Retro Series Microwave Oven
I like it. It has a great user interface no huge keypad but very well thought out knob and a couple of buttons. Turn the knob left and one can choose the set functions; popcorn, plate, spud, etc. Turn the knob right and choose length of time. Tap the knob and voila, the microwave runs. The buttons on the bottom are for stop/cancel, setting 30 second intervals, power level (1-10) and setting the clock. It has a turntable (which I worried about). All in all I really like this microwave. It looks great on my counter top and works well. What more could one ask for?
I'll write more if it doesn't work for long, but based on the sturdiness of the door and quality of design, I expect it to last.We loved the look of this microwave and the size is perfect for our needs. However, it didn't work. It would run for a second or two and then shut off.
Neither the manual, nor the website, have troubleshooting information. We tried numerous times to contact the manufacturer's customer service line and could never get anyone to answer the phone. Emails went unanswered. We finally gave up and returned the product for a refund. Such a shame.

Love the look of this micro, it looks as cool in person as it does online. It's sturdy, the door closes soundly, and I really liked the ease of the dials. It proves that simple can still be functional.I did send this microwave back for a refund, though, the day after it arrived. The microwave is EXTREMELY loud, my kid came from the next room to see what the commotion was. It also shook/vibrated so hard that it shook the entire counter, we watched as it shook a small bottle across and off the edge of the counter.
It reminded me of the microwave we had in my parent's house when I was a teen, in the 1980's, with the noise level and the shaking/vibrating. Huge Bummer!
ETA 1/26/2012 Unless you've designed this machine, or own stock in the company, I sincerely hope you'll do your best to not take my review personally. Odds are I got a defective machine, but either way, there's no need to take my impersonal review of an inanimate object and start to call names, I'm reviewing the micro, not you, kind and gentle readers.

This is a cute oven. I only wish it were a little more powerful. But it's a second microwave for me, so I use the higher-wattage one if I need more power. Mostly bought it for looks! It arrived in good time and was as described.** UPDATE **
I received this around the end of June 2012. By around the end of September 2012, it had stopped working -the timer and fan turn on, but it does not heat anything up any more. As it is a second microwave which I mostly bought for looks, I may see if it is worth repairing. But as far as functionality goes, I'm afraid they put everything into the looks and not the works. Too bad.Loved the way it looks. Brought it home plugged it in and made myself a cup of soup in 2 1/2 minutes, everything worked great. NEXT DAY tried to nuke a frozen dinner .... the stupid thing shut off after 3-4 minutes. I figured it may have tripped a breaker, so i moved it to another outlet but it didn't come back on. After 10 minutes or so it turned itself back on, so I tried again. SAME THING, this stupid POS won't cook for more than about 3-4 minutes at a time before it overheats and shuts down. I was tempted to return it for another one until I realized there are about 10 other people who have written about the same problem. It is a shame, I really like the way it looks and I got it on sale but if it doesn't work it's going back.

SquareTrade 4-Year Appliance Protection Plan ($100-125)
Short version for impatient readers:
====================================
If the item is $100 and the warranty is $25 for 4 years, then you're paying $25 for up to $100 of any repairs occurring within 4 years, with zero deductible. In effect, the first $25 of repair costs are prepaid (the purchase price of the warranty is basically an up-front, one-time deductible), and up to $75 of further repair costs will be free. This is a bad deal if you believe you're buying a reliable product, or you expect to upgrade within 2-3 years anyway (iPod, cell phone). This is a good deal if you believe there is a high risk of failure on an item you want to last you for 5+ years (microwave oven).
My rating is three stars because they're more likely to make money from you than you are to have a faulty product, and because I have no experience with their claims process.
Long version for OCD consumers like myself:
====================================
THE SELLER
-------------------------
SquareTrade's rating as a seller on Amazon is very high, but skimming through those comments it appears they are all from customers who just purchased the service, not from customers who have seen their warranty through to the end. Unfortunately I didn't find any that commented on any their claims experience, as the quality of an extended warranty is ultimately decided by the fine print of the contract and the customer service of the claim process. But for what it's worth, I'd rate the ease of purchase 4-stars. The procedure is:
1) add to cart & purchase
2) create an account on the SquareTrade website
3) forward your Amazon purchase confirmation email to them with a special code copied from the SquareTrade site pasted into the subject line
4) no paperwork needs to be saved, the contract and receipt are maintained online
HOW IT WORKS
-------------------------
1) if your product breaks due to electrical or mechanical failure, file a claim through the SquareTrade website
2) they send you a free shipping label to send the item to their central repair center and they guarantee a 5-day turnaround or the price of your warranty is refunded
3) they decide whether to repair it or to reimburse you the original purchase price if the repair will be more expensive than the reimbursement
WHAT YOU'RE REALLY BUYING
-------------------------
The warranty works kind of like a debit account. If your original purchase price is $100, then the maximum value of the warranty is $100 and any repairs or reimbursements are deducted from that amount. For example, if they gave you a $100 repair or reimbursement in year 2 of a 4-year warranty, then the warranty "is considered fulfilled", in other words you are no longer covered for the remainder of the 4-year period.
During the time the product is covered by the original manufacturer's warranty, SquareTrade will do nothing more than give you the contact info to file a claim with the manufacturer. If the item is repaired or replaced by the manufacturer, the SquareTrade warranty will continue to apply to the repaired/replaced item from the original purchase date.
IS IT WORTH IT?
-------------------------
It depends on what product you'd be buying it for since repair rates and costs vary. Although their price is cheaper and/or their warranty is longer than some other options, 20-25% of the purchase price still isn't exactly cheap. And if this warranty worked out in the customer's favor more often than not then SquareTrade wouldn't be in business.
I purchased this warranty for a microwave oven, because in my opinion the failure rate is unacceptably high for any brand. I expect a microwave to last much more than four years but I don't trust that it will because it's not to the manufacturer's advantage for it to have a long life. Read the review section for any microwave on Amazon, on you will find from 10-50% of reviewers angry that their new microwave suddenly died. Many complain that their old [insert name brand] microwave lasted 10+ years, and this new [insert name brand] microwave died within two years. I suspect that microwaves are the sort of product that manufacturers have tuned their cost/quality/warranty trade-offs so that the price is low, the failure rate is high, and the mean-time-to-failure is only slightly longer than the typical warranty period of one year.
So I thought this coverage was worth it for a new microwave. If it dies, I'll essentially get a new one for $26. If it doesn't die, then I dodged a bullet and in four years I won't mind having paid $6.50/year for lemon insurance.I just made my first claim under a Square Trade warranty on our dishwasher. I was astounded at the speed with which my initial claim was reviewed (and it was submitted and approved on a holiday weekend) and how fast the repair was authorized. The repair costs were reimbursed in full almost immediately after I submitted the repair invoice with no quibble whatsoever. From beginning to end, the service level was top-flight, including telephone interaction with a company representative. I have a half-dozen other Square Trade warranties in effect and I am glad I purchased the extra protection and at such a low cost in every instance. I virtually never buy manufacturer or retail store extended warranties because they are far too expensive to cost justify, especially for electronice devices. With Square Trade coverage, that's not the case and I will continue to buy warranty protection from them. Now that I have actually made a claim with Square Trade and have seen first-hand how smooth the process is, I have total confidence in the protection offered by all of my other existing extended warranties.

