I research the heck out of major purchases, and one of my friends used to work at an appliance store, so I quickly found Bosch had possibly the best reputation for dishwashers.
After deciding to go with Bosch, it was just a question of which model.
After looking over the choices, it boiled down to this one, or one model below. This one was quieter, and more energy efficient. Electric rates in Connecticut are high enough that I expect to make up the cost difference between the two models with electricity savings.
So much for how I got here. Here's information from using it:
It's incredibly quiet the "noise level" when it's running is about what you'd expect from a new refrigerator. Noise is not going to be a reason to postpone running this one.
The racks have all sorts of adjustments most of the tines can be set at several angles ranging from 90 degrees to flat. Have extra bowls to wash? adjust a few tines. The top rack can be adjusted for height this allows me to fit the massive pot I use for brewing beer in the lower rack.
The silverware basket keeps the silverware separated so each item gets clean.
It has a gentle cycle that's good for delicate china and stemware. I was sorry to find the stemware holder is an optional accessory. We don't drink wine often, but it's about the only thing that seems to be missing.
So far everything we've put through this dishwasher has come out clean on one cycle. With our previous dishwasher, sometimes we'd need to soak and scrub some things before putting them through a second run. I'm using about half the soap I used to use per load because it doesn't have (or need) a prewash cup for soap.
The run time is longer than we were used to with our previous dishwasher. From my research I've found this is normal with more efficient dishwashers. Our longest cycle so far was 2 hours 25 minutes, and that was auto wash for a very full load with a sanitary cycle. They also offer a "party wash" cycle that's designed to be very fast for lightly soiled glasses or dishes.
You should use jetdry or a drying agent on every load. One reason it's so energy efficient is it doesn't normally add heat for drying. (but you can tell it to add heat if you want) Still, with using jetdry, the dishes are always dry when we check.
We expect to be in this house for many years, and looked at this appliance as a long term investment. So far, it looks like it was a good one.

Looks good and is so quiet it has a little red LED that shiones on the floor to let you know that it is washing.BUT...
Bosch customer service is horrible. The worst I have come across in 52 years.
The electronics are failure prone. We have had the dishwasher for 3 years and have had the control module fail 3 times. Each time it took a minimum of 3 service visits to get it replaced. The excuse we have heard each time is that Bosch dishwashers are relatively unknown and the parts are hard to get. The first time the electronics failed, it took 3 MONTHS to get it repaired and we are in a major metro area with a population of 4 million.
We will not purchase a Bosch dishwasher again, and when it fails next, we will buy CR's top rated Kenmore, which ios $1,000 cheaper and apparently much more reliable. We purchased this Bosch dishwasher SHX98M09UC after much Internet research 2 months ago and have used it every day since.
The dishwasher is light enough to be maneuvred into place by one person and the installation was rather simple with the very complete instructions provided. The operation manual is also clear and the controls easy to understand.
The design is stunning: all stainless in the front, with a heavy-duty handle and very nice digital display on the facade, although the actual touch controls are hidden on top of the door. The inside is stainless steel also, great at retaining heat. All accessories are high grades and we appreciate the adjustable top rack and removable silverware holders. As with all stainless appliances, it's hard to keep it looking clean very long as it shows finger prints a lot more than painted appliances.
The drain is covered with an easy-to-remove filter basket that we have not had to empty yet in 2 months of use (I understand some cheaper dishwashers have small "garbage-disposal" instead of a collecting basket, and those can fail or not always work properly as well as being noisy)
It's energy efficient as I understand the drying is performed by the heat retained in the walls of the washer. So far, we have not observed any difference in our electric bill.
I believe it also uses small amounts of water (it's a very small water line going to the washer and a few seconds are always enough to pump enough water for the program. Emptying is also very quick)
The cleanliness of the dishes is good on the Auto Wash program, which we have been using most.
With the recommended drying agent, glasses and fine china come out looking very good with no water spot.
Heavy soiled pots may need a little rinse before the wash, especially with some caked-on food, such as eggs.
Plastic ware comes out OK from the top rack and, with the limited heat of this dishwasher, is not warped.
The main reason why we decided on this washer is the noise rating: the quietest we could find in our price range. And on this point, we were just blown away! The first time we turned it on, we had trouble believing it was running! Our kitchen is open to the living room and now, no need to turn up the volume on the TV when the dishwasher is running (big difference from the old Whirlpool we had before). To me, this only is worth the high price tag!
Even the water emptying into the sink pipes is very quiet.
Before buying, I had considered the equivalent Kenmore Elite (same price) but the noise rating was 4 dB more (3 dB= double the noise!) and the racks a tad flimsier at first look. The Kenmore Elite had more gadgets such as a "turbo wash" nozzle, knife holder and additional washing programs and options. In general, I prefer simpler systems that are reliable and of high quality so I am very happy with this Bosch choice.
I would warmly recommend this appliance if you need a new dishwasher that doesn't rattle and wake you up!

