Although I don't own this unit yet, it's exactly what I have been looking for tall, sleek, side by side without a dispensor in the door.
BTW The dimensions are clearly stated in the description 30.5 x 35.6 x 70 inches. Not sure how the previous reviewer missed that and, as a result, gave a poor rating.
I spent some time reviewing both Consumers Reports and customer reviews from Amazon and the like before purchasing a washer.
I noted a number of complaints about the new, "efficient" washers in general (not specifically Whirlpool):
1. They don't wash as clean
2. They don't rinse properly, leaving detergent residue on clothes
3. They wrinkle clothing during the new (much faster) spin cycle
4. They are noisy and take more time to do a load.
The main problem is that they all use less water than the old "Inefficient" washers, and the water they do use is cooler. Also, they often only "spin rinse" where they spin out the washing water and then spray in some fresh water while still spinning. (This is in place of a proper, old-fashioned rinse, where the clothes are agitated in a tub of fresh water.) All these changes (I won't call them improvements) are in order to save water and, more specifically, to save the energy used to heat the water. In addition, they spin much faster to get out more water so that you subsequently use less energy in the dryer.
Nice in theory, but the washing results often aren't as good.
My solution to this was to look for a washer with the most manual adjustments on it; and I chose to purchase the Whirlpool WTW4800XQ, having first READ THE MANUAL online. I discovered that, for lightly soiled clothes, I can (and do) use the "Casual Regular" cycle, which has a proper rinse instead of the spin rinse. This option also spins at a lower speed, causing less wrinkling. I can also choose my own water level. Thus, I'm basically back to how our old washer worked, with good results.
If I have to use the "Normal Regular" cycle for more-soiled clothes, it will only do a spin-rinse, but I have the option with this washer of adding a second rinse to the cycle in case one won't do.
The Whirlpool won't solve complaint #4, although I don't find it terribly noisy, just different. A "Normal Regular" wash, large load, with additional spin-rinse, took 75 minutes; a "Casual Regular" wash, medium load, took 55 minutes.
All in all, a good, basic washer that I have good control over, and at a very reasonable price: If you don't do dozens of washes a month, you don't need a high-efficiency washer that will cost you many hundreds of dollars more.
*No hot water. (The machine will automatically add cold water to hot so you get cold or tepid water, not even warm). My hot water in July was 100 degrees. This is barely warm.My water temp is 148 degrees but machine will not allow you to use hot water or even warm water.
*No soak feature
*Not very quiet, makes strong computer noises. Some reviewers say it is like a hack saw. I don't think it is that bad but it is not quiet in a condo environment.
*USLESS 'Technical Dept. (Whirlpool tech dept seems to have no training. You might as well pull a girl off the register at your local market for help.)
I had read there were a few people who had trouble with the lid lock not working correctly. I thought it was just an oddball. I had to return the unit because the lid lock would not allow water into the machine as it kept locking and unlocking. (yes! the water was on!). The first load was fine. The second wash load the lid lock would not stop locking and unlocking after one hour. I'made sure the clothes were evenly balanced in the machine. So'I unplugged the machine and let it rest for 15 minutes. The same process happened again--I let the machine lock and unlock for an hour. I'unplugged it again and let it rest. Tried this several times over 24 hours to no avail. The store I bought the machine from sent a repairman. He did not fix it--the machine just happened to work. When the repairman left I did a load ('this was my third load of wash since I bought the machine) and the same thing happened. It was quite arduous to get my money back.
What is supposed to happen?--The lid lock will lock and unlock until it feels the load is balanced. This is normal. But it is not normal if the machine locks and unlocks for hours. This is what happened to me.
Also when I went to go purchase another washer from another store, the manager said they had a lot of problems with the WTW4800XQ because in time the hot water valve would melt. Yes, according to this manager of the store just 120 degree water out of the tap was enough to deform the hot water valve. He thinks Whirlpool has been trying to remedy this problem. But he could not say for sure if they fixed this error. Whew! I feel I dodged a bullet with this machine
PAY ATTENTION to those people who say that they have a lid lock failure and the machine goes out of balance easily. These are real problems and I encountered them both plus holes in my clothes.
