Danby DBC120BLS Beverage Center - Stainless Steel

Danby DBC120BLS Beverage Center - Stainless Steel
  • 3.3 cu. ft. capacity beverage center (up to 120 cans)
  • Mechanical thermostat with temperature range of 43F - 57F
  • 3 black wire shelves and interior light illuminates compartment when door is opened
  • Recessed side mount door handle and integrated lock with key
  • Tempered glass door with stainless steel trim and black body

I was reluctant to order this at first due to a lot of comments around the packaging of the unit and them showing up with dents and scratches. When the unit arrived the outside parcel was a bit torn. However the seller must have taken the feedback that was given and made some changes as my unit was in perfect condition without a single scratch or dent. It was double boxed. The OEM box has the unit inside with a Styrofoam shell. Then the EOM box was lined with stiff cardboard corners and wrapped in Styrofoam around that and then placed in an additional box. Only the otter box had a slight tear. Given the weight of the unit it was expected. Don't hesitate to order this unit as I'm certain it will show up in perfect condition if we were to order an additional one.

The unit itself is made of quality materials. I placed a digital thermometer inside the unit and it holds a sold 37 degrees inside. Keep in mind this is a minifridge and not a cooler. A major difference. The only complaint I have about the unit is that we have it downstairs behind our bar. Not in the bar but behind it sitting on the carpet. When placed on the carpet the door would drag the carpet and after our first basement break in party the door was left slightly open a few times because the door was difficult to shut. I tried to adjust the feet to raise the unit up but was unable to do so because the legs are not adjustable. I happen to have an extra 18X18 tile from the bathroom. I sat the unit on top of the tile and it solved the problem. The door open and shuts perfectly. Keep in mind we do not have shag carpet either. It is a medium density stainmaster carpet with standard stainmaster padding. If you plan to place this in a carpeted area do yourself a favor and go purchase an 18X18 tile.

As others have mentioned the shelves don't hold cans the best when you go to fill it as some tip from side to side when placed vertical. I removed the second from the bottom shelf to hold 4-5Liter kegs. I can hold exactly a case of beer in the bottom section which is not as deep as the others since the compressor housing is in the way. Which leaves me with the top full shelf and the very top shelf that holds them in a horizontal fashion. The horizontal shelf holds a 12 pack 6 on each side. Without the removal of a shelf this unit will not accommodate 16oz water bottles or beer bottles placed vertically. These will need to be placed on their sides unless you remove a shelf.

Overall I would give this fridge a 5 out of 5 or 10 out of 10. It servers our purposes perfectly and it looks great, and it was at a great price point. If I had to make a couple of changes or a wish list. I wish it used an LED bulb for that newer look. Additionally, I wish the light could be turned on when the door was shut since it is a glass face to showcase the drinks inside. Other than that it's the perfect height and the top is being used to hold our EdgeStar 5Liter Kegerator. Which places the tap at the perfect height and I am 5'10".

All in all don't hesitate to purchase this unit as I searched for several weeks and really did my homework before ordering a mini fridge for our bar when we finished the basement. I assure you that you will not find a better product at this price point.

I was concerned given all the reviews about keeping the drinks cold enough but I use mine in my workout room to house all my exercise drinks and it keeps them plenty cold enough at a medium-high setting (probably due the fan circulating the air which most beverage coolers do not have). I haven't seen any dramatic increase in my electric bill either. My only complaint is the auto-defrost feature. It does auto-defrost and collect the water in a reservoir that is supposed to evaporate by the heat of the compressor. But in my house apparently it didn't get hot enough because it didn't evaporate and over flowed in the back and spilled out onto the floor behind the unit. Now I just keep an eye on it and use a large syringe to remove the water if the reservoir fills up.

