GE Profile : PFSS2MIYSS 22.2 cu.ft. Bottom Freezer Refrigerator - Stainless Steel

GE Profile : PFSS2MIYSS 22.2 cu.ft. Bottom Freezer Refrigerator - Stainless SteelI upgraded from the standard freezer on top and no water dispenser or ice maker and this review is coming from that perspective.

We bought this fridge because of the dimensions that fit our space. We couldn't get the standard 35 3/4 in width fridge. We looked at LG and the thing I like about this fridge is the internal water dispenser. It means that you do not need to lose any interior space. I'm glad I didn't get the LG because the loss of door space would have been a problem. The ice maker is in the freezer (no crushed ice) and works fast. It makes 100 cubes a day.

The interior space seems to be the same actual space as the old fridge but there are many configuration options making better use of the space, possibly. Not sure if it really makes a difference.

The thing I like the most is the fact that I do not need to bend down to see what's in the fridge.

A few other things that I'd like to mention because I have seen them in other reviews:

Noise: More than a fridge without an ice maker not really noticeable.

Energy efficiency: Seems OK.

Stainless steel: Get the stainless steel spray cleaner (not the wipes). Does a great job keeping the prints off.

Ice maker: Cranks out the ice. Once I think the there-is-enough-ice sensor didn't detect that the ice was full. You can turn off the ice maker so no biggie.

Water dispenser: It has an easy to change filter accessible inside the fridge. Water tastes excellent. The first gallon or so had a plastic taste (I also used a plastic water line) but it went away. I hear this is common.

Freezer drawers: There are three. It seems ok. Very different from the old top freezer. I like it but it makes you pack more efficiently so you can slide the drawers. This tends to force you to pay attention to what you have in the freezer rather than just tightly packing it in like in the old days.

Overall I am very happy with the fridge and would recommend it to anyone. I realized that after I bought the fridge that there was a model with an external water dispenser that doesn't take any space away from the interior (ice maker is still in the freezer). Had this been available when I bought it, I may have opted for it. Still I have no regrets.

We just replaced our 16 year old fridge with this GE french door model. Overall it is an adequate replacement but not of the quality I expected. I like the sliding shelves, the easy to see temp controls and the stainless steel finish. My last fridge was also a bottom freezer; an option that I highly recommend. The french doors versus my old single door has more compartments but less space. Eggs no longer have their own door compartment; they now take up space on a shelf. My old single door would close by itself (gravity) but the new french doors take a conscious effort; a particular problem if you have kids. Occasionally, a door is left partially open and sometimes an audible alarm (if you're near)will alert you, but don't count on it. The freezer door takes muscle to open and close. You'd think that for the price they could devise a smoother door. The freezer drawer is deep an appears to have a lot of capacity. This is misleading since there are several sliding drawers (baskets) in the top of the freezer that limit the amount that the main drawer can hold. We removed the middle basket which improved the capacity but reduced the organization. Not a limitor only an inconvenience. There is a water dispenser inside fridge that operates okay when filling a small single glass but difficult to operate for a bigger vessel. The resevoir for the water/ice takes up produce drawer space reducing the amount that they can hold. Bottom line is that it looked great on the showroom floor, but was not as practical when we got it home.

We purchased an entire kitchen of appliances including this Fridge about 3 years ago and it has been nothing but trouble. It came with faulty gaskets that would not seal. Within 3 months the vegatable drawer guides were broken. The door latch at the top snapped off after two years, and now about 3 years later the indicator light panel is non-functional. This fridge was lightly used and never abused. After reading other consumer reviews I see we are not the only family to have these problems. Don't even get me started on the microwave!! Shame on GE for producing inferior disposable applicances to fill our nations landfills. I am disgusted. I will never purchase or recommend a GE product again. GE = FAIL!!!

Want GE Profile : PFSS2MIYSS 22.2 cu.ft. Bottom Freezer Refrigerator - Stainless Steel Discount?

Our GE Profile refrigerator has all of the disadvantages I have read in the reviews here and more. Beginning with the day it arrived. The wheels on the frig are so small that given the weight of the thing, it damages floors as it rolls, even empty. They knew that and put down thick padding, but I didn't and when I pulled it out later when it started leaking, it put noticeable "track marks" on our oak (not pine!) floors. So get some padding to roll it on. And make sure every family member knows where the water shutoff to the frig or the house is. You'll need it.

