An extra freezer is nice to have. This doesn't cost too much, doesn't burn much electricity, and it's front loading.

Although they mention this in the manual, they could make the product a bit more idiot proof by placing a sticker on it, or adding a an extra grill on the back, or something. Generally, you can place a refrigerator up against the wall without a problem, so it's natural to assume you can with a freezer as well.

The Avanti Compact Freezer is exactly that compact. It fit nicely into a 22 inch wide space. Inside, there are three shelves the top two have a depth of 13 inches, the bottom shelf is a disappointing 8 1/2 inch depth because of the motor.

The door opens on the left, but can be changed by calling a customer service number for directions. Noise is moderate. The unit is lightweight and easy to move about. Temperature can be set 1 4. I have had the freezer for one week set on 3 with no problems. Negatives? Upon initial plug in, a strong chemical odor came from the back of the unit. Seven/eight days later, I can occasionally still smell that odor. Overall, this is a nice little freezer.

Yes fellow shoppers I love this freezer though compact it holds plenty of food, runs quietly barely any sound, and best of all for me

it does not take up a lot of space, and doesn't freezer burn food like my old freezer did. It looks as you see it in the picture, and

is very easy to move light weight but strong. On the bottom you only get half the space of the shelve's above because of the motor,

but I already knew that after reading another review so no peoblem there. Amazon took great care in packing it, it was well padded, and

Due to a defect in the first product rec'd I had to try and get an exchange. After failing with emails, I was delighted to finally talk to a real person at ABT by the name of Colleen. She was very, very helpful and helped me the best she could. When I was about to go try and find packing materials to try and repack the freezer, a gentleman by the name of "Mike" called and came to my rescue. He had another freezer shipped and I used that packing to repack the defective unit. Thank you to Abt for their wonderful help and assistance. This is one "elderly" person who appreciated being treated as a human being and not a number! Cudos to ABT!!!

This unit was poorly packaged, and it was delivered with the cardboard bottom completely broken away. However, there was no obvious damage, and the freezer works excellent. Now how about making a frost-free model why is that so difficult in a half-size unit?

I recently purchased this unit as a part of a full kitchen remodel. Unfortunately, upon attempting to transfer part of my wine collection I found the unit completely unsuitable. Because the unit attempts to fit 57 bottles into a relatively small space (note GE also sells a 29 bottle unit with a capacity of 4.3 cubic ft, compared to this unit's 5.5 cubic ft), the unit will not fit many 750 ml (standard capacity) wine bottles. Most Bordeaux style bottles (which have a pronounced shoulder below the neck and are basically cylindrical below the shoulder) will fit. However, many Burgundy style bottles (which taper gradually outward below the neck and are usually wider at the bottom) will not. The latter type of bottles bump up against the shelf above when the shelf they rest on is opened or closed. This kind of vibration is very bad for collectible wines, and a significant percentage of producers around the world (including the U.S.) use Burgundy style bottles.

In fairness, I have contacted GE about this problem and will edit this review if I receive a satisfactory response. Until then, I would highly recommend even wine novices steer clear of this product. There are multiple options in the $300-600 price range that have slightly less capacity but fit the vast, vast majority of 750 ml bottles.

I did some extensive research before I bought this built-in wine fridge. Being quiet is very important to me, and indeed, this is one of the quietest wine fridges I checked out. As a corollary, there's also not too much vibration. I still wouldn't keep the best wines in there for many years any compressor-based wine fridge will vibrate too much for that but the slightly spongy coating on the racks help protect the bottles to a great extent.

The one major negative is the space between shelves. Yes, the fridge can theoretically hold 57 bottles, but in practice those bottles are all either bordeaux-shaped or placed in there with precise care. If you like chardonnay, pinot noir, syrah, champagne, or anything in burgundy/rhone-shaped bottles, they tend to slide in such a way that they hit the shelf above them. This got so bad I ended up removing a few shelves, and now have to take care which size bottle goes where. Very annoying. I wish they had crammed 1 fewer shelf into the design, and given each shelf an extra 1/4" clearance.

The "complaints" about this cooler relate to wanting to fit different sized bottles -which isn't an issue for me as mine is full of Bordeaux in "standard" bottles.

I did an exhaustive review of reviews of wine coolers up to 166 bottles on every possible web site and found that compressor failure was an issue and warranty service farmed out to third parties was unreliable or non-existent.

Even though the cost of this GE at about $25 per "bottle slot" -the metric that was the easiest to use for comparative cost - is higher than the off-brands, it is much less than $50/bottle slot for a Subzero or Viking but those are two temperature zone coolers and I only wanted one zone figuring it made the cooler more complicated and more likely to fail.

