Swift Green Filters SGF-G1 Refrigerator Water Filter

Swift Green Filters SGF-G1 Refrigerator Water FilterI gave this puppy a shot to replace the OEM GE filter. This turned out to be an OMG filter, as it failed to filter the heavy chlorine dose in the water which the local municipality dumped in after the wind storm 6/29/2012. I overnighted a GE OEM and water is clean as a whistle. The Swift filter might be fine now (i.e. maybe it was just a heavy chlorine dump by WSSC), but I am over it for $5 difference every 6 months. Others seem pleased so it may be just me. I was always suspicious when reading about the faster water flow when compared to GE OEM. It does come out faster with Swift (no pun intended).

I bought this to use in lieu of the MWF GE SmartWater filters that seem to have gone up 35% in price since I bought my refrigerator 6 years ago. Usually I can find a good deal or an annual GE rebate offer to get SmartWater filters, but not in the past few months when I knew my filter would need replacement. This fits perfectly. You have to push it up with a little more force, and then turn it. I didn't soak it underwater for 15 minutes as directed I just spent about 1 minute filling it up with water and set it on the counter, came back about 5 minutes later and topped it off, then came back a couple minutes later and installed it. No problems and no air at all.

Two things on the packaging are questionnable.

1) There is no mention of the filter meeting Standard 53, however the filtration of the items covered under that standard are given (with percentage of filtration) on the side of the box. I feel confident in the product since it does actually list the filtration levels for those items, but it does create doubt. (minus 1/2 star)

2) The box specifically says "Not for sale in California" yet Amazon obviously had no problem selling it to me and at least one other reviewer here is in California. I can't figure out what the issue is there...perhaps there is some California certification that is doesn't meet? I don't know...and don't really care, but it is an interesting fact.

All in all, I find it a good product and will write a follow-up review should I notice any problems. Minus 1-star for lack of documentation overall and lack of Standard 53 actually being noted anywhere on the packaging or documentation with the product.

Now if only the 2-pack or 3-pack would ever come in stock so I could get a more significant discount!

It has been about a month since we received and installed our filter. Installation was not difficult. The supplied O-ring is a little thin, manufacturer could improve on this area, other than that the filter is of good quality. Water flow did increase when we installed and had a small amount of water leak until O-ring sealed, maybe 2-3 tablespoons of water.

The water hole needs slight enlargement to fit my GE Profile. I put a scissor inside the hole and turned several round to peel off a tiny layer of plastics. And it worked. It's a less expensive alternative to the GE parts.

I ordered the Swift Green filter for my GE side by side. I installed it. Very easy. Did not leak. The water tastes great. It traps what the GE does and costs less. My order was lost in shipment but I called the supplier and it was taken care of and it and were friendly about it. I would recommend this filter for those who think the GE MWF filter is overpriced.

Danby DWC2727BLS 5.0 Cu Ft 54-Bottle Silhouette Wine Cellar - Black/Stainless

Danby DWC2727BLS 5.0 Cu Ft 54-Bottle Silhouette Wine Cellar - Black/Stainless
  • 54 bottle capacity
  • Built-in or freestanding application
  • Dual temperature zones for red and white storage
  • Temperature range of 4C ~ 18C (39F~64F) per compartment
  • Precise digital thermostat with LED display

I enjoyed this cooler for about a year even though it did struggle to maintain temperatures. Then it finally quit maintaining temperatures all together. I contacted Danby and they sent out an 'in home service' technician. It was determined it needed a new control card. To make a long story short, 6 months, 3 control cards and a transformer later, I was issued a refund in the form of a gift card for the big box store in which I made the purchase. I had to ask for the refund to stop the insanity of repeated attempts of replacing a card 3 times and expecting a different result. Danby customer service is horrible. Call their service number and it is no less than a 30 min on hold wait to speak to someone. Forget about a returned call. I was told they would get back with me only to never get the return call. After a little research, I found that the temperature control issues is a chronic problem among several of their models.

