Cuisinart DGB-625BC Grind-and-Brew 12-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker, Brushed Metal

I had an earlier version of the 10-cup Cuisinart Grind and Brew that lasted more than 3 years. It made an awesome pot of coffee. I read online reviews of this and similar grind and brews from Cuisinart that made me nervous that I wouldn't get as good a product as I had last time. I looked closely at other brands and other versions of grind and brews and decided based on my own experience with the last one I bought, I'd give this model a shot. So far I have not had any problems that other people have mentioned. Yes, there are more parts to take apart, clean and put back together than a regular coffee maker. But the superior taste of the coffee you get from the grind and brew is absolutely worth the extra couple minutes of prep time it takes. Besides, I was used to it from the previous model I owned. So that is not an issue. I read other reviews about the hinge not closing or popping open during the brew cycle, or leaking. I have not had ANY of those issues. NOTE: One reviewer said to read ALL the instructions carefully and follow the directions and that's what I did. Most important thing to remember here is you have to be sure to keep the handle of the gold filter basket facing the front of the coffee maker. Last I saw some reviewers complain of the noise as it grinds the coffee beans. This version of the grind and brew is noticeably more quiet than the last one I had, so no issue there either. All in all, I am VERY glad I purchased this product. I love it!

A very nice, straightforward coffemaker, makes good coffee with pre-ground beans, can be programmed to start when you want. A nice feature is that it can also be programmed to shut down when you want -either right after brewing or up to 2 hours later. A bit on the noisy side, even without the grinder function on. Initial setup is easy. Please note that if you do not close *and latch* the reservoir cover, the machine will beep constantly and not brew until you do. Drove me crazy for about 15 minutes until I noticed that the cover wasn't fully latched. Although it does tell you that in the instruction manual, it's not immediately evident -it's a line in the middle of lengthy instruction under #6 "Close Reservoir Lid", on page 8.

Update on Feb. 1, 2010

It was a learning curve to figure out how many scoops of whole beans to add for a good cup of coffee. A small scoop is included, with instructions to use one scoop per cup. However, the grind on this machine is fairly coarse, so it comes out a bit weaker than I'm used to. Adding a bit more each time took me over the top to "bitter," so it's hard to find a balance. I'm afraid I enjoy pre-ground coffee in this coffeemaker more than whole-bean.

Bought this unit for my wife for Christmas 2009. Liked the idea of a combo grinder and coffee maker. $100 at World Market, Houston. Get it cheaper now.

1. Also bought the gold filter basket (no brainer).

2. The unit makes great coffee.

3. The grinder is very loud. Loud enough to wake the household at 5am. I now purchase ground coffee and don't use the grinder in the coffee maker.

4. The filter basket sits in a swing out holder that is spring-loaded. There is a "release" button on the side of the unit. The door tends to pop open at very inopportune times, including while the coffee is brewing. This is an unacceptable glitch in the design. This gets the unit a 3-star rating from me.

I'm in the process of getting a replacement unit from Cuisinart. Even for $50, not worth the mess.

I am very pleasantly surprised by this machine. It replaced a 3 year-old Cuisinart grind-and-brew that just stopped working one morning. I intended to buy one of the expensive burr-grinder models from Capresso when I found this one on clearance at a warehouse club for fifty dollars. I figured for a quarter of the price of the Capresso it was worth a shot if I didn't like it I could always take it back. I am so happy that I tried it!

Compared to my old Cuisinart this one is much, much quieter. Don't get me wrong, it's still loud, but it's more like the sound of a truck driving by while my old one sounded like a jet engine taking off. I attribute the quietness to the much thicker grinding chamber on this model. I think it holds in place better, reducing the vibration noise. Maybe a burr grinder model would be quieter; I don't know. The burr grinders I have used make noise at a lower frequency so they sound different, but not necessarily quieter.

The coffee tastes great! The warming plate / glass carafe keeps the coffee hot enough for my taste. Might not be hot enough for some I don't like my coffee scalding hot. The grounds in the basket get well saturated during the brewing process, so you don't have to use an excessive amount of coffee beans to get a strong pot.

The only drawback is the need to clean the machine after each use. I'm used to it, because my old Cuisinart was the same way, but I can see the attraction of a burr grinder model that you don't have to constantly wash. The cleaning process is easy. Everything pops out easily and cleans up quickly, but there are several parts that have to be washed. The instructions say you can run the parts through the dishwasher, but when I did that with my old Cuisinart the plastic eventually developed a white residue that took a while to scrub off so I'm not going to use the dishwasher with this model.

Overall I am very happy with this purchase. It is inexpensive, relatively quiet, has good programming features, and makes a good pot of coffee. Having a 12-cup capacity is great!

I picked up one of these about 2 weeks ago. The unit was used, but it looks like it was hardly used.

