SAMSUNG REMOCON; TM1052,MULTI - Part Number: AK59-00122A

SAMSUNG REMOCON; TM1052,MULTI - Part Number: AK59-00122AAs I am not much of a tech geek, I was worried that I purchased the exact replacement remote for our smart Samsung DVD player after the dog ate our original:( I used the number on the bottom of the destroyed remote and searched Amazon for that particular number. I found it but there was no picture and not much of a description blurb.

I got the replacement remote more quickly than was anticipated, and it was exactly what we needed.

SUCCESS!

Sears/Kenmore Replacement Carbon Pre-Filter for 83190 (4-Pack)

Sears/Kenmore Replacement Carbon Pre-Filter for 83190Great filters that are exactly what I needed. I ordered them hoping they would work for my filter as it is quite old now. They fit perfectly. Would definitely recommend.

Got this for my Oreck AirInstinct HEPA Large Room Air Purifier and it fits perfectly. Cheaper than Oreck's too. Since this Sears 83190 charcoal fits, I wonder if their HEPA filter would fit too: 83190 Sears/Kenmore HEPA Replacement Air Filter. I just got a new Oreck HEPA filter, but may try the Sears version next time, since it's so much cheaper. If this Sears charcoal fits, their HEPA should fit too. Happy ;oD

7.5 CF Two Door Apartment Size Refrigerator

7.5 CF Two Door Apartment Size RefrigeratorPurchased this fridge as it was one of the smaller "full-size" fridges I could find for a studio apartment. After thirteen months it died. Called Avanti and not only were they unwilling to do anything in terms of making it right, but they couldn't even give me the name of a repair outfit in NYC. Based on my experience I won't ever purchase another Avanti product.

PS: Just had another Avanti fridge die that I had purchased for another apartment four years ago. Four years is certainly better than 13 months but it's still fairly pathetic. A fridge used to last 15 years no problem...

I bought this Avanti model in February 2012. The fourth service rep. just left. First, water leaked into the veg. bin (two service calls to fix that), next, the frost free freezer started frosting up (service call number 3 needed new gasket), then the next day the fridge part stopped working.

Service rep number 4 has justed installed a new gasket and informed me that (1) I shouldn't open my freezer for four hours (I can live with that.) and (2) all I need to do is unplug the entire unit for 24 hours to restart the fridge. He could not tell what I could do with the $100. plus worth of food in my freezer while the fridge was unplugged. Calls to Avanti were useless. Their best offer was a new gasket, and a request to speak with a supervisor left me speaking with an answering machine. No response after 3 weeks. The last service rep advised me to invest in an extended warranty. What does that tell you? This product is garbage and the people who stand behind it basically don't. I can't say enough bad things about this product. Buyer beware.

Culligan IC-EZ-1 EZ-Change Icemaker/Drinking Water Filter, 3,000 Gallons

Culligan IC-EZ-1 EZ-Change Icemaker/Drinking Water Filter, 3,000 GallonsMy refrigerator has an ice maker, but no built-in filter. For years, I had been buying the snap in in-line type, but the prices have been creeping up and the availability has been diminishing.

This Culligan model has them beat. The price is good, it's easy to install, and very easy to replace cartridges. If you have an existing plastic water line, installation is trivial. This also works with copper lines, and is not much more difficult to use with them, except the instructions are not clear. The outside box says you can use either copper or plastic, but the included instructions don't mention the copper, or the additional tools needed to file the edge as the outside box mentions. Despite this, installation is trivial enough that it's not likely to be an issue.

If you do have copper, and need to fit things in a tight space, you might need to replace one end of the tube with plastic since short lengths of copper are relatively inflexible.

I also got one for my instant hot water tap on my kitchen sink. It's not "specially designed" for it as are the ones that are recommended for those, but they all take the same size tubes and have cold water coming in and going out. This one is far cheaper, does everything I want to make the water taste good, and there are enough Culligan options for anybody who wants a different level of filtration that you can pick what you need.