We purchased the Dancy 54 Bottle Wine Cooler in stainless steel and within 4 months of operation, the unit ceased to cool and one side overheated.

As Danby claims to have a one year warranty, we called Danby and found that since we had purchased the cooler at the beginning of our remodel and did not install the unit until the renovation was complete, the warranty would not be honored as we were a mere two weeks past our warranty expiration date.

We let Danby know that the unit had only been in use for under four months, whereupon we asked if Danby would not honor the warranty, would they at least sell us another unit at cost, at which point Danby stated that they would not. Too bad, so sad, you'll just have to fork up another $900.00 for another unit, sucker.

PLEASE NOTE that you cannot get Danby wine or beverage coolers serviced, states Danby customer service, as they are "contained units" which means the entire unit has to be replaced under warranty, not just the cooling elements. If it breaks during the first year, they will OSTENSIBLY send you a new unit. But who knows if they will even honor their one year warranty, based upon their reluctance to handle the simplest of customer service issues with us. It took days to get to a representative and even then they completely refused to stand behind their product.

After several tries with Danby customer service to no avail, we contacted the President of Danby, whom we were sure would make this situation right but were completely ignored. I'll bet he gets a lot of calls and mail about this very thing. Do yourself a favor and save on shipping put $900 IN A PILE AND BURN IT rather than buy any Danby product. Better yet, buy another brand, as we did. Our new cooler works just fine and it can be repaired if it breaks, as it is 21st century technology. Our new unit was cheaper, too, and is better looking.

Come on! It's a little fridge, not rocket science, and they can't get a $900 wine cooler to work for more than four months without breaking down? I'd be interested to hear from any other Danby wine cooler purchasers as I have a suspicion that these units are manufactured to meet planned obsolescence of approximately one year as a means of bilking the consumer.

Yes, you heard me, Danby, if you read these reviews: Your customer service reps were too practiced in their denial of warranty coverage for us to believe that this is an uncommon occurrence. We'd also like to hear from you, Danby, since we've not received a reply to any of our communications for several months now.

CAVEAT EMPTOR!

Two weeks after purchasing this product it stopped holding temperature. I called Danby and they sent a tech out 4 times. After each time the cooler would work for a couple of days and fail again. Their customer service is terrible at best. Please do yourself a favor and don't purchase this wine cooler.

I bought this unit a couple of years ago and temperature started going out of whack a few weeks ago.

From a maintenance standpoint, it was quite nice. I vacuumed the front and back every few months and it seemed to do the trick in terms of keeping the temperature balanced.

However, a few weeks ago, the fridge started experience high heat on the red wine side and substantial drops in temperature on the whites side.

I tried vacuuming the front and back again.

I tried unloading the unit completely and letting it rest for 24 hours (storing bottles in our regular fridge) so the inside temperatures could even out.

I tried loading only a few bottles in.

I then tried to call Danby's customer support line. I tried in the morning; I tried in the middle of the day; I tried late in the day.

I tried at the beginning of the week; I tried on a Wednesday; I tried at the end of the week.

I tried their English language menu; I tried their French language menu.

... and every time I ended up getting recorded messages and menus that led me to learn that the support line was closed.

I tried calling the spare parts department and got someone but since they are not part of Danby (it's outsourced), they weren't sure of what part I should replace in my unit. They also tried to get Danby support on the line but failed.

So if you buy this unit (and it's a great unit when it works), be aware that it may work only for a limited amount of time and that you may not be able to get ANY support on it.

I purchased this unit and 26 months later is quit working. A part (selenoid valve assembly) stopped working. This is a very expensive and involved repair that makes replacement a better option. I spoke to Danby, they were familiar with the problem, but basically told me too bad.