This WTW4800XQ got the clothes clean but it did not work consistently and it went out of balance frequently and easily. My new SpeedQueen 432 is a dream of a washer. Yes it is different from the old washer. It clunks and makes noises when you first start the cycle. This is the self balancing feature. Washes fine and no problems so far.

Yes, the lid does lock. But you can hit the stop/start button and it opens right up if you forgot to add anything.

My new washer doesn't even fill enough to cover the clothes... so how can they call this thing a "washing machine?" It's truly an expensive laundry basket. Not only do the clothes NOT get washed and rinsed properly, but the agitator beats the Hell out of the clothes. I called Whirlpool's customer service and found the representative belligerent. The machine is going back immediately, and I've lost all faith in the Whirlpool company. If they can engineer and dump a unit such as this on their customers, and then treat them like dirt, there's no end to how they are willing to scam us. NO WHIRLPOOL PRODUCTS... EVER!
The product was a quick temp fix. We had to replace the fridge anyway. If the door is racked (or out of square) in any way it won't close Iv'e been repairing appliances for 30 years and this took way too much time to install. It is not tha fault of the replacment part it was a poor design by the manufacturer from day 1.
This product works well and is a cost savings alternative to buying a new refrigerator. Read the installation instruction, can be found by googling. Can be difficult to remove the old gasket in some places. Also make sure the door is properly aligned, you may have to adjusted the door by gently pushing it into proper allgnment. This can save one the additional time of loosening the hinges. Also recommend placing the gasket in the dryer to remove the wrinkles, this is more effective than soaking in warm water. Also once the gasket is on the door do apply the vaseline.
Not only was I surprised at the price of the temperature control but the speed of the delivery was very impressive. The price was perfect and it arrived far ahead of expectations.
I purchased this temperature control figuring it was equal to the OEM control I was replacing. After purchasing this control and opening the box, I realized this was a "generic" control. The screw holes were off by 90 degrees, the original control knob would not fit, and I ended up spending another $48.00 for the correct control. Refrigerators parts change month to month and finding repair parts is always an "Uphill Battle." For these applications and repairs, go with the OEM parts and just make the one purchase for the correct repair part!
Danby does not stand by their products. Bought this new in 2005. Used it 2 months out of the year, sat in normal storage the rest of each year. So that is a total of about 1-years worth of use. Condenser failed, or has an obvious sealed system leak somewhere. Nobody will even look at fixing it for less than $400. Danby warranty-support told me to not waste their time with anything older than 3 years. I will avoid Danby for now on.
Unfortunately, as soon as I took it out of the box, I noticed that one of the rear vents was damaged. It looked as if someone took a hammer to it!! The box itself is not damaged, nor is the styrofoam that surrounded the product in the box. This means, it was damaged before they ever shipped it! How in the world do they not see the entire side having dents...and I mean...really noticeable dents... BEFORE they send it to the buyer??!! I requested a replacement and/or refund to cover the repair costs so let's see how their customer service is. Hopefully they get it right this time. I was so excited for it. Now it has just become a hassle to deal with.... A couple statements regarding the product itself...the frame is made of a rather light metal...you can literally press the vent itself with your finger and reshape the inlets. The drawers are a bit narrow. I can only fit 2 bottles on 3 of the 5 shelves in the red-wine section of the cooler. The unit itself looks nice though. It fits well in the apartment, and has a nice contemporary look to it.

We have just purchased this little freezer for our camping needs. It arrived timely and was packed very well. It is very powerful (freezes quickly) for a small freezer and is extremely quiet when running (you really have to get close to even tell its on!). I think it is going to be a fine addition to our camper.
Purchased this for a medical research facility to store frozen medications and blood samples. In less than an hour the freezer was at -20 C. It now stays at roughly -30 C with very few temperature fluctuations. It is very small inside 1.1 cu ft, which is what we needed because we have limited space. It is quiet, light and attractive. You can switch the side the way the door opens. The lock is a standard refrigerator door lock.
I'm soon going to start building a custom Tear Drop Trailer From scratch. The kitchen will be the major focus, it will be my own version and totally custom to what I want in a camping kitchen. With a lot of thought and research, I felt as though I wanted a freezer in it rather than a fridge, I can build in a nice cooler as a fridge, keep things frozen and produce ice for the cooler.
