Koldfront 43 Quart 12V DC Portable Fridge Freezer

Product shipped none working on AC and DC power. It looked like a used product when it arrived to my house. The DC cable was without connector and looked like it had been previously cut. The handles on the side of the unit broke off just taking it out of the box and couldnt even support its own weight. Took over two weeks to get them to take a return on a unit that shipped not working. Then when they got the unit back stated the cord was cut and I had to pay for a replacement and return shipping. Cost me almost $100 bucks to send something back that didnt work when I got it. Bad product and bad company to deal with.

Chose this cooler because it claims to hold 80 bottles. No way it can hold that many. At 11 bottles per rack times 6 racks does not equal 80 or close to it. Being dual control, since I prefer reds to white wine, this cooler cannot be regulated to a constant same temp on top and bottom shelves. Therefore, my reds on the bottom shelves are much cooler on bottom shelves than on the top shelves. The compressor is also a little noisey.

But the cooler has nice appearance.

We just received our first (and last) purchase of the Swift SGF-W41 replacement filter today. After following the install instructions precisely, including the 15 minute minimum water pre-soak and then flushed the filter with 2-3 gallons of water. After reading the product description prior to purchasing, I was really looking forward to trying this filter which replaces my more expensive Whirlpool/KitchenAid 8171414.

I'm very disappointed that the water tasted exactly the same as it does coming out of our unfiltered faucet tap water. There was absolutely no noticeable reduction in the Chlorine smell or taste. I had my other family members sample the water and all of us could not tell the difference between our unfiltered tap water and water that had passed through the SGF-W41 filter.

We were really hoping that the quality of water would be at least equal to the Whirlpool/KitchenAid 8171414 which we usually use, unfortunately it is not. In fact our six month old Whirlpool/KitchenAid 8171414 filter still does a much better job at removing the chlorine odor and taste from our water than this brand new Swift SGF-W41.

I was really hoping to be able to write a positive review for this product, but as already mentioned based on our experience I can not. I guess we'll have to pay the extra $$ to purchase another Whirlpool/KitchenAid 8171414.

*** UPDATE: The seller (Global Shop Stop) referred me to the manufacturer (Swift Green Filters). I emailed the manufacturer and also spoke with one of their customer service reps. They sent me a replacement SGF-W41 since he believed that the carbon block probably cracked during shipment. I'm happy to report that the replacement filter works fine. He also informed me that some of their earlier manufactured SGF-41's had carbon blocks that didn't entirely fill the plastic housing, thus allowing the tap water to bypass the carbon block filter. I also found out that the carbon made out of carbonized cocounut shells can be more brittle than traditional carbon blocks used in the original Whirlpool/KitchenAid 8171414 filters. Since the carbon blocks made of cocunut shells are more brittle, I would strongly recommend that the seller packages them with some cushioning material in a second outer box. They shipped mine just in it's original packaging wrapped only in a USPS shipping envelope. They should double box these with padding or at a minimum use a padded mailer to help avoid cracking the carbon block during shipment. ***

In choosing a wine cellar/cooler I bought the largest model I could get with some style, and price was important, so Danby got my business.

Here's a little info good and bad on the unit I got (and note that I am happy with the unit and would recommend it, but I'm also not blind to the shortcomings which would certaily affect other's decisions) :

+ Danby DWC612BLP from BigBuyCity on eBay (for example current item on 10/23/2006 #180041697894) for $488+$129.90(shipping)=$617.90 (pretty good deal for 75 bottle system...(was $600 total a few months ago but I see they raised the shipping so a bit more)

+/Freestanding (not a build-in) which is what I wanted, and the "BLP" model has the coils on the back of the unit. I think that they make another one that has the coils underneath so you can put it up closer to a wall.

Stupidly noisy compressor. It's a small little Samsung model...but I don't know why it is not more quiet (it might be the system design not the compressor I can't tell). No issue for me as it is in the kitchen, but if you have a very quiet house you may have an issue with this. Absolutely Not for a bedroom.

