Bosch SHX3AR76UC Ascenta 24" Black Fully Integrated Dishwasher - Energy Star

Bosch SHX3AR76UC Ascenta 24' Black Fully Integrated Dishwasher - Energy Star

My 15-year old Bosch SMU 4000 died, and the research on a popular consumer site said that the top 8 dishwashers were Bosch (including this model). I also trust the reviews on Amazon, and was surprised to see the low ratings of the Bosch dishwashers. So I looked around (in person) at the other brands available and just dreaded buying anything else but Bosch. Several of the Amazon reviews had a low rating because the capacity is lower than the piece of junk they just scrapped. It makes sense to me that to make these dishwashers quiet they probably need more insulation, and it's not possible to make the dishwasher larger on the outside, so they may sacrifice some space on the inside. I accept that trade-off gladly. I did not research to see if the smaller space claim was true, because I don't mind if I have more frequent smaller loads. I liked the layout after I used it a few times, and seems very similar to my old Bosch. And it is quiet noticeably quieter than my old one.

The Bosch reviews in Amazon are so low and the consumer reviews are so high, that it makes me wonder who is writing the Amazon reviews. In this case only, I am glad that I didn't trust them.

We're remodeling our Kitchen, and the existing dishwasher was very old with a few cracks in the door, so we replaced it. Although this is a straightforward DIY project, we had a few complications from tile work (floor and countertop) by a previous owner. The old dishwasher was tightly wedged in, and it was very difficult to fit this new Bosch into place. This is NOT a problem with the dishwasher. It fit the space more fully than the older washer, but the older washer also had heavy layers of insulation padding the exterior. There is some padding on the Bosch on the sides and top, but not as much as the old Maytag we removed.

Once we shoehorned it in, we tried it out. It is quiet, but not as remarkably quiet as some have said about Bosch. Some reviews say they could not hear it running. We could easily hear it running, but it was significantly quieter than our old one, and I'd rate it as the most quiet dishwasher I've almost not heard. I think part of the quiet design includes a more thoughtful seal around the cabinet enclosure. It looks more finished and fills the space better due to rubber trim on the sides.

It is not faster than our previous washers. Regular washes take 90 minutes, and the Sanitize mode takes a full 120 minutes. We have not timed the half load or quick rinse yet.

The first wash was relatively clean items, but we purposely did not pre-rinse items for the second wash. I used the sanitize mode, and every items was spotless. This included a pot with baked on tomato sauce, dried egg yolks, and general food grime. There is an elaborate scheme for placing silverware in the washer, but we ignored it and just placed the items in as always no issues. Subjectively, and this could be new owner's bias, the dishes and glasses 'feel' cleaner and look cleaner. I cannot quantify why.

We purposely did not use the heating element on our old dishwasher, and this one does not have an element. Some reviews commented on wet dishes, but we found that everything was dry after leaving the door open for less than five minutes. We live in the desert, and not everyone may have the same experience. The items were far drier than in our older unit with no heating element use, but I don't know if that is a function of the dishwasher or the combination of the Sanitize mode's hotter water and Jet Dry (we didn't use Jet dry before now).

Overall we consider this the best dishwasher we've owned, so I gave it five stars. Note that in this general price range for Bosch dishwashers, the mechanical is pretty much the same between the models, with most difference in design or perhaps a few add-on features.

I bought this Bosch because of its high rating in Consumer Reports. I was replacing a Kenmore that I had never liked and wanted something of high quality.

One of the problems I had with the Kenmore was that the dishes sometimes didn't get clean. Even worse, they sometimes smelled funny (the dishwasher also had a strange smell when it was running). I am thrilled to say that this Bosch is an excellent dish, glass, and utensil cleaner. It is by far the best dishwasher I've had in terms of cleaning.

Another problem I had with the Kenmore was that the dishes were never dry. After using the Sanitize setting and a rinse aid, most dishes are completely dry. The only exceptions, of course, are plastic items which don't normally dry anyway.

