Danby Silhouette Select DBC7070BLSST

Danby Silhouette Select DBC7070BLSST
  • 5.3 cu. ft. Capacity
  • 60-Can Capacity
  • 27-Bottle Capacity
  • Glass Shelves
  • Digital Thermostat

We purchased this beverage center several years ago. We still have not had cold drinks. The first one malfunctioned immediately and had to be returned, even though it was obvious something was wrong with it because the smell was terrible and it ran so loudly that you could not be in the same room with it. The company still fought us on taking it back and I just recently found out our local dealer still has not received reimbursement on it. We then received a new one and after many months of warm canned items we finally got tired of the troubleshooting and our local dealer gave us an inexpensive loaner (which does keep things cold, but is not nearly as attractive) and they have had ours for over 5 months. We just finished a remodel and still no beverage center for the cabinet company to fit. Finally called upset at the amount of time it had taken and once again Danby was the problem. Supposedly a part still had not come and our local dealer was not receiving the support from Danby. I would NEVER buy another product from them. Sadly my husband sells beer and everyone knows to bring a cooler because in the summer the beer is not cold at our house.

Buy Frigidaire GLFC1526FW 14-4/5-Cubic-Foot Manual-Defrost Chest Freezer, White Now

We purchased this Frigidaire chest freezer(model #GLFC1526FW) from our favorite local dealer on Sept.26,2011 to replace another freezer we lost in the flood. First I noticed how light weight the lid is. How can that be a proper seal? Frost does build up quickly. A few days ago I noticed the frost build-up was soft. I thought my 13yr. old son left something stick up too high and the lid wasn't shut all the way. Nope! This morning my food was thawing! Called my dealer and they sent a man to check it out. Refrigerant leak. He tried to fix, but says it is still leaking. He says the lady at the store will call me about a replacement. Good thing I have another freezer and everything fit! This freezer isn't even 9 months old yet! Don't they make anything that works or lasts anymore?

Whynter BWR-281DZ Dual Zone Built-In Wine Refrigerator, 28-Bottle

Whynter BWR-281DZ Dual Zone Built-In Wine Refrigerator, 28-BottleAs a previous Viking wine fridge owner, I've been spoiled. I wasn't expecting anything close given the fraction of the cost. I was duly pleased by what I got in this dual zone wine fridge.

The wine fridge shipped via freight which was a nice surprise. I would not have enjoyed receiving this delivery if had to get beat up by UPS package delivery. Scheduling the delivery ahead of time was also way more convenient than getting that annoying door tag when you miss the delivery. So it was off to a good start.

Packaging was plain but sturdy enough for the item. Handle bar had to be installed and was easy enough. Nice handle bar actually. Easy to grip with no sharp corners. The shelving is very very nice. It's wood trimmed metal shelving, which actually gives it more space in the interior. The shelves are fully removeable and I'm actually no using the bottom most shelf. I store my larger bottle on the bottom. Storage0wise it fits 28 750ml bottles with no problems. I'm actually surprised I a 15" dual zone unit could fit that many bottles. If you want to put larger bottles, just remove the bottom most shelf on either

The actual installation was easy enough and I actually had this put into my library/bar room. Fits well and appears to be ADA compliant with the height, not something I was specifically looking for but was fine with me. The lighting is very sleek. Never realized white LED lighting could look this fancy. Each zone has it's one lighting to it's adequately illuminated. Controls are easy enough and the display is fairly true to actuals based on some basic comparison I did with an oven thermometer. Both zones are pretty distinct and good at keeping their own set temps. The unit itself also runs fairly quiet. I do use the room as a study at times and have not noticed it running in the background. I did catch it cycling once, but it's for the most part subtle. Forgot to mention that the lock on the unit itself was a plus especially with teenagers in the house! The one negative I had was the clarity of the temperature display, slightly difficult to read in lowlight situations.

This is actually a interestingly premium type wine refrigerator that may not have every single refinement of your top end fridges but is certainly not lacking in style and performance. Given the relative price, this is actually a really decent buy.

I like the look of the unit!!! The maple finish on the drawers matches our cabinets to a tee.

My only issues are that it will not hold 28 regular sized bottles. It seems to be running all the time. It is a little loud when it is running.

The drawers seem a little cheesy.

For the price I still fell it was a good buy.

