Another negative you will see, is an ice maker that clogs and is troublesome. Especially when going from cubed to crushed ice. I didn't find this, but I did find an occasional issue that sometimes when I go for a cup of ice, it doesn't dispense ice at first, and I have to remove my glass, and reapply. This always works fine. One thing I do notice fairly regularly, is that you sometimes get a 1/4 cup of water out of the ice dispensor before it dispenses ice.
Fit and finish, is an issue, but not for me. The right door is a 1/4 inch higher than the left, and so is the handle, but I don't really mind that.
Another issue I found is a complaint about the vegatable bins not being on rollers and hard to move. They aren't on rollers, but I haven't had an issue with them. One issue I did notice however, is that if you have something heavy on the shelf in the middle, say a large gallon or more of apple cider, the shelf tends to bow slightly.
Altogether, if the fridge lasts. I will be happy with my purchase. If the ice maker jams, I am confident in my abilities to fix it. The whole contraption comes out, which is handy. If it clogs, take it out, and let it thaw out on the counter.
If you find it is noisy(a buzzing sound) pull it out from the wall, and while the compressor runs, move your finger around on the card board on the back to see if you can isolate the sound.
Good luck!
Mark :)From my wife Sarah: We've had this for a couple years, and here are a few pros and cons:
Pros:
We haven't found it to be at all noisy as some of the other posters have mentioned. It's very quiet.
It does a good job of cooling consistently throughout the unit. Our last refrigerator froze food in some areas of the refrigerator section, and didn't keep some areas cool enough. This unit does not have this issue.
We like the water and ice dispenser. You can have cubes, crushed ice, or ice cold water. We like that there's a water filter built in to the unit, and it is easy to change.
The design is convenient and spaced out nicely.
It's run smoothly with no issues at all.
We find it to be nice looking.
Cons:
The drawers are flimsy. One draw continually gets stuck and it's hard to open and close. It actually cracked because it was sticking.
So the pros are stronger then the cons by far, and based on our experience, I'd say that it's a decent choice for the money. When I first purchased the Whirlpool side-by-side I thought this was a great fridge and for the first 16 months it functioned fine. Then of all days on April 1st (I know April fool) the refrigerator simply stopped cooling and I could hear the compressor engage and run for a brief period and then turn off. Service confirmed my worst fears that the compressor did indeed fail and would have to be replaced at a cost of $600.
THE WARANTEE FROM WHIRLPOOL IS ONLY FOR ONE-YEAR ON ALL PARTS INCLUDING THE COMPRESSOR so I basically have a worthless box. Calls to Whirlpool simply result in meaningless apologies with the response they will do nothing to rectify the problem. If you check the warantee from other manufacturers such as LG or Samsung you will find that the "sealed cooling system" is guaranteed at least 5 years.
My advice is to stay away from Whirlpool for they will not back their product. And remember they also make Maytag and Amana. And this is from a long time Whirlpool customer.I went through a year of 11 services calls for them to tell me that me year is up and to bad for me. They told me literally that they do not care and I need to deal with my problem and they are not going to do anything about it. It has been over a year. Same issue 11 services calls no resolution.
Whirlpool is the worst customer services EVER. Read the blogs. go to the whirlpool issues facebook site, and see how many people agree.Have had this for about three years, and not an operational problem in that time. At the time it was the only fridge that would fit in the opening of the older home we purchased. Yes, the freezer side is somewhat narrow, but there's still quite a bit of space. Things I like that aren't on all (even more expensive) units: separate paddles for water and ice, and the ability to leave on the water cavity light (two brightness settings). When I come out in the middle of the night half-asleep it's nice not to have to change settings like on some single-paddle units. Also the water filter is a snap to change and located out in the open, as opposed to some fridges having them inside where you have to remove food to get at it.
Realistically you could spend 2-3x's (or more) on a fridge. For what this costs it's a nice unit. We have called Whirlpool before for service (for Kitchenaid products, not this) and their service has been top-notch, unlike Samsung.