UPDATE 2010: We have been using the dishwasher for nearly a year now and it's as great as the first day we got it.
The drain basket rarely needs emptying, the dishes are clean and never damaged (especially plastics), the washer is very easy to operate and most of all, it's so quiet it still surprises us!
Don't hesitate: this is an excellent buy!
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
UPDATE 1/27/2012: I am surprised to see that so many reviewers report issues so I wanted to add a couple comments:
Here, the dishwasher is going strong and it still looks as good as when we received it.
We have had one hiccup when we moved to Costco's Kirkland liquid dishwasher detergent: the dishes were no longer as clean as expected and it took us a while to figure out that going back to the tablets Bosch recommends for their machine would bring back the perfect performance. In the meantime, another liquid detergent gave us very poor results too (can't remember the brand?): it seems that this dishwasher should be used with tablets only.
Since going back to the recommended (is it Finish? It's the ones with the red ball in the center) tablets, we couldn't be happier!
I also noticed comments about dishes not being dry. I wanted to mention that we always use a rinse/dry agent (the washer indicates when it runs out). We have been changing brands depending on availability/sales so it must not be as important as using tablets. The only time the dishes are not completely dry is if you open the washer before the end of the program: it's a bit tricky because it sounds like nothing is happening anymore when it is drying; it is totally quiet but the display gives you a drying time.
I wish all could be as satisfied as we are...

We remodeled our kitchen and purchased this particular Bosch because it seemed like a great machine and there were some good reviews I decided to ignore the bad reviews thinking the complainers were just unhappy people. Well, now it is 3 months later and my dishes are not drying, the door is not functioning (it's floppy), and it is leaking all over my hardwood floors! (sorry complainers, i should have listened) I suspect all of these problems are related to each other, because it makes sense logically, but getting someone to come out and fix it has been awful and I live in the Metro DC area where you would think there'd be a lot of companies who would service Bosch when they are under warranty. Apparently many of the companies don't like to take warranty work (i'm sure the fee schedule is not very good for them) so its been a challenge. Only one company has been somewhat polite to me while I seek repair, and I'm going with them. In addition, and not related to the fact that it is broken, I think I underestimated how small this dishwasher actually is inside. It's very small, I can't fit nearly as much, and I am very good at loading so as to maximize use of the entire space. Nobody had this model on the floor, and since it was so expensive, I figured it would be larger inside than the others I did see. I'm not a fan of the silverware basket either, its awkward to use and fits very little. There was also this tray thing at the top that I can't figure out what it is for, and it is annoying. Maybe I need to read about what it is in the book. I will say that it is definitely quiet you can barely hear it that is rather amazing. I also think the red light is nice. Overall, I think I could have done better and spent far less and next time I will do a better job researching. Now, if I can just get this fixed!!The DW looked nice--really quiet, worked fine while it worked. But very poor reliability. Once it fails, you are out of luck. Authorized repair is backlogged (hmmm, I wonder why?), and knows they are the only choice you have. Calls to Bosch are useless-they have your money and will not stand behind their products--they told me "repairs are not our problem!!!" Costs for repairs are outrageous. And 'authorized repair' makes all-day appointments and does not show up or call, and when they finally showed up the 2nd day I took off work, they REPAIRED THE WRONG PART so it still didn't work and I had to miss a 3rd day of work for a single repair! After 2 repairs and needing a 3rd for $500, mine went to the dump and I replaced it with non-Bosch for half the price that cleans as well, actually works, and is 98% as quiet. I bought a Bosch front loading stacked washer about the same time as the DW--same issues--frequent overpriced repairs, poor service, etc. My old DW and washer were over 10 years old with no problems, and my new non-Bosch ones have needed no repairs-I wouldn't take a Bosch product for free.Saturday, June 21, 2014
Dual Zone Wine and Beverage Cooler
- Floor standing
- Made from stainless steel
- Black and silver color
- Fits approximately 19 bottles
- Includes Lock and key combination
Worst of all, the "customer service" at VinoTemp is pretty much non-existent. I expected that there was some problem that occurred in shipping that was causing the noise, and that they would either get someone out to repair it, explain how to troubleshoot it, or have me return it. Instead, I got an email that basically said "Oh, it's supposed to make that noise", and that was it. I told them I wanted to return it, and they pointed me to the fine print on their website that says that I can return it, but with a 35% restocking fee AND paying shipping both ways. Assuming shipping is the better part of $ each way, it would end up costing me $ to send it back. This was not the kind of quality or customer service that I expected in a $ wine fridge. I do not recommend this product or this company.

