This is an exact replacement for the GE ice maker. After reading a post somewhere that the GE part was made by Samsung and the Samsung part could be used in place of, as well as being cheaper (by by-passing the GE mark-up)it was a no-brainer to order this part. It was delivered on time, and well packaged. Removing and replacing the old part with the new one took less than 5 minutes. Ice cubes started flowing (or being dumped out) a few hours later.
Worked perfectly. Fast shipping. Not damaged. Excellent price. Can't ask for more. Does take 24 to 48 hrs to make ice after installed. That's the normal operation. Got me alittle worried at first.

Note that there was a recall on the control board for these fridges. Search online to find how to check the control board for the correct version if your ice maker is having a problem working very slowly.

I've never had a worse refrigerator in my entire life! I got a great deal on this fridge 4 years ago. As it turns out, it wasn't such a great deal.
For the first few months, every 3rd or 4th time I opened the refrigerator, the shelves would fall off of the door, dropping all of my dressings and condiments onto the floor. Once, that would be annoying; after several times, I was ready to chuck the fridge. My husband ended up taping the shelves on with electrical tape and that solved that problem.
After about a year, the door hinge began to bend. We didn't have heavy stuff in the door nothing more than normal. As the door bent, it started getting caught on the switch that turns the light off as the door closes, causing the door to not close. To solve this problem, we taped part of a clothes pin to the door and it closed just fine.
The freezer was a huge problem! It NEVER SEALED COMPLETELY! For years, we've had slimy popsicles, fuzzy ice, and ice cream with a strange texture. You could tell by looking at the door that it wasn't totally sealed and the door stuck out past the refrigerator door.
About a year ago, the refrigerator stopped cooling. I cleaned the compressor and turned it down and it seemed to nurse it along for a little bit.
About two weeks ago, we began hearing a mysterious clicking noise in the kitchen. We couldn't find it, but it began to become more frequent. On Saturday morning, I opened the freezer to get something and noticed that everything was thawed, the ice compartment was full of water, and the temperature was only mildly cool. After further inspection, we realized that the refrigerator was also warm.
To sum it up, this refrigerator lasted us about 4 very annoying years. It has been my least favorite appliance and the object of much anger and frustration. I was angry when it died a premature death, but also relieved because I could finally buy something new that is reliable.
DO NOT BUY THIS REFRIGERATOR! Save yourself the heartache, spend a little more money, and buy something that works.

We have had this refrigerator for over a year now and have found it to be okay as a refrigerator, but there are some design choices Samsung made which detract seriously from this fridge. First, the icemaker. The whole system is a mess. You cannot go in the freezer and get some ice out of the bin as we could in previous fridges. This means to put ice in a small mouth container we usually have to use a cup and transfer the cubes.
A bigger issue is the ice dispenser itself. Every time we use it chips of ice, some quite large, spew out from around the top of the glass and shower on the floor. There are always little puddles of water on our floor, and eventually it will damage the polyurethane coating. We are also now experiencing a more concerning issue. The ice outlet gets jammed and the motorized drive which moves the ice out gets stuck on. When this happens, the only way we have found to resolve the issue is the remove the ice bin, empty and rinse out all the little chunks of ice stuck in the outlet, and then put the empty bucket back in. This has happened several times, once when one of our kids was home by herself and the motor was stuck on for 10-15 minutes while she tried to reach us on the phone to ask what to do.
I also am concerned about the longevity of this fridge due to the flimsy nature of the plastic which lines the insider of the refrigerator side. When moving one of the shelves it went in at too much of an angle to slide in and the molded plastic shelf channel just buckled inward. Very little force was applied, this is not reasonable. We have also had the defroster in the freezer freeze over requiring a full defrost, but I think this is because we had some plastic bags covering some of the inlets.
In all, I would not recommend this refrigerator, there are other options at the same price point which might not have the same icemaker issues.
