Green Filter for Kenmore 46-9990 NSF Certified Refrigerator Water Filter, Cer...

Green Filter for Kenmore 46-9990 NSF Certified Refrigerator Water Filter, Cer...The picture, and product number for this item differ. I bought the item currently listed on this page "Green Filter for Kenmore 46-9990 NSF Certified Refrigerator Water Filter, Cer..." for $27.97. A great price since the product specifications give this product number: "SGF-LB60" which is the version that matches certifications 42 and 53. A great price. However the product I received matched the picture, and is Green Filters other model, LB50. I contacted the seller I bought from, Global Shop Stop and they sent the item I thought I was buying. Thank you Global Shop Stop. Is there functionally a difference, I dont know but I've always had the better of the two filter versions and wanted to stick with that. Both of the green filter products are much less than other options. If you're expecting the stronger filter, I think the only option is to check the price for the two and pick the higher. Hopefully GSS will update this page to show the correct Green Filter product number.

I have a Kenmore Elite refrigerator. The filter number is 469990. I bought this Swift Green filter, and it says it fits my refrigerator on the box, but it doesn't fit. The distributor has an "All Sales are Final" return policy, so if you purchase a filter, BE SURE it is the correct one, or you might be out $35. Plus shipping.

The one I bought won't even make a good door stop.

I chose this item initially based on price vs Sears filter replacement costs. The first filter I received leaked just as many other reviews have reported with other model number swift filters. That was disappointing because I really liked the idea of this filter, "Green filter components are produced with a new technology that carbonizes dried coconut shells"... and much cheaper than Sears with the free shipping. Contact with the company resulted in a fast replacement free of charge (I know that should be expected but its always refreshing when it actually happens) . happy to say the new filter works like a champ, no leaks and good water flow.

This was suppose to fit our Kenmore refrigerator but it doesn't. It is a bit smaller and it doesn't absorb the water so it leaks from the overflow opening. Won't order it again.

Doesn't fit as "perfectly" as the OEM filter, but works well. I haven't had any issues with leaking. Overall I'd recommend it especially given the price differential. No noticeable difference in water taste or quality. I will buy it again.

BTW The dimensions are clearly stated in the description 30.5 x 35.6 x 70 inches. Not sure how the previous reviewer missed that and, as a result, gave a poor rating.

Vinotemp VT-WINEDISP2 2 Bottle Wine Dispenser, Black

Vinotemp VT-WINEDISP2 2 Bottle Wine Dispenser, BlackFor various reasons I attempted to setup 2 of these side by side (one for whites, one for reds). The first two showed up quickly (thanks Amazon Prime!) and neither functioned. One was smashed beyond recognition (door sheered off its hinges, top crushed, side panel metal bent and curled over at the top). The shipping and product boxes were fine so it must've been packed that way. Thanks Amazon returns.

The second unit turned on and refrigerated but didn't dispense. The manual only says, "Change the gas cylinder and if that doesn't work, inspect the solenoid." I changed the gas canister and that didn't work, and I didn't feel like prying the unit apart to find a solenoid and 'inspect it somehow.' Vinotemp customer service never returned my calls. When I did finally get through to someone they seemed baffled by the problem, took my name and phone number, and after a couple days, they haven't called me back. Now using Amazon Prime again to return and replace the item.

The first replacement unit did work just fine. Chilled AND dispensed. Easy to use and setup and maintain. The compressor and fan do make a fair amount of noise so you may not want this in an area where you expect some quiet. I'll update if the 2nd replacement unit doesn't work, at which point both will go back in favor of lower tech and cheaper alternatives.

*** update

The second unit arrived and functioned just fine. Both have been happily humming along for a little over a month. They are a bit loud when the compressor is running, and the front lights keep a room pretty well lit when dark, but the wines are lasting 1-2 weeks and I love the convenience. Worthwhile...if you get broken units just keep returning them until you get working ones. Fingers crossed these will last a good long time.

I bought the Vinotemp in October 2012 thinking it would be a nice addition to my bar set up and a convenient, allbeit expensive, way to preserve a nice bottle of wine for more than a few days.

My initial observations upon unwrapping the package:

1) My unit has been opened and possibly used before. In fact, the nitrogen cartridge was already installed and probably half full, though I don't know for sure as replacing it was one of the trouble-shooting techniques I describe below.

2) Looks nice. Probably too large to fit under most cabinets, but if you've got some space, it certainly adds some sophistication to an unsophisticated wine display

3) Plug it in, turn it on, set the temp...mine works. Woo hoo!

I diligently cleaned out the hoses in the contraption, particularly since, as noted above, the unit had probably been used before. This entailed using the already-installed nitrogen cartridge to pump warm water from empty wine bottles through the dispenser system. The system hooked up to the bottle nicely and the water flowed through with no problems.

I was especially excited about the machine because it would give me the flexibility to compare two different vintages of Twomey I'd saved for this occassion without having to worry about 3/4 of each bottle going to waste. I opened up the 2007 Merlot and 2008 Merlot and poured a glass of each before attaching the 2 bottles to the machine. I enjoyed the wine in the glasses I initially poured, but when I went back for a few more ounces of each, this time dispensed from the machine, I noticed a distinctly different bouquet and flavor the wines that were full and sweet and alive out of the bottle seemed empty and fruitless and lifeless out of the machine.

I've tried troubleshooting, but have observed that, in my experiments, the only variable that causes good wines to become lifeless and fruitless is the fact that it's dipensed from the machine. Some of the things I've tried with different bottles to mitigate this effect include:

1) Letting the wine breathe longer before attaching it to the machine.

