This is the worst refrigerator I've ever purchased -and it's all because of the icemaker. It's been repaired 7 times in the last 2 years thanks to having purchased an extended warranty. Predictably every 6 months, the icemaker stops functioning. There's a piece that jams. The repairmen are at a loss. I give up -this weekend, I'm headed to my appliance shop and buying something different. Don't waste your money on this piece of junk.
This model is similar to one we purchased two years ago. We had problems with water leaking from the door from the start, but an independant repairman was able to fix that with teflon tape. Maytag told us to just flush the system again and again. Now the fridge runs, but does not cool. The repairman says it will be $700 to fix, but that no Maytag is worth that. He says it will be nothing but trouble and we're better off buying a Kitchenaide and accepting our losses. Over 2000 down the tubes! But at least were free of the repair bills.
We purchased a Maytag refrigerator in July of 2012. It quit working in October. Maytag repairman did not have the replacement compressor that was needed. Home Depot brought us another refrigerator 10 days later. That refrigerator worked until the beginning of May 2013 (7 months later). Home Depot brought us another refrigerator 7 days later. We contacted Maytag after we received the new refrigerator and they were not willing to send us any compensation for aggravation or loss of food. Their customer service to say the least is non-responsive. We will never buy another Maytag refrigerator and we tell everyone we know not buy a Maytag refrigerator. Maytag had to know these refrigerators were defective and they should have recalled them. Home Depot Appliance manager told us there were multiple customers who had issues with these refrigerators.
There are many manufactures of appliances and our advice would be not to buy maytag!
Other than the size of the ice maker on the interior, this is a wonderful fridge! Quiet, plenty of interior adjustment, the freezer has remarkable space. Works well for a family of 4, and we do alot of cooking! I did find the beverage chiller took up space, but ordered two shelves for 10 bucks and have twice the door space! Love it!
Have had mine for a year without any problems. Is quiet, convenient, and everything I had hoped for! The water filter light just came on; much less frequent than my old fridge.
When I discovered that the twenty-plus year old Maytag I use for soda and excess cold storage wasn't cooling, my first thought was that I would have to buy a new refrigerator for that purpose. But being obstinate, I decided to see what I could do to fix it before giving up. Sure enough, I found that the defrost coil in the unit had failed, causing it to freeze up. This part was replaced by a repairman 12 years ago, at a total cost of $250. I scoured the web, and found this part for $15. It took me 20 minutes to replace the part, and the refrigerator is as good as new! The part was a perfect replacement, and saved me hundreds of dollars. Thank you for keeping this parts available for older appliances; we truly do appreciate it!
Got my defrost heaters in a very short time which is good considering I had to find a temporary place for my food until repairs could be made. Put them in ....so far so good. I'm pleased

When I heard the dreaded word that our refrigerator was getting warmer I thought first of the defrost timer which in my experience is prone to failure. Unlike the old days this one is mounted in the refrigerator next to the light rather than the usual spot under the refrigerator where it is exposed to heat and dust. It turned out the timer was OK and the defrost heaters were defective. Since I saved at least $35.00 buying this from Amazon I'm glad to have it as a spare. I will probably need it eventually. I installed the new one and kept the original as a spare. It's working fine. Easy do-it-yourself project. Takes about 5 minutes and saves big bucks over a service call. All you need is a Phillips screw driver. If you have never done it before you should probably unplug the refrigerator while you change the timer.
A great way to keep the fridge working at optimum efficiency. Many people never realize that the fins of the heat exchanger can get insulated by dust and lint so they go on letting their system run 2-3x more than necessary. This cleaning wand works great on my fridge and deep freeze to keep them running as little as possible.
Though this brush worked on my seventeen year old Whirlpool refrigerator, because of a design change to the coils, it's useless on the Whirlpool I recently bought.
The coils on the new refrigerator are placed in a way that it's impossible for the brush or any brush to get past and clean the rows of coils behind the first row.
Odd that Whirlpool would market a brush that won't clean their newer refrigerators.
