Whynter Portable Fridge and Freezer

This refrigerator was purchased via Amazon Prime for use on a boat. This is a heavy item that I received overnight for $3.99 shipping--absolutely amazing service from Amazon. I was horrified to find that it did not work right off the bat but I received a same-day response from the manufacturer and they walked me through a procedure that got it up and running. Apparently, one of the electrical connectors sometimes detaches in shipping but can be easily reattached with some guidance. The refrigerator has worked perfectly since then (three months continuous use). Overall, this has performed as needed and I have been really pleased with the service from both the manufacturer and Amazon.

The Norcold outside fridge in my motorcoach failed after 10 years of dedicated service. The cost to replace it was unrealistically high so I gave this Whynter unit a try. Same 65 quart capacity and features but at 1/3 the cost.

Installation took ~2 hours as I needed to drill new mounting holes in my storage bays slide out tray and had to modify the feet on the new fridge so it could be bolted down. The feet have 5/16-18 threads so I used standard bolts with 3/4" rubber washers to make isolation feet.

The side mounted LED display can be hard to read in direct sunlight but the good news is once you set the temp it remembers even when unplugged for several weeks. Plug her back in and the unit cools down in just a few hours. Nothing like a 34 degree cold one after setting up camp.

So far so good. We use this as a spare refrigerator for our outdoor bar plus we take it on camping trips with us. Its better than any cooler (don't have to worry about refilling ice) and it keeps my beer and water bottles frosty cold. I would recommend this to anyone who needs an outdoor refrigerator as well as a spare refrigerator during any trip. I have not used in a freezer capacity so I have no idea how well it works for keeping things frozen.

We have used this as a freezer 2 times to freeze fish. We left it inside the the camper both times. It worked great. The fish was frozen and the unit was not noisy.

The FM-65G was received on time and very well packaged. A couple of bruises on the outside of the over pack but completely preserved on the inner pack. A quick read of the owners manual. and it was off and running. I ran it on both A/C and DC for approximately 2 hrs each. I did not try the Fast freeze function, but did set the thermostat for 8 deg. F (well below freezing) and it got there very quickly. Noise is not much above ambient and conversations around the unit would not be affected by the running noise. I must say that the whole unit exudes quality, both parts, construction and overall finish. Very impressive at first sight with the overall look of the unit. I almost hate to take it out for the first time camping as it is really good looking for a piece of camp gear. 500 bucks for a portable fridge/freezer-you bet and worth it. Hope I didn't jinx myself with the positive air of this review. I will update further as we are taking off in a week for an extended Southern Arizona trek, during the winter season.

what does one say about a product so ubiquitous its tasteless and odorless too? The nice man who serviced the a/c's out back was surprised, nay, glad I had some on hand as it not commonly used in my area. More so in Europe, he said and then only for heating in winter.

Summit FF1152SS

Bought this a year and a half ago. About six or nine months into it, the refrigerator started having problems keeping a consistently cold temperature. Frankly, I should have called Summit the first time I noticed things not as cold as they should be. However, I just kept turning the thermostat colder and colder, which seemed to solve the problem. Now, both the fridge and freezer are set to max and nothing is cold. Even though the compressor is guaranteed for 5 years by the manufacturer (only a 1 year limited warranty on everything else), I still have to pay $90 just to have someone from Summit come look at it. For a major home appliance, a one-year life is totally unacceptable.

Summit, on it's website, makes great claims about the quality and reliability of their products, but the proof is in the pudding, as they say. And this pudding is rancid...along with everything else in my fridge.

Black & Decker 3.3-cu ft 2-Door Refrigerator, Black

I bought this for my son's dorm, and bought it early enough that I could return it if it lived up to the poor reviews of not working very long (all the while hoping that was not the case because I love the design of this fridge, especially the separate freezer and the fruit /veggie crisper). I followed the directions by leaving it sit up right for at least 24 hours before plugging it in. Initially it worked great. The ice cubes froze and the drinks were cold. Alas' that only lasted for 3-4 weeks before it was completely warm inside. We unplugged itfor another 24 hours, then plugged it back in again, and the freezer worked again (ice cubes froze) for another day, but after that one day, the freezer stopped working again and the fridge never did get cold again after that second attempt. We returned it 2 days shy of 1 month. I'm nervous to try again with the same fridge so we got something different instead.

The problem we had was with the enormous depth/ short height of the refrigerator box, low deep shelves, extra forward door thickness, PLUS THE VERY SHARP lower edges of the freezer door handle when the lower door is open. So while you bend down to reach in, you have to remember to stay low getting out -or else OUCH! and maybe blood. You're best to study the front-to-back dimension of this model carefully. If you're shorter than 5'-0", then it's no problem.

Aside from this, there's more noise than usual. There's occasional "metal dropping" noises. The shelves cannot place tall jars unless you take out one of the glass shelves. The plastic bottom skirt simply falls out upon the slightest bump because it's a cheap afterthought appearance thingie.

On the upside, the temperature seems very consistent in both compartments. We got a rebate from the utility company for the CEE Tier 3.

Now hoping that the energy savings over time is true.

This fridge looks great, and it is the right size for under the counter in our kitchen, we bought it to keep all the drinks out of the big fridge.... but man! It drives us crazy constantly turning on and off, literally 10 times a minute. We have tried turning the temp up and keeping it full, but to no avail. It is really noticeable and bothersome in the quiet moments of the morning and evening...just when you want to relax and enjoy your kitchen. It's almost like it's breathing and straining. We are bummed about it.

This is a beautiful bev fridge that looks sleek and modern in our new wetbar. The blue light definitely has the "wow" factor and it does not warm the fridge like a traditional bulb can. The temperature is holding true at 39 degrees (which is the lowest setting since it is really the wine fridge with different shelves). It does exactly as promised and looks amazing doing it.

We had the Silhouette less than a year when it started getting loud and would no longer hold it's temperature. We called for warranty service but because it was a new home and it had been in the home 6 months longer, Danby wouldn't cover it. We had the builder's receipt and the house purchase info but they didn't care. I pulled it out of the cabinet just to check that it perhaps didn't have some simple problem like an air obstruction on the fan. It was extremely hot on the outside. No obstruction found. It did however proudly proclaim the city in China where it was manufactured.

Given the reviews here I can't see putting any money into this. I'll think I will look for another manufacturer.

In the 3 1/2 years I owned this cooler it failed two times. Once, in the first year and a half it needed a compressor replaced and this was done under warranty. At the 3 1/2 year mark, it did it again and this time I got a pro rata payment which ended up being 1/3 of the cost of a new beverage center. Two total failures in this short of time is not impressive and I am left with a small amount of money in which to buy a new unit. Customer Service is not helpful ignoring my request to reconsider their "settlement" based on their warranty. I don't recommend buying this beverage center for the reasons stated as well as the fact that it never cooled very well and runs a circulating motor every 10 seconds. Not a good choice!

Three Evaporators replaced in 2.5 years. Total Junk. Four months prior to the manufacturer warranty expired and it failed. Evaporator replaced. Six months later under a service contract, it failed again. One week after receiving it back, failed again. I'm convinced that the service companies are milking the service contract for low hanging fruit on this product, but aren't actually finding the real leak. Danby all but said, sorry about your luck and were no help. I don't recommend this product or any purchase of a Danby product as a result. This thing has been a total lemon. It's currently unplugged and awaiting yet another repair under the service contract. I plan to replace it with another name brand product.