UPDATE:

Two years later, I removed it. It was not that there was any problem, but I installed a whole house filtration system and it was no longer needed. That showed me two things: First, the taste of the water did not change, meaning the Culligan worked just as well for me as the far more expensive system, at least with respect to taste. Second, it had been slowing down the flow of water on my instant hot water dispenser. The flow was noticeably faster without it, but I would not consider the slow down an inconvenience at least with respect to filling glasses or cups. Filling a pot of water is a different story, but the difference is understandable and what should be expected with this type of filter.

My fridge had an ice maker in it for nearly a year before I used it because I kept forgetting to buy a filter, I had to have someway to support it and have it not behind, but beside the fridge (the fridge sticks out too far as it is) This filter is the perfect answer. It was insanely easy to install, hasn't leaked a bit, is easy to replace the filters (just twist out the old and twist in the new) and the water tastes GREAT! I filter all my drinking water so putting unfiltered (ie disgusting) ice in my water or tea was out of the question! I love this filter and I love my ice maker! (the price on this is great, too!)

The co. needs to provide much better connections to water supply and refrigerator; too easy for connections to fail. After installation, with no sign of any leakage, the ref. connection failed (came apart) during the night causing considerable water damage to the dining room/kitchen floor and basement. Do not recommend this product.

I chose this filter because it has been connected to the refrigerator at work for over two years and we have never had any issues with it.

A couple notes:

1. It takes up a lot of space behind the refrigerator, so I mounted it in a cabinet next to the fridge. This resulted in several advantages including easy access to the filters (don't have to pull out the fridge to change the filter), and an easy way to watch for leaks (so far, there aren't any). The attached photos show my installation.

2. I opted for the expensive LDR 509 5175 Pex 25-Foot Ice Maker Connector tubing. The tubing is flanged on both ends, so the connections are secure and leak free. The tubing can be cut in the middle since the straight ends fit into the filter. Inserting the tubing into the filter required a significant push, but resulted in a very secure connection. I didn't need 25' but the extra cost was worth the worry free installation.

3. The water in our town is quite good, but has a strong chlorine taste and smell. This filter did an excellent job removing the chlorine, significantly improving the taste.

4. The instructions recommend securing the filter to the wall using a block of wood (see attached picture). This worked out very well since I was able to secure the block to a stud and then mount the filter to the block; however, attaching the filter using mollies would probably be just as secure.

I was very hopeful about this product, but I had a very hard time with the install. It is a relatively 'easy' install, but the problem is that it leaks once connected. I tried to install with plastic ice maker connection tubing but once I turned the water back on, strong leaks developed at the point where the tubing connected with the filter. So then I tried with my original copper tubing, cutting it to try the install. No dice, same leaks at connection points.

Attempting to install this product ended up costing me $26.

I replaced the copper tubing with a stainless steel connection like this, for a much more secure connection:

UPDATE 5/31/12: I found an ice maker filter that I am very happy with: Installs easily with 1/4" threaded connections no danger of leaks!

Watts WTS-SPCC120-44PB Stainless Steel Icemaker Supply Line, 10-Foot

Watts WTS-SPCC120-44PB Stainless Steel Icemaker Supply Line, 10-FootWe installed the Watts stainless refrigerator ice/water hookup line and we were very disappointed with the chemical taste given to the ice and water. The chemical taste persisted even after flushing with many gallons of water. We replaced it with copper tubing and now our water is fine. We sent an e-mail to Watts complaining but never heard back.

Our kitchen was flooded once when a the icemaker supply line burst, it was those cheap plastic ones. Replaced to this, much easier to connect(endings are factory installed), it fit perfectly to our GE fridge.

This is merely the Eastman PVC supply hose with a woven stainless steel shield. Don't think you're getting away from the PVC taste & smell buying stainless steel. Same hose. It's well built, easy to install, and of decent quality. Run a lot of water/ice (a lot) to clear out the PVC smell from the hose and the PVC hoses in your new fridge this product looks sturdy, installs easy. I ran the water through it to clear out manufacturing residue. After installation the water had a strong flavor of garden hose. My wife filled half a spagetti pot of water from the water dispenser. Still the nasty taste persists.

The water supply line completely filled my needs. It allows the refrigerator to be moved away from the wall without disturbing the connection.

Same quality you would get at Home Depot for about half the price. The copper tubing alternative is harder to work with for the same price.

