Ordered this unit after space limitations limited my options, but also performed web research on the company and product. It looks great, and keep your wine consistently chilled at the temperature set. My only negative, and it is significant, is the unit's noise. Every time the compressor kicks on, it is LOUD. Then it fades to an acceptable level. The problem however, the unit also vibrates to the point I'm calling in a service request (or it will be returned if not remedied). It is louder than two other fridges in the same space combined by far. I emptied the unit of all bottles, rechecked the leveling on the floor, and set it up a second time, no improvement. The vibration is from within the walls of the fridge, not the wine bottles or racks.Friday, February 28, 2014
Image® Mini Desktop Fridge Cooler Personal Fridge(Black,Plug and Play)
I take insulin. My spare units of insulin need to be kept cool. This is sometimes difficult while
traveling as long hours in a car and hotels without fridge units in the rooms make keeping the
insulin cool a problem. Now it is not a problem!! The unit can use the charger I use on my phone
in the car and in the room. Thank you for a great product!!You need a 'powered' USB hub which has a power cord, otherwise the hub is powered by the computer through the USB cable. Don't jilt the effectiveness of the refrigerator because it is working perfectly. The problem lies with the type of hub you have.
Buy Image® Mini Desktop Fridge Cooler Personal Fridge(Black,Plug and Play) Now
The product works pretty much as advertised IF you connect it to a computer USB port. If you connect it to a USB hub it barely gets cold.I didn't want to run the computer all the time just to keep the drink cold so I was hoping to run it off a hub. There is a little note in the package that says it may not run correctly off a hub but no mention of it in the advertising. I think it has something to do with the fact that hubs are only spec'd to provide 100 milli Watts per USB connection and computer USB connections are supposed to provide 500 milli Watts. I still hope to get it to work from a hub...they take practically no power while a computer uses at least 100 watts.
Amazon should mention this discrepancy in their product information.

Did you see the other USB fridge clones that Amazon has listed? I can't remember why I chose this one, but since I did, I will tell you what I think about it. This review may or may not apply to the others. But for this version, it should be accurate.First, like it has been said, it's not exactly a fridge. It's a hot plate with a bonus cooling fan that you can set a can-sized container on, with the surrounding box keeping some of the warmth/cool inside. I say some because the box is only about a 3/32-inch thick in most places, with no insulation of any kind. Containers with flat bottoms are recommended to reach and keep a desirable temperature. There is a magnetic seal on the door, but a latch would've been better. It does not support the weight of a unopened can, much less one that would be half full, so be careful of any unwanted drink port-a-potty tipping.
Yes, it actually warms up things, too. This listing is like the versions without the rocker switch on the cord. Dig a little and you will find this exact model design listed as a cooler/warmer. This was likely a slip-up, but I wish to imagine it as a designer's revenge for the last minute inclusion of an executive's need for it to "reverse cool, or make it so cold that it's hot, like frostbite" and the exclusion of a proper latch.
Here's the rocker switch layout (unexplained in the instructions):
| = Hot = red LED inside It might not be broken. It might just be flipped to the wrong side.
O = Off = off LED inside
|| = Cool = green LED inside This is likely the side of the switch that you want.
About the design: it's simple. Supposedly fragile (don't wish to stress test), but has some limited feel of integrity to it. Fan and plate rests in the bottom of the unit, inside the door, measuring just under 2 inches. Makes a slight whirring noise when cooling, but nothing while heating. The rest of the unit is roughly 5 and a half inches of soda space. Outside, there's some dated fridge design, complete with spite latch. Be careful: it might make your other devices, and even your choice of soda, seem needlessly extravagant.
Weight: small amount of heft at the bottom when empty. With a can inside, it feels like it has a can inside. Hey, who put this can inside my USB fridge?
System specs needed: A PC/Mac + 100 megabytes of storage space + 32 megabytes of RAM for this plug and play device... but all you really need is a USB port that utilizes some power source. For the sake of fun, I hooked it up for a solar-powered battery backup meant for charging portable devices, and it still worked.
