Now that my mother-in-law lives with us, she needed a way to tell if the dishwasher had dirty or clean dishes. Since we have a JRT,we had to have this.

Makes running the dishwasher a pleasure. I chuckle everytime I turn it. It was exactly what I was looking for when I went on line that day.

Adorable Jack Russell Reminder. It makes it quite obvious as to whether the dishes in the dishwasher are dirty or clean. Even if you can't read, Jack is either sitting right side up with dirty dishes at his feet or right side up with soap bubbles and clean dishes at his feet.

If your a Jack Russell Terrier lover :D, it's a nice addition to your kitchen and hopefully it will keep your family from putting dirty dishes in with the clean ones....though some people are beyond hope. :(

Keggermeister KM2800SS Kegerator Full-Size Single-Tap Beer Refrigerator and Dispenser, Stainless St

Keggermeister KM2800SS Kegerator Full-Size Single-Tap Beer Refrigerator and Dispenser, Stainless Steel
  • Full-size single-tap beer dispenser keeps beer fresh for up to 3 months
  • Accommodates a full-size keg, pony keg, or 2 5-gallon kegs
  • Adjustable temperature control; 3-sided chrome guard rail around top work surface
  • Smooth-rolling casters; UL-approved for commercial use; CO2 bottle included
  • Measures 25 by 21 by 49 inches

The Kegerator comes packaged in double "double walled" boxes with a lot of Styrofoam packaging materials and materials. All of the minor components are neatly organized in a separate box inside of the Kegerator fridge. After removing all the pieces and laying them out, I began to read the instruction manual. The manual content is very clear and concise with well illustrated pictures on the assembly of the unit and pieces. The box was undamaged in shipping .

Assembly is fairly simple, anyone with basic knowledge of hand tools should have no problem. It takes about 20-30 minutes to get it put together and running, the one thing I would advise any owner is to take your time and learn the pieces of the dispensing system while you assemble it. This is critical in understanding how everything works in order to be able to trouble shoot any issues should they arise.

The unit comes with a 2.5lb C02 tank that I was able to get filled up for less than ten bucks. I recommend a local paint ball shop since they are better equipped to fill this size of tanks up. Welding supply shops also work.

Once everything is assembled and it was plugged in it turned right on and gave a silent hum as if to let me know it was on. Even with the compressor cycling on and off it still maintains a very minimal noise level.

After allowing the refrigerator to operate with no keg in it for 24 hours I decided to give it a test drive. The first keg used was a Pony Keg of Budlight. After letting the Keg sit and cool in the Kegerator for another 24 hours it was time for the first pour which resulted in nothing but foam. After doing a bit of trouble shooting I realized I had opened the valve on the C02 tank all the way for max flow. This resulted in over pressurizing the keg. To fix this I closed the valve and adjusted the regulator to having it near closed. I then pulled the pressure release pin on the coupler releasing the built up C02 in the keg. The next glass I poured came out perfectly pure golden bliss with a decent layer of foam.

About 40 minutes layer I tried to fill up a pitcher of beer and was presented with a near perfect pour. This was more than enough of evidence that there was a consistent pressure and was at an optimal level for consistent pouring.

I purchased the black unit after a side by side comparison the stainless steel definitely would look great in someones kitchen. The reason why i did not purchase the stainless steel unit is because i preferred the black exterior. The chrome guardrail and stainless steel spout add a nice touch to the overall exterior of the unit. Cleanup is easy and was simple with just a bit of standard surface cleaner. I was also able to change out the tap handle with a standard Brewing Company handle.

Keg's that have been run through this unit: Pyramid Hefeweizen, Budlight, Budweiser, and Dos Equis

I guess I should have known this unit would be made in China, thus the reason it seemed so reasonably priced. I bought this unit from another source so Amazon is not reflected in this review at all. The unit had minor damage from its long journey. The instruction booklet is a joke. You get a bag of small rubber washers and parts of various sizes with no cross reference to where they go. If they told you thickness and diameter of the washers relating to where they go it would have helped. The Co2 line is very small diameter and possibly inadequate. The biggest problem is unit will not get beer colder than 45 degrees at best with the thermostat maxed out. I won't go into the support or lack thereof since Amazon was not involved in this transaction. My advise, look at another unit or do your own conversion making sure to get a thermostat that will get beer cold.