Researching a fridge of this size just was not worth the space. Not very dependable for just food. The cooler will be 3 times in vol.
So, if your looking for a freezer of this size, this is it, it will not get warm enough to act as a fridge on low, it is still at zero degrees.
This is exactly what I needed for my project. I can fill it full of ice cube trays and have ice in less than 30 min. Probably 12 trays, thats a bag of ice in the woods. I also have a portable ice maker. So, this would be a backup if needed. At high, it will go to a neg 20 degrees. Running a 12 volt system with ac inverters, space is a must. This is an awesome FREEZER, not a fridge combo.
i ordered this frige for my mom to keep in her room. It is not a roomy as the pic shows, can only get maybe 4-6 can or bottle sodas in it. the wall that extends from the back takes up 1/2 of the friges depth, an the ice area is not big enought for a standard ice tray. I ws going to retunr it but my mom did not want to go thru the hastle involved with re-packaging and returning. I will be getting her another one soon. NOTE: the pic shown is very deceiving

I recently had a baby and I ordered this for my office to store my breastmilk. I work in an open office with 9 people in the room. You cannot hear it at all and it's perfect for some of my coworkers lunches.
I have had these in two brand new RV's and they have never worked. Not even at first. I return them to be fixed, the techs fiddle with it for awhile and say try this and bring it back if it doesn't work. Next trip. no fridge, return and start over. Eventually I get tired of them trying to fix it. AC electric has always worked. Fine when you're parked at home. Battery sucks dry in hours if you try to use that. Gas just never works. Will not light, will not stay lit. Even more frustrating because the switch is right next to the gas hot water heater. One touch and its on, never any problems so it's not like we can't build something that works. I'm completely through with Norcold.
Works, but we have had trouble with excessive condensation. We started storing a cloth in the fridge to wring out the water every day when used in the summer
I bought this product hoping to save a few bucks, go green, and also because my local Sears was out of stock of my particular filter. I followed the instructions, including the instruction to soak the filter in water for 15-20 mins before installing which seemed extremely odd to me.
I found that the filter did not "easily" install, took quite a bit more effort than the standard Sears/Kenmore brand filter. Thankfully I did not damage my refridgerator.
As you normally would (to release trapped air), I ran water through the system after installing the new filter and was not happy to find that the water coming out of my fridge was black! I ran approximately 1+ gallons of water through the system and the color of the water lightened up a bit, but was still a very dark color. Needless to say, I removed the filter and reinstalled the previous Kenmore brand filter, ran a few gallons throught the system and was happy to see the water color return to normal.
One positive aspect of this entire ordeal was the return process. DeepDiscountsco had no issues accepting the return and refunded the full amount I originally paid. They also refunded my return shipping. Gave the extra 2nd star as a credit to their very friendly returns people.
I bought this based soley on price. While it states compatable with 9990 style filters, this does not fit in my fridge, and while installing, damaged the receiver, requiring an visit from the repairman. I thought I was going to save some money. I shall only buy these parts from the Sears store from now on.
This container was installed via instructions given by the manufacturer. My whole family noticed a plastic taste in the water, which wasn't noticed until after this device was installed. Stick with the carbon filters if you enjoy drinking good quailty water. This device didn't work for me! I should have returned item for a refund.
I just received this wine cooler for a small bar I'm building for my basement. I purchased it with the matching beverage center and was very impressed initially with the build quality. It looks amazing and stores a lot of wine (33 bottles) even though it's only 15" wide. The only negative thing (why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5) is that of the 7 shelves only the top one holds larger wine bottles, but it does hold 5 of them. I will update this review once I install and use it for a few months.
Our LG refrigerator was about one year old when the ice maker started doing strange things. It would only make crushed ice and would leak water. It would also jam frequently. I had read that LG refrigerators were well known for this, but there was much speculation as to how to fix it. I figured I would start with a cheap option of replacing the bucket assembly since it was clearly cracked. It arrived much quicker than I ever expected and seems to cure the problem. It is so nice to have a fully functional ice maker once again.
The ice bucket works just fine. It fit perfectly, but something in my inner mechanism in the door isn't working correctly, so it only makes crushed ice. That is not the fault of this bucket.