Now to the tale of woe:

Twice now, the solenoid control for the water/ice-maker has started leaking. It is not that the line broke; the cheap little piece of Chinese crap began leaking from its own plastic casing. The frig wet our wood floor, damaging it. It damaged the drywall in the great room and its floor and walls below the frig. On both occasions. Since the leak was slow, and behind the fridge, we did not discover it until a lot of damage was done. Both new replacement parts were identical copies of the old onesno effort to fix the problem even though the repairman says they fail constantly just as ours did.

The thing began to have temperature control problems. Took two visits for the repairman to figure out that the little plastic flapper that controls airflow between frig and freezer had broken. Replaced that. The one that came out I still have to show people. It looks like a 5th grade science project. The housing is styrofoam of the quality that your stereo came in, with a piece of plastic that is operated by a tiny motor. The "axle" on the flapper is barely bigger around than a toothpick, and the repairman admitted, "Oh, those things always break. This new one will break after a while." I wish I could post a picture of it.

Turned out that while the flapper was indeed broken, it still did not fix the problem. Fridge still would not cool properly and the left side was getting so hot you could hardly hold your hand on it. Some sort of computer board swapout was required. Very expensive.

The lever against which you push your glass for ice or water operates a valve for water. Any sticky contents from a glass will be splashed onto the valve and it will become stuck shut. If you are lucky. Ours also stuck open, with water pouring all over the place, though at least we were here to see it. Another repair visit. Even if you use nothing but empty glasses, mildew will form around the dispenser and is a nightmare to clean since it was not designed with smooth surfaces for cleaning.

The ice dispenser is so imprecise that it never gives a predictable amount of ice. You push the lever sequentially: No ice... no ice... no ice... a couple of cubes... then BINGOfull tall glass of ice and ice all over the floor. It all releases in a torrent. T

he water line for the water dispenser used to constantly freeze up, requiring that the temp in the frig be set higher until it thawed. Also, the buttons that switched among water, ice, and crushed ice began to malfunction. We finally got it back to ice and do not dare switching again. We stopped using the water dispenser and now have space taken up by a Brita pitcher.

I have put a water detector under the damn thing, but I did ask the remarkably candid repairman what to expect next. Said he: "Well, you see these water lines for the ice and water? Where they go into the solenoid I just replaced, that's near the compressor. It gets real hot right there because the cooling fan is not adequate. These things are not really made to be built in because not enough air gets to them. So these plastic lines break all the time." When that happens you get another flood. There is no catch pan, water alarm, or shutoff valve. If you are away for the weekend, good luck when you return.

We have friends who have a 1947 refrigerator in their basement that has been running constantly since they bought their house back then. Only repair: a door seal about 10 years ago. That GE puts out the kind of quality they do now is shameful. We're pilots, and are aware that they make aircraft engines. They know how to make reliable stuffif they didn't in aviation, they'd kill people. But with refrigerators, they can keep selling us crap, and letting our insurance companies pay the thousands of dollars in drywall, paint, and floor refinishing. Of course, we policyholders pay in the endin our premiums.

We have paid hundreds of dollars in repairs for this damn thing, and I wish I could just have back one of those old white things which you plugged into the wall, put your stuff in, it got cold, and you forgot about the box for 25 years at least.

Google "GE sucks" and other similar expressions of love you'd expect from irate customers. ("GE sucks" brings up a YouTube video of a Profile frig that pretty much covers it.)

Friends of ours have a Liebherr that people are raving about. German made, with the quality you'd expect from them. You'll pay more money, but deduct the cost of two ruined floors, walls, ceiling, etc. Beneath GE's stainless steel facade is nothing but the cheapest junk they can find. Had we known, we'd have gone with Liebherr.

Finally, ovens. We have two of the same type GE Profile ovens, one here and one at a country property. The touchpads keep going bad, (Google "GE F7 error," and "GE F0 error") and they have a knack for knowing when company is coming. Over $300.00 a pop. According to an independent repairman: "Electronics hate two thingsheat and moisture. GE refuses to build in the protection for their electronics, so they all go bad. The more moist things you cook, the sooner it happens. They make a fortune off selling touchpads over and over."

What an embarrassment insofar as American productivity is concerned. And way too typical. Bosch dishwasher? Great so far10 years in. Everything they said it would do, and quiet as a mouse.

I purchased this temperature control figuring it was equal to the OEM control I was replacing. After purchasing this control and opening the box, I realized this was a "generic" control. The screw holes were off by 90 degrees, the original control knob would not fit, and I ended up spending another $48.00 for the correct control. Refrigerators parts change month to month and finding repair parts is always an "Uphill Battle." For these applications and repairs, go with the OEM parts and just make the one purchase for the correct repair part!