You get a 5 year warranty on the whole unit from GE who presumably knows how to make refrigerators that don't break.

Although I buy most things at Amazon, Home Depot online had the same unit on sale at 10% less than Amazon with free delivery so I bought it there.

I have had good bottles of wine around for years and every once in awhile I get a bottle that had just been at room temperature too long and wasn't that good. Since I have gotten this unit I am confident that I can keep my wines until they have matured properly. So far this has been great and I love to get those special wines that I can hold without fear of spoilage. THIS was a great purchase.

I put this in my home theater room. I love the look of it. It's styling fits well in my modern home theater room. It sits on top of this desk I use as a counter and is next to all the snacks. Looks great. I love the mirrored finish. I turn the light on when I want to see through to the contents. This Refrigerator works just like my outdoor one by GE. It has one of those fans not any coils. So the fan turns on and off to cool the unit. This can be noisy if no other noise is present. By noisy I mean a gentle humming sound. It's the presence of sound that is what is different. However, I guess I hear my kitchen fridge humming too. The racks could be sturdier. I do not know how you would get the number of cans they said on the description in this unless you possibly turned them to the side. It cools well and my drinks are cool on the medium setting. I would definitely recommend this unit. I think those who reviewed this badly used in areas where they were bound to have issues. This is not an outdoor unit. So do not expect great results outside or in a non regulated garage setting. This fridge will be great if you use indoors in a temperature controlled area.

I'm not sure why they sell it as a see through mirror front face. You can barely see through it. It works great! Keeps all my drinks ice cold and the best part is it is almost completely silent as it runs.

It's not what I expected. I was hoping to be able to use this for drinks and beverages.

Few minuses:

Doesn't cool, if is hot outside, the beverage is not cold.

Runs continuously (not high efficiency as advertised)

I've had two of these so far.. They work great, noisy as all get-out, but die after about two years.. So get the extended warranty, so when it breaks and nobody can economically fix it, you get your money back from the warranty company. Then you can get a new one.. And do it again.. It uses a regular refrigerator-type ice maker, but for some reason makes six times the ice as the one in my refrigerator, and in the same room.. Other than the noise, and short life-span, it's great.. Oh, it's not frost-free, so you'll have shut it off and defrost it during the high humidity season.

Whatever you do, do not, I repeat, do not order this machine. It has been nothing but problems from day one, and my husband is a mechanic who was always fixing it.

After he fixed all the smaller problems and the warranty expired, he found out there was an internal leak which is a huge problem and would cost more to fix than what it is worth. So now it just holds the ice we buy from the store!

I hooked up the icemaker into my reverse osmosis water supply under the sink. Since reading the reviews I replaced the plastic nut on the water line input with a brass nut and compression fitting. Nice and tight, no leaks.

Plugged the unit in and turned it on. Nice and quiet operation compared to our old counter top icemaker. After ten minuets of operation there was a puddle of water under the icemaker. The water came from the water shutoff solenoid inside the icemaker. I had to remove the back grate, and push the palstic tubing into the plastic fitting tighter than when it was originally assembled. Obviously this icemaker was not tested at the factory or this defect would have presented itself.

After I repared the icemakers water system, i let it run overnight. The yield was less than impressive. With the icemaker running for about 12 hours, it produced ice that filled the bin by about 1/3. Enough for three soda drinks in large tumblers. I expect that we will out use the available ice each day this summer.

If we use the icemaker to its yield capacity each day, it will be running constantly. At 350 watts of power while running, that's some pretty expensive ice. That power consumption is the equivalent of my refrigerator / freezer running 24 hours a day.

So in summary, It's better than the countertop icemaker that I was previously using because I don't have to manually fill it with water. It produces about 1/3 the ice yield as the countertop icemaker. It uses 100 watts more power than the countertop icemaker. It runs much quieter, and the ice remains in a freezer compartment, so it doesn't melt like the ice in a countertop icemaker. Overall, it's nothing to write home about. The customer should not have to repair a brand new item to get it working the first time. The only reason that I repaired it was because I did not want to pay to ship it back for a simple repair.

Just installed this last weekend. First, took the advice of others on the internet and went to the hardware store to buy an ice maker installation kit that included a copper water tube and compression nuts. The plastic one that came with the machine was a joke!

