I bought this May 9th, it developed a problem in early June. There is no viable owner's manual. It took over a week of repeated phone calls to reach a person at Maytag 'customer service'. Now I am spending all of Saturday July 2 waiting for the Maytag repair man to come for my 'appointment between 8 am and 5 pm'.

UPDATE the repairman came, the control panel needs to be replaced and will cost $800 for the part alone. It will not be available for about a month, so yet another day shot waiting around for another 'sometime between 8am and 5pm appointment' and of course the frustrations of a weeks old semi functioning refrigerator.

The cable adapter for older refrigerators, make this a tricky install because the cable is too long for a clean straight forward install. They should have made the ice-maker with either cable, but they must sell more of the newer type so this simple job turned into a bit of a challenge. This review is to help save others with older units as mine, some time. I ran the cable straight up between the first mounting bracket(left) and the ice-maker body. I then screwed in the screw to the first mounting bracket(left)to hold ice-maker into place. The cable comes over the top and down to the left and under the ice-maker and plugs into the power socket. The original cable came out of the socket and moved right under the ice-maker and back behind the ice maker. This can still be done, but as others have commented, the cables will be in the way of the catch basin and the ice-maker arm. By doing it my way you'll have no issues there. The only other issue is a small one. There is a plate that hides the ice-maker plug, when its plugged into the power socket. The plate can be manipulated by bending the small dog ear out a bit, to make room for the cable, which is going to the left side of ice-maker instead of to the right. I actually plugged the cable into the power socket and then clicked it to the left a couple of times to change the cable direction, so it could go left and then up and over. Then I manipulated the cover plate and screwed it in. I screwed in the last mounting bracket screw(right)to complete install. The ice-maker when done, looks good and you won't really notice the cable off to the left unless you are looking for it. The other reviewers are spot on when they say this ice-maker is less efficient, because it is. In my case, my older ice-maker made 8 cubes per batch, this one does 7 cubes per batch. All in all a good buy, if you can handle a bit of puzzle solving! Hope this helps other DIY'ers out there with the same problem.

The ice maker was a little different than the one i took out but when i hooked it up it made ice. I dont understand why the instuctions say you have to use your old stripper when it will not fit on the new unit though. the one it came with works fine.

Ice maker works fine and half the price of going through the manufacturer. If you're somebody who has never replaced their own ice maker, don't get yourself to worked up over it it's an extremely simple job that only takes a few minutes. Don't get overzealous and have someone come out and charge you a small fortune to do ten minutes of work for you.

This ice maker works better than the one that came in my GE refridgerator. My original ice maker never froze ice completely and thus we would have a big frozen lump. This one freezes completely and we always have plenty of ice.

Our ice maker made Ice only some of the time and then finally passed. I took the old unit apart and found the broken gear but given the gear was 10 dollars plus shipping and the Ice maker around $50 I went for the full replacement. Install was a little bit of a pain due to the length of the cord but other than that it was simple.

Replaced my burnt-out defrost heater. Product arrived in the original GE box. Installed easily, works as it is supposed to. This unit has the defrost switch and harness attached, so there is literally no fiddling around with splices or such, just unplug the old one and plug this in. Whole repair cost less than 1/3 what it did to have a repairman do it the last time.

There seems to be some confusion in general about which heater you get. My unit originally had a single tube defroster, which GE has deprecated in favor of a 2-tube unit that fits in its place. I actually thought I was getting the 2-tube, but instead got the original 1-tube. Easier for me, but the 2-tube might last longer. GE supposedly changed units so the energy density in the tubes would be lower, for longer life.

Freezer would frost up, completely, every couple weeks... finally diagnosed to the heater sure enough the old one was burnt out and this replacement fixed everything up. Thanks, Amazon, for having in stock and fast shipping.

We looked at the fridge an saw that we could put the part on ourselves so we checked around for it an amazon had the best prices. I bought the Avanti 1.7 cube refridgerator for my bedroom. The fridge only worked for 3 weeks and then the fan in the back just stopped working. THREE WEEKS! Avanti would not give me my money back or exchange my fridge for another one. Two years ago, I bought four refrigerators by AVANTI and within a year, one was already not functioning anymore.

