This replacement cartridge is very easy to use. I mounted the unit to the back wall beneath the sink so it was out of the way. This has made it more difficult to service. So to have a replacement cartridge that is easy to replace without extra effort is a blessing.

The filter also does a great job of making our water taste much better; the chlorine flavor is gone.

I remodeled my kitchen a few years ago and put in an instant hot water faucet (which i love) by the sink. It was recommended to me to install a water filter between the water source and the heater tank, so I got a Whirlpool kit. This is the replacement filter. All I have to do is shut of the switch at the top, unscrew the old filter, screw in the new one, and flip the shut-off switch. Very easy. I only have to change the filter about every 10 months or so, and they're not expensive.

This hasn't done a good job. It leaves a funky taste in the ice cubes. We're planning to replace it with another one

to see how it goes. Looking at factory replacement, otherwise we didn't like it at all.

12001892 Maytag Refrigerator Water Valve

My refrigerator was making ice but the water function on the front of the freezer door stopped allowing us to get water. I did some research & used a meter to find out both valves on the back of the fridge had stopped working. Each valve had 2 different sets of wire terminals, 4 total between both valves, and one of the wire terminals on each valve was faulty. This allowed the ice to continue to be produced but could not pump water to the door.

I ordered both valves (Maytag 12001892 & Whirlpool 61005626) from a vendor on Amazon. I passed up the opportunity to save a couple more dollars by buying them from California and instead I chose the vendor, Pandora's OEM Appliance Parts, which are located closer to Michigan hoping they would arrive to my house a little sooner w/o paying expediting fees. I ordered them over the weekend and I assumed they would process the order on Monday, but after not getting any kind of shipping confirmation I sent a message to the vendor asking for an ETA. To my surprise they said they don't ship on Mondays & it wouldn't get processed until Tuesday. After they did ship it it arrived a few day later, which was the same day that the California company estimated the delivery originally so I missed out on saving a couple dollars.

Once the product arrived, I ran into some issues and challenges I was not expecting.

The first item, 12001892, was completely not what I ordered, it was a part for a washing machine. After talking to Pandora's OEM Appliance Parts they shipped out a new one from some other supplier located a couple miles from my house that arrived the next day. They even admitted that another customer

The second item, 61005626 had THREE problems:

1) it was not an exact match to what the old valve looked like, but this was not the fault of the vendor. Whirlpool made the decision to no longer use valves that allow the water lines to thread into them and they now push into a compression fitting so this required extra work I was not expecting. With the some great help from Pandora's OEM Appliance Parts they explained what I need to do. I had to buy new tubing and a converter compression fitting.

2) After getting everything together I found out one of the compression fittings on the actual valve was broken & would not seal correctly. It was leaking water very badly! So I had to again call the supplier and have them send another one. Again the sent it from the same supplier that they knew that happened to be located a couple miles from my house. I asked if I could just go there and pick it up and they would not allow it so I had to wait another day.

3) The new valve that arrived the next day was different from what they shipped me the first time and had two different size valves. It was actually looked like the original one with the threads I was replacing but now I had to redo some of the other "extra work" I did and put in a different size water tube and add an extension of the tube with a compression fitting to make it work.

Functionality: (4 out of 5)

But after it was all done, everything worked. The next question is for how long?

I am not sure how to rate them, this entire project was all over the place and took a lot longer then it ever should have. Pandora's OEM Appliance Parts helped me out a lot and was good at getting back to me with questions and my many concerns. They did a great job taking care of the customer and shipping the replacements over-night, but ULTIMATELY HAD THEY TAKEN THE TIME TO DO THE JOB CORRECTLY THE FIRST TIME and check the quality of the items and verify what was being shipped matched what was ordered a lot of this could have been avoided.

I own this model and have had nothing but problems with it. At first, it would not keep items cold enough. I complained to the manufacturer and their excuse was that it was not a full size refrigerator and I should not expect it to be as cold.

Then, the refrigerator started freezing everything and would not shut off. The manufacturer sent a local repairman who replaced the thermostat under warranty. Six months later the same problem was occurring.

After researching this thermostat problem with my Marvel refrigerator I found many others complaining of the same freezing problems.

This is the second one of this model we had delivered. We wanted a fridge with a built-in ice maker. The first one produced ice that tasted like toxic waste. This was after we only had the fridge for two weeks!!!! Said it was not their problem, it was our water. The store we bought it from replaced it after threatening I was going to bring the thing to the front of their store with a sign and a sledge hammer.

Sundanzer Solar-Powered Refrigerator - 5.8 Cubic Ft., 30in.L x 40in.W x 37in.H

After months of internal debate, I finally sprang for one of these about six months ago. So far I'm very glad that I did.

