 cu ft with the ice maker in the freezer. But the real problem is the dispenser. When you push a glass against the dispenser plate, an electric motor lowers a trap door in the dispenser chute and then the dispenser mechanism starts pushing ice down the chute. It works great until one of two inevitable things happen: ice cubes jam up in the chute (the jam can be freed by poking a finger up the ice chute effective, but somehow feels wrong), or ice delivery stops because the ice in the bin is frozen together (which requires opening the left door of the fridge, opening the ice maker door, and breaking up the frozen ice mass in the bin or discarding it altogether). This is not an occasional problem, it happens almost always the first time it is used in the day.

I've had the factory-authorized service company out several times. The last time, they replaced the entire ice maker assembly (and the control panel as well, for some reason). No joy. This problem is not going away until some aspect of the current system is redesigned: either the ice chute is not wide enough, the chute door doesn't open far enough, the ice cubes are the wrong shape, the ice doesn't stay cold enough, or maybe even a combination of several things.

In all, I'd say the positives significantly outweigh the negatives, but on a fridge that costs three times what my previous one did, I guess I expected more. I'm still hoping that LG will take an interest in the ice maker problem and provide a field upgrade, but I'm not holding my breath.

Samsung RS265TDRS 26 Cu. Ft. Stainless Steel Side-By-Side Refrigerator - Energy Star</nos

Samsung RS265TDRS 26 Cu. Ft. Stainless Steel Side-By-Side Refrigerator - Energy Star
  • Twin Cooling Keeps Food Fresher
  • ENERGY STAR Compliant
  • External Digital Display To Easily Adjust Controls
  • Dimensions (WHD): 69 7/8" X 35 3/4" X 33 15/16"

I have owned this refrigerator for nearly a year. It is very quiet and it has lots of freezer storage space. However it has one problem that drives me up the wall. The ice dispenser plugs up about every three weeks and I have to take the ice bucket out and clean out the ice clog in the bucket and the dispenser chute with warm water.

Here is the scenario that always occurs. I have the freezer temperature set at -2DEGF. Mostly I leave the dispenser switch on "water". I switch it to "cubes" or "crush" when I want ice. After a several days I start getting a combination of crushed ice and ice cubes when I ask for cubes. After several more days I can only get crushed ice even though I have the setting on "cubes". After several more days, It just grinds away with nothing coming out.

Here is what I have to do to get Ice cubes. I open the freezer door and remove the ice bucket. Then I dump the ice from the bucket. I then run warm water through the extraction chamber to clean out the ice clog. The cubes/crushed ice has formed a clog. Then I have to pour warm water though the dispenser chute in the door. Yes, it is usually partially clogged too but the main clog is always in the ice bucket. After cleaning out the clogs, I put the ice bucket back in the freezer door and I am good to go for two or three weeks.

This problem started as soon as I got the refrigerator. I called Samsung and they sent me a new ice bucket. I thought my problem was solved. But it made no difference. The same problem occurred. I swapped the ice buckets a couple of times just to be sure. The problem was the same for both ice buckets.

I lived with the problem for a couple more months before I called Samsung and asked them to send a repairman. The repairman came a couple of days later. It was plugged when he got there. He cleaned it out just as I had. He said this was just something I had to live with and I should switch the setting to "cubes" after each time I asked for crushed ice and dump a few ice cubes. It seems likes the crushed ice is partially melting and then refreezing.

Incidentally, I wrote a version of this review about four months ago and sent it to Amazon. I got an email from Amazon saying someone read it and it was helpful. That review has mysteriously disappeared so I'm writing it again. I think the problem I am having is a design flaw. Samsung should modify the Ice Bucket. I bought this refrigerator based on the Consumer Reports review and rating. They probably only tested it for several days.

Fridge works great, but I found out that you can turn it off with your belly (Im 190 @ 6 feet) when reaching for things you might place on top of the fridge.

The buttons on the ice/water dispenser can turn your condenser off, when pressed at the same time, setting your temps to 0Fc. When that happens your fridge doesn't work and stops producing cold.

Lucky I noticed this before all my food went bad. I called the 800 service number and it was fast and told me the buttons to press to fix this. My temps went up 10 degrees before I fixed it since there is no mention of this in the product literature.

I cant say whether this fridge is worth buying in the long run but having owned it now for a couple of months I think its a very nice fridge with great features for the money. Got cold very fast when first plugged in (a few hours only) and has so far been problem free.

I have read complaints of the led lighting not being bright enough but I think its just fine. Plenty of room for storage, it has solved all the problems I had with my old fridge.

Very happy with the purchase.

Update: a few months in only and the ice maker is now being temperamental about dispensing crushed ice. Second samsung product I have had to have service on so soon after purchase, not good...