I am very pleased with my purchase of my new Panasonic Microwave Oven from Amazon and it's great to know that I have a 4 year appliance warranty on it too! I bought my old one at a appliance store and never had a warranty on it. This purchase makes me feel "secure" that if anything happens I will either get it repaired or get a new unit!Read Best Reviews of SquareTrade 4-Year Appliance Protection Plan ($100-125) Here
When I bought a new GE countertop microwave over a year ago, I bought a 3-year extended warranty with Sqaretrade for it, but after that I forgot about that.Last month the GE microwave stop working all of sudden, could not power up and it just ran out of one-year product warranty, it's not worth repairing and I was going to trash it and buy a new one next few days. Lukily and surprisingly I found that I had bought extended warranty for it with SquarTrde, I immediately made a phone call to claim the warranty, guess what? it just took me 5 minutes and I was told I will get the full refund for the price of the microwave (bought the extended warranty for $9) after signing the paperwork, I even did not need to return the broken microwave, surprise! surprise!! surprise!!! Next day I bought a new microwave and immediately bought another extended warranty with SquarTrade, peace of mind! highly recommended!

I was glad I found this insert for the refrigerator shelf. When it broke I thought I was going to have to replace the whole shelf at a much higher price. Purchasing from the manufacturer is always a safer bet.Read Best Reviews of GE WR71X10764 Module Shelf Insert for Refrigerator Here
After years of abuse, the door shelves in the refridgerator could take it no more. Crack!Used condiments, all over the floor.
Not to worry, a quick trip to the appliance page, and I was able to resupply, at a fraction of the cost of a service call.
Want GE WR71X10764 Module Shelf Insert for Refrigerator Discount?
Much cheaper than replacing the whole bin. Snaps into place easily. (I bought it for a GE Profile)Caution:
My first insert had to be returned because it arrived broken at the edge. I think this was because a second item was rattling around in the same box. Make sure anything else you order at the same time as this part is soft and fuzzy!

Watts 5YR Premier Filter 5-Year/20,000-Gallon Inline Ice Maker Water Filter
Pro: cheap, works well, again cheap
Cons: has to be unscrewed to replace and water must be turned off, where as some more expensive have 1/4 turn replacement filters.

This is my second filter. The first one was purchased around four years ago for the ice and water dispensor on the fridge. We use this quite a bit so we didn't get the full 5 Years but I'm almost certain we used more than 20,000 gallons. The filter removes odors better than any other filters I've tried in the past and improves tastes also. I'm on city water supply thats been treated.
If your tired of changing filters every 3-6 months I urge you to try one of these.I have had this filter in use for approx. 8 months. So far so good. The water tastes great. I bought this unit due primarily to lazyness. My installation is in a tough to reach place and I wanted to avoid changing out the unit every year or so. No complaints so far. The unit has performed well.
Want Watts 5YR Premier Filter 5-Year/20,000-Gallon Inline Ice Maker Water Filter Discount?
We've been buying this filter for many years for our ice maker on the refrigerator. Yes, it says 5 years, but we never expected that and usually replaced it every year. We follow the instructions for running water through it and are used to the shot of black water (from the charcoal) that comes out first. This year, after running more water through it than ever before, we continued to have small particles in the water. These were not air bubbles as they continued to swirl in the water glass. I made a special rig to hook it up directly to an outside hose bib (so we didn't have to use the 'bucket brigade' and ran water through it continuously for 20 minutes. We continued to have the particles. We removed the filter and connected our city water directly to the refrigerator and the particles were gone. We won't be buying this filter again. Amazon was very nice about the return and we will continue to purchase through them.