Unit arrived undamaged and worked right out of the box. Door was assembled a bit crooked and overall quality is mediocre but looks good from a distance. Have had it about 5 weeks now and it is doing its jobdrinks stay sufficiently cold, good capacity, internal fan helps a lot (main reason I bought it) and is quiet enough in my family room adjacent to my home theater setup. Stopped working once for some unknown reason (maybe got a bit hot as I have it installed in a tight cabinet spaceIFU clearly says it is designed to be free-standing) but after unplugging and letting it sit for 30 mins, it started up again and has been fine ever since. I check the external cabinet temp regularly and while it does get quite warm to the touch, it seems to be okay installed as is. A good idea is to keep it out first time it cools down your drinks (it will work quite hard doing this), then when the compressor cycles off (ieit has reached its set temp), you can push it back in. Overall it seems to be a good deal for the price.

4 months after purchase and the cooler is overheating. Had it looked it and it will cost more to fix it than to just purchase a new one. Not impressed

KitchenAid KFIS29BBBL

KitchenAid KFIS29BBBLMy wife and I bought this refrigerator based on past ownership of a KitchenAid refrigerator that we thoroughly enjoyed and as a result we had high expectations of satisfaction for this refrigerator. We happened to purchase ours from Sears. So far, this purchase and our choice of vendor have been a huge mistake. I will stick to our purchase of a KitchenAid product and leave Sears out of this review as that is a self sustaining issue not relevent to the refrigerator.

The refrigerator alone has worked well except the in-door ice maker has a poor seal between the door and the top of the refrigerator which makes for constant condensation and shrunken ice cubes if not used multiple times a day in order to constantly refill the ice bin. A small gripe, but over time it becomes more relevent, especially when we compare it to our previous product and combined with the problem we experienced with the freezer drawer.

The ice and water dispensers are easy to see, but they are a bit difficult to get to work "as advertised." You have to hunt for the "sweet spot" that activates the dispenser. Not a major problem, but not nice if using a foam or other soft cup which can cause liquid to spill if you are topping off the cup with ice to keep your beverage cold. The measured water fill feature is great; all you have to do is determine how many ounces you want, set your glass down, push a buttonn and wait. Very easy and pleasey, but if you use the manual feature, it is just as hard to get to the "sweet spot" on the water dispenser as it is on the ice dispenser. We could have lived with these relatively glitches which pale in comparison (for us at any rate) with the problem we have encountered with the freezer drawer, but when combined with the freezer problem is simply unacceptable. Why should we settle for less than our complete satisfaction? We should not, and that is why this is written, to help others avoid the same problems we encountered.

The freezer drawer glides easily and quietly when sitting on display and nothig is in the freezer baskets. Once the unit is plugged in and food is placed in the drawer, the drawer becomes difficult to pull/push and the track for the glides make a loud grinding noise. Based on the cost of this refrigerator, we were quite unhappy. We called Sears to seek some resolution and that became a nightmare all of it's own, and I ultimately reached someone in Sears Solutions who offered to exchange our original unit for of the same model. After a brief moment of reflection, we agreed to to an exchange for another refrigerator of the same make and model, thinking that things would be different. Wrong.

When the second unit arrived, and was loaded with food, the same problem/compalint surfaced immediately upon loading the freezer, and it was even louder and more difficult to open and close than the original. After the second refrigerator arrived and the problem immediately recurred upon loading the freezer drawer, I called KitchenAid to see if they were aware of the problem I experienced with the freezer drawer. The person I spoke with said there was no problem that the company was aware of, and netted an offer to send someone out to try and resolve the problem in a timely manner. A repairman from Field's Appliance Repair responded to the house and said that ours was the worst sounding unit he had been called out to work on. After the drawer was removed and the runners and bearings were examined, it was found that there are ball bearings along the length of the runner with a small amount of a sticky looking lubricant, with nylyon wheels inside the track. The ultimate recommendation we got was to use a spray lube on the track. Not what we wanted to hear, but some other lube was put in the track which seemed to alleviate the problem for all of 24-48 hours. The repairman opined that the lube may have been insufficient to allow the unit to operate quietly. This has been a very disappointing purchase, and we will be returning the unit to Sears and will go with another brand from another vendor.