2nd update: turns out the problem was trivial, ice caught in the crusher froze, clearing it fixed the problem (but not before a repairman came out to point this out). So upping my review back to 5. Fridge still great!

Want

I've had the fridge for over 7 months, replacing a 12 year old Kenmore. The first Samsung delivered was a lemon (ice maker and condenser malfunction). Returned.

So, let's start from the top down.

1. The exterior has good, clean lines, with hinges hidden behind the door frame.

2. Handles are secure and doors are easily opened and closed.

3. The ice and water functions are consolidated. You must select ice or water and depress a lever dispense. This is one of the major design flaws of this refrigerator: the ice frequently comes out all at once, often spilling over to the floor below; ice is of poor quality, often coming out with chips, and melts rapidly; water is not adequately cooled-no cooler than getting from sink faucet. I much prefer Kenmore's dual dispenser, ice size and quality, and water temperature.

4. Icemaker is SLOW. We have to buy or make additional ice even for small gatherings and, like many brands, the icemaker is noisy. However, having it on the door vs. mounted in the freezer compartment has given us a little more storage space.

5. Temperature distribution is even throughout and items to the rear do not freeze up as with our old Kenmore.

6. A common complaint is there is limited shelf adjustability. However some of the shelves are retractable for easier access.

7. Energy savings have been better than our old Kenmore, but unremarkable.

8. The compressor is fairly quiet.

9. My experience with Samsung customer service was poor.

Overall, while I'm disappointed in the performance of the icemaker, water, and shelf flexibility, the unit has performed acceptably, yet with no notable qualities.

This refrigerator looks really cool, has all sorts of sensors and other electronics, and that may be where the trouble lies. From the beginning, was not happy with the lukewarm water from dispenser (manual says if you don't like it, add ice, no kidding). At 11 months the refrigerator temp rose to 56 degrees and hung there. Electrician replaced computer panel (this refrigerator has a computer), and that solved the problem for one more month. Same thing happened, and this time we learned that the welding on the freon tank was bad, so there was a slow leak that could not be repaired. The repairman said this is a classic issue with many Samsung refrigerators these days. Well, its been nearly two weeks of hanging on customer support lines at Samsung, but we finally have a certificate to replace the refrigerator (the freon unit, thankfully, carries a 5-year warranty). Will not ever buy a Samsung product of any kind again, but then, I'm cranky.

Whirlpool 2188808 Inlet Valve for Refrigerator

Whirlpool 2188808 Inlet Valve for RefrigeratorGot what I asked for and nothing less. My refrigerator is making ice again. Easy to install, how to video can be on YouTube.

I knew something needed to be done when our refrigerator started leaking on the floor everytime the ice maker refilled. A few google searches led us to the culprit, the double solenoid water valve which diverts water as needed to the water dispenser and icemaker. Apparently, this valve never lasts the life of your fridge. Though it looks intimidating, it was a quick fix. Even though I have a very handy husband (who had it switched out in less than 8 minutes), I'm sure I could have done it myself in less than 20. The price on amazon can't be beat, with sears and whirlpool charging $70+. Water and icemaker working perfectly now, no leaks!

Wine Enthusiast EuroCave SoWine Home Wine Bar

Wine Enthusiast EuroCave SoWine Home Wine Bar
  • Preserve wine for 10 days
  • Chill unopened wine
  • Holds 2 bottles
  • No stoppers, pumps or gases required
  • Silent Cooling Technology

I carefully researched the product prior to purchase and was concerned about some of the negative reviews that I read. However, the ability to store AND preserve a couple of open bottles was all too tempting to pass up! I was well aware about the "condensation" issues many reviewers complained about. I was NOT prepared for problems a mere 5 months after purchasing the system.

It started with the power cord and charger malfunctioning. There is no means by which to contact Eurocave directly. There is no phone number on their web site. I was not able to get assisstance through the vendor I bought the product from since they are not a distributor. I ended up calling the Wineenthusiast for help. They were wonderful and fixed the issued by selling me a new charger and power cord.

Now the indicator light on the control panel is flashing red continually and the oxygen vacuum extraction system no longer works. The Wineenthusiast has no solution except for buying another one to replace mine. Another $400 some dollars for a potentially malfunctioning system??? I am still in shock that there is no recourse to address the problem. I DO NOT recommend this product, nor the vendor as they have non-existent customer service.

I bought this item for my husband for Christmas 2008. It works great and extends the life of wine enabling you to have a glass of white or red or preserve two reds. The "malfunctioning" of the air seal mentioned is not really a malfunction if you push one of the tops down. It will continue to try to suck the air out of a bottle that's not there. Also, you need to remove the foil at the top of the bottle so it can seal properly. I'm surprised that one customer had a hard time with Wine Enthusiast. I had some questions for them regarding this unit and they were very helpful. Very satisfied with this product.