The Kenmore also had a horrible mold problem. I think you're beginning to understand why I hated this dishwasher so much. I asked the installer about this, and he told me I won't have the problem with the Bosch because the interior is steel, not plastic. So far he's right. I haven't noticed or smelled any mold.

It's a nice looking unit too. Sleek and aesthetically pleasing.

The only complaint I have is that the dishwasher is smaller than what I'm used to. Of course, the reason for this is the extra insulation. The dishwasher is unbelievably quiet. There have been times I've actually had to put my ear to it to make sure it's running. The Kenmore was so loud we often would not run it if we were watching TV. The dishwasher's small size is not a huge problem for me because we don't normally use lots of dishes on an everyday basis. However, there have been a couple instances when I cooked with a couple pans and used several bowls and found I needed to hold out some of the dishes for the next wash.

Still, I was so glad to see that Kenmore hauled out of my house, and I can honestly say that I love this Bosch--this is the first time I've ever said that about a dishwasher.

Summit : FF1325SS 10.4 cu. ft. Counter-Depth Top-Freezer Refrigerator - Stainless Steel Doors

Summit : FF1325SS 10.4 cu. ft. Counter-Depth Top-Freezer Refrigerator - Stainless Steel Doors
  • Adjustable Glass Shelves
  • Door Storage
  • Large Freezer Compartment
  • Interior Light
  • Fingerprint-Free Stainless Steel Doors: No Ice Maker

I purchased this fridge because I had a tiny kitchen. On a cu ft basis it is one of the most expensive fridges you can buy. I have redone 3 kitchens in the past 5 years, and have spent about $30,000 on appliances. I have never seen such poor quality. The MAIN problem is that the refrigerator slopes--the bottom is 2" further away from the wall than the top even after I adjust the legs as far into the cavity as possible--it looks like a s___ show. I called Mark Goldman (Summit customer service) to help solving the problem. First he claimed this was how the fridge was designed--the door should close slowly. I said it doesn't--it SLAMS shut. Then clearly demonstrating the design story was invalid, Mark told me I could build up my floor with shims! I said that was ridiculous for $1000 fridge (it's $300 extra for the icemaker). He said I needed proof there was a problem, so I sent an email with a photo of the slanted fridge and a photo of a 36" level on the floor to show it was level (i tried to paste photos here, but can't). Under pressure from the retailer, Summit sent a service rep. The service rep agreed the floor was level and the legs were into the cavity, so there was nothing he could do to fix the problem--that there was clearly a manufacturing or design flaw. When Summit received this information, they said since it wasn't a MANUFACTURING flaw (it was the design flaw--so ALL fridges will have the same problem), they weren't required to do anything about it. So I'm living with the problem.

As an aside, the rest of the quality is no better. the produce drawer is plastic and doesn't slide on the guides well, so soon it will break no matter how careful I am.

I relied heavily on reviews so wanted to leave one myself. Forget the model number but I got the bottom freezer, SS, icemaker, roughly 2'x6' in 2011. A lot of what I read was true: cheap drawers, after you close the frig door it gets sucked in for 10-15 seconds. Not a big deal as a 2nd unit but if it were in my main kitchen this (& the drawers perhaps) would get on my nerves at times (still if you had to have a small frig I think you can get used to it). I read where noise was a big issue. I've heard it come on but has never bothered me. If there were long spells where I was quiet in the same area then maybe; but so far I've barely noticed it. Also, very pleased w the interior space/shelf options for the room it takes up (again 2nd frig).

I've had it about 3-4 months and (knock on wood) haven't had any problems. Actually I love it since it fits perfectly and has everything I wanted: tall, thin, bottom freezer, icemaker AND counterdepth!...didn't think all that was possible. I was dubious from some negative reviews but after an exhaustive search Summit was the only brand that had all these things. If you're in the same situation then I say pull the trigger and buy it but try to work out some kind of insurance if it does fail on you or you don't like it for some reason. Good luck!

