Whirlpool Part Number 8171398A: DEODORIZER
Buy Whirlpool Part Number 8171398A: DEODORIZER Now
What I received was not the refrigerator deodorizer as pictured, which I had purchased before and been happy with. What I received was two cardboard boxes with holes in them. I could have gone to my local grocery store and bought Arm & Hammer baking soda and punched some holes in the box and gotten the same result. Can't believe they charged me $12.60 each for them! Before I left negative feedback, I contacted the seller with my complaint but never received any response. Very poor service on a VERY bad product. Maybe someone from Amazon will read this and contact me---I hope so as this has left a very negative impression on me.Read Best Reviews of Whirlpool Part Number 8171398A: DEODORIZER Here
The items are NOT manufactured by Whirlpool but by a different company. The package is flimsy cardboard, not plastic as pictured and as previously sold. The listing says it lasts for a year but the package says replace after six months. I have written to Amazon complaining about these misrepresentations. Good luck if you still want to buy this.My wife and I purchased this item last year when the fridge started giving off a strange smell. We had emptied it and cleaned it with vinegar, soap, comet, nothing would get rid of the smell which I guess had securely fastened itself in the vents. We bought these as a last resort and they did the trick (Although I think the cleanings got rid of the original source of the smell so you might want to do that as well). We put them in the freezer and fridge and in 24 hours there was not a hint of stink.Thursday, June 5, 2014

Have used it for a few months and the capacity seems a bit overstated. 30 might be a more realistic expectation if you are loading Bordeaux bottles. The noise is another factor. It is a bit noisy for a kitchen next to a den where the compressor noise and pops and bangs from thermal changes are very noticeable during a quiet evening. I may have to find a more remote location for this machine. It does keep everything nicely cool and looks fine next to other appliances, for the money not a great buy but still good.Read Best Reviews of 35 Bottle Wine Cooler,Reversible Door,Tempered Glass Door,Worktop Here
By and large, it didn't seem like Danby had a good reputation. I wish I had listened to my gut on the other reviews. I knew this particular one would look somewhat cheap (plastic finish rather than stainless steel, thin interior walls, limited features), but for the price I figured I could live with that. However, what was unacceptable about this one was temperature and noise. I was hoping that I wouldn't get the "lucky" unit with these issues that were mentioned by others, but I did unfortunately.
First of all, the temperature. Top shelves had ice on them! I guess if I wanted my wine that cold, I just could have thrown it in my freezer.
Second, the noise. The compressor itself is pretty quiet. However, my unit made roaring and whooshing noises like an old refrigerator. Annoying at the very least, but also led me to think something more serious could be wrong. Worst of all though was the popping noise that literally sounded like the glass was cracking. I'm guessing this was due to expansion and contraction of the glass with fluctuations in temperature, but would they not have an expansion joint or something on the edges of the glass to prevent this noise?
All in all, I got a lemon, and I returned it today (after 2 days of usage). I'm not taking my chances on another unit of the same model since it's a pain to unpack and pack. I say steer clear of this model.

Shipping and delivery were timely and well done. Over all the unit is what I was expecting. I even manage to fit nearly 35 bottles in there including Burgundy shaped bottles which was a pleasant surprise. My only grip is that the nob to change the temperature is basically useless. Be it at full "on" position or barely above the "off" position the unit maintains a consistent 52 degrees near the bottom and 55 at the very top. For the most part I purchased this with the intent of semi-long term storage so I don't mind the temp around 54 degrees, but if you are planning on serving red straight from the unit you would do well to let it stand on the counter for 15-20 minutes before hand. Despite the limited temp options I am pleased with the design and build and would recommend it with the added warning that you will most likely not get this to maintain a higher temperature than 55 degrees. If you want that "added" option of temp control...spend more money.Thermostat was defective upon arrival, and a replacement was similarly defective. In addition, the design of the wine cooler was inadequate as it will not accommodate Pinot Noir bottles. The overall impression of this cooler is that it is cheaply made and badly designed. Ended up returning it, and asking for refund. This is the type of consumer good one needs to see and "try out" at a store before purchasing.Saturday, February 8, 2014

