We recently bought this little freezer. It fits neatly under the counter and runs so quietly it makes our 7 yr older fridge/freezer sound like a wheezing dinosaur.

Each drawer sits on it's own freeze plate, so the middle drawers are cooled top and bottom. The average temp is as advertised with the bottom drawer slightly warmer than the others but still frozen.

Well, I hate to write this review in Amazon because I LOVE amazon. I buy here a lot and 99% of the times I'm 100% happy. I hardly leave feedback, unless an item "needs" it.

The good the freezer

This freezer is exactly what we needed:

Small in size will fit under almost any counter or extend your counter for additional surface.

Has drawers you cannot underestimate that wonderful accessibility to your frozen stuff.

The Bad Packaging and shipping:

It is not related to the freezer quality (I will update my feedback in few months) but:

I received the first freezer three days ago. Fedex left it in front of my door. While looking at the box, I noticed few holes in the (Avanti's original not amazon's) carton.

I opened the box carefully and discover few dents on the side of the freezer. In addition, the freezer couldn't hold itself straight, it was rocking like a seesaw. I opened the freezer door and one (plastic) drawer was broken.

I called Amazon (who fulfilled the item). Amazon offered 20% refund if I'll keep the item or a full refund and a free return shipping. I said I needed the freezer, so they offered me to buy it again and they will give me free one day shipping for the new freezer.

I agreed.

BTW, the box was wrapped with white plastic stripes. When you cut those stripes, the bottom part detaches from the rest of the box.

Today, the new freezer was waiting for me again. FedEx delivery again. A hole in the box again. Two dents on the side of the freezer.

When I opened the box I've also found that a small piece was broken out of the a hard Styrofoam that protects the inner pipes.

Called Amazon again.

I settled for the 20% discount although I should have returned it. I needed the freezer for this weekend and I couldn't find it anywhere else (offline).

I might have returned if I had known for certain that on the third time it will arrive in a "new" condition (this is why I gave it this only two stars think carefully if you would like to have the same experience as me with this freezer).

I think FedEx is also to blame for this fiasco. They were careless. no doubt about that. It never happened to me with UPS (and I bought MANY MANY appliances and stuff online), but happened before with FedEx.

I will keep you updated about how it functioning I had to take some steam out.

1 star down because it is noisy. It could be due to the fact that my freezer has some dents from the delivery (other people say that it is quiet).

More points:

-The bottom drawer do not freeze as well as the top three drawers (use level 5 and not 3-4 as recommended).

-it fits perfectly under the counter great addition to any kitchen.

Drawers are great. it is extremly easy to access your frozen foods.

I've just notices that it is not the same seller that I bought from (it used to be a different one and it was fullfiled by Amazon) so maybe you will have a different experience with the shipping.

Was really looking forward to getting this neat little freezer. Alas, shipper was Fed Ex, and like the poor woman above the freezer arrived damaged with a big dent in the left side panel lower rear corner. Also, there was a loose 8 inch long metal tube with a plastic tube inserted in it rolling around in one of the drawers. The plastic tube obviously had been cut and was sticking out of the metal tube about 1/4 in. I plugged the freezer in and it seemed to work, got good and cold. Wife wanted to keep it. I might have except for the metal tube of unknown origins and whether it was necessary for the freezer to last and why it was loose in the drawer. Also, when I buy something I like to get that something undamaged. Is that asking too much? So, disappointed, I returned it. Amazon said I would be contacted about replacing it but never heard anything. Maybe when they get it back. Never got an offer of 20% off like the other reviewer. I probably would have taken it.

We purchased this freezer for laboratory storage over a year ago. The original freezer lasted about 7 months before breaking down. It took us months of calling and paper work (and a $10 service fee) for the company to finally honor their warranty. When we got the replacement, it lasted about two months before it also broke down. This was not a problem with our electrical circuits since several freezers from other companies have been functioning from the same set of sockets for over three years. When we tried to go through the cumbersome replacement procedure again, after hours of being on hold and numerous ignored emails, we were told that our warranty had expired. This is inexcusable for two reasons -it took us months to get our first replacement (lost time) AND the replacement they sent us was defective. It would seem that the honorable business practice would be to provide an equivalent warranty for the replacement (unless, of course, you knew that it too was defective -something I would not put past this ridiculous operation). In summary, the product is awful and the customer service is even worse. STAY AWAY!!!!

The first unit was "Dead On Arrival" and had to be returned. The vendor responded in excellent fashion and replaced the original with one that works well, even though it has a couple of minor blemishes. The main drawback of this freezer are the drawers that rest on shelves that cannot be adjusted. The drawers are very convenient for accessing the items within, but they limit the freezer's storage options. If an item doesn't fit in one of the four drawers, it can't fit into the freezer---it's that simple. It's good for small items, and serves the purpose for which I purchased it, but don't count on putting larger items in this freezer.

