Haier WDNS116BBS Water Dispenser with LCD Display

Haier WDNS116BBS Water Dispenser with LCD DisplayIn concept, this is a very nice water dispenser. The electronic features are a nice touch and make it look like an advanced, sophisticated unit. Unforutnately the unit falls short in practical use features.

First and foremost, the dispenser makes your water taste absolutely terrible for quite a while. I followed the rinse out instructions from the manufacturer and ran several extra gallons through the dispenser. I tried letting water sit with a little bit of bleach as well. This helped reduce the bad taste some but didn't eliminate it. Two weeks into using this unit, I can't handle the chemical/rubber taste and I'm going to return it.

Secondly, the dispenser has no anti-spill cap for the water bottle. The dispenser is designed so that the user must completely remove the cap from the water bottle and then dump the water into the completely open reservoir. This results in splashing everywhere and wasted water. On top of this, you can't really remove the water bottle to save the water should you need to clean/store the unit (or if you want to save the rest of your water for another dispenser that doesn't make your water taste like chemicals...). I also don't like that your water is exposed to the air and that the top of your bottle sits in the puddle of water in the reservoir.

Finally, the unit is very large and takes up a good amount of space.

On the plus side, there is a nice drainage cap for cleaning out the unit. The electronics on the unit allow you to adjust the temperature of the hot and cold water separately to taste. The blue LED nightlight is a nice touch as well. The storage cabinet below may be a nice feature for some people, but I found it to be largely useless. If they made the storage compartment refrigerated or large enough to store a spare bottle I would have loved it.

For me the water taste issue made this an unusable water dispenser/cooler. I've read reviews elsewhere saying the same thing so I don't believe this to be an isolated incident. On the other hand, I just received a Primo unit (top loading because of the problems with the bottom load ones) and from cup one there are no water taste issues even without a rinse-out.

The machine itself would have been terrific if it wouldn't have that terrible bidder after taste

I have it for two weeks and the taste in the cold water is still there, (although I think that it's getting better)

Wasted plenty gallons of water trying to solve the problem but so far no major results

Overall this unit is ok. Water taste was a bit funky for the first week or so. Water is not as cold as I would like, but overall so far i would say this unit has been pretty solid(1 Month).

We purchased the unit for our office in Oct 2012. As others have stated, it is very difficult to replace the water tank without spilling water all over. The entire cap must be removed before turning the jug upside down. I'm 6'-1" about 210 lbs and its a struggle.

Also, the cold water is just below room temperature. The hot water has been consistently hot.

Lastly, it is rather loud for an office environment. This unit is near a refrigerator and when the refrigerator turns on you can barely hear it.

I would not recommend this unit.

First of all, I wish I would have read the reviews before I purchased this product. I brought it in BJs only because I really wanted a water cooler and this product was the only model available for sale. I was too lazy to wait and search for any other kind. I brought a water cooler from BJs before and it lasted about 10 years... So because it was BJs I gave it a try.

The Haier Cooler is a very good looking machine. Loved that it would go well in the kitchen. I liked the two sides hot and cold water spouts. I like the saftey latches, and the night light was a very kool feature.

I dont like the fact that I have to take the cap off the water and pour it directly into the hole of the cooler. This can get quite messy, and wasteful. I dont like that the well of water that the jug has to sit in. My water when drinking it does have an unusual taste, no matter how I clean the cooler it doesnt go away. The temperature of the hot water is not consistent. I have to keep pressing the temperature button at times to make sure the water stays heated. It is a disappointment when I go to have tea, that the supposely hot water is cold.

The last straw was when the water cooler started to leak everywhere!!!! wasting a new 5 gallon jug..... Because it was still under the manufacturers warrenty (purchased the unit Dec.22nd) I called Haiers Customer Service... they went through the whole registration of product, then read the instructions on what could be wrong and how to fix it (the leak; didnt mention the other problems of water not staying heated)... after many attempts, they promised to replace the product once they received my receipt, proof purchase, and signed agreement form. It seems they were polite and willing to do the right thing.

Although I am happy they are willing to replace the product, I believe I will look for another brand in the meantime because of the many problems I have had thus far... from the beginning. I will just chuck up the lost of $150. I will let you know if they made good on their promise.

GE WR30X10001 Ice Maker Assembly

GE WR30X10001 Ice Maker AssemblyI ordered what was advertised as an icemaker made by GE. The picture displayed was of a GE icemaker that looked nothing what was sent. I received an overpriced, cheap replacement that did not fit even though I gave the model# of the fridge before ordering. Now I am stuck with paying a shipping charge to get a refund even though I ordered the item they said would fit. This is bait&switch fraud.