Shipping was really slow and the only reason why I gave it 3 stars instead of 5. They used UPS who took a week to get it to Phoenix, but then they handed it over to the post office and it took another 3 business days to go less than 20 miles. FedEx Ground is so much quicker and you don't have to screw with the post office.
The ice maker design allows the ice in the bottom to melt and refreeze making a large block of ice in the bottom of the bin which leads to breaking of the auger and bucket.

Guess I'm the first here to review the Samsung DMT400RHS. Some background first. We purchased our house new about 10 years ago. The original appliances (dishwasher and stove) were low end Kenmore. REALLY low end Kenmore. Although both the electric range and dishwasher were still functional we decided it would be nice to upgrade with new equipment. I began searching for a new dishwasher about a year ago. Almost pulled the trigger on a high end LG but was reluctant as it was expensive (on sale at $799) and the reviews were all over the place. They ranged from it being the greatest dishwasher ever to being junk. I passed and kept looking. Well, President's Day sales came along and there were some good deals out there especially at the big box stores. (NOTE: I did not purchase the Samsung from Amazon. I love Amazon but the price at the box store was just too good to pass up.) I kept searching the net and reading reviews, lots of reviews. Talked to my wife and she said, "ok, but just don't buy the most expensive one as we think we'll be moving in another 4 yrs. Just get a good middle of the road model." I narrowed my search down to two brands, Bosch and Samsung. Both had good products with low noise levels (51db for the Samsung), stainless steel interiors, food disposer, energy efficient, leakage detection, and low water consumption (4.7 gal/load I believe). Both brands were good looking and seemed to be solidly built and both had units that were stainless steel exteriors. One other feature that I thought I wanted was a delayed start. How many times have I started the old noisy dishwasher right before going to bed and had to listen to the whoooossssh and clank as it ran through its motions right next to our bedroom. Arrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggh! After reading a bunch of reviews I decided on the Samsung DMT400RHS. It was a notch down from the top of the line which meant it was a bit easier on the wallet but it didn't have the time delay feature. Hey, it's supposed to be quiet. At least all the reviews I read said so. Well, that home improvement store that sponsors Jimmy Johnson had it in stock but another big box had it too and was considerably cheaper. Called Big Box #1 and asked if they priced matched and they said yes. Off to the store with printed documentation of the cheaper price at Big Box #2 (S**rs). They said that they only priced matched if it was in stock and it was and they gave me that price and an additional 10% off. I also purchased a Samsung Electric Range FTQ353IWUX (review later when we've had some time with the range)with the same documentation. THEN, they had a deal where if you purchased a "tax gift card" they would credit you back 10% of the amount on the gift card on 18 Mar 11. Got the total price for the two plus installation on the dishwasher and bought a gift card for that amount and used it for the purchase. On Mar 18 I'll get a credit and probably go buy a new weedeater. Ok, back to the dishwasher. I wasn't home for the install but my wife noticed the difference between the old and the new immediately. The old Kenmore was cheap. There's just no other way to describe it. When the plumber was pulling the old one out she noted that it was just a shell with some hoses and weighed practically nothing. The Samsung was a different story. First, it was heavy, second it was enclosed. Score 1 for the Samsung. The unit comes with some side plates and a kick plate and when installed looks great. Score 2 for the Samsung. This thing is solid. You open the door and it doesn't fall down like the old one, you have to lower it down. It closes with a solid feeling something like closing the door of a good car. No latches to slide you just close it. The controls (hidden) are on the top edge of the door and I thought that might be a problem as there isn't any room to get to them with the door closed. Not a problem, before closing the door you set the controls. Power button (all are touch sensitive) press and wait for the chimes and the other buttons to light up. Select the wash setting (I've be using automatic but you have the option of normal, heavy or delicate), and then select "sanitize" (heats up the rinse water to 162F) if you wish. Close the door and the three blue progress lights on the front of the door light up and then just the first stays illuminated indication "washing". Light #2 indicates dry and light # 3 indicates clean. So, how does it clean? AWESOME! Glasses, dishes and dinnerware come out great. This dishwasher is so cooooooooool, I just want to find stuff to put in it so I can run the darn thing.