Update: More problems with this Fridge, I am pushing it down to one star and cannot recommend at all. We have not had a repeat of the stuck ice dispenser, we just dump all the ice every month or so. However, now we are regularly getting ice build up in the sealed area where the defrost fan is, which contacts the fan blade and makes a horrible noise. I thought it was a problem with covering the outlets, but we have been careful about that. I now have to use a hairdryer to melt the ice out every 6-8 weeks, but in the process melted some of the cheap plastic lining the inside of the freezer compartment. I recently lowered the freezer temperature and it seems to have slowed down the ice formation but the freezer is now not cold enough for long term storage, we have to use a spare freezer for that.
The ice spewing out I described in my original review continues to be a major annoyance, and we have some water marks on our cork floor from bigger chunks we did not locate when they shot out of the dispenser. All in all, this appears to be a pretty cheaply made product, we are already saving for a replacement. Not at all what I expected from Samsung, we generally love their products, but now avoid any kitchen appliances made by them.
After looking at a number of brands and models of refrigerators, we settled on the Samsung RS261MD in stainless. We liked the overall look, interior arrangement, fit and finish, and the fact that the side was painted a neutral grey, rather than black (personal preference). It is also rated as very energy efficient and priced competively. We knew we were making a couple of compromises and a some other issues came up after we had it in our home. These are:
o LED lighting Energy efficient and looks cool. On a pricier Samsung model there were more lights. We found after it was fully loaded this fridge does not really have enough to fully light the interior of the fridge side as well as it should. Freezer seems better.
o Ice Maker/water Like most new refrigerators, all of the controls are contained in an electronic pad on the front of the fridge, integrated with the temperature controls. Had to read the instructions (difficult for a man) to figure everything out. We had a temporary scare with getting ice through the door, as you have to push much harder than we expected to get ice to come out, hard enough that our young kids struggle with it a little. I miss the simplicity of the manual controls we had before and hope the components hold up to the test of time. Having just a single opening for both water and ice means we have to push buttons to get water and ice, maybe a minor point, but all the button pushing will put miles on the electronics fast.
o Shelves There is only a minimal ability to set the vertical distance between shelves, something we are already seeing as an issue. Probably pretty minor, but we are having to rethink how we store things as we don't have the flexibilty to do what we want. The thin materials which make up the fixed ledges on which the shelves rest are a concern, they were slightly crushed during shipment for one set we have to use. On the upside, the icemaker arrangement leaves a nice space for large flat things like frozen pizzas, which were always a challenge before.
o Water filter The water filter is inside the refrigerator compartment and takes away some space from the lower drawer. No big deal, but every inch counts in our house.
o Labels This is a nitpick, but all the labels and tape which came attached to the inside and outside of the refrigerator left residue which was a pain to get off. The one on the outside just would not come off without scraping, something you don't really want to do on a shiny new appliance.
Right now, I say we are satisfied, but with some long-term concerns.
Been thru 7, yes 7, Samsung Fridges since May. Not one has lasted. Started out low with the R26 side by side. 1 DOA and 1 died in 6 days. Moved up to RG side by side. It lasted 3 weeks before dying. Upgraded to the French Door AERS. It lasted about 4 weeks. Next was the HARS. It too lasted about 4 weeks before a myriad of issues reared their ugly heads.
At this point, I should have simply walked away from samsung but then my retailer offered me a great deal on the ABBP model with the duel ice makers (black color)for very cheap..couldnt resist the price...big mistake.....it died...well, lets just say it was DOA as it started cooling but never stopped. Would not defrost so it first froze everything in my FRIDGE section, before the compressor died that night, waking me to spoiled food, lots of water in the fridge, freezer, kitchen floor, which was quite a chore to clean up (some previous models had similar issue)....then they swapped that out for the ABRS (same fridge with dual ice makers, but in stainless instead of black)..It actually lasted until 2 weeks ago when the 1st issue arose and over the past 2 weeks, the issues have gotten continually worse. Left me no choice.....Went back to retailer and told them to take back their lemon samsung. The entire samsung lineup is a lemon line if I ever saw one. I've had plenty of fridges in my life and have never had any issues. My last fridge was fine...it was 10 years old...still working great...But it developed a small crack in the defrost pan that holds the water after defrosting. Not bad, but it would leak a few drops on to the floor. Repair guy said everything on unit was working great, other then the leak...advided it would cost about $200 to fix the pan.....wasnt sure if I wanted to put $200 in to a 10 year old fridge or put that $$ towards a new fridge. Decided to go with a new one. Wished I hadn't as the past 7 months has been a nightmare due to these LEMON SAMSUNGS.
