21-Bottle Dual Zone Thermoelectric Wine Cooler By Sunpentown

I recall having a Sunpentown frying pan a few years ago and remember throwing it out after a couple of months. Getting another Sunpentown product was probably not a very smart idea. If they made bad frying pans, I doubt you can expect much for a complicated wine storage system. Definitely not pursuing any design awards when they came up with this. Tacky and plastic looking with a supposedly high tech touch panel. I did not have high expectations for a 200 dollar plus wine chiller and could not have been more right. Set your expectations low. Very low. The touch panel was so misaligned that you would have to press a full inch to the side to activate it.

The unit claims to fit 21 bottles which it does, but try putting a slightly wider bottle in there and it wont fit unless you remove an entire shelf. I'm not sure if the dual zone is purely in appearance but there was at any given time only a 1 degree difference between the upper and lower. Even if you set the top zone to the maximum and the bottom to the minimum, both zones would just settle somewhere in between. I'm assuming it's a insulation failure between the top and bottom.

I was actually going to keep it out of sheer laziness, but when the bottom zone stopped running, it was obvious that no matter how forgiving I was, it would not work out. Not a life changing crisis by any means, but sometimes it's just good to learn from the past mistakes.

This product has been a big disappointment. It has never been able to cool to the temperatures set. The lowest it will reach is 60 degrees. The motor for the upper section died within a few months. I would not recommend this unit at all.

We have had ours for about a year and I noticed that often the temps would get much higher than I had it set (like up to the mid-60s). If I cleaned the screens on the back it would go back to normal though. But last week we were out of town for a week. When we got home it was reading 99 degrees!! I opened it up and all our wine was burning up. I think it was much much hotter than 99 degrees but that is the hottest the display could show. The corks were popping out of the wine and hundreds of dollars worth of wine were ruined. What concerns me even more is that if we didn't come home when we did it could have started a fire. Be careful if you get this.

Bought the winecooler regardless of reservation from reading negative comments on Amazon. Should have taken these reviews more seriously. The demise came gradually, first the top cooler temp kept creeping up, then came the bottem section temperature problem. One day, the engine noise became so labored that we had to unplug it. It never recovered.

It is a good looking piece of equipment, but for something that costs close to $300 without functioning for one year, it is a piece of crap.

I looked everywhere for something that could fit in my space with good reviews. I selected this product and shipping and everything was great. My biggest complaint is the amount of noise it makes and it has issues maintaining temperature.

I was given this unit as a gift about 2 years ago. We kept it in optimal temperatures, and cleaned the air filters regularly. Ventilation was not an issue.

Top cooler stop working after a year, and the lower cooler just went out. I tried finding replacement parts and no luck. You truly do get what you paid for. Needless to say, this one is going in the trash.

At first I liked the wine cooler with it's dual temp control, however the lower cooler went out on me. The display LCD read "Er" and when you went to the troubleshoot section on the manual, it stated that it was an error code, however it did not state how to clear or fix it. Thankfully I had 1 more month before my 1yr warranty would have expired. Don't know if I can recommend this product based on this experience.

Bought the cooler in March 2009. It worked well until a week ago, then the upper compartment went dead (no light, no cooling)and the lower compartment started emitting a ticking sound. Wrote to the company, here is their reply:

I love this unit, at the time of the purchase I liked it because the lower part is for the reds and I was drinking more reds. Love the dual zone, the light is great to find what you want before opening the door, great piece in any room. It does run alot or all the time, it sounds like a computer fan so it is not loud to the point of being a problem I have mine in the dining room and has never been an issue, most days we do not even notice it running. Bought March 2010

Update 4/27/11 the upper cooler keeps kicking in and out and not keeping temp anymore. The bottom is still working for now just waiting for that one to stop.

EdgeStar 1.1 Cu. Ft. Medical Freezer With Lock- White

EdgeStar 1.1 Cu. Ft. Medical Freezer With Lock- White
  • High quality deluxe compact upright freezer designed for all-purpose use
  • Low temperature operation and lock make this unit great for medical environments
  • Adjustable thermostat reaching minimum temperatures of -20 degree C under room-temperature conditions
  • Comes complete with lock and two keys
  • Dimensions: 19 1/2"h x 18 1/2"w x 17 3/4"d

We have just purchased this little freezer for our camping needs. It arrived timely and was packed very well. It is very powerful (freezes quickly) for a small freezer and is extremely quiet when running (you really have to get close to even tell its on!). I think it is going to be a fine addition to our camper.