Three months ago, a second one gave up.

The first time, they changed the unit because it was under warranty.

The second time they refused to change it because they said that it was not under warranty anymore.

Now I know why the warranty is only 1 year...because there product is not reliable and I advise any reader to go with another brand if you don't want to be in the same situation.

Two fridges down out of 4...do the maths ;-)

Looks nice but ... a carton of milk on the top shelf and a 2L coke on the door had chunks of ice within a day. I raised the temp setting to 39, then 40 degrees and waited 48 hours, same problem. I called LG Customer Service, I was told that was to be expected since cold air vents were located in those places. Their solution is to put my milk on a lower shelf. I called back and talked to a different rep, identical response. Neither rep would connect me to a supervisor. Although the 2nd rep did offer to schedule a service call, it would be at my expense since they consider that to be normal.

LG customer service was so bad. I felt like their purpose was not to help, but rather to get me off the phone. Both reps gave such similar responses, it seemed as if they were reading from a script.

I finally did got the refrigerator repaired, but only after I filed a dispute with my credit card company. At this price point, it shouldn't be this frustrating to get service.

Very poor pruduct..very poor service..they do not stock parts for these...I have many broken parts on it due to poor quailty..the light housing has melted because the light stays on..we have the bulbs turned out to stop a possible fire..DO NOT BUY A LG REFRIGEATOR!

DO NOT buy ANY LG refrigerator...... EVER !!!! They are plagued with problems that can NEVER be fixed... even with an extended warrantee. The freezer fans runs continually while the elements behind the back panel freezes solid around the fan. The noise that comes out of the fan running against the ice pack can keep anyone awake all night .

First, let me start by addressing the other reviews that have been critical of the quality of the Haier Tabletop Wine Cellar. I've used mine for over a month with no issues, and I believe I may have an explanation for others' perceived problems. The unit works by cycling a cooling fan on and off as needed, so it doesn't continuously run like most refrigerators do. Also, its thermostat is extremely particular, i.e. if it senses that it's cold enough, you can't turn it down low enough to force the fan to kick on. Finally, remember that this is a wine cooler, not a mini-fridge, and that wine isn't meant to be kept as cold as other beverages. We have our unit stored in a pantry on the coldest corner of our house and it keeps the wine right while barely running the fan. These circumstances could lead to a misperception that the unit has completely stopped working when in fact, it's just accurately having an "off" cycle. If my Wine Cellar ever does truly stop working, I'll certainly update this review.

Potential dependability issues aside, there are still critical problems with the Tabletop Wine Cellar that keep it from being a realistic solution for most people. The most immediate one is size when you pull it out of the box, you'll scratch your head wondering whether or not you really picked up the model for "Tabletop" use. Somewhere in the world, counters must be much deeper than where I live! I can't verify the dimensions that are quoted above, but the depth seems suspiciously small. Plus, the instructions for the unit specify that it needs several inches of clearance on the back and sides for ventilation. Taking this additional space into consideration, the Cellar is about the size of a microwave oven but much deeper. Our solution was to put it sideways on a microwave cart in a separate room; however, having to do so is a pretty big deviation from the way that it's advertised. In case you're planning on building it into a cabinet or bar as a workaround, the instructions prohibit that as well (again for ventilation concerns).

The second issue is that even as big as the Wine Cellar is on the outside, it's ironically cramped on the inside. Any bottle bigger than 750 mL will not fit unless you remove one of the wire racks, thus reducing it to an eight-bottle capacity (four 750 and four larger ones). Even if you stick with the standard bottle volume, some unusually-shaped bottles will still not fit. For instance, we found that the extra tall, skinny bottles of Chateau Ste. Michel have to be put in diagonally so that basically only one bottle fits per shelf and then you've got to be careful that it doesn't roll out when you open the door.