Brush isn't flexible enough to do any good. Just a long stiff wire brush. Can't clean the dryer or the fridge. Haven't figured out what to do with it yet.
I found this really difficult to use; it's just too large to use and do any good. It fits in the filter area, but I can't get into the areas where the build up is, even with the smaller end brush. Just will not do what I need it to do, that is, really clean out the lint left behind.
Replaced my burnt-out defrost heater. Product arrived in the original GE box. Installed easily, works as it is supposed to. This unit has the defrost switch and harness attached, so there is literally no fiddling around with splices or such, just unplug the old one and plug this in. Whole repair cost less than 1/3 what it did to have a repairman do it the last time.
There seems to be some confusion in general about which heater you get. My unit originally had a single tube defroster, which GE has deprecated in favor of a 2-tube unit that fits in its place. I actually thought I was getting the 2-tube, but instead got the original 1-tube. Easier for me, but the 2-tube might last longer. GE supposedly changed units so the energy density in the tubes would be lower, for longer life.
Freezer would frost up, completely, every couple weeks... finally diagnosed to the heater sure enough the old one was burnt out and this replacement fixed everything up. Thanks, Amazon, for having in stock and fast shipping.
we had a repairman look at the fridge an he told us it would be $330.00 to fix it, that the defrost heater was out. We looked at the fridge an saw that we could put the part on ourselves so we checked around for it an amazon had the best prices. We order an recieved the part in about four days an was saved a wopping $295.00 Will recomend Amozon to all my friends was 100% satisfied. Thanx Amazon!
The product was shipped quickly, as described, at about half the cost of the OEM part from Sears (Kenmore). The part has been installed, Fridge is like new.......
The heater harness arrived as scheduled and was the part that I needed to fix my refrigerator/freezer. I installed it about 1 month ago and it is still working. If it works for several years, I would rate it 5 stars, but since it has only been 1 month, the "jury is still out", so to say, so I rated it 3 stars. Ultimately, time will tell what the rating should be.

The filter does not stay in place...keeps popping out...seller recommends taking it up the the manufacturer...right...i think i'm screwed...not an item to buy on line.
I did not receive the product was displayed in the site. I received a filter that I can buy anywhere, and it is slightly different than the one I picked up in the site. The differences are: two smaller fully rounded openings in the attaching side, besides the two rounded connections to the hoses should be present in the correct one. The other main difference is the color of the filter. The one I received was totally white, whereas the one I picked up in the site is transparent and the filter element visible inside is black color.
I'm very disappointed that I did not receive what I selected on line, I simply received the same filter I have found in all shops over here and does not fit in the refrigerator!!!
Way too much money for a filter which claims to last for about 6 months but I rarely get more than 4 out of it, I wish the manufacturer was just honest and dropped the price, I'm done with this, the fridge is garbage, I had to replace the computer's board twice and the filters are rubbish as well, Frigidaire never again!
This filter keeps popping back out and the water leaks all inside the fridge. NEVER had this problem with the Pure Source 2 that we purchase at Lowe's. Appliance Care Store states that we need to contact the makers of our fridge that it needs to make a change for this filter to fit! Fool me once, shame on YOU!!!!
We have a Frigidaire refrigerator and we have bought many of these filters as we have had it for seven years. It is easy to remove and easy to install.

I have owned this refrigerator for nearly a year. It is very quiet and it has lots of freezer storage space. However it has one problem that drives me up the wall. The ice dispenser plugs up about every three weeks and I have to take the ice bucket out and clean out the ice clog in the bucket and the dispenser chute with warm water.
Here is the scenario that always occurs. I have the freezer temperature set at -2DEGF. Mostly I leave the dispenser switch on "water". I switch it to "cubes" or "crush" when I want ice. After a several days I start getting a combination of crushed ice and ice cubes when I ask for cubes. After several more days I can only get crushed ice even though I have the setting on "cubes". After several more days, It just grinds away with nothing coming out.
