Stainless-steel design, fully adjustable food and condiment shelves and a large freezer that easily glides open and closed with one hand are just a few of this Amana refrigerators nicest features. At only 18.5 cubic feet, this refrigerator is small enough to fit into even the most modest kitchens and yet its stunning looks makes it the centerpiece of the room.
Outer Design:
The freezer and refrigerator doors on the front are done with a elegant yet durable stainless-steel. Fingerprints are not easily seen, if at all. However you will notice any large smears that end up on the surface. A basic spray cleaner (like Windex) and a wipe with a paper towel will clean the doors easily and have them looking spotless again. The sides and the top of this Amana are a glossy black color, with a typical magnetic surface for pinning up magnets to the fridge.
At 18.5 cubic feet of space, with dimensions of 66 inches in height, 33 inches wide and a depth of about 30 inches, its small foot print makes this a great choice for those needing to conserve on space or with limited space available.
Interior design:
Don't let the small exterior design fool you, the inside is packed with space maximizing adjustable shelves, so you can make use of every inch of space. Each shelf is half the width of the interior, so you can either put two together and make a single long shelf or alternate them, making use of all the available room if you don't typically need to store tall items. Example: If you buy tall 2 liter bottles of soda you may want to space them for more height between them than you would for storing a 12 pack of soda that lies flat and long. You can set the shelves up so whether you're storing a sheet cake or a watermelon, it will all fit.
The built in door shelves are also all adjustable. You can arrange them so whether you're storing tall bottles of marinades or short little jars of jam, you can still maximize the space used by adjusting the height between them. There is a dedicated egg shelf that is a perfect fit for a carton of a dozen eggs (see photo in video). I prefer this over the typical "Dairy Center" in the doors that for years always was the home to eggs. Using those always risked the eggs falling out the little clear door. In this refrigerator, the Dairy Center is about 2/3rd the typical size, so a carton of a dozen eggs does not fit in it. But with the dedicated egg shelf (which can be used for other things if you wish), eggs will no longer need to fit into the Dairy Center shelf.
Additional Measurements:
The inside refrigerator measurements are about 35 inches high and 26 inches wide. The handles on both the refrigerator and freezer doors are also stainless-steel and both measure the same 27 inches long. The handle on the refrigerator is interchangeable with both the right and left side, so you can set the refrigerators door to swing out either direction you need it to. The two drawers in the bottom of the refrigerator (called Garden Fresh Crisper Drawers), both measure about 12 inches wide. These drawers have a lever on each of them that allows you to control how much or little humidity is kept inside each of them.
Freezer:
The freezer section of this Amana is located on the bottom, with an ultra smooth pull out design. It works more like a large built in drawer, rather than a door that opens and then pulling out a basket. The bottom basket of the freezer is attached to the door itself, so when opening it, the basket slides out with it. This basket is deep and wide. You can easily store a frozen turkey (or two) in this drawer. There is a removal divider placed in it so you to help with organization, however if you have no need for this divider, it is easily removed.
There is also a second basket in the freezer above the large main one. This one slides out when you pull on it, so you have the option to keep it in place and won't get in the way if what you're looking for is in the main large basket. This second small basket also has a small removable divider for organization. The tracks the freezer baskets are on are large, metal and substantial, and glide without any struggle.
Temperature:
The temperature controls for both the freezer and the refrigerator are locate on the inside top of the refrigerator, just in front of the light. They are digital and run on a scale of 1 to 7, with 7 being the coldest. The suggest temperature is 4 and both the freezer and refrigerator come preset to this. The digital thermostat has a very simple up and down arrow for using to scroll through to the number you would like the temperature set at, so this is extremely simple to use.
Delivery:
This refrigerator was delivered and installed through the JB Hunt delivery service, which is available through Amazon as well. When I first scheduled delivery, I was concerned that the very rural location of the town I live in would be a problem, but JB Hunt had no issues at all with delivering the item to my home. We live over 200 miles from their warehouse location, in a small town in the northern Minnesota, and they had no problem getting it here, even though most other delivery companies that are located much closer won't deliver to our location. Their deliver personnel are very friendly and professional, calling the day before delivery and also the day of, about an hour outside of town, to give the best possible idea of when they will be arriving. They take out the old appliance and either take it with them if you want to get rid of it, or relocate it elsewhere in your home. They then bring in the new appliance, unpack it, remove all packing materials, set it up and do any leveling that needs done. They then test it to make sure it works properly and have it ready for you to use right away. They pride themselves on high standards of customer service and I would use them again in a heartbeat for anything else I ever have delivered.
Conclusion:
The stainless-steel design of this Amana makes this refrigerator a stunning centerpiece of any kitchen. While its 18.5 cubic foot size allows it to fit in smaller spaces, the interior adjustable shelving design make the maximum use of all available space. The bottom freezers pull-out drawer design, that glides on sturdy tracks, makes getting items in and out of of it effortless. The digital thermostat is simple to use and quickly had all my foods cold as soon as I filled it. This Amana refrigerator is not only beautiful, but also well designed.