I put this in a $20K+ outdoor kitchen I built for a customer. I liked it because it had actual stainless steel on the door versus many that have a sticker that tries to look like stainless.

The compact refrigerator stopped working five months after purchasing it. Supposedly, there is a one-year warranty, however SPT will not accept Amazon's invoice as proof of purchase. In other words, SPT will not honor their warranty, or they purposely are making it very hard for me to get this item replaced or repaired. I am very dissatisfied with SPT's warranty. I will never buy another product made by SPT.

As of the time of this review I've had this fridge for six months now and it's worked very well at keeping all the food inside cool.

I had a Sanyo mini-fridge for about six years which I managed to break (completely my fault) and needed a replacement. What led me back to SPT/Sunpentown was a mini-freezer of theirs I bought back in 2010 which ended up being a fantastic buy. As this fridge was also roughly the same dimensions and same exterior design as the freezer I ended up stacking them and they look somewhat like one unit.

But back to the fridge, it works well, looks nice on the exterior, but whoever designed the interior didn't really know what they were doing.

1) I really don't like the shelving units being mesh, and would've preferred solid panes of plastic that slid in and out.

2) The can holder on the side door is completely useless. If you try to drop cans in there they just fly out the bottom, or worse, get stuck because it has this awkward wave design to it.

3) The lower level of the side door has a compartment to store bottles, but it can't even handle more than one two liter bottle. There just isn't enough space (but my old Sanyo, which was less cubic feet could store two, 2-liter bottles side by side on its side door lower compartment).

4) The side door lower compartment is held in with a flimsy piece of metal that clips into two holes on the side, such that if you leave anything heavy in there and open the door to quickly, it'll tip over and sometimes the metal clip will pop out.

So yeah, the fridge works and I bought it primarily because my SPT/Sunpentown freezer has served me very well over the years, but the interior layout, especially the door, is a disaster.

Emerson 8 Bottle Wine Cooler

I only drink on average one bottle of wine per week: one glass per day over four or five days (I preserve the rest of it using a VacuVin or the Private Preserve system) and also buy relatively inexpensive wines that don't require long aging. So this 8-bottle wine cooler from Emerson is perfect for me; it also keeps me on a budget I am limited to having only eight bottles of wine at any one time.

The unit itself is attractive and seems to be well-built. The packaging is also pretty sturdy. There are two metal racks that hold 4 standard (burgundy or bordeaux) bottles each, and be aware that long riesling or oversized Champagne bottles won't fit. Also, unlike some other wine coolers, you can't squeeze in more bottles by taking out the shelves and stacking bottles on top of one another. You're pretty much limited to 8.

This cooler operates on the thermoelectric method (also known as the Peltier effect look it up on Wikipedia), meaning there is no compressor and the only moving part is a fan to circulate air. There are three buttons on the front handle: one to turn on and off the led light inside, one to turn up the temperature in one-degree increments, and one to turn down the temperature in similar increments. Each time you press any of the buttons, a digital thermometer lights up to show you the internal temperature. When you press either the up or down temperature button, the thermometer also lights up to show you the desired temperature you have selected.

When I first plugged this in, the thermometer was in the mid 70's. I set it for 57 degrees and it took about 4 hours or so for it to get to that point. I've had this cooler for over a month now, and every time I check the temperature it is 57 degrees. The room it is in gets pretty warm, like to the low-mid 80's but so far this little unit has managed to maintain a constant temperature. If you keep opening and closing the door or changing wines, of course the temperature is going to vary but since I rarely open it (just once per week to get my wine of the week, and then when I add wines to it), the temperature doesn't vary.

So far I am quite happy with this product. It is totally inadequate if you are trying to build a wine collection, but if you need something small just to hold your wines at the right temperature, this fits the bill very nicely.

Addendum: It has been about three months since I purchased this (I actually purchased another one a few weeks after the 1st one). I bought a couple of digital thermometers to compare their readings with the built-in ones. The built-in thermometers say 57 degrees 99% of the time, whereas the readings on the digital standalone thermometers show readings that vary from the mid 58-degree to high 60-degree range. I live in Southern California and it's been ridiculously hot this summer the ambient temperature in the room where these are located gets up to 86 or 87 degrees until I get home from work and turn on the air conditioner, so under the circumstances, I think these units are performing well. I don't want to turn down the thermostat on them because I feel that will be too much of a strain. I'm happy with a level of 58-60 during the hot summer. Just thought I should share this update with readers, though the built-in does not agree with the standalone temperature readings.

The manual said that it would reach the desired temperature (45 degrees for white wine) in 4 hours if fully stocked.I had 8 bottles of white wine in it. After 4 days it only got to 63 degrees. I had bought it new thru Amazon from a company called Discount Jungle.It turns out that it had been made in 2007 and most likely returned but not repaired. Amazon should not be dealing with this low grade outfit.