Electrolux EW26SS70IS 25.9 cu. ft. Side by Side Refrigerator w/Wave-Touch - Stainless Steel

Electrolux EW26SS70IS 25.9 cu. ft. Side by Side Refrigerator w/Wave-Touch - Stainless SteelThis refrigerator looks great, has nice features, but its design and functionality fall short of its physical appearance. I have had this refrigerator for almost exactly 3 years. When I bought it, it was $2300 (Best Buy...they had the lowest price), and as with all things electronic, the price has gone down some since then. My criticism begins with the water and ice dispenser. The water dispenses at an acceptable rate, but within the first month of installing the new water filter (which needs to be done every 4-6 mos and costs $50-60/filter, pretty pricey, but not as bad as buying bottled), the water pressure noticeably decreases to the point that by the end of month 2, it's painfully slow (I counted to 25 before I got an 8 oz glass of water). The ice dispenser is a disaster. It's almost impossible to get ice into a glass without ice going all over the floor. I suspect this is a combination of 2 things: the shape of the cube (they're elongated, and invariably they back up in the mouth of the dispenser or the glass or water bottle into which I'm trying to get ice because they turn sideways) and short length the chute out of which the ice is funneled--I suspect it needs to be longer. But these issues are more inconvenience which I can live with (although for $2300, I would expect these features to work as advertised).

Now for the actual malfunctioning. On month 13, the computer that controls the temperature started malfunctioning. Specifically, the water dispenser (yes, the dispenser that did so slowly) would NOT SHUT OFF. When I took my glass out from under the dispenser--get this!--it kept dispensing water. I nearly flooded my kitchen floor b/c I didn't know I could hold down the lock 'button' (there are no buttons--it's entirely flat touch screen) to override the dispenser. 3 weeks and a backordered part later, and the over-achieving water dispenser was fixed. (The technician, by the way, told me he's repaired some 10 or 12 units that have had the same problem.)

Fast-forward 2 years. The unit made some suspicious low groaning-like sounds. I knew this wasn't good. But they subsided. For a week. Then the sound came back, only exponentially louder now. Dog growling at this beautiful, sleek appliance that sounded more 747 than hi tech gadget, I called for repair. Same tech as before, identifies the problem as a leaking ice maker. Orders part. The next morning, the readout that should be displaying the freezer and refrigerator temperatures is instead reading 'EF'. Two unopened half gallons of ice cream are melted, and the refrigerator is clearly not cold. The bottom of the freezer however contains (thankfully) properly frozen food. Another call to Geek Squad (despite purchasing what I wrongly assumed was a quality product, I still opted for the 5-year platinum extended warranty, and now I'm so glad I did!), and they tell me this sounds like an entirely different problem.

Are the leaking ice maker and inability for the unit to stay cold related? Who knows. Frankly, it doesn't matter. I've had enough problems that I now know I will NEVER purchase an Electrolux refrigerator again.

Oh, and ease and efficiency of cleaning the unit? IMPOSSIBLE. You need tools (!) to unscrew the drawers to gain access to the bottom of the refrigerator and freezer, where debris easily collects and you can equally easily see.

From everything I've read and based on my experience with other major appliances, go with LG. If I have one more issue with this unit, I'm replacing it with an LG model.

***UPDATE 9/2/2012***

After having the refrigerator serviced for the issue I detailed above, it turned out the fan responsible for ventilating and cooling the unit was blocked by construction debris the builder failed to clean up prior to install. It's been working since the fan was cleaned, but the ice maker continues to leak in the freezer, where the water freezes into a large block in on the top freezer shelf, and the unit makes unusual buzzing sounds, which the tech has been unable to fix. My opinion about Electrolux refrigerators remains unchanged--I will not buy this brand when it comes time to replace it.

I had read in some of the reveiws that the 10 watt bulbs utilized for electric clothes dryers were nothing more than cheap night life bulbs. I just recieved this bulb and I can tell you that it is not a night life bulb. The glass is much thicker and seems to have a more complex filliment. It is packed in a small cardboard box marked with the part number and manufactring data The bulb shape is slightly different than a night life bulb but it fits and works perfectly in my 9 year old Sears Kenmore Electric Dryer. Eight dollars seems a little steep but it is an appliance bulb and I did not have to drive around all day at 4 dollars/gallon to find this. Im happy.