SquareTrade 4-Year Appliance Protection Plan ($2000-2500)

SquareTrade 4-Year Appliance Protection PlanAfter seeing the square trade warranty offered on ebay ( found it on amazon after 'search' because amazon didn't offer it at checkout ?) I read the SquareTrade contract details. Seems like the '4 year' warranty is only an additional 2 years beyond the OEM 2 year warranty. I guess a little bit of hype and hyperbole makes for a good sales pitch. All in all tho, aside from egregious marketing spiel, 289.00 to extend the warranty on a $2200.00 appliance is not REALLY all that terrible, esp considering most products will fail 5-10 days AFTER OEM warranty runs out lol. Sure wish they would be a little more upfront about the fact they are just offering an 'extended warranty' tho.

Compact Freezer Refrigerator with Lock - Stainless Steel

Compact Freezer Refrigerator with Lock - Stainless Steel
  • Easily converts from 0° compact freezer to a refrigerator
  • Comes complete with lock and two keys; Full range thermostatic temperature control
  • True stainless steel door with black cabinet; Reversible door
  • External Dimensions: 19 3/8 x 18 9/16 x 17 3/4
  • Internal Dimensions: 13.5" H x 14" W x 13" D

The EdgeStar has much to boast of: it is lightweight, easy to carry and move, roomy, attractive, and versatile as both a refrigerator and (marginally) as a freezer. Setup is simple, and the price is excellent. Strongly tainting this appliance however, is a thermostat dial which is either incompetently designed, incompetently calibrated, or both

Before continuing, let's not fail to note the advertised description for this product: "Just turn the thermostat to select the appropriate temperature for your application!"

Falling with equal snugness on the Things That Make You Go Duh list is the instruction manual telling us that "The knob has markings to indicate the relative temperature settings, but in general, turning the knob counter-clockwise corresponds to colder temperatures."

So if we turn the dial one way, it gets colder. Turn it the other way it gets warmer. We can handle that. The markings on the dial bear witness to and confirm this elegant conception of appliance design:

regrigeration------> MIN......OFF.....MAX

freezing-----------> MIN......||......MAX

Interesting then, that in practice there is *no* temperature change in the freezer when dialed to "MIN", or dialed to "MAX". I measure both at a steady 20 degrees.

With some playing, one discovers that colder temperatures are achieved, erratically, within the petite 1.5 millimeter space between the two vertical lines separating "Min" and "Max".

Moving counter clockwise per instructions along the dial after the arrow marked "Freezer", the temperatures I normally get are, in order:

20 (when dialed to "Min")

15 (when dialed to the left vertical line)

4 or 12 degrees (when between the two vertical lines)

10 (when dialed to the right vertical line)

20 (when dialed to "Max).

Perhaps the advertised 0 degree capability is buried someplace within the 1.5 mm space between the two vertical lines, but after several days of moving the dial minutely to the left or right, I'm unable to find it.

Additionally, after reaching the coldest discernable temperature of 4 degrees once, it took me 2 days to find it again while continuing my hunt for the elusive advertised 0 degrees.

This is especially frustrating since it takes about half a day or more for a temperature change to be reached within the freezer after moving the thermostat dial -and when you move it, you don't know for certain if you're making it colder or warmer.

Which is to say, this isn't a particular fast appliance: The manual recommends not introducing frozen food to the freezer until it's been turned to the coldest setting (wherever that is) for at least 2 hours after turning it on. That seems wildly optimistic to me. In practice, it takes roughly 5 hours to freeze undersized 1" ice cubes from power-up using the tray bundled with this freezer.

To its credit, the EchoStar is fine as a refrigerator, and fine as a freezer as long as you aren't picky about hitting the the normally recommended 0 degrees for frozen foods.

But sorry, it should not require several days to find the coldest temperature on a device by nudging a dial back and forth within a space of a milimeter. And oddly enough, even without the instruction booklet telling me to do so, I fully expect "Max" to be colder than "Min", and not be actually located at some microscopicly ambiguous point between the two.

"Just turn the thermostat to select the appropriate temperature for your application!"

Yeah. Duh.