My wife and I are grossly disappointed in this product and cannot in good conscience recommend this product for purchase unless or until there is a redesign of the glider bearings and track asssembly. I want it understood that my wife and I realize that there is no such thing as an absolutely noiseless refrigerator drawer, but we do not feel that we should have to resign ourselves to accepting a loud and hard to pull freezer drawer, no matter what the price point on a new unit. As the price point on a refrigerator increases, the expectations for satisfaction rise as does the increased cost. Sorry to say that at this point, this product as a whole, is a dud. If you only want to use the refrigerator and don't mind fincky dispensers for ice and water this is an acceptable product, otherwise it is not an acceptable product. Hopefully KitchenAid will go back to the drawing board and resolve the issues.

Whirlpool Stainless Steel Side-by-side Refrigerator

Whirlpool 25 Cu. Ft. Stainless Steel Side-By-Side Refrigerator - ED5FVGXWSWe've had this fridge about 1 month and it is very quiet and has presented no problems. It has cold water and ice in either crushed or cubed form. My son loves the crushed ice feature since it cools drinks down fast. My main beef about this refrigerator is that there is a lot of wasted space. It uses traditional light bulbs including bulbs behind the food (why???). The bulbs and their guards waste nearly 1 cu ft of space. The water is kept in a resivoir in the back of the refrigerator that prevents the shelves from going all the way to the backs: another cubic foot of space lost. The shelves have too wide reinforcement on the shelves that cause items to tip over and have a fancy curved front: I'd rather just have the shelves made to maximize storage! Anyway, they need to more efficiently make use of the interior space of the frige including using small, energy efficient leds.

I've had this for more than a year now and it's been running like a champ. I was skeptical when I wanted to buy it coz it was so damn cheap. It gets the job done and all the bells and whistles work fine. The black plastic on the ice and water dispenser is a bit cheap looking but it is OK otherwise. I've been very happy with this fridge and I am just wondering why other brands go for double this price on a stainless steel side by side.

Extremely disappointed at the cheap materials used for shelving.

After getting my first real job after college, I bought my parents this fridge for Christmas after their freezer quit on them. Was looking forward to giving them a good 10 years or so with this new fridge (parents' previous fridge lasted 10+ years), but was sorely disappointed when after just 2 years, the plastic edges around the shelves began to crack. First, the shelves inside the door, then the rest of the shelves. Never have we had this problem with our previous refrigerators. Extremely disappointing. Warranty is only good for one year, so I guess it's too bad for us.

Don't be fooled by the nice-looking exterior and expensive price tag. This will be the last time I buy a Whirlpool anything.

The product works great. I dont have the water plugged in. On the first day it made

lot of noise. Its fine now and havent done that.

Plenty of room.

Shipment is bad so be careful. It took a month to deliver the fridge. I am in west coast

and the fridge came all the way from east coast. The shippers didnt do a good job

coordinating the shipment. THey would bring the fridge to my door without calling me

first.

One con is its too high so make sure you check the measurements before you buy

which i forgot to do :) and ended up having to move it.

I bought a similar model to this, the ED5PVEXW model, the side by side with the ice and water dispenser. ONE WEEK after the year warranty they give you it stopped cooling. We had a repairman come out and he said that Whirlpool and Maytag refrigerators were notorious for burning out the compressors due to a defective component and that our compressor was extremely hot. He said many have even caught fire and ruined houses! Maytag, Whirlpool's sister company, has recalled many of their models for these fire hazards, but Whirlpool has ignored the issue for the most part, only recalling a few models. I called Lowe's, where I bought my refrigerator (and where a suprisingly large amount of the failed refrigerators were purchased, check consumeraffairs.com) and they said they couldn't help me, to call Whirlpool. Well, Whirlpool said they couldn't do anything because the warranty had expired. Before you buy a Whirlpool refrigerator be sure to check the internet review sites and read the horror stories! I will never buy another Whirlpool/Maytag/Kenmore appliance, and I will never again shop at Lowe's.