We had a fridge that came with a basket like this years ago, and I forgot to take it with us when we bought a new fridge. My eggs sat in the dirty carton, from the store. This neat little item, keeps the eggs in a handy carrier (which is great for when you need to take multiple eggs out, for baking or Easter Egg dying, when taking them out of the fridge). It also allows for a constant site count for your supplies can't see how many you have in a closed carton. Yes, I know that you can cut off the top of the carton, for the same thing, but --this item holds 14 eggs in total and it's CLEAN which is something that the store carton cannot promise when you know that the eggs have been in and out from all sorts of places. When things like raw eggs are involved, I'd prefer to have a nice clean egg carrier for mine. Plus, you can store two extra eggs, in this item a neat little something, for when you have two eggs left, from last weeks shopping trip! :o)Read Best Reviews of Whirlpool Part Number 67004411: TRAY-EGG Here
My Mother had one of these egg trays when I was growing up so when I saw this one I had to have it. And I love the convenience of it. The handle makes it so easy to take in and out of the refrigerator. It is very sturdy and well made and I do not miss the egg crate trays from the grocery store! It is nice to open the door of my refrigerator and see this tray. For the first time ever on Amazon I ordered an item and it wasn't what was descirbed. I specificallly wanted a12 egg door tray for my whirlpool fridge. Once i saw it on the amazon site read the reviews and ordered it right away. But once received it was a 14 egg tray which although it is of good quality it didn't fit on the door of the fridge. I went through the process of requesting a return and to my suprise I was given a full refund and shipping refund. Also the company told me I didn't have to return it. So I have it in my fridge which holds only 12 eggs for us each week, but it takes up room in the fridge, and since I need all the extra space I can get this doesnt really help me but I guess It was a nice gesture on the companies part. Installed this to replace a 12-year old burned out single-element heater. It was a perfect fit, but nearly immediately the refrigerator and freezer components emitted a putrid burning smell. Over the next week, I validated the heater still worked by checking for the heater glow everything I heard the compressor click off. After a little more than a week, I could no longer stand food and ice tasting of burned plastic, so I removed the heater and found the plastic ends and part of the inside of one of the coils melted.Today I noticed the smell is gone (with thanks to 4 well-placed boxes of baking soda), but found ice build-up on the back wall, so I assume the defrost heater is toast. I'm ordering a genuine one to replace this one, since my original GE part lasted 12 years and this one, just a little over 12 days.
Too good to be true.

Vinotemp VT-15TS 15 Bottle Touchscreen Wine Cooler, Black
- Touch screen control panel with safety lock function to prevent unwanted temperature changes in the cabinet
- Temperature range of 39-65-degrees fahrenheit
- Dual-paned glass door with magnetic seal maintains interior cooler temperature
- Storage features include slide out metal shelves and bulk storage space
- For freestanding installation only
PROS
----
room inside for large, upright, or corked bottles, flexible
well packed for shipment (better than R. Sayre's! -mine shipped from Amazon)
nice looking
door works smoothly
more cooling power
CONS
----
noisy (when the compressor kicks in, it hums)
some vibration from the compressor
wide (I have room for it, but you'd better check the dimensions)
only one temperature zone
I'm adding a special note about the packing because of R. Sayre's bad experience with doors getting ripped off. Mine, shipped from Amazon to here in Hawaii, was protected by styrofoam in an inner box, then that was suspended with foam corner offsets and more styrofoam panels within a larger box. And it arrived undamaged.
My old Vinotemp, Vinotemp VT-12TEDS-2Z Dual Zone Thermoelectric Wine Cooler, 12-Bottle, which broke at 16 months, was so cramped inside that getting a 1.5 liter or a tall Alsace/Mosel bottle into the fridge was difficult, but this model is much roomier inside, and it lets you stand some bottles upright, if you want to. I wouldn't want to put as many as 15 bottles in it, though. Unless you remove both shelves, I don't think you could get in more than 4 overly tall bottles standing up across the front. With the middle shelf removed, but the top shelf kept in and holding 4 standard sized bottles, I can fit 3 1.5 liter bottles standing up in front on the bottom, and additional standard bottles standing up behind them.

