Whirlpool GI6FARXXB Gold 25.5 Cu. Ft. Black French Door Refrigerator - Energy Star

Whirlpool GI6FARXXB Gold 25.5 Cu. Ft. Black French Door Refrigerator - Energy Star
  • 6th Sense Technology
  • Accu-chill Temperature Management System
  • Tap Touch Electronic Controls
  • Dimensions (WHD): 35 5/8" X 70 1/8" X 35 1/4"

We wanted a French door refrigerator, but were discouraged by the negative reviews alll over the internet about the ice makers in all the brands. We initially purchased an Electrolux frig for $2,900, but the ice maker made no ice...at all....so we returned it. Then we purchased this Whirlpool Gold at Sears, using a competitive match price from Best Buy at $1,499 and absolutely love it! The ice maker is awesome and the rest of the frig is perfect as well. We have only had it two weeks, but have no complaints, which is saying a lot since all my research showed all the French Door refrigerators receiving such horrific ratings regardless of brand. On this particular unit, I read about strange noises that the frig makes but I've never owned a frig that didn't make strange noises so that doesn't bother me. Ice dropping in the tray sounds like ice dropping into a tray...what can I say. If ice consumption is an issue in your household like it is in ours, you will adore this frig. If I was forced to complain, I would suggest to Whirlpool that they put dividers into the wide deli drawer. But that's all, folks.

Aqua Fresh WF289 Refrigerator Water Filter

Aqua Fresh WF289 Refrigerator Water FilterFilter only provides adequate filtering for a couple of weeks, then gets progressively worse in the following weeks to the point where the water coming from the filter produces a strong odor that is far worse than whatever you might detect from the tap. Horrible quality, will avoid ALL products under this brand in the future.

In any of the documentation I have found on this filter at other sites (not enough info on Amazon), it looks like this filter is cheaper as it doesn't filter the same stuff. It states it is tested to NSF Standard 42 (Chlorine, Particulates), but the Samsung model is tested and **certified** by NSF for Standard 42 *and* 53 (Cysts, Lead, Asbestos, Benzene, et al.)

I purchased this item because I read the reviews stating that it is just as good as the OEM DA29-00003G. It left a very bad plastic-chemical aftertaste to the water. I followed the manufacturers directions to the tee. The bad aftertaste remained after several gallons of flushing the filter. I ended up returning them to be replaced by the Samsung OEM filter. I wish I would have had a good experience with this filter because it could have saved me a lot of money.

I've purchased this brand for many years from other websites without issues, but this filter did not install easily and squirted water all over the fridge, despite repeated attempts. Put old one back in and no problem. Thank goodness for amazon's return policy, but I will not buy this brand again.

Samsung RS263TDWP 26 Cu. Ft. White Side-By-Side Refrigerator - Energy Star

Samsung RS263TDWP 26 Cu. Ft. White Side-By-Side Refrigerator - Energy Star
  • 4 Glass Shelves
  • LED Lighting
  • Twin Cooling System
  • Six Temperature Sensors
  • Power Freeze/Cool Options

Works well so far since we bought it 1.5 years ago. Two door bins have cracked, costing around $60 dollars. Our past refrigerators did not cost us much, each for more than 10 years of service. Those door bins were sturdy, from Wirlpool and GE.

More frustrating is that we cannot buy the spare parts. One of the door bins is described as "not available from the manufacturer" across the internet, including Sears Parts. Our Sears sales man told us manufacturers were supposed to keep parts available for at least 10 years by law. Go figure.

I do like the fact that the refrigerate side is not nearly as dry as the old fridges, due to the so called twin-cooing, or dual evaporator system.

Buy Samsung RS263TDWP 26 Cu. Ft. White Side-By-Side Refrigerator - Energy Star Now

This review is being written as a warning to consumers considering buying a Samsung refrigerator.

