Koldfront 12 Bottle Stainless Steel Slim-Fit Thermoelectric Wine Cooler - Black/Stainless Steel

Koldfront 12 Bottle Stainless Steel Slim-Fit Thermoelectric Wine Cooler - Black/Stainless Steel
  • Thermopane glass viewing window displays wine collection; Scalloped chrome racking securely cradles wine bottles
  • Slim-fit design utilizes vertical space, leaving a small footprint on your floor
  • Approximate temperature range:52-64°F
  • Interior LED lighting illuminates wine without creating uneven heat distribution
  • External Dimensions: 25 1/2" H x 10 3/8" W x 21 1/4" D; Internal Dimensions: 20 3/4" H x 6 7/8" W x 13" D

This wine cooler should be avoided. I bought one last summer and it died after 6 months. It is the second brand of wine cooler that I have owned (Oster was the other one and that died also) and I guess I could try to get the manufacturer to give me a new one but that would probably die in 6 months too so why bother? For some reason, it is really hard to find a cooler that lasts over a year for under $500 which is ridiculous. Also, this cooler does not have a temp. guage which I think is a "must have" in any cooler. My advice to anyone buying a lower end cooler is to get an extended warranty of at least 2 years.

I liked this product a lot...for the first 12 months. I bought two of them one for our lake house and the other for in town. They kept a true temperature, ran quietly and did just what you would expect of a wine cooler; until suddenly they both stopped working. It was uncanny they both simply quit keeping the wine cool after almost exactly a year of owning them. If I was a cynic I would call it planned obsolescence. It's pretty frustrating. I won't buy an EdgeStar anything ever again.

I bought this wine fridge on amazon because I was having a hard time finding any kind of selection in the big box stores for these. The shipping was expensive though. The bottom of mine when it was shipped seemed to be dirty like it was re-shipp'd to me from a return. It still works ok. The fridge stays pretty cool but installing the handle on the door was a pain. You have to take out the edge rubber insulation on the door to screw it in. The big drawback is that it has a cool blue led light and temp change knob but it is in the inside back of the fridge. so you hvae to take out a wine bottle to reach it an usually I would like the controls on the door and only turn on the light (so it doesn't burn out) when I want something. Other than that it is a very quiet efficient product.

I'm not a big "white" drinker, my collection is heavy on the red side, however I wanted a smaller cooler to get the whites out of the refrigerator. Set up in minutes, cooled fairly quickly and very quiet I've had to check a couple times just to make sure it's on. Love the look and it feels sturdy enough. It's very short I have it next to a chair now in my kitchen and it's about the height of an arm rest. I have zero complaints or issues with it but I've had it only 5 days. We'll see how it survives the long-haul. Not sure if it'll work for under counter as there are side vents and it might need circulation you'd have to check that.

This cooler was acquired to replace a similar model that quit after several years of use. The styling is nice as the silver door is preferable to the otherwise boring black that is commonly offered in these coolers. Quiet operation and wine bottles fit correctly. The temperature does seem to get very cool which is important to me. Many of these coolers barely get below room temperature but this one seems to keep the product cool. I took off one star because this item is made in China. The door can be reversed which the description did not mention.

  • Slideout Spill Proof Glass Shelves
  • Indoor Can Rack

  • Dimensions (WHD): 35 3/4" X 68 3/4" X 31 1/4"

This is a decent refrigerator. Looks good. Good size and features. But, and it is a big one, it is loud. When running it can be heard throughout the house. GE says that is just the way it is. Get use to it. Soooo, if you are hard of hearing or don't mind loud white noise this one may be for you. We had a GE prior to this one for 12 years. It could not be heard at all. This will be our last one.

Update 6-2010 it's no longer $474 like it was when I got mine check around or research anything using a "danfoss compressor" and you will have a good list of choices. End of update

At some time we've all bought the $50-$100 "car coolers" for cans which claim they are refrigerators only to find out they at best can lower the temperature a few degrees if you always keep the door closed. The tipoff is in the instructions where it says you should pre-freeze the product before using the cooler! Real refrigeration systems don't need you to prefreeze cans you just want kept cold. Compressor based systems are so powerful they can make ice! The EdgeStar has a "flash freeze" function when you really need to cool down the box in a hurry. During a flash freeze, the compressor draws about 5 amps instead of its normal 3 amps but then returns to normal thermostat settings after the box is chilled so again your battery is protected.

