Sunpentown WC-1682 Thermoelectric 16-Bottle Wine Cooler

Sunpentown WC-1682 Thermoelectric 16-Bottle Wine Cooler
  • 16-bottle wine cooler with quiet, non-vibrating thermoelectric technology
  • Touch-sensitive control panel; LED display; adjustable thermostat
  • 3 slide-out chrome shelves; soft interior lighting; double-pane glass door
  • Recessed handle; freestanding; adjustable leveling legs for balance; ETL-approved
  • Measures 19 by 17 by 20 inches; 1-year limited warranty

Purchased the WC-1682. Received the unit promptly and the unit itself was in good shape. Nice looking unit, everything fit well and plenty of space for the wine.

Pro's

-The unit is reasonably priced.

-It presents well.

-Runs quietly.

-Cooling system is efficient.

Con's

Like all of these thermoelectric systems, it runs continuously. No getting away from this particular design and my guess is all of the manufacturers use the same guts. Given that these are relatively inexpensive, they must save some money by not putting in a relay to actually shut down the unit when it reaches the proper temperature. There may be other reasons for not stopping the cooling and fan completely, but it is not obvious to this engineer why they wouldn't do so except costs for putting the fan on a separate circuit and to keep the fan running for air circulation. An extra few components would be required to separate the fan control from the thermoelectric cooler. The fan and cooling systems slow down significantly when they reach the proper temperature, but neither actually stops. Hence they are inefficient.

The unit itself is poorly calibrated. The unit I received runs 7 degrees hotter than indicated by the display. I set it initially at 65 degrees and it was actually running at 72 degrees. I didn't run a complete set of tests to see the variation. The temperature was calibrated against a Fluke 971. There is no method or adjustments on the board to adjust this calibration. You simply have to live with it. Also, this will limit the lower temperature range since it can't be set below it's rated temperature.

The unit cannot be kept in a cool room. Since the thermoelectric cooling unit runs continuously, if the room gets at or near the temperature set point, then the temperature in the unit will drift downward because the unit cannot shut off. For example, if the room temperature is 66 degrees, and the unit is set at 65 degrees, the temperature will actually drift down to around 59 degrees or so because the cooling system never shuts down.

So far, the unit has been reliable and quiet. Minimum of movable components (only two fans). I would recommend the unit, with the caveat that anyone purchasing this separately calibrate the unit. Also, if you need to run the unit at or near the lowest temperature settings, this would not be recommended due the significant difference between the settings and the actual temperature.

There are no controls for temperature calibration. Once powered, the unit only cools below ambient temperatures of the room. THe ambient temp in my house is 68F, the internal thermometer of the wine cooler registers at about 41F and does not deviate this despite re-setting to 55F. I would not recommend this to anyone

Plenty of room for Pinot and tall napa cab bottles. In the month since I own the cooler it began by cycling between the set temperature and one degree lower then after about two weeks it cycles between one and two degrees below the set temp. I suspect thermometer is not that accurate. It is all in the correct range for red wine and probably not that critical. It's quiet and unobtrusive. Overall a good value. I would buy it again given my experience so far.

We where looking forward to this wine cooler, we ordered with express shipping, 2-3 days, but the cooler never arrived. Amazon promptly refunded our money, but we never found out why we did not receive the cooler?

In the meantime I received a replacement part for our Vinotemp Cooler, their service dept. sucks, but the cooler works now, let's see for how long.

Sorry, can't tell you about the Sunpentown cooler.

Whynter Portable Fridge and Freezer

Whynter FM-65G 65-Quart Portable Refrigerator/Freezer, PlatinumThis refrigerator was purchased via Amazon Prime for use on a boat. This is a heavy item that I received overnight for $3.99 shipping--absolutely amazing service from Amazon. I was horrified to find that it did not work right off the bat but I received a same-day response from the manufacturer and they walked me through a procedure that got it up and running. Apparently, one of the electrical connectors sometimes detaches in shipping but can be easily reattached with some guidance. The refrigerator has worked perfectly since then (three months continuous use). Overall, this has performed as needed and I have been really pleased with the service from both the manufacturer and Amazon.