Want EdgeStar 1.1 Cu. Ft. Medical Freezer With Lock- White Discount?

Purchased this for a medical research facility to store frozen medications and blood samples. In less than an hour the freezer was at -20 C. It now stays at roughly -30 C with very few temperature fluctuations. It is very small inside 1.1 cu ft, which is what we needed because we have limited space. It is quiet, light and attractive. You can switch the side the way the door opens. The lock is a standard refrigerator door lock.

I'm soon going to start building a custom Tear Drop Trailer From scratch. The kitchen will be the major focus, it will be my own version and totally custom to what I want in a camping kitchen. With a lot of thought and research, I felt as though I wanted a freezer in it rather than a fridge, I can build in a nice cooler as a fridge, keep things frozen and produce ice for the cooler.

Researching a fridge of this size just was not worth the space. Not very dependable for just food. The cooler will be 3 times in vol.

So, if your looking for a freezer of this size, this is it, it will not get warm enough to act as a fridge on low, it is still at zero degrees.

This is exactly what I needed for my project. I can fill it full of ice cube trays and have ice in less than 30 min. Probably 12 trays, thats a bag of ice in the woods. I also have a portable ice maker. So, this would be a backup if needed. At high, it will go to a neg 20 degrees. Running a 12 volt system with ac inverters, space is a must. This is an awesome FREEZER, not a fridge combo.

SquareTrade 4-Year Appliance Protection Plan ($300-350)

SquareTrade 4-Year Appliance Protection PlanI feel safe in havging something incase the appliance fails, and I got it at a very "Great" price .. Will buy it for other purchases...

Of course their warranty covers new products, what do you think Amazon sells more of?

In any case, I have Squaretrade warranties for my tvs, my refrigerator and dishwasher, and my receiver the service has been wonderful when I had to use it on my Onkyo SR707 receiver. I'd actually been looking on Squaretrade's website for something that covers kitchen appliances like my new Kitchenaid Artisan mixer. Kitchenaid's Artisan mixers don't have the best reputation for quality past a year's worth of use, and repairs would cost me about what I originally paid for the mixer after MIR, so a little extra peace of mind with a Squaretrade warranty doesn't hurt. (When considering that I will likely have to make use of it at some point.)

So spew oil Kitchenaid Artisan, grind your gears to dust Squaretrade has got my back.

  • Blue interior LED lighting displays your wine collection

I always do my due diligence when purchasing any product. We completely remodeled our kitchen last year and specifically built a spot for a wine fridge. My criterion for the fridge was: built-in, quite, reliable, shelves capable of fitting larger bottles, and memory for settings.

We received the unit in mid-April. I unpacked the until and let it sit in our kitchen for 36 hours to allow the oil in the unit to settle. I then installed the unit in the built-in place and set the temperature. The first 2 months the unit worked without significant issue. I would certainly not call it quite but it was not horrible. It did not drowned out the living room TV, but if the TV is off you could certainly tell the fridge was running.

The trouble began in month 3. We noticed the unit rattled. I move the unit out of the area and ensured the bolts were all tight and the motor area was clean. The issue went away. Then we have a power outage. Once it was back on the unit did NOT go back to its previous settings. I was highly disappointed in this result.

In August we started to see the unit fail. The temperate in the unit would not remain where we set it. A setting of 45 only dropped the temperature down to 60. I though the circuitry might need to be reset, so I turned the unit off and unplugged it. I then set it up again out side of the built in area. The unit worked fine outside of the cabinet. I then took measurements to make sure we had proper clearance all around the unit. It did. I then slid the unit half way into its spot. The temperate went up from 45 to 55.

I then contacted Edgestar support. I was told to ensure the coils were cleaned. To do this I emptied the unit and put it on its back after unplugging it. Then i wiped down the coils which were not dirty at all. I again allowed the unit to settle for 36 hours. After plugging it in it returned to 45 degrees outside the cabinet. Push it into place and the temperature shot up to 60.

I contacted Edgestar again and I was told I'd have to ship the unit to their warehouse, pre-pay at least $70.00 to cover the first hour of labor cost, and pay to ship it back. I am VERY lucky though as their warehouse is in Austin, Tx, where I live. However, to two-way ship something of this size plus pay for labor, it would cost nearly 40% of a new unit. I asked if they provide information for local contractors and they stated they do not have recommendations.