  • NSF and WQA Certified Filters

When a product is described as a "Whirlpool 4396510P Certified Green Refrigerator Water Filter 3 Pack by Whirlpool" one would assume it would be an actual Whirlpool brand filter.

When a product is listed under technical details as "Brand Name Whirlpool" one would assume it would be an actual Whirlpool filter.

It is NOT a Whirlpool brand filter as described.

Silly me for not calling on my experience in buying ink & toner cartridges when I quickly searched and bought this without really studying the picture but I have to say the description appears to be intended to deceive.

I was so excited to get my wine fridge in only 2 days! So unexpected. As soon as I got it, I set it up (not too heavy for me to lift, but I did need some help) and all was perfect! Not a sound to be heard and it looked great! Only one thing puzzled me, when I woke up the next morning, the backlight was on...strange. The buttons are VERY sensitive, so be careful with that. Otherwise, that is something that I can live with. For the price and looks, GREAT DEAL!

We really like our Wine Enthusiast refrigerator since it is quiet and looks nice. It was easy to assemble the shelves and became cool fast. The front of the fridge is really sleek since the display is in line with the fridge front since the display is touch-based. I thought it would be a pain to clean since the fridge front is almost mirror-like, and I thought finger prints would show up each time we opened the fridge but it stays really clean and looks nice in our kitchen.

For my husbands restaurant. This replaces the one that was already in the restaurant. It works very well for wine.

This is a good wine cooler -it would have rated another star if the minimum temperature were less than 54. It makes almost no noise, and looks good on a bar.

Top Opened Dual Voltage Fridge & Freezer in Gray

Top Opened Dual Voltage Fridge & Freezer in Gray
  • Compact and portable freezing unit
  • Food & Snacks not included
  • Capable of freezing almost anything
  • Easily works off solar power and only draws a maximum of 2.5 Amps
  • Operates off 12/24V DC or 110V AC

We have been using this freezer for about 1-1/2 years. It works great. We carry it in a storage compartment on our travel trailer, wired to both 110AC and 12 volt DC. It keeps everything solidly frozen, even in 90+ F weather. The thermometer almost always says exactly 0 degrees. When not traveling we have used it for extra refrigerator space, and in the car to keep things cold while grocery shopping. It's expensive, but very well made. I recommend it to others.

Once I decided to switch from thermoelectric inefficient coolers to a professional refrigeration system I found many sizes and designs. The heart of all the systems is the Danfoss compressor which is simply a 12 (and often 24V optional) compressor using environmentally friendly R134 coolant just like a home fridge would. These units all have strong cooling and even freezing capabilities like a home freezer would.

What I found is the Engel 35 is smaller and higher priced than the Portable refrigerator & freezer 12/24 V or 110 V which is slightly larger and around $200 cheaper. Both units can easily swallow 4 12 packs of drinks with room left over and both use the same refrigeration system making them friendly on your car / truck / boat's electrical system. A complete comparison of the difference in a thermoelectric cooler and a compressor based cooler is on the EdgeStar page. It explains why these cost more and can actually cool down 40+ cans from room temp rather than requiring you to pre-freeze any items going into the cooler such as the thermoelectric units do.

While both units are comparable, you get more for your money in the Edgestar 43 system. It comes down to what fits in your vehicle at this point.

I almost never review a product, but I couldn't resist when I realized that Amazon carried these refrigerators. Like others, I purchased this after getting fed up with thermoelectric coolers that either didn't keep food cold or froze it.

PROS: Excellent quality!!! Purchased mine in 2005 and have had no maintenance issues.

Not Picky about ventilation mine sits in the closet of my Peterbilt.

Metal exterior It's sturdy enough for me to use it as a step stool.

Good Capacity I'm gone 4 day at a time and it holds all the food and water i need

Great power management Can leave it on while my truck sets for 3 or 4 day without killing the batteries

CONS: Weight appx. 50 lbs. Only a problem if you need to move it often, but the durability is worth it.