  • GE - GSS20GEWWW

We bought this same refrigerator about five years ago. Since then we have had repeated problems with it. The doors had to be replaced once. The ice maker was replaced four times, one time when it started breaking up and mixing shards of plastic with the ice. We could have been killed.

This last time the ice maker flooded the kitchen within two hours. We called GE for repairs and the repairman came several days later. He installed a new ice maker and said everthing was fine. He turned on the water and said "All set to go." When we checked a few hours later, there was no ice, the kitchen was flooding, and sheets of water were coming down from the ceiling in our rec room. The GE repairman never turned the valve of the water line on completely, so it leaked far far worse than it ever had before. Knowing to turn water valves completely should be Repair 101. I called GE back at 3:15; the operator said she would e-mail an immediate request to the repair people in our area. A taped message contacted us some five days later. By that time we had bought a new, very different brand.

I can understand a product having problems. But when the factory authorized repairmen make the problems far, far worse, that manufacturer should be put out of business.

Avanti Thermo Electronic Cold and Room Temperature Water Dispenser, Countertop

Avanti Thermo Electronic Cold and Room Temperature Water Dispenser, Countertop
  • Ideal for use in small offices, homes, waiting rooms, and more
  • Convenient and lightweight countertop design
  • Holds three- and five-gallon bottles
  • Serves cold and room-temerature water
  • Available in white

This water dispenser has a very nice concept. I liked that it uses any type of refillable bottle. Unfortunately for me after having it a month it never shut off and no longer cooled the water.

I contacted Avanti since it is under warranty and was told to ship it back and they would send me out a new one. Only problem was that I had to cover the shipping over and back and if I wanted to make sure it actually got there, needed to also pay for insurance and tracking. This would have cost me nearly as much as the unit itself and after reading many reviews with negative outcomes even after replacement I didn't feel it was worth the cost. I guess I'll just continue to look for one that actually will work.

1st of all: do NOT believe the instruction booklet when it says not to wash out the unit before use! (They claim it comes ready for use from the factory.) It gave a really "off" flavor to the water till I rinsed out the unit thoroughly with baking soda dissolved in water. DO believe the people who say it takes a long time for water to get cold--it really does, especially the first time you use it. That said, we really like this unit now. It fits nicely on the counter, is easy to use, and provides our family of two with enough cold water.

Myself and a co-worker both purchased this unit from Amazon for infrequent usage. Both units leaked within 2 months, and 1 unit failed to cool the water after 2 weeks. Avanti would not honor the product's warranty because it was not purchased from them. I know its a low cost and everything, but spilling liters of water all over your desk and laser printer is not really worth the price in hindsight.

I purchased this water cooler a year ago and found the water temperature to be not very cold. Only cool but not ice cold, but it was better than tap water. It also made a loud noise when operating and would often do weird things that make it seem as if it is faulty. It would after a long time resume and again give cool water but never ice cold.Almost to the day, one year after purchase it died.I should have known. The reviews showed this up very clearly but I did not heed the warnings.Hope you know what you are doing when you purchase this piece of junk.

The whole 5 gallon of water leaked out all over the place. There is no way to tell if the water jug is seated properly when you change it. Pours very slow, there is an awful plastic taste and I am have a hard time returning it. There is no phone number to contact, what does that tell you?

You have to deal through email, by then your 30 days is over.

I will never buy another item from this company!

Samsung RF197ACPN 18 cu. Ft. French Door Refrigerator - Stainless PlatinumSams

Samsung RF197ACPN 18 cu. Ft. French Door Refrigerator - Stainless PlatinumI love this fridge but I am afraid of it.

First the love.. if you've been looking for a counter depth because you don't have much room in your kitchen then this, at the time of writing, is pretty much the only option. All of the other fridges made up for the depth with crazy width. The prices are also double for counter depth. This one is not. I live alone, so this is plenty of space for me. The platinum is also the best thing to ever happen. It looks like brushed nickel, which I will take over shiny stainless any day. Stainless is also the worst when it comes to showing fingerprints. I've had this fridge for three months now and open it with smudgy hands and have yet to even clean the front of this thing. You can't put finger prints on it.

The not-so-much-love.

The Handles.. so far, really so good. But alot of people have complained they fall off. The freezer door handle popped off the first time I used it but now I make sure to open with a specific motion and it's okay. We'll see after a year.