For weeks I was shopping for a refrigerator after buying a new house. I knew what features I did and did not want and was very lucky to select the fridge that suits my new home.
Two to three days after the order is placed you will receive a phone call from JB Hunt. They are a trucking company that also will deliver and set up/install the appliance. When the trucking company received notification of the order from Amazon, a woman called very early every morning for several days and when I tried to call the woman back, she had already left work by 4:00 p.m. (EDT). At first it seemed the other people who answered the phone would not help me and told me to call back when that particular woman was working. I even received an email from JB Hunt letting me know they were trying to contact me and I emailed them back stating I worked nights but would stay up to arrange delivery. Finally, when I was able to get it touch with JB Hunt, the woman who kept calling me was not in that day. However, the man who answered the phone, a trucker, said he would be happy to help me. He was very nice and professional. It seems the fridge was sitting in a big city about two hours from where I live and the man said they only deliver to my city once a week and put me down for the next day they were out here. The night before delivery I received an automated message with a wide time frame for delivery but was told I would be called when they were closer to the time of delivery. Sure enough, the next day a very friendly man called to say he was not far and would be delivering within 30 minutes and they showed up within the time frame. There were two men, both were professional and friendly. I have had a lot of appliances delivered through local brick and mortar stores and even though I received my appliances, the professionalism and friendliness was not even near JB Hunt. I would not hesitant to use them again; they really seem to care about customers.
My current refrigerator is a Maytag that was made in 2010, not old at all but had problems. The temperature was not consistent, the seal to the door was never sealed properly, and the freezer was noisy, but the worst was the shelves bowed after just a few months. A previous fridge I had was over a decade old and the shelves never bowed. The fridge this replaced is a top freezer one that had 21.0 cubic ft. I was scared with this one being 18.5 that it might not have enough room. I already have mine packed to the max. It is for a single household with a toddler. However, the Amana is so well laid out it fits everything I had in Maytag. I also love the fact that the fridge is up top. My toddler daughter loves opening the fridge and grabbing open cans and jars at the bottom, this one she can only slide open the freezer and grab boxes or bags of frozen items. The space is well laid out; Amana made sure that every inch was used and not wasted.
As others have stated this does not come with a water dispenser but I have never had one nor needed one. Also it does not come with an ice maker which I did not need. However, you can purchase an ice maker kit from the manufacturer to add to the freezer. Amana sells the kit on their website if having an ice maker is a deal breaker for you.
As with most refrigerators, the fridge area lights up. With past refrigerators I never had a freezer light. If you have never had a light in your freezer, you will never go back to not having one! All I can say is wow! I love the fact that the freezer lights up and I can see all of the contents! I was worried since I used the side compartments of my last freezer a lot and this freezer has the pull out drawers. I do not miss the side compartments and think the freezer looks a lot less cluttered and have noticed ALL the contents in the freezer are the same temperature -I used to have to place ice cream far in the back since the seal was bad and to place things that did not need much freezing in front and side, but not with the Amana, I can place things anywhere in the freezer.
Now that the refrigerator is placed in my new home, I can't stop looking at it. Straight on it looks `sexy' to me. The sides and top of the fridge are black but still have a sleek and sophisticated look. When opening and closing the fridge area, I can actually hear the door suction shut, which I have never heard with my older fridge.
I am so impressed with the Amana. I have never owned an Amana but my mother has this same fridge in white and loves hers! I am so impressed with the company that I decided the stove needed to be replaced in my new home. I am purchasing an Amana to match the refrigerator. My new stove is stainless steel and black to compliment the fridge. In the next few months I will be updating the dishwasher and it will be an Amana as well with the same colors.
I am impressed with the refrigerator enough to replace a current appliance with the same brand and colors! Once I have the stove installed I will be adding photos of the whole kitchen to show my new Amana kitchen, sans the dishwasher since it will be replaced at a later time.
July 25, 2012: Wanted to update my review. I am still so impressed with this fridge! It seals so well that I have a hard time opening the doors! My toddler has not been able to open either the freezer or the fridge doors so that is great for me. An added plus as well is my older fridge has the fridge on the bottom and I have a house cat. A lot of cat hair would get in the fridge, not sure how. I no longer have cat hair in the fridge or the freezer.
A few cons are it is a little bit harder to place ice trays in this since you have baskets and no shelves. I just make sure to place them in over night so they do not spill. Another is with the baskets, some items might not hold well in the freezer. If you open a bag of fries or hash browns, you might get a few pieces on your floors since only the basket is holding it when opening and closing, no freezer floor. Another thing I had to do was remove the two plastic dividers in the freezer. They were a pain to remove but now that they are gone, I can place boxes more easily inside and to my desire.