Buy Whynter BWR-281DZ Dual Zone Built-In Wine Refrigerator, 28-Bottle Now

They may say 28 bottles, but the fine print is that they must be skinny bottles. Stack 3 one way and 2 the other for 5 racks and three on the bottom. Forgetta about it. I took the bottles I already have and was able to get three per rack for 5 racks and 3 more on the bottom. Expect to fit 18 bottles. Plus it was cramped. Some of the bottles were fat on the bottom and they barely fit vertically. The dual zone has the higher temperature in the upper zone and the lower zone for lower temperatures. So if you want to store red wine, you'll get to store 6 bottles in the upper zone. I was hoping to store more red than white. I'm probably going to stay with the highest temperature on the lower zone and similar temperature on the upper zone so really the dual zone didn't work for me. I'm going to make it low end for red and high end for white so basically it will be a one zone cooler. I must say, Amazon said I would get it on such and such a day at such and such a time and it did. That was impressive to me. It does have a bit of a hum to it, but maybe it's just because it's getting to the correct temperature. I was hoping for more quiet.

Cooler was deliver at about 9am I unpacked the unit & read that it should sit up right for 2 or more hours, I let the unit set until about 4pm, plugged it in & set the temps to 54 & 48 degrees, When I started the unit the display showed 68 degrees for both the upper & lower sections. two hours later the readings were 78 degrees for both levels, an hour after that the readings were 84 degrees for both levels.Obviously the unit was defective.

I called customer support & left a message (after hours) with a return phone number. When I did not receive a return call by noon the next day I call customer service again, & was told I had to E-MAIL tech support with the problem. That is where the nightmare started.....After sending the model # the serial # & my contact info along with what the problem was, I received a reply with instructions of how to start trouble shooting the defective unit..The instructions completely dis rearguard all the info I had sent describing the problem..My guess is the reply was a computer generated generic e-mail; push this; set that, check for leaks, BLAH, BLAH, BLAH. Isn't it the manufacture's responsibility to provide a service person to troubleshoot & repair their product when it is ONLY A FEW DAYS OLD!!!

I have NEVER heard of E-MAIL troubleshooting;especially with the customer doing the troubleshooting..... So unless you are prepared to spend DAYS e-mailing Customer Service@

Whynter Innovations Group don't buy from this company. If you do, & you have a problem, brush up on your typing skills....

Danby DWC172BL 1.8-Cu.Ft. 17-Bottle Counter-Top Wine Cooler, Black

Danby DWC172BL 1.8-Cu.Ft. 17-Bottle Counter-Top Wine Cooler, Black
  • 17-Bottle (1.8 cu. ft.) capacity
  • Shatter resistant tempered glass door
  • Auto-cycle defrost
  • 2 Full Width Vinyl Coated Wire Shelves
  • 1 Staggered vinyl coated wire shelf

I did a bit of research before deciding to purchase the Danby. The price was right and reviews of other makes tended to say things like "stopped working after n months". Also, the thermoelectric technology on many of the other makes doesn't seem to be able to keep things cool if the temperature reaches above 85 or 90, which is quite easy to achieve in NY during the summer. The Danby has an old tech compressor which is time tested and should be reliable for years. The major problem is vibration. When it's running the thing vibrates the wine bottles excessively. This is bad for long term evolution of wine. But, if you have bottles for long term this thing is way too small to begin with. My long term stuff is in a wine storage facility. The other problem is the temperature control. Wine shoud be stored at 53-55deg. At the very, very lowest setting (knob turned to just above where it turns off) it varies between 49-53deg, as tested by a Taylor 1458 wireless temp/humidity gauge. A little too low but acceptable for short term, at least it's not too high which will ruin wine faster than anything. Humidity is also diffcult to maintain and is too low (30-40%) even with a bowl of water and wet paper towel. These faults make it useless for long term storage of wine (several years), but for short term (months) it should be fine.

Buy Danby DWC172BL 1.8-Cu.Ft. 17-Bottle Counter-Top Wine Cooler, Black Now

This isn't even worth it for a basic collector. There isn't a temperature display, but the large problem here is that the temperature control switch offers NO range at all. You could for example set it to highest or lowest settings and get no difference AT All in actual temperature. Not only that but the temperature is too cold for red wine to be properly stored. I hate to be a perfectionist here but hey, isn't that why we buy these things in the first place? I've spoken with other former owners of this hassle of a cooler and heard the same review. The best part was when I called to tell Danby of the problem customer service told me the problem was an isolated problem they've never had before and that the temperature should be able to be adjusted. SO I sent back and received another, then another. None of them ever got warmer (or colder) than 45 degrees and I have sent it back a final time. KEEP SHOPPING AROUND!

