Koolatron W75 Kool Wheeler Cooler 36-Quart

Along with the 110V power adapter, this product was a great buy. We needed to take something like this along with us on a road trip. We ran it for 8 days continuously, moving it from the car to the hotel rooms we were staying in. It was large enough to hold enough food for a family of 5. We did not use the "warm" feature of this device, only the "cold", but I could see the "warm" feature being really nice. It was really nice not having to deal with filling it with ice constantly, nor having to move food from the cooler to a regular fridge and back.

I specifically liked the following things about it:

It is deceptively big. We had a whole gallon of milk (in two 1/2 gallon containers), as well as lunch meat, all sorts of yogurt/pudding containers, and fruits in there.

The wheels: this was key for us, we looked for the biggest cooler we could find that had wheels. There are bigger powered coolers out there, but this is the biggest we could find with wheels. My 6 year old was able to drag a full cooler from the car to the hotel without any issues.

The fan on the side: at first, I thought it would be a mistake to buy something with the fan on the side (rather than on the top), since we wouldn't be able to stack anything next to it. This, however, worked to our advantage when we decided to keep the cooler in the car (rather than in the trunk), we simply stacked things on top of it.

It runs very quietly, even though it was on in our hotel rooms all night, we had no issues sleeping.

The lid does not stay open on its own, which means the kids can't accidentally leave it open (I could see this being a negative for some)

Some cons (none of which were a big deal for me):

The cooler works by drawing warm air from outside, cooling it, then blowing it around inside the cooler. As a result, the slots where the air comes in will collect frost, and after 2 or 3 days, froze solid, which prevented the air from circulating, which increased the temperature inside. Every couple of days, I took everything out, used a hair dryer to melt all the frost (took a few minutes), then put everything back in after running it for a few minutes. The hair dryer is not absolutely necessary, but it does speed things up.

The handle feels "cheap" (e.g. like it might break)

You need to leave some room near the air vent on the side of the device, otherwise you lose air circulation, meaning things on the other side of the cooler get warmer.

It takes a few hours to cool things down, it is not like a fridge. We cooled all of our food initially in a fridge, then transferred it to the cooler.

I really researched which cooler to buy. I read the reviews, thanks to everyone who posted and didn't want to spend a fortune, but was willing to spend a bit to get a good working product. Went with the Koolatron for many reasons and have to say after 11 days on the road running nearly non stop that I made the right choice 100%!

We ran this thing non stop nearly both in hotel rooms and in the car. After 7 days, a bag of ice I had added at home was still frozen solid and it was colder inside cooler than hotel fridge. No joke! I was afraid to put the food in the fridge so just keep them in the cooler and put the drinks in the fridge.

Add a couple ice packs or a bag of ice as it help keep the temp even lower and since our Honda Odyssey Touring plug in the back turns off when engine is off, the ice helps keep the temp down during gas fill ups and bathroom runs without sacrificing coolness.

I noticed no ice or frost build up after 7 days, but chose to turn in off for a short time & dry it out just to be safe. What I did notice was after that when car was turned off somehow we had a bit of water in the bottom and did not dry it out, then the frost built up. I think because the food was out for a couple minutes, persipration developed on the food. I believe if there is perspiration or additional moisture inside, then likely to get frost. Still ran with frost, but I decided to dry it out and defrost to be on the safe side. I also wiped down food before putting back inside. THis time no frost build up.

Bought the adapter plug for using in the hotels and did as other reviewers said. I cooled it down the day before at home without anything inside so it was cold when we started and added only cold food & drink to it. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. No moisture produced. Adapter gets hot for sure. Almost scary, but no problems with it.

This was NOT our main cooler, but for our foods like meats, cheeses, milk etc. that needed to stay cold all the time. Stayed as cold as my fridge at home if not colder keeping ice frozen even in outdoor temps up to 100 degrees while engine was running!

We had a standard cooler with ice for drinks that was used allowing the Coolatron to protect vital foods. Highly recommend this cooler and adapter, but Amazon needs to fix the packaging as we did have minor damage and could have easily been destroying or severely damaged in shipping. Do not order last minute. We did and had one wheel with minor damage and the plastic restrainer for the lid was broken. No time to exchange, but works fine without.

Right out of the box the wheel on this cooler fell off. The wheels and handle are very cheaply made. I needed it so I used the cooler anyway. Once cold, it kept drinks very cold. I would not recommend buying the one with wheels.

Koolatron was received as expected. Although it appeared to be cheaply made, the size and appearance was as expected.

I would have liked it but it only worked for a week before it stopped cooling or heating. Cost too much to use it with ice.

So we bought a house that unfortunately didn't have room in any of the counter space for a full sized dishwasher without a complete remodel. We settled for a 18" since we don't make that many dirty dishes anyway. The unit is sexy, in my opinion. We didn't have $1,000 for an upscale Bosch or Miele compact unit so I was pleased that this one had a number of higher-end features like a stainless tub and wash settings for delicate glassware. The stainless finish is attractive and easy to keep up with nothing but a damp microfiber cloth.

I installed from scratch, with the help of my father in law who is an electrician. Installation was pretty straightforward. Be careful when you're installing the elbow on the hot water inlet, though. I tightened it a little too much and it pushed against the solenoid, jamming it, which wouldn't allow water in the first time we ran it. I backed it off a bit and it's working fine now.