Now awaiting a whirlpool and hope I have better luck, but regadless, I would not wish ANY SAMSUNG MODEL ON MY WORST ENEMY...RUN, DONT WALK..AWAY FROM ANY SAMSUNG. I have several Samsung Electronics and never had a problem until I bought this refrigerator. This fridge is awful and I wish I had a way of knowing exactly what it would be like living with it before purchasing.
Issue Number ONE: Doesnt get very cold. If I pour a glass of milk, it's not very cold like it was from my old fridge. After testing the temperature, it hovered around the 40 degree mark but wasn't consistent throughout the fridge. The freezer seems better
Issue TWO: it's very noisy. I am typically sitting at the table working and hear it more than most, but it is loud and growling much of the time. I suspect it's the icemaker or water compartment filling up, but my old fridge had the same features and never sounded so loud and gastrointestinal!
Issue three: The lighting in this fridge is awful. It does not light up all the shelves and it only lights up the top portion of the fridge. Add food the the shelves and it's actually dark in there. I hate the lighting..it's almost depressing to be honest. Most fridges now come with LED lighting, but knowing it's not as bright as incandescent should mean using more lights.. you'll see what I mean when you shop for your new fridge
Issue Three: The icemaker is not good. If you switch from crushed to cubed, it sticks on crushed and spits out shards of ice all over the place. The container for the ice is small, so if you entertain or really use a lot of ice, this isn't for you.

Although Samsung has a reputation for fine product designs, this refrigerator is not one of them. I have had this model for a few years now. The defrost issue with the freezer causing ice to form around the fan is the biggest problem, but there is a list of things to consider. Before I get into them, let me just say that I have had no problem with the physical use components of the design. The shelves and drawers are fine. Here is what is not good though:
The LED interior lighting was intentionally placed in the back of the unit to make the more expensive models where there are more LED's and in better places more attractive. Once the refrigerator is loaded with food, most of the light is blocked and the interior is too dark.
The water and ice dispenser requires excessive force to engage the switch. Once the ice dispenser is engaged, ice comes out quite rapidly. On occasion, ice does not drop down and the chute fills with ice cubes. This is annoying. It is also not uncommon for a couple of ice cubes to hang up in the chute. They drop out onto the floor several minutes later when they start to melt and work free.
_ If the refrigerator is run in energy saver mode, ice builds up around the freezer fan in less than a week and makes a noisy growl as the fan rubs against it. I believe that it defaults to this mode when plugged in.
Freezer and refrigerator controls are on the main use panel on the front. I have kids. They have friends. It seems that someone is frequently changing the temperature settings in the refrigerator or freezer. Worst of all is when someone turns on the energy saver mode. That is sure to cause icing.
In normal operation, the freezer eventually ices up and needs to be defrosted. This is very frustrating. To get at the fan and thaw the ice, everything has to come out and the back panel inside the freezer must be removed.
In summary then, this Samsung model has several design flaws that added up to an unpleasant experience for me. Since others are reporting the same problems, I just can't recommend it at this time.
This item was an exact match for my existing KitchenAid fridge diffuser. The plugs and connectors were identical and it installed quickly with minimal fuss. This part appears to be OEM based on the packaging. The price for this item was better than any other on the web. I was able to replace this part in less time than waiting on a service call and for a fraction of the price as other vendors. It was another great Amazon experience thanks to this excellent vendor.