The EdgeStar 43 quart costs $474 because it uses a conventional R134 (green refrigerant) compressor and evaporator just like your home fridge. This equipment is made by Danfoss which is the only manufacturer of 12 VDC compressors (actually 12-24 VDC to be compatible with the marine marketplace). Danfoss compressors are exceptionally reliable and will run for years.

While smaller thermoelectric coolers draw 10A for larger models, these larger boxes only draw about 3A while running the compressor on 12 VDC. Due to their excellent insulation and exceptional cooling ability they don't need to run continuously like the thermoelectric "coolers" usually do. Mine runs about 1/4 of the time on a hot day and 1/12 of the time on a cold day. Calculating amp hours from runtime and amp draw on a hot day you can easily see why the Edgestar doesnt leave you with a dead battery 8 hours later:

Thermoelectric cooler

10A @ 100% time x 8 hr = 80 AH required from battery for 8 hours use

Edgestar Compressor Cooler

3A @ 25% time x 8 hr = 6 AH required from battery for 8 hours use

Given that the typical car battery holds 80 AH in reserve, the thermoelectric cooler will drain it dead in 8 hours without running the engine. The EdgeStar using the compressor cooler is like running your headlights for 20 minutes and leaves you plenty of starting power.

The runtime percentage on the compressor does go up if you want to store frozen goods which you can't even do with thermoelectric coolers. I've made ice with mine without an issue and kept frozen TV dinners overnight in it. I recommend if you are going to use it as a freezer then add a deep cycle battery and/or isolate your deep cycle from your engine battery.

Despite the elephant in the room of the pricetag, the large size, wide temperature range, and construction quality of the EdgeStar is superior all around compared to the typical thermoelectric cooler on the market. You do get what you pay for. If you plan to have a need for portable refrigeration and/or freezing on the road or on your boat, this won't disappoint you. It's also nice to be able to take it into your hotel room and plug it in while not being on the road. Also where thermoelectric units need to be defrosted every 24 hours these units can run for weeks before having to remove the ice that forms.

At $474 it represents amazon's least expensive solution to a true refrigeration portable unit. There are other more expensive units with larger capacity which are suitable if you have space for them. So long as they use a compressor instead of the thermoelectric system you'll be very happy with the results. Ultimately the price is worth it in its ability to cool/freeze reliably and do so without killing your car battery if you accidentally leave it on all day without running the engine.

Buy 43 Qt Portable Compact Refrigerator Freezer - EdgeStar Now

First I bought an 86qt,

bigger & heavier than I had imagined, but it's what I ordered.

There were electrical issues with it,

so I called & emailed the retailer, as they offered several solutions to repair it (myself).

The best I could ever do is to get it to run for 1-2 hours,

before it shut off, and flashed 2 or 3 different codes.

Once it was determined the typical fixes would not repair it,

they refunded my money without issue.

I still needed a fridge, so as soon as I got the money back, I ordered one of their smaller models (the 43qt I am reviewing now).

This was a dud right out of the box.

The fan would spin, but it didn't cool at all.

With the 86qt,

customer service eventually fixed the problem (refund),

so I figured the WORST case scenario for me would be more wasted time with a bad unit.

Nope.

They offered no repair solutions whatsoever this time,

even when I offered to look for loose wires, like the last time (I am an Electrician, so I'm sure I was following their instructions to the letter).

Their offer:

Mail it back to us (@ $100 shipping) for a refund,

or bring it to a repair shop local to me, and I pay labor to fix it.

I offered to bring it to any repair shop they chose, for diagnosis, on their dime,

and they flatly refused.

I was told because I was refunded my money for the first unit (86qt above),

they would be unwilling to pay anything else out for any other bad units I may receive.

(even though that original deal was closed, and this was an entirely new, separate purchase from the first).

After a month of haggling over the DOA refrigerator,

my credit card came in to rescue me.

I'm on Amazon right now to try to (finally) solve my need for a 12v refrigerator/freezer,

and I can honestly tell you, these Chinese units,

and their preferred retailer are not it for me.

Aside from that experience with the seller,

Overall,

I did like the form factor of this refrigerator.