I use it at a rustic, off-grid cabin. I have a tiny solar system there -60 watts of amorphous panels and 12-volt batteries with a total capacity of 205 amp hours. When I got the fridge, I planned to only run it when I was at the cabin. In reality, I haven't turned it off yet although I do turn the thermostat up and run it at around 45 degrees in order to save power when I'm not there. The spec sheet rating for power consumption seems to be accurate -I don't remember exactly but it rates it at something like 6.5 A/h per day at 78 degrees and no openings. In mid-summer it draws about 5 A/h per day when I am not there, meaning thermostat turned up and zero openings. When I am there, it draws in the range of 10-15 A/h per day with normal usage and adding of warm stuff. It draws about 3 amps when the compressor is actually running. I track the power consumption using a "Watt's up" meter (just do an Amazon search, it's another item I highly recommend).

As an item of potential interest but unverified by me, I read in a review of the freezer that it's identical except for the thermostat. So you can change this from fridge to freezer and back just buy swapping thermostats in it. Might be useful to someone.

My Sundanzer refrigerator failed shortly after the warranty ended. The company knew right away what the problem had to beholes in the freon linebut they won't do anything about it. They told me to get a refrigerator repair person to fix it. When I called one he told me that they must be using cheap freon lines that are defective, and that the holes can be tiny and impossible to find. And if the holes are in the line that is imbedded inside the insulation, it is not possible to fix it. This was not a cheap fridge and I am so disapointed. I have one of their freezers as well and it is doing finebut obviously some of the freon lines are defective. I wish the company would stand behind their products but they don't.

However, try to get one fixed or someone who knows how it operates (from the main office) will get you nowhere plus a big runaround from Billy Amos. Getting replacement parts is another issue. Their customer service is almost non-existent. If you buy one...you are on your own.

GE GTH18GBDWW 18.1 Cu. Ft. White Top Freezer Refrigerator - Energy Star

I did a LOT of research before I bought this model. 26 out of 32 people gave it 5 stars. Well, I like the fridge fine but it is so LOUD! I know others complained about it, but I wasn't prepared for how noisy it is. My old Kenmore, which I had for 23 years, made no noise at all. I can hear it on the other side of the house. Sounds like a dishwasher running. Even my two cats look up, like, what's going on? And when the ice falls into the bucket, they jump. I have called for a repair person to come later in the week, but based on what I've heard others say, I don't expect anything will happen there. If I return it, there will be a 20% restocking fee (which would be over $108 dollars and I would lose, of course, the nonrefundable delivery charge for a total of $168. Or, I can replace it with the exact same model. The previous reviewer said shame on GE, and I agree. Shame on GE for such a noisy appliance. I thought modern appliances were supposed to be better!!!!!

No refridgerator I have ever owned made this loud and anoying noise. GE offered to replace it with another model plus $226 from me but, the reviews said it made the noise too. Guess I will just have to live with the NOISE. Shame on you GE !!!

SquareTrade 4-Year Appliance Protection Plan ($100-125)

I did a fair amount of looking into this extended warranty service since there weren't any Amazon reviews yet, so I thought I would report what I learned in case it is helpful to anyone else.

Short version for impatient readers:

If the item is $100 and the warranty is $25 for 4 years, then you're paying $25 for up to $100 of any repairs occurring within 4 years, with zero deductible. In effect, the first $25 of repair costs are prepaid (the purchase price of the warranty is basically an up-front, one-time deductible), and up to $75 of further repair costs will be free. This is a bad deal if you believe you're buying a reliable product, or you expect to upgrade within 2-3 years anyway (iPod, cell phone). This is a good deal if you believe there is a high risk of failure on an item you want to last you for 5+ years (microwave oven).

My rating is three stars because they're more likely to make money from you than you are to have a faulty product, and because I have no experience with their claims process.

Unfortunately I didn't find any that commented on any their claims experience, as the quality of an extended warranty is ultimately decided by the fine print of the contract and the customer service of the claim process. But for what it's worth, I'd rate the ease of purchase 4-stars. The procedure is:

2) create an account on the SquareTrade website

3) forward your Amazon purchase confirmation email to them with a special code copied from the SquareTrade site pasted into the subject line

4) no paperwork needs to be saved, the contract and receipt are maintained online

HOW IT WORKS

1) if your product breaks due to electrical or mechanical failure, file a claim through the SquareTrade website

2) they send you a free shipping label to send the item to their central repair center and they guarantee a 5-day turnaround or the price of your warranty is refunded

3) they decide whether to repair it or to reimburse you the original purchase price if the repair will be more expensive than the reimbursement

WHAT YOU'RE REALLY BUYING

The warranty works kind of like a debit account. If your original purchase price is $100, then the maximum value of the warranty is $100 and any repairs or reimbursements are deducted from that amount. For example, if they gave you a $100 repair or reimbursement in year 2 of a 4-year warranty, then the warranty "is considered fulfilled", in other words you are no longer covered for the remainder of the 4-year period.