The cooling stopped at 1 day over the 1 year mark, and Vinotemp refused to cover any labor to repair the issue. They did offer to send me a part, free of charge, when a qualified mechanic determined the problem. The problem, however, would cost 380 dollars in labor to fix. The Mechanic actually told me this brand doesn't last long, and the best I could do is purchase a low-cost option and simply replace it in a year or two when it wears out. I am attempting a 300 dollar GE (with 4-year warranty) from Lowe's, and I will not purchase a Vinotemp again.Read Best Reviews of Dual Zone Wine and Beverage Cooler Here
I bought two of the wine/beverage fridges. They look great but do not work for long. Both fridges broke (stopped cooling) in less than two years. Fixing a small fridge like this is not cost effective and the company was not helpful in determining the failure mode. I will not buy this brand again.I agree with the other reviewers that have indicated that the quality is lacking on this unit. The inside fan that cycles on and off, on an off, on an off etc every twenty seconds is very annoying. Additionally, mine unit is barely three years old and the seal in between the two panes of glass on the front door failed so there is now condensation fogging up the glass and it cant be wiped off. I called the manufacturer and they want to charge me $200 for a replacement door and would not budge on the price even though this isnt the type of part that should fail in such a short period of time. I won't buy another one of these Vinotemp products. When the fogging up of the glass annoys me too much to bear I will replace the unit with another brand.I have seen other reviews talking about how this unit stops working after a year, sure enough 14 months in it stops working. At first it seemed like vinotemp was helpful as they said to have a tech come out and diagnos the problem and they would send me the part(s) for free.Well the problem is that there is a leak somewhere in the system that could take hours to even find. When I called vinotemp back asking for some type of price concession on a new unit they said they would talk to their manager and call me back. They never called me so I tried again and all they do now is send me to voicemail and will not call me back. Terrible product and customer service.Monday, December 16, 2013
Maytag MFF2558VEB 24.8 cu. ft. French Door Refrigerator (Black)Maytag : MFF255
- Electronic Dual Cool System
- Sealed FreshLock Crispers With Humidity Control
- QuietSeries 200 Sound Package
- Dimensions: (WHD) 35 5/8 X 69 7/8 X 35 1/2 In.
Let me be clear on this up front the fridge is nice, lots of space. This is NOT at all a review of the seller (it was purchased brick and mortar store).
The service is another story. Customer service is courteous BUT getting anything done is a HUGE pain in the rear. My wife and I bought this fridge from Home Depot in January this year (2011). We got it home let it sit for 24 hours before plugging it in. One week later we noticed ice cream not being very firm, few days later everything was thawed out.
I contacted Maytag service and began the nightmare of service:
First service appointment. Sears repair comes out to troubleshoot the fridge tells me the compressor is bad and needs to be replaced. The earliest they can get me in is 7 DAYS later, mind you I'm already 3 DAYS without a fridge.
Second service appointment. Return of Sears repairman. The compressor is replaced, dye dryer is installed (this is an important detail it allows other techs to use a UV light to spot any leaks). Fridge runs great, nice and cold, case closed....
Not so fast!
About 3 months go by and the same problem crops up we start to notice in the freezer. I contact Maytag service right away. I explain to them the situation, I ask for a replacement fridge at this point. They outright refuse to replace it and insist on having ANOTHER tech come out to troubleshoot the problem so they can get a "second opinion". The service rep conferences me in with the local Direct Maytag store. I specifically tell them to bring a UV light that the fridge has a dye dryer on it; to which I'm told "they'll make a note of it."
Third service appointment. Direct Maytag service shows up 4 days later. I kid you not, the tech comes ONLY WITH A MULTIMETER, no tools other than screwdriver!!! WTF?!?! Tells me that the compressor is bad no kidding. < sarcasm >I couldn't tell this by the fact my fridge was warmer than the outside air temp!< /sarcasm > He tells me they have to send someone else with the tools to look at it!
I'm going on 4 days of having to take off work now because they'll always be there between 8am 5pm!
Fourth service appointment. Direct Maytag shows up again this time within 2 days. Again, no UV light. Tech says he found a leak (not sure how) in the original work that Sears did he would like to "patch it". He refills the fridge with coolant (05/18/11).
Come yesterday (06/06/11) the fridge is warm again. I called Maytag AGAIN. Spoke with someone who told me they can't authorize a replacement fridge until they talk to Direct Maytag (who called them and spoke with them on the last repair in May while I stood there).
Be warned... Maytag was a acquired by Whirlpool!
I would recommend staying away from any of the following companies.. they all use the same parts and service teams:
Whirlpool, Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Brastemp, Consul, Bauknecht and Gladiator
I can imagine that the service would be right on par with this nightmare!I did not purchase from Amazon I love Amazon but I HATE THIS REFRIGERATOR and I will never buy MAYTAG again. This is my 2nd MAYTAG refrigerator in the last 6 yrs I thought the 1st one was just a lemon but then I got this one and I think ALL MAYTAGs are lemons!!!! 2 yrs into the 2nd refrigerator it would not cool anymore sears repair service came and replaced the thermostat then one month later thermostat failed again repair service came back said defective part put another thermostat on then 6 months after that guess what yep bad thermostat so they put another one on. I am now in the process of shopping for a new NON-MAYTAG refrigerator since I no longer can trust this one or the service people.