There seems to be a very common issue of wires coming loose in transit,

but it is pretty easy to access the internals.

Product build quality seemed OK (aside from the wire issue).

Plastic handles are not for lifting when full,

and the latches are flimsy,

but the box, lid & hinges seemed to be decently built, and solid.

Had either one of these fridges worked,

they would have been a good deal for the price.

As for the compressor being a Danfoss,

It may be a Danfoss/Secop style compressor,

but it was sourced through a Chinese manufacturer, not Danfoss.

(obvious, with a Chinese manufacturer's name & Chinese characters stamped all over the compressor).

If you decide to give them a try, hopefully you will have better results than me.

First unit failed in 10 days. Replacement sent to me appeared to be a refurbished unit and had a nice dent in the rear and a noisey whine when running. Edgestar gave me a $50 discount to keep the unit as-is which I reluctanly accepted because I did not want to ship it back again and be without a fridge again. This second unit failed just out of the labor portion of the warrenty and cost me over $100 to ship it back and a flat rate repair of $75. I paid less than $500 for this unit originally and now total cost of $675 invested and without a fridge for about a month each time I had to send it back. When I got the unit back from repair it was improperly packed and now had more dents and many scratches. After conveying my disappoinment to Edgestar management they sent me a brand new unit and paid for shipping the old one back. So far this third unit is workinig okay.

Note this unit is made of thin sheet metal and the paint is scratched very easily. It's suppose to be portable but is very heavy and awkward to handle so getting it in and out of a vehicle is not easy and since it dents and scratches easily don't expect it to look good very long. And note it is suppose to have 6" of clearance on all sides so keep that in mind when you haul it in your vehicle. Good luck!

I purchased a refurbished model at a good price, but when it arrived it didn't work at all. I pulled the cover and noticed that 2 spade connectors had come loose in transit (the connections weren't even soldered). Once plugged in the unit worked perfectly. I used it everyday in my office for drinks and snacks in addition to taking it on the road on vacations and camping trips. We used it in freezer mode on a 21-day trip to Alaska. Ice cream stayed firm all the way there, and 26 lbs of halibut filets stayed frozen solid all the way home.

My 3-year extended warranty expired about a month ago, and now it won't cool below 50 degrees. I gave it 3-stars because of the 3 years it lasted, but I'll be upgrading to an ARB, Waeco, or Engel before my next camping trip.

I received my new 43qt fridge and was very excited. I have an 86 quart model that I love.

This new 43qt is defective. After 30 seconds, I get an HH on the temperature display. Looking it up on the web, it states that the room temperature is over 104 degrees. The room temperature is 79. I have nothing around this fridge for 1 to 3 feet in every direction. I have my 86 quart across the room in this same room and it is having no problems.

Instead of paying almost $100 to ship this (very) heavy fridge back, I sent an e-mail to customer support via their website. I received a confirmation e-mail stating that someone would contact me within 2 business days.

Almost a week later, I hadn't heard from them so I tried calling them via the customer service number on their web site. There was no answer!!

The next day, I tried their customer service number again. No one answered but after several rings, I got a voice mail system that told me to leave my information and that someone would contact me. I did so. That was a few days ago and I've still not heard anything from anyone.

So, if you get one that works, you are in good shape, but if there is something wrong with it, you may find your yourself out of some money.

I'll update this feedback if/when I finally hear from someone. Until then, I would recommend looking for something different.

UPDATE:

20110903 I finally heard from someone. They told me that I would have to ship the unit back to them. I insisted they pay the shipping back (as it was going to cost me another almost $100). They agreed to e-mail me a FedEx label. After a few days, I received an e-mail but it wasn't a FedEx label. It was just a copy of an invoice stating their Return policy. I gave them a few days then e-mailed them again. No response. After another week had passed, I e-mailed them yet again letting them know I was preparing to turn this over to an attorney. (I am in my mid-40's. I have never felt the need to sue anyone, so you can see how angry I was.). Within a few hours I received a reply back stating that a FedEx return label would be forthcoming within 24 hours. I received the label almost immediately after I received the e-mail stating they would send it within one day. They let me know that I had to send the fridge back quickly or the label would be void and that I would not be able to return the unit at all. I took it down to FedEx and shipped it the following morning.

I received a brand-new fridge within a week after sending the defective one back. (I received it about 3 days ago.) I have tested the new fridge and it works very well.