The Norcold outside fridge in my motorcoach failed after 10 years of dedicated service. The cost to replace it was unrealistically high so I gave this Whynter unit a try. Same 65 quart capacity and features but at 1/3 the cost.

Installation took ~2 hours as I needed to drill new mounting holes in my storage bays slide out tray and had to modify the feet on the new fridge so it could be bolted down. The feet have 5/16-18 threads so I used standard bolts with 3/4" rubber washers to make isolation feet.

The side mounted LED display can be hard to read in direct sunlight but the good news is once you set the temp it remembers even when unplugged for several weeks. Plug her back in and the unit cools down in just a few hours. Nothing like a 34 degree cold one after setting up camp.

So far so good. We use this as a spare refrigerator for our outdoor bar plus we take it on camping trips with us. Its better than any cooler (don't have to worry about refilling ice) and it keeps my beer and water bottles frosty cold. I would recommend this to anyone who needs an outdoor refrigerator as well as a spare refrigerator during any trip. I have not used in a freezer capacity so I have no idea how well it works for keeping things frozen.

We have used this as a freezer 2 times to freeze fish. We left it inside the the camper both times. It worked great. The fish was frozen and the unit was not noisy.

The FM-65G was received on time and very well packaged. A couple of bruises on the outside of the over pack but completely preserved on the inner pack. A quick read of the owners manual. and it was off and running. I ran it on both A/C and DC for approximately 2 hrs each. I did not try the Fast freeze function, but did set the thermostat for 8 deg. F (well below freezing) and it got there very quickly. Noise is not much above ambient and conversations around the unit would not be affected by the running noise. I must say that the whole unit exudes quality, both parts, construction and overall finish. Very impressive at first sight with the overall look of the unit. I almost hate to take it out for the first time camping as it is really good looking for a piece of camp gear. 500 bucks for a portable fridge/freezer-you bet and worth it. Hope I didn't jinx myself with the positive air of this review. I will update further as we are taking off in a week for an extended Southern Arizona trek, during the winter season.

Samsung Rb215acpn 21 Cu. Ft. Full Size Bottom Freezer Refrigerator - Platinum

Samsung Rb215acpn 21 Cu. Ft. Full Size Bottom Freezer Refrigerator - Platinum
  • Twin Cooling System with Surround Air Flow
  • Power Freeze and Power Cool
  • Open Door Alarm and Kid-friendly EZ-Open Handle
  • External Digital Display and Control
  • Internal Filtered Ice and Water Dispensers

On this website & several other, this refrigerator indicates that it has a water filter & dispenser

"Convenient display shows the inside temperatures, when to change the filter, and controls the ice and water dispenser."

This refrigerator has NEITHER

I purchased this item sight unseen relying on the information advertised to be true. When I received the refrigerator without these items I was told that by the Samsung customer support & Executive Customer Relations that it was a mistake on the website (this isn't the only site that indicates that this model has a water dispenser google it). That's unfortunate because water dispenser is one major reason I chose this single door model. Hopefully the site will be updated but it doesn't help me. I will be returning it, & not for another Samsung because they feel that having *feature subject to change* on the bottom of the webpage is enough to justify missing features. Consumers generally chose one product over another based on the features so this is a lame excuse.

Liebherr CS2061

Liebherr CS2061We purchased a Liebherr CS1301 a few years back and had nothing but problems.

The finish, or lack thereof is almost impossible to keep clean. We contacted Liebherr service and were told the fridge only had a partial factory finish and we should use the 2 oz bottle supplied to do the finial finish. Talk about insane for a premium priced product.

We have tried no fewer than a dozen different cleaners and nothing works.