The plug is a straight plug and you need to leave a few inches in the back making this not exactly counter depth anymore. Maybe this is the case with all other fridges anyway, and while it's not counter depth, maybe it's still a few inches better than the others.

The adjustable shelves are not so adjustable. They give you barely an inch of discretion. You can put a SMALL Brita pitcher or a 2L bottle at the bottom of the door at an angle but you will not be able to put them in the regular shelves unless you remove one, decreasing your storage capacity. this was a major annoyance for a week and then I just got used to it.

The scary.

This fridge makes about six different kinds of noises. It's not nois-Y, but it has a different noise for kicking in, for when you've closed the fridge door, when you've closed the freezer door and then a random.. i don't know what. So far it works perfectly but I am constantly in fear that one of these noises should not be and that it's going to break. The scariest sounds like the edge of a fan hitting something plastic for a split second and then it stops. It was sudden and startling when I first got it but am now getting used to it.

So, that's the scoop. I want to love it unconditionally but only time will tell. It was the ONLY option for my kitchen when factoring in depth, width, my budget and the color.

Power cord issue:

The installation instruction taped on the unit shows a flat wall plug (90 degrees, with cord hanging down) but it does NOT come with this type of plug. Instead you get a straight power plug adding to the depth of the unit. The diagram is misleading to the plug you receive.

Also in the manual on page 4 under the title "Safety Information" it states: "Connect the power plug in the proper position with the cord hanging down. If you connect the power plug upside down, the wire can get cut off and cause a fire or electric shock." The manual is misleading to the plug you receive.

I contacted Samsung and this is what they said:

"We have cross checked the refrigerator model and found that it does come with the straight power plug.

However, we would like to inform you that the recommended clearance behind the refrigerator is 2 inches."

I would like to put only 2 inches but it is not possible with the straight power plug.

I contacted Samsung again and they said there was nothing they can do. They said they switched manufactures and this may of been a change. Samsung gave me their parts department (3rd party), however they do not sell a flat power plug for this unit.

I also posted a similar comment on the Samsung website, but they choose not to publish it, wonder why?

Buyer beware: If your buying this for space saving then reconsider. It came with a straight plug as opposed to a flat wall plug (90 degrees with cord hanging down) so it makes the unit sticks out about 3" as opposed to 2". Yes, it's only an inch but every inch matters.

We bought this fridge only to discover that it makes REALLY LOUD buzzing sounds on a regular basis. The sound is so loud it sounds like a fire alarm we can hear it throughout the entire house and wakes the baby up! It is tremendously annoying and makes us doubt Samsung technology. I do not recommend this product.

Letter to Consumer Reports:

I bought this SAMSUNG RF266ABRS fridge because it was recommended by Consumer Reports in August 2009. This fridge and other SAMSUNG fridges should be taken off the recommended list because there is an inherent design defect that causes ice buildup on the evaporator coils.

First there is a rattling noise as the fan hits the ice buildup.

Then the noise stops when the ice completely blocks the fan but then there is no more cooling happening.

There is even a class action lawsuit against SAMSUNG fridges:

Please look into this Samsung ice buildup problem. The Samsung fridges should definitively not be on the recommended list but put on the "do not buy" list. The ice buildup issue occurs about 1 year after purchase. SAMSUNG is not acknowledging the problem and does not help its customers.

Letter to SAMSUNG:

I am deeply unsatisfied on how SAMSUNG handled the warranty policy with my SAMSUNG Fridge French Door Model RF266ABRS. This fridge was defective starting Year 1 and was not repaired appropriately the 1st time. All was done on the 1st service visit was to defrost the evaporator not fixing the problem itself.

Of course, the problem reoccurred 1 year later and every year after that. Since the technician explained the problem, how to solve it and SAMSUNG customer service gave me a hard time because it was a few days over the 1 year purchase date, I dealt with it personally by unplugging the unit and let it sit unplug for 24 hours. Not a satisfactory resolution, just a quick workaround, until I got fed up with losing food and asked for SAMSUNG to resolve this problem once and for all.

First this problem should have been resolved the 1st visit. Secondly I learned recently from numerous complaints and videos on the web that this is a defective design in SAMSUNG fridges that causes the ice buildup on the evaporator.

Here is a video showing the defrost sensor modification kit to fix evaporator ice buildup. This is for the SAMSUNG RSH1 fridge but it is the same modification that was done on my fridge by the repair technician who came to my house:

Many SAMSUNG fridges have the same cooling design thus sharing the same ice buildup issue.