Took about 4 weeks to get (This was expected since it has to be trucked in, so just a pain that there were no local dealers and closest next-state in-store retailer wanted $900+ ! )

+ real wood shelving, sealed, solid, and can take the weight

It's a bit tight inside, although two shelves can be taken out for more room and allows you to stack bottles on top of each other.

+ Styling is quite good for the price. Typical black metal sides, and nice glass door.

+ The door is built SOLID. Double-pain tempered glass, UV protect, good seal (I had to reverse the door, and this thing is heavy !)

-/+ Door glass is not tinted (but it has UV protection, however no general light protection, and the "platinum" trim is actually a type of, what looks to be, solid color plastic. Still looks good and has a solid feel to it...Not flimsy

NO childproof door lock (Take careful note of this if you have kids!). Guess they had to save money somewhere.

+ energy efficiency is Quite good. Since I bought it, it averages 0.75KWH per day set at "59F" (the warmest setting) in a 78 degree kitchen. (so less than $42 a year to run at $0.15 KWH electricity cost). And for those that care about such things, the unit has a Power Factor of 0.93 which is very good...almost looks like a resistive load to the power grid (so very little wasted power).

+ has a basic but nice digital temp control panel and incandescent light pod. Of course if you have a fully stocked unit, the light at the top doesn't help much. Replace the low wattage bulb with a small fluorescent or white LED type if you want to keep the light on all the time (to keep the heat generated from the light down).

+/Temp variance of 3 degrees once the unit is fairly full. Not too bad I think, but would have been improved if they had a small circulation fan. On the good side you can put whites and roses on the bottom shelve as it stays cooler than the setting (thermostat is in the top control panel / so takes the temp form the top/warmest place).

Very stupid: if there is a power outage the thing looses it's memory and the temp goes back to a factory preset ! Whoever heard of a modern day digital appliance not remembering the last setting? Well, they had to cut corners somewhere to keep the price down I guess...

+ Mine was missing the "humidity reservoir" (little plastic container), but a quick fax of my purchase info to Danby and they got me one in no time. So GOOD service from Danby at least on this small issue.

Hope this helps. There are not too many reviews about this model, and very few cooler manufacturers publish the energy consumption, which on mine I was actually able to measure and monitor for this review. Danby did a good job producing a cheaper large cooler with some tradeoffs. The biggest concern would be the noise and the lack of a LOCK.

I am pleased with this wine cooler. My collection had grown to the point where I needed somewhere temp regulated to store my wine.

PROS

* As mentioned by others, the unit is very nice looking; especially with the wooden shelves.

* Freestanding with rollers on the back to make it easy to move if needed

* Door is very solid and seals well with the magnetic strip

CONS

* Noisy ... I was planning on putting this unit in the garage anyway but if you are thinking about putting in the house, might want to reconsider.

* The spacing between the rows of bottles is very VERY tight. Couple this with the fact that the shelves do not slide out and you have a difficult time seeing what is on each row. I ended up buying bottle tags.

* I've not had the problem of the temp setting resetting itself on power loss but if that would happen, that would suck.

I bought the Danby Cooler through another retailer in Houston, and got a great deal. It looks nice, has good storage, but is definitely a bargain cooler.

1st) The temperature varies by about + or 5 degrees, for a total fluctuation of 10 degrees! I think this is a non-issue for the average wine, but I think it would likely not be best for real collectors.

2) Noisy compressor.

3) Shelves not easy to slide, etc. Wooden shelves look nice, though.

4) Overall, a great bargain buy.

We've had this unit for almost four years now. It's worked quite well since day 1. We put a temp and humidity recorder in the unit and it's been fairly consistant with temp, and humidity has been averaging about 50%. Not bad for a cooler that really has no humidity control. Koolatron P65 Kargo 12v Portable Cooler

My Kargo Kooler arrived damaged in a dented box without any interior packing materials. The lid doors were warped and a little loose, a screw was missing from a hinge, the cheap plastic lid latch did not work properly, and I could not use this cooler vertically as a "refrigerator" because the heavy bottom door sagged badly. Perhaps attaching the heavy cooling unit to a lid door is a design flaw of this model.