A couple of things to note. First, there is a bit of learning curve to loading this thing. The racks are laid out a bit differently than our old washer so I have to think about how I'm putting stuff in. No real problem as there is a lot of room. The upper rack is a bit different as it is "tiered", has four rows and each is a bit different in height. Short glasses on the left and progressively taller ones to the right. The top rack also has some plastic holders for stemware. Nice touch there. Hmmm, is it Score 3 for Samsung? The dinnerware holders are a bit different too. They have lids with cutouts so you place your knives and forks in them or not. You can flip the top up for stuff that won't fit the holes. Another thing that takes some getting accustomed to is the wash times. I think all these new dishwashers take a long time to go through their cycles. I believe that it's due to their low water consumption. Whatever, don't expect to put your dishes in and turn it on and be ready in an hour. Think the was times are closer to 2 or 2.5 hrs. Doesn't really matter as we usually run it before bed time. Something that will also take some getting used to is the rinse aid bin. Now we've always used the 3-in-1 dishwashing tabs (yes, they fit in the detergent bin) that include the rinse aid but the Samsung has a separate bin to put liquid rinse aid in. I've used the same tabs and they seem to work fine but the indicators on the top lid show a "low rinse aid" if the bin is empty. Hmmmm, don't want to burn out the light but do I really need to add a liquid rinse aid if I'm using the 3-in-1 tabs?????? Lastly, my concern about not getting the delay start......no problem. This thing is quiet, I mean really quiet. There is no "whoooooooooossssssssh" or "clank" or "bonk". Used to be you couldn't have a normal conversation in the kitchen with the old dishwasher now you could put a sleeping baby in crib next to the Samsung and not wake'em up. Sweet.
As you can tell, I heartily recommend the Samsung DMT400RHS. It looks great (buy some stainless steel wipes to keep it that way), it's super quiet, it cleans great, good feature set, and it was at the right price. There are two more Samsung dishwashers, one above this one (DMT 800) and one below (DMT 300) that you might consider depending on features and price. Additionally, the DMT400 comes in black or white and both are a bit cheaper than the stainless steel. You won't go wrong with this one. Cheers

Update. Everything is working great. The Samsung is still quiet and we are learning a bit more about loading. One thing I have learned is not to load large plates on the bottom rack below the detergent dispenser. We have a set of plates that are square and quiet large. Made the mistake of loading them on the lower left side front right below the detergent dispenser. After the wash was finished I opened the door and the dispenser flap popped open and out came a slightly used washing tab. The large plate had interfered with the dispenser opening properly. Oh well, adjusted the load so that smaller plates were left front and ran the wash again. Problem solved. Other than that, everything is fine. The Samsung still is very quiet, especially when running a full load. A bit more noise when half full or loaded with some large glass bowls. Funny, but when I first started looking for a new dishwasher I thought that Bosch was great. You know how when you go back to the Amazon page they list all kinds of stuff in the same category that you have been looking at and they listed a couple of Bosch dishwashers. Well, just checked them out and was surprised when I checked some reviews of similarly priced models to the Samsung and there were complaints regarding build quality ie the stainless steel interior being flimsy. No complaints here. The Samsung has a great build both inside and out. I haven't tried any of the wash cycles other than auto and sanitize so I can't comment on that. Might have to check them out. Anyway, I'm loving the Samsung. I'll turn it on at night and head to bed and TELL my wife that the dishwasher is on :).
One of the things I love about Amazon are the reviews so I try and add to them hoping that it will help someone else make a good decision. If anyone has any questions/comments, send 'em and I'll answer. Kind of surprised that nobody else has reviewed this model. Kinda lonely being the "one".
UPDATE: 10 months after purchase, the dishwasher stopped working. After waiting two weeks for a Samsung technician, he was unable to fix it, claiming he had the wrong part. To Samsung's credit, they called me the next day and offered to refund me my total purchase price for the appliance, which I accepted. I guess the moral is that this isn't the most reliable dishwasher on the market, but Samsung stood by their product, at least during the warranty period, and made me whole for my purchase.
We researched dishwashers to replace a Bosch dishwasher that had recently gone to dishwasher heaven. We had consistent trouble with the Bosch electronics which kept going bad, so we avoided them even though they are recommended in many reviews as the best, including Consumer Reports. We kept coming back to the Samsung DMT800 and 400 and finally settled on the 400. The biggest difference we could see was that the 800 had a delayed start feature which we knew we'd never use.