First of all, the good part: This fridge is a gorgeous piece of kitchenware. The stainless steel looks stunning next to my oak cabinets, and I've gotten quite a few compliments.
However, it's functionality does not live up to its fabulous facade.
So, here are the bad parts:
The water dispenser is separate from and placed above the ice dispenser, so that the drip tray (even if extended) will not catch any excess water sloshed about. It also confuses anyone new to the fridge and you'll end with water all over your floor. We've started keeping water in pitchers when we host parties to prevent this. Still, we inevitably end up having to hand out towels to at least one unfortunate soul.
The ice maker is horrible. The ice cubes stick together constantly, so that you have to bang on it a bit. Plus, we've already had to call and get someone to come out and put in a new ice cube tray when ours got stuck mid-rotation and started making strange grinding noises. Keep in mind, this occurred about 4 weeks after we purchased the fridge. The repairman said it was something about the way the doors close that caused all the problems with the ice cube maker. He said we wouldn't have problems if we didn't open both the doors at once. However, to access the bottom produce drawer, you have to open both doors.
The freezer holds a lot less than our old GE fridge (which was comparably much smaller in size). I'm not quite sure why.
The fridge cools unequally (more so than any other fridge I've ever owned or heard of). I've found that the upper part of the refrigerator actually gets quite warm, and anything placed there will go bad rather quickly. I'm not talking about a bit more warm, but the sort of hot-to-warm temperature that will encourage even preserved foods to sour. If I lower the temperature of the refrigerator to the point where things will keep relatively well on those upper shelves, the vegetables and fruits in the bins at the bottom of the refrigerator freeze.
The energy saver temperatures kept my ice cream melty and made my squash go bad.
The stainless steel looks great, but you can see every fingerprint. It's also horrible to clean. Windex or water will leave streaks. You have to rub them off with a microfiber towel or get a special stainless steel cleaner.
I like the way this fridge looks, and like all stainless appliances it shows streaks and finger prints, but it's worth it to me. If you are troubeled by that issue, don't by anything stainless. That isn't LGs fault, it's just a fact of the finish. I like that I can easily place a half sheet pan on any shelf and the fact that there are four separate drawers. All fridges are warmest at the top, so store less perishiable things up there.
It doesn't make huge amounts of ice, and the cubes are really small, but I don't have a large family so it isn't a problem for me. What is a problem is the way the left door closes. It is easy to have the mullion not go into it's channel, leaving the door open about an inch. It's true that it will beep after a minute or so, but if you grabbed your lunch out of the fridge on your way out the door, it will just beep all day and the fridge will be about 50 degrees on your return. Because I have never owned a french door fridge, I don't know if any other manufacturers have this problem. Could be a challenge for all of them.
I wouldn't recommend this fridge if you have children getting in and out of it for the above reason. If I had it to do over again, I'd buy this same model, even with the mullion problem. I just keep my lunch behind the right hand door now.
I have owned this refrigerator for a couple of years now, and it has been wonderful. No trouble at all, keeps food very cold. I like the French Doors, very usable space. The interior is beautiful with the LED lighting. The Linear Compressor is very quiet and has a ten year warranty. Ice output is moderate, but I knew that going in. It is OK for my use. My old refer would freeze my eggs. This one has no problems like that. I can say without reservation that this is the best refrigerator that I have ever owned! I also own an LG Washer and Dryer and they have been working away trouble free for 5 years now. My LG Stove has also been great, some trouble with the capacitive touch control panel, but LG service replaced it with out a problem. For me anyway, I like all the LG appliances that I own and have no regrets about buying any of them. I think people are most likely to write a review if they have a bad experience than if they have a good experience.
If I were only grading the refrigerator and freezer, this would have five stars. We seem to have much better temperature control than we had with our 6-year old side-by-side Kenmore. Our produce and deli meats seem to stay fresh longer. Our milk stays cold but does not freeze. Guess you can tell why we ditched the Kenmore!