2) Changing out the nitrogen cartridge

3) Changing the temperature setting

4) Cleaning the system diligently -again

5) Running the wine out of the machine through a Vinturi into my glass

So, conclusion (A) is that my machine is easy to use and looks nice, but is severly detrimental to the quality of the wine.

The next disappointing conclusion I've drawn, conclusion (B), is that this machine does not preserve wine any longer than the cheap wine preserver vacuum pump kits. This unit is advertised to preserve wine up to 45 days, although maybe all of the advertisements have gotten it wrong and left the '-' that should be between the '4' and the '5' out. I've found that, if used properly, many of the

8201799 REFRIGERATOR START RELAY REPAIR PART FOR WHIRLPOOL, AMANA, MAYTAG, KENMORE AND MORE

8201799 REFRIGERATOR START RELAY REPAIR PART FOR WHIRLPOOL, AMANA, MAYTAG, KENMORE AND MORE
  • REPAIR PART NUMBER 8201799
  • REPAIR PART FOR WHIRLPOOL, AMANA, MAYTAG, KENMORE AND MORE
  • PART MEETS ALL OEM QUALITY STANDARDS MANUFACTURED BY A THIRD PARTY

I purchased this item under duress; my Whirlpool 25 cubic foot side-by-side refrigerator/freezer wouldn't cool/freeze. Probably my own fault as determined by a little research into the matter I just didn't clean the coils often/well enough. Okay, based on the same research I found that Whirlpool refrigerators are given to the failure of these particular parts. Considering the dubious option of calling a repair service and possibly spending hundreds of dollars, I thought I would just order this item and install it myself. If it worked, I would be happy as a clam, if not, well, at that point I would consider my alternatives.

The bottom line is, I am happy as a clam! I ordered this item on Monday and received it on Wednesday of the same week granted, I paid to have to order expedited, but still, it might have taken longer. I reviewed the instructions carefully and managed the installation of the parts in maybe 20 minutes. Now, my refrigerator/freezer is cooling down just as it should, and I feel very secure about the installation and the parts. The parts were a perfect fit, and appeared to be Whirlpool-specific (matching the compressor).

Amazon never fails me, even in and perhaps even especially in times of duress! I spent a little time educating myself around this project, matched my needs to the Amazon offerings and it worked like a charm!

I ordered this for my Kitchen Aid Food processor and for the model it described as fitting, the KFP750. The part is quite a bit shorter than the old one, and a more narrow diameter. I had to pay almost $6.00 postage to get it and now more to return it. Not pleased at all. Who is responsible for the inaccurate description?

SquareTrade 4-Year Appliance Protection Plan ($350-400)

SquareTrade 4-Year Appliance Protection PlanWhen I bought the service, I bought it for a $650 laptop. However I bought a display laptop for only $450. So in essence I bought a $650 in value laptop for only $450. So when something broke on my laptop they basically told me that they can't fix it, because the service we bought was only up to the coverage of the $450 that we paid for the laptop. Basically they're policies are s***. Not to mention the customer representative started to argue with me and literally shouted at me for 10 minutes before I realized I didn't have to take s*** from them and just ended the call.

I am happy with this purchase, but haven't had to use it yet thankfully, I'll update my review if my espresso machine ever craps out on me.

Frigidaire FFU12F2HW 12.1 Cu. Ft. Upright Freezer - WhiteFrigidaire FFU12F2H 1

Frigidaire FFU12F2HW 12.1 Cu. Ft. Upright Freezer - White
  • 12.1 cu. ft. upright freezer
  • Adjustable temperature control
  • 3 fixed wire freezer shelves
  • Frost-Free operation removes the need for defrosting
  • Bright interior lighting makes it easy to find stored items

I was actually looking for a smaller freezer to take the overload from my fridge freezer, but for the price difference, this somewhat larger freezer (12.1 Cubic Feet), which is frost-free and has an interior light was a much better deal. I remember my mother defrosting her freezer years ago and really didn't want to have to do that. It's a huge hassle. But neither did I need a big fancy freezer and my space is limited. This freezer really fits my needs. It is not too big (outside measurements: 5' H, 28" W, 26" deep)and not too heavy so it can sit on the little platform in the garage outside my mudroom door. We got it up the stairs on a hand truck with no problem. It's handy for me there and doesn't seem to mind the heat in the garage. It's well insulated.

I am using an appliance quality extension cord to the nearest outlet, which is working fine. We adjusted the front leveler legs up slightly per directions so the door swings shut by itself, which is nice if my hands are full. The door provides a secure seal. It has a pocket grasp handhold for opening rather than a latch. The door can not be reversed to open on the other side.

There are no baskets supplied with the freezer and I wanted those so have ordered some small freezer baskets Chrome Basket (Chrome) (8"H x 11.75"W x 12.75"D) for the shelves to contain my produce sealed in plastic using my FoodSaver. These baskets are a shade too wide to fit two abreast on the shelves, but I got one for each shelf and am using the other half of the shelf for things I can stack and larger items. The shelves, by the way, are non-adjustable, but well spaced.

I knew I wanted an upright freezer, but the extra space offers the unexpected bonus of allowing me to freeze homemade juice pops for the grandchildren (which need to be upright and level until frozen) and gives me room for a cookie sheet holding strawberries to be frozen separately before bagging and other unusual options my fridge freezer never really did (it is always too full).

I haven't seen an electric bill yet to assess the impact and I know it will be more than a manual defrost freezer, but I'm so delighted with this unit, I'm willing to pay a little extra. The energy guide that came with the freezer estimates $62/yr. That seems low, but we'll see. All in all this was a great purchase and highly recommended.