For the price, this is a great buy. I've read mixed reviews, but had no trouble with mine. The beer is staying the right temperature, the Co2 is tricky to figure out, but would be on any keggerator I think. Very happy with this!

46-Bottle EdgeStar Built-In Dual-Zone Wine Cooler

46-Bottle EdgeStar Built-In Dual-Zone Wine CoolerI bought this wine cooler (although not through Amazon) and am passing on my experience since I'm now looking for a replacement cooler. Purchased the cooler in Oct. 2011 from an on-line store with a 90-day labor, 1-year parts warranty. The cooler worked fine until June 2012 when it stopped cooling completely. I contacted the U.S. distributor (the cooler itself is made in China, of course) and was told I could get the unit repaired locally and that they would honor the parts warranty if it needed replacement parts. So I took the cooler to a local appliance repair shop and they inspected it, installed an in-line tap into the coolant line and recharged the refrigerant. They reported no visible leaks, but the possibility of leak in the internal tubing which they said would "not be repairable." After this repair the cooler worked fine from July 3 to August 14, 2012, and then stopped cooling altogether. Just to confirm that repairing an internal leak of coolant was no repairable, I got a repair estimate from another local appliance repair service which came back at $500+ with the recommendation to simply replace the unit. Wanting to cover all my options, I contacted Edgestar technical support and asked if it was worth crating and shipping the cooler to them from Santa Fe, NM to Austin, TX, for repair. You guessed it, they advised that these costs plus their labor to work on the cooler exceeded its value; I should replace it. Since this is the third wine cooler I have owned, and both of the other coolers are still running in other locations (after ten years for one and nine years for the other and both were made in the U.S.A), I could simply conclude that this Edgestar was a flawed product, but now there's nothing to do with the one I've got but to junk it. I won't buy another Edgestar product of course. I'll look for a replacement made in the U.S.A, which will be more expensive, but of better quality, and I'll also spring for a better warranty, which in this case, would probably prove to be cost effective.

We spent about $700 on this wine cooler. It was great until right after the 1 year warranty expired....it died, no warranty, and we have yet to find a repairman that works on Edgestar appliances...dont waste your money.

We bought the 46-Bottle EdgeStar Built-In Dual-Zone Wine Cooler about 3 years ago. It stopped cooling and the cost of repair is beyond the cost of a new unit. I can not recommend this product to anyone. I will spend more and buy a USA built unit that at least can be repaired.

Fridge looks nice and seems to be working fine. I had none of the shipping damage or DOA problems I have seen in other reviews. Seems to be holding temperature on top and bottom sections.

Funny thing about these wine coolers in this price range at least. They are always overstating the number of bottles that fit in there. Kind of like how many people can fit in a volkswagon,... anecdotal. You could stuff it up to 46 I suppose but it would be a trick to use it comfortably. You lose a couple of bottle spots with the temperature control panel which is unfortunately designed. Also, most bottles scrape on the rack above it. But still, works fine for me.

Want 46-Bottle EdgeStar Built-In Dual-Zone Wine Cooler Discount?

I was shopping for quite awhile looking for the right cooler. We had a very restrictive area and this cooler fits well. After looking at several reviews of the EdgeStar vs. others, I narrowed my choice to the EdgeStar and one other brand. Price difference of a few hundred dollars led me to the EdgeStar. Reviews were similar. I could have saved a few hundred from what I paid for the EdgeStar on other brands I researched, but reviews were horrible. I have had it for about a month now, and so far, so good.

The only negative is that the spacing of the shelves is tight and I am not sure how you really can get 46 bottles inside, but I have not really spent a lot of time trying to focus on it. Maybe after the holidays I will figure it out.

Frigidaire : DUOTRIMKIT Dual Unit Trim Kit for the Frigidaire All refrigerator / All Freezer

Frigidaire : DUOTRIMKIT Dual Unit Trim Kit for the Frigidaire All refrigerator / All FreezerWe bought this trim kit for our new Frigidaire refrigerator....and let me say this....it is sooooo cool looking! We love it! It makes the fridge look just like a built-in unit that costs much, much more! I recommend this product to anyone with this fridge/freezer set!