I ended up getting the smooth top Amana stove that matches the fridge for my new house. I love the stove. I was hoping to get the matching dishwasher but sadly it had very poor reviews on Consumer Reports. I went with another brand that matches the style of the fridge and stove though. I never owned Amana and now that I have two items in my kitchen, they are my favorite.

First off, let me say this is a great fridge and a great experience overall. First, some thoughts about the fridge:
1) The freezer is designed as a large "EasyFreezer Pull-out" bottom drawer. True to Amana's claim, my wife and I can open and close the drawer smoothly without much effort; further, we can see every item in the freezer with ease. In addition, organization has been simplified with its lower stationary dual baskets and upper glide-out wire drawer. Some good friends have a slightly larger LG bottom freezer fridge, and while it seems more roomy there's less space in the baskets. The Amana provides a lot of room.
2) The shelves of the interior of the fridge are all at eye-level, which makes taking items in and out convenient. This is such a wonderful plus, especially with a new born. The contents of the "Garden Fresh Crisper" drawers and everything on the easily adjustable shelves can be seen without difficulty. The "Spill-saver Glass Shelves" protect from messy over-splits (which seem to happen from time to time) and should make cleaning quite simple. The shelves have smooth edges without awkward parts.
3) The door opens with ease and its bins are solid and adjustable. In the model this new refrigerator replaced the bins were loose and did not hold things securely. The Amana has made them quite sturdy with the capability of placing them at whatever height that you want. We can have all items we wish at our finger-tips without the annoyance of something falling out on the floor!
This is our first stainless steel fridge, so I thought a con might be cleaning the stainless steel; however,Weiman Products LLC Stainless Steel Wipes (30 ea) lived up to its claim"cleans brightly and leaves no streaks!"
Do be sure to note the specific dimensions, not just what is given in the basic description. I was worried at first, after I noticed it was an inch too tall and wide--I thought I would have to do a bit minor cabinet work. However, the taller and wider dimensions include the pretty large hinge in front. What is in front doesn't affect a shelf that covers the back, so all fit perfectly.
The issue with buying it from Amazon, of course, comes in the shipping and delivery. We could not have been more pleased. It was expertly delivered to our mountain home, which isn't an easy task given a steep driveway and narrow stairs on our deck that lead to the front door. I was expecting them to say it was too difficult. They didn't.
They took out the old one, installed the new one, and took the old one taken away, all in less than 45 minutes!! I honestly was shocked they did it so well and smoothly with professional attitudes all the while. I honestly was a little skeptical about ordering a major appliance like this from Amazon, but I could not be more pleased.
Yes, we are truly pleased with our new Amana Refrigerator, and honestly, it really looks beautiful! It should serve our family's needs for many years to come. I highly recommend this refrigerator and purchasing it through Amazon.com.

Unfortunately we received a defective unit. I wish the installation guys would have checked that it worked when they plugged it in. Even though refrigerators take several hours to get cold (manufacturers claim up to 24 hours to reach desired temperature), it became quickly obvious (after they had left) that the fridge portion wasn't cooling at all (while, the freezer seemed to work fine, weird, eh?). Needless to say that it was a big hassle after having waited for a new fridge for a week. I contacted Amazon's customer service, which was impeccable as always, except for the fact that since the replacement and installation had to be coordinated with other vendors, I couldn't get a replacement unit until the next week at the earliest. I decided to take my money elsewhere and settled for a totally different fridge (better rated model in fact, and more efficient, eligible for PG&E rebate) that I was able to get installed (and working!) within 2 days (thanks, Lowes!). I was probably very unlucky but I can't say that I recommend Amana refrigerators after that. Try the Whirlpool Gold GB2FHDXWS instead: it's the top rated and recommended model with Consumer Reports and I am very satisfied with it so far.

The Amana 18.5 Cubic Foot Bottom-Freezer Refrigerator is a most welcome addition to our home and kitchen in general. Large enough for a small family and just PERFECT for our two adult household. It is easily large enough for a small families use. The pull out freezer on the bottom is more than large enough for all our frozen items and with Amana's Glide-Out Wire Freezer Basket and Quick Split Organizer you can easily SEE , arrange and access everything in the freezer section. Amana really gets the very most out of this amount of freezer real estate. Really, it's a pretty clever system they have developed for squeezing every square inch of storage possible out of a fridge with a somewhat smaller footprint.
Two separate humidity controlled crispers plus a deli drawer keep all our produce lunch meats and cheese organized and handy. Four tempered glass shelves with Amana's spill saver feature so if something gets knocked over the liquid will only go as far as that particular shelf. They are easy to remove and clean as well and are height adjustable. Basically you can set this thing up to exactly meet your needs. Everything is visible and reached easily. I was actually very pleased at how MUCH room there is in this fridge. I was not expecting as much from the pictures and was pleasantly surprised.