Update 12/14/09

I've now received three electric bills and am even further pleased that there is very little impact from running this freezer. I'd now guess I'll being paying about $50/yr to run the freezer. Another neat thing is that when a bad storm tripped the reset outlet where the freezer is plugged in and I didn't know it for two days, the temp never rose above 21 degrees in the freezer and everything remained well preserved even with no power. When I went to put something in the freezer and saw the light was off, I knew right away what had happened. Another reason to have the interior light, because when the freezer is between cooling cycles, it's completely silent so the light is what tells you it's 'on'. I have a gauge clipped to the outside of the freezer with a probe that attaches inside and lets me see what the temperature is. It maintains a much more consistent temperature than my fridge freezer does.

Update 6/1/13 Just wanted to let folks know my great little freezer is still working perfectly. Even though I sometimes wish I had even more freezer space, the size keeps me rotating things in and out and stuff doesn't get lost in the depths. I also appreciate even more the fact that it's not very tall so I can easily store things on the top of it and retrieve them even though I'm not very tall myself. Since it's in the garage I'm not bothered by that fact that when the compressor is on it's louder than my regular refrigerator. I'm still really pleased with my purchase.

Buy Frigidaire FFU12F2H 1 Now

This freezer does the trick; it freezes. I had to set it almost to the highest setting in order to get the temperature slightly below zero. The factory setting wasn't cold enough. Of course, I had to buy a thermometer in order to find out how cold it was getting inside. It's a little loud, so I am glad it's in our garage. I love the size though. We have a regular size two car garage, and there is plenty of room for it and both our cars. Realize when you order online, you will have to remove the freezer from the wood bolted on the bottom, and lift it off the pallet. You won't get the service you would from buying it from an appliance store.

We bought this based on good reviews. It was fine for 1 1/2 years when it stopped freezing. Not worth fixing for the price paid. We plan to avoid the Frigidaire brand completely now since a new refrigerator we bought recently for over $800 is having issues after only one month! Guess their products have really gone downhill.

I needed a moderate sized freezer with shelves so things didn't get burried in the bottom of the freezer well. This freezer has done a great job after three months and keeps everything rock hard. The shelving works great too and everything is easy to find. Why only four stars?? Although I highly recommend it, you can hear it when the compressor kicks on (which is rare) but it is quiet enough that you can't hear it from the next room. I'm just nit picking, it is a great freezer.

By the way, be st buy dot com

I have it in my garage, it's frost free and works great and was delivered to our door. It's a good family size freezer. I am glad we got it.

Keggermeister KM2800BK Kegerator Full-Size Single-Tap Beer Refrigerator and Dispenser, Black

Keggermeister KM2800BK Kegerator Full-Size Single-Tap Beer Refrigerator and Dispenser, Black
  • Full-size single-tap beer dispenser keeps beer fresh for up to 3 months
  • Accommodates a full-size keg, pony keg, or 2 5-gallon kegs
  • Adjustable temperature control; 3-sided chrome guard rail around top work surface
  • Smooth-rolling casters; UL-approved for commercial use; CO2 bottle included
  • Measures 25 by 21 by 49 inches

The Keggermeister Kegerator comes packaged in double "double walled" boxes with a lot of Styrofoam packaging materials and materials. All of the minor components are neatly organized in a separate box inside of the Kegerator fridge. After removing all the pieces and laying them out, I began to read the instruction manual. The manual content is very clear and concise with well illustrated pictures on the assembly of the unit and pieces. The box was undamaged in shipping

Assembly is fairly simple, anyone with basic knowledge of hand tools should have no problem. It takes about 20-30 minutes to get it put together and running, the one thing I would advise any owner is to take your time and learn the pieces of the dispensing system while you assemble it. This is critical in understanding how everything works in order to be able to trouble shoot any issues should they arise.

The unit comes with a 2.5lb C02 tank that I was able to get filled up for less than ten bucks. I recommend a local paint ball shop since they are better equipped to fill this size of tanks up. Welding supply shops also work.

Once everything is assembled and it was plugged in it turned right on and gave a silent hum as if to let me know it was on. Even with the compressor cycling on and off it still maintains a very minimal noise level.

After allowing the refrigerator to operate with no keg in it for 24 hours I decided to give it a test drive. The first keg used was a Full Keg of Budlight. After letting the Keg sit and cool in the Kegerator for another 24 hours it was time for the first pour which resulted in nothing but foam. After doing a bit of trouble shooting I realized I had opened the valve on the C02 tank all the way for max flow. This resulted in over pressurizing the keg. To fix this I closed the valve and adjusted the regulator to having it near closed. I then pulled the pressure release pin on the coupler releasing the built up C02 in the keg. The next glass I poured came out perfectly pure golden bliss with a decent layer of foam.

About 40 minutes layer I tried to fill up a pitcher of beer and was presented with a near perfect pour. This was more than enough of evidence that there was a consistent pressure and was at an optimal level for consistent pouring.

The exterior has a nice black matte finished that goes well with any décor. The chrome guardrail and stainless steel spout add a nice touch to the overall exterior of the unit. Cleanup is easy and was simple with just a bit of standard surface cleaner. I was also able to change out the tap handle with a standard Brewing Company handle.