Bought this for my husband for Christmas and loved it for 10 days until it malfunctioned. Thus far I have been unsuccessful in my attempts to reach Wine Enthusiast. I have been left on hold indefinitely and no one has responded to my e-mail. Customer support has been more disappointing than the actual wine bar itself. Still stuck with a broken expensive product.

Bottom line Don't buy this!

You can imagine my excitement the day I opened my EuroCave SoWine wine preserver. I could now safely store open bottles of both red and white wine in an attractive, boastful mechanical marvel. The gift was for Christmas 2009 and showed a manufacturing date of 9/2008. Coming from a small wine shop, I guess that they did not sell a lot of these.

I plugged the unit in per the instructions, and immediately I heard a loud clattering noise and the indicator lights began flashing in error. I understand how products sometimes are defective, especially when they are imported from faraway locations as France.

It went back to the wine shop in January 2010. Of course they did not have a replacement on hand, but ordered one for me. The new one arrived in March 2010, again with a manufacturing date of 9/2008. They must have made a lot of these back then.

It worked great! My white wines were chilled to perfection, the reds kept at room temperature. Three months later the indicator lights started flashing in error again, the vacuum pump refused to turn off and the chiller stopped working.

I went back to the wine shop in June 2010 for another replacement. This time it took 4 months for the new one to arrive. As I unpacked it, I noticed the manufacturing date again 9/2008!! This one seemed to do the trick, but only lasted 3 months. The left hand indicator light stays on the white wine setting, the left on the red wine setting. They both flashed and could not be changed. It didn't matter as the cooler and warmer didn't work anyway. The pump continued to run and the sound of the machine was annoying.

When I returned to the wine shop, they were out of business. I tried contacting the manufacturer in France without success. There are no service centers in the United States. The Wine Enthusiast company (The name appearing on the box) are only retailers and offered me a discount on a new one.

I unplugged this piece of crap and now store red wine in it as it does keep it at room temperature so does my kitchen counter for that matter.

My advice: If you are thinking about buying this, you would be better purchasing a $334.78 bottle of fine wine, knowing in advance that you will be pissing your money away the next morning.

This product is great until it stops working. Mine has been repaired twice and still does not work properly. It is evidently a very delicate product that does not stand heavy use. Better buy a regular wine fridge and a manual pump..

Primo Water Floor Model Water Cooler

Primo Water Floor Model Water CoolerPrimo was very quick about shipping. I recieved my cooler in 4 days. The cooler is not heavy; easy to unpack. I was able to unload the cooler and set up quickly without any help. The cooler will fit in to any decor. It really has a nice sleek look. I was surprised to read the review of a noisy cooler. My cooler runs very quietly. Other than when we first started it up, we don't hear the compressor, no rattles. We have ours set up in the kitchen on a good thick vinyl floor. Perhaps there is enough cushion to keep any vibrations to a minimum. The safety button for the hot water is definitely a plus. Especially if you have small children. The hot water comes out nice & hot; makes a great & quick cup of tea or hot cocoa. I have to admit, I wish the cold water was colder. Using a good pH meter with temp guage, we are getting water temps of 58 60 degrees. Perhaps that is standard but I like my cold water colder. Still its nice to have a head start on a nice cold glass of lemonade. Dispense water, add lemonade mix or squeezed lemons...and throw in a few ice cubes. I didn't notice right a way, but a day after set up, I discovered my Primo cooler has a defect along the front right side. There is a slight gap where the right side does not line up & hook up with the front panel. The other/left side fits nice and snug to the front panel. I'm sure I could send it back, but I just don't have the time right now to pack & ship. Besides it works fine and I don't believe this causes any problems other than cosmetic appearance. Also, I enjoy Primo water and found it can be purchased at our K-mart at about $13 for water in the special primo jug.

Bekka

I have had this for a couple weeks now, it came really fast 2 or 3 days I think, the other primo cooler had really good reviews which is why I got this one, and liked that the controls were on top of the cooler bc they were more out of reach for toddlers, and it looks nice. Now the bad, it is noisy whenever the heater compressor is running (which is about every 10-20min it seems) there is a annoying rattling that I can hear in the next room for about a minute at a time, but it is quite distracting. Also the water has been getting a "rubber" like taste. I have cleaned it out well as they reccommended and it helped some, seems to be getting better over time. I have called Primo 1-800# and you get a real person right away who is willing to go over her checklist of solutions to these problems, they reccommended I unplug it overnight and call if the noise doesnt get better but that it is normal for the compressor to be heard.