This dishwasher gets everything squeaky clean, and we do absolutely no pre-rinsing of our dishes. The Samsung is so quiet that you honestly can't tell that it's running! The ergonomics of the unit are beautiful, with the controls on top of the door so the lines on the front of the dishwasher are only broken by the curved handle and three inconspicuous blue LEDs that track the progress of the wash.
I have only one minor complaint and one warning. The complaint is that there is no indicator to show that the dishwasher is finished and contains clean dishes. Consider this scenario. I turn the dishwasher on before I leave the house. My wife comes home later in the afternoon and has no way of knowing that the wash inside the unit contains clean dishes. Not a biggee, but it would be nice to have something that showed the cycle has completed.
The warning is that this dishwasher is just a tad deeper than other dishwashers. Be careful that you measure accurately and that you have sufficient depth for the Samsung. We needed to take down the sheetrock behind the unit to gain the extra quarter inch we needed.
All in all, it looks like we made a wise choice. I wouldn't recommend Bosch due to our experience with repairs, and after the first 3 weeks, the Samsung seems to have been a wise choice.
UPDATE: We've owned this dishwasher now for a few months and still love it. One correction to the lack of a completion indicator I made above. If you choose "Sanitize", that light will remain on after the cycle to show that the dishes inside are clean. The right-most blue indicator on the front of the door that is actually is programmed to show that the load is completed goes off after 20 minutes. We choose Sanitize for all of our wash loads and it is how we tell whether the dishes inside are clean. The light will go off once the door is opened to empty the dishwasher and not come on again until the next cycle.
I'm assuming mine is an earlier version of this one. It looks just like it except I don't have the pretty lights on the front (bummer). It certainly looks beautiful but it does have pluses & minuses.
Pluses: love the adjustable racks and open spaces for large items; like the "bins" on the silverware holder so I can put small items in it & close the lid and not have them end up on the floor of the unit (to credit it I've never had a single item end up on the floor of the machine); nice heavy duty stainless interior; quiet operation (although it seems louder now than when I purchased it about 1.5 yrs ago, this may just be because the transition from my old machine was so noticeable, whereas, now I'm used to this one); unlike others, I love the way it dries, nothing warps or melts, it's great; and it generally cleans well.
Minuses: I don't know if it is the way my Pfaltzgraf dishes are made but they don't fit in the unit as well as in my old GE, the plates and bowls only stand up well on the rear rack/row of the machine, on the front side they roll out of position and then lean forward; similar problem with the glasses & cups, they only fit well on the first/outside rack, when I put them on the second row I have to hook them on prongs to fit them at all and then they are sort of staggered so it doesn't hold as many as it could; I have had issues with the silverware not always looking pristine (albeit, I do not load them the way they showed in the owner's manual, that would have required a lot of memorization or getting out the diagram every time I wanted to load the dishwasher since the order was not intuitive), when it happens it's only a couple of pieces and I'm guessing it's because of the way it was loaded so pilot error; I have also had where the soap did not dispense correctly on a couple of occasions I opened the door and the soap was globbed all around the dispenser, I do not know what caused this issue, I guessed maybe putting too much soap in, but I really don't know, I cleaned it up (the stainless interior cleans beautifully, btw) and re-ran it, a little aggravating, but again, I'm guessing it was something I did, not the machine.
Overall, it looks great and cleans well enough but I'm not happy with how the dishes fit. My recommendation is to take your dishes into a showroom and test fit them before you make a purchase (hard to do on Amazon, lol), that's what I'm going to do if I ever have to buy another dishwasher. The salesman may think you're crazy but if it causes you to switch choices you will be glad you did.
Update Sep 2012 I've downgraded from 3 to 2 stars. I had some weird sensor message like E9 and the machine wouldn't work at all. I had to get a tech out, who then had to order a part and come back and install it. I had my old cheapy GE for almost 25 years and it never broke down. It even still worked when we replaced it so I'm extremely disappointed to have this one break down after less than 2 years.