---
If you have the extra money to spend on USB fridges, you could get this if you want one. Contrary to the negative portions of the above block of text I made, it's actually a decent device. I wanted something to cool down a drink, out of sheer impulsiveness. And I feel satisfied. You would be, too.
---
A silly thought: Honestly, I thought they couldn't afford to put a latch in. I was amazed when I found out that it had a magnet. This might sound dumb, but it's like they outdid themselves. It's somehow an awesome feature. I was expecting no seal whatsoever, and then magically, it's sealing. How? A magnet. WOW. Are you still taking me seriously after this? Gosh, I hope so. I don't know if I can.

This thing cools the bottom of the cans really well. Basically the fridge is a cold plate in a box. No circulation despite the cooling mechanism having a fan. You'd be better off to pass on this.Friday, January 24, 2014
Nostalgia Electrics Coca-Cola Series CRF170COKE 1.7 Cubic Foot Mini Fridge
Does not seem to be a gimmick fridge, it is truly a fridge because my cokes were indeed ICE COLD!!!
Bad News:
It buzzes and it breathes. Think of Darth Vader! Yes, that type of breathing sound! It is weird to say the least. I think it's good for a game room where you won't be sleeping, but if you're thinking about bedroom, FORGET IT! There is no break, no cycling as others have mentioned. For some reason, mine is a constant buzz, constant breathing. Maybe it's because I have the setting at "COOLEST," but why wouldn't you want your cokes to be as cold as can be?
A WORD ABOUT THE PACKAGING AND DELIVERY:
Now Amazon has pulled this product and I know exactly why since I bought it. It's kinda funny actually. It's shipped to you in it's retail box. Meaning they do not put it inside a real shipping box. They do put one of those plastic ribbons around it. There was only 1 ribbon! They didn't bother to secure it with a second cross ribbon. Anyway, shipping without a brown shipping box isn't anything out of the ordinary. Heck, my recent drill press from Amazon was shipped that way. It's not good if you live in a bad area and you're not home, and people can clearly see a brand spanking new Coke Fridge on your porch. However, that's not the problem. Once I was able to drag the box inside my house and I was lifting by the plastic ribbon, it was starting to slide to one side. Good thing it did not slide off!!! Because once inside the house, I cut the ribbon with a scissor, but I decided I needed to move the box to another room. I bend down to grab the box by its left and right side squatting like a weightlifter, when I got up the box felt very light. The fridge was still on the floor!! LOL! They apparently cut all four sides of the bottom with an exacto knife or something. Now do you see how dangerous it was for them to only put one plastic ribbon around the box?
I don't know if the packaging is prepared this way by Nostalgia Electronics, or if this is Amazon's idea of frustration free packaging. LOL! Anyway, I'm sure this is why they have pulled the item for the time being.
I'm going to return mine due to the noise and a ding/dent I found on the side of the door fridge, probably due to the lack of real packaging. But I will package it and return it to them better than how they delivered it to me.The item is cute and works well. People complained of noise, but I don't hear it at all over my radio (which is not loud) at work. It does keep items very cold. My complaint is the packaging. It arrived in it's original box within a packing box; however, there was no padding whatsoever. The fridge had a dent on the side and the top was scratched in a few spots. I didn't feel like packaging it back up since it keeps things cold, but I'm very annoyed that it was damaged before it even came out of the box.

LG LT500P-3 Vertical Refrigerator Water Filter, 3 Pack
These new filters cleared that up since new charcoal is always a lot better than old charcoal.
One thing to note is that these filters are not built by LG itself, by by a company authorized/contracted by LG to make these filters, if that matters to you.
While these filters aren't cheap (around $30 a piece), I ultimately decided to go this route rather than have to deal with some other shady vendors on Amazon, specifically a company that sold Swift Green filters for a low price that absolutely did not match the product description that they had on their Amazon webpage (they stated 900 gallons per filter, but it was only 300 gallons per filter). I returned those filters and went with these.