HOWEVER, the ice maker is slow and of low capacity. Perhaps four glasses of ice water is all you'll get at one time. If you don't use the ice maker for two or three days, the ice all sticks together and the dispenser won't dispense ice at all very annoying. Then you have to dump the ice container into the sink and start over. The water dispenser is even worse. While I appreciate the idea that this is supposed to make filling a pitcher possible, we get water on the floor all the time even family members that use it frequently. We also have a lot of guests, and when they use the water dispenser, we see a puddle on the floor 100% of the time, until they've used it three or four times.
The ice maker and water dispenser absolutely are completely annoying extremely poor design (water dispenser) and engineering (ice make and dispenser) so much so that this otherwise fine product may not last as long as the Kenmore in our home. One star for the ice maker/dispenser and water dispenser gets no stars at all.
As far as noise goes this unit is very quiet, except that it has a very low frequency, and noticable, hum. Four stars for noise.
Finally while the water filter seems to work really well, the price of the water filter is way out of line approximately $35. The manufacturing cost of this should be under $1 shame on LG for their pricing! One star for the filter price.
I purchased this fridge one month ago. I have had a service person in my home five times and it is still not working properly. My unit will not cool properly, when the tech placed a thermometer in the unit it shows a temp of 45 degrees, eventhough I have lowered the controll to 33 degrees. I spoke with the service company today and was informed that a mother board is being order for my unit. LG told me that they would call me as soon as they had spoken with the technican. I am still waiting on that call. Since having this problem I have research this unit and found alot of bad reviews for the unit and LG. My sister-in-law bought the 31 cubic ft. and had to return it because of problems. One good thing is I did buy the extended warranty from the company where I purchased unit. Save your money and time do not purchase this unit.
E. J. Tastad's review of this product is accurate and appropriate, but I would like to add some additional information. I bought this GE Profile microwave oven in March of 2006 on the recommendation of Consumer Reports. In September 2009 I am sorry to report that I had to throw it out because it wasn't worth repairing. Consumer Reports gave this GE model their top rating for large microwave ovens. It replaced an old Amana RadarRange that I had used for about 25 years before it burst into flames. The Amana had also received Consumer Reports top rating back then. If I recall, my Amana sold for about twice as much money (in 1981 dollars) as this GE costs in 2006 dollars.
Since this microwave oven is more powerful, faster and consumes more electricity than small models, you may need to have a dedicated 20 ampere outlet available for its use. Compared with my old Amana, the GE has a much more uniform distribution of heat when cooking or reheating, probably because the food is rotated on a turntable. As E. J. Tastad found, the defrost cycle is easy to use, gives good distribution of heat and the front panel controls are fairly intuitive. The stainless steel cabinet is attractive and easy to clean.
Unlike my old Amana, this oven cannot multi-task. For example, if you're running the built-in clock timer, you cannot cook or reheat something on a different schedule using different functions. You must stop the clock timer to begin a cook cycle and vice versa. You also cannot program several sequences of automatic operations as my old Amana could accommodate, nor can you program it to start at a later time.
This microwave oven was not as reliable and did not last nearly as long as my old Amana did. The magnetron tube in my GE Profile microwave oven failed after two years of use. It's replacement was covered by the five-year GE warranty on the tube, but the warranty didn't cover the $85 in labor charges, which would have been even more if I had received the service on-site instead of taking the appliance to the appliance repair depot. After 3 1/2 years of use, (September 2009) the main circuit board self-destructed. It cost me $44 at the nearest GE repair facility to learn that it would cost me more than another $200 to replace the microwave oven's circuit board.
Since other brands of similar-sized and power microwave ovens cost less than the repairs, I have discarded this microwave oven after 3 1/2 years and after spending $129 in diagnostic and repair charges in addition to the purchase price. Given this experience, I now be hard-pressed to recommend this appliance considering its cost-of-ownership and short life. This appliance should have lasted much longer. It did not get heavy use and was never misused or abused.