Update March 2013 I'm downgrading this again. I'm sick and tired of having to rewash dishes that this machine doesn't clean. I realize rings dried on my mugs from tea are more difficult to clean but my old cheap dishwasher managed, this one doesn't. I went without this machine for months while I waited for it to be fixed, and truthfully handwashing the dishes wasn't much different than using this dishwasher because I have so much prewash prep to do. I have to make sure there are no rings or debris on anything before I put it in or I have to do it by hand afterwards anyway. I've made certain all of my silverware had a space between it and the next piece for a long time, and even then, if it had been used to slice a banana or for peanut butter the chances were it would need to be rewashed, and this was after washing for 3 hrs and 2 mins (I rarely ever use the regular wash which is 2 hrs 14 mins because it washes so poorly I figure it needs all the help it can get), so now I wipe my silverware before I put it in as well!
I told myself that I would take the time to write a review since I rely on them so heavily in my own decision making process. I am slowly becoming a fan of all things Samsung, TVs, washer and dryer and now dishwasher! This machine is sleek looking and VERY quiet. I like the hidden buttons and the blue lights. It seems to have enough space and the 'normal' wash cycle only takes 2 hours start-to-finish (our old Kenmore took 3). I am, though, still trying to figure-out the best way to load the dishes as the rack and prongs are different than our old machine.

We've tried everything. We've loaded it differently. We've loaded it with plenty of space between the dishes and utensils. We've loaded it with an OCD meticulousness such that each plate was equidistant from the next. We've used more detergent, less detergent, different detergent -liquids, solids, gels, capsules. We tried different cycles (NORMAL, HEAVY, SMART AUTO)...
So what did we finally try that actually got the dishes clean?
I washed them by hand in very hot soapy water, then carefully placed them into this Samsung to let them drip dry.
Bottom line: This machine doesn't clean dishes very well. Which is unfortunate, see, because my wife and I were hoping it would be a *dishwasher.* In much the same way that we expect our toaster to, you know, TOAST. We assumed that a machine called a DISH-WASHER would do something like WASH DISHES. This machine *does* do an excellent job of baking tiny bits of food and grit into all the surfaces of dishes and glasses. (Can you sense my hostility? That's because when the *brand new* machine didn't get dishes spotlessly clean, I assumed it was because my wife had let our 4-year-old load it or something. Nope. This thing is flat-out terrible.)
This seemed to be a good refrigerator until it stopped running after less than three weeks. I'm waiting on repair Whirlpool couldn't schedule service for 72 hours but the dealer says he'll have someone out tomorrow.
I decided to try as a replacement for Kenmore filters for my refrigerator but have been very disappointed by the poor taste of the water during the first week of use. I will be returning under the satisfaction guarantee.
This refrigerator looks great, has nice features, but its design and functionality fall short of its physical appearance. I have had this refrigerator for almost exactly 3 years. When I bought it, it was $2300 (Best Buy...they had the lowest price), and as with all things electronic, the price has gone down some since then. My criticism begins with the water and ice dispenser. The water dispenses at an acceptable rate, but within the first month of installing the new water filter (which needs to be done every 4-6 mos and costs $50-60/filter, pretty pricey, but not as bad as buying bottled), the water pressure noticeably decreases to the point that by the end of month 2, it's painfully slow (I counted to 25 before I got an 8 oz glass of water). The ice dispenser is a disaster. It's almost impossible to get ice into a glass without ice going all over the floor. I suspect this is a combination of 2 things: the shape of the cube (they're elongated, and invariably they back up in the mouth of the dispenser or the glass or water bottle into which I'm trying to get ice because they turn sideways) and short length the chute out of which the ice is funneled--I suspect it needs to be longer. But these issues are more inconvenience which I can live with (although for $2300, I would expect these features to work as advertised).
Now for the actual malfunctioning. On month 13, the computer that controls the temperature started malfunctioning. Specifically, the water dispenser (yes, the dispenser that did so slowly) would NOT SHUT OFF. When I took my glass out from under the dispenser--get this!--it kept dispensing water. I nearly flooded my kitchen floor b/c I didn't know I could hold down the lock 'button' (there are no buttons--it's entirely flat touch screen) to override the dispenser. 3 weeks and a backordered part later, and the over-achieving water dispenser was fixed. (The technician, by the way, told me he's repaired some 10 or 12 units that have had the same problem.)
