Bought a two-pack a year ago. The appeal for me is they have a 'greener' manufacturing process, assuming of course the description is on the up and up. To get the best filtration/taste, it _is_ important to ensure that the full amount of initial water run-through is done, otherwise you may notice some odd taste.

Our Samsung stock filters were very slow after about a week of use. These are much better but there seems to be a chlorine aftertaste that we did not get as much of before. Jury is still out.

When compared to other brands, the Pentek seems nearly identical in design, filtration quality and durability; but it actually costs less than the leading brand in my area. The leading brand is rated at 6mo / 16,000 gallons . The Pentek is rated at 4mo / 16,000 gallons which seems a little odd as they both have the same amount of gal/filter rating and I've had no problems using Pentek S1-BB's past 4 months.

** The rating of 4mo / 6mo is dependent on your water usage and water quality. Push the filter too much and it could clog eventually, slowing water pressure.

Overall the Pentek S1-BB filter is a quality product. It works as advertised and easily can go 6 months without needing to be changed (I only use around 2200-2500 gal/mo). Durable design, like the leading brand(in my area), and a very fair price make this an great replacement filter to use when the time comes to replace your Whole House water filter. 4 stars.

I read all reviews before purchasing and knew going in about the first 4 `Cons' I've listed, but I was okay with that. What I had not read anywhere was `Con'# 5 (the unit's inability to get as cold as documented), so I will focus on that...

First things first, the manufacturer (Wine Enthusiast) states the internal temperature range is 50 66 F +/7 degrees. Although they state the proper temperature for both whites and reds is between 53 and 57 I have to disagree. I have read and discussed with many `wine enthusiasts' (wine makers, store owners, and drinkers) the proper chilling temp for white is 45 47 F. I `assumed' (bad idea) that I could set each side at 50 F and expect to have the lower sections reach 43 F. Therefore I could chill whites on the lower shelves and reds on the upper shelves. I figured this would meet my needs and decided to purchase the unit.

I ordered the fridge from Amazon and received it within days. I anxiously unpacked it, plugged it in, set the temp to 50 F on both sides, placed a couple tester bottles in it from my other chiller and waited. 24 hours later I grabbed the bottles and tested the bottle temp (using an infrared thermometer used to test surface temperature). To my surprise the lower bottles on each side were only 54 55 F, while the upper bottles were as warm as 59 F. Thinking my gun needed calibration I decided to test the internal temp of the unit. I placed two thermometers at the bottom of the left side (one digital and one analog/liquid) and waited another 24 hours. I checked each thermometer and sure enough the left side was only getting as low as 54 degrees (I repeated the test on the right side, same results).

I phoned Wine Enthusiast and they told me to unplug the unit, wait a couple hours, and plug it back in to `reset' the thermostat. I did that and conducted the same test (with all three thermometers) 24 hours later and received the exact same results. I called back the next day and spoke to a technical representative who said possibly a board was bad and they would ship me another unit.

The shipment came about a week later and again I conducted the same tests. This time the temperature range was 51 53 F (lower section to upper section, respectively). I checked the temperature over the next several days and it never wavered (51 F lower section, 53 F upper section both sides). So although the temperature was steady it was not cold enough to truly `chill' white wine.

After contemplating my options I decided to keep the unit and store only reds in it. I think it would be fine for storing whites as well but not for chilling. I have another unit that goes as low as 41 (actually tested at 37 F) so I use that for my whites and the Wine Enthusiast for my reds.

Solutions for common issues:

To resolve pinot bottle storage, I remove the top rack and store pinot bottles on the next available rack (only 2 per side will fit comfortably) but this reduces total capacity by 8 bottles. The top rack is pretty much useless due to its proximity to the thermostat anyway.

To resolve the scraping, I use a 3 2 3 configuration. I flip every other rack upside down and this prevents scraping (but it reduces the storage capacity by another 6 bottles).

Bottom Line, there are a lot of bargain wine `cellars' out there and from what I've read all have issues. However, I would not recommend this one to anyone wanting to chill whites. If you only want to store reds then maybe this is for you, but don't be fooled into thinking it can store anywhere near 48 bottles (I think the total is closer to 32).

Item was delivered 15 days after it was ordered only to arrive damaged (looked like it was dropped a couple times). The doors didn't shut and the top was bent. After being on hold for 20 min, they were gracious enough to re-ship another unit but did not allow for the option to expedite shipping or change to a different carrier. The second item arrived 21 days later and was in worse condition than the first. The doors were ajar and the entire back was bent in. After another 30 minute telephone conversation, they agreed to refund the purchase price but were not going to refund the $85 shipping until I requested it. Very frustrating experience.

Wine Enthusiast does not provide direct service on wine coolers. They won't tell you this, but these wine coolers do not utilize a compressor. Instead, it is cooled by two small thermoelectric cooling chips located in the rear of the cooler. There is one thermoelectric chip on each side which are cooled by a small fan. These chips fail regularly, but Wine Enthusiast will not pay to replace these chips once the warranty expires. Instead, they can only be purchased from an outside vendor. Replacing the chips is not easy. It involves removing the back of the wine cooler and disassembling the cooling module. Bottom line, this is a cheaply made wine refrigerator and will not last for many years.