The Kargo Kooler arrived a day before a 1600-mile road trip: I tested it en route to the Deep South in April as a chest cooler for exotic cheeses and a frozen pork roast, plugged into a socket in the cargo area of my Subaru Forester. I also splurged for the the optional AC adapter so I could plug it in at hotels. It cooled things superbly, despite lid problems. Yes, it may be a bit noisy in quiet office/home environments, but I did not notice its hum above road noise or the loud blasts of heating/cooling in highway hotel rooms.

My unit was obviously damaged from shipping, so I'm returning it to Amazon for a refund. Just check the lid covers and hinges very closely for damage and/or defects if you order this item.

I liked this enough to give Koolatron a second chance: I just ordered Koolatron's slightly smaller rolling mini-fridge model which may better suit my needs, has an adjustable thermostat, and should tuck away nicely and discreetly under the cargo area blind of my Subaru.

I got this as a sort of "extra" frig for drinks in the summer. However, it freezes up easily and can't be adjusted for temperature. It is lightweight and portable, working well for a drink chest for parties.

Also, the plug in that comes with it was missing. It only plugs into a car outlet--I had to buy the adapter to use it in the house.

Given the choice, I'd probably go with a small refrig that adjusts temperature. However, again, I like the portability of this product.

Used this on my road trip, it did great keeping all my food and drinks cold. Even when driving through the hot desert of 90 degree weather, it did cool down below 40 degrees from outside temperature, so it was 50 degrees inside cooler for our food. Warmer does great, can use up to 4 hrs maximum. Either cooler or warmer, plug into 12v lighter when car is running or will drain your car battery. It stays cool when at picnic and cannot plug cooler in.

Only concern is when fans running, its loud inside the car. When driving the road noise blends it out. After awhile you don't even think about it. Not too bulky in the backseat. Easily used seat belts to help hold it down when driving, such as around corners. Greatly recommend this cooler/warmer. My friend had a different brand and didn't work well. This one is a great portable fridge. Plus bought adapter from Amazon.com to use at hotel rooms, plug right in to wall outlet.

The hinge on the door was broken on arrival even though the packaging was not damaged. It seems like the double door concept with the heavy cooler mechanism on the door put a lot of stress on the plastic hinge. Good concept, but poor execution. We purchased a Maytag refrigerator in July of 2012. It quit working in October. Maytag repairman did not have the replacement compressor that was needed. Home Depot brought us another refrigerator 10 days later. That refrigerator worked until the beginning of May 2013 (7 months later). Home Depot brought us another refrigerator 7 days later. We contacted Maytag after we received the new refrigerator and they were not willing to send us any compensation for aggravation or loss of food. Their customer service to say the least is non-responsive. We will never buy another Maytag refrigerator and we tell everyone we know not buy a Maytag refrigerator. Maytag had to know these refrigerators were defective and they should have recalled them. Home Depot Appliance manager told us there were multiple customers who had issues with these refrigerators.

There are many manufactures of appliances and our advice would be not to buy maytag!

Maytag products feature parts that fail faster than light bulbs. You won't have to change the light bulbs inside this fridge because the switches will fail first, or else the circuit boards. Expect to pay for this refrigerator a second time in repair bills. Maytag does not provide any service information so that you can swap out something simple like a door switch. Onsite repairs by service techs will cost you hundreds of dollars for $25 parts. I'm an electrical engineer and all I need is a service manual and I could fix this machine myself. Maytag won't provide me with any support. Their attitude is to screw you and make it as painful as possible.

I will never buy a Maytag product again. Don't make the mistake I made. Choose a competing product with good reviews.

Unfortunately, I found out the hard way that the refrigerator I bought had many flaws. One of them is the door racks in the refrigerator area. I have had to replace all of them except the top one, in about 4 years. Not realizing that Amazon might have them (silly me! Amazon has everything!!), I purchased the bottom and middle rack from someone else. The bottom rack never quite fit and I contacted the seller, who let me know that they don't offer a money back guarantee and that if I wished to have it replaced I needed to pay to return and then they would "evaluate." We found a way to make it fit, but, in about a year, it broke. Thus, began another search.