Fast-forward 2 years. The unit made some suspicious low groaning-like sounds. I knew this wasn't good. But they subsided. For a week. Then the sound came back, only exponentially louder now. Dog growling at this beautiful, sleek appliance that sounded more 747 than hi tech gadget, I called for repair. Same tech as before, identifies the problem as a leaking ice maker. Orders part. The next morning, the readout that should be displaying the freezer and refrigerator temperatures is instead reading 'EF'. Two unopened half gallons of ice cream are melted, and the refrigerator is clearly not cold. The bottom of the freezer however contains (thankfully) properly frozen food. Another call to Geek Squad (despite purchasing what I wrongly assumed was a quality product, I still opted for the 5-year platinum extended warranty, and now I'm so glad I did!), and they tell me this sounds like an entirely different problem.
Are the leaking ice maker and inability for the unit to stay cold related? Who knows. Frankly, it doesn't matter. I've had enough problems that I now know I will NEVER purchase an Electrolux refrigerator again.
Oh, and ease and efficiency of cleaning the unit? IMPOSSIBLE. You need tools (!) to unscrew the drawers to gain access to the bottom of the refrigerator and freezer, where debris easily collects and you can equally easily see.
From everything I've read and based on my experience with other major appliances, go with LG. If I have one more issue with this unit, I'm replacing it with an LG model.
***UPDATE 9/2/2012***
After having the refrigerator serviced for the issue I detailed above, it turned out the fan responsible for ventilating and cooling the unit was blocked by construction debris the builder failed to clean up prior to install. It's been working since the fan was cleaned, but the ice maker continues to leak in the freezer, where the water freezes into a large block in on the top freezer shelf, and the unit makes unusual buzzing sounds, which the tech has been unable to fix. My opinion about Electrolux refrigerators remains unchanged--I will not buy this brand when it comes time to replace it.
Garbage fail after 1 years use.
Unfortunately, as soon as I took it out of the box, I noticed that one of the rear vents was damaged. It looked as if someone took a hammer to it!! The box itself is not damaged, nor is the styrofoam that surrounded the product in the box. This means, it was damaged before they ever shipped it! How in the world do they not see the entire side having dents...and I mean...really noticeable dents... BEFORE they send it to the buyer??!! I requested a replacement and/or refund to cover the repair costs so let's see how their customer service is. Hopefully they get it right this time. I was so excited for it. Now it has just become a hassle to deal with.... A couple statements regarding the product itself...the frame is made of a rather light metal...you can literally press the vent itself with your finger and reshape the inlets. The drawers are a bit narrow. I can only fit 2 bottles on 3 of the 5 shelves in the red-wine section of the cooler. The unit itself looks nice though. It fits well in the apartment, and has a nice contemporary look to it.
I have had these in two brand new RV's and they have never worked. Not even at first. I return them to be fixed, the techs fiddle with it for awhile and say try this and bring it back if it doesn't work. Next trip. no fridge, return and start over. Eventually I get tired of them trying to fix it. AC electric has always worked. Fine when you're parked at home. Battery sucks dry in hours if you try to use that. Gas just never works. Will not light, will not stay lit. Even more frustrating because the switch is right next to the gas hot water heater. One touch and its on, never any problems so it's not like we can't build something that works. I'm completely through with Norcold.
I bought this product hoping to save a few bucks, go green, and also because my local Sears was out of stock of my particular filter. I followed the instructions, including the instruction to soak the filter in water for 15-20 mins before installing which seemed extremely odd to me.
the directions are a bit confusing, I couldn't determine which tab the jumper went on. It went down to trial and error.
I just received this wine cooler for a small bar I'm building for my basement. I purchased it with the matching beverage center and was very impressed initially with the build quality. It looks amazing and stores a lot of wine (33 bottles) even though it's only 15" wide. The only negative thing (why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5) is that of the 7 shelves only the top one holds larger wine bottles, but it does hold 5 of them. I will update this review once I install and use it for a few months.
Our LG refrigerator was about one year old when the ice maker started doing strange things. It would only make crushed ice and would leak water. It would also jam frequently. I had read that LG refrigerators were well known for this, but there was much speculation as to how to fix it. I figured I would start with a cheap option of replacing the bucket assembly since it was clearly cracked. It arrived much quicker than I ever expected and seems to cure the problem. It is so nice to have a fully functional ice maker once again.