The fact this unit has a 90 day labor warranty and I have to ship such a large appliance back to a warehouse is very disappointing. Given the reviews on BBB and around the internet, I would STRONGLY advise you NOT TO PURCHASE from this company and definitely DO NO PURCHASE this product.

We purchased this wine cooler to replace a Magic Chef MC44DZ. My Magic Chef worked great for 2 years then quit. After waiting for 4 months for a compressor part that was covered under warranty I paid $180 to have it installed. The unit was so loud you could hear it in every room of the house and it would not cool either zone. Several phone calls to MC customer service proved totally useless threw the unit away will never buy another MC product again and don't recommend them to anyone.

We searched and searched for wine coolers in this capacity and price range before we ran across one that met all our requirements: # of good reviews, quiet, freestanding/built-in, dual-zone. We purchased from Living Direct with a 5yr. warranty product arrived without issue and was well packed.

The quality of the unit is much better than what we had. The door is solid double-pane glass with sturdy stainless steel surround. The wine racks are pretty solid, but the other reviews that talk about larger bottles not fitting are accurate only a tall slender 750ML works perfect for front & back stacking (reason for 4 instead of 5 stars). If you don't have the unit totally full of wine this shouldn't be a huge problem. Unit hit perfect temperatures very quickly and runs very quiet. The blue lighting looks great at night doesn't quite reach all the way to the bottom, but there are lights @ the top and under the middle divider.

Would highly recommend this unit.

Update 1/2013

A few weeks back the unit quit cooling. No noises or indicators, just happened to see both temperatures ~ 77 degrees. Contacted RepairMaster to initiate "in-house" warranty that we paid $100 something for @ time of purchase. Two weeks later no phone call from anyone. Contacted RepairMaster again (very lengthy on-hold times) finally got to someone that said EdgeStar appliances were ONLY repaired @ the factory and they would not ship parts to local repairmen. Contacted EdgeStar technical support and confirmed with factory in Austin, TX that the unit would need to be sent back to them for repair. RepairMaster offered to cover freight and repair costs they also said I could try a local repair man and they would reimburse me for that. Contacted Living Direct whom I purchased the unit from and told them it was probably not a good idea to advertise/sell an in-home warranty on a product that per manufacturer can't be serviced in home. I decided to roll the dice and call a local repair service to look @ the unit since I was not interested in crating it up and shipping it off. Local repair man (Thank you H&H Appliance Lecompte, LA GREAT SERVICE) replaced a relay in about 30 mins and unit is back up and running. Keeping my fingers crossed that it will continue to work without issue.

Had I known that EdgeStar was a company that would NOT work with local repair companies to replace electronic boards, compressors, etc. especially on such a simple appliance, I would not have purchased this unit. RepairMaster could improve their hold times on the phone, but they came through in the end. Living Direct should be very clear to customers about warranty expectations on this product when selling it to other customers.

Still a little frustrated about bottles fitting in the unit, but the unit still looks good and is VERY quiet. Hope to get a few more years of service...

We thought we did enough research on Edgestar products. Boy, were we wrong. The unit started having difficulty about 6 months after we got it. It started making rattling noises, so my husband unplugged it for a couple of days. When we plugged it back in, it seemed to work fine without the noise. A few weeks later, it went out. We were in the middle of moving and just did not have the time to deal with it. Once we did, we called the customer service only to be told that it was out of warranty (which is only 90 days)and there was nothing they would do. We took it to a local appliance repairman and he said the compressor was bad and it was not worth getting a new one. So disappointed after spending $800 and only getting 6 months of good use out of it. I will never buy another Edgestar product again.

Want New EdgeStar 46 Btl Built-In Dual Zone Wine Cooler Discount?

The shelves are so closely spaced that it is difficult to get the shelves in and out when full of wine bottles and to place and remove Bordeaux bottles. It is impossible to do the same with Burgundy bottles. If you don't mind scraping the labels off your bottles while struggling to get them in and out, then this might work for you. I consider it a big mistake for my needs unfortunately, it's mine now.

Bought this product a year ago and it no longer works. The warranty is terrible (90 days parts and labor/ 1 year parts only). If they truly made a good product the warranty would be at least 3 years. Do not buy this product.