My husband chose this fridge and freezer. I must say I was skeptical but now I love it. It looks very expensive and everyone can't believe how little we paid. It looks like Subzero fridge.

We finally installed the trim kit. It looks great! A couple of minor flaws but nothing enough to

notice. There was a delay in installing because we had to build a surround for it first. It looks

good and it appears to be one unit instead of two. It gives the units a much more neat appearance

and built-in look. I am pleased with the results.

Bought this kit a couple of years ago and we have been very pleased. It seemed a bit pricey at the time but all the components are very well constructed using heavy duty material, not flimsy or easily bent up sheet metal. It looks great installed, which was also easy. It's nice to buy something that's well built for a change kudos to this manufacturer!

Danby DAR440BL 4.4-Cubic Foot Designer Compact All Refrigerator, BlackDanby DA

Danby DAR440BL 4.4-Cubic Foot Designer Compact All Refrigerator, Black
  • 4.4-cubic foot counter-height refrigerator with scratch-resistant work top; available in white or black
  • Energy Star rated; mechanical thermostat and automatic defrost
  • Second generation CanStor beverage dispenser; 2-1/2 wire shelves; adjustable door shelving
  • Integrated door handle; reversible door swing; smooth back design
  • Measures 20-3/4 inches wide by 21-1/2 inches deep by 33 inches high

I've found that the "freezer" section of a mini fridge is pretty much a waste of space too small to be really useful, and in constant need of defrosting. The Danby all-fridge is a great addition to my tiny kitchen. It, and a stand-alone freezer, are all I need to keep my food fresh. The veggie crisper actually works, and the can dispenser is a nice touch.

I've had the fridge for a little over a year now, without a single hitch or glitch. Still a great product!

I went with the positive reviews, ordered the fridge, and hoped that the seller had read the negative reviews that had criticized the packaging of the fridge.

Delighted to see that it was extremely well packaged with heavy crating protection. Fridge is perfect in every way, my last fridge died because of the freezer leaking, so I love the extra space. Great for white wine/beer/and it fits beautifully into the basement alcove. I picked black and honestly really glad I did, because you can't even see it in the alcove. It runs quietly (I even opened the fridge several times because it was so quiet I wanted to make sure it was running!) so both thumbs up on this fridge.

Protective eye wear (optional as is being a Darwin award winner)

Drill

Weatherproof metal tape to seal exposed insulation

In my hotel room during a recent vacation I was very pleased to see this little refrigerator by Danby. At first it didn't look too special; but I was wrong. It worked very well, keeping my refrigerated items cold without freezing them. Moreover, the adjustable shelves came in handy after I made a couple of trips to a local supermarket; I needed to adjust the shelves to fit everything in. I can't really comment about the adjustable door because of course hotel management probably wouldn't have appreciated me changing the door on them; but I assume you can adjust the door fairly easily. The interior light worked fine.

The shelves weren't quite as deep as I would have liked them to be, but then again it comes with adjustable shelves. I could also put things like foot long sandwiches in at 45 degree angles; that way even a large item can fit inside without a problem.

I would recommend this small refrigerator for offices, college students or anyone who wants a smaller sized refrigerator that does a good job of keeping food cold.

HAIER HNSE032 3.2 CUBIC-FT REFRIGERATOR/FREEZER (WHITE)

HAIER HNSE032 3.2 CUBIC-FT REFRIGERATOR/FREEZERLove the overall product, just hate that the plastic shelf for the gallon door bin broke within first week of purchase. It got stuck and when we opened door, it broke off. It's $17+ to buy replacement part, so we just don't use bottom half of door. Really like the top half of door that holds 8 drink cans! Maybe they should have done away with bottom shelf and made entire door can holder. We got it on sale for a little over $100 at Walmart last year, so it's definitely worth that price. I'm not sure I'd pay much more than that though.

SquareTrade 3-Year Appliance Protection Plan ($350-400)

SquareTrade 3-Year Appliance Protection PlanSquareTrade sent a tech out to examine a problem with my scanner/printer. He told me to use different paper and left. Now I have a similar problem, and they say I can't have a tech come because my last "repair" exceeded what they are willing to pay apparently the tech charged $140 for his diagnosis. When I complained, they gave me the service center version of "too bad" and sent me on my way.