I am happy with my new fridge so I raised my rating for them from 1 star to 4 stars. If it hadn't have been for the poor, slow customer service, I believe they would be a 5 star company.

Despite the quality product, I am leery about ordering from this company ever again. I believe if you get a good unit, you will be happy. But, if there is anything wrong with it, you will be very disappointed with the (almost non-existant) customer service.

Thanks for reading. I hope you have a pleasant experience and enjoy your fridge.

  • Capacity: 33 standard 750ml wine bottles
  • Tempered double pane gray-smoked glass for enhanced UV protection
  • Digital LED temperature control with temperature range from 40ºF - 65ºF
  • Powerful fan-circulated compressor cooling ensures even temperature distribution
  • Security lock and key

Whynter BWR-33SD 33 Bottle Built-In Wine Refrigerator

We just moved into our new place and wanted to class up our kitchen. There was an existing 15" spot that used to be a trash compactor from the previous owner. The measurements for this Whynter wine refrigerator was exactly spot on for the space. Of course having just bought a new house, we wanted to keep furnishings affordable. This wine fridge arrived surprisingly quickly for such a large item. Very very pleasantly surprised at how nice it looked after unpacking. Each shelf holds a good number of bottles if you place them in alternating directions.

Had some spare furniture sliders that we put under the unit and presto it slid into place perfectly! Ran it for a few hours and played around with the controls. Worked perfectly. If we have the blinds drawn the sun hits part of the the wine fridge at certain times. The tinted glass door actually came in useful, even though we never even considered that issue. I would say it runs pretty quietly. It's as quiet as our brand new fridge and has a very slight hum when we open the unit and the compressor runs for a few minutes. Love the handle bar. Just a real nice looking unit in all and we're very excited to fill it up in the near future.

Buy Whynter BWR-33SD 33 Bottle Built-In Wine Refrigerator Now

Received product yesterday via FedEx, installed undercounter to replace a trash compactor. Unit is quiet, cycles on and off as expected. Doesn't make any more noise than a regular refrigerator. We keep it at the 40F mark, my wife likes her white wines chilled. I would highly recommend this to anybody as a remodel or a new installation. 7/27/12, As time goes on, the unit freezes up after approximately 2-3 months of operation. Contacted Whynter, you get no where with them other than the unit is operating properly. Customer Service stated I needed to defrost the unit, no where on the website or owners manual does it state to defrost. Appears a higher CFM fan needs to be installed in the unit. Buyer beware, if I had to do this again I would not have purchased this product.

Whynter BWR-33SD 33 Bottle Built-In Wine Refrigerator

I just did a minor reno on the house and added a new fridge in the kitchen and needed something to highlight the overall space. I took out a 15" cabinet and this Whynter unit fit in perfectly. I had an older Danby wine refrigerator that I gave to my brother. The shelves have are nice steel trimmed wood that can be completely removed as needed. Handle bar is heavy and solid and I like that the controls are not in the unit like many other brands. It's a tight fit for larger champagne bottles, but removing the shelves takes car of it. Has a charcoal filter on the back that keeps the unit fresh especially if you plan on using it as a humidor to store cigars etc. Performance is good, cools very effectively and is about as quiet/noisy as your regular fridge. The price is definitely right.

We needed something for a 15" space and wanted built in, which limits the options. I had a vinotemp which lasted about 6 years, which I guess is good for these things, but it never kept the white wine cold and the metal shelves were a nightmare. The Whynter product gets to lower temperatures, which is great for our whites. The shelves, are much better, although all of these wine coolers have shelves that are too tight. The unit is super quiet. Also another big plus is that it doesn't reset the temperature when we get a power hit -it stays right where we had it set. I absolutely love this wine cooler so far....we'll wait for a few months and give an update, based on some of the other reviews.

Whynter BWR-33SD 33 Bottle Built-In Wine Refrigerator

After several weeks of indecisiveness over size and brand, we finally jumped on this Whynter with the unexpected price drop. I had been dreaming of a built-in unit ever since I took out a section of my cabinets for a trash compactor which I never installed. Since we'd be doing lots of entertaining over the hols, it would be now or never.