I had my item within a week, it looks like and fits like the original. If I ever need to replace any parts, I will first look on Amazon, and to this seller.

I purchased this refrigerator for my office. It is to be shared by a group of 5 people, so I wanted one that was a little bigger than the typical compacts. I paid for overnight deliverly as others had suggested. The unit arrived in a box that had been previously opened. I was a bit worried when I removed the item from the box. It had some large dents on the side, but was otherwise ok. Once I plugged it in, I realized there were bigger issues. The motor was very loud and was cycling constantly. It would run for seven minutes and then would be off for four minutes, then on for seven, off for four yes I actually timed it. Everytime the unit came on it startled me. At first I thought that once the motor broke in, that it would become quiet. That did not happen. After having the unit for 24 hours and spilling a cup of coffee on my desk from my rattled nerves, I called Amazon for a replacement unit.

The new refrigerator arrived the next day. Once again, it arrived in a box that had previously been opened. The replacement had a large dent on the door, but otherwise works great. It is so quiet. I barely notice it when the motor is running. What a difference! I actually check it on occasion to make sure that it is working because I don't notice it at all. I switched doors with the first refrigerator and now I have a unit that has no significant dents and it doesn't interrupt my work environment. The actual refrigerator is nice looking and has a lot of interior space. After the experience with the first one, I am a bit concerned about the reliability, but for now, I am satisfied.

Well I hate to be the one to leave a bad review, but I must. My husband and I bought this fridge and received it 2 wks. ago. Yesterday, my husband noticed that it was not making any noise and realized that the insides of the fridge were no longer cool. The compressor was so hot that it could not be touched. We unplugged it and let it cool down and thought that it would maybe come back to life. No such luck! It's dead.

I have requested to send it back but I no longer can find the packaging slip so that I have the address to send it back to. We will see how returning it goes, but for that kind of $$. I just hope that they take it back and give me a refund.

This was a replacement for one we had in the garage (man den). It's actually better because it has more space to store beverages and it seems to keep them much colder. I'm very happy with this fridge.

The first one came in damaged (most likely during shipping). The box had several holes in it and there were dents in the door, top and side of the unit. I called Amazon the next day and they were great in handling the replacement and the return of the damaged one, they sent the replacement out right away. I think we had it two days. Amazon arranged for UPS to pick the damaged one back up and said that UPS would call me to schedule a pickup.

The only thing negative thing (which really isn't that bad) is that although I was told that UPS would call me to schedule a pick up, they never did. I then received an email from Amazon saying that I only had a few days left to return it or I would be charged again. I immediately contacted them and told them that UPS never called and they handled it again right away. UPS never called to shedule a pick up again. However they did finally leave a pick up tag at my door one day saying that the next day would be their 3rd and final attempt! I didn't even know they did a 1st and 2nd attempt.

I have to say that Amazon's Customer Service has really been great!

When it arrived, the box was open and torn. As soon as we opened the box the rest of the way, the top of the fridge was very obviously dented in, we're talkin a good inch and a half dented. But since it's for our bar area we decided to keep it. It has a lot of space and gets cool quickly, but does make a bit of noise. I probably wouldn't buy from this company again though. For it to be that damaged when it arrived doesn't bode well for durability.

We haven't used our filters yet but the purchase went great and we received the filters very quickly. The only thing I did notice is that the filters only filter 250 gals. instead of 300 to 400 gals. like some of the name brands. But this was my fault for not looking for the conparison. I'm sure they will work just fine and I will send a review when we do use them.

Avanti WCR683DZD-2 149 Bottle Dual Zone Wine Cooler

I bought this model (WCR683DZD) about 5 years ago. It worked great for the first three or four years. Then, I left the door just slightly cracked two times in the last year. Both times, I found a puddle of water outside the chiller the next morning. Then, about three months after the second time the door was left cracked open, it just stopped working and displayed an E4 error code. I've spent hours searching for any documentation on the cost of fixing this item or steps for repairing the item. I found only two different answers, but neither offers much detail. I called for service and waited, and waited, and waited on hold with no response. Finally, I gave up. Currently, I am considering writing this unit off as trash and buying a competing unit from a reputable company that stands behind its products.