This unit replaces a small Avanti thermoelectric cooler, which while quiet, regularly blew its electrolytic capacitors. In comparison, this unit is a little bit of an upgrade, having a better control panel for the temperature. It is a little noisy, but only to be expected.Read Best Reviews of Vinotemp VT-15TS 15 Bottle Touchscreen Wine Cooler, Black Here
I tried twice with this order, and Amazon was quick with the replacement. But both coolers were destroyed during shipping. Had it survived shipping, the cooler appeared nice (though not rugged) and looked like it would serve my purposes (I particularly liked the flexible configuration and apparent capacity to hold longer/fatter bottles by standing them up. But there was very little cushioning in the packaging. Consequently the door was shattered / torn off the hinge when it arrived in both orders. Guess I'll look for it in a physical store. I wouldn't ordinarily downgrade for a shipping problem, but unless they change the packaging (or unless UPS handles the box with extraordinary delicacy), I don't think there's a likelihood yours will arrive intact. I order a lot from Amazon, and this is the first time I've run into a problem like this with a product.Want Vinotemp VT-15TS 15 Bottle Touchscreen Wine Cooler, Black Discount?
We purchased this product to store eggs & possibly other products to sale. We needed a small unit to fit under a table & this was the right size. It has a precise (digital) setting for the temp. & displays currant temp. at all times. We like the blue LED lighting also. It has worked perfect so far.If this was a bit less noisy, I may consider a 5 stars!Other than that , it is convenient.... Yes. 15 bottles can get in but I keep the red bull and sodas in the lower levels.

GE GDSS0KCXSS 20.2 Cu. Ft. Stainless Steel Bottom Freezer Refrigerator - Energy Star
- ALWAYS FREE SHIPPING WITHIN THE USA
I got on the GE website and scheduled a service appointment. The repairman finally came at 5:30 p.m. after I was home waiting for him all day long, but he did come on the day he said he would.
He inspected the fridge, told me the thermostat regulator for the top section had gone kaput, and installed a new one. I asked him how long that part was guaranteed for and he said five years.
I almost hit the roof. My previous fridge had been a top-freezer GE which lasted 17 years and was still in good working order when I tossed it. For $1300, I told the repairman, I expect everything in that fridge to last 100 years minimum and not a day less.
Anyway, the fridge worked fine again until last week, when I noticed it wasn't cold enough. Back to the GE website to make another service appointment. This time they sent the same guy but at least he came early.
He opened the fridge, and voila! The fan had up and died.
He replaced the fan, put everything back together nicely, and handed me a bill for $246.15. Labor: $194.99. Tax: $17.49. Fan: $2.98. I shelled out over two hundred bucks to replace a piece of plastic that cost $2.98.
GE, you've been warned. If anything else in that fridge conks out before 2025, I'm tossing the whole thing out and buying a Kitchen-Aid.
Judy Lind
UPDATE 8/15/11:
Holy-freaking-moly, would you believe this thing has conked out AGAIN?! For the THIRD TIME in SEVEN YEARS?!
Forget the repairman. Forget GE altogether. I'll be hanged if I'm shelling out another $250 to fix this dog. I will never, ever buy another GE product in this life or the next one. Kitchen-Aid, here I come.

GE PHS925STSS Profile 30" Stainless Steel Electric Slide-In Induction Range - Convection
It is beautifully made, very sleek and modern, and works like a dream. All fans on it (convection and component cooling) are whisper quiet. The control board is located on the front (unlike the free-standing model) and is very intuitive to use. It is definitely what I call "granny friendly," i.e. even those from the non-digital age will be able to use it easily.
The oven is very spacious and at high altitude only took 13 minutes to heat from cold to 425 degrees. I especially love the sliding rack and will be replacing the other two standard racks with those. Even at 425 degrees, the front of the oven door remained cool to the touch, suggesting that this stove is very well insulated. The first batch of cookies in it came out beautifully and the timing was +/1 minute from my usual recipe so I call that spot on.