First off, It is NOT A FRIDGE. It is a Cooler. The unit uses thermoelectric cooling. That means, instead of needing a lot of power to operate a conventional Cooling system with compressor, fan condensor, and evaporator, it uses a small computer sized fan, and a small chip.

The result is more interior space vs. a conventional unit, and get this... 65W power usage. Thats all.

Its not as good as a real fridge, but it will cool items inside (beer) 20-30 degrees below room temp. so if your house it 75, its going to give you a beer at 45.

The unit is very very quiet, and holds over a case of beer. I have mine right next to my couch, and I can't hear it run unless I really listin for it.

If you know what your needs are and a drink cooler is it, then I say save the watts and get this instead.

I keep this refrigerator in my back hall. It's purpose was to hold a few bottles of water so I wouldn't have to go into the kitchen with shoes that were dirty from doing yardwork. What a waste of money! The water is barely cooler than room temperature.

It's not cold at all. A bag of ice put in a plastic box is colder than this unit. Don't buy it!!!

Very poor buy

My son took it to college and didn't tell me it didn't work. Now it's too late Target wised up and stopped selling this piece of junk. I want my $100 back. Guess I'm sunk. All the other reviews got it right this thing does not get anything cold. Beverages might be safe, but food spoils. Goodbye, expensive cheese.

I bought this in anticipation of a concert at a popular outdoor venue near my house. Popped it in the freezer when it arrived. This was at least 1 week ahead of time! On the day of the concert, I put 2 CHILLED bottles of wine into the Packit. Less than 2 hours later we uncorked a cool bottle of wine. The 2nd bottle remained in the cooler for another 1.5 to 2 hours. This bottle was barely cool. The Packit barely kept the cool for 4 hours. That's a long way from the 10 hours promised! A huge let down!

I use this every week when taking the family on a picnic to the park. Its a bigger size and has removable insert so it fits a lot of food and doesnt have to be used with wine bottles. Keeps the fruit and yogurt cool for hours, even when it's 90 degrees outside!

I bought the EdgeStar 21 bottle wine cooler about a year ago. After 3 months, it stopped cooling and I had to replace the thermoelectric cooling element. EdgeStar was difficult to contact about replacement parts and required a number of hoops to get them to fulfill the free warranty part replacement. After installing the new element, it lasted only two months and failed and was no longer under any warranty. For an product that has no moving parts, EdgeStar warranty is horrible for parts and labor but given the reliability, I understand why. I wouldn't recomment this product to anyone and would never buy an EdgeStar product again.

The cooler arrived in a timely manner and it was easy to unpack. The only assembly required was a no-brainer! I found the correct dual zone settings on the Internet and setting them on the cooler was very simple. I am having so much fun experimenting with wines now that I have the capacity (21 bottles). My first bottle came out of the cooler (a white wine) and it seemed to be cooled to the temperature I like although I may set the temperature on top just a little cooler in the future. I Love this cooler and highly recommend it to all my friends.

Just received this for Christmas and am so far very happy with it. It's small enough to fit into the corner of my kitchen without being obtrusive. I already have a 8 bottle cooler but, that just wasn't big enough. Now between the two I have plenty of room. Holds standard wine bottles not the bigger bottom bottle like Pinot noir. But, not a big deal to me! Very sleek and modern looking. Love the dual temps two compartments also.

I needed a built-in unit to replace a trash compactor that I removed from my kitchen. The cost for a built-in wine fridge was rediculous. It turned out I have 3in or space to right of the unit and 1in on the left. The unit has been running perfectly. The reason I don't give it 5 starts is that its louder than I'd like. It not super loud, just louder than I'd like.

The cooler is very spacious and silent. The only trouble we have had was that one day the temperature changed by itself back to 54 F 54 F.

I am a fan of this dishwasher, I've had it for about two months now. It's quiet, has a sensor cycle, and apparently it's very energy efficient. What's great about the dishwasher is that it cleans very well when I use the sensor cycle. What's not so great?

The lower rack is not very versatile for different dish configurations. The top rack is much more flexible and can load a variety of dishes/bowls/cups. The lower rack seems reserved for large dishes and does not allow many different configurations.

Aside from that, and it's not really that big a deal this washer has been great and cleans exceptionally well. It's a good buy for the price (I got it for $500 at Sears). Even for six I think it would be a good deal.

Well don't buy on looks.

Maytag products feature parts that fail faster than light bulbs. You won't have to change the light bulbs inside this fridge because the switches will fail first, or else the circuit boards. Expect to pay for this refrigerator a second time in repair bills. Maytag does not provide any service information so that you can swap out something simple like a door switch. Onsite repairs by service techs will cost you hundreds of dollars for $25 parts. I'm an electrical engineer and all I need is a service manual and I could fix this machine myself. Maytag won't provide me with any support. Their attitude is to screw you and make it as painful as possible.

I will never buy a Maytag product again. Don't make the mistake I made. Choose a competing product with good reviews.