This means that according to SquareTrade, any tech can come and charge pretty much anything, and that charge will unquestioningly be deducted from their budget for your item. If they hire bad techs, you get penalized for it; if the problem recurs, well... tough.

If you decide to purchase this, know at least that the value of the warrantee is potentially very limited it might be worth a replacement machine or a timely repair, but it might also be worth no more than one unproductive tech visit.

I bought this service for the Omega vert 350 HD juicer. It is a very good price for a product that runs $350-$400. I recently had to use it to replace the filter and it was really easy to use, the customer service and response time was very good. I would strongly recommend this service for anybody buying anything that is very expensive.

EdgeStar Built-In 30 Bottle Wine Cooler

EdgeStar Built-In 30 Bottle Wine CoolerThe product seems to be well made and looks just like the photos: the width demissions were off by 1/4 of an inch at the bottom of the cooler, requiring me to recut the opening.

Have had this unit installed for about a month now. Happy with it so far. I had noticed before I purchased that some reviewers said the compressor was noisy. I don't think it's very loud at all. I guess it depends on what you think is loud. My wife and I hardly ever notice when it's running.

One thing I'll point out is that it would be very hard to fit the advertised number of bottles in this unit unless all the bottles were on the small side. But I think all vendors stretch their capacity numbers in their ads. Just be informed.

Whirlpool 482493 Defrost Timer for Refrigerator

Whirlpool 482493 Defrost Timer for RefrigeratorReceived a knock-off of the Whirlpool defrost timer kit #482493 . No instructions, no hardware, and mounting holes too small. Jumper was already configured to pin #1 (which was correct for my model after an internet search for the instructions) but I had to drill the holes to the proper size to fit the plastic pins in the frig. Working for now but a real pain. The genuine Whirlpool FSP replacement kit includes mounting hardware and installation instructions.

Worked as described. Very easy to install. Just unplug the old one and plug in this new part. A piece of cake to put it in.

Whirlpool 4378411RB In-Line Refrigerator Ice and Water Filter

Whirlpool 4378411RB In-Line Refrigerator Ice and Water FilterHaving moved recently, we were not happy to note the odd taste of the city water in our area. As our Kenmore refrigerator is the type that dispenses ice and water, we felt that installing an inline filter was a good idea. This filter does a great job of eliminating the strong chlorinated flavor that was in our water. In fact, the difference is so obvious, even our kids commented.

My husband knows his way around a tool box so the installation of this filter was fairly routine for him. However, those who are intimidated by the idea of making burr free cuts in a water line may want to look at a different filtering solution. The filter is fairly small and easily tucks away out of sight behind the appliance without forcing the unit further out into the room.

If you happen to click on additional information you will find it says "fits any standard 1/4-inch water line"...not quite so. If you are replacing an existing filter which has the standard 1/4" NPT fittings then this filter will NOT work. Unfortunately Amazon doesn't have pictures of the end of the filter which would greatly help in preventing ordering this filter incorrectly. So now I'm stuck with paying $6 to return it. I think it's time to go to HD or Lowes where I can see it before I buy it.

Avanti Thermo Electronic Cold and Room Temperature Water Dispenser, Countertop

Avanti Thermo Electronic Cold and Room Temperature Water Dispenser, Countertop
  • Ideal for use in small offices, homes, waiting rooms, and more
  • Convenient and lightweight countertop design
  • Holds three- and five-gallon bottles
  • Serves cold and room-temerature water
  • Available in white

This water dispenser has a very nice concept. I liked that it uses any type of refillable bottle. Unfortunately for me after having it a month it never shut off and no longer cooled the water.

I contacted Avanti since it is under warranty and was told to ship it back and they would send me out a new one. Only problem was that I had to cover the shipping over and back and if I wanted to make sure it actually got there, needed to also pay for insurance and tracking. This would have cost me nearly as much as the unit itself and after reading many reviews with negative outcomes even after replacement I didn't feel it was worth the cost. I guess I'll just continue to look for one that actually will work.

1st of all: do NOT believe the instruction booklet when it says not to wash out the unit before use! (They claim it comes ready for use from the factory.) It gave a really "off" flavor to the water till I rinsed out the unit thoroughly with baking soda dissolved in water. DO believe the people who say it takes a long time for water to get cold--it really does, especially the first time you use it. That said, we really like this unit now. It fits nicely on the counter, is easy to use, and provides our family of two with enough cold water.