Here is what I have to do to get Ice cubes. I open the freezer door and remove the ice bucket. Then I dump the ice from the bucket. I then run warm water through the extraction chamber to clean out the ice clog. The cubes/crushed ice has formed a clog. Then I have to pour warm water though the dispenser chute in the door. Yes, it is usually partially clogged too but the main clog is always in the ice bucket. After cleaning out the clogs, I put the ice bucket back in the freezer door and I am good to go for two or three weeks.
This problem started as soon as I got the refrigerator. I called Samsung and they sent me a new ice bucket. I thought my problem was solved. But it made no difference. The same problem occurred. I swapped the ice buckets a couple of times just to be sure. The problem was the same for both ice buckets.
I lived with the problem for a couple more months before I called Samsung and asked them to send a repairman. The repairman came a couple of days later. It was plugged when he got there. He cleaned it out just as I had. He said this was just something I had to live with and I should switch the setting to "cubes" after each time I asked for crushed ice and dump a few ice cubes. It seems likes the crushed ice is partially melting and then refreezing.
Incidentally, I wrote a version of this review about four months ago and sent it to Amazon. I got an email from Amazon saying someone read it and it was helpful. That review has mysteriously disappeared so I'm writing it again. I think the problem I am having is a design flaw. Samsung should modify the Ice Bucket. I bought this refrigerator based on the Consumer Reports review and rating.They probably only tested it for several days.
Fridge works great, but I found out that you can turn it off with your belly (Im 190 @ 6 feet) when reaching for things you might place on top of the fridge.
The buttons on the ice/water dispenser can turn your condenser off, when pressed at the same time, setting your temps to 0Fc. When that happens your fridge doesn't work and stops producing cold.
Lucky I noticed this before all my food went bad. I called the 800 service number and it was fast and told me the buttons to press to fix this. My temps went up 10 degrees before I fixed it since there is no mention of this in the product literature.
I cant say whether this fridge is worth buying in the long run but having owned it now for a couple of months I think its a very nice fridge with great features for the money. Got cold very fast when first plugged in (a few hours only) and has so far been problem free.
I have read complaints of the led lighting not being bright enough but I think its just fine. Plenty of room for storage, it has solved all the problems I had with my old fridge.
Very happy with the purchase.
Update: a few months in only and the ice maker is now being temperamental about dispensing crushed ice. Second samsung product I have had to have service on so soon after purchase, not good...
2nd update: turns out the problem was trivial, ice caught in the crusher froze, clearing it fixed the problem (but not before a repairman came out to point this out). So upping my review back to 5. Fridge still great!
I've had the fridge for over 7 months, replacing a 12 year old Kenmore. The first Samsung delivered was a lemon (ice maker and condenser malfunction). Returned.
So, let's start from the top down.
1. The exterior has good, clean lines, with hinges hidden behind the door frame.
2. Handles are secure and doors are easily opened and closed.
3. The ice and water functions are consolidated. You must select ice or water and depress a lever dispense. This is one of the major design flaws of this refrigerator: the ice frequently comes out all at once, often spilling over to the floor below; ice is of poor quality, often coming out with chips, and melts rapidly; water is not adequately cooled-no cooler than getting from sink faucet. I much prefer Kenmore's dual dispenser,ice size and quality, and water temperature.
4. Icemaker is SLOW. We have to buy or make additional ice even for small gatherings and, like many brands, the icemaker is noisy. However, having it on the door vs. mounted in the freezer compartment has given us a little more storage space.
5. Temperature distribution is even throughout and items to the rear do not freeze up as with our old Kenmore.
6. A common complaint is there is limited shelf adjustability. However some of the shelves are retractable for easier access.
7. Energy savings have been better than our old Kenmore, but unremarkable.
8. The compressor is fairly quiet.
9. My experience with Samsung customer service was poor.
Overall, while I'm disappointed in the performance of the icemaker, water, and shelf flexibility, the unit has performed acceptably, yet with no notable qualities.