Maybe I'm unreasonable, but I expected a $1000 refrigerator to last more than 2 years. The warranty expired after one year, I am in the process of trying to get it repaired...
Want Maytag : MFF255 Discount?
I purchased the MFF2558VEW from HomeDepot August of 2011 and now I must call the HomeDepot because water (ice) pools at the bottom of the freezer. However before that, the complaints I keep seeing about the frost line where the Freezer closes has always been an issue. The inside of the refrigerator has a "humidity control" and the instructions tell you to use it when you see "extra" condensation building...worthless button. The temperature does fluctuate quite a bit and sometimes I just turn it off for 10 minutes and it seems to reset and maintain normal temperatures for 2-3 weeks before needing to do it again.Thankfully, I bought the extended warranty from HomeDepot and will be contacting them; I wanted to wait for the regular warranty to expire since dealing with Home Depot is much better than Maytag. I wish anyone luck on finding a quality refrigerator from any manufacturer. I will follow-up after I have the Home Depot folks look at it.Nothing but trouble. Replacement refrigerator needed new compressor. Can't get the old water filter out and so wasted $100.00 on buying replacements. Don't buy Maytag (actually whirlpool).

Supco RIM943 Replacement for Whirlpool 4317943
HOWEVER. I was really unsatisfied with the seller. Upon receiving the item I realized there were only two power cords, and as you can see from the image it should have 3. Of course the missing one was the one I needed. When I brought this to the attention of the seller I was told 'We sent you everything we had' and 'we can special order you the piece you need' (for a price). I got them my fridge model number and was told it would be 2-3 weeks for a special order.
I ended up going elsewhere to get the power cord and had it delivered in 2 days. The item pictured is NOT what they are selling. This icemaker is a (nearly) perfect match for less than half the price of the Sears replacement part. I was pleasantly surprised that even my old MAX ice accelerator unit fit perfectly. I had to remove the clips from my original with a pair of pliers, but the clips and unit fit right on. My only problem was the positioning of the lower screw support. Surprisingly, even though everything matched my original (even the color and special markings), I had to trim the lower support for it to fit over the ice container track. Also, be sure to remove the tab at the back of the unit where the water enters the tray. The plastic is scored, but I had to use scissors to remove the tab. You'll know what I mean when you see it!