The unit arrive superbly packaged, well too well packaged actually. I spent a good 10 mins unpackaing it. Everything was brand new and mint. Installed the handle with no issue. Plugged it it before I pushed it into the cabinet space. Everything checked-out and it got cold suprisingly fast. The shelves are a nice wood and stainless trim and at this price I would be greedy if I expected gliding roller shelves. Seemed very comparable to my brother's Summit wine refrigerator. It's heavy but can be pushed into place with not much effort. Placed all my wines but wasn't able to fill it to capacity. I must say that it looks incredible when in place and filled with wine. The entire kitchen seemed a notch more classy with this Whynter fridge.

The unit chilled the wine very easily and within 3-4 hours, the wines were pretty much at optimal temperature. It's my 3 week with it and it's exceeded much of what I expected and hoped for.

  • Made in North America
  • Great Water Tasting
  • Do not compromise your health with cheap and non-certified filters
  • Always Buy Certified Swift Green Products

It takes a lot to get me to take the time to write a review, but this deserves it. I generally have terrible luck, and avoid "too good to be true" moments. We really needed a fridge filter, though, as the fridge water tasted worse than the tap water. It had been a long time since we changed the filter.

I thought for sure I was going to find this was a typo or something, and end up with one filter, or the wrong kind. However, I got the box, and it had 3 filters, and they fit perfectly. Even including shipping (I payed for the 3-5 shipping, but I was pleasantly surprised to see it show up in 2!) I payed less than I would have had I bought a single filter from anywhere else I looked. My water is so much better. No more funky taste, and no funny gurgling sound when the ice maker runs. It fits, it works, and I didn't pay a fortune. I would definitely buy these again.

I use these in my fridge at work. Works in most Fridgedaire units. Usually located at the back of the top shelf of the fridge. Just unscrew the housing, pop out the old filer and pop in the new.

Works as good as the original. I hope it lasts as long as the brand name water filters. So far so good.

We do not drink our tap water! These filters work exceptionally well and are so much more affordable than anywhere else we have looked or purchased! Now, we really can replace them every six months, as recommended. Easy to install in fridge, and our water tastes great!

Maytag MSD2559XEW 35 1/2 25.8 cu. ft. Side by Side Refrigerator - WhiteAfter three years of service, the fridge quit cooling properly. My new house came with all new Maytag appliances, which I thought was good because they would last. First the Microwave blew it's controller board six months ago, now the fridge quit working and one of the burners on the Maytag glass top stove won't heat.

I would encourage folks to buy anything OTHER than Maytag. These new products are expensive pieces of garbage.

The Maytag repair man apparently got schizophrenia and was promoted to director of quality and design!

Brita FRRF-100 Refrigerator Replacement Filter

Brita FRRF-100 Refrigerator Replacement FilterThe product came just as promised and was exactly as was shown on the screen I made my purchase from. I liked having not just a model number to match the product with, but also seeing the picture of the unit inside of an actual fridge that showed me it is the same as my fridge which gave me the confidence to do this on line.

Thank you.

This is a great filter for my older Frigidaire model refrigerator. It is easy to replace and the water tastes great. You will find it more expensive at other sites especially when you have to add in shipping for other sites.

So I moved into a new home and the filter in the fridge was "dirty" in the most literal term. The water tasted like dirt. I looked at buying the ones at home depot but they were like $40 or $50 and I wasn't expecting a water filter to cost so much. So I did some searching on the internet and found this. There are others for like $5 or $10 but I am unusually picky about my water. I dislike many bottle types, mostly Aquafina and Fiji, but my favorite types are Smart water and Voss. I work with water everyday (pool store) and have come to be able to taste slight variations in pH and metal content. So far I LOVE THIS FILTER! I actually stopped buying bottled water (which was costing me a ridiculous amount for Voss and Smart water) and purchased sports bottles to take the fridge water with me. Oh, to get the filter "primed" you initially have to dispense 2-5 gallons of water, and don't forget to throw away your old ice if it tasted funky. Hope this was helpful!

Time used: approx. 45 days

Water dispensed: >100 gallons

This made the water taste much better than the OEM filter. The quality was similar to other Brita filters.

It was easy to change, and the filter is substantial. The water tasted great months after installation. I find myself drinking water instead of other beverages now. At least for me, this thing paid for itself on that basis in 2 weeks.

So... it's cheaper and more effective. You should buy it.