Kitchen Aid 29.7 Cu. Ft. Stainless Steel Side-By-Side Refrigerator - KSSC48QVS

Kitchen Aid 29.7 Cu. Ft. Stainless Steel Side-By-Side Refrigerator - KSSC48QVSWe have owned our Kitchen Aid 48" stainless steel refrigerator for nearly one year. We find it to be an outstanding product.

Before we gutted our kitchen, we did extensive research for many products. Our former appliances were all Kitchen Aid brand except the refrigerator--the only appliance I disliked. We wanted a built-in with wider storage than the typical fridge/freezer (side-by-side) models. Sub Zero offered that, but at about double the price.

We chose the Kitchen Aid 48" model for a number of reasons:

* Wider doors give more storage

* Shorter depth equates to easier visibility

* Items are accessed without moving things around

* Dispensers on the door are lighted (if desired)

* Ice is dispensed as cubed or crushed

* Water dispenses as chilled, not cold

* Stainless steel exterior is good quality

* Shelves are glass (easy to clean)

* Drawers are extra roomy

* Refrigerator door capacity allows for a large amount of storage

* Quality of construction surpasses many of the flimsier and not-so-cheap other brands

A note of interest:

* You do not need to purchase expensive cloths embedded with a cleaning product to keep the stainless steel free of marks. Make your own mixture (50/50) of white vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Buy a soft, washable cloth and use it with the mixture to wipe off all of your Kitchen Aid appliances.

I would not hesitate to buy this refrigerator/freezer!

We purchased this unit to replace an older refrigerator because of the relatively low price for units in this size range, and for the ice/water dispenser, which our old fridge didn't have. The ice maker quickly stopped working and we have had it repaired three times. Hopefully it will stay fixed. The refrigerator is very quiet, and the water filter is easily replaced from the front.

Electrolux E23BC78IP 36" French Door Refrigerator with Custom Temp Drawer and Theatre Lighting, Sta

Electrolux E23BC78IP 36' French Door Refrigerator with Custom Temp Drawer and Theatre Lighting, Stainless SteelVery nice french door counter depth refrigerator. Well designed. First version of this model had issues with the ice maker, but the new models have redesigned icemakers and are generally quite good/reliable.

Well designed interior. Well lit. Quiet. French doors offer excellent access and utility. Freezer is good and spacious as the icemaker is located in the upper refrigerator portion (so as to allow thru-door water/ice). Touch panel are tasteful blue as are internal temp adjustments.

Overall, impressed with looks/design (nice beefy "pro style" handles). Only "problem" is these counter depth refrigerators are relatively pricey since relatively few are produced (although I can't stand refrigerators that project out into kitchen walk ways).

I purchased the top of the line Electrolux Refrigerator, along with other Electrolux products. If there is ever a lemon, this is it. The Refrigerator is the worse appliance purchase I have ever made. Since the beginning, leaks on the water dispenser went unresolved. Ice maker problems during the one year warranty were several and visits from the repairman and drawer alignment were some some of the initial problems. After the one year warranty was over I have paid hundreds to have repairmen come out and repair it, specifically the ice maker. The last visit they said there have been major problems with these and they could not repair it. The refrigerator is less than 3 years old, stainless steel and cost over $3,600. I have receipts and plenty of correspondences I can prove every word of this.

I only like providing positive feedback, but this is so egregious I had to write it. I wish I was warned.

I like many of you thought I would save and buy great Electrolux products that I heard growing up were great, upper scale products. I thought I could pay for these and justify the difference with years of problem free appliances, although I have not had any problems with any appliances. I was wrong and have contacted the company many times and that has proven worthless. They offered me another one for half price. Why would I want another of their lemons.

The Refrigerator was made in Mexico which demonstrates to me they are taking what I thought was a great name and sacrificing it for profit. If you buy, get extended warranties and read the fine print.

The rest of my Electrolux appliances were made in Canada and the U.S., I have had NO problems. I can only advise do not buy Electrolux Refrigerators and after talking to customer service I would recommend not purchasing Electrolux at all.

Buy Electrolux E23BC78IP 36" French Door Refrigerator with Custom Temp Drawer and Theatre Lighting, Sta Now

I seldomly write a review for a product; but I can't tolerate this any more.

I bought electrolux French door refrigerator 3 month ago and it started leaking after 1 month.

I called service guy to fix it and they told me that all electrolux refrigerator have same problem; meanwhile the service attitude is very bad and you have to wait several hours to get someone answer your phonecall.