So be aware of the other products out there the marketing for these filters state 6-months or 500 gallons, and that's exactly what's on the box you receive. These were exactly what I needed for a great price! I recommend these to anyone needing this type of filter.

These are the genuine LG water filters that you'd buy at the local retail stores but much cheaper. I picked up one of these 6 months ago for $50+tax so buying this 3-pack was basically half-price. The genuine LG water filter does a great job water tastes great, no funky tastes. To me, the water even tastes better than the water I used to buy at the local water mart.Read Best Reviews of LG LT500P-3 Vertical Refrigerator Water Filter, 3 Pack Here
I've been using these filters now for over a year, and they are an excellent low cost replacement filter. The filter was easy to install and works with my refrigerator's change filter indicator light. The outer shell is thinner than higher cost filters, as a cost-savings measure. So you have to be a little careful not to force the filter when you replace it or you might damage it. But you shouldn't force the filter, period, no matter what you buy. I'm very pleased with this purchase and when it comes time to buy more, I will buy more of these.Want LG LT500P-3 Vertical Refrigerator Water Filter, 3 Pack Discount?
Having read a few comments on seller who ship Kenmore filter instead, I was quite concern. Although it may work the same, to me WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) is important when I buy stuff on-line.Well, I can tell you that I get what I was looking for. The shipment arrive on the second day. I did compare it side by side to the one that came with my LG fridge, exactly matched. I replace it and run water though as suggested. The water come out clear, clean, odorless and taste good. I have two units to spare, hence I will be a happy customer for at least a good 18 months (this is my first replacement after I get my fridge for almost 2 yrs).
I'll update this again in a few months.

Vinotemp VT-15TS 15 Bottle Touchscreen Wine Cooler, Black
- Touch screen control panel with safety lock function to prevent unwanted temperature changes in the cabinet
- Temperature range of 39-65-degrees fahrenheit
- Dual-paned glass door with magnetic seal maintains interior cooler temperature
- Storage features include slide out metal shelves and bulk storage space
- For freestanding installation only
PROS
----
room inside for large, upright, or corked bottles, flexible
well packed for shipment (better than R. Sayre's! -mine shipped from Amazon)
nice looking
door works smoothly
more cooling power
CONS
----
noisy (when the compressor kicks in, it hums)
some vibration from the compressor
wide (I have room for it, but you'd better check the dimensions)
only one temperature zone
I'm adding a special note about the packing because of R. Sayre's bad experience with doors getting ripped off. Mine, shipped from Amazon to here in Hawaii, was protected by styrofoam in an inner box, then that was suspended with foam corner offsets and more styrofoam panels within a larger box. And it arrived undamaged.
My old Vinotemp, Vinotemp VT-12TEDS-2Z Dual Zone Thermoelectric Wine Cooler, 12-Bottle, which broke at 16 months, was so cramped inside that getting a 1.5 liter or a tall Alsace/Mosel bottle into the fridge was difficult, but this model is much roomier inside, and it lets you stand some bottles upright, if you want to. I wouldn't want to put as many as 15 bottles in it, though. Unless you remove both shelves, I don't think you could get in more than 4 overly tall bottles standing up across the front. With the middle shelf removed, but the top shelf kept in and holding 4 standard sized bottles, I can fit 3 1.5 liter bottles standing up in front on the bottom, and additional standard bottles standing up behind them.

This unit replaces a small Avanti thermoelectric cooler, which while quiet, regularly blew its electrolytic capacitors. I tried twice with this order, and Amazon was quick with the replacement. But both coolers were destroyed during shipping. Had it survived shipping, the cooler appeared nice (though not rugged) and looked like it would serve my purposes (I particularly liked the flexible configuration and apparent capacity to hold longer/fatter bottles by standing them up. But there was very little cushioning in the packaging. Consequently the door was shattered / torn off the hinge when it arrived in both orders. Guess I'll look for it in a physical store. I wouldn't ordinarily downgrade for a shipping problem, but unless they change the packaging (or unless UPS handles the box with extraordinary delicacy), I don't think there's a likelihood yours will arrive intact. I order a lot from Amazon, and this is the first time I've run into a problem like this with a product.Want Vinotemp VT-15TS 15 Bottle Touchscreen Wine Cooler, Black Discount?