Prior to this (over a 36 year period) we've owned 2 Kenmore fridges which were reliable and durable, and gave us long service. We bought our SAUMSUNG at a Sears scratch and dent outlet. Various manufacturer's refrigerators were available for us to choose from we chose the Samsung based on price, features and design without researching the product since we had to replace our failing fridge quickly. Of course, buying in a hurry is always a gamble, and the house has the odds. We got a good price, but was it a good value? Read on and judge for yourself.

Recently our Samsung RS263TDWP circulating fan started making a noise which sounded like it was coming in contact with something. After investigating online for known issues I was disappointed to find a class action lawsuit dated October 2010 () where the plantiff complaints describe the fan noise as a precurser to complete failure of the circulating fan, heater element and cooling coils.

Specific to SAMSUNG refrigerators: the cooling coils have a heater element designed to de-ice the cooling coils from time to time. When the heater element fails the cooling coil builds up ice. If enough ice builds up it will impede the circulating fan. Once the circulating fan can no longer circulate cool air within the refrigerator the temperature rises and your food spoils.

Some people had problems within weeks, others experienced problems one, two, or three years from date of purchase. I don't recall reading about anyone having the issue greater than 5 years after buying the fridge, so I would expect a life of LESS THAN 5 years for this product. According to the class action lawsuit, the average side-by-side is expected to live ~12 years, bottom freezer models ~17 years.

Despite the recent fan noise our Samsung fridge has been functioning adequately. The ice maker works like new, and cooling is still good, but we are keeping a close watch on it. If, in fact, the circulating fan is hitting an ice build up it won't be long before the inevitable happens and the fan stops moving altogether. As this review is being written the circulating fan just turned on again and the noise coming from the refrigerator is getting louder and deeper.

Based on the class action lawsuit and potential for serious monetary losses I would advise against buying ANY SAMSUNG fridge. You'll spend more on SAMSUNG in the long run and experience frustration along the way.

IF YOU RELY ON YOUR REFRIGERATOR TO COOL LIVE-SAVING MEDICINES DO NOT BUY SAMSUNG.

Pay your money up front for a better product and save yourself the hassle and risk.

How in the world does a filter that is supposed to remove so much introduce what looks like talcum powder floating around in the water I am supposed to drink. The old unit did not have this problem and water from the tap does not have this problem.

GE GSHS6HGDSS 25.9 Cu. Ft. Stainless Steel Side-By-Side Refrigerator - Energy Star

GE GSHS6HGDSS 25.9 Cu. Ft. Stainless Steel Side-By-Side Refrigerator - Energy StarI have be all over the internet and town to look for a good refrigerator. the one i had for the last fourteen years is starting to leak and break down; my husband and i knew that we needed one but which one? i went to sears and we found some nice refrigerators but, they wanted alot for a warranty while the other appliance stores were cheaper. we ended up at home depot and it was on sale at a great price. i have always wanted to upgrade but did not know what features i wanted for instance i knew that i wanted an ice maker, and a water dispenser. with all the new technology i have trouble decideing especially at the different prices and now there are the french doors and the four doors with the $3000.00 price tags. it was like buying a house again. we found it at home depot for under $1200.00 with alot of the feature of the pricey ones. the second draw in the frigde is smaller than it looks check it out before you buy if that is a deal breaker. i love my refrigerator lots of room and storage at eye level and i am 5'7.

Electrolux EI24BC65GS IQ-Touch 24" 6 Cu. Ft. Stainless Steel Beverage Center

Electrolux EI24BC65GS IQ-Touch 24' 6 Cu. Ft. Stainless Steel Beverage Center
  • Reversible side-swing door with integrated electronic controls located conveniently on the top of the door ensure this unit will fit anywhere.
  • Shelves are so smooth they extend effortlessly.
  • Luxury-Glide Glass Shelves
  • Their ramp-up designer LED lighting is as beautiful as it is functional, keeping your beverages clearly visible.
  • Tinted window helps protect wine's flavor from deterioration caused by harmful UV rays.