After 5 time service visit ; they didn't come any more and let refrigerator leaking and ruin my wood floor.

This company is a complete liar and I threw $3000 into water.

Read Best Reviews of Electrolux E23BC78IP 36" French Door Refrigerator with Custom Temp Drawer and Theatre Lighting, Sta Here

I agree with the only other reviewer, except it's not just the ice maker that has quality problems. I bought this model in March 2011 and have had nothing but problems with it. This model costs $500-800 more than comparable styles in other brands and so we (mistakenly) thought it would be better quality than the rest. Not true. The computer board went out within 8 months. The ice maker has never worked right unless you think it's normal to depress the lever and obtain 1 cube every 20 seconds. The frozen goods are always covered in frost and don't last nearly as long as they did with our old refrigerator. Afer a half-dozen visits from the repairman, he admitted they've had lots of quality problems with them, particularly the early ones. I have to give them credit on one point, because after the warranty ran out they did authorize one more repair but I'm not holding my breath that anything will really be fixed. Also, I'd never again choose the in-the-door ice maker because it takes up too much space in an already small interior.

LG LT700P Refrigerator Water Filter

LG LT700P Refrigerator Water FilterJust FYI with the review title... This is an exact replacement for the Kenmore version. Heck even the same photo of the straw sipping lady on the front. My french door Kenmore "Elite" was actually made by (gasp) the same plant that makes LG refrigerators so no big shock. The Kenmore brand filter is 50% more at Sears for some reason... The replacement reminder on the fridge is set for a specific volume +/and not the actual filter condition or flow, so if you have a decent water supply it can easily go through 2+ cycles without a drop in water quality (in my opinion). Works fine, and as clean and lightly chlorinated my city water is, I may not bother to replace again.

The replacement filter for our LG French Door refrigerator arrived quickly, was the correct one, and was received in perfect condition. The price was well below what I could have purchased it for locally, even with the shipping cost added on.

I was apprehensive to replace the old filter, as it was the first time that it needed to be replaced. Installation instructions were included with the filter, and I had no problem removing the old one and replacing it with the new one.

I plan on continuing to purchase our replacement filters through Amazon.

After reading and doing some research, I thought the ADQ36006101 / LT700P is a replacement for the ADQ36006102. It is NOT! I thought I would save about $15 to install it in my Kenmore refrigerator. Well after comparing the two, they looked like a good replacement. I installed it and threw the old filter in the garbage. The next day the filter leaked some water. Hence, I went out and bought the ADQ36006102 filter. I compared again and noticed the tip of the ADQ36006102 is slightly longer than the ADQ36006101. I installed the ADQ36006102 and not water leak problems.

Whirlpool 4317943 Ice Maker Replacement Kit RIM943

Whirlpool 4317943 Ice Maker Replacement Kit RIM943
  • Whirlpool 4317943 replaces Whirlpool part numbers 4211173 and 978556
  • Compatible with the following models: ED25DQXAN00 2ET18GMXJW00 2ET18GMXJW01 2ET18NMXJW00 2ET18NMXJW

The good:

1. The ice maker fits in my KitchenAid refrigerator and it works.

2. The price was right: $54 w/ free shipping.

3. The ice maker comes with more wire harnesses than shown in the picture. I'd recommend anyone who buys this, keep their old ice maker as you may want to 'recycle' your old wire harness just in case.

The not so good:

1. The fill cup needed to be modified to accept the fill tube. It's molded in such a way as to make this modification easy, however, in my case when I tried to cut it, it developed a couple of cracks. Sounds worse than it is. Not even a drop falls outside of the ice maker -it's just a funnel. But the quality of this part is suspect they should have used a softer, less brittle plastic that would cut easier.

2. The picture shows two shut off arms (the bent silver wire). Mine only came with one and it wasn't the one I needed. The shut off arm from my original ice maker fit in perfectly, so I just 'recycled' it.

Other info:

1. I purchased this from "Buy-It-Now Store". It arrived in about a week via USPS. I live in MD.

2. What shipped to me was Supco part# RIM943. I don't think this is a genuine Whirlpool part, but it's exceptionally close to the original part.

3. At first it didn't work, the thermostat needs to get below freezing. Don't be alarmed if it doesn't get going immediately.

Conclusion:

Should this ice maker fail in four or five years like the last one did, I'll buy it again. Issues I had were extremely minor. I'd have rated four stars (even w/ the cracks), but not including all the parts shown in the picture isn't right. Had I thrown away my old ice maker (and the old shut-off arm) before this arrived, I still wouldn't have a working ice maker. Seller should change the picture to reflect what actually ships, or change the product to reflect what's in the picture.