Started making ice, but only making 8 small cubes at a time. Did a little research on the net, and found another who had the same problem, and how it was resolved with adjusting the size of the cubes. Did the same thing, and started getting 12 decent size cubes each production cycle. Nothing about this at all in the instruction booklet that came with the machine.

Makes a fair amount of ice, but no where near the 12 pounds that the manufacturer claims it will produce. Probably more like 6-7 pounds of ice per day.

Not a bad machine, but not great either. The biggest down side is the terrible instruction booklet that comes with it. If it wasn't for the internet, I would have sent it back since the instructions were useless as to how to remedy the ice production amounts.

puechased one june2010, nov stopped making ice called co. wa told to returm to co. sent back at my expense,l i had 5 year warrantee. they kept it one month, returned at my expense, plugged in and did not work called co. was told to get local repair man to fix, di at my expense, blwn compressor, co. shipped new one, repair man put in at my expense, yhat compressor was bad ,called co. they toled me to ship back at my expense told them no. final outcome spent $990.00 for machine, $99.00 for 5 year warrantee, $15.00 box an $78.00 for shipping to co, $200.00for repairman to check out , $200.00 for replacing conpressor,. when iyt was all said and done i used the machine for 6 months had the headaches of all the nonsence whith this machine, got reemburced for the bax,the shipping, and my two repair bills and finnaly whrn ecerything settled in june of 2011 i threw the machine out because it was not working and the co refused to send out another compressor, the warrentee co woud not pay to get one locally, anf it was in my way. not bad paid $1100.00for a machine that i used for 5 months, and thre away 6 months later, you have a wonderful system, i assure you that all my friends knew about and i talked my daughter in not buying another item from edgestar as i will every one that i hear of that wants to buy any of your products.

After receiving my refrigerator, I found that the only thing that worked was the light came on when you opened the door. The cooling system did not work from either power source. Called Koolatron about warranty and was told to contact vendor. Guess defective merchandise doesn't concern them. Vendor had me return unit at my own expense ($78.84) for them to verify the problem. They confirmed the unit was bad and shipped a replacement but refused to reimburse the cost of sending the defective unit back. Contacted Koolatron again and was once again told that it was my problem and not their's. Was really concerned that if the second fridge didn't work, would I have to again pay another shipping charge? The replacement does work but feel I had to unfairly pay an additional $78.84 for that privledge. Will never do business again with a company that has such a cavalier attitude about customer satisfaction.

The fridge works well (items remained quite cold inc. meat) but it deadened our battery after we switched the car off for 10hrs. We ended up unplugging it o/night which sort of defeated the purpose of having the fridge vs. an esky. Would work best with a 2nd battery.

I have had this for a month or so now and it has been working well. As other reviewers have mentioned, it does not come with a thermometer and I have yet to purchase one. I purchased this model primarily for it's dimensions. We built a bench around it. I like the removeable shelves, then larger bottles will fit if needed. The light is dim, we leave it on all the time as a night light. Overall, I am satisfied with this purchase.

I just wanted a simple wine cooler to fit under my cabinets and this one does it job just fine.

Keeps it cool and stores 16 bottles.

The only negative is that the plastic casing, doors are very cheap looking.

If you have more money, get a stainless steel version.

Anyone ever looking to get a new washer and dryer I HIGHLY recommend getting front loaders!! Arrive quickly only thing I would change would be the delivery guy advising new front load owners to remove the 3 shipping bolts behind washer before using. Other than that if you get front loaders its best to leave washer door open during long periods of not being use to avoid mold smells

This is an awesome fridge! I got it when I had trouble with people stealing things from the communal kitchen where I live. It's compact, super quiet, keeps your food really cold (I have it set at 4/6 for it's level of cold), and it looks pretty cool. It sits at the end of my bed, and I never even notice it when I'm going to bed. I have trouble going to bed unless things are really quiet, so I was pleasantly surprised by it's low noise output. This fridge is a great buy, and so far it's been really reliable.

When my home burned, I had to move back in with mom for awhile. My sister and her kids live there also, so after the 3rd time I tried fixing breakfast and discovered someone had drank all my milk and juice, I decided to get a compact fridge to keep in my room. Did a lot of research and found the Frigidaire 2.5 cubic foot compact refrigerator at Lowes for $129. It is super quiet I never hear it. Keeps food cold and has a tiny freezer for ice cubes and a couple lean cuisines. It LOCKS so nobody has been able to "borrow" my food when I'm not at home. Glass shelves are easy to clean. It's dependable and has a small footprint. It sits next to my bed and I use it as a nightstand/mini table. For the price (do your research to find the best price) and brand dependability, this is a great fridge.