Whirlpool GB2FHDXWQ Gold 21.9 Cu. Ft. White Bottom Freezer Refrigerator - Energy Star
- 5 Spillproof Glass Shelves
- Reversible Door Swing
- Clear Humidity-Controlled Crisper
- Slide-Out Freezer Drawer
- Factory Installed Automatic Ice Maker
1) Fridge space: Lots of room inside. I was concerned that the controls near the top would get in the way when putting tall bottles on the top shelf but that hasn't been an issue.
2) Drawer space: I specifically selected a fridge without the "catering drawer" because I eat lots of veggies and wanted the space for them. I really use all the space in the vegetable drawers. While I'm not disappointed, I could even use more veggie space.
3) Freezer: It works great, but I have a couple of issues.
The first is that with the curved back of the freezer, it feels like I have less space than my prior 18.5 cu.ft. fridge. Not sure, but it just seems like now that I have a freezer that actually works, I don't have enough space to do the cook-ahead and freeze stuff I would have liked. Also, I would really have preferred a door rather than a drawer. To get to the ice, you have to pull the entire bottom drawer out and only then can you pull out the top shelf which holds the ice cube bin at the back. It's do-able but it just doesn't make sense to have to pull all the frozen stuff out into the room when all I want is a handful of ice cubes.
4) Noise level: I know folks have had issues with noise but not me. This fridge is really quiet, making just a bit of noise when it fills the ice cube tray
5) Surface texture: I don't know why another review complained that the sides of the fridge were texttured rather than smooth --I am happy with the texture. I like it.
Quick note on size: I had to get this fridge into a small space as I have an old-fashioned kitchen. The published depth is 33" including the door but it is actually just over 30" including the door, which worked well for me.
So, despite my nit-picking, I'm very happy with the fridge. . .

I'm still really happy with the fridge. I took a very expensive extended warranty out on this fridge because of all the negative reviews but I'm happy that I've not had to use it. The freezer still seems a bit small compared to my old fridge, but I love the refrigerator.

After 18 months, my refrigerator drain froze up and dumped water into the floor of the freezer which froze in a sheet of ice. It then partially thawed periodically and leaked water out the front onto the floor. Yes, I did not buy an extended warranty contract for this refrigerator.I took the refrigerator apart, removed all the ice and cleaned the drain, and am waiting to see if the problem reappears. If it does, it is either a defective defrost control or a bad fan. Either one of these will cost you $300 to get a service tech to repair it in your home.
For a DIYer, to remove an ice blockage, you have to remove the bottom door, drawers and part of the drawer tracks, as well as the ice maker to get the back panel out in the freezer. Then, to ensure you have gotten all the ice out, you have to remove the panel on the back of the refrigerator and inspect the drain all the way to the evaporator tray, which is hidden behind the back panel. This took me about 3 hours.
I wrote a bad review on Whirlpool's website, where I found several similar complaints about the freeze-up problem, and was contacted by a customer relations person via email. She demanded my name, address, phone number, and the serial number of my refrigerator. Then, by return email she said they have no service bulletins indicating that this is a problem with their refrigerators. Then she volunteered to sell me a service contract. She also said they do not have any service technicians available to talk to customers.
Then, Whirlpool REMOVED MY BAD REVIEW FROM THEIR WEBSITE!
Actually, we like the refrigerator and I would have given it a higher rating if it went problem free for 4 or 5 years, AND if Whirlpool was helpful. Neither happened so I would recommend that you find a company with a better record. We LOVE this fridge. The Fridge space is great and organized well with shelves that slide out to make everything accessible. The fridge is quiet, it can be noisy at first when it's making ice, but after the tray is full, it runs quietly. We love the ease of the of the bottom mount freezer, it's seems so much easier to open then the side by sides.
The freezer seems smaller than a traditional freezer, but the drawer feature and the divider does help with organization. The only real problem is it doesn't fit a large frozen pizza real well.
The biggest problem with this fridge is the door doesn't shut well. Even if you push it shut you really need to push it hard and make sure it shuts. I have found it slightly ajar more than once, and we are a family with teens who certainly know how to slam shut a fridge. I wish it had a door alarm to alert you when it's open. It's the only thing that we don't like about this fridge.