The freezer started acting up, the alarm would sound showing temp dropping. After awhile I contacted Liebherr. I was told there is an issue with the sensor whereby it freezes. This causes the fridge to bypass the thermostat.

Ok, so where is the customer notification or recall to fix this issue?

I've always purchased German products whenever possible, this brand is a total disappointment.

If I ever wanted my wife to leave me, all I would have to do is buy another Liebherr product.

Samsung DA97-07603A ASSEMBLY SUPPORT-ICE MAK ER;AW2 CD, -, -, -, -, -

Samsung DA97-07603A ASSEMBLY SUPPORT-ICE MAK ER;AW2 CD, -, -, -, -, -The original design had a square plastic front cover that was designed to protect the wires and the little foam and plastic piece on the bottom. Problem was that this seemed to come out constantly as ice or other items hit it. At least that was my experience and was the complaint I've seen elsewhere. The new design incorporates the cover so there is no need for the separate piece.

Don't bother calling a repair man. With a 10mm socket to remove the door and a Philips head screwdriver to remove the 2 screws that hold the unit in place, the hole thing's a breeze. Took about 45 minutes to replace which included the time necessary to clean out my overstuffed freezer drawers.

Ice maker was not working / local distributor said it would take some 2 weeks to get a replacement on order for almost twice the price I got on from Amazon for and within 4 days. Ha Ha / Another great job with my buying experience through Amazon.

Oh the FUNNY part of the story is my ice maker started working again but I am not returning the part since it was so inexpensive. I will hold on to it and will probably need it in the future. They just don't make parts like they use to in the good old days!!

Frigidaire FFTR1513LW 15 Cu. Ft. White Top Freezer RefrigeratorFrigidaire FFTR

Frigidaire FFTR1513LW 15 Cu. Ft. White Top Freezer Refrigerator
  • 15 cu. ft. top freezer refrigerator
  • Two Store-More humidity-controlled crisper drawers
  • One Store-More gallon door shelf
  • 2 wire sliding shelves
  • 2 full-width fixed door racks and 1 half-width fixed door rack

Within two weeks after the warranty expired this refrigerator broke down. The light would still go on when you opened the door but the cooling would not work no matter what setting you set it at. Now I have to have an expensive repair done. I should have known better. I've had Frigidair refrigerators in the past and they have all broken down. Save yourself the trouble and pick ANYTHING but a Frigidaire.

Buy Frigidaire FFTR Now

This is the smallest full size refrigerator available, at 14.8 cu ft. I bought one to replace my 21 year old 12 cu ft Frigidaire, this being the only model that would fit under my built-in cabinets. I thought it would be a little quieter, and well as larger. But no! The manual specifically says, "Rigid foam insulation is very energy efficient, but is not a sound insulator ... the compressor may have a high-pitched hum or pulsating sound." I rate that hum as about an A below middle C, right in our normal voice range, therefore making it extremely hard to hear the TV when the compressor is running. My old Frigidaire had a low pitched hum which altho loud, did not interfere with hearing the TV. Now who is going to buy a very small refrigerator? Certainly not a well-to-do person in a large house, where the kitchen is separated from the living room by a dining room, halls, etc. No, generally a small refrigerator is going into a small house. My kitchen, dining, and living space are all in one 11.5x23 foot room, and my Danish recliner is exactly 3 feet from the refrigerator. Every time the compressor comes on, I have to turn up the TV, and when it turns off, I return to normal volume. This is disgracefully bad planning on the part of Frigidaire. Which would you rather have a larger and noisier refrigerator, or a smaller and quieter one?

On top of this, once the delivery men install the refrigerator, one naturally looks at the literature and wants to send in the warranty card, which requires the serial number. My old refrigerator had the serial number conveniently inside the refrigerator on the right hand wall. This new refrigerator has the serial number on the back, so now it must be pulled out away from the wall to read the number. (The literature does not contain the serial number.)