This is the same shelf that my Whirlpool side-by-side refrigerator/freezer has and for less than online parts stores. I ordered this with a refrigerator door compartment and was glad to see the items combined for one $5 shipping charge instead of two charges for $10. The refrigerator/freezer had room for these and we needed this extra storage space that Whirlpool conveniently left out. Very happy with purchase.

Koolatron - Koolatron Voyager Cooler

Before retiring I drove a tractor trailer cross country for over 20 years, and used a Koolatron chest cooler nearly all that time. When on the road it would be on 24/7 sometimes for weeks at a time, with very few problems. Koolarton has been around for a long time and makes a great cooler. This cooler is a Canadian product, and still made in Canada to my knowledge. These things work great if you use them properly. Unless you are willing to wait a long time for things to cool down, you must cool items down before putting them in the cooler The colder the better). Also if you cool the inside of the cooler first, that would help even more. That's where a AC/DC converter would come in handy to cool the frig in your house before you place it in your vehicle. This type cooler is extremely slow at cooling down warm items, but great at keeping cold items cold.

A trick I learned when in my truck was to bungee my cooler on the passenger seat and direct my AC vent at the fan side of it, that would keep it super cold inside even on one of those 100+ degree days they get around Phoenix AZ. CAUTION:::Everything will start to freeze in there doing this if you don't watch it and open the door regularly. On a hot day with the sun shining on the cooler its a good idea to keep it covered " Newspaper works " to keep the sun off of it. Note::: Keep everything away from the fan, air needs to circulate in that aria. Also don't pack the food to tight in the cooler, air needs to circulate there also.

I have never had an occasion to used it to heat or keep food hot. But I guess if you wanted to transport hot food to Grandma's or a friends house this would work quite well since it does get quite worm in there. Caution !!! Make sure you know what cycle " Hot or Cold " you are on before you start on a road trip. I personally know it is very easy to have it set on heat when you thought it was on cold if you don't double check it.

This P-27 cooler is a medium sized cooler and has a 29 quart capacity, probably the best all around size for the average family. Two liter bottles and milk containers will stand up inside of it. They also come much larger such as the Coolatron P-95 cooler, with a 45 quart capacity. They even come larger than that, if you have a super large family like on some of those TV shows. Of course they come smaller also, I have one that is mentioned at the end of my review.

If traveling a AC/DC Converter is a must if you need to keep things cold in a motel, or for any extended stop that has a 110 Volt wall outlet. Using the converter with your travel frig at home for extra cold drink storage for company might come in handy also. The Black & Decker CV6B / Vector VEC004 / Travel Mate / Rubbermaid / 6.0 Amp AC/DC Converter will do the job nicely.

I would not let the cooler run with your engine off for much more than a couple of hours, " Enough time to stop for a long lunch or dinner while you are traveling but not to much longer " unless you are ready to have your car jump started. I don't know precisely how long your battery would last, that would depend on the condition and size of it. I do know I have left mine on for over 2 hours in my car with no problems whatsoever.

If used for very long periods of time, dust will accumulate around the fan aria and cut down on it's efficiency. Just remove the fan cover every 6 month's or so and clean out the dust if needed.

I still have a Koolatron chest cooler,that I use for longer trips. But I also have a smaller Black & Decker TC212B Travel Cooler & Warmer which also works well. I use this for day or weekend trips, when I don't have to take to much with me. Check out my review on it for more tip's. I purchased this cooler for my truck driver spouse in July 2010. Over the years, I have purchased numerous coolers for him and almost none of them last past a year. Warning signs of impending breakdown comes at about six months. So, when I was informed that, yet again, another cooler purchase was in order, I decided to do a bit of research to find a cooler that provides cooling along with durability; which, ended in me buying this item.