Keg's that have been run through this unit: Pyramid Hefeweizen, Budlight, Budweiser, Dos Equis

I ordered this this product three weeks ago and would give this ZERO stars if possible. The first one that shipped (7/19/10) to me had a defective spout that did not lock into place. I called amazon on Tuesday 7/20/10 and they were extremely helpful. Amazon had a new one shipped to me two days later on a Thursday 7/22/10. I Assembled the keggermeister on Friday 7/23/10, plugged it in on Saturday 7/24/10 to see if it worked...and it did!!! On Wednesday 7/28/10, I bought a keg of Dales Pale ale and had the CO2 tank filled and set the kegger to the "med" setting and put a few bottles of beer inside. By Friday 7/30/10 the CO2 tanked was completely empty because there was a leak in the hose, the bottles of beer were completely frozen, and the Dales pale ale tasted stronger then normal. I had the tank refilled on Saturday 7/31/10, replaced the hose, and turned the kegger all the way down to min. On Sunday 8/1/10, I went to go and get a beer and nothing came out...I thought that was kind of strange so I unhooked the keg to see if it was tapped and it seemed there was no beer left but still on the heavy side...so i left it outside and turned the kegger off. On Monday night 8/2/10 when I got home from work, I wanted to go and return the keg at the liqueur store, but when I picked it up, there was still beer...and ICE in it. So on the lowest setting on the kegger froze my beer! Today is Tuesday 8/3/10 and I am going to contact Amazon and return the keg. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!

Doesn't keep pressure correctly. Had to get a new regulator with 2 guages on it. Keg and co2 tank barely fit inside. Waste of money.

Want Keggermeister KM2800BK Kegerator Full-Size Single-Tap Beer Refrigerator and Dispenser, Black Discount?

I bought the stainless version despite the negative reviews and I'm happy I did. I unpackaged the kegerator, which was a challenge because there was about 4 layers of cardboard/padding protecting it, and let it sit unplugged for about 12 hours since it was laid on its back. Read the directions, which dont give the best pictures but there are also some great vids on youtube, and had everything assembled within an hour. Came with a dual pressure regulator even though the directions show one, which is a huge plus. Comes with doubles of ALL O-rings and small parts

But you get what you pay for -

Tap on tower doesnt stick straight out at you (might be a fluke on mine. Its about a 4:00 spot)

Tower wont spin and lock if rubber gasket is used. Not a problem but it the principle of the matter

Max Cool temp is about 42*F

I'm happy with it and for less than $500 shipped to your door its a hard bargain to turn away

Save 35% Off

I would give this zero stars if possible, this kegerator doesn't get below 40 degrees even on the max setting. My first keg i bought was a five gallon keg, half of it was easily wasted because of foam, then a few days later out of the blue i start getting perfect pours. I didn't adjust ANYTHING i had a glass of water at the bottom of the kegerator with a thermometer in it and it was still at 40 degrees, so i know that the temp inside didnt change. the psi was the same as well (according to the regulator that comes with the unit)So when i finished my first keg i bought my second one, waited 24 hours before using it and still got 100% foam, i have adjusted the co2 pressure numerous times, i cleaned the lines before i put my second keg in, yet the best pour i ever got was about 2/3s foam. The faucet on the tower is now loose as well and falling out of the tower. The keg coupler also leaks CO2 out of the pressure relief valve, causing my CO2 tank to last about a 1/3 as long as it should. There is nothing good i can say about this kegerator. Also when it first arrived the fridge door fell off, and the vinyl part on top of the kegerator hung down so low that it would prevent the door from closing, I had to stick pieces of cardboard under it so that the door could shut! This is just a kegerator with inferior parts. Waste of my money, I am now going to have to pay to replace the tower, faucet, lines, regulator, and buy an external temperature control that will override the kegerators thermostat so that the unit can get cold enough. I couldn't regret this purchase more.

We purchased a Samsung French door refrigerator from Lowe's. The delivery men drooped the bin on the street as the removed the doors of the refrigerator to get it in our home. The bin broke and Lowe's was to get a replacement but never did. We found it on Amazon and purchased it. It was an exact fit and we now have the bin replaced. It's been three years now and we have not heard from Lowe's.

GE WR51X442 Refrigerator Defrost Heater Kit with Thermostat

GE WR51X442 Refrigerator Defrost Heater Kit with ThermostatI saved about $25.00 on this item because I purchased via Amazon versus an appliance store.

Product worked great and the solid block of ice in my freezer is no more!!!

I bought this item to replace a broken OEM defroster/thermostat for our refrigerator. Installation was a breeze but here we are...18 months since I bought the replacement unit and I am forced to buy another as the replacement unit burned up. It's a powerful light bulb tied to a thermostat so the bulb is bound to fail. I guess a five dollar replacement part is better than a $1200 fridge.

There are evidently two sizes of these just one number apart. The one I ordered turned out to be the 6" wide heaters and I needed the 9" wide heaters. So I am returning this one and ordering the right one. If the description had specified the width of the heaters I could have avoided the mistake. It was not mentioned that there are two sizes if these and they look alike in the picture. The description should warn people to measure their heaters before ordering. Amana 18-1/2-Cubic Foot Bottom-Freezer Refrigerator, ABB1921WEW, White

Amana 18-1/2-Cubic Foot Bottom-Freezer Refrigerator, ABB1921WEW, White
  • 18.5 Cu. Ft. Total Capacity
  • Temp Assure Freshness Controls
  • Two Full-Width Adjustable Glass Shelves
  • Two Humidity Controlled Garden Fresh Crisper Drawers
  • Gallon Door Storage

Shortly before this was available on Vine, we had spent several days actually shopping for a refrigerator, since we recently bought a home, and will need one.

In speaking to a number of representatives, and spending more time than I ever thought possible looking at Refrigerators, I learned a lot about them. This particular model is extremely energy efficient, in part because of the freezer being at the bottom. It makes a lot of sense when you think about it, we learned that heat rises and cold falls our science classes.

Even more, it has a huge, very practical freezer. We have a small (4 ft by 4 ft) freezer we use to store meat and other items, and ALL of it fit inside of this. The best part is that it has a basket you can pull out, in addition to the shelves, so your meat fits nicely in the basket. And I want you to know that it passed my first test, yes, it is big enough to hold a turkey, or two, or even three. I will still need our other freezer when we pick up our meat (we buy a quarter of a beef), but this freezer is huge!

