I originally purchased this refrigerator from Wal-Mart nearly a year ago for college. I got it for under $70 and really liked it a lot. Enough space to store basics including half gallon milk, meat, sodas and sports drinks and other things as well. Unfortunately with in the last few weeks the refrigerator began making popping sounds and now, just a few months after 1 year owning this refrigerator, the unit will no longer cool.

I can't complain as the unit worked great when it was functioning and I purchased an extended warranty and was able to get reimbursed for my failed unit. The important thing to take away is that these fridges are prone to and have an excessive failure rates. If you purchase this refrigerator I would suggest getting an extended warranty, you may very well end up having to make a claim before you think you will.

Its works good if indoors and keeps drinks cool/cold. It requires an ambient room temperature of 80 degrees or less to operate. Some people have reported the unit failing after a short time but its worked good so far.

Bought one of these at Walmart for $80 to use as a beer fridge. As others have experienced, mine worked fine for about a year. I tried to be upset about that, but in that year I likely spent 20 times more on the beer itself than what I paid for the fridge.

I consider that a job well done, Mini Fridge. You gave a year of your life indeed, your very life itself to save and protect my beer. I don't take that sacrifice lightly. Rather, I honor you, Mini Fridge. Godspeed.

Good unit for about six months.. but now it does not keep anything cold. I cleaned the coils to see if that was the problem. It helped some.. but I wouldn't put my yogurt and beer in there.

We are purchasing our second Cooper Cooler. The last one we basically just wore out with heavy use over a few years. The need to add ice (a minor inconvenience) is better than waiting 30 minutes for a chilled glass of wine at the end of the day. We were given one of the Waring chillers that is a self-refrigerated type and it takes a long time to chill (although it is fine to keep wine at temperature near the dining table). But for a cold beer quickly, or to chill wine in 6 minutes (it really does!) this is the best and quickest. When we got our first Cooper Cooler, we were afraid we would "blow up" carbonated beverages with the spinner. No problem, spinning seems to work fine with no fizzy consequences. Even works for champagne if the bottle is small enough. Some are a little big.

I love this item solely for the fact that if I have a warm drink of nearly any kind I can chill it in a matter of minutes. That having been said its drawbacks have just caused me to start keeping more things in the fridge.

Problems:

It's loud, generally from the noise of the bottle or can spinning but even the pump and water when used in the "no-spin" mode can be a bit annoying.

You have to fill it with ice, for how much the thing costs I don't want to fill it with ice! I just want to plug it in and go! That may not seem annoying but do it a few times and don't forget to empty the water and you'll see.

Overall if you need to chill things quickly (and I mean quickly) this will do the trick but don't expect it to be quiet or very convenient.

I have purchased two of these units now, one for myself and one as a gift. It cools wine and other beverages faster than any other method I have tried. If you are looking for that perfect temperature then this might not be the thing for you, but if you are looking for cold wine, this thing is great. After seeing the square trade warranty offered on ebay ( found it on amazon after 'search' because amazon didn't offer it at checkout ?) I read the SquareTrade contract details. Seems like the '4 year' warranty is only an additional 2 years beyond the OEM 2 year warranty. I guess a little bit of hype and hyperbole makes for a good sales pitch. All in all tho, aside from egregious marketing spiel, 289.00 to extend the warranty on a $2200.00 appliance is not REALLY all that terrible, esp considering most products will fail 5-10 days AFTER OEM warranty runs out lol. Sure wish they would be a little more upfront about the fact they are just offering an 'extended warranty' tho.

This repair kit work fine and is the factory part but the price was WAY TO HIGH! Repair pins for 2 shelves at that price was ridiculously high. Other than the price I'm happy to just get the one part I needed fixed.

We had the same problem that a couple of other reviewers had upon removing the unit from the box, the front door fell off. It must not have been assembled properly at the factory and now we have a 70-pound paperweight in our kitchen. There are wires that run through the door and they are frayed so no point in trying to fix this ourselves. Definitely not a good first impression!

Update 10/11/2012 we sent the damaged unit back and requested an exchange. The second unit showed up and it was damaged in the back however we decided to keep it. It keeps the wine at the desired temperature but is far from quiet. We live in a fairly small apartment and had to move the unit as far away from our bedroom as possible because of the constant whine/hum. After our experience with two units, we would definitely recommend choosing something else.