During the time the product is covered by the original manufacturer's warranty, SquareTrade will do nothing more than give you the contact info to file a claim with the manufacturer. If the item is repaired or replaced by the manufacturer, the SquareTrade warranty will continue to apply to the repaired/replaced item from the original purchase date.

IS IT WORTH IT?

It depends on what product you'd be buying it for since repair rates and costs vary. Although their price is cheaper and/or their warranty is longer than some other options, 20-25% of the purchase price still isn't exactly cheap. And if this warranty worked out in the customer's favor more often than not then SquareTrade wouldn't be in business.

I purchased this warranty for a microwave oven, because in my opinion the failure rate is unacceptably high for any brand. I expect a microwave to last much more than four years but I don't trust that it will because it's not to the manufacturer's advantage for it to have a long life. Read the review section for any microwave on Amazon, on you will find from 10-50% of reviewers angry that their new microwave suddenly died. Many complain that their old [insert name brand] microwave lasted 10+ years, and this new [insert name brand] microwave died within two years. I suspect that microwaves are the sort of product that manufacturers have tuned their cost/quality/warranty trade-offs so that the price is low, the failure rate is high, and the mean-time-to-failure is only slightly longer than the typical warranty period of one year.

So I thought this coverage was worth it for a new microwave. If it dies, I'll essentially get a new one for $26. If it doesn't die, then I dodged a bullet and in four years I won't mind having paid $6.50/year for lemon insurance.

I just made my first claim under a Square Trade warranty on our dishwasher. I was astounded at the speed with which my initial claim was reviewed (and it was submitted and approved on a holiday weekend) and how fast the repair was authorized. The repair costs were reimbursed in full almost immediately after I submitted the repair invoice with no quibble whatsoever. From beginning to end, the service level was top-flight, including telephone interaction with a company representative. I have a half-dozen other Square Trade warranties in effect and I am glad I purchased the extra protection and at such a low cost in every instance. I virtually never buy manufacturer or retail store extended warranties because they are far too expensive to cost justify, especially for electronice devices. With Square Trade coverage, that's not the case and I will continue to buy warranty protection from them. Now that I have actually made a claim with Square Trade and have seen first-hand how smooth the process is, I have total confidence in the protection offered by all of my other existing extended warranties.

When I bought a new GE countertop microwave over a year ago, I bought a 3-year extended warranty with Sqaretrade for it, but after that I forgot about that.

Last month the GE microwave stop working all of sudden, could not power up and it just ran out of one-year product warranty, it's not worth repairing and I was going to trash it and buy a new one next few days. I just got this today to replace a GE that cost over twice the price so I will temper my review. The unit sits next to a subzero and the cosmetics match nicely though there are imperfections in the brushed stainless that are apparent if you look closely. My unit came with a very annoying ding in the stainless panel of the door that didn't happen during shipping. I will contact the seller and try to get a new panel or door. The height of the unit is a half inch higher than specified with the legs in the shortest position. I had to remove the legs and get felt pads for the bottom to make it fit under my counter. It cooled right down but is much noisier than my previous one. Shelves are flimsier but perhaps adequate except that there are no side rails! When you pull out the shelf, the bottles on the end can just fall on the floor. Shouldn't be hard to make a fix but the shelf must have been designed by someone that never used a wine frig. Overall it has a pleasing look and so far is doing its job. The bottom shelf doesn't slide out but you can store bottles there, just not see them easily. The spacing of the shelves is actually better than my GE was. Slightly fatter bottles fit any shelf without tearing labels.

Addendum one week later. The seller won't ship just a replacement panel or door but will swap units or give a $75 refund to settle. I am taking the $75 because I don't want the hassle of repacking and shipping just because of a dent. It seems like a fair deal. I found a simple solution to the lack of side rails on the shelves. I cut 90 degree moldings from Home Depot into 16" sections and secured them to the edges existing shelves. Doesn't look bad at all and works great. The pine wood matches the shelves like it belongs there. Can't believe that these shelves were designed this way. The unit is still working fine. It's still loud (even as a built-in) and seems to be running most of the time, unfortunately. Still 3 stars.