Buy Primo Water Floor Model Water Cooler Now

Got this little unit for under 100 bucks at Lowe's and it works just fine. We don't use the hot water dispenser in any of the water coolers we have had, so no comment on the safety issue someone wrote up on. It is quiet, more than the new refrigerator we have, has a night light on it, and the water actually seems colder than the whirlpool model we previously had. Here are some things to consider when purchasing a water cooler. 1. place unit upright for at least 2hrs prior to turning it on. If you had this unit in a laying down position (which you will have to get it home), the oil in the compressor will not be where it needs to be for the unit to work right. You can actually damage the compressor with oil starvation by not doing this important step. 2. Look for simplicity. The more expensive unit we previously had developed problems in less than two years. It was a whirlpool that was just a tad bigger an heavier, the problem was that after any pwr interruptions it had to be manually turned back on by the touch pad press button. Now that doesn't seem to be a big deal for most people, but the water wont be cold unless you remember to turn it back on after a pwr outage, circuit breaker being turned off or even if the unit gets unplugged for some reason. Then for whatever reason it didn't want to respond to you pushing the on button on the pad press. Soooo after calling the customer service number on the unit, they told me to buy a new one. forget that noise. I ended up spending an hour or more with a volt meter and dis-assembled the unit to see if i could find the problem. after pulling wires off of the circuit board and re connecting them i pwred up the unit and got it to pwr up the compressor. I had to do this for two more years and finally that fix wouldn't work anymore. This Primo unit has 3 switches on the back, one for cold, one for hot and one for the night light. if a pwr outage occurs, when the pwr is restored, it kicks back on and cools or heats your water. Simplicity is best. 3. Top feeders are better than bottom feeders....this is more or less a true statement about anything in our world. The top feeder uses gravity to get every drop out of the water bottle, the in-cabinet types that you can store water jugs in the bottom shelf require a pump to "pump" water out and up. These pumps will fail long before the compressor does. I guarantee it. plus they don't remove all the water. 4. Bad taste from water..., if you are buying a primo sealed water container to place in your new water dispenser, the first thing you do is empty the container in the parking lot after spending 11-19 dollars on you new water bottle. The water that is used in these contains buffers for long term storage purposes and tastes like garbage. dump it out and refill from a culligan/primo water dispenser at Wal-mart or any other store that dispenses filtered water. The primo bottles will have a white plastic cap on the bottom of the bigger blue cap that allows you to turn it upside down without spilling it. Someone complained about not being able to keep water from spilling out when installing these, you simply have to remove the big water cap just before you refill (and the unit is empty of course), and shake out the smaller white plastic cap and pop it back on the bottom of the blue cap. The center probe on the water dispenser at home will pop this off when you place the water bottle on the top of the dispenser. Then drain out about 32 oz of water from your cold water side, and do the same with the hot water side, but wait for about an hour for it to cool and heat the water first. this will remove any residual tastes from the system. You only have to do this last step the very first time you use this unit. I think that covers it.

I'm so glad that I used primo for a couple weeks after I saw it sold fresh, pure water at walmart. Their 2 gallon jug fantastic plastic number 3 the most poisonous one!!! Good thing I used it to give my kid his helping dose of PVC and Phthalates.

It's a bonus. You get pure water with a little poison mixed in.

Thanks, Primo, you assshats.

Amana Freezer Door Gasket 12550116Q

Amana Freezer Door Gasket 12550116Q
  • GASKET-FZ WAS 8170646 0808TC
  • Works with the following models: Maytag BX21V1C, Maytag BX21V1W, Whirlpool GB2SHKXKT

Fit perfect and saved a bunch of money by installing it myself.

Put this item in some pretty hot water for a bit before installing. Had a hair dryer handy to rewarm it during install and for working out the creases and malformations after install.

I found some instructions on line that stated to removed the food from the door (leaving door attached to fridge) and just loosen all the factory screws about half way. Slide the old gasket out, slide the new one in. Worked like a champ. Tightened the screws back down, heated up some areas with the hair dryer, close the door, let it sit a bit to let the cool temperature "set" the gasket, rinse and repeat for problem areas.

THis was just as advertised but would have been nice with some instructions to help it seal better. I got it to seal but had to go on the internet to find out how.

Other than that this was fine.

It takes a bit of work and some technical savvy to install any refrigerator door seal. This seal was a perfect match for the original seal. You will need a 1/4 inch socket to remove the mounting screws. (hint-use an electric drill or screw driver and bit to speed the process) For all of you DIY's out there, you will save big when replacing this yourself.

An exact match for our old worn out gasket. it was fairly easy to install with only one tool (a ratchet and socket). Replacement took about one hour once begun. No problems.

Price was very good and below other sources. Item was well packaged. Instructions included with unit. Very important to warm gasket up first. Youtube videos helped.