We purchased this product to store eggs & possibly other products to sale. We needed a small unit to fit under a table & this was the right size. It has a precise (digital) setting for the temp. & displays currant temp. at all times. We like the blue LED lighting also. It has worked perfect so far.If this was a bit less noisy, I may consider a 5 stars!Other than that , it is convenient.... Yes. 15 bottles can get in but I keep the red bull and sodas in the lower levels.

Kalorik Thermoelectric Dual-Zone 18-Bottle Ventilated Wine Cooler, Stainless Steel/Black
- 18-bottle dual-zone wine cooler with thermoelectric technology
- Digital controls with LCD display; 2-zone adjustable temperature
- 6-bottle upper compartment for white; 12-bottle lower compartment for red
- Soft LED lighting with on/off switch; auto defrost; double-paned tempered-glass door
- Measures 19-2/7 by 13-1/2 by 26 inches; 1-year limited warranty
On the other hand, if you keep your house or apartment fairly cool then you will have the ability to keep your wines at whatever temperature you most enjoy them along with fairly quiet operation.
-Cooling Ability
In regards to the unit's cooling ability I was initially concerned that any thermoelectric cooler wouldn't be able to stay cool in my apartment. From about 9:00PM to Noon the next day my apartment stays a relatively comfortable 76-77 degrees. However, starting at around 1:00PM the sun begins to hit the west side of my apartment and by late afternoon my AC cannot keep it cooler than 81 degrees. On occasion the temperature inside my apartment will hit 83 degrees in the afternoon even with the AC on. The good news is that this cooler can hold its own in these conditions. Because it has plenty of time during the night and morning to get down to its 50 degree setting it only drifts up slightly during the few hours of heat inside my apartment. In fact, I have not seen it get above 52 and usually it stays at 51. If you keep your place below 77 degrees you will not have difficulty getting the upper part of the cooler into the 40s from my experience (the lowest setting is 45). The bottom section stays at a rock solid 55 degrees in my apartment.
-Noise
It sounds like some people are buying this with the expectation of silent operation. I read the reviews so I knew it was going to be noisy, but from the reviews I read you would think it sounds like an aircraft trying to take off. It does make noise, but I have it on the other side of the wall from my living room and it is very difficult to hear. As long as it is one room removed from where you like to read, surf the web or whatever it should be fine. The TV easily drowns it out even in the same room.
-Other Thoughts
It looks nice, has a blue digital read-out on the front and a nice interior light. Overall, I am pleased with how it looks next to my bar. Mine arrived well packaged and with no damage which was a concern for me as I had read a lot of reviews reporting damage during shipping. In a year I will follow up to let you know how reliable it is. A couple of my taller wine bottles don't fit and champagne is a tight squeeze.
-Conclusion
I love it thus far. As long as it continues to perform the way it has it will be $189.00 well spent.
EDIT 11/11/10: I bought this in March 2009 and reviewed it in June 2009. It is still working exactly as stated in this review one year and eight months
later.
EDIT 05/07/2011: The lower compartment has lost its cooling ability. It has been just over two years since I made the purchase and the top of the unit is still keeping solidly at 55 degrees. It's a shame that the lower cooling unit seems to be over worked and just gives out over time. I am still using this unit but will probably retire it at some point and replace it with a higher quality one.