We have had several beverage centers at various houses but they did not keep pop and beer as cold as we prefer. We were leary to order an appliance over the Internet sight unseen, but this Electrolux unit was the exact size and appearance that we were looking for plus all the reviews indicated that it keeps drinks cold. It arrived within a week, was easy to install, looks beautiful, and keeps pop and beer very cold...we keep it set at 35 degrees, which most units can't achieve. Also, the shelves slide out so it is easy to stock the fridge and/or grab things from the back. We are thrilled with this purchase!

Avanti AC/DC Superconductor Refrigerator, Model# SHP1712SDC

Avanti AC/DC Superconductor Refrigerator, Model# SHP1712SDC
  • Features full-range temperature control, soft interior light with on/off switch and auto defrost
  • Tall bottle rack on door holds a 2-liter bottle
  • Adjustable, removable shelf
  • Stainless steel door has reversible swing
  • Includes 5-ft. AC power cord and 6-ft. DC power cord

The fridge arrived with several large dents as other reviewers have mentioned they only include 1/4 inch of Styrofoam for packaging. It also would not turn on... upon further inspection I could see the internal AC hot and common connections were disconnected so I opened it up and plugged those back in.

I put a remote temperature sensor in the fridge and let it cool to 32 degrees (cold as it will get on high) then put a 20 oz pop bottle in that was full of 80F degree water. It took 3 hours to cool to below 40 degrees and it actually warmed the air temp of the fridge up to 42 at one point. If you put a lot of room temp stuff in there I imagine it would take at least 24 hours to cool it all.

Pros:

-Lightweight (really easy to move it only weighs like 23 pounds)

-Efficient (pulls less than 100 watts and keeps stuff cold)

-AD/DC modes is nice

-No moving parts except for heatsink fan and coldsink fan.

-Lots of space, due to the lightweight frame/insulation and lack of compressor what you see is practically what you get.

Cons:

-Lightweight (don't drop it or you'll definitely add to the dents from shipping, also the insulation can't be that great at that thickness)

-Not very powerful, it will take quite a while to cool things down and cannot handle high air temps or direct sunlight.

-As other reviewers have mentioned you can count on it being damaged in shipping. Ours arrived with one of the back corners crushed and a couple good sized dents in the rear panel. It also had apparently jostled loose the internal AC connections.

-Made in china, and it feels like it too.

Summary: It works pretty well for its intended purpose and although it feels cheap and likely to breakdown luckily there really isn't that much that is likely to break since there is no compressor and the only moving parts are two small fans. If you can't accept cosmetic damage from shipping definitely don't bother. I intend to run it on DC to store products at a farmers market, I'll update the review if it craps out on me.

Update 7/6/2011: It's starting to get rather warm here in southern Idaho and the fridge has a hard time keeping up with air temperatures at/over 80s. As expected you certainly have to be careful to keep it out of direct sunlight or it'll turn into an easy bake oven. Somewhat disappointing because I intended to use it outdoors but if you're using it somewhere that is shaded and climate controlled you'll be fine.

I have used this fridge once in my new custom goat trailer with living quarters. Worked very well on DC power in the trailer and AC in the house for a test run. My only complaint is that the product was dented when shipped. We determined the dents would not effect operation and therefore not worth sending back to manufacturer. The unit runs fine, just the housing was dinged.

I bought this refrigerator with the Idea I would use it in a grid collapse for my insulin. I have solar panels and big batteries. If you are looking for a refrigerator for your insulin, don't buy this one it will quit on you, then you can wait two days and it will start working again after you unplugged it. It is a good party refrigerator used intermittently but it is not reliable temperature control. Buy a small unit with a compressor instead of this for medication temperature control.