On the positive side, the unit is very quiet even when the fan is running, it's no louder than the fan on a new PC. It's also attractively styled in black with the appearance of a brushed pewter frame for the glass door. The door seal and hinge both feel solid and sturdy. The thermostat actually does result in a range of temperatures, but this of course precludes storing white and red together.

To sum up, the Haier Wine Cellar attempts to do the impossible providing a chiller spacious enough for a case of wine yet compact enough to fit neatly on a kitchen countertop but ultimately can't quite do it. I haven't experienced any of the motor failure problems that others have described (yet); mine has been a reliable performer. Unfortunately, the additional workaround of where to keep the unit and what to do about the bottles that won't fit in it reduce the Wine Cellar to much less than a hassle-free solution.

My wife and I received this Haier as a wedding gift. At first we loved it. After 6 months, it completely died. I spoke to Haier and they were willing to replace it, but with a purchase receipt, even after having told them it was a wedding gift. LUCKILY, we found out, around the way it was purchased through Costco; and Costco has the ULTIMATE customer service. So we returned it with no questions and received credit towards it's value; $96.00.

Don't buy this, it will set you up with a big disappointment.

We received this unit as a wedding gift last November and have had no problems with it at all. We live in an apartment, and have very little storage space and not the largest kitchen you've ever seen, however, the fridge fits on the counter, and is amazingly quiet. Overall, the size of it is basically as we expected. It's a small refrigerator, and the idea that it would be as small as a microwave, or toaster oven is just unrealistic.

I was really worried about plugging the thing in and having it not work, but found the entire "installation" process simple, and when I heard the unit come to life after I plugged it in, I loaded it up with wine and haven't looked back. No problems, no worries, and wine at the perfect temp--every time we pop open a bottle.

Just to prove how much faith we have in this little guy--we recently took a weekend trip out to Sonoma, and bought some really decent wines, and wines that we have no intention on drinking for at least a year--and we trust this item with them.

I understand there are more expensive units out there, and that there are probably better units available with more bells and whistles--however, for $89 you just can't go wrong. Plus, it looks cool. It's a great option for people like us, who have an apartment, or small house, with no options for a wine cellar, or an installed unit.

Here are a few suggestions I've stumbled upon along the way, that could help you out....

Make sure the fridge is kept in it's upright position and that it's not turned onto it's side or upside down.

Allow it the luxury of having a designated outlet.

Afford it plenty of room to "breath".

Make sure you keep the fan, and underneath the unit clean and free from dust buildup.

So, get the wine out of the closet, and onto the counter.

Mine worked fine for 3 months, then died a sudden death. It stopped cooling, but the fan still ran. It is not a deceptive on/off cycling as has been alluded to by one happy customer. It just plain croaked, suddenly. Ventilation was adequate. There was no recourse but to trash it.

Bought this one to replace my old Emerson 2-Door Compact Refrigerator (dead after 4 years). The refrigerator section is much colder than the Emerson. When I set the thermostat at 5 (total is 6), the milk I put in the door storage will has some ice in it. The temp of Emerson compact refrigerator is not stable. This one is better, and also quieter. Really love this refrigerator. But the packaging box of Danby is not strong. So make sure the refrigerator is not damaged when you receive the item.

I had purchased a Haier through Amazon and it was noisey then stopped working before 3 months were up. Amazon took it back no problem. So I started looking for another one and found this one. It is whisper quite, medium energy use and have had no problems. I would recommend it.

I had this fridge all through college and it was pretty good. The fridge itself looks really nice and stylish with the stainless steel. I loved having the separate real freezer, which none of the college dorm fridges had. I did run into a problem, where after about a year, the fridge portion started cooling very unevenly. My milk in the door would spoil too quick while items in the back would freeze solid. It worked out okay, but I had to learn where to place certain items in the fridge for best temperature.

I've had this refrigerator about three months and it works fine. However, when moving it, I apparently lifted it by the top and broke a plastic part that connects the top to the unit. Warranty doesn't cover plastic parts after 30 days. They gave me phone number to order replacement parts but I gave up after being on hold for one hour.