The first time I used the stovetop, I put pan down, turned the heat to 5 and dropped in a pat of butter which began to melt *instantly* and I do mean instantly. Water boils in no time, and clean-up is a breeze.
The pans I am using are: Cuisinart FCT-10 French Classic Tri-Ply Stainless 10-Piece Cookware Set and they work fantastically with this stove.
I could not be more thrilled, and will update this review as time goes on.I purchased my GE PHS9252STSS 30" slide in Induction Range from Pacific Sales after reading Consumer Reports, Gardenweb forums and other reviews.
I installed it and wired a 4 ft x 4 prong wire so that it could easily fit behind the range (match the colors, black to black, white to white, green to green and pink to red). Also installed the anti-tip bracket to the floor tile.
I went out and purchased a new 13 piece 18/10 Stainless Steel cookware set from Costco for around $180. The induction burners are great, they heat up very quickly. You can boil water in like 90seconds. Very precise and quick heat control, when you turn it down, within seconds, you can see heat change. Since the new cookware is magnetic, once you lift the pan, the burner will turn off after 20 seconds or so (initially it will blink). This way you can never leave them on accidentally as long as no pan remains on top.
Clean up is a snap with Cerama Bryte glass cooktop cleaner once a week, otherwise mild soap and water is enough.
The oven does take time to heat up, if you set it for 325C, temperature starts at 100C, changes 1 degree every 10 seconds or so, so expect to wait 8-10minutes. Then it can maintain the temperature easily. It has an electronic beeping sound when your timer is complete or your bake temperature is reached. I wish it was a little louder. Otherwise the oven works great.
You have to run the self clean cycle the first time for over 3 hours as there is a strange odor from the oven when you use it each time.
I have had the range for a week and both the wife and I love it. The switch from electric to induction was the right move. I did purchase a 5 year extended warranty as the technology is new and did not want to take any chances.
Highly recommended, paid around $2200 for my range.

I purchased this range with the advantum 120 microwave oven. So far both items are wonderful. I enjoy using my stove top for the heat accuracy and speed. It heats rapidly with steel or iron pots and pans. You can use aluminum if you use a heat transfer disc. The oven is typical for this product and works well. After looking at numerous reviews; including those at Amazon. I concur fully with the reviewer-" Meet Jane JetsonLove this Range" This George Jetson Loves it Too!Made in USA; flexiblity of gas; energy efficent; oven retains heat.
My recommendation to all-take time to read the manual.
I agree the oven takes longer to eat up; but with convection on we got great homemade chocolate chip cookies and bread.Good looking range.
Yes we had to buy new cookware. All Clad D5 (non-stick and regular and made in USA); Swiss Diamond. But well worth it.
After 3 months still very happy.
Lock out control helps to clean control area; Al clad pots allow smaller diameter pot on 11 inch element; yes oven slow to heat up; but once it heats up it retains the heat in the range.
Used the probe-the way to roast! Followed directions and the chicken came out moist and done. No more worries about how long to cook; use the probe and the internal temperature you selected. Would like the probe cord longer but not critical.
It even survived an overflow in the oven. What a mess; had to use diluted de-greaser then activate the self-cleaning.I'm sure based on all reviews and research we will love this range, purchased from a local applicance provider.I uncrated the appliance, installed a new pigtail and, as a cheap and probably unnecessary extra bit of caution, a new 40 amp breaker to replace the existing 38 year old model. Drum-roll, please ... and flip the breaker: the screen returns an "FA17" code. After a week a very competent GE service tech was able to be scheduled and quickly diagnosed the need for a new "generator control board." It will be a week until this arrives and a couple more days until the GE tech will be able to install. Presumably we will be ready to roll then with the new SS-ware purchased for the occasion. I am disappointed by the delay (it was also a month on order before delivery). I was also surprised that no one in the blogosphere had encountered "FA17." One of the "how much would you pay for help" websites indicated that FA17 meant "time to buy a new range." Not helpful, though GE has stepped up nicely. We will update this review in a couple of weeks, but offer a translation for FA17 if anyone else encounters this message.