Myself and a co-worker both purchased this unit from Amazon for infrequent usage. Both units leaked within 2 months, and 1 unit failed to cool the water after 2 weeks. Avanti would not honor the product's warranty because it was not purchased from them. I know its a low cost and everything, but spilling liters of water all over your desk and laser printer is not really worth the price in hindsight.

Only cool but not ice cold, but it was better than tap water. It also made a loud noise when operating and would often do weird things that make it seem as if it is faulty. It would after a long time resume and again give cool water but never ice cold.Almost to the day, one year after purchase it died.I should have known. Whirlpool 61005323 Condenser Fan Motor for Refrigerator

Whirlpool 61005323 Condenser Fan Motor for RefrigeratorOur KitchenAid 'fridge/freezer was making a REALLY loud and obnoxious noise, so I pulled off the grill and looked to see if I could figure out what was wrong. By turning on and off the power, I could see and hear that a fan was making the noise. I Googled the manual (no longer had it) and looked up the part needed. Arrived in 2 days and took about 5 minutes to replace; I figure I saved about $200 for a service call. Awesome!

I am a stay-at-home Mom who is pretty handy. When our refrigerator was hot to the touch between the doors, I googled the problem and it directed me that the condenser fan could be the problem. Drip Pro Hose End Mechanical Timer - 5 - 120 Minutes 3/4" FHT Inlet x 3/4" MHT Outlet

Drip Pro Hose End Mechanical Timer - 5 - 120 Minutes 3/4' FHT Inlet x 3/4' MHT OutletI purchased two of these mechanical timers for the 2011 gardening season and they have both worked out just fine. The Drip Pro's don't feel cheap like the Orbit units found in Lowe's. The timer knob has a fairly substantial feeling to it when you adjust the watering time. It's also got a "on-manual" setting on the knob. My units don't leak when in the "Off" position.

I forgot them outside last winter where they hung from my faucets unprotected from the cold I live in Central California where we get several nights of freezing temperatures during the winter each year The units worked just fine when I started using them this spring even though they were subjected to sub-freezing weather. This year they get stored in the garage!

I got the timers for my drip gardening system as well as "hose & low sprinkler" irrigation on a few trees. Using the timer, I no longer realize that I've left the water running for 2 days on a tree (!) so between the Drip Pro and the timer on my Smartphone, the watering activities in my backyard seem to be under control.

I am purchasing a 3rd Drip Pro today for yet another faucet.

Unbelievably she could not recommend a single repair shop in Arizona that worked on Avanti's. I called several shops and they all said the Avanti's are sealed and I was looking at about a $900.00 repair (for a cooler I paid $650 for) and a minimum of six weeks until completion. Most fridges are repairable the smaller Avanti's come as a SINGLE UNIT and cannot be opened up and repaired. I would avoid these folks if at all possible -buy someone else.

After 4 months my Avanti wine cooler stopped working. All the refrigerant leaked out. I wanted to return it to the dealer, but they wanted nothing to do with any return. Avanti did send a service person to fix it under warranty, but he was not hopeful that parts would arrive anytime soon and told me to be prepared to wait for awhile. Keep your money and look at other brands.

This item is a piece of crap...broke in 2 months somehow and customer service was a horrible experience to work with. They fought me on replacing it and said it would be a couple weeks before they were able to get anyone out to me to help. DO NOT BUY!

I read a ton of reviews on wine fridges as they all seem to be mixed. Some people seem to just get a lemon and it breaks...I had this for a couple of weeks now and it works fine. Look at it unpacked before shipment is completed though as mine had a pretty dented back corner that I didn't notice till a couple days later. It was obviously bumped into, and there were no signs on the packaging that it had taken a spill, but somewhere it had. If I ever get another fridge I will most likely buy one in person and make sure it is put in my truck with now bumps or bruises.

Liebherr CS2062 36 19.6 cu. ft. Counter-Depth French Door Refrigerator

Liebherr CS2062 36 19.6 cu. ft. Counter-Depth French Door RefrigeratorI purchased this refrig as a replacement for a 30+ year old Sub-Zero that finally fizzled out. From the beginning I had problems with temp control in the refrig section. Except for the top shelf, everything freezes. Milk, water, eggs, produce. I reset the temp to 44F but everything still freezes.