Buy Kalorik Thermoelectric Dual-Zone 18-Bottle Ventilated Wine Cooler, Stainless Steel/Black Now
We purchased this wine refrigerator in September. It ran without issue until February. Yes, a whole 5 months. At which point, it stopped working. Period. Will not turn on. Thus, I now have intimate knowledge of the "warranty" program. The warranty program is shoddy, at best. You have to provide the original receipt of purchase for Kalorik to evaluate (having original shipping box and label is inadequate). If they evaluate the receipt and determine that the product is under warranty, the purchaser (YOU) then has to pay the shipping costs to ship the product to Miami. The packing weight of the refrigerator and original box is 45 pounds. At this point, they will try to fix it or replace it. There is no additional warranty on the fix. Also, if they claim to have fixed it and it does not work when you get it back, you get to pay to ship it back to them again. If they cannot fix it, they ship you another one -maybe refurb, maybe new -I could not get clarity on what they would replace it with. However, that "other" unit does not come with an additional year of warranty. The person who provided these details on the warranty program is the person that answers the phone at Kalorik. It took no less than five times of being put on hold so that she could go ask someone else for clarity on my warranty questions. She could not email me a complete description of their warranty program, so it is anyone's guess if this program is administered the same way every time.Bottom line -cheap, shoddy, Chinese made product with some kind of warranty that requires you to pay half as much as the product to ship it to Miami to have it fixed. I would not buy this product again, or recommend it to anyone. Go with a wine refrigerator from a reputable company with written warranty policies.I would love to have been able to review this item. I really wanted to try it. But, I ordered one that arrived damaged. I ordered a replacement and it arrived more damaged than the first one. Until they can improve the packaging, this will never make it through shipping.First unit arrived with a cracked doorframe, no issues returning. Second unit worked great for approx 3 weeks, but now will not cool in the lower compartment. Thankfully it decided to break before the end of the Amazon return window as none of the reviews for manufacturer customer service have been positive!I reviewed this item when I first purchased it, a year ago, and because it was fairly inexpensive, and made in China, along with the fact that the first one they sent was broken, I had a negative view on this
cooler. Oops.....I was wrong. It has run perfectly, done a fine job of caring for my wine, and I sincerely regret doubting it was going to be worth its price. It is. I love the look of this stainless steel beauty with that cool blue light casting a glow on the bottles slumbering safely within it. Next bottle I open, I'll toast to it. It's caring for two 1978 Stag's Leap Cellars Cabernet and doing a perfectly
marvelous job. (update) Well, the thing did end up dying, after all. What a shame, I loved that glow. It still protects bottles, but doesn't chill. RIP, beautiful little cooler.

We received the unit in mid-April. I unpacked the until and let it sit in our kitchen for 36 hours to allow the oil in the unit to settle. I then installed the unit in the built-in place and set the temperature. The first 2 months the unit worked without significant issue. I would certainly not call it quite but it was not horrible. It did not drowned out the living room TV, but if the TV is off you could certainly tell the fridge was running.
The trouble began in month 3. We noticed the unit rattled. I move the unit out of the area and ensured the bolts were all tight and the motor area was clean. The issue went away. Then we have a power outage. Once it was back on the unit did NOT go back to its previous settings. I was highly disappointed in this result.
In August we started to see the unit fail. The temperate in the unit would not remain where we set it. A setting of 45 only dropped the temperature down to 60. I though the circuitry might need to be reset, so I turned the unit off and unplugged it. I then set it up again out side of the built in area. The unit worked fine outside of the cabinet. I then took measurements to make sure we had proper clearance all around the unit. It did. I then slid the unit half way into its spot. The temperate went up from 45 to 55.
I then contacted Edgestar support. I was told to ensure the coils were cleaned. To do this I emptied the unit and put it on its back after unplugging it. Then i wiped down the coils which were not dirty at all. I again allowed the unit to settle for 36 hours. After plugging it in it returned to 45 degrees outside the cabinet. Push it into place and the temperature shot up to 60.
I contacted Edgestar again and I was told I'd have to ship the unit to their warehouse, pre-pay at least $70.00 to cover the first hour of labor cost, and pay to ship it back. I am VERY lucky though as their warehouse is in Austin, Tx, where I live. However, to two-way ship something of this size plus pay for labor, it would cost nearly 40% of a new unit. I asked if they provide information for local contractors and they stated they do not have recommendations.
The fact this unit has a 90 day labor warranty and I have to ship such a large appliance back to a warehouse is very disappointing. Given the reviews on BBB and around the internet, I would STRONGLY advise you NOT TO PURCHASE from this company and definitely DO NO PURCHASE this product.