I really don't care if this is an "original" part or not. It was cheap, installed easily for this novice, and at least so far is doing what it is supposed to do.

Purchased this defrost heater (twice) for our GE Adora Side-by-Side [Model No DSS25KSRE]Refrigerator. We knew we had a problem in the defrost system and/or motherboard or fan so at the same time that we installed this new defrost heater we installed a new defrost thermostat, evaporator fan motor w/thermistor, and motherboard. Everything was working great for about 24 hours when we started smelling an awful chemical/rubber burning smell. The defrost heater had melted the end rubber pieces. We ordered another one, installed it and it did the same thing.

We had to transfer everything frozen to our deep freezer and everything regrigerated to a mini fridge until we got the part. We found out we needed a new Defrost Heater. Unpluged refrig. ,removed old heater and the new one was exact replacement. Make sure the leads plug in as when removed. All the parts were exact. The panel was put back and the referig. was plugged in and turn on. It was as good as new. Buy from amazon and save money.

I've had this unit for about 3 weeks and it's running quite well. It arrived quickly and undamaged. Packing could have been better but since it arrived OK, no problem. It fits 18 normal wine bottles (750ml). It's quite quiet (certainly less noisy than the Cusinart I had). Temperature is adjustable and accurate. Obviously it allows for one temperature, so if you like your white wines chilled you'll probably have to move it to the fridge and hour before you open the bottle.

Overall I'm very happy with this unit. We called a wine store for a recommendation and this is the manufacturer he recommended.

Pros: Looks nice, easy interface, temperature control is pretty quick. The other review is right, the packaging is very good.

Cons: The big con is that this unit will NOT fit all 750ml bottles adequately. I bought a long-necked bottle of Riesling...it's an inch too long to fit! I had to lay it diagonally across the bottom tray, taking up 3 spaces. I bought a wide 750ml bottle of Pinot, and a bottle of port..they're too wide to fit the middle racks. I have to stick them in the top rack. Ok, I understand it's not meant to hold 18 port bottles but you'd figure that the rest of the wider red bottles should fit. But no. Even some other moderately-wide 750ml bottles seem to have trouble fitting into the middle racks.

If the unit was just a little a couple inches taller and deeper to accommodate more 750ml bottle shapes, it would be a great device. As is, expect to fit about ~15 bottles, and have some squeezing/rearranging issues.

Purchased this wine cooler in November '10, stopped working in July '11. When i first began using it, it took awhile to get down the to proper temperature something like 3 days. But once it did, it was fine. However, when summer came along the unit couldn't get the temp below 65 degrees, sometimes struggling at 68-69 degrees. After about a week in the high sixties, the temp shot up to 80 degrees, even though the temperature of the room was in the mid 70s. Warranty is 90 days, so I now have to purchase a replacement cooling system for $50 i hope the service instructions are good.

Poor quality, I would look elsewhere.

They sent the wrong cooling system first, then when the correct unit came, it did not work. This whole experience from the product to the service has been a joke.

First, unfortunately the first refrigerator came damaged not evVive's fault, but the delivery company. However, evVive QUICKLY replaced the first refrigerator, and the second one had not a scratch on it. That was easily done.

We have only been using the refrigerator for 2 weeks, however, we can actually see a difference on our electric usage. It is absolutely as energy efficient as they say. If you are off the grid with alternative energy (we have solar), the nice thing about this is there is no super high drain with the compressor comes on whatever they've done with the new compressor, it actually ramps up slowly. This is a must for off-the-grid energy systems, but a plus even if you're on the grid (your electric company would do well for EVERYONE to have a refrigerator like this).

This is almost as energy efficient as the refrigerators that are built for off the grid homes but it was less than half the price of those others. For the dollar, this is really the best deal going.

Yes, this review was focused for solar/wind homes, but EVERYTHING applies even if you're on the grid. In addition to the energy efficiency, we have already gotten use to the french door style of refigerator (we had a side-by-side); the inside is roomy, well enough laid out. The freezer took a little getting used to.

Unfortunatly, I will say the shipping company they used was less than desirable again, not their fault, and the shipping is probably less problematic in other parts of the county (better than here in Kansas, anyway).

Water Sentinel WSF-1 Refrigerator Replacement Filter

This filter arrived just a day after I ordered it. It fits my fridge perfectly, and delivers clean, fresh water longer than that brand name cartridge ever did! I will definitely purchase this product again when the time comes.

I am so-so with this filter. The problem I have with it is the slight rotten egg/sulfer smell that it leaves in your water. If it wasn't for the slightly bad smell, I would have given it a higher rating.

I run a large pre-filter before the fridge. Bearing that in mind im sure the more expensive filters have better things in them, but for the price, if you change them regularly with or without a pre-filter I think these will keep the big stuff out and do just fine.