This reasonably priced, sturdy refrigerator seems to be doing the job it advertised. A great value for this discounted price, it is also an attractive item for your kitchen, bar or pantry. I don't know if they had Houdini doing the counting, though...I cannot possibly imagine how one could configure it into holding SEVENTEEN (!) bottles of wine!

Bought this unit From TheFactoryDepot via Amazon at the end of July 2010, and it worked until late April 2011 (warranty is good until April 2012). When it ceased working, I visited the Danby website to find a service depot. Located one nearby, dropped off the unit. After a week went by, I was told the compressor had failed, and was directed (by the depot) to contact the seller for return/replacement. Called TheFactoryDepot and was told I need to contact the manufacturer. Called Danby, and they are closed on a Friday in anticipation of a Canadaian holiday (Victoria Day) on Monday. At this point, I am not optimistic about the outcome. Will post an update when I reach the end of this quest.

UPDATE, June 7, 2011: Was finally able to contact Danby's customer service department after many attempts and busy signals. Provided the information about my unit, and was told they would contact the service depot for specifics on the failure. Several emails and phone calls later, I was finally told that Danby was going to give me a refund and send me a check for the amount of purchase. That was one week ago... no check yet. Will post again when (if) I receive the refund.

UPDATE, July 9, 2011: The check from Danby arrived today. Case closed.

There is indeed space for 17! bottles in this cooler, but three of them need to be eiswein! I doubt this will hold 17 .75 liter bottles; I might get one more eiswein in it for 18 bottles. It took some figuring how to do it, but 17 will fit. I haven't had the cooler long enough to note its efficiency, but it seems durable enough. For the price, it seems to be a good purchase.

3.9 Cu. Ft. Capacity Stainless Steel Top Load Washer - White

3.9 Cu. Ft. Capacity Stainless Steel Top Load Washer - White
  • 3.9 cu. ft. capacity stainless steel top load washer
  • Energy Star qualified
  • Hydrowave quiet agitator wash system provides a gentle, thorough cleaning
  • Rotary electronic controls with cycle status lights provide accurate cycle times
  • 16 varied wash cycles for nearly unlimited options

I, like so many others, was horrified when my washer finally died after 22 years. After reading all the reviews, virtually no washer available got what I considered really good marks, even those that were well over a $1,000. Consumer reports is starting to get silly on this environmental stuff so they didn't even review washers with agitators. Geesh! Amazon is starting to be more and more reliable and is quoted quite often by reviewers with the advantage of being able to read each review. After balancing reviews, costs, and using a little common sense, I decided to go with this washer.

First thing everyone needs to understand, these new style washers do not fill with water. When the wash cycle starts, the wash basket spins slowly while water is sprayed onto the garments, thus soaking the garments. You need to place the detergent in the washer before the wash starts since there is not enough water to disperse the detergent in the same manner as the old washers. I think that is what is worrying so many people...it's just different. There are also separate dispensers for bleach and fabric softener; I have used the one for bleach and it worked beautifully.

Reading the manual is a must because it really lays out what exactly the washer does and it's easy to manipulate the settings to do what you'd like. There's even a setting for just blue jeans. Or, you can override everything and just do long washes filled with as much water as the machine allows...but I doubt the wash would come out any better. Also a big plus, most regular loads have come out really, really dry. It's almost bizarre of how rung out they are and it has cut down on drying time. It is also very quiet...at least compared to our old machine.

Of course, I have no idea how long this washer will last but it has really exceeded my expectations. I honestly am very surprised at how well this washer works. My only advice for reading reviews on these new washers is realize they use much, much less water and spin really fast so complaints that are the results of those two realities, like clothes being twisted due to the fast spin, you almost have to ignore.

This is a very, very good washer and the price makes this thing a best buy, in my opinion. I honestly couldn't be happier.

2.26.13: Just as a quick add-on as I've now had this washer for over 3 months. I live in the country and am on a well system for water. Due to our filtration system I can see how much water we use. We use so much less water now I am shocked. Now, for me, I'm not that big on the ecological stuff as I find most of it to be misleading. However, if you want to use less household water, this washer has made a significant difference. If water conservation is a concern, then this is a good washer for that reason alone.

We have been very happy with this machine since purchasing it roughly two years ago, after our last washer gave up the ghost. The tank in the old machine developed a serious leak, which would have cost as much as a new machine to fix.

This model uses less water and far less energy than the old one, as it is designed to handle the new extra-strength super soaps, which produce the same clean for about a third of the volume of soap.