Buy Whirlpool 4317943 Ice Maker Replacement Kit RIM943 Now

This was exactly the part I needed for my broken Whirlpool icemaker. This kit came with several different wiring harnesses and attachment clips to choose from, but in my case, I was able to unplug the old wiring harness and plug it directly into the new unit. I have a side by side and it was a little awkward to remove the old icemaker since there was not a lot of room to work. But I was able to do the whole swap in about 15 minutes. First, I'd advise you turn off the fridge. I removed the three screws holding on the old icemaker and then using a small slotted screwdriver removed the old wiring harness that plugged into the icemaker. I then removed a plastic bracket from the bottom that held the 3rd screw in place and attached it to the new unit. Inspect your old unit to see the if your unit requires a cutout where the water lines comes into the icemaker. This unit doesn't have the cutout, but it is prescored if you need a cutout. All you have to do is use a pair of cutters to remove the plastic so it will fit your fridge. I needed the cutout and while you need to be careful, it just takes a couple of minutes. Check your old unit vs the new unit and adjust the water level screw to match your old unit. Attach the wiring harness into the unit and screw the new unit in place. With three screws, mine was already level. If you had a 2 screw unit, you might want to visually make sure it was level. After turning the unit back on, it took mine about an hour before the thermostat was ready and it started making ice. Some folks have said it took theirs' a whole day to start, but in my case, within 24 hours I had a full ice drawer. Like I said, about 15 minutes start to finish.

This ice maker was a direct replacement for mine (Whirlpool PN# 4317943), even used the existing wiring harness. My OEM unit had an "ice maker plus" attachment snapped to the front that is basically a small fan housing that blows air across the ice tray. The white cover pictured pops off and the ice maker plus snapped right into its place. Three small Phillips head screws hold the unit in place in the freezer, the wiring harness is quick-disconnect type that has a plug on the end.

The device made its first ice in about 3 hours, some reviews do state that it takes 24 hours or so for the built in thermostat to work but that wasn't the case with mine. Local parts houses want $120.00 USD for this exact same unit, you can get it on Amazon for $40+/and install it in 15 minutes. I saved the old unit and extra parts that came with the new unit for future use (parts salvage) if needed.

Update: 08/20/2012

While everything above is accurate the unit has failed in the last few days and is no longer making ice. I'm SOL as its now 9 days outside the 30 day return window as outlined by the seller. I'm going to have to get another unit and try again, still, buying two online is cheaper than one locally. Too bad manufacturers don't make things to last anymore.

Want Whirlpool 4317943 Ice Maker Replacement Kit RIM943 Discount?

We've been without an ice maker for about three years. I had procrastinated for that long, hemming and hawing on whether or not to just buy a new fridge (I'm not this slow with everything I purchase at Amazon). I ordered the Whirlpool 4317943 Ice Maker Replacement Kit RIM943 and set out to install it yesterday, the 15th of June, 2013. Firstly, I broke the handle to the brass fitting in the wall, so I had to turn off the water and travel to three different hardware stores to replace it. Okay that's fixed. Now the fun part, Praise the Lord and thank you Al Gore for the Internet. Youtube.com to be exact. I watched, I listened, I performed and 1 hour later all the tools were put away, incl. my wet vac and the dish towels (2). There was one glitch and that was the "escape slide" on the shipped product was for a top freezer unit and mine is a side by side. I had to further dismantle both the old and the new to change the part in question. That too was incl. in the hour. Not too bad, Ice for under $50.00, another lesson in nothing ever goes exactly as planned, and the cleanest tiles under our refrigerator in quite some time. Thanks Amazon for being my supplier.

It worked and was easy to install. Basically plug and play. It took a couple hours to get the ice but i think that is the cycle of the fridg

Samsung RF197ACPN 18 cu. Ft. French Door Refrigerator - Stainless PlatinumSams

Samsung RF197ACPN 18 cu. Ft. French Door Refrigerator - Stainless PlatinumI love this fridge but I am afraid of it.

First the love.. if you've been looking for a counter depth because you don't have much room in your kitchen then this, at the time of writing, is pretty much the only option. All of the other fridges made up for the depth with crazy width. The prices are also double for counter depth. This one is not. I live alone, so this is plenty of space for me. The platinum is also the best thing to ever happen. It looks like brushed nickel, which I will take over shiny stainless any day. Stainless is also the worst when it comes to showing fingerprints. I've had this fridge for three months now and open it with smudgy hands and have yet to even clean the front of this thing. You can't put finger prints on it.