Since this is a smaller unit (18.5 cubic feet) size and space were key concerns for me. But the efficient way that this is designed allowed it to hold everything that my current refrigerator does, with space left over. The door has a shelf large enough to hold gallons of milk (and keep them handy), leaving the other shelves available for other items. The deeper shelf for the milk extends across the entire door, and can easily hold three gallons of milk, with room to spare.

All of the shelves, including the ones in the door are fully adjustable, so that you can design the refrigerator to meet your needs. The only difference I noticed from one of the photos included by included by Amana, is that my shelves are all one piece, and the picture shows the top shelf as two piece adjustable. The door is adjustable too, and we had JB Hunt switch sides, since we needed it to go in the other direction.

The glass shelves are extremely easy to remove and clean, and have been my preference for a long time. They keep the foods on each shelf "cleaner," plus they give the refrigerator a great look.

This particular model does NOT have an ice maker included, BUT it is set up inside and you can easily add one later if you choose.

The temperature controls are digital and easily accessible from the front of the refrigerator. They are clearly marked, showing that the recommended temperature is 4, and that turning it to high (7), turns it to the coldest setting, so that there is no confusion. There are separate controls for the refrigerator and freezer sections. Both drawers have humidity controls, so you can treat your produce correctly. In case you don't know what setting the drawer should use, it has a little picture that shows fruit (low) and vegetables (high). The nice touch, marking things clearly, doesn't cost much, but it shows a concern for the end user that impressed me!

This is my first refrigerator with the freezer on the bottom, but I am already in love with how easy it is to access everything.

I had never considered using Amazon for a major appliance, in fact until I was offered it through Vine, I never would have considered buying one from Amazon. However, my experience with both the product and the installation By JB Hunt made this an excellent choice. We will also need a washer and dryer for our new home, and I have been checking the models that Amazon carries.

The refrigerator is compact, and well organized, energy efficient, and very practical.

Edited ...

I just wanted to update you about this product after using it for a few days.

First of all, the temperatures seem to be very even. The milk stays cold in the door, eggs and sodas (my measurement) stay cold and do not freeze on the top shelf near the back. Best of all, my ice cream (in the freezer door) stays frozen, but not hard. Obviously, the proof of durability of any model comes with age, and I can only report on that aspect in three to five years.

From a practical standpoint, having the controls at the front is a nice feature, but it does limit the space on the top shelf. It is a balance, but since I don't adjust the temperature very often, I believe that I would prefer the space over the convenience of having the controls in the front.

Second edit 1 star removed

After less than a month, both humidity levers have broken off of the drawers with virtually no adjustment. It is still possible to adjust the humidity, but the fact that both broke off, when there is no resistance indicates a weakness in the plastic with which they were manufactured. FYI, the refrigerator itself moved safely and is now in its new location inside of our home. It is very quiet, and fits perfectly in the small space reserved for it in our kitchen. We only have a total of 35 inches, and the refrigerator requires space on each side. Make sure you check measurements carefully before buying.

One Year Later ...

Just thought I'd update my review. It is now a year later. We have gone from just two of us to adding my daughter and granddaughter to the household. While the refrigerator continues to work well (with the exception of the humidity levers), it at times feels a bit small with two families using it. Still, we manage to fit everything in for both families, which is a tribute to the way the space is allocated.

I have noticed I don't enjoy the bottom as much when loading frozen groceries when we go grocery shopping, and while the drawer pulls out, I occasionally have to get on my knees to get things from the back of the actual shelf. Since we have loads of stuff with both families, things are more crowded, and we take advantage of all of the space in the freezer.

My granddaughter enjoys opening the freezer to get her own treats out don't know if that is a good thing or a bad thing.

The only other downside I have noticed is that (again) with things being crowded in the freezer, it is easy to miss the fact that we have overloaded it and the door doesn't close correctly and swings back open.

All in all, very pleased with the allocation of resources inside of this small refrigerator and the limitations the space and bottom freezer require.

Buy Amana 18-1/2-Cubic Foot Bottom-Freezer Refrigerator, ABB1921WEW, White Now

The ABB1921WEW Amana refrigerator has a "textured" painted exterior on both the cabinet and doors. This makes it a good choice, appearance wise, in a stand alone application. It is assembled in Iowa, USA. The compressor is made in Brazil by Embraco, the condenser blower motor is made in Thailand by Panasonic, and the evaporator blower motor is made in China by Ohsung.

The refrigerator is relatively quite and relatively free of annoying sounds. The most notable of unexpected sounds is the dripping of water from the evaporator onto the defrost heating element during defrost. This is turns out to be normal because the heating element loops under the evaporator and gets dripped on. Also, there are pops and snaps due to expansion and contraction. I found sleeping 6 feet away from the refrigerator to be not a problem.

Things I didn't like which may not be of concern to others:

(a Clear colored oil spilled on bottom shelf that hangs vegetable bins. Disassembled shelf to wash away oil.

(b Soldered refrigerant tubing joints in compressor compartment had green surface corrosion due to not removing acid flux. Removed with metal polish. Also, acid flux splash was not controlled.

(c Rear stainless steel cover was crunched by over tightening against strip seal. Strip seal was not positioned properly. This was really stupid. Replaced seal and cover.

(d The plastic interior of the freezer compartment had and still does have scuff like scratches on the sides and bottom. Particularly noticeable along the sides of the opening. Removed dirt from scratches with brush and cleaner to make them less noticeable. The plastic interior does not scratch easily and this is a result of careless assembly practice.