When I contacted GE about my failed microwave oven, they promised to make things right, asked for the model and serial number and requested that I cut off the appliance's power cord and plug and send it to them. They then sent me a $100 rebate check that could be applied ONLY to another GE appliance purchase. The check expired before I found another GE appliance that I wanted to own.
I bought a replacement, which was a Panasonic model NN-SD978S microwave oven for less than $200 from Sam's Club. It is just as large, cooks faster and has proven to be far more reliable. After four years, it's still going strong without need for repairs.

Bottom Line: This is an excellent large microwave for countertop use. The inverter defrost works almost perfectly every time, never cooking my food more than it should, but the reheat is a gimmick.
This is a large countertop microwave, at about 2.2 cubic foot. Coming from an over-the-range microwave this is a huge improvement in size. The microwave heats uniformly and fast (it is 1200 watts). The sensor reheat should only be used on foods it is safe to boil, otherwise it overcooks about everything else. It also works best when you lightly cover the food, as sometimes uncovered food triggers it to turn off too early. Lightly covered is critical, as the sensor works off water vapor temperature being released from the product. If the water vapor cant leave the container it could become superheated. Sensor cook should also only be used under supervision (you should be in the same room).
I have had the microwave for about 6 months now with no issue. It is no louder than other microwaves I have used, and the controls are intuitive and easy to use. You do not have to press a cook button or anything to start your timed cooking. My favorite feature is the inverter defrost. Remember you enter the weight in pounds, so for an 8 oz pack of bacon you would enter "5" and "start" for 1/2 of a pound. If you had a 1.5 pound package of meat, you would enter "15" and "start" for 1.5 pounds. The display shows the weight correctly. Not much else to say about the product, it is a microwave after all.
Update: To improve "sensor reheat" performance, use a lid over the food with a vent hole. I use a paper plate with a small hole (finger tip size) punched in it. This will make sure the reheat stays running long enough, but still gets some water vapor to judge the food temperature by so it doesn't over cook.
Update (6/26/2010): I have been using the microwave 2 years now. It has been no issue and still works perfectly. I use the sensor reheat almost all the time for soups and casseroles, and use the inverter defrost for my frozen goods. I also use the "popcorn" button to heat microwave popcorn bags. Everything has been working great!
Update (7/26/2011): Still going strong. I use the inverter regularly for defrost, or lowering the power level to cook something slower. It has worked well for me, and I think problems might be from shipping, quality control, or some other factor.
Update (3/21/2013): Still going strong, but maybe a bit noisier now. No issue with inverter function or anything.
I am very disappointed at the poor reliability of this unit. Ours is less than a year old and has failed--now, when attempting to cook, the unit shuts off before the end of the programmed time. Even though the light comes on and the turntable turns, the unit does not heat food. Like others, I purchased this unit based on the recommendation in Consumer Reports; this recommendation didn't pan out. I tried to schedule warranty service and GE is making us wait a week to schedule and their frustrating telephone system does not provide information on where I can take it for service for faster turnaround (and didn't put me in touch with a live representative).
When the microwave oven worked, it worked fine. We replaced a Sharp unit with this one; though this unit has the advantage of a larger capacity, its controls are less intuitive.
Based on poor reliability and poor service, we're certainly not going to buy another GE microwave. We've had good success with GE refrigerators in the past; this is very disappointing. A quick search on the web now reveals that GE microwave ovens are not reliable--many others appear to have similar problems with the magnetrons.
Perhaps this is one reason why GE is looking to sell its appliance business...
I purchased this microwave in December 2006. On September 9, 2009 it totally went out. My problem seems to be the same as others are describing in these reviews a problem with the inverter technology or "inverter board." It has poor reliability and a high failure rate. The inverter technology is great while it lasts, but the oven goes out after a couple of years. Since it is past the 1-year warranty, it is my tough luck. I called GE Customer Service to get them to recommend an authorized repair facility in my town. The representative was unbelievably rude claiming that my only option was for them to send one of their technicians to my house. That was not an acceptable solution because: 1) It was way too expensive for a home visit, and 2) I could not take a day off work (and lose a day's pay) to be there. It would be less expensive to just purchase another microwave.