The tank may look like it has very little water in it, but in fact it is quite wide and deep, which enables the machine to rotate at slower and more gentle speeds than older models, with less water.

The tank is stainless steel, as opposed to older style machines whose tanks with fragile ceramic coatings that often chipped and cracked.

Stainless steel can be expected to hold up without rusting or popping leaks.

We bought this unit on the advice of a parent who had recently bought a similar model and was very happy with it. So far, so good.

This machine gets my clothes clean, uses less water, detergent, and electricity than my last machine and has a huge basket. The basket does not fill all the way but I have ran some pretty big loads and have not noticed any spotting or problems with my clothes. The power rinse option seems to compensate for not filling the basket all the way. My preferred setting is the manual fill Super Load, with cold water for colors and warm for whites and I always use the PowerRinse option. Only drawbacks I've noticed is that the machine is much louder than I expected it to be (especially when the agitator is running) and that it took forever to ship from the dealer I ordered it from. These are the reasons I only give it a four star. Owned it for a little over a month now though and no major complaints thus far. I called GE on the noise and they said this should decrease with time and is completely normal when breaking in a new wash machine. Time will tell.

Want 3.9 Cu. Ft. Capacity Stainless Steel Top Load Washer - White Discount?

I had to purchase a new washer when my old one finally gave up after having been repaired twice. This one is very quiet and after the spin cycle, the clothes are very dry so that drying time is cut in half. I have seen negative reviews complaining about the water level. I just turned it to super and didn't use the precise fill selection. Also, I saw a tip from another owner that if you select the fabric softener rinse, you will get more water in the rinse cycle. I used to have to close the laundry room door, which is right off the family room where we watch TV when using the old one. This one was so quiet I had to go check to see if it was running. I did find that I don't have to use as much detergent so that will save some money, there is a speed wash cycle if I need something in a hurry and shorter drying time. My best friend has a front loading HE washer and hates it. She saw this one and now wants to come try it out to see if she wants to sell hers and get one. Apparently mold and mildew buildup in hers is a problem. As far as how long this washer will last remains to be seen, but initially I am very pleased.

Update 2/12/2013 I have been using the washer for a few weeks now and I still love it. I have read reviews where people have complained that it doesn't use enough water. If you learn to use the settings, you can get as much water as you want. I have to wash a lot of dirty jeans and towels. I use the super load setting and the fabric softener rinse setting. Both give plenty of water and my clothes get as clean as I could expect. No, not every stain comes out, but some of them are just permanent and no washing machine on earth could get them out. Spin cycle gets clothes very dry so my dryer only needs to run about half the time.

The first motor stopped working 6 months after we got it. The second one was a little better it lasted 2 years. Now we're getting our third motor in three years. And this was not as a result of heavy use we're a family of 2, no kids. Our last GE washer lasted 12 years with no problem. They don't make 'em like they used to.

Vinotemp 88-Bottle Dual-Zone Wine Dispenser and Cooler

Vinotemp 88-Bottle Dual-Zone Wine Dispenser and Cooler
  • Front exhaust allows for built-in installation
  • Dispenses from 4 bottles. Keeps open wine fresh for several weeks through the use of argon or nitrogen gas
  • 14 coated metal shelves, recessed handle and blue LED interior light
  • Two-zone wine cooler stores 34 bottles in the top compartment and 54 in the bottom compartment
  • Safe to use in bottle - stopper and dispenser parts are FDA approved

First, let me express that the below is my opinion based upon my experience with this purchased item. As both an architect and engineer by trade I think I am qualified to pass judgment on a product and determine if it represents a stunning or quality product. Having stated the aforementioned...

I was really excited about getting this wine cooler and dispenser when I first came across it. Given the price I anticipated that it would exude quality. Additionally I expected that somehow that quality would help to justify the price.

Boy was I wrong.

The item is cheaply built and believe it or not... made in China. When I say cheaply built, let me explain... the top of the cooler where the digital readout is located is a flimsy piece of plastic and it doesn't sit horizontally parallel to the door. Rather it is skewed at an angle due to the hinge pin of the door which forces the plastic piece of the faceplate upwards on the right hand size as you face the cooler.

Additionally the interior walls of the cooler are comprised of thin plastic and if you place any pressure on them they will move under the force.

The dispensing element that is built into the cooler is a bit of a joke in that the components that provide this capability could be purchased at any hardware store for about $25. It's just a bunch of tubing that leads to a nitrogen tank that provides pressure via a momentary switch. I was expecting some cool electronics or hi-tech sophistication given the expense of this item.

