LG 5231JA2006A Refrigerator Water Filter

LG 5231JA2006A Refrigerator Water FilterAfter reading the debate here about the original "A" filter and the newer "B" filter, I called LG.

They stated there is absolutely no difference in the two filters, as far as performance and filtering capabilities.

This is LG's discontinued 5231JA2006A, NOT the current 5231JA2006B. I replaced my older filter when this arrived from Amazon and it works, but the current version is an improvement over this one. The problem with this filter is the price they are demanding for a discontinued product. I paid way too much for this filter as it is inferior to the current item that is available on the market. Unfortunately, the vendor doesn't make it clear exactly which filter one is purchasing, since the current product's item number appears in parentheses here on Amazon (and, as I recall, on the vendor's website). I recommend finding the current filter and paying the few extra dollars as it is superior to this one.

UPDATE:

Unfortunately, Amazon often compiles reviews for identically-titled, though slightly different products, so it is sometimes difficult to identify the exact product/vendor being reviewed. The product I reviewed above was marketed -and purchased -as the LG 5231JA2006B, but I received the discontinued filter. My review then appeared under both product listings on Amazon for some reason. The vendor was a third party vendor (not fulfilled by Amazon), and I don't recall exactly which vendor it was. The lesson here is to be careful not only about the product one purchases, but to identify how and by whom the purchase is fulfilled. I have since purchased the current (and correct) filter a number of times on Amazon and am very happy with it.

I researched these filers over a year ago when I was hunting for the cheapest place to purchase a replacement. The "A" model is not discontinued, it just doesn't filter out as much as the "B" model does. So if you are looking for a filter that meets ANSI 42 standards this will do just fine. If you want a better filter that meets ANSI 42 and 53, then go with the more expensive B model. It really depends on the water you are filtering as everyones water from the tap will be different. I have purchased both filters from discountfilterstore.com with excellent service and their website provides the breakdown of particulates filtered for each model. Don't take everyone lines of something being discontinued. They wouldn't still be selling them years later if they were discontinued.

This is an original equipment filter from LG who makes the Kenmore refrigerator that it also fits. The only difference between this and the Kenmore filter that came with the Sears Kenmore refrigerator, is that I noticed where Kenmore had placed a stick on label over the LG name name and stock number. When I removed it can you guess what I discovered? Of course you can, the LG name and number. Sears is trying to make an extra $20 on each replacement filter that an uninformed consumer purchases. Congratulations you are now an informed consumer and smarter than they are!!!!

5231JA2006B (or LG LT600P)is the newer and BETTER replacement filter for 5231JA2006A, and is only about $45. This seller is trying to make a killing selling the "original/old filter" to people who don't know any better. This older filter is only about $35 at most sites that still have it for sale.

Engel MR040 Portable AC/DC 12 Volt fridge-freezer (40qt)

Engel MR040 Portable AC/DC 12 Volt fridge-freezerI bought this freezer so that I can freeze meats and make ice when I'm camping or on my vacant, undeveloped land. I've been traveling with it for the last month or so, and I can say it works great. It'll freeze a bottle of water over night, and is also cold enough to freeze meats. I've run it off of AC, in my car (plugged into the cigarette lighter), and also off a 12V deep cycle battery, and has worked consistently from all power sources. It'll work just fine even in the heat, especially at the highest setting. At night, or if it's cool, you might be fine using a lower setting and save some power.

The only downside is its weight, but the handles are sturdy enough that you won't have to worry about carrying it around (hopefully with someone else's help).

I am happy with Engel MR040F-U1 after my first month of use in a van-camping environment with 117 VAC. "Engel" is German for "Angel", it is designed in Japan, and the compressor has only one moving part, the piston; that is fewer moving parts to wear out, less energy-loss to friction and heat, and more energy-efficient operation. Mine is holding a fairly steady 33F degrees on my wireless refrigerator/freezer thermometer. The top is a good table surface for cooking with my cool-on-the-outside rice cooker. I sleep with my head cushioned against the compressor end, so when it cycles on, I hear the hum and feel the vibration. Sawafuji, the Japanese company, is existing from year 1908, and after 100 years of operation, in year 2008, have introduced this lightweight dentand rust-proof plastic-exterior model among their regular steel-exterior models.

