So far, this freezer has proved to be an excellent addition to our home. All our apartment had was a mini-fridge with a small freezer box in the very top, so we got this small freezer to accompany it.

It was very easy to set up, and there are clear directions for switching which direction the door opens, which we did. It makes only a bit of noise, and is actually quieter than I would have expected. We initially had it set to the recommended temperature setting, but have since changed it since that was too cold. It works very well, and we have had no problems with it. Well worth the price.

Freezer was double packed, took some time to "release" it from the packaging, but I was glad to see how well it was protected. Freezer works very well, but the motor mechanism takes up a significant portion of the inside cubic space. The most positive aspect was the very fast shipping time; it arrived several days before expected. Finding the temperature adjustment dial took some time; it is located on the back of the unit (which makes it a bit difficult when you need to adjust it) and hard to see.

This is only for people who need a "little" extra freezing space like singles or apartment renters. Does an excellent job but does not hold much food.

I find the description of the capacity as being 1.6 cubic feet very misleading. A part of the compressor occupies about half of that space, making the usable space just 0.8 cubic feet. I called the company to ask about this, and they told me the industry standard is to calculate "net capacity" as any internal space, whether it is usable or not. What possible good does that do a consumer?

To my mind, this is a 0.8 cubic foot freezer, not 1.6. Beware.

We bought this freezer for use in the lab, where we need a small desktop unit for temporary storage. It will be opened frequently (~every 3-4 minutes) and needs keep vials below -20 degrees C (about -1 degrees F). A larger freezer is used for long-term storage.

Out of the box:

This unit cooled to -20C in less than one hour at setting 5 of 5. It stabilized to -24.2C after another 18 hours at setting 4 and a shoebox full of gel bags to freeze. It easily maintains -20C even when the door is opened frequently.

It is very quiet!

Possible cons for some uses:

-This is a SMALL freezer.

-The manual states that the freezer will not restart automatically after the unit is unplugged, turned off or after a power outage. It seems that it has to be restarted manually after a 3-5 minute delay. This could be a serious problem where power outages are frequent, when valuable items could warm without warning even after brief outages.

I am a research buff and read over 300 reviews on refrigerators. I wanted one at work to keep my drinks and food cold. Many reviews stated that this unit does not get cold enough. I beg to differ. This refrigerator gets colder than I can keep it. I have to lower the temp to a lower setting so my drinks won't freeze. I really like this unit a lot. It is small enough to hide under my desk and even behind my desk in the corner. No one really knows that I have one at work. Danby may make nice refrigerators, and price-wise, their strongest competition seems to be Haier and Avanti, especially for compact fridge for use in dorm/offices.

Now, my previous personal fridge was a Haier which lasted for a good 2 1/2 years, but it suddenly died one day and I needed a quick replacement. I used it primarily for storing drinks and snacks, so I didn't need one that was "freezing" cold.

I did my fair share of research, and landed on this deal directly from amazon.

The problem with getting compact fridges shipped is the packaging. Note, this unit essentially has none, aside for a half inch thin "padding" of styrofoam on each side. It is shipped directly in its retail package, and a lot of people have noted that some shipped fridges arrive DOA due to the damage during shipping, so my suggestion is to reduce time it takes to ship as much as your budget allows. Luckily, this Danby is lightweight, and though the box look a bit beat up, the unit itself is in fine working order so far.

Another problem is the temperature. I haven't measured it directly, but it is true that it may not be cold enough for medical purposes, and anything other than storing refreshments for that matter. I expect dairy (e.g. milk) would be okay, but if opened frequently the unit seems to get warm fairly easily. It does get colder after around 24 hrs after the unit has turned on.

The inside has a strong "factory" odor to it, and it takes some time to get rid of, but not a major problem. There is also a light that comes on when the door opens, which is a plus factor.

For the price range, this makes a great personal beverage cooler which was exactly what I needed, but I suspect that it may not be cold enough for some (as others have noted). If you need a fridge that needs to be colder, look for a unit that has a small freezer section up top; they tend get much colder than this Danby. Good luck!

This is NOT a refrigerator in the sense that most people think of. It does not have freon or a compressor it and will not actually cool anything. It is a thermoelectric fridge and will only go 10 degrees below room temp. (Information I learned after arguing with Danby that the product was broken because it never actually got cool.) You are better of putting ice in a cooler. Do not waste your time or money if you are actually looking for a compact fridge that will keep items cool.

Sadly the fridge was returned, it wouldn't get cold enough for our needs, 48degrees and fluxuated between 47 and 48, we needed it as a baby formula preservation system in our nursery, just isnt cold enough for that, or anything else I can think of needing a fridge for.

I purchased this wine cooler (on-line) because its features and size matched what I was looking for at a reasonable price. And, all but a few of the reviews I could find were favorable. However, when I did receive the wine cooler and found the right door to be misaligned (could not open), I called Avanti. Their response was that this was not repairable (it was, initially, simply a bent bottom hinge) and that it was my responsibility to ship it back (would be +/$150). I called the place that sold me the wine cooler and they set up a service call to have an Avanti authorized contractor check the cooler. This was late June, 2012. To make a long and frustrating story short, Avanti did not ship the necessary parts to repair the cooler until mid October (2012). Even then, the only reason the cooler now works is that the service tech went beyond the call of duty to take the right door apart to repair its wiring (Avanti had said the door was a sealed unit). I will say that the cooler is working just fine and meets my expectations. However, if something goes wrong during the remaining warranty or extended warranty (what a waste of money!) period I'll probably just dump the cooler and buy a higher end model locally.

I bought mine locally because I heard of terrible service, but this was the only one I could afford. I love it. It is still working great aside from one LED light not working but I haven't tried to replace it. I love having dual zone. I'm not sure that the colder zone really gets as cold as it says, but on the other hand..no one complains that the beer is hot.

When our actuator snapped into two pieces last week, I found this to be the most reasonably-priced replacement on the web. BUT, since it still means spending $70, I held off and went to Home Depot and spent 20 minutes comparing different plastic-fusing glues. I went with Henkel 681925 Loctite 0.07-Ounce Super Glue Plastic Bonder, which is also sold here on amazon.com

Following the instructions (applying the primer on both surfaces, waiting for 60 seconds and then applying the glue sparingly on one of the two surfaces you want fused together), I added another thin bead of glue to the joint then carefully held the two pieces together with blue masking tape. I left the tape on for about 24 hours, and it's been five days since and the glued together pieces are staying put. Feels like it never broke. Of course, our house has no kids--just my husband and I so we don't really slam the glass against the lever, which is something kids could easily do.

Note: I left the the actuator on the freezer door which means I did not need to use any tools (it broke where the top of the clear and black lever tapers off suddenly narrows but thickens towards the top).

Part was delivered quickly and worked as anticipated. Install was a half hour job, hardest part as other reviews stated was getting water hose line back in properly. Otherwise a fairly easy do it yourself project.

This part was challenting to replace it on our Frigidaire refrigerator but I think it was worth the savings. My husband and I watched internet video which was very helpful. It took 2 hrs. Due to the design, it was difficult to get into replacement area. We woud do it again.