The not-so-much-love.

The Handles.. so far, really so good. But alot of people have complained they fall off. The freezer door handle popped off the first time I used it but now I make sure to open with a specific motion and it's okay. We'll see after a year.

The plug is a straight plug and you need to leave a few inches in the back making this not exactly counter depth anymore. Maybe this is the case with all other fridges anyway, and while it's not counter depth, maybe it's still a few inches better than the others.

The adjustable shelves are not so adjustable. They give you barely an inch of discretion. You can put a SMALL Brita pitcher or a 2L bottle at the bottom of the door at an angle but you will not be able to put them in the regular shelves unless you remove one, decreasing your storage capacity. this was a major annoyance for a week and then I just got used to it.

The scary.

This fridge makes about six different kinds of noises. It's not nois-Y, but it has a different noise for kicking in, for when you've closed the fridge door, when you've closed the freezer door and then a random.. i don't know what. So far it works perfectly but I am constantly in fear that one of these noises should not be and that it's going to break. The scariest sounds like the edge of a fan hitting something plastic for a split second and then it stops. It was sudden and startling when I first got it but am now getting used to it.

So, that's the scoop. I want to love it unconditionally but only time will tell. It was the ONLY option for my kitchen when factoring in depth, width, my budget and the color.

Power cord issue:

The installation instruction taped on the unit shows a flat wall plug (90 degrees, with cord hanging down) but it does NOT come with this type of plug. Instead you get a straight power plug adding to the depth of the unit. The diagram is misleading to the plug you receive.

Also in the manual on page 4 under the title "Safety Information" it states: "Connect the power plug in the proper position with the cord hanging down. If you connect the power plug upside down, the wire can get cut off and cause a fire or electric shock." The manual is misleading to the plug you receive.

I contacted Samsung and this is what they said:

"We have cross checked the refrigerator model and found that it does come with the straight power plug.

However, we would like to inform you that the recommended clearance behind the refrigerator is 2 inches."

I would like to put only 2 inches but it is not possible with the straight power plug.

I contacted Samsung again and they said there was nothing they can do. They said they switched manufactures and this may of been a change. Samsung gave me their parts department (3rd party), however they do not sell a flat power plug for this unit.

I also posted a similar comment on the Samsung website, but they choose not to publish it, wonder why?

Buyer beware: If your buying this for space saving then reconsider. It came with a straight plug as opposed to a flat wall plug (90 degrees with cord hanging down) so it makes the unit sticks out about 3" as opposed to 2". Yes, it's only an inch but every inch matters.

We bought this fridge only to discover that it makes REALLY LOUD buzzing sounds on a regular basis. The sound is so loud it sounds like a fire alarm we can hear it throughout the entire house and wakes the baby up! It is tremendously annoying and makes us doubt Samsung technology. I do not recommend this product.

Letter to Consumer Reports:

I bought this SAMSUNG RF266ABRS fridge because it was recommended by Consumer Reports in August 2009. This fridge and other SAMSUNG fridges should be taken off the recommended list because there is an inherent design defect that causes ice buildup on the evaporator coils.

First there is a rattling noise as the fan hits the ice buildup.

Then the noise stops when the ice completely blocks the fan but then there is no more cooling happening.

There is even a class action lawsuit against SAMSUNG fridges:

Please look into this Samsung ice buildup problem. The Samsung fridges should definitively not be on the recommended list but put on the "do not buy" list. The ice buildup issue occurs about 1 year after purchase. SAMSUNG is not acknowledging the problem and does not help its customers.

Letter to SAMSUNG:

I am deeply unsatisfied on how SAMSUNG handled the warranty policy with my SAMSUNG Fridge French Door Model RF266ABRS. This fridge was defective starting Year 1 and was not repaired appropriately the 1st time. All was done on the 1st service visit was to defrost the evaporator not fixing the problem itself.

Of course, the problem reoccurred 1 year later and every year after that. Since the technician explained the problem, how to solve it and SAMSUNG customer service gave me a hard time because it was a few days over the 1 year purchase date, I dealt with it personally by unplugging the unit and let it sit unplug for 24 hours. Not a satisfactory resolution, just a quick workaround, until I got fed up with losing food and asked for SAMSUNG to resolve this problem once and for all.

First this problem should have been resolved the 1st visit. Secondly I learned recently from numerous complaints and videos on the web that this is a defective design in SAMSUNG fridges that causes the ice buildup on the evaporator.