Needless to say, after this experience, I will never purchase another GE microwave or any other GE product based on how rude the customer service representative was to me. I thought GE was supposed to be a quality brand? My previous (much less expensive) microwave lasted 15 years and it wasn't even supposed to be a quality brand (a Sharp). I strongly advise against purchasing this microwave. When you pay that much for an appliance, it should last more than two years. It seems GE is engaging in a very unethical business practice. So many people are experiencing the same problem I did. GE has to know these ovens go out after a couple of years. Then they try to suck you into giving them more money to repair or replace them and they try to manipulate you into those expensive home service calls. I think we should all boycott GE.
Recently remodeled my kitchen and picked this unit based mostly on looks. I use a microwave mostly for warming up a cup of coffee or the occasional pizza slice (very light use). After owning it for just 45 days, it started smoking and then just cut off it's power while reheating some pasta. Fortunately I was able to return this piece of junk and get a refund. After doing a quick search on the web, I've heard of this exact same problem happening to other unhappy GE customers. One person claimed it started a fire. I have don't know if this is possible, but my GE microwave produced quite a bit of smoke before it turned itself off.
good water filter. works well for ice maker, i have a separate system for water filtration. but if i drink the water from the frige it tastes fine. would recommend this product.

The water dispenser from our GE Monogram refrigerator had become maddeningly slow in the five years since I last replaced the filter -presumably because the filter was full of impurities, although our water supply is extremely high quality. The new filter has increased the flow dramatically and was easy to install.
These GE replacement filters work just fine, but at $40 each, a bit pricey. Yes, I know that they do more than my car's auto filter, but when I can get an entire oil change for $25... it just makes you think twice about spending so much on water.
I wanted a clear housing grit filter and could not find it anywhere. Amazon to the rescue. While I would have preferred the inlet and outlets to have been smaller, I bushed them down to 3/4 and the unit works great. Just what i needed, when i needed it and priced right.
I have had it for two years now and it easily solved the grit problems I was having. If valved properly on the install, cleaning the screen is a snap. My faucet cartridges and fill valves have needed NO attention at all since this install. I flush it every month or so and clean the screen quarterly. I put some "O" ring lube before I re-assemble and only hand tight.
After going thru numerous fabric filters that couldn't keep up, our water tech installed one of these to combat heavy sediment, sand and even large specs of iron in our well water. He installed a timer to allow it to auto purge a couple of times each day. This original filter has lasted and worked well for over 12 years saving untold damage to our downstream water softener. About once a year, I remove and manually clean the filter to extract any sediment that gets locked in the mesh. When the $ 500 timer failed, I replaced it with a $ 50 water bird irrigation timer that has worked flawlessly for 5 years. Very happy with and dependent on this tool.
This filter system is easy to install and easy to use. We just turn the bottom and empty the sediment into a bucket. My only problem is the filter. It doesn't stop small sediment very well and we needed to replace the filter after just 3 months. I expected it to last 6 months at least.
If you have moderate to heavy sediment, this is not for you. In fact, if you can spell sediment this is not for you. The idea behind the unit is great, but unfortunately it doesn't work. Sediment filtration is poor at best and the material that passes as a filter can easily come unglued decreasing the units limited effectiveness. As a $19.99 TV special, with 3 extra thrown in for those who order in the next 30 minutes, I might say give it a try, if only as a lesson not to believe everything you see on the box.
With filter systems that actually work starting around $35, this $53 price tag is ridiculous. So, if you still decide to buy one, buy mine. Slightly used and definitely broken
I purchased this unit, installed it under my counter with a few inches all around for ventilation. It took two days to approach temperature and struggles when the room temp is over 75 degrees.