I bought this refrigerator May 28th 2011. For several months it worked well but then we started noticing droplets of water, ice and eventually a sheet of ice covering the very bottom of the freezer compartment. We defrosted it and left the door open for awhile to make sure there was no ice left and tried it again, same result. Figuring that this could be a problem with the cabinet not being level that was checked and found good. The icemaker was also checked and level and turned off for awhile. Again it sheeted ice in the bottom. After pulling the panels and testing the drain (no easy task given the design of this unit) the drain was found to be open. While in there it was a good time to clean the condenser coils located on the very bottom. These are designed in such a way that it's impossible to get a coil brush thru them or near enough to do any good. Compressed air is about the only option and that really doesn't get them clean. This somehow got an energy star rating but the design is so poor that it certainly would not maintain good efficiency over the appliances lifetime unless the owner was able to keep these coils clean and dust free.Whirlpool's Customer Experience Center has been emailed and contacted also by phone. Their rep "Terry" in Cleveland Tenn was very polite but said "youre out of warranty" and got a supervisor to speak with me. The supervisor "Joetta" commented that I was "Well out of the warranty period" at 3 months and 3 weeks and offered to fix my appliance along with a years extended warranty for $319.99. After a little better than a year I regret buying this refrigerator and regret that I chose Whirlpool. We've only had this refrigerator for about a month so I can't comment on the quality, but it does appear to be nice. It is very quiet and looks great. My only complaint about the bottom freezer is how much space the drawer system takes up. Don't expect to stuff it full, like you would with a normal top freezer.
Minor issue:
You have to make sure the door closes completely after each use. We were used to lightly closing the door and walking away with our old unit, but this one will not seal unless you make a point to purposely close the door. We have woken up in the morning to find the door open a half inch with everything inside completely warm...

Shipped promptly and was set up inside the house. The unit has no rollers under it just leveling feet. The compressor and fan are fairly quiet when they come on. Shelves accommodate various size bottles including chardonnay, pinot noir and thick glass bottles. Did not have issues with the fit being so tight that it scraped the labels off. It is rare that I was able to get 10 bottles on a shelf, so capacity was really more like 130 bottles than 160. Overall great unit at a great price. I would recommend it.Read Best Reviews of Avanti : WCR683DZD2 24 Freestanding Wine Cooler with Wooden Shelves Here
The temperature does not remain constant, widely fluctuating as much as 7 degrees within minutes with no atmosphereic temperature change of any significance, and it will not remain at the same temperature range as its 683 counterpart right next to it that I purchased in 2010. Further, I called the Avanti service line to arrange a for a technician to examine the unit under the warranty. The company they contract with in St. Louis is called ServTech and the technician who was supposed to make the service call for them is Ed Springer. I arranged with Ed to come Saturday morning (April 13) at 9:30 A.M. I opened the main front door of the house around 9:10 or 9:15, thus leaving only the windowed storm door closed so he would know I was there, I saw his card stuck in the main door window. So the guy showed up long before 9:30, left his card, and took off. I never heard a knock and never got a call from him to tell me he was there. Wait, it gets worse. I called him 3 times on Saturday, told him that I knew he was there before 9:30, and to please call me back so he could come back and do the job. I never heard from him.Wednesday, September 11, 2013

I would encourage folks to buy anything OTHER than Maytag. These new products are expensive pieces of garbage.
The Maytag repair man apparently got schizophrenia and was promoted to director of quality and design!