Here is a video showing the defrost sensor modification kit to fix evaporator ice buildup. This is for the SAMSUNG RSH1 fridge but it is the same modification that was done on my fridge by the repair technician who came to my house:

Many SAMSUNG fridges have the same cooling design thus sharing the same ice buildup issue.

I was charged $104.68 to fix SAMSUNG own defective design! This is outrageous and no decent company would shift the cost from itself to their customers . It shows utter disrespect for its own customers, not counting the monetary damage. Sir, should I remind you that your customers are your most important assets and should be your priority number one!

SAMSUNG should have done everything in its power to help its loyal customers by fixing its defective fridges FREE OF CHARGE.

The technician explained that he had to move the defrost sensor away from the evaporator in order to let the defrost cycle run longer and completely defrost the evaporator from any ice buildup. He also put a wider drain clip. The older clip was too small. It would get iced up and not let water drain away from the evaporator. There is also a new metal clip that attaches to the heating element and goes inside the drain clip to heat any ice there if needed so the drain cannot get clogged. In addition, a new seal kit put on the market by SAMSUNG 3 months ago was used to seal the evaporator compartment to prevent moisture to get in and improve circulation airflow provided by the fan.

I bought this refrigerator in January from a well known appliance company (S...rs). I say this because I buy tons of stuff through Amazon, but in the following tale I want to make clear that the problem was not inept installation on my part. The shiny new refrigerator was delivered and installed. That evening, I bought $374 in perishable groceries; plus I transferred my child's $1300 in drugs into the refrigerator. Next morning I realized the refrigerator wasn't cooling. So I called Samsung and worked through their troubleshooting process. Samsung agreed the refrigerator didn't work and directed me to call the retailer, whose repairman inspected the unit and diagnosed the problem: Shipped without coolant. Can you believe it? Was the coolant-installer absent from work that day? It gets better. The appliance company exchanged the refrigerator two days later, but of course the food and drugs were spoiled. Now Samsung is limiting the food cost replacement to $200. And, get this, the reimbursement process has now been in the works for 4 months. The latest hitch: Samsung says, gee, the repair ticket (which contains the repairman's diagnosis of "no coolant") is not enough, we need more proof that the refrigerator was exchanged or repaired. Alas, the appliance company doesn't issue receipts for those kinds of replacements. I have now spent probably 4 hours talking to 6 different Samsung "Executive Customer Relations" CSRs. That latest said he thinks he can process the claim with what I have submitted. We'll see. Summary: if nothing goes wrong, swell, but if it does, Samsung's "Executive Customer Relations" may leave you hanging.

Summit Professional Outdoor Kegerator - Stainless

Summit Professional Outdoor Kegerator - StainlessComes complete with CO2 gauge, hoses, tap, empty CO2 bottleall you need is to fill the CO2 bottle (or swap it for a full one at your liquor store) and buy a keg. Carefully double boxed so shipping damage is unlikely, mine arrived in pristine condition. Slightly misaligned screw holes made installing the tap tower and guard rail difficult. Comes with two wire shelves if you go on the wagon and want to turn it into a refrigerator. Great, sturdy looking unit all around and the motor runs very quiet. The label on the rear panel displays "Assembled in USA" but take that panel off and the inside label says Made in China. I feel like a fossil that I can remember when stuff was made in the US.

I've been using it for 6 months and the only problem I've had is the frost buildup around the thermostat sensor. The ice buildup seems to throw off the thermostat and my beer was pouring in the low 40's. A ten minute defrosting with a hair dryer brought my beer back down around 35F but still a bit of a hassle. Despite what the product description might say this unit does not have an auto defrost so when you're looking at other kegerators make sure it has an active heating defrost element. To be fair, I use a swamp cooler and the extra humidity could be to blame for the excessive frost and this might not be an issue for you.

There are many kegerator brands out there...purchase something other then Summit especially via AJ Madison. I received my kegerator October 2, it's still not working due to missing parts.

  • Free standing, indoor application with scratch-resistant worktop and heavy-duty castors
  • Spotless steel door front with reversible door hinge for left or right hand opening
  • Mechanical temperature control and automatic defrost for hassle free maintenance

I bought this keg cooler for my husband's birthday. He absolutely loves it. The beer stays cold and the air pressure gives it just enough foam on the pour. It ends up costing us less to have the keg instead of buying cases. I am really happy with my purchase!