(e The evaporator blower motor, which is behind the rear panel in the freezer, made more noise than it should. The motor armature was machined out of round on one end, causing the motor to vibrate too much. It was made in Tianjin, China by the Tianjin New Ohsung Electric Machinery Co, Ltd. Replaced motor with same model by same manufacturer.

I went back to the dealer to see if other Amana bottom-freezer units had the same discrepancies as mine. Surprisingly, they did. Discrepancies (c) and (d) and no doubt (b).

This unit comes with service information (hidden away). This is a real plus for me.

Except for the evaporator blower motor, the refrigerator is assembled from quality parts and after you do your own quality control it should give you good service for years to come. It works very well in controlling temperatures. I down graded it from 5 stars to 4 stars due to poor quality control.

Overall, this is a very good refrigerator, though it is fairly basic. The aspects that, in my opinion, make it basic are that:

-Shelves are all full-width

-Shelves are not spill proof

-Icemaker is an additional cost and not included in the price

-The freezer bin is on rails vs. being a ball-bearing mounted slide

-There is no "deli drawer" for lunchmeats

What is good about this fridge are the following:

-The freezer door swings open vs. sliding open (personal preference)

-Plenty of door storage with many configurable bins

-Lighted freezer!

-Reversible door handles

I noticed the previous model, Amana 18.5 cu. ft. Bottom-Freezer Refrigerator, ABB1921WEW, White, had many complaints about the noise. I've not found this fridge to be loud. In fact, standing next to it while it's running, I could barely hear it. I used a decibel meter app on my phone and found less than a 5 dB difference between running and non-running, and that was standing right next to the rear of the fridge. I know that's not the most scientific test, but more than just "It sounds quiet". Also between the two models, this one loses the split shelves, the shelves are no longer spill-proof, but gains digital temperature controls that are conveniently mounted. The temperature controls have 7 settings each, with the default set at "4". You can control humidity for each of the two bins separately. The gallon door storage only applies to the bottom shelf on the door, as that's the only one wide enough to accommodate a gallon jug.

This fridge is best suited as an extra fridge rather than a primary one because the two large full-width shelves don't lend themselves to holding lots of items of different sizes. This makes it great for storing a party platter, cases of pop, or other things that wouldn't normally go in your primary fridge.

I looked at similar fridges in this price range to see how they compare, and found that you can always find one that is bigger, a different style, includes an icemaker, or is just as energy efficient if you're not brand specific. Therefore, I'm not sure what would make this fridge stand out from the pack. If you primarily need an energy efficient fridge, with lots of fridge space at eye level, and tend to store larger items vs. needing lots of shelves of different heights, then this would be a good contender.

At the time of this review, several of the pictures on the product page are incorrect, and I've used the feedback feature to notify Amazon of the errors. Notably, one picture shows the top shelves that are split down the middle, as well as a deli drawer. This model only has two full-width shelves and doesn't have that drawer. One picture shows full width shelves and no deli-drawer, but shows the dairy drawer in the upper-left of the door. This model can only house the dairy drawer on the right hand side of the fridge as the door shelves are two different widths and therefore can't be swapped from side to side. Lastly, one picture shows spill proof shelves, which this model doesn't feature.

This Amana is efficient, handsome, and very, very, quiet. It comes in any color you want as long as it's white (ours has a subtle, textured finish that looks nice). After the first shelf spill, it was easy to clean. And, after realizing we didn't like where we put the door shelves, it was easy to rearrange. Milk and wine store equally well!

The bottom roller feature, like our old Kenmore, makes it easy to readjust the unit's position in the kitchen.

Having a bottom swing door freezer fits our kitchen perfectly.

The Freezer basket and shelving work well. We did not choose to install an ice-maker, but it looks simple to do should we change our minds (I recommend not bothering with one unless your need for ice is constant).

Some guests have politely shared that they feel this one is too small for them. If you entertain a lot or have a lot of residents, it might be. But this is a perfect fit for the four of us.

Based on a detailed comparison by a major Amana vendor--see link in Comments section below--this new model (ABB1921WEW) is very similar to the old model (ABB1921DEW). However, I think Amana has cheaped out a little on this model change, especially evident in the types and quantity of shelves.

One of the other notable differences is the door finish. The old model offered a textured finish while the new model is smooth. Or rather, *should be* smooth. Curiously, my fridge (identified on both the back and inside of the machine, as well as the warranty card, as ABB1921WEW) has a textured door. Perhaps Amana is using up parts inventory early in this transition?

My own preference is smooth but your mileage may vary. In my opinion, smooth looks better when new, but textured is more forgiving down the road when your fridge may have picked up a few nicks or scratches. Still, it must be said: If I had spent a thousand dollars on this fridge expecting the door to be smooth, I'd be hella P.O.'d.

Another change is the lack of split shelves, which is unfortunate because I find them very useful for tall pitchers. Sure, I could lower an entire shelf in this case, but that leaves me with wasted height everywhere else. The lack of spill-proof shelves is also another bummer. (Please note that the manufacturer-supplied photos on this listing above are apparently for the older model.)

The Digital Temperature Control sounds great on a features list but in reality it is bare bones and counterintuitive. Why does a *higher* number (1 to 7) equal lower temperatures? My trusty analog thermometer confirms consistent temp in both the refrigerator and freezer compartments*, so the important thing is that the cooling mechanism works. However, and in my opinion, the temperature control feature should be reversed, so that a lower setting results in a lower temp, or else improve it altogether to display the actual temperature, as many refrigerators do.

*The manufacturer's suggestion is temperature setting 4 in both the fridge and freezer compartments. Even on 5, however, the fridge compartment measures just over forty degrees. That's slightly warmer than optimal, so I will be bumping the temperature control up (again, that makes it colder) to 6. On the other hand, the freezer measures just under zero even on 4, so I think I can save a bit of energy and dial that down to 3.