166 Bottle Wine Refrigerator with Stainless Steel Framed Door

166 Bottle Wine Refrigerator with Stainless Steel Framed Door
  • Manufactured to the Highest Quality Available.
  • Design is stylish and innovative. Satisfaction Ensured.
  • Great Gift Idea.

Nice cooler. Good price point. I like the controls and the even temperature regulation. The light and door lock are great small "details" that are quite useful. Door hinge is reversible and setup was a breeze.

My biggest issue is the drawer spacing...barely deep enough to accommodate the slightly thicker bottles that seem to dominate the market these days. To access the back of the drawer, the bottles in the front of the drawer get scraped right across the label. If the front row of bottles is turned sideways to keep the label from peeling off, they can't be read. What a nuisance! Needs about 1 more inch of drawer spacing to jump to an excellent rating.

Cooler was delivered to curbside, despite paying $300 for alleged "white glove delivery." Cooler was delivered defective. Plugged in and allowed appropriate time to cool down, however after 12 hours we discovered that the temperature controls did not work. Can not adjust temperature down. Only the UP button works. Called Amazon and were told to contact vendor. Vendor first told us to return in orginal packing with a Fed Ex label. Cooler weighs 275 pounds and was delivered by truck freight! Then they told us to get it fixed under warranty or accept a refurbished cooler if it could not be fixed. Totally UNACCEPTABLE to ask us to repair or exchange a brand new cooler for reburbished when we paid for a new product. Vendor does not accept responsiblity for their product. Product in general cheap construction. One stainless steel side panel dented and sharp spur on handle. BOTTOM LINE: DO NOT BUY FROM THIS VENDOR OR THIS PRODUCT. WE ARE VERY SORRY WE DID.

This is a great purchase! Not only do my wines stay a consistent 54 degress but it looks very classy and cool. You do need to maneuver some of the larger bottles but they usually fit if you pull the shelf out all the way or put the big ones (champagne, etc) on the top or bottom shelf. All in all, I am VERY happy with this fabulous wine fridge.

Frigidaire Commercial 19.4 Cu. Ft., FSG, Freezer (FCFS201LFB)

Frigidaire Commercial 19.4 Cu. Ft., FSG, FreezerPossibly Frigidaire has remedied the issue by now, but ours would build up ice in the defrost drain tray and eventually require a manual defrost. The solution was cheap and simple, insulate the metal shield which covers the defrost drain area to allow the defrost heater to work properly. I used some foil bubble material expressly for this purpose, and affixed it to both sides of the shield. Unfortunately, Frigidaire tech support did not have a clue, and suggested to move the defrost drain "trap" closer to where it exits on the rear. This was NOT an effective fix! Otherwise a great heavy-duty appliance with no fancy computer-board driven controls to go bad. Also be aware this is designed for a commercial setting, i.e. not all that silent as the typical domestic home refrigerator or freezer. BTW, the Amazon description is incorrect, this is a freezer, not a refrigerator.

Where to start let's see... I am only writing this to prevent people from the headaches I had to deal with. I purchased this freezer because it was supposed to be commercial grade, but this freezer does not even stand up to regular residential use. The first one I purchased last year and about 2 months into using it, the freezer started to make a loud rattling sound part way into the motor running. It sounded like someone was using an industrial compressor next door to us. I called the manufacturer for help and was given some names of repair men; I called a few but only had 1 response. When he finally came to look at the freezer, it was not making the sound at that point so he made some "fan adjustments" and told me to call him if it kept doing it. 20 min after he left it started again, so I called him and he never returned my call nor came back. Frustrated with the situation I called costco explained what happened and they picked up the faulty freezer and I purchased a second freezer thinking it was just a fluke; however last Friday I ran into another problem. I came home from work that night to hear the freezer making 2 funny clicking sounds every 10 min or so, similar to the sound it makes when going into auto defrost. I opened the freezer and found the temp sitting around 28, way above 0. I was livid; I cranked up the freezer to 10 to see if it would make a difference. I checked about an hour later and there was no difference, the freezer was not getting colder, only the fan was running. It was now 10:30pm and had no choice but to try and save whatever was salvageable from the freezer. I stuck what I could in my little freezer and tried calling 3 other people to see what space they had. I ran around till 1am putting things into friends freezers, but still lost around 500$ in product. The one shocker I found when I was emptying out the freezer was a melted plastic lid to a glass jar I had on the top shelf of the freezer up against the stainless steel plate. How does something melt in the freezer is my question. Third time will not be a charm; I will be looking for another make all together. I later tried to contact Electrolux/Frigidaire to let them know about the faulty products and this was their response, and by the way their warranty gets them out of covering anything:

