This product seems to work fine and looks good. It just seems very expensive considering other models I have considered. The biggest selling point for me was the size. It was the only one that fit the undercounter space I had. So, for that, I am grateful.

Purchased the WC-1682. Received the unit promptly and the unit itself was in good shape. Nice looking unit, everything fit well and plenty of space for the wine.

Pro's

-The unit is reasonably priced.

-It presents well.

-Runs quietly.

-Cooling system is efficient.

Con's

Like all of these thermoelectric systems, it runs continuously. No getting away from this particular design and my guess is all of the manufacturers use the same guts. Given that these are relatively inexpensive, they must save some money by not putting in a relay to actually shut down the unit when it reaches the proper temperature. There may be other reasons for not stopping the cooling and fan completely, but it is not obvious to this engineer why they wouldn't do so except costs for putting the fan on a separate circuit and to keep the fan running for air circulation. An extra few components would be required to separate the fan control from the thermoelectric cooler. The fan and cooling systems slow down significantly when they reach the proper temperature, but neither actually stops. Hence they are inefficient.

The unit itself is poorly calibrated. The unit I received runs 7 degrees hotter than indicated by the display. I set it initially at 65 degrees and it was actually running at 72 degrees. I didn't run a complete set of tests to see the variation. The temperature was calibrated against a Fluke 971. There is no method or adjustments on the board to adjust this calibration. You simply have to live with it. Also, this will limit the lower temperature range since it can't be set below it's rated temperature.

The unit cannot be kept in a cool room. Since the thermoelectric cooling unit runs continuously, if the room gets at or near the temperature set point, then the temperature in the unit will drift downward because the unit cannot shut off. For example, if the room temperature is 66 degrees, and the unit is set at 65 degrees, the temperature will actually drift down to around 59 degrees or so because the cooling system never shuts down.

So far, the unit has been reliable and quiet. Minimum of movable components (only two fans). I would recommend the unit, with the caveat that anyone purchasing this separately calibrate the unit. Also, if you need to run the unit at or near the lowest temperature settings, this would not be recommended due the significant difference between the settings and the actual temperature.

There are no controls for temperature calibration. Once powered, the unit only cools below ambient temperatures of the room. THe ambient temp in my house is 68F, the internal thermometer of the wine cooler registers at about 41F and does not deviate this despite re-setting to 55F. I would not recommend this to anyone

Plenty of room for Pinot and tall napa cab bottles. In the month since I own the cooler it began by cycling between the set temperature and one degree lower then after about two weeks it cycles between one and two degrees below the set temp. I suspect thermometer is not that accurate. It is all in the correct range for red wine and probably not that critical. It's quiet and unobtrusive. Overall a good value. I would buy it again given my experience so far.

In the meantime I received a replacement part for our Vinotemp Cooler, their service dept. sucks, but the cooler works now, let's see for how long.

Showed up on time and was easy to replace. The old one looked the same as the new one in every way. I replaced it because the door system said it was time. The next week we had the LG repairman out on another issue (to replace the tracks on the flimsy upper drawer in the freezer) and he told me that the air filter may never need replaced, and the water filter should last twice as long as the unit would let you think. Filter arrived today and it's identical to the one that came from Sears with the Kenmore Elite refrigerator. We replaced the orginial after the recommended 6 months but it really could wait for 1 year in our fridge. It's basically just a charcoal filter that absorbs the odors. (We're not big fish eaters) The packing left a little to be desired. It was just the filter thrown in a large box. No plastic wrap or even a packing slip. Just the filter.... odd way to ship but it arrived and was just what I needed.

Received the item quickly and efficiently. It was the correct model. Packaging was a little odd but got the job done (it was shipped inside mailer envelope with no invoice and no instructions).

My only complaint is about the cost, especially since this filter is *supposed* to be replaced every 6 months. The price ($14.62) seems excessive, but this was the going rate no matter where I tried to get it from, including LG (I've noticed the price has gone up a little since I purchased). It is just a little plastic frame with some thin mesh and I presume some activated charcoal inside. Why does it cost SO much?!! Since we never have any dairy, meat or fish in our fridge, it probably does not need to be replaced so often.