This unit does not offer a water feature but that's fine for me. One less thing to go wrong! An in-freezer icemaker is an available accessory from Amana (and here on Amazon, of course), but you know what? It was easy enough (and cheap enough) to pick up a couple ice cube trays at the store. TIP: some ice cube trays don't rest comfortably on the freezer's wire rack. So just use a flat plastic tray (a cheapo cutting board works fine) and put the ice cube trays on *that*.

The freezer section is one of the main selling points on this model. Traditionally, freezers were located *above* and not below the main refrigerator compartment. In practice, people spent much of their time bent over, since the majority of trips to the refrigerator were for refrigerated (and not frozen) foods. Then side-by-side refrigerators became popular, but the usable space in the freezer was often very tiny on a per-shelf basis. So now we see this bottom-freezer model, which is much closer to having a dedicated chest freezer. The space seems large here but I think my concern will be using it intelligently and not forgetting what is buried at the bottom.

The front door of the fridge is reversible, as is the freezer door. You cannot choose to open Left with one and Right with the other--not that you should want to, anyway--since the hinge apparatus shares a post. Most people, being right-handed, will continue to prefer opening both with their right hand. I noted with some displeasure that the screw holes on the front of the door (for relocating the handle to the right side) are filled with ugly plastic screw heads which don't match the textured surface of the door. This is a small aesthetic gripe but it is obvious and ugly. The delivery guy agreed. Apparently, Amana previously used textured screw heads but those probably cost fifty cents more. Finally, the pull handle for the freezer compartment is very large and very ugly: it looks to be designed for handicap accessibility.

Like most new refrigerators (other than cheapo models), condenser coils are no longer prominently located on the back. It looks better this way--not that you look at the back of your fridge very often--but it also means you need to be vigilant in periodically cleaning underneath. Otherwise, the cooling ability of your fridge may be compromised. You can snap off the plastic cover on the bottom front and vacuum the dust that will assuredly accumulate there. There's a brush you can buy here, but in my experience, using a vacuum with a narrow attachment works well. Either way, preventive maintenance should keep you from needing (another) new fridge sooner than later.

The fridge was delivered by Amazon's new Delivery service through J.B. Hunt. My corresponding review is here. Suffice to say, it was as easy as any appliance or furniture delivery I have ever arranged through a big box store.

Conclusion.

In my opinion, and after several weeks of ownership, this is certainly a usable fridge. Even without the split and spill-proof shelves of the previous model, it has enough shelves and door pockets to hold a variety of food products; the gallon door storage is a nice bonus. It maintains a consistent temperature (on either side of the factory settings, mind you) and runs quiet. It is also energy efficient, or so the ENERGY STAR placard tells me. The not-too-tall height means it is easy to stack a cooler or fondue pot up on top and maximize storage. The fridge *does* offer more internal space than the exterior appearance would belie. But to me, this fridge is not worth a thousand dollars. I would rather spend a few hundred more and get a stainless model with french doors, like this other Amana model.

4 stars. (3 stars for the price.)

FoodSaver FreshSaver Handheld Vacuum Sealing System

FoodSaver FSFRSH0051 FreshSaver Handheld Vacuum Sealing System, WhiteI've owned a Foodsaver for years (now on my third) so I'm familiar with their conventional vacuum bags and canisters.

I got an email from FoodSaver touting the new FreshSaver zipper bags for frequently used items so you don't have to keep cutting down and re-sealing regular FoodSaver bags.

Sounded good to me, so I ordered one. The handheld unit vacuums reasonably quickly, and the small compatible storage containers work well.

However, the quart and gallon size bags zipper are worse than useless. They appear to hold a vacuum initially, so you put it in the fridge only to find the next day that the bag lost its vacuum. The bags are stiffer than regular zipper bags, so when the seal fails, the bag expands and allows more air in than a regular plastic bag. The unit was supplied with 5 quart bags and 5 gallon bags. Only four bags held a vacuum more than a few minutes! Of those four, only two bags held vacuum a second time. Even those two failed on the third use.

Absolutely maddening you THINK you sealed the bag, only to find out hours later it isn't sealed after all!

I called Jarden (Foodsaver's corporate owner) to complain. They said the only thing they could do is send me a box of 12 gallon-size zipper FreshSaver bags as a 'goodwill' gesture. Unfortunately, those bags are just as bad as the first ones. The problem is the valve tab. The bags feature heat-welded multilayer construction (good) and heat-welded zippers (good), but the valve tab is fastened using a pressure sensitive adhesive like 'scotch' tape (BAD). The tabs fail, either by leaking when the tab comes loose, or when the tab doesn't stay sealed around the pinhole in the bag under the tab. As a test, I vacuumed a bag and immediately covered the tab with a square of clear 3M box sealing tape, and then the vacuum holds! Unfortunately, when you remove the tape, the vacuum tab peels off too, so that isn't a fix, but confirms the source of the failure.

Absolutely worthless design! Customer reps at Jarden aren't able to help they just want to sell you more stuff. (Too bad for you if what they just sold you doesn't work like they promise!)

I love the idea, but the bags are too annoying to bother with. I consider this a wasted purchase.

P.S. Some here have commented/suggested that I must have used the bags with wet/greasy foods that undermine the seal. (I learned that lesson 15+ years ago with standard Foodsaver.) I've used the Freshsaver with hard, dry cheese (Parmigiano Reggiano) and made sure the tab stayed flat, but still have leaks. I'm glad there are those who have had no problems, but that makes me wonder if Foodsaver has poor quality control on the Freshsaver bags, some work, some don't? As for me, I'm back to using the regular Foodsaver bags since they work very well.