I tried to return the refrig to the seller but they refused to take it back because I did not have the original packing. So far I have been unsuccessful in getting the manufacturer to service the unit.

I was trying to save a bit of money, but sincerely regret that I did not buy a new Sub-Zero instead of this very poor product.

We purchased a Liebherr CS1301 a few years back and had nothing but problems.

The finish, or lack thereof is almost impossible to keep clean. We contacted Liebherr service and were told the fridge only had a partial factory finish and we should use the 2 oz bottle supplied to do the finial finish. Talk about insane for a premium priced product.

We have tried no fewer than a dozen different cleaners and nothing works.

The freezer started acting up, the alarm would sound showing temp dropping. After awhile I contacted Liebherr. I was told there is an issue with the sensor whereby it freezes. This causes the fridge to bypass the thermostat.

Ok, so where is the customer notification or recall to fix this issue?

I've always purchased German products whenever possible, this brand is a total disappointment.

If I ever wanted my wife to leave me, all I would have to do is buy another Liebherr product.

We bought this refrigerator about 6 years ago and love it.

In the beginning there was an issue with the ice maker -

an upgrade by the factory, but we never noticed anything

wrong with the original ice maker.

As far as cleaning the doors is concerned, I read a review

here complaining about having to finish the doors himself

and that the factory only supplied a 2oz bottle of finish

solution. That was a wrong statement. The doors are finished

100% at the factory BUT they are Stainless Steel which

shows every fingerprint and more. The 2 oz bottle was a

"sample" of a cleaner the factory recommends which is hard

to find. I use "Zip" commercial stainless steel spray cleaner

and clean cloths. Works fine absolutely no problem.

We like this brand so well, and the style, that we have put

the 24" (non ice maker) in our beach house.

These units are well designed, sleek with an European flair,

and keep perishables perfect. I love that we can control the

temp "to the degree"!

Ok It's hard to vacuum the air filter because you have to get on

your knees and unscrew several screws that hold the decorative

lower air panel in place. Since it is "German" I would have

thought that they would have used magnets down there, so the

R&R of the panel would be "easy". But really, that is the only

negative I can think of. We love this machine!

By the way, a neighbor of ours has one now (5 years) and they

love theirs too. Everybody who looks at ours thinks it is an

"build-in" refrigerator. It is not! It is free standing, but

the design looks like a built-in.

We wanted the look of a built in but didn't want the additional cost, this is basically the only company who is filling that particular niche. Really pleased with the appearance and quality and feel it was worth spending a little more money in the long run. If you need a lot of freezer space, it is pretty small, but if not, the two drawer system is convenient and

Keeps things really organized. We were a little apprehensive about ordering an appliance online, but it was probably one of the easiest delivery experiences we have had. The unit is shipped to a local delivery company and they contact you to set up a time window, exactly as you would if you bought it locally. Overall, nothing but a positive experience all around.

Cuisinart DGB-650BC Grind-and-Brew Thermal 10-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker, Brushed Metal

Cuisinart DGB-650BC Grind-and-Brew Thermal 10-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker, Brushed MetalI love the new look! We had the older version for about 6 years. This new one is sleeker and much easier to clean and keep clean (the inside where the grinder sits gets cakey due to condensation). I got it for $149, used Amazon Prime, and had it in a few days! I love it. If you're thinking of getting this grind and brew with stainless carafe, it is nice. Some parts will have to be replaced over the years like the older version, but the taste of the freshly ground coffee every day is worth it. I never pre-heat the carafe like the directions say because that defeats the purpose of the timer. I've never had an issue with the coffee temperature, it's always hot! I also recommend hand-washing over dishwasher. The carbon filters are similar to Brita and can be found for cheap at Kohl's. One other note is it only makes 10 cups as opposed to the typical 12 cups. This is fine for me because it's just me and my husband, but if you need to make a ton of coffee regularly, this may not be a good choice. Overall, I love it and I'm glad I traded up!

We had a DGB-600BC and used it daily for about 4 years. The grinder assembly finally seized and we could no longer remove it. We had been looking around for a new coffee maker, anyway, so we went ahead and bought this one (DGB-650BC) at a local store.