This refrigerator looks really cool, has all sorts of sensors and other electronics, and that may be where the trouble lies. From the beginning, was not happy with the lukewarm water from dispenser (manual says if you don't like it, add ice, no kidding). At 11 months the refrigerator temp rose to 56 degrees and hung there. Electrician replaced computer panel (this refrigerator has a computer), and that solved the problem for one more month. Same thing happened, and this time we learned that the welding on the freon tank was bad, so there was a slow leak that could not be repaired. The repairman said this is a classic issue with many Samsung refrigerators these days. Well, its been nearly two weeks of hanging on customer support lines at Samsung, but we finally have a certificate to replace the refrigerator (the freon unit, thankfully, carries a 5-year warranty). Will not ever buy a Samsung product of any kind again, but then, I'm cranky.
This refrigerator is very quiet and very energy efficient. The stainless steel front looks very modern and elegant with simple handles. We previously had a Electrolux refrigerator that was twice as loud as this one...granted it was also almost 10 years old. The Whirlpool barely makes a whisper, even when the motor kicks on (which is infrequent). The only drawback on this fridge is that there are a few drawers and shelves that do not provide the best access or storage capacity. It is more of a minor inconvenience, and I think most fridges have this to some extent somewhere. I just think this fridge has the issue in a few more places than most, so I have to take away a star. Thankfully, there is a lot of storage space so you can usually get by if you carefully manage where you put stuff...but I'd rather not have to do that. Not a dealbreaker though...the lack of noise and efficiency more than make up for it with me.
This refrigerator is awful. I bought mine less than two years ago. After about a year, we noticed that it was leaking water from the bottom of the freezer out onto our new wood floors. Basically, had to remove ice from the pan inside the bottom of the freezer once every 3-4 days, otherwise water was all over our floors. I don't know it was the defrost water or icemaker. In any case, decided to live with it instead of calling whlpool (past warranty by a few weeks) or a repairman. Bad decision, a few days ago the water had backed in the freezer and the refrig was not cooling. ohhh, also the freezer light switch or bulb broke after a year. I've seen other reviews that say the same thing about similar style whirpool refrigerators.
Please, please for all that is good and right in this country....do not buy this product. Vote your dollars to another brand or product. Whirlpool must mnot be allowed to make a profit on this piece of s-h-i.... Thank you, good night!
After only 2 1/2 years of use, the control panel died and had to be replaced, at a cost of $375 (including time and labor). The effect was that the condensor never shut off, the freezer iced up and blocked the flow of cold air to the refrigerator. The vegetable and fruit draws can only be pulled a few inches open before they fall out. There is a large, completely empty space in the left-hand draw that could have been put to better use. See the many negative reviews for the similar GX5SHDXV model.

As Ive read most of your reviews, you fail to mention CLEANING the fan (AS INSTRUCTIONS SAY TO DO )
After 6 months I had the same problem till I read the instructions and it said to clean the fan every 4-6 months.. If the fan is clogged, it wont work..
Trust me.. This is my 3rd year with this product.. Dont throw it away until youve tried that first.
Wish we had read the reviews FIRST. As others have written, in less than one year, it quit cooling properly sometimes not cooling at all. I contacted the company to find out how to get it repaired or replaced; will cost more to package and ship than we paid for it... so essentially, NO WARRANTY. We will be shopping for a more reliable brand!
My original review for this wine cooler was right in line with others who stated that it slowly stopped cooling anywhere from six months to a year and was essentially a piece of junk. The review by 7274 on Dec 9, 2010, sheds some light on the problem, namely that the filter at the back of the unit requires periodic cleaning for the unit to work properly. My cooler was still sitting where I left it since I still found it useful for storing wine. I took a look in back and sure enough the filter was caked with dust. I removed it (it pops right out), cleaned it, reinstalled it, then plugged it in to see what would happen. The unit started cooling again, and after 24 hours is holding its temperature setting of 55 degrees.