According to my spouse this is his best cooler so far.

Even when warm to the touch on the outside, inside is beautifully chilled.

Latch to lock cooler is easily knocked off when closing cooler. However, it is not difficult to reattach.

So, there you have it. I'll update this review on occasion to let everyone know the status of this product.

Update: July 2012-My spouse has been using this cooler for two years now. There's been no issues and it keeps chugging along keeping his food and drink items cold. I would highly recommend this product for anyone that is looking for a reliable cooler that is up for some heavy use.

I bought this cooler for our road trip to Myrtle Beach. I worked out well. I have a baby so I needed to bring lots of snacks, milk and juice for him. I was also able to bring grown up snacks as well. The cooler held everything nice and I still had tons of room for much more. If you have the space it's nice to keep in the car to keep food in when your out and about all day. I would highly recommend it to anyone!

Owned this cooler for just over a year, yes I did use it a lot as a truck driver. Fans have died making cooler / heater non operational and a possible fire hazard... when fans quit working the heat side of the exchanger got extremely hot to the point of way to hot to touch. If I had been away from the cooler for a significant amount of time it may have gotten to the plastic melting / fire stage.

As far as operation when it was working, 1-2 items close to cold air output would be nice and cold, rest of items in cooler are cool not cold. Also very ambient temperature dependent... EG: If you leave it on in winter < 40 Degrees your items will most likely freeze... in summer 3-4 hours to cool down a couple of items.

For Truck drivers the trick is to place the cooler where an A/C vent can blow on the cooler, works really great then.

Overall, cooler worked fine for my needs of cool drinks on the road, the short life span for the price however is a huge disappointment.

It does a good job keeping cold things cold. Slow to cool warm things, as expected. Koolatron's 3 amp rating is inaccurate for my P-27, which overloaded a 4 amp regulated power supply but is happy on a 5.5 amp regulated supply.

Supco Replacement for UKF8001 Refrigerator Filter

The filters fit and at first the water tasted fine. After about the 4th week of use, the water tasted worse than not using any filter at all. In fact the water tasted awful. I noticed these were made in China and my next filter will either be made in the U.S. or Canada.

[Updated 3/11/13] I lowered my ranking from two stars to one. I had ordered two of these and after the first one went bad, I put in the second. The second filter only worked for a little over a week and then the water had a foul taste. Because the unfiltered water in our house doesn't taste bad like that I can only assume that something has been put in this filter that is not good. Whatever it is taints the taste of the water. I have thrown it away and will never buy one of these filters again.

The filter worked for 2 weeks, then the fridge warning came on to say replace the filter. Our other one worked for 6 months.

This item works as a replacement for my fridge water filter. I did notice that the filter light does not go off though. So I think this may be missing some sort of sensor to control the filter light.

This filter is obviously made for different models. It was a little difficult to install (took 3 times to get it seal and sprayed the inside of the fridge each time). Once installed it seems to work well and isn't leaking. I'll probably order the original next time.

I had this item shipped to a friend in Colorado, who brought it to me in Mexico. I received it yesterday.

I was disappointed to see that the basket is too small to hang in my Frigidaire chest freezer. I will be able to use it, but not as intended, (as a sliding, hanging basket.). Although I have barely begun to use it, the plastic material from which is made is much less substantial than the two originals that came with the freezer.

This was easiest $150 dollars I ever saved. When the dryer started acting up, I went on line with the symtoms and after a couple of pages found a match. Said it was probably the switch so I went to Amazon to see if they had the switch. They did, for less than $10 so I took a chance and bought it. Took five minutes change it and it worked. Saved money and having to coordinate waiting for a serviceman. And to top it off my wife thought I was amazing.

GE appliances score lower than any other "major" brand in Consumer Reports reliability ratings, and now I know why. This switch is exactly what the seller claims it is (the OEM part), but it is a poorly designed part. The two-piece switch case quickly (one month this time) worked itself loose and arced, burning the contacts. Exactly as the previous two switches (from different sellers, trying to avoid a bad batch) did.