Just received our Avanti fridge for one of our truck drivers. Like everyone said, it came with some dented corners and beat up box but it seems to work fine in the house on an A/C test run. For the price, seems like a great little fridge. We'll see how it holds up to the highway miles.

after reading the online info, I was excited to give this fridge a go in my small RV. It arrived with no dents or dings from shipping and looked great. Plugged it into the wall and worked great to cool off for a few days before moving it to the RV. When I tried to run it off DC, I got nothing. No power. I tried it with several different vehicles/batteries, but no power (despite reading power through the cord with a volt-meter). Called Avanti and they sent me a replacement fridge quickly--cool! Unfortunately the new one wouldn't run on DC either. I called Avanti again. They send out a new cord. Success! It worked for about a week before dying...no DC again. I'm in the middle of a refund request with amazon's seller.

I think that this is a great fridge for those who want to run it on AC power. Maybe I just had bad luck with DC, but it seems odd that 2 units and 3 cords have all failed now (under 4 months from my original purchase). Even during the week it worked on DC, it drew 7 amps regularly, and ran for most of the day, which is a lot for most RV batteries. I'm not impressed for RV use.

I purchased this and it never worked from day 1. I set it for 3C but it rarely hits 3C, most of the time it's 7C or 8C... Electrolux customer service was terrible, never called me, I called almost a dozen times, and 4 months later, they finally decided to replace it. But guess what ? The replacement isn't keeping the temperature either.. I've got nothing in it, and it's showing 8C when it's set at 3C...

I'm sooo pissed. I would return it if I could. I have a $2k lemon...

Vinotemp VT-12TEDi 12-Bottle Thermoelectric Wine Cooler, Black

Vinotemp VT-12TEDi 12-Bottle Thermoelectric Wine Cooler, Black
  • Sleek, black and stainless mirrored design offers an exclusive modern look
  • Dual-paned glass door offers additional insulation and uv protection
  • Touchscreen control panel located on the cooler door let you set the temperature without opening the door
  • Three sturdy wire pull-out shelves
  • Temperature range of 50 to 66-degree fahrenheit

I had a Kitchen Aid countertop wine cooler which lasted less than one year. After researching all of the top selling 8+ bottle countertop versions, I purchased the Vinotemp from Costco. It lasted 18 months and stopped chilling. Since I regularly cleaned the fan and vent; I contacted Vinotemp. As the previous review states, they recommended purchasing a new control board. I spent $45 for the board including shipping and installed only to have the entire unit fail to reach any temperature below 79 degrees. It is my understanding that countertop coolers typically last 12-24 months due to the built-in obsolescence of the cooling units. I would not buy this size again and suggest investing in the built-in.

Buy Vinotemp VT-12TEDi 12-Bottle Thermoelectric Wine Cooler, Black Now

It will work reasonably well for about 4 months to a year or so and then it will break and the company will do nothing to help you fix it, except offer to sell you an expensive replacement board that is just as defective as the one that just broke. Do a bit of research and do not buy this. I've had two of them after being able to return my first to Costco for a replacement. Second broke just like the first did. If you insist on buying this, you will be replacing it every year.

Received this wine cooler as a wedding gift within 2 years had same issues as others report and when contacted the company all they said was "you need to buy a replacement control board" and "we cannot guarantee this will solve the problem" which with shipping costs $45. I could purchase a better, more reliable unit for just over $100 and seems silly to replace a control board that is likely to once again break. I do not recommend this product.

I've had this for a few years now, didn't get it from Amazon but still felt compelled to write a review.

Like everyone else, my unit died on me about two years after I purchased it. I looked into options about fixing it and a new controller board (~$40) was one of them. However, on closer inspection of the controller board, it looked like one of the capacitors was busted (the end of it bubbles out). A little solder work and a new capacitor (~$2 total) and it was working as good as new! I've had it for a year and a half since then with no issues.

If you feel up to the task of fixing the unit and want to get it cheap, look for a broken one on craigslist.

I, too, called service @ VinoTemp. Waited on hold for 25 minutes. Confirmed with service that a new board is $47 + $15 shipping = $62.00. I bought mid-2009 from Best Buy for $108.00, so clearly out of their 90-day service window.

Probably best to just ditch it.

However, for you do-it-yourselfers, if you want to fix it, there is a link on their site with instructions.