"Thank you for contacting Electrolux Appliances.

We have sent you the manual explaining what the warranty does not cover. Please find it attached and kindly read page 11. If your unit is not yet fixed, please contact under warranty the following servicer to fixe it: Transglobal 1-800-360-2742.

Beverage Center- Black

Beverage Center- Black
  • 42 Can (12 oz.) or 17 Bottle Capacity
  • Features: Double Panel Amber Tinted Flat Glass Door with Black Cabinet & Trim
  • Work Top; 3 Full Width Black Vinyl Coated Wire Shelves
  • Recessed Handle; Adjustable Thermostat; Reversible Door; Auto-Defrost; Removable Lower Bottle Rack
  • Flat Back; Adjustable Leveling Legs

this product never worked. I bought it, plugged it in, it tried to go, and it conked out. In addition to not working, there is NO WAY 17 bottles will fit. My roommate and I spent 15 minutes trying all different configurations, and the max we could get in was 14 and that was a bit scary. The bottom section (where the cans are shown) isn't deep enough for wine to go straight back, and will only fit 2-3 (3 very shaky) bottles sideways on each.

Ice Maker

Ice Maker
  • Can make up to 44-pounds of ice a day.
  • Front-breathing with automatic defrost.
  • Free standing or built-in use.
  • All stainless steel exterior.
  • Dimensions: 14 3/4"W x 33 1/2"H x 23 1/2"D.

This product does what it's designed to. make ice;however, the main reason I bought it was that there is no drain required. That's true, but if you don't have a drain, this thing has to be manually drained by you, and very often. The lower pan fills up, sometimes several times per hour and when it does you get an ear piercing alarm that doesn't go off until you manually drain the lower pan. This to me defeats the purpose of having it. Not to mention you must drain the ice bin at least twice per day and sometimes more often. If you really want a ice maker I suggest you have a drain nearby for this one, otherwise try another model/brand.

This ice machine only works for 10-18 hours before the unit creates so much frost it can't dump ice and you have to unplug it for an hour or two so it can defrost and be turned back on. It takes almost 90 minutes to make it's first batch of 12 cubes and makes another 12 45 minutes later (we timed it) in order to make one batch of margaritas for two, it takes three hours. Summit has absolutely no desire to help you after it's sold. Going to put it out at a garage sale for fifty bucks to get rid of this useless thing which would be better used as a boat anchor!

SquareTrade 3-Year Appliance Protection Plan (Below $50)

SquareTrade 3-Year Appliance Protection PlanWe have several SquareTrade warranties, but have never had to make a claim until now. We have an immersion blender, and it stopped working. The blender was still under the manufacturer's warranty period, and since the cost of shipping to the manufacturer plus the fee the manufacturer asked for was almost the cost of the blender, I figured we were out of luck. But I contacted SquareTrade, and they approved my claim and are sending me the cost of the blender. And all it took was one email, a quick online form and one phone call.

Thankfully I have not had to use this warranty yet. But going by the reviews and their reputation this is the way to go. The only con would be that this takes effect AFTER the manufacturers warranty has expired and that the protection plan STARTS at the time of product purchase.