The sliding shelves are a joke in that they barely pull out and they are all metal like the top of a barbecue grill where they just don't feel particularly sturdy or classy. Unlike other fine quality coolers there is no ball bearing sliders, no wood that fronts the shelves... they are very plain typically like those you would find on a $100 wine fridge from a local home depot or lowes.

The LED lighting is poorly integrated and does not bath the cooler shelves with evenly distributed light.

The doors do not smoothly open and close but rather the top door in particular has to be closed with some force due to it being misaligned by the nature of its construction.

The locking mechanism is a joke in that the lock is not a lock but more of a latch. Although a pentagon shaped key is provided it is not 'keyed' uniquely to the cooler. Rather any device can be used to undo the latch (or lock as they refer to it) that can fit into the keyed area. A butter knife as example, or flat object, can be placed between the door and cabinet and without any force, simply push the latch to an unlocked position. So if you want to feel some level of security with your fine wine... forget about it.

If you look at the purchase price and consider that you could purchase the VinoTemp 4 bottle dispenser (which includes the cooling feature)for under $1000 and additionally a VinoTemp 160 bottle dual temperature cooler that has a much fancier appearance for $1000... Well you do the math... your paying $3000 because they integrated the technologies into a single package... There is no uptick to the quality compared to their other products. Perhaps just the opposite.

Simply put,... I do not consider this wine cooler/dispenser to be any great achievement.

Overall I consider the cooler dispenser to be very cheaply made. I cannot tell you how disappointed and cheated I feel given the selling price for this item.

My best advice to give you is to stay away from this product if your expectation is a quality product.

Way cool unit. All my friends love it too. Great conversation piece. I honestly have found that I am drinking less than I have in the past because the Argon preserves the wine so well I don't feel like I am going to waste wine. Great purchase. LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT.....

Supco Replacement for UKF8001 Refrigerator Filter, 3-Pack

Supco Replacement for UKF8001 Refrigerator Filter, 3-PackI researched the net and Amazon for the best value in a water filter for my Maytag refrigerator. The best value by far was the Aquafresh WF 295 water filter that is a replacement for the OEM Maytag UKF8001. I was able to purchase the Aquafresh filters in a three pack through Amazon from DeepDiscountco. The cost of the three pack was the best value by far and the cost per filter was less than half of the UKF8001. DeepDiscountco shipped for free and there was no tax applied. What a deal!!! The filters arrived quickly and I was surprised at how easy it was to change the filter in my Maytag. The Aquafresh filter fits and works just like the original UKF8001. The owner of DeepDiscountco sent an email thanking me for the purchase and telling me to contact him if there were any issues (there were none) with a promise of a quick resolution by make me satisfied. What more can you ask for in customer service? I don't usually take the time to write reviews but I was so very happy with this purchase I could not help but share this info with others. Aquafresh Replacement for UKF8001 Refrigerator Filter, 3-Pack

Very disappointed, less than a week after first installation I can already taste clorine in our water and ice. The original PUR filter went through 3 300 gallon cycles before I finally bought these filters and I never tasted clorine whatsoever. Live and learn, I was turned off by the cost of the PUR filters and tried to save some money. Next time I'll buy the PUR filters, but I guess I'm stuck with the clorine for two more filter replacements.

Ice Maker

Ice Maker
  • Can make up to 44-pounds of ice a day.
  • Front-breathing with automatic defrost.
  • Free standing or built-in use.
  • All stainless steel exterior.
  • Dimensions: 14 3/4"W x 33 1/2"H x 23 1/2"D.

This product does what it's designed to. make ice;however, the main reason I bought it was that there is no drain required. That's true, but if you don't have a drain, this thing has to be manually drained by you, and very often. The lower pan fills up, sometimes several times per hour and when it does you get an ear piercing alarm that doesn't go off until you manually drain the lower pan. This to me defeats the purpose of having it. Not to mention you must drain the ice bin at least twice per day and sometimes more often. If you really want a ice maker I suggest you have a drain nearby for this one, otherwise try another model/brand.

This ice machine only works for 10-18 hours before the unit creates so much frost it can't dump ice and you have to unplug it for an hour or two so it can defrost and be turned back on. It takes almost 90 minutes to make it's first batch of 12 cubes and makes another 12 45 minutes later (we timed it) in order to make one batch of margaritas for two, it takes three hours. Summit has absolutely no desire to help you after it's sold. Going to put it out at a garage sale for fifty bucks to get rid of this useless thing which would be better used as a boat anchor!