After 14 months the LED failed. I paid $38 for a replacement, which was sent without instructions. Edgestar service said, "I think it might just pop out." It actually is screwed in from behind.
By 15 months, I went to get a both of white wine from the 53 degree side to find it was about 80 degrees. Now neither side cools. Edgestar customer service couldn't guess what was wrong. They suggested, "Try Googling small appliance repair and your ZIP code." I was unable to find anyone familiar with repair of thermoelectric units. I should have suspected something with a cooling unit warranty of only 90 days parts & labor and 12 months parts. Anyone want a room temperature wine storage unit? It is pretty nice looking.
I bought this product largely because it was the most visually appealing (i assumed they all were equally capable of cooling wine) and after about a year of ownership, half of the wine refrigerator broke and no longer cools the wine. It also makes a buzzing sound which is incredibly annoying and probably a fire hazard. I called Edgestar which was completely useless and could offer me no help. They actually had the nerve to tell me to find a local servicer on my own. Since i had no other alternatives, I decided to give it a shot and called 8 of them. Nobody would service an Edgestar product nor do an assessment of the issue so i could get reimbursed from my warranty company...which is another saga. The warranty services company is called Repairmaster. After approx 10 calls in to them, 4 promised call backs from supervisors that never happened i finally gave up and decided to just scrap the wine refrigerator and buy another one (they claim i'm going to receive a payment but as of this date it hasn't happened and i'm not holding my breadth). I'd also yield a note of caution on the website where i bought the product Compact Appliance since they obviously don't check into the products they are willing to sell or select warranty servicing companies that can deliver on a contract. All of these companies are relatively small and will undoubtedly be out of business if this level of product quality and service continue. PLEASE LISTEN TO MY ADVICE AND SAVE YOURSELF THE HEADACHE!!! I WASTED HOURS ON THIS!!! THIS IS THE FIRST REVIEW I'VE EVER WRITTEN IN MY LIFE --THAT IS HOW BAD AN EXPERIENCE IT WAS!!!
Really classy look and arrived quickly, but does NOT live up to its advertised performance as one side will not hold the set temp. Manufacture acknowledges half is busted, but warranty only works if YOU pay to ship it back. Looks like EDGESTAR is having customers final test each unit.
it have limted tenperatures (you can not go over 46 and 52 as limits) and it never stop runing. It is noise. Otherwise it keeps the wine in good temperature for a energy price.
We purchased this wine fridge about three years ago and it worked great until just recently. A couple of weeks ago, it started a low grade hissing sound and just today we discovered that one side is not cooling. In fact, it feels very warm on that side. Obviously, we are well beyond our warrantee period so all we can do is try and call the manufacturer to see if there is anything we can do to fix it. We aren't feeling very hopeful. In any case, while it worked for 3 years, we don't believe that is a good return on an investment of $450! Our advice is: if you are going to splurge on a wine fridge, spend a little more money and get a reputable brand that will last longer.
The filters fit and at first the water tasted fine. After about the 4th week of use, the water tasted worse than not using any filter at all. In fact the water tasted awful. I noticed these were made in China and my next filter will either be made in the U.S. or Canada.
[Updated 3/11/13] I lowered my ranking from two stars to one. I had ordered two of these and after the first one went bad, I put in the second. The second filter only worked for a little over a week and then the water had a foul taste. Because the unfiltered water in our house doesn't taste bad like that I can only assume that something has been put in this filter that is not good. Whatever it is taints the taste of the water. I have thrown it away and will never buy one of these filters again.
The filter worked for 2 weeks, then the fridge warning came on to say replace the filter. Our other one worked for 6 months.
This item works as a replacement for my fridge water filter. I did notice that the filter light does not go off though. So I think this may be missing some sort of sensor to control the filter light.
This filter is obviously made for different models. It was a little difficult to install (took 3 times to get it seal and sprayed the inside of the fridge each time). Once installed it seems to work well and isn't leaking. I'll probably order the original next time.