Terrible. It was missing a piece and while we tried to get a hold of Danby's customer service, we wasted an entire keg. Danby's customer service is AWFUL. They have limited hours and don't seem to be concerned about servicing or attempting to make their customers happy. Thankfully, Amazon is great to work with and refunded my money for this lemon.

  • 25.1-Cubic feet total capacity

  • Temp assure freshness controls
  • Control lockout

This is the thried Amana Refridgerator that I have purchased new. The first was pre 1990 the second was after 1997 and the most recent was last month. To this day all three are still up and running and have never needed any work or replacement. Just updating my kitchen. I HIGHLY SUGGEST THIS ONE TO ALL

We owned an Amana refer for over 15 years until it stopped cooling in the refer and the freezer wouldn't defrost. I checked on getting it repaired but tech said would be better off buying a new one.

So ...since we had good luck with Amana in the past we bought the one listed here.

Big mistake. The same thing that happened to our 15 year old refer hit the new one after only 2 years. Of course it is out of warranty now so I guess we have to pay 200 or more to get it fixed or buy a new fridge every 2 years. The freezer coils get covered with ice and the fridge is warm ....inexcusable for an appliance this new.

I have been using this fridge for a little over two months now and it is so far keeping everything within it good and cold and/or frozen. Our prior fridge was a Frigidaire that was around 30 years old. It was making extra noises, ran almost constantly and had a few less cubic feet, but still worked. We have noticed that our electric bill took a drop after starting to use this Amana, so it is more efficient. The two plastic drawers within the Amana look a bit flimsy. I hope they do not break as they are expensive to replace. The three drawers in the Frigidaire were much more sturdily made. The bottom drawer was for meats and stayed a little colder. The Amana does not have a place especially for meats.

We had to add plumbing to the house to get water for the ice maker. Just got that done within the last few days. The ice maker is now doing its job. Every few hours we hear it dropping ice. As the instructions stated, I threw out the first several batches of ice.

I would have liked to have greater control over the spacing of the shelves. This Amana is suppose to have several cubic feet more space than the Frigidaire, but it doesn't seem to hold any more than the Frigidaire did. Appears to me that there is a lot of space within the Amana that is not able to be used. I do like the tempered glass shelves that will stop small spills from going clear to the bottom of the fridge. The door could have used one more tray and a place to keep eggs where they could be accessed easily.

So far, I am liking this Amana. Other than the inefficient use of space and the flimsy looking drawers, it seems to be working well so far. Knock on wood. I hope it keeps up. I am giving it four stars. Will update in the future if needed.

This refrigerator, which was purchased from Amazon, was delivered by a truck, unpacked by the driver, and then wheeled into the house and placed where it was requested. The outside packing material was removed by the driver. Very good service by Amazon.

March 9, 2013.

Have been using this refrigerator for around fifteen months now and it continues to work quite well. No problems with it whatsoever. The ice maker also continues to work quite well. There are only few complaints I might make so far. One is that the glass shelves are dirt magnets. Every few weeks I find that I have to clean a shelf or two. The other is it looks to me as though the shelves could have been several inches deeper front to back. It looks as though there was enough space for that and it would have added a little more storage capacity. I would recommend a couple of wire baskets for the freezer section to keep smaller items in. They keep small items from falling out. I like the Spectrum 47970 Medium Storage Basket.

Want Amana 25-Cubic-Foot Side-by-Side Refrigerator, ASD2522WRB, Black Discount?

I grew up with a very large, grey, Amana freezer always in our home and I do not remember my grandparents ever having anyone show up to work on it despite several moves and a time span from the 1950's to the early 1980's, that freezer was always dependable.

And, that's why I chose this refrigerator dependability! For me, buying a new refrigerator is a big expenditure and I need it to last a very long time. I also need a quiet, energy conserving appliance and this Amana fits the bill on that as well!

It took a little while to get used to a black refrigerator after always having beige or white ones, but now I really like it!

I also like the fact I can now go shopping and take advantage of grocery store sales and keep the freezer filled and I especially like the fact that with the side-by-side feature, I no longer have to worry about getting hit in the head by a top freezer door while putting food inside the fridge part!

I am very happy with this purchase!

I haven't had this long at all, so I can't speak for longevity. I love it so far, though. I ordered it on January 20th (a Friday), and it arrived on the 25th (the following Wednesday) at 8am! The delivery company already had it unpacked and ready to go, they rolled it right into my kitchen in less than 5 minutes. After hooking up the water and power lines, everything worked flawlessly. It's cooling both sides fine on medium settings and the ice/water maker/dispenser is great! I can barely hear it running when the compressor kicks in. For the price I am very satisfied.