I got a replacement after having to pay to ship it back the non working unit only to have the replacement also made 7 years ago and not cooling also. Called Emerson Company who told me that the model had been discontinued because it was defective. That Discount Jungle was not authorized to sell their products. ARE YOU LISTENING AMAZON!

This is a good item for the price. It holds 8 bottles of wine and has a small footprint (although it is deeper than I expected). The fridge keeps ithe set temperature fairly well. I have noticed some fluctuation when putting new bottles in that are room temp. It stabilizes though once it brings everything down to temperature.

I would advise potential buyers to ensure there is enough clearance between the back and a wall so the fan can get proper ventilation. Also remember to clean the filter periodically.

Great deal: I fixed my refrigerator for $110.00. Just for additional peace of mind I used a plastic foam between this Control Board and the Refrigerator since the original board short circuited on the sheet metal refrigerator enclosure. The old board also did not have a grounding wire which the new board has. I guess there was a problem with short circuiting, so they improved the circuit board and added the ground wire.

Newer models come with the insulating plastic between the circuit board & the Sheet metal as well.

My Fridge works like new now.

I couldn't believe Amazon had this part for my side by side! I installed this and within 30 min my refrigeration was making ice and dispensing again.

We bought the board to replace the broken one in our GE refrigerator. This is the 2nd time it happened because the product (board) design is defective and we expect it won't last long this time again. This is a well documented problem on the web and there is recall by GE. We called GE and they admitted the problem and recall but claimed that our unit's serial number and date are out of the recall range (a similar situation on my Saab 9-5 recently). The part arrived fast and we are happy with that aspect at least.

The only reason I'm reviewing this is to help educate those who are thinking of ordering this kit. If you are one of them, then your fridge isn't working and you probably realize your relay and overload component is bad. Many forums help you diagnose the relay/overload unit. Mine sounded like a rattle when I shook it, had a burnt mark on one lead slot and had little black ceramic pieces falling out of it. The fridge/freezer wouldn't cool, the compressor wasn't running and the compressor was very hot when touched.

After realizing that my part number is replaced by this kit, I was a bit curious as to how it would all work due to the many parts which are displayed in the picture. Once I opened the kit, there is a set of directions with photos and all the parts shown in the above picture. The kit basically comes with four relay/overload setups for four different groups of refrigerators. You won't use all the parts. If you are lucky like me and one of the two shown in the picture look identical to the one you are replacing, then you can do a like for like swap ("combo relay"). One is used if there is an EGY80 in the compressor model, while the other is used if there is an EGY90. These are the ones with the long plastic finger to hold the start capacitor in place. If yours looks different (no finger), then you will have to do a pieced together rebuild ("discrete") using the remaining parts and jumper cable. Again, an EGY80 will have you use one overload part, while the EGY90 will have you use the other. The small relay (black part) is then used for both with the jumper cable. The exposed rebuild is then covered with the black plastic cover shown in the picture. If you used one of the combo units, all these other parts are not used at all.

Therefore, you may be lucky and simply have to buy this whole kit to get one of its parts, or you will have to put together a few of the parts in order to replace your old single part. In the end, the kit should work if your original part number is included in the list. The directions will help you figure out which part or parts you should use and how to put them all together.

One other thing, I believe my relay might have burned out because I had never cleaned the grate under the fridge for over 7 years. There sure was a lot of dust in there when I pulled off the front bottom cover. I vacuumed and blew it all out from the front and back. The fan next to the compressor needs to be able to draw air through the grate in order to operate the fridge. When covered with dust, the fridge works much harder. Now that I cleaned the grate and replaced the relay, the fridge now works better than it did before it broke. I have to remember to clean it every 6 months. By the way, my fridge had two hidden papers folded up inside the back of the plastic grill on the front bottom of the fridge. There are part numbers, electrical diagrams and resistance ratings for key components. I wish I had known it was there to begin with.

I have a Whirlpool Conquest fridge that is about 10 years old. The fridge made a clicking sound every 20 seconds or so and the fridge did not automatically shut off. This is because the compressor did not turn on to cool the fridge. After doing some research, the problem was a bad compressor relay. This relay is plugged on the compressor with 3 or 4 wires connected to it. After removing and inspecting the relay, the part smelled like burnt ceramic.

This kit has relays for different compressors. At first, I was confused because my bad relay did not look anything like in the picture and was hesitant on ordering this kit. Installing the new relay is simple. The instructions included will tell you which relay to use. To find the model of your compressor, there is a sticker, near the relay, with the model number on the compressor.

I have used the small black, one of the small white, one wire and the black cover. Anybody who has bought this kit and has those parts left over, please let me know. I am assuming we both have parts that we don't need and I'm willing to do a trade so it will both save us time and money if this relay goes bad again in the future.