I saw this on the shelf when I was buying some new bags for my big old foodsaver vacuum system. I thought this was a great idea. And at $20, what a deal! I did scoff a bit at the price of the special ziploc bags you had to buy, but I still thought it was worth a try.

If I only ever used this for lunchmeat and cheese, I would still be SO happy with this investment. These are two items that always go bad before we use it all, and that I am never going to pull out my big old foodsaver vacuum and bags every time I open them up.

I transferred my bag of salami and bag of sliced cheese into the special fresh saver ziplocs and it has just been awesome. It only takes a couple of extra seconds to grab the freshsaver and seal those bags up tight each time you get into them. My meat and cheese looks like the package has never been opened several weeks later. I couldn't be happier.

I know I will end up using this for a lot more down the road...but I couldn't let this great product continue to sit up here with no reviews. It is just excellent. It is great for items that you access a lot that are a hassle to deal with the traditional food saver system on. Or if you can't afford to invest in the bigger system. I highly recommend it. The only downside is the bags are pricey, but again, these bags get opened an resealed a lot, they last a long time...and you could probably wash and reuse them a few times if you were so inclined.

UPDATE 1/14/10: I will add that I have seen some comments about the seals failing and not working. The only time I have had this problem is if I have sealed and resealed the same bag more than say 15 times or so. Also, you can have failure of the seal if the product inside is very greasy or moist, to the extent that grease or liquid gets sucked up through the seal when sealing...than can compromise it. If not those cases, I have never had a bag fail on me. I still highly recommend this product. And I saw your latest commercial Food Saver people. How about sending me some love?

Buy FoodSaver FreshSaver Handheld Vacuum Sealing System Now

I only use this with the mason jar attachments. It is not intended for that, and FoodSaver will tell you the two are not compatible. I didn't want to spend hundreds of dollars on a vacuum sealer just to use the jar attachment pieces, so I gambled that the cheap handheld unit would work, or I could make it work. I didn't even have to buy a hose to connect the two parts, but you can if you want. I just put the handheld unit over the hole in the mason jar attachment, push down and turn it on. It sucks the air out of the jar just fine without a hose piece.

A tip on mason jars in the fridge and freezer: put thick rubber bands on them. They absorb the shock if you accidentally clang them together. They can be touchy when cold.

Purchased the FoodSaver® FreshSaver® Handheld Vacuum Sealing System from Wal-Mart about 6 months ago along with 3 boxes of quart sized bags to go with it. The handheld unit works just fine, sucking out the air out of the bags like it is designed to do. But the failure of the system is the bags. The consistanly failed to maintain the vacuum status that they are designed to do.

After about 2-3 days, air is back in the bags. This is just not with the sample bags that came with the unit, it is also with the bags that are new in sealed up boxes fresh off the shelf. So I have lodged my complaint with FoodSaver over my loss of $45.00 not that I am expecting anything to come of this, but perspective buyers need to be aware of the failure.

Two days ago I purchased from the very same Wal-Mart, Ziploc's version of the system. It is a manual pump made out of cheep plastic for less than $3.00. Guess what folks, it works and the bag is still maintaining its vacuum on the product that I have placed inside. So a $3.00 product beats out a $19.95 product that is way more complicated.

The Freshsaver unit does make a very nice paperweight through.

Want FoodSaver FreshSaver Handheld Vacuum Sealing System Discount?

I first bought a Zip lock vacuum system and while I was pleased with it the hand pump often took 30 to 40 pumps to create the vacuum in a gallon bag even when evacuating most of air before sealing. This unit works with both the Zip lock bags and the Food saver bags and containers. And I have the hand pump from Zip lock to use if charge is down on this unit. You should note that instructions provide that you should charge for 24 hours before first use. Also I note some reviews comment about vacuum not holding and I find that I often have to double check the seal to be sure it is holding and occasionally will have to remove air after having been in freezer or refrigerator for a while. So it is not perfect but still far better than using non vacuum bags or containers.

I bought both Zip lock and this system and some Food Saver containers for my son and daughter after having used for a while. My daughter was concerned about BPA and I was pleased to note that both Zip lock and Food Saver websites say that all their products are BPA free.

A tip: The bags from Ziplock or Foodsaver are far more expensive than regular bags so what I have done is use cheaper zip lock bags that I do not seal. I put those inside the vacuum bags, especially for meat and other items that would require disposal of a bag after use. I turn the unsealed bags with flap facing up (so no dripping from meat). This way I can use the vacuum bags over and over again at a considerable savings. My experience is that this has kept food fresher much longer than in unsealed containers and will likely pay for itself in food saved. I tried with bag of salad from Sams that usually spoiled in less than a week if not used in 5 days or so. Kept it fresh for nearly two weeks.

GE Profile 22.0 Cu. Ft. White French Door Refrigerator - PFSF2MIYWW

GE Profile 22.0 Cu. Ft. White French Door Refrigerator - PFSF2MIYWWI bought his 2 years and 4 days ago. All was well until 7 weeks ago. Since then I have had to have 4 repairmen out to fix 3 different problems, to the tune of almost $1000 in repairs. Needless to say, it is a HUGE hassle to have to "be home between 1-5pm" every few days. Repair men were at my house 3 times in just the past 7 days. Today it defrosted all over my new hardwood floor, pouring about a quart of water all over everything.

I am writing GE to ask for a replacement as a $1700 appliance should last more than 2 years. I have a 20 year old fridge in my garage that runs great!

I would look to another brand.

Oh, one more thing, every repairman has told me that they have nothing but trouble with GE! Hey, GE, get a clue!