We've been using it for a couple weeks now and it makes a fine cup of coffee, just like the last one did. I noticed right away, that a few things that turned out to be issues with the last model had been fixed or improved upon with this one.

1) The grinder compartment is much better separated from the water reservoir and also designed better for all the grounds to go into the filter basket. The older model always left a bit of a mess, both in the grinder compartment and on the little shelf that separated the filter basket from the coffee pot, and around the burner plate. I haven't seen any of that mess with this model. I can't tell you how happy that makes me.

2) The little shelf I spoke about in #1 is now gone. That's a plus. Since this maker is designed better, it isn't needed anyway. Also, this shelf caused build up around the door latch making it hard to shut after a very short time. I'm glad it's gone.

3) The filter basket door mechanism is far better designed. The old model I had to slam shut, sometimes repeatedly, before it would stay shut. This one has a much better and more sturdy hinge mechanism and latch.

4) New to this model (the old one didn't have this) is a window on the side so you can see how much water you're pouring in. It's clearly marked and has a red floating ball to make it easy to see. I really like this feature.

The grinder seem a little louder than the old one, but I've never met a coffee grinder that wasn't loud and it's only for a very short time. I love having freshly ground coffee first thing in the morning.

As far as cleanup goes for the grinding assembly and filter basket, it only takes a minute or two. Aside from the coffee pot itself, there are 5 pieces to clean and it really is quick and easy to empty the filter basket and rinse the pieces.

In short, this is fine coffee maker, much improved from the DGB-600BC, and I am happy we upgraded to it.

Buy Cuisinart DGB-650BC Grind-and-Brew Thermal 10-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker, Brushed Metal Now

Let me start by admitting that I am a novice when it comes to drinking coffee, much less owning coffee machines. This is the first coffee machine I've ever bought, but I've been very happy with it thus far. If you purchase it, definitely read the directions as there are a couple of small points they bring out, that you wouldn't otherwise know. (For instance, when you place the goldtone coffee filter in, the handle which can rest in either direction, must face outwards.) I just mention this, since I am usually one to NOT read directions, and I'm sure most others who have owned coffe machines wouldn't either, but it seems valuable in this particular case.

The main reason I went with this unit, was Cuisineart had the only ones in Bed Bath & Beyond which can be programmed to grind then brew. I leave it on my desk at work, and have it programmed to grind/brew right before I arrive in the morning. And it's awesome. Only used it several times so far, but no complaints. Cleaning is relatively easy but (like any other coffee brewer/grinder I assume) you have to clean it every day. Not a big deal though, so far I've just been taking the grinder and filter parts out, and rinsing them out. Not sure how important it is to use soap...

The most valuable thing I can tell you, that you won't read on the box, is that the thermal caraffe REALLY DOES work great. I don't pre-heat the caraffe, since I have it sitting out from the night before. I have mine programmed to start brewing at 8:30am. And believe it or not, despite the fact that there is no heater that runs after it's done brewing... the coffee stays HOT for a long time. It stays piping hot for several hours, and even at 2:30pm, it is still drinkably warm. I never expected it to stay that warm for 6 hours, far exceeded my expecations.

Easy to program, but you have to remember to press the Program button each night before. Although, that's not really a big deal since you have to add water and all the other stuff anyway. It's a safety feature really.

Grinder noise isn't super loud, and it only runs for 60 seconds so who cares. Mine is sitting on my desk in my cube, but I program it to run before most people arrive in the office so it's not a problem.

Very short 2ft. power cord with the unit, which will be great for kitchen countertops where you can put it by an outlet, otherwise you might need an extension cord.

Can't speak about reliability. Hopefully they fixed some of the issues people had with this unit's predecessor. Will revise my review later if I have issues.

I've rated it 5 stars, for $129 I feel that I got what I expected and paid for, and really don't have any complaints. I also haven't seen ANYTHING in the market that does what this does, in the same price range. Is there not a demand for coffee grinder/brewers? I mean, why wouldn't you want to have something that you can program to do both before you even wake up? For me, there was no other choice.

Cuisinart has a more expensive model than this one, but it was $70 more and the only feature that really seemed to be valuable was it's "burr grinder" which is supposedly better. But it didn't seem like that was worth $70 more to me, so I thought this was the best value.