I just purchased an Engel MR040 fridge/freezer based on the companies' reputation and consumer reviews of Engel. Product looks very durable and cools quickly and relatively quietly.

I bought the unit to install in the cuddy of my boat, to be fixed mounted with the Engel transit slide mount.

Following the instructions that came with the transit slide mount I removed the rubber corner protectors and installed the 4 round mounting feet.

Problems -

The problem is that on the compressor side of the unit the round feet come in contact with bolt heads on the bottom of the unit, and the round feet will not sit flush against the bottom of the unit. I fixed that by notching the feet so that they would clear the bolt heads.

Also, one of the bolts that secures the round feet the unit on the compressor side when tightened makes contact with something inside the unit causing a loud noise from the fan (since the rubber corners were removed I could see that the head of the bolt was touching something inside the unit so I removed that foot and the noise went away so I inserted a spacer between the bolt head and the foot and secured the foot to the unit and now the foot is secure and not contacting the compressor and the fan noise went away.

Engel needs their tech guys try to put together the MR040 with the transit slide so they can address these problems.

The fix could be prenotching the round feet and supply shorter bolts to attach the round feet.

I am not so impressed that I had to re-engineer the fridge, since I spent a lot of money for it, and I'm sure that other not so "handy" buyers would not been able to figure out how to do what I did.

Swift Green Filters SGF-LA22-3 Refrigerator Water Filter, 3-Pack

Swift Green Filters SGF-LA22-3 Refrigerator Water Filter, 3-PackI replaced my previous filter with this last week and so far it has been great. After installing the filter, the first 1 2 gallons of water comes through in blue to murky color (I was familiar with murky previously but the blue color surprised me.) After that it has been working just fine. No noticeable taste.

These filters work great in our LG refrigerator with no problems for a lot less than the LG replacement. I just hope that they do what they say they do reducing Atrazine, Lindane, Lead, Turbidity, and Cysts. This is the major reason why I purchase these filters.

Easy to install once you figure out where it goes (reading the manual probably would have helped, but ... )

I was very disappointed in this product. When first installing the filter it turned the water and ice black. Granted, it has stopped that nonsense, but I am actually afraid that it isn't working right, or of what I might be ingesting. A disappointing purchase this time!

Breville WC15XL Wine Chiller

Breville WC15XL Wine ChillerThe description does not tell you that you still have to add water to unit in addition to the gel packs. I chilled my chardonnay for seven minutes and it was still warm. I had to chill it for 20 minutes to get it cold enough to drink. Gel packs don't allow you to chill several bottles without having to refreeze them or add ice to the machine.

The product works ok, but then we don't like our Chardonnay super cold either. I'm not so sure that an ice bucket filled with ice and water wouldn't do the same thing in just slightly more time. (You might want to try that before buying this chiller.) My primary reason for writing this review is to say that after about 3-4 months of intermittent use, the chill cells are oozing out freezer gel. They say it's "food safe", but nonetheless, that shouldn't happen. I'll contact Brevelle & hopefully, they'll make it right.

I tried to chill my white wine in seven minutes and it was still warm. They say chill, but what does that really mean? They should say what temperature it chills to in 7 minutes. I guess that is why they have a 15 minute timer. Also the description does not state that you have to add water so it is just as messy as an ice bucket and as much work.

I bought this on a whim, as a gift. It's certainly not all it claims to be; neither is it a total failure. Ten minutes gives you reasonably cool wine.

In my book, three stars is a typical, average product. This gizmo loses a point for being $50 instead of $15.

I received this item as a gift last christmas. We loved it. We are avid wine drinkers and collectors, mostly reds though, so I did not have alot of space in my wine fridge for whites (and the temp is set for my reds). This was a great gift for us, I find it gets VERY cold VERY fast. It even puts a little more chill on my wine than suits my palate, however, my husband does like his colder than I do, so I pour first and replace to chill a little longer for him. I too am very shocked at the low stars for this product. I am trying to find more to give as gifts this year.