I was charged $104.68 to fix SAMSUNG own defective design! This is outrageous and no decent company would shift the cost from itself to their customers . It shows utter disrespect for its own customers, not counting the monetary damage. Sir, should I remind you that your customers are your most important assets and should be your priority number one!

SAMSUNG should have done everything in its power to help its loyal customers by fixing its defective fridges FREE OF CHARGE.

The technician explained that he had to move the defrost sensor away from the evaporator in order to let the defrost cycle run longer and completely defrost the evaporator from any ice buildup. He also put a wider drain clip. The older clip was too small. It would get iced up and not let water drain away from the evaporator. There is also a new metal clip that attaches to the heating element and goes inside the drain clip to heat any ice there if needed so the drain cannot get clogged. In addition, a new seal kit put on the market by SAMSUNG 3 months ago was used to seal the evaporator compartment to prevent moisture to get in and improve circulation airflow provided by the fan.

I bought this refrigerator in January from a well known appliance company (S...rs). I say this because I buy tons of stuff through Amazon, but in the following tale I want to make clear that the problem was not inept installation on my part. The shiny new refrigerator was delivered and installed. That evening, I bought $374 in perishable groceries; plus I transferred my child's $1300 in drugs into the refrigerator. Next morning I realized the refrigerator wasn't cooling. So I called Samsung and worked through their troubleshooting process. Samsung agreed the refrigerator didn't work and directed me to call the retailer, whose repairman inspected the unit and diagnosed the problem: Shipped without coolant. Can you believe it? Was the coolant-installer absent from work that day? It gets better. The appliance company exchanged the refrigerator two days later, but of course the food and drugs were spoiled. Now Samsung is limiting the food cost replacement to $200. And, get this, the reimbursement process has now been in the works for 4 months. The latest hitch: Samsung says, gee, the repair ticket (which contains the repairman's diagnosis of "no coolant") is not enough, we need more proof that the refrigerator was exchanged or repaired. Alas, the appliance company doesn't issue receipts for those kinds of replacements. I have now spent probably 4 hours talking to 6 different Samsung "Executive Customer Relations" CSRs. That latest said he thinks he can process the claim with what I have submitted. We'll see. Summary: if nothing goes wrong, swell, but if it does, Samsung's "Executive Customer Relations" may leave you hanging.

Whirlpool 61006199 Defrost Heater for Refrigerator

Whirlpool 61006199 Defrost Heater for RefrigeratorWhen my 14-year-old Maytag refrigerator appeared to stop cooling, I knew by experience to look to see if the coils in the freezer compartment were iced. In this instance, they were so caked with ice such that no air could circulate through the system. Without air circulating through these coils, the refrigerator will to fail to cool. Typically you will notice a change in the cooling quality over a period of a few days, as this doesn't happen overnight. Using a hair dryer I was able to thaw this ice and get the system running again temporarily.

I know from experience that frozen coils like this usually mean that the defrost unit has failed, and it's been my experience that these defrost heaters are typically the point of failure. I immediately looked up the part number online, then searched for the part on several sites, including Amazon. I was able to get this replacement part for far less from Amazon than any other retailer, and as a Prime member, to get it overnight for $4. The part arrived overnight, as promised, and it took me 15 minutes to install the part. Installation involved removing the back panel in the freezer (4 screws,) disconnecting one power plug, unclipping the thermostat from the refrigerant line, and removing the failed heater unit. Replacement involves performing the process in reverse with the replacement part. For about $40 I was able to perform a repair that had cost me over $200 on a similar refrigerator 13 years ago when I called for a repair. The refrigerator is working great. I saved a lot of money, performed the repair myself the next day and without a lot of effort. Thank you Amazon for making items like this available to us "handy folks" who want to resolve their own problems when possible!

It is easy to install, Buying stuffs from Amazon is great, easy and many choices. I received product much quick than I thought. Thanks.