Price Fairly pricey, but it has paid for itself many times over!

Aqua-Pure Plus Refrigerator Water Filter (DA29-00003G)

Aqua-Pure Plus Refrigerator Water FilterWith the cost of these filters being off the charts, I decided to try an experiment. I timed how long a brand new filter took to fill a 16 oz container. I then used it for 6 months and timed it again. Exactly the same number of seconds. Instead of changing the filter as recommended, I used it for another 6 months, and another 6 months, each time timing how long it took to fill the 16 oz container. After a full 2 years of use, it performed exactly the same, telling me it had not accumulated any particles which would decrease the flow of water. This tells me the filter is of little or no use and perhaps just a source of additional revenue for the retailers. I'll buy a new one every 5 years or so. I hope it slows down a smidge by then!

Vinotemp VT-50SBW 50-Bottle Wine Cooler with Digital Display

Vinotemp VT-50SBW 50-Bottle Wine Cooler with Digital Display
  • Wine cooler stores up to 50 standard-size bottles of wine
  • Dual-paned glass door; slide-out metal-and-wood shelves
  • Digital display with adjustable temperature settings; interior light
  • Front-venting exhaust; built-in or freestanding option
  • Measures 23 by 24 by 34-1/2 inches

Was pleased to find this product at Costco for just over $500; seemed a good value. Has been much noisier than expected. And now after having it for only 15 months, without moving it, it has simply stopped cooling though the compressor runs non-stop. The only Vinotemp authorized technician in the entire Houston area basically said it would cost $200-300 to repair, with no guarantee that something else would not go wrong. He stated that all of these coolers require some maintenance or repair every 2-3 years.

Buy Vinotemp VT-50SBW 50-Bottle Wine Cooler with Digital Display Now

I had shopped around for a decent wine cooler. Target, Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Lowes, Sam's, online, you name it. I did not want to spend $1000.00 on a 50 bottle cooler, but all of the products at the aforementioned places were cheaply made. Not all had wire racks and the ones that did slid out like an oven shelf. All of the wood grain trim items had plastic shelves. This item has wire racks that slide out on fully extendable ball-bearing glides with real wood facing. I think it will hold a full 50 bottles too. It is slightly noisy especially compared to my GE Profile kitchen appliances. Probably as loud as a bathroom vent. Also, keep in mind it is single zone. I think it is overpriced at $1000.00 because I was able to find this product at my Costco Warehouse for less than $500.00. $500.00 it is a steal, $700.00 good buy, $1000.00 plus shipping I would keep looking.

I have a VT-60 which I spent almost $700 for and which died within 2 years. There were no authorized repair places within 120 miles for years 3 and 4. Finally, one showed up within 70 miles. I took my wine cooler there and they didn't even know what a Vinotemp wine refrigerator was. Anyway, they told me I had to order a relay switch in order for them to determine what was wrong with the refrigerator. I have been waiting about 3 months for the relay switch and Vinotemp moved the estimated ship date of the part another 2 weeks again. The customer service representative that I spoke to about this new delay was marginally rude. I purchased a small "normal" refrigerator for my game room for less than $200 and it has run well for almost 4 years. There is something incredibly wrong with the Vinotemp business model which apparently does not include a quality system nor inventory control.

I too bought this model at Costco for 500. Not only was it really loud (I'm glad it was not located in my kitchen) but the compressor DIED after less than 3 years. The technician that came said labor by itself would be $300 and the cost of the compressor would make it more expensive than buy a new one!!! I am very dissatisfied with Vinotemp and other reviews show I am not the only one. I DO NOT recommend to buy any model from them, unless you want to buy a new wine cellar every 3 years...

I have this same model and have never had a problem with it. I was shocked to hear all the horror stories about the other units. I do agree that as a company VinoTemp should do something about the problem. These are expensive units and no one has money to waste! Mine has been running going on 4 years, so I'll keep my fingers crossed!