In 2011, we purchased a Vinotemp wine cooler for our office. Within two months the control board failed. The unit was in warranty so it was replaced at Vinotemp's expense. One year later the control board failed again. At this point, the unit was out of warranty. We paid for a repair service (same service recommended by Vinotemp for first repair) to replace the part. The repair service was told the part was no longer available (we paid the service call). I contacted Vinotemp personally and was told the part was out of stock but the part was on back order from China. They originally had received the parts from China, but they were rejected because they did not have the correct voltage. We waited 6 weeks for the part to arrive at Vinotemp and then another 1-1/2 weeks to receive it in our office. During this time, Vinotemp did not contact me to update me on status. In every case, I had to call or email them to determine status on the part. After we received the part, we called the repair service to come and install it. Again, it was defective and again we paid a service call. I contacted Vinotemp to request that they supply us with a new part that worked and I asked that they assume responsibility for cost of the second repair which was required because they had supplied us with a defective part. After emails and phone calls over a four-week period, they notified me that they were sending the part (which they say they had tested), but they refused to pay for the repair costs. This small wine cooler has cost us $270 for repairs and parts. Costs to install another replacement part will be $216. At this point, it's not worth the cost to continue repairing this unit. Vinotemp obviously does not care about promoting good will among their customers and does not utilize reputable or reliable parts suppliers. Run, don't walk, away from Vinotemp!!!

We were attempting to replace our outdated trash compactor with a useful appliance when we purchased our first wine cooler, a Whynter product. That one failed to maintain temperature (actually would HEAT) after two weeks in place.

This Vinotemp was our second attempt at a wine cooler. We paid about $100 more thinking we were approaching a standard of quality we hadn't reached with the first one. Wrong.

Item arrived in perfect condition; no damage to packaging or the unit itself. I let the unit unit sit for 24+ hours per the instructions to allow any fluids to settle in the compressor then plugged it in the next day. The display did not work whatsoever; the wine cooler compressor fired up but, after about 30 minutes, had stopped and the cooler was doing nothing.

I scoured the Vinotemp website for troubleshooting tips (loose connector on display?) and their website was worthless. Instructions said "Unload the display" without any help or suggestion as to how to go about "unloading" the display. I called Vinotemp, reached voicemail, left a voicemail, and never received a call back.

After all this, I had to load this POS back into the packaging and set it in the driveway for return pickup.

Seller sent automated apologetic email suggesting sometimes items are damaged in shipment but this was not Fedex's fault. I blame Vinotemp.

Steer clear. Vinotemp is known for their "custom wine cellars" not these dinky wine coolers.

My husband and I bought this unit 2 years ago while doing a remodel to rental suite (they'd have their private mini-kitchen). It sat for a few months in the box waiting to be installed inside the house, air conditioned, and away from sunlight. We finally opened an installed it 9/2011. Aside from using it twice for chilling party trays (turning it on when needed, off when not), it didn't go into "full-time use" until we had a renter move in upstairs and began to use it 9/1/2012. The renter noticed an issue in March 2013 as her milk and other food was going bad faster than the expiration dates and finally brought it to our attention on 3/20/2013. We put a thermometer inside, left the fridge closed for 30 minutes, and took a reading it was 20 degrees warmer in the fridge than the digital thermometer was set to (we left it in overnight and it never went lower than 57 degrees). My husband called Avanti the next day (as they were closed) and a serviceperson was sent out today (3/22/2013). For $65 the serviceperson looked the unit over and declared that there was a sealant issue in the lines that could not be fixed and that we would need to call our city to properly dispose of it. Great. We're out of the warranty zone and out $700, but if there's anything we've learned from this is:

Fridge-fairies do not exist.

Get a fridge with a 2 year or more warranty.

Stand alones are 1/3 the price or more than the cost of a built in.

They only last 2 years before petering out especially when they're this cheap (according to the serviceperson representing Avanti!)

If you're really concerned about looks, spend around $1,000 or more for a good mini-fridge built-in. Or buy a full fridge.

First off, I did not order through Amazon so this negative review is not a reflection on Amazon. However, I want to share my experience with others who may consider this mini fridge. It took 10 days for delivery, then arrived totally dented all over (3 of 4 sides had numerous dents). The packaging was terrible. Flimsy cardboard and not nearly enough styrofoam to protect it.

I can't comment on how well the fridge works because I returned it and opted for a better brand to replace it.

This product is exactly what I wanted, We have a small refrigerator in our kitchen and it does well enough to hold food, but not that many beverages. For the size and price there was no way I could pass this up, I would recommend this to anyone that doesnt like their husbands beer in the fridge haha, but there is also enough room to hold other food items and the little freezer space is also great and came with this little ice cube tray. not a ding scratch or dent on it either. over all great buy!!

I never bothered to even turn it on. The door would not stay on and it would would not stay steady on the floor. Probably not a good idea buying something like this online.