Nostalgia Electrics RRF325HNBLK Retro Series 3.1 Cubic Feet Compact Refrigerator Freezer

Nostalgia Electrics RRF325HNBLK Retro Series 3.1 Cubic Feet Compact Refrigerator FreezerI just purchased this fridge for my "Man Cave" and I am very happy with the purchase. The fridge is great for the retro look. I purchased the black model and it is the color of "flat black" not polished which resembles the look from this era. The handles are plastic and held to the door with four screws so they are very sturdy. All decals on the door are from stickers and could be ripped off without proper care. All these things that are not well made are just cosmetic and have nothing to do with the functionality of the fridge itself. The freezer is good size and gets very cold. The fridge has all the compartments you would need from a 3.1 cubic feet fridge, which is a great size for any dorm or bar fridge. The fridge runs very quiet for you can barley here it when it's on. The regulator is very easy to read and easy to use. The light is nice and bright and I was very surprise to see a light inside a very small fridge. I do also recommend the Nostalgia Electrics Kegerator which I also have. One great thing about Nostalgia cooling products is that everything gets cold and stays cold. I would recommend this product for anyone looking for a small dorm fridge or beverage fridge.

This is the best designed and built compact refrigerator I've ever owned. It reached temperature in just a few hours and the separate freezer is vastly superior to the usual plastic door. Both the freezer section and the refrigerator section are roomy and well thought out. Add that quality to the low price and this is truly a bargain.

LG LT500P Vertical Refrigerator Water Filter, 1-Pack

LG LT500P Vertical Refrigerator Water Filter, 1-PackI have ordered from this exact page before and always received the pictured, CUNO water filter (made by 3M). This time a much cheaper 'bargain' filter was substituted...although at the full $35 price. This is what you'd get if you ordered one of the $20 something bargain filters. Beware...Potential Dynamix LLC or Direct Super Center via Amazon Fulfillment is sending out a different filter than pictured! A vastly inferior product.

Plus, the filter they sent is only good for 300 gallons, not the 500 gallons the filter on this page is rated for.

I ordered two LG filters by Cuno as was originally in our LG refrigerator but received two filters for Kenmore refrigerators by a different manufacturer. They arrived quickly and in good order. They seem to be well made, are very similar to the original and are rated for 500 gallons so I kept them. It has been a few weeks since installation and the water is clear and odorless so the filter seems to be effective. What I am not entirely satisfied with is the fact that I received a substitution by a different maker than what was described and pictured and I have to assume are of similar quality.

We have public water that's mildly chlorinated. This filter removed all traces of chlorine taste and that somewhat "fishy" taste from summer algae blooms for over a year. In fact, it was the best tasting water I'd had in 30 years!

These filters are meant to last 6 months or so but for us delivered good water for over a year (could be we don't drink as much water as average families).

We have this fridge. It has great features-alarm, water filter, temp setting ability and it fit the space we had. However, the major design flaw is that the freezer breaks its seal when the fridge door slams and then the freezer thaws. You actually have to hold the freezer door shut as you shut the fridge door. It's embarassing! This fridge requires more care and attention than our aging cats! I'm ready to stick it in the garage and buy something new-and it's only been a year.

Not sure about the freezer sealing issue the "vine member" had, but this model has been wonderful for my family. I kinda love it really.

The box store delivery guys were nervous that it wouldn't fit in the 36" wide space, but this is a square fridge. No rounded sides or bowing, so she slid right into place. She is not counter depth though. Its over by about 4" at 31", minus the handles. The sides are grey so it does not scream at you like most fridges do when they stick out. So the specs listed are correct and pretty exact.

Gallon sized containers fit in the door, which we LOVE. Compartments are perfect for all the fresh veggies we buy at the farmers market on sundays. Freezer is spacious, but the compartments do not all adjust. Not a big deal, but would have been nice to move them around like you can with the fridge side. Love the cubed or crushed ice. Water dispenses cold every time, unless you do a huge jug.

Only negative is the stainless steel is not the fingerprint proof kind. I wish I had purchased one that didn't need to be cleaned so often. The stainless does look amazing though, so its worth it.

Over all, I would buy this fridge again (so far) and I would recommend it to a friend.

Water Sentinel WSF-1 Refrigerator Replacement Filter

Water Sentinel WSF-1 Refrigerator Replacement FilterThis filter arrived just a day after I ordered it. It fits my fridge perfectly, and delivers clean, fresh water longer than that brand name cartridge ever did! I will definitely purchase this product again when the time comes.

I am so-so with this filter. The problem I have with it is the slight rotten egg/sulfer smell that it leaves in your water. If it wasn't for the slightly bad smell, I would have given it a higher rating.

I run a large pre-filter before the fridge. Bearing that in mind im sure the more expensive filters have better things in them, but for the price, if you change them regularly with or without a pre-filter I think these will keep the big stuff out and do just fine.

They fit is the factory filter did.