We purchased this wine cooler to replace a Magic Chef MC44DZ. My Magic Chef worked great for 2 years then quit. After waiting for 4 months for a compressor part that was covered under warranty I paid $180 to have it installed. The unit was so loud you could hear it in every room of the house and it would not cool either zone. Several phone calls to MC customer service proved totally useless threw the unit away will never buy another MC product again and don't recommend them to anyone. We searched and searched for wine coolers in this capacity and price range before we ran across one that met all our requirements: # of good reviews, quiet, freestanding/built-in, dual-zone. We purchased from Living Direct with a 5yr. warranty product arrived without issue and was well packed.
The quality of the unit is much better than what we had. The door is solid double-pane glass with sturdy stainless steel surround. The wine racks are pretty solid, but the other reviews that talk about larger bottles not fitting are accurate only a tall slender 750ML works perfect for front & back stacking (reason for 4 instead of 5 stars). If you don't have the unit totally full of wine this shouldn't be a huge problem. Unit hit perfect temperatures very quickly and runs very quiet. The blue lighting looks great at night doesn't quite reach all the way to the bottom, but there are lights @ the top and under the middle divider.
Would highly recommend this unit.
Update 1/2013
A few weeks back the unit quit cooling. No noises or indicators, just happened to see both temperatures ~ 77 degrees. Contacted RepairMaster to initiate "in-house" warranty that we paid $100 something for @ time of purchase. Two weeks later no phone call from anyone. Contacted RepairMaster again (very lengthy on-hold times) finally got to someone that said EdgeStar appliances were ONLY repaired @ the factory and they would not ship parts to local repairmen. Contacted EdgeStar technical support and confirmed with factory in Austin, TX that the unit would need to be sent back to them for repair. RepairMaster offered to cover freight and repair costs they also said I could try a local repair man and they would reimburse me for that. Contacted Living Direct whom I purchased the unit from and told them it was probably not a good idea to advertise/sell an in-home warranty on a product that per manufacturer can't be serviced in home. I decided to roll the dice and call a local repair service to look @ the unit since I was not interested in crating it up and shipping it off. Local repair man (Thank you H&H Appliance Lecompte, LA GREAT SERVICE) replaced a relay in about 30 mins and unit is back up and running. Keeping my fingers crossed that it will continue to work without issue.
Had I known that EdgeStar was a company that would NOT work with local repair companies to replace electronic boards, compressors, etc. especially on such a simple appliance, I would not have purchased this unit. RepairMaster could improve their hold times on the phone, but they came through in the end. Living Direct should be very clear to customers about warranty expectations on this product when selling it to other customers.
Still a little frustrated about bottles fitting in the unit, but the unit still looks good and is VERY quiet. Hope to get a few more years of service...

We thought we did enough research on Edgestar products. Boy, were we wrong. The unit started having difficulty about 6 months after we got it. It started making rattling noises, so my husband unplugged it for a couple of days. When we plugged it back in, it seemed to work fine without the noise. A few weeks later, it went out. We were in the middle of moving and just did not have the time to deal with it. Once we did, we called the customer service only to be told that it was out of warranty (which is only 90 days)and there was nothing they would do. We took it to a local appliance repairman and he said the compressor was bad and it was not worth getting a new one. So disappointed after spending $800 and only getting 6 months of good use out of it. I will never buy another Edgestar product again.Want New EdgeStar 46 Btl Built-In Dual Zone Wine Cooler Discount?
The shelves are so closely spaced that it is difficult to get the shelves in and out when full of wine bottles and to place and remove Bordeaux bottles. It is impossible to do the same with Burgundy bottles. If you don't mind scraping the labels off your bottles while struggling to get them in and out, then this might work for you. I consider it a big mistake for my needs unfortunately, it's mine now.Bought this product a year ago and it no longer works. The warranty is terrible (90 days parts and labor/ 1 year parts only). If they truly made a good product the warranty would be at least 3 years. Do not buy this product.Monday, July 15, 2013