I was concerned when I ordered this product based on other feedback. I let the freezer sit for a couple hours after unpacking. I turned it on and set to max freeze and placed an icecube tray inside. It took 75 minutes for the water to freeze. We took it camping with us and after unplugging camper it took six hours for the ice cubes to melt.

Good points-

1) Small enough to carry up the stairs without help

2) Quieter than expected

3) Unlike a chest freezer, this one lets you have easy access to the contents

4) Low cost for electricity

Bad points

1) This is not for you if you're looking for something big enough to store a deer or other large item. For me, it's just the right size.

Just got this little beauty around 5:00pm today and plugged it in shortly after with freezer temp set to max and putting in a new Freezer thermometer. I read the post about defective temp control, but saw that others had 'no problem' so I played dumb and just cranked it up. Just as well, as it is now 7:30pm and I heard the freezer pump go off. I looked in the door and the thermometer was at rock bottom minus 20 degrees. Wow am I happy. My main refrigerator freezer is set well enough to keep frozen foods at 0 degrees and that's what I want this little model to do also. I turned the thermostatic control back a quarter turn to rest it between max and min on the freezer side. I'm thinking that it will now level out at zero.

How it works was my first concern, so now that that is settled I can only also add what others have said: It looks great!

It looks beautifully made and I won't be surprised to have this unit for many years to come. I got it to hold frozen foods I take out of my main refrigerator while I am thawing out my main refrigerator. I'll bet I start cheating now and start using this little gem to horde my favorite Ice Creams or stock up on meats or who knows what. A very good purchase at a very good price. I would highly recommend to a friend.

I spent a lot of time trying to figure out which one of the compact Freezers to buy..... none of the review sections were convincing. I went with the Edgestar because of the option of being a freezer OR a refrigerator.

It does come double boxed, mine had no marks on it. Cut the straps, take out the foam corners remove the first box. Then LIFT the second box right off the unit (it has not fixed bottom) it couldn't easier. I then put the thermostat on max and 45 minutes later my new analog Taylor refrigerator/freezer non-calibrated thermometer said -15 degrees. It never got colder on THAT thermometer (rightly or wrongly). For the reviews where some of these units never worked....... it crossed my mind, before I noted the bottom of the box design, to tip the box over and get the unit out that way until I remember being told years and years ago(rightly or wrongly) that if the compressor/gas goes "upside down" it is then ruined....... So maybe that is why some of these units aren't working out of the box?

So far so very good.

SquareTrade 3-Year Appliance Protection Plan ($350-400)

SquareTrade 3-Year Appliance Protection PlanSquareTrade sent a tech out to examine a problem with my scanner/printer. He told me to use different paper and left. Now I have a similar problem, and they say I can't have a tech come because my last "repair" exceeded what they are willing to pay apparently the tech charged $140 for his diagnosis. When I complained, they gave me the service center version of "too bad" and sent me on my way.

This means that according to SquareTrade, any tech can come and charge pretty much anything, and that charge will unquestioningly be deducted from their budget for your item. If they hire bad techs, you get penalized for it; if the problem recurs, well... tough.

If you decide to purchase this, know at least that the value of the warrantee is potentially very limited it might be worth a replacement machine or a timely repair, but it might also be worth no more than one unproductive tech visit.

I bought this service for the Omega vert 350 HD juicer. It is a very good price for a product that runs $350-$400. I recently had to use it to replace the filter and it was really easy to use, the customer service and response time was very good. I would strongly recommend this service for anybody buying anything that is very expensive.

12 Bottle Wine Cooler

12 Bottle Wine CoolerThis item is listed all over the internet as a dual zone wine cooler but it is not. We have one (which we ordered from another site unbeatablesale.com and which arrived previously opened and damaged, but that's another story). But, not only did we receive a product with a cracked door, it isn't even dual zone which is the entire reason we purchased it. Nowhere in the instruction manual is it described as dual zone and there is only one temperature control. Don't waste your money on this product. Attempts to contact the manufacturer have been ignored. I totally regret my purchase.