It's hard to add more info beyond the very well written reviews already posted by J. Swingler, S. Tauchi and others. However, I'll try in the effort to create more hits for search engines to bring people here to buy these parts. The kit sold on Amazon is the same kit sold by appliance sites, but far cheaper. The kits are shipped VERY quickly, too (even without Amazon Prime).

As others have said, don't be mislead by the fact that the kit has lots of parts in it even though you only seem to have one bad part. The kit covers MANY different refrigerators. It is apparently based on the compressor used. Many refrigerator manufacturers use the same compressors.

Here are some of the brands that "may" use this relay kit: Whirlpool, Kenmore, Crosley, Estate, Kitchen Aid, Roper, Magic Chef, Maytag, Admiral, Amana. Contact your refrigerator manufacturer to find out what start device part number they recommend. Or, take off your start device (pictures and instructions can be found on many appliance forums) and look at the part number, then see below.

This kit sold by Amazon replaces the following "Start Relay" part numbers: 2188829, 2188830, 2188832, 2188833, 2188844, 2188845, 2188846, 2188847, 2212193, 2212194, 2216697, 2216722, 2220474, 2220475, 2220476, 2220477, 8201531, 8201532. There may be others, too. Check with your fridge manufacturer.

A bit of background on mine: It is a 2003 Kenmore Coldspot, part number 106.53659300. This refrigerator is made by Whirlpool (as are all Kenmore refrigerators starting with number 106). I have owned it since new and it always ran great. Then, in a one week time period, I had intermittent instances of ice cream melting, then getting hard again. One day, the ice cream melted and did not recover. A few hours later, the ice in the ice storage bin started to melt and my ice maker began spilling out water. The fridge seemed to be staying cold, at first, so I thought it was a problem with the defrost circuit. I looked at the bimetal defrost thermostat behind the metal panel inside the freezer, but that was fine. That's when I knew there was a bigger problem.

Thanks to the power of the internet, I found many helpful forums describing this problem. IMPORTANT: Several forums recommended that if your refrigerator is doing this, don't leave it plugged in. You might ruin the compressor or start a fire. Move your food to another fridge or several ice chests.

After I removed the bottom cardboard cover from the back, I found that the compressor was VERY hot to the touch. I unplugged the fridge for about 10 minutes to reset it, then plugged it in again. I heard a click, some quiet humming, then another click. The compressor never came on. The cooling fan was running, which was a plus. However, I've never seen so much pet hair build-up in my life! I have a dog and two cats and keep my house clean, but never thought about cleaning under the fridge. BIG mistake! There was literally zero air flow. I took off the lower front cover, too, then used a long wand on the vacuum to get the worst hair. However, to get it perfect, I had to use a small brush on a long handle and some compressed air, then vacuum again. It ended up looking like new.

I removed the parts from the left side of the compressor. In my case, they were only held on by a long, bendy metal clip. Just pop that clip off, unplug the wire harness, then pull the white/tan plastic box to the left away from the compressor. On my refigerator, there was also a square, black capacitor that came away with the assembly. This was a 5-minute job. Super easy!

The two-tone white and tan plastic box on my refrigerator is a combo start relay and overload device. It was TOAST! Literally. I'm kind of surprised there wasn't an electrical fire. It was charred black inside and stunk of burnt electrical bits. It rattled inside when I shook it. I decided to pry the halves apart. There was nothing left inside but little bits of charred debris.

Although the sealed black capacitor looked fine to me, several forum posts recommended replacing it at the same time. Since it is not in this kit, I ordered it seperately. Amazon has it for only $22. I figured that was cheap insurance.

All of the parts arrived very quickly! Then it only took 5-minutes to install them. One forum I read was posted by a single mom who didn't have the money for a repair. She chose to take a chance on this kit and was overjoyed at the low cost and the ease of installation. I have to agree. This easily saved me $150 in labor and it requires almost no mechanical experience. If you can operate a screwdrive and plug things in, you can do this repair. Just be careful to follow the instructions and compare the parts you have to the model number on the compressor. Another thing that's helpful is the color of the dot on the start device. The one that I took off had an orange dot. The one I put back on had an orange dot. That is what was required for my compressor.

End result, my compressor fired right up and all is well. Thanks to all who wrote good reviews and to Amazon marketplace vendors who sold the parts for a fair price and shipped them immediately.

Before you purchase this kit be sure your compressor is a Embraco. This is not made to run Tecumseh compressor's.

If you have a Tecumseh.... you may need a new Embraco. Look up that Tecumseh model number. I found that mine had a history of getting warm and stopping. It starts easily once cooled down but as it ran it would stop running again. Bad bearings inside causes this problem, so I was told.