You will also note that every photo of Frigidaires on the internet is so washed out that you can't see them. A company that has so little concern for the real needs of its customers does not deserve to remain in business.

I use this in my office, and I couldn't be much happier with it. It was inexpensive, and it performs far above my expectations. It is very quiet and seems to be efficient (runs for a short time and shuts off for a long time). There is plenty of space inside much more usable space than a conventional dorm-style mini fridge for not much more money. The door has a convenient holder for cans of soda, and the shelves are easily adjustable.

This was the best price I found on this item including delivery to my office so no hassles getting it into my car. I let it sit upright and unplugged for 48 hours as recommended for mini fridges. It is VERY QUIET which is why I bought it because my office is quiet. Black color is nice and quality seems good.

We upgraded from a 1.7 cubic foot Haier fridge that was several years old and giving us temperature control issues, freezing everything over and building up so much ice that the door wouldn't close. I was ready to go "Office Space" on its a#$ and take it into a field somewhere and beat it into little pieces.

After a lot of shopping around, we finally decided on this Danby for the upgrade.

First let me say that we purchased from an appliance store, not from Amazon, so did not have any of the shipping issues that some people have had.

However, I wanted to contribute my positive review, as I think the product deserves a few more.

Compared to the 1.7 cu ft. fridge, this is utterly roomy and delightful. I was pleased with how much I could fit in here.

It's a functional mini fridge that is silent, except when the compressor kicks in (which is every 30 minutes or so, or after the door has been open for a few minutes) and only runs for a little while. The compressor creates a low-frequency hum that is noticeable but not at all loud or obnoxious. Some noise is to be expected from an appliance, unless you're in the super-high-end ($$$) market, and, in my opinion, this is relatively quiet.

The adjustable shelves inside are glass, not wire, and seem sturdy and well-made. Maybe could have used one extra shelf, but not a big deal. There is a nice spot in the door where you can fit a bottle of wine, a big tray underneath the freezer box for collecting water during defrosting, a temperature adjust knob (which we left at the factory setting and has been perfect so far), a nice freezer (not tall enough to fit a pint of ice cream, but works for us), and it comes with a little ice cube tray...

The #1 problem we were having with the last fridge the freezer has not been an issue with this one.

Ice cubes freeze up in a reasonable amount of time, and things on the refrigerator shelf DIRECTLY below the freezer box do not get frozen. Can I get an amen.

The one reason we ALMOST didn't buy this fridge was that a good chunk of the door space is taken up by a soda can storage system we don't drink soda and were annoyed that this was going to be wasted space. However, we've found ways to make use of it. Because they are compartments for separate soda cans and not one big long "chute" where they are stacked and dispensed, you can stick things in the slots like apples, oranges, even bottles of beer.

The black finish is handsome and clean, the door is reversible, there is one touch automatic defrost overall, it's about as classy as you're going to get for a mini fridge in this price range.

We are VERY happy with this purchase and would recommend it to anyone.

Fire Magic 3591 5.8 Cu. Ft. Capacity Kegerator / Beer Dispenser - Stainless Steel Door / Black Cabi

Fire Magic 3591 5.8 Cu. Ft. Capacity Kegerator / Beer Dispenser - Stainless Steel Door / Black Cabinet
  • Accommodates Full Sized Kegs
  • Conveniently Converts to a 5.8 cu ft Refrigerator
  • Includes CO2 Tank
  • Not rated for outdoor use

I purchased a Danby outdoor Kegorator (maker of Fire Magic) 4 years ago. I also purchased a 3 year extended warranty. The kegorator died before the first keg had been consumed. Over the next 2 years the kegorator died and was repaired 5 times by a factory authorized warranty repair. Danby finally admitted to me there was a design flaw that caused the printed circuit board to burn out. After 2 1/2 years when the warranty was almost up I suggested to Danby they return the purchase price and I would return the Kegorator. That is when they stopped replying to my emails. Do not buy there products!