One thing I REALLY like is you can actually put a full gallon of milk (or 2!) in the door itself. Honestly I had never seen something like it before. Sure makes thing handy and helps to make even more space in this already space saving appliance. IN fact, there are many ways to customize the storage area in the doors itself. Lots of room for your own personal customization! The only two things missing from this fridge that you may want or need would be egg holders (I don't use them) and an ice maker/water dispenser. If you can live without those two things, this fridge will serve you well!
Truly a beautiful appliance, this Amana is both modern AND traditional looking at the same time. It features a very nice smooth stainless steel finish that sure looks good in our kitchen. Easy to keep clean (other than finger prints) and very stain resistant! (I am not a fan of white fridges) Like many fridges, only the doors have the Stainless Steel finish. The top and sides are a black enamel color but this should not present a problem if the unit is installed in a kitchen cubby. I have taken and posted a few pics so you can see this fridge in a real world environment. (please excuse our messy pantry)
When the compressor cycles, this fridge is quieter than most. Nothing annoying about it as far as noise goes. I like that! Our old fridge sounded like a demented broken down washing machine stuck on a lopsided spin cycle. This Amana really purrs like a kitten and does it's job with minimal intrusion into the quiet atmosphere of our home.
This Amana is frost free and self defrosts so you can basically set up your temperatures and let Amana do the rest. And setting the temp is VERY easy using the easy to see, and easy to get at controls. The temp controls feature a digital readout, but unfortunately does not include a digital thermometer that you can just set and forget. Instead you get incrementally steps with "4" on the lighted digital readout (one each for top and bottom) being the recommended setting. This was just about the only place where I feel Amana skimped. How much more would it have cost them to include a digitally controlled thermostat with real temperature readouts? For almost $1300.00 I would expect them to, be alas it is not the case. To turn the fridge OFF you must press and hold the freezer DOWN button until you get the null character. This is not something you will need to do normally, but it is nice to not have to unplug it to turn it off.
I tested how fast it took for the fridge to get down to an optimal temp using my two Taylor Food Service fridge/freezer thermometers. From a dead start, the Amana reached a solid 38 degrees in under 90 minutes. And this was with nothing in it. Needless to say, I was impressed having had other fridges that take considerably longer to reach a safe temp. I had the freezer down close to zero in the same amount of time. The preset factory settings of "4" were sufficient to accomplish this.
I want to say a few words about the fridge delivery from the JB Hunt company. In all my years (57) I have never encountered a more professional delivery and setup team. They had it all together. The two guys were very quick, courteous, careful with both our walls and floors and well mannered. Even the truck was brand new. Honestly, it was the best delivery experience I have ever had and puts to shame our local appliance store. (they were also right on time which is amazing these days!)
The real test of this fridge will be in the coming summer. I live in a VERY hot area of Southern California and our last fridge chugged it's way through the summer months. From the build quality and design of this Amana, I fully expect it will perform with flying colors and not even break a sweat. With a full year on both parts and labor (many only give 90 days on labor) Amana gives you a good starting point towards reliable operation. I would personally want to purchase an extended warranty because everyone knows things can get pretty frantic and desperate when your fridge goes out unexpectedly. (like ours did last week)
With that in mind, during and AFTER the summer months I promise to update this review and post my findings as to the performance of the fridge during the hot months. For now, things look very promising. It's a great fridge. I looks really nice, has plenty of options for storage and is relatively quiet! If the Energy Star label is accurate our electric bill should decrease while maintaining a nice cold temp in both the fridge and freezer sections. From everything I have seen so far I can totally recommend this Amana as long as it is large enough for your household. As things sit, it is PERFECT for a two person (or more) household and both myself and my 82 year old dad are looking forward to many years of use from this Amana refrigerator. Cheers! Marty G
I purchased this unit mainly because the housing is made by 3M. But since installing it, I am even more impressed at the quality of water that comes out of the faucet. To make it a plus, the filters are reasonably priced and last over 6 months. The water pressure that comes out of this unit is great.
Even though my filters were slightly damaged at one corner due either to handling or packaging, they worked just fine and were the correct size for my purpose.
Well constructed, cools/freezes quickly, decent amount of room. Haven't yet tested using DC but will update later after I have done so.
I was just a little concerned that the replacement part might not fit. I was pleasantly surprised that it not only fit but was very easy to install. The product shipped very quick as the old valve was leaking and needed replacement ASAP. I would recommend Amazon.com for the best price, fast shipping, and having just the right part for the job.
SquareTrade SquareTrade 3-Year Appliances Warranty ($175-200 Items) says you must have a copy of your Amazon receipt on file with them before you can file a claim. It was not easy to accomplish.