I purchased this unit after a decent amount of research. I was looking for a mid-range dual zone wine refrigerator. This one hit all the right marks, silent, decent reviews, and a good quality. It appears that there is a manufacturers default that is on-going with the door. But the unit I received this time from Amazon was in perfect condition. I had attempted to order this unit from Wine Enthusiast earlier (big mistake). This wine cooler is fairly quiet (it does make noise, it is not completely "silent"), but it is not noticeably loud, just a mild humming. It functions as advertised otherwise and keeps the wine stored at correct temperatures, and looks nice as well. I did notice that when it is not filled to capacity (with 32 bottles of wine) that it runs more quietly. It is very easy to use and self explanatory. You just take it out of the box, wait a few hours and plug it in, fill it up, and you have nicely chilled wine within another few hours.

This is the first -and hopefully last -one star review I've ever given to a product I've purchased from Amazon. The rating applies to the Wine Enthusiast 32 bottle wine cooler, which was supposed to be a wedding gift. The product was defective, shouldn't have passed quality control, but somehow it did. Anyway, Amazon's customer service was 5 stars, as usual. They supplied the return label and gave me a refund within a week. To those seeking a wine cooler, try a different brand.

Saw some of the other reviews regarding the door issue. Figured those people were just unlucky. As it turns out I was unlucky as well. Ordered the Wine Enthusiast Silent 32 Bottle Touchscreen Wine Refrigerator as a house warming gift for a friend. As we lifted out of the box we noticed the door was off and a blue wire had been cut. Not ripped or frayed but cut. I was able to repair the wire and rehang the door in about 20 mins. We were so preoccupied with the wire and the door that we didn't notice the big dent running along the top back portion of the fridge. This was extremely embarrassing and frustrating. I left it up to my friend to decide whether they would like me to return it. This product would be nice if it came properly packaged and not damaged. I will not buy a Wine Enthusiasts Product ever again.

Similar to another reviewer, frig arrived but as soon as we removed from box, the door fell off. Worse there is a wire that runs to the door for the controls which was then cut We considered trying to mend the wire but the door hinges fit so badly there was really no point Not sure if I'm going to try another but this was clearly poorly built.

I had two problems with this unit.

1) The manufacturer's packaging is inadequate for shipping (not Amazon's fault). I received two units (the second a replacement for the first), both were damaged in transit, and both have been returned. The first, the glass door was shattered, I suspect because the shelves were not well anchored inside (ironically, the manufacturer's handbook warns against shipping with loose shelves they should take their own advice). The second had a large dent in the door frame the package is simply not sturdy enough to offer adequate protection.

2) So, if you are lucky enough to get an undamaged one, is it a good product? I tried out the second one I received might have lived with the dent if I'd been satisfied. I found that although it certainly chills adequately, the fan runs continuously and generates more noise than I would care to live with.

I ultimately wound up buying an equivalent Kenwood unit, which is proving to be excellent and quiet!

My wife purchased an avanti cooler for my birthday 18 months ago. It was a bit noisy but worked. However, it stopped working so we called because it came with a two year warranty. However, when you call the company they say it isn't under warranty and wish you luck. Then when you call back to point out that they are not being truthful they tell you that will cover the compressor if you go to an authorized repair facility. However, that results in an estimate of $250 to put the free compressor if you take it to them. So save yourself a lot of agrevation and BS and avoid avanti. BEWARE

Worked well for two years then died. Very good temperature control and sound level when it worked -even more quiet now. I would not buy another Avanti product because of the poor reliability of this one. I checked the manual and it indicates that if the power doesn't come on to check my circuit breaker. I plugged another wine cooler into the same circuit and it works fine.

Acquired this model about 6 months ago; it replaced a previous failed (different brand, I think, but can't recall the name) product of the same type. When it works, does so flawlessly.

However, this Kalorik unit itself failed, exactly ONE year after manufacture.

I guess unless one is wiling to spend upwards of $1200.00 for a bona-fide, secondary refrigerator, sanctioned only for wine storage, these thermoelectric versions are woefully lacking in either design or execution. We enjoy wine, but don't have the budget or space for a large, standalone appliance.