I ordered this coffee maker knowing that Cuisinart produces very fine products but I have to say I am not real happy with this particular product. The grinder grinds the beans VERY coarse which doesn't make a very strong cup of coffee so I'm back to grinding my coffee with my burr grinder. The setting for 1-4 cups does not make the water warmer as advertised (it comes out luke warm) so I just don't push that button when making a small pot of coffee. I do find that when brewing a full pot it does keep the coffee hot for quite a while. I think, if I order another Cuisinart coffeemaker in the future, that I will pay a little more and get the coffeemaker with the burr grinder and with a hot-plate instead of the thermal carafe.

For those who want grind and brew features this is the best product for the money. There are the higher priced models but some of us have to stay on a budget. Compared to the earlier version, I've had 3 of the earlier ones; they do tend to break down after 2 years. This model has significant improvements. The best is that it is so much easier to clean the grinding area. The earlier model was next to impossible, this more open design makes it possible to actually get those beans that get into the grinding area out.

In reading the other reviews I did have a few concerns.

1. The sediment from the filter: Well that's the reality of permanent filters. So it's convenience of not having to get those paper things out and over to the trash. If that detail is annoying use paper. Even the high priced machines have that issue and Cuisnart clearly informs you of this issue with a notice before unpacking the product.

2. Noise: The review that goes on about how noisy this machine is. Gad face reality, these are coffee beans getting ground up in somewhat large area in an enclosed area without a lot of sound insulation. It is going to get loud. No louder than a regular coffee grinder and a lot quieter than a garbage disposal. To avoid having the noise in the morning I do the unthinkable, grind the beans the evening before. OK, I'm not a purist.

3. Coffee not the right temp: Face reality, the carafe is going to be the same temp as the room it's sitting in. So it like most people who turn down there temp in their house at night to let's say even 68 degrees at night or even 70, the the physics say the carafe temp is going to be 70. Now, brew coffee and when it gets into the insulated carafe the temp is going to average out. Since the insulated model doesn't have a warming plate, you're may want to take into consideration that you're brewing into a room temp carafe and the coffee temp is going to cool down. Cuisinart clearly informs you that simply warming up the carafe with hot water before brewing takes care of this issue. I easily deal with this when the machine starts brewing you have a good 30-45 seconds before the first drop comes out and the machine does have a function to keep coffee from coming out unless the carafe is properly placed. That gives plenty of time to run some hot water into it, get the inside temp up and the result is coffee at the perfect temp. Now I do have to say that it is very easy for me because I have one of those instant hot water faucets at the sink so I don't have to wait for the hot water to start flowing.

There have been some very good user oriented changes to this model. It's not perfect, but for the money it's the best you're going to find on the market. Take the critics in these reviews with a grain of salt.

Of course one of the reasons I am really, really happy with this machine is that I ran into it when Amazon had it on sale for $110 with a $30 rebate from Cuisinart. My final cost was $85!! I called customer service to see how the rebate would work. They told me a mail-in coupon would come with the product. When the product arrived ( 3 days later, and I used the free standard shipping during the holiday period) there was no rebate coupon. I called customer service and their response was "we'll just add a $30 credit" to your account. I was expecting getting a run around anticipating that they would put the problem off on Cuisinart. But no, Amazon steps up to plate, resolves the problem in less than 1 minute and the credit appeared on my credit card the next day. Now that is customer service!!

My hats off to Amazon to putting the customer first. Beyond the coffee maker at $85 final cost with free shipping, I have to say that Amazon has matured into a very customer focused retailer. They have moved beyond good prices and the convenience of shopping at home; they are real competition to the brick & moter stores. Amazon's focus on the customer actually gives the retail experience a lot of us remember in the "old department store" days.

I have never taken the time to write a product review, but I do enjoy having them available to get unbiased reviews and input. This time I felt it was only fair to take the time to put a realistic perspective to some of the negative reviews while at the same time expressing my positive experience with Amazon. For me Amazon has primarily been a convenience factor, now I shop with them because of their dependability and customer service focus. Price is not the driver for me anymore. I've just learned that if I really want customer service, the most reliable and predictable place to shop is Amazon!!