Installing the ice maker is not Rocket Science. The hardest thing is likely to be cleaning out your freezer. You need to 1) clean out your freezer and put frozen food in an ice chest. 2) Find ice maker water shut off tap and turn water off may be under sink next to sink water shut offs. 3) Unplug refrigerator water and electricity do not mix. 4) Unplug ice maker electrical connection. This can be hard because the old one has been in there for years. You can end up skinning your knuckles. Try two sets of pliers pulling in opposite directions. Work it slowly because you do not want to damage the connector that goes into the fridge. 5) Using a flat blade screw driver and a set of hex drivers remove old ice maker remove screw below ice maker. take out or loosen hex head screws above ice maker. If you loosen the hex heads you should be able to slide the old ice maker up however the water inlet in the back may block the ice maker from moving up. Work with it! SAVE THE OLD SCREWS!!! 6) The kit comes with a selection of wiring harnesses select the one that looks like your old one and plug it into the new ice maker. There should be a wire with a plastic sleeve on it that fits into a clip behind the new ice maker. This is to hold the harness out of the way. 7) There is a new plastic piece that comes with the ice maker. It has two holes in it at right angles to each other. It comes with one screw. Use this to screw the plastic piece to the new ice maker. It can be a loose fit. Look at how the corresponding piece was fastened on the old one. 8) There is a U shaped indent in the top back of the ice maker. On mine this had to be cut out to fit the water inlet into the ice maker. Your model MAY be different see how it was on the old one. Using a sharp (hobby) knife cut this piece out. If you try to break it out with a set of pliers you make break it careful! 9) Connect the wiring harness (connected to the ice maker) to the plug in the back of the freezer. 10) The new ice maker should slide down over the hex head screws that were left in the side of the freezer. You may have trouble getting it on with the water connection sticking out. If so remove the back hex head screw. Once you have it in place with the front screw into the slot you can replace the back hex head screw and finger tighten it. 11) Put the bottom screw in and tighten all three. 12) Plug in refrigerator. 13) Turn on ice maker water tap. 14) Put frozen food back in freezer. All done! Freezer will have to get cold before it starts making ice.Read Best Reviews of Supco RIM943 Replacement for Whirlpool 4317943 Here

Installation was easy and it made ice for about a week. Then it began making a horrible noise so I called and they gave me some other number. A very nice man on the other end said: oh, it must have been dropped and if the (somethingoranother) is bent, it'll make that noise. I'll send you another one. And he did. And this one worked for about 2 weeks and then the entire refrigerator began vibrating and sounded like a jackhammer. Called the seller again and was told it was ordered in May and the warranty was up. They didn't know about the second unit and didn't care, then I was told to have a nice day and they hung up.Sunday, November 24, 2013

This is absolutely the BEST microwave I have ever had!!!!!Someone else here noted that you can't just punch in a time (say 3 min). While that is true (you must hit the 30 increment button) to get the time you want, in reality this doesn't take any longer than punching in 3:00. Clean and concise. An awesome little beauty that does everything I need. Heats up my drinks, melts my chocolate better than any other machine, potatoes turn out great and also does the steam bags to suit me. I really have to wonder how long it takes to figure out the control panels of OTHER microwaves. This is a short and sweet machine and I don't mind a bit paying a little more here at Amazon. The smallest ones at Wally World are $59.00 and aren't worth even a portion of that. Keep up the good work Whirlpool, you really nailed it on this small and mighty appliance.
One other note that seems minor but it turns out to be a great selling point for the less flexible among us. All other microwaves are built so you have to dip your head to get your stuff out or just clean the inside. Some wonderful genius made this machine so the shelf is elevated ....YEP you just look in at normal height and there is your heated stuff and you don't have to stand on your head to clean the interior. IT'S G-R-E-A-T-!!!!!!!
Want Whirlpool WMC20005YB 0.5 Cu. Ft. Black Countertop Microwave Discount?
I was looking for a small .5 cu ft microwave to replace two previous microwaves of similar size but different makes. This microwaves has done a great job after one year. Compared to the previous two, it is solid, reliable and quiet. More powerfull too. This has been our favorite small microwave that fits back into a corner of our counter top. Also, unlike the previous two small microwaves the rotating glass plate stays put better when loading and unloading and the unit is heavy enough that when you open and close the door the unit does not slide forwards or backwards. I am buying another one for my mother and thought I would chime in on a good product. A+++I am changing my feedback on this item. This little MW started out well, apart from being somewhat underpowered and a bit small inside (won't take many larger "TV dinner" type products). However, after about 10 weeks it suddenly developed a worrisome problem; it wouldn't stop when the timer went off. We didn't burn anything because we were there when it happened, but I don't know what would have happened if we hadn't. A loss of confidence means we have since replaced it with a more standard MW.