I purchased this pop cooler for my small concessions area to hold drinks. When it arrived it was obvious the door hinges had been bent and we had to fix this for the door to even stay on.

The top handle should have been attached at the manufacturer because there is not way to attach the top handle without removing the seal around the door.

The shelfs themselves are weak. The top shelf bowes in when you put bottles on the shelf.

Spend a little more and get a better quality product.

I am a research buff and read over 300 reviews on refrigerators. I wanted one at work to keep my drinks and food cold. Many reviews stated that this unit does not get cold enough. I beg to differ. This refrigerator gets colder than I can keep it. I have to lower the temp to a lower setting so my drinks won't freeze. I really like this unit a lot. It is small enough to hide under my desk and even behind my desk in the corner. No one really knows that I have one at work. Danby may make nice refrigerators, and price-wise, their strongest competition seems to be Haier and Avanti, especially for compact fridge for use in dorm/offices.

Now, my previous personal fridge was a Haier which lasted for a good 2 1/2 years, but it suddenly died one day and I needed a quick replacement. I used it primarily for storing drinks and snacks, so I didn't need one that was "freezing" cold.

I did my fair share of research, and landed on this deal directly from amazon.

The problem with getting compact fridges shipped is the packaging. Note, this unit essentially has none, aside for a half inch thin "padding" of styrofoam on each side. It is shipped directly in its retail package, and a lot of people have noted that some shipped fridges arrive DOA due to the damage during shipping, so my suggestion is to reduce time it takes to ship as much as your budget allows. Luckily, this Danby is lightweight, and though the box look a bit beat up, the unit itself is in fine working order so far.

Another problem is the temperature. I haven't measured it directly, but it is true that it may not be cold enough for medical purposes, and anything other than storing refreshments for that matter. I expect dairy (e.g. milk) would be okay, but if opened frequently the unit seems to get warm fairly easily. It does get colder after around 24 hrs after the unit has turned on.

The inside has a strong "factory" odor to it, and it takes some time to get rid of, but not a major problem. There is also a light that comes on when the door opens, which is a plus factor.

For the price range, this makes a great personal beverage cooler which was exactly what I needed, but I suspect that it may not be cold enough for some (as others have noted). If you need a fridge that needs to be colder, look for a unit that has a small freezer section up top; they tend get much colder than this Danby. Good luck!

This is NOT a refrigerator in the sense that most people think of. It does not have freon or a compressor it and will not actually cool anything. It is a thermoelectric fridge and will only go 10 degrees below room temp. (Information I learned after arguing with Danby that the product was broken because it never actually got cool.) You are better of putting ice in a cooler. Do not waste your time or money if you are actually looking for a compact fridge that will keep items cool.

These come in black too, wanted a black one but took the white one because I could get it from amazon and thus far I am 100% satisfied with amazon and their customer service is insanely good. Sadly the fridge was returned, it wouldn't get cold enough for our needs, 48degrees and fluxuated between 47 and 48, we needed it as a baby formula preservation system in our nursery, just isnt cold enough for that, or anything else I can think of needing a fridge for.

I used this as a replacement for a built-in refrigerator on a boat. The RV/Boat replacement refrigerator was $700. Ok... with the Avanti, no ice. But $500+ price difference buys a lot of ice! The RV/Boat refrigerator did have an transfer switch that allow for automatic AC to DC transfer when the AC was shut off. I don't mind doing it manually for the 10% of the time where I need to use DC. Lastly, the Avanti documentation clearly states that the unit should not be placed in a confined space and proper air flow is required. There seems to be enough space around the unit where I built it in so that the heat is dissipated. Inside temperature seems to be consistently 38 degrees. Highly recommend the Avanti 1.7 Cu. Ft. AC/DC Superconductor Refrigerator.