Spending $200.00 or more for an appliance with a projected lifespan of less than 12 months is absurd. Perhaps someone will soon design and build a better product that can be afforded by regular joes like us. (Folks who will not spend more than $40.00 or so for a bottle of wine.)

*********UPDATE*********** May 2011

After poking around inside the cabinet of this appliance, a bit of sleuthing turned up a small bit of something that appeared to be a burnt-out part. That tiny little part (about the size of a pencil eraser) was identified by a local t.v. repair shop as an electrical capacitor. Apparently the one inserted during manufacture is a cheap piece of crap... maybe an example of 'planned obsolesence'? At any rate, the great repair man soldered in a new one, (much larger than the original) and within an hour we once again had a working cool cellar. $40.00 well spent, and we'll see how long this version lasts. More convenient and less expensive than either returning to Kalorik for repair, or buying another make/model.

My advice to anyone thinking about buying, or having bought one of these units (by any brand name) that has died: don't be too afraid to carefully open up the back and do some investigating. Chances are that perhaps the entire appliance has become useless due to the failure of a simple $2.00-or-less part. Of couse, it helps if you can diagnose the problem yourself, but sometimes things such as this are not really that difficult to do. Don't be afraid of the appliance, just make sure to unplug it first. We certainly would generate much less waste if things were better-engineered, and we were less inclined to simply throw away things that no longer work, instead of fixing them.

Have owned this for about a month and the bottom section keeps the red wine at a balmy 68 degrees. Understand that the highest you can set it for is 64 degrees. The fans spin but it won't keep the wine cool. Turns out it would cost more to have a repair tech look at it than what we paid for it. If you're looking for a good wine fridge look elsewhere.

UPDATE:

I received the replacement part. Their installation instructions said you need a voltometer and a saldering iron. Puleeze. I took the entire unit and their replacement parts and put them in the dumpster.

We had this unit less than a year before the control board failed. The best Vinotemp will do is sell us a new control board for $35. Of course you'll be replacing their notoriously unreliable control board with yet another notoriously unreliable control board, so who knows how long it will be before you're fridge stops working again. I'm just going to try to sell this piece of junk for what I can get and move on to another manufacturer.

They removed all the bad reviews for this unit, including one I already wrote last summer.

So much for Amazon's integrity. This is the worst piece of junk we have ever received. Given as a gift in May, 2009, the unit's cooling board failed after approx 6 weeks. The customer service failed continually. The shelves were warped and did not fit. The replacement unit arrived in September. No instructions, then instructions that were written in Chinese English. It would take a professional electrician to install but they want me to do that. I might try, and get shocked and at least make some money in the lawsuit.

They may make good expensive units, but Vinotemp ought to be ashamed of selling junk like this.

I purchased this product in the fall of 2008 and gave it a good rating then. Unit worked fine for 1 year. Then the zones started to have difficulty maintaining temperatures. If preset temp was 60 it would often run 10 degrees lower. Not good for my reds.

Then after 2 years it stopped working completely. Not sure about other Vinotemp products, but I cannot recommend this model to anyone.

Customer service says I have to replace both circuit boards! After 2 year? That costs $90 and you have to install and solder yourself that's crazy. Going to Wine Enthusiast and order a more reliable unit.

The unit looks great but unfortunately it is a huge disappointment since it failed in less than three months. The worst part of this is that the customer service is horrible so it appears that my unit will never be repaired. I have been told that the replacement board will be in within a week or two for over three months and I still don't have the part. I should have done more research on this company before buying this wine cooler since this seems to be the norm for this unit along with the company's poor customer service. My refrigerator water dispenser stopped working and I knew the most likely culprit was going to be the inlet valve. I ordered this valve and while waiting for it to ship I watched a video on youtube showing step by step how to replace these devices. Once I received the inlet valve I had it installed in let than 15 minutes. The inlet valve works flawlessly and I now have water again! I would recommend using this vendor as they were quick in shipping my order and the valve was packaged well so I had no issues with freight damage. I recommend anyone who needs to replace this search youtube for video instructions showing how to replace the valve. It's simple once you understand the trick for disconnecting the water lines.