While I am pleased that it isn't really broken, this strikes me as a troubling design flaw, but I don't expect much from Emerson so it doesn't surprise me. In any case, as the aforementioned reviewer states, the product manual does reference cleaning the filter. Like many if not most people, I didn't bother reading it when I first got the cooler. At the very least this seems like something that should be stamped on the unit with high visibility or included on a separate sheet that stresses the importance of cleaning the filter. Unfortunately Emerson's reputation made its untimely demise appear typical so I didn't bother troubleshooting. I can only wonder how many people spent their $80 and then threw it out when it started acting up. I'm glad I hung onto mine, and hope this review will save someone some unnecessary grief and/or the additional expense of replacing it.
It took less than a year for the cooler's performance to deteriorate where it could not reach the target temperature anymore and it keeps getting worse with time. Avoid it, it just isn't worth the aggravation.
Same experience as the rest of the reviewers here. The unit stopped working right after warranty runs out. Is this a coincidence or does Emerson do this on purpose to save money?

The fridge, while it worked, worked great. It kept my drinks nice and cool in my room. But after four months, the fridge started to emit a smoke smell and it stopped working correctly.
The motor freezes very easily, it doesn't cool very well. Not worth the money. it should have two motors. I didn't attempt to return it cause i'm a truck driver and it broke out on the road and I had to buy a black and decker from walmart, i couldn't carry both. don't waste your money.
Do not buy this!!!! It keeps things about as cold as a corner of a cool basement or cellar. Milk will spoil, food will spoil. I sent the first one back, company pushed for an exchange rather than a refund saying it was a good unit and I must have recieved a defective unit. NOPE. It just plain is a cruddy product.

Purchased this fridge after being very limited in dimensions. It came down to this and one other refrigerator that was not as nice. We chose this one and crossed our fingers. So far, it has been 3 months and we really like it. Sturdy construction, user friendly, nice freezer with pull out shelf drawer. Wine bottle chill and we love this ice maker....so nice to have a bin with good solid cubes. Great sturdy design. Only downside is that it leaned initially but the shop fixed it and the door handle for the fridge is a tiny bit loose. Overall, very pleased.

I've had this unit about 2 years. The bottom portion has quit working and sits at room temperature. It was a free replacement of an earlier NewAir product that also quit working after about 14 months. To their credit, NewAir made the swap even though the unit was out of warranty. I've been trying to figure out whether I've been unlucky or this is pretty much the normal expectation for units like this. Another reviewer here had worse luck than me, and some discussions on low-cost wine coolers like this suggest that they really don't last long. One site says, "most wine refrigerators are notoriously unreliable, you'll be lucky if it lasts 5 years much less 10."
I'm a bit puzzled by this, I have a small compressor-driver refrigerator (not for wine) running constantly and very quietly for 7 years with no issues. The thermoelectric units with no moving parts (except the fan) is billed as more energy efficient, lower in vibration and with less to go wrong, except they seem to go wrong rather frequently. They both went bad in the summer, when temps inside the house can rise to over 80 degrees F. That may be the issue right there, it may be just too much temperature difference for the unit. Another site advises, "thermoelectric coolers are limited in that they can generally only produce temperatures about 20°F lower than the temperature outside the unit. Compressor-based cooling does not have the same limitation." I had this unit installed in a small alcove in my pantry with a fan than constantly exhausts the heat to the outside.
Specific beef about this model; you have to pull out the bottle rack to remove a bottle. You can't do that unless you swing the door open very wide, a drawback if your space is restricted.
The real question is, should you be bothering to buy a product like this at all if you aren't willing to replace it every couple of years?
This dual zone wine fridge is perfect for apartment living. It is compact enough to fit in a limited space but provides enough slots in the racks for 1.5 cases of wine. The only glitch keeping it from 5 stars is the difficulty getting fat bottomed wine bottles into and out of the racks. You have to pull the bottle forward before trying to slide the rack out to take a bottle out and you have to pull the rack out to put a bottle in.