Specs say this model holds 8 complete place settings, where full sized units take 10-12, I think. I'm not sure about how accurate that claim is, on average, but it does hold quite a bit enough for our needs. The manual gives diagrams suggesting how to make the most of the space, thankfully. It can still take a bit of getting used to, though. I quickly found that our large dinner plates (square, 10.25") are about 1/4" too tall to fit in the lower bin without hitting the sprayer. I think they had to set the top rack a little lower than average to allow for the weird double-stacking cup shelf feature up there. Make sure your plates are under 10" in diameter, especially if they're not round, which allows them to drop between the slats in the rack for extra clearance. The silverware trays have removable tops with slots in them to keep your spoons from spooning, etc which ensures that they get clean. You can pop them off to allow loading of larger items, too.

It's very quiet when it's running. I was worried about the fact that there were no noise ratings available anywhere, even from Danby themselves, but it's ended up being a non-issue. Our kitchen, dining room and living room are all one big open contiguous space and we can run a load of dishes without having to turn up the T.V. at the other end of the room. Much quieter than the new entry level Kenmore we had at our previous apartment.

Wash loads use a tiny amount of detergent, around a tablespoon. Our large box of Cascade will probably last us a year or more. I've found that using a rinse aid like Jet Dry is necessary for dishes to dry completely. I'm not sure if that's just because we had to run a drain line extension but the manual implies that that is the case in any situation. Jet Dry is like $4 and I've got the dispenser set on the lowest of 4 settings so I'm sure it'll last quite a while between refills. There's a salt tray for if you have hard water but we'll not be needing that.

I've put a couple of loads through it so far and they've all come out spotless, even on the economy cycle. The cycles take a long time, or at least it seems like they do I guess I never timed my previous dishwashers. Most of the cycles take about 2:45, though. The buttons only have icons on them and I find I need to keep the manual handy to remember which cycles are which but I've only had it a few days.

All in all I'm about as pleased as I can be, sans the issues with the large items fitting, which cost it that 5th star. As long as it holds up well, I give it a hearty recommendation.

I already had an 18" dishwasher (that went bad) plugged into my garbage disposal. So, I figured this wouldn't be the most difficult job to swap in the Danby, and it took 4-6 hours (lunch, & some 12oz curls maybe slowed me down here & there)

I'm a casual DIY'er, so this may be too basic for most, but for other's some (hopefully helpful) install feedback.

I also uploaded a few pics to show some details if that helps.

When buying this, just buy one of these "kits" that includes a new water input line (if you don't already have one like this, my current setup had copper pipes), and that also includes the copper 3/4" MIP elbow that you'll need (no, the dishwasher doesn't come with the elbow, you need to buy one) (or just get the elbow if you've already got a braided line): Watts D60U Universal Dishwasher Kit with 3/4-Inch FGH EL, Stainless Steel, 60-Inch. Besides that, you'll also need plumbers tape, some tools, & your beverage of choice. Oh, if you want, on Youtube there are videos of how to install a dishwasher that'll walk you through it as well. I'd say if you've already got one there that you are replacing, and you have some DIY know-how you should be able to do this pretty easy (I called and got 2 quotes, from $100-200 for the install), but got bored & figured I'd give it a try.

--Yes, the instructions for the electrical hookup on page 2 of the manual are for some other machine. On the Danby, there's a skinny green ground already under a screw, and another big green wire in the piggy tail. I just stripped another 3/8" of sheath away on the ground wire in the piggy tail, so I had plenty of exposed wire to wrap around the house's thinker gauge ground wire (spread out the thinner strands of wire when wrapping around the bigger gauge wire, so more contact points), and then used a wire cap (keep screwing the cap until it won't screw in any more). I am not an electrician, so take any advice at your own risk, but that's what my uncle (that knows his stuff) told me to do & seemed to work fine (see customer pictures)

--Yes, the Danby is very short in height, pretty much had to max out the legs. HINT: Take some white-out & mark a corner on each of the feet. Screw them in all the way. Get 1 at the correct height, and "count" the rotations up to that point (each time the white-out comes around), then just rotate the other 3 legs out the same # of rotations. Should be level as is (or pretty dang close).

--At first you are confused where to "route" the water hose & discharge hose, but once you raise up the legs you'll have tons of space underneath the dishwasher.

--The manual is literally backwards, you should start on the last page, & work backwards. Even the "checklist" before turning it on the 1st time is on page 2 :)

--The manual says to have the elbow for the water input pointing "left" but try as I might, perhaps b/c of the threading on the elbow, I couldn't get it tight (& not leaking water) in any position except pointing to the right. Oh well, the braided hose doesn't seem to have a problem with this (see the picture)

--The discharge hose on the Danby is already hooked on, and has a funky curve right where it connects, so I didn't want to bother using a different discharge hose. But, the stock discharge hose wasn't long enough to reach my garbage disposal (given that you should have a point in your discharge line "higher" than the disposal, so water doesn't run back into the dishwasher). So, I just got a coupler (3/4") and hose clamped them together. The manual said you can have a total of 10' of discharge hose which is right what I was at (if you went 15' etc not sure the pump would clear the line?) Anyways, ran a few loads, everything seems to drain just fine (see pic of the coupler as well).

Other random notes:

-don't over-tighten the elbow, might break something.

-Do NOT use your knee to back the machine into the cabinet space, the front stainless panel isn't reinforced so you could dent it. Also, don't get mad when your team loses in the playoffs and kick it.

-STAINLESS STEEL CARE: if you've already got stainless appliances, you probably already have your care routine, but something a sales guy taught me once was using a "micro-fiber" towel to apply the stainless cleaner/polish. Supposedly the micro-fibers get into the fine grain of the steel and does a better job than a normal cloth getting grease off and laying a layer of wax to protect against finger prints. Not sure if this is an urban myth, but works for me. I would put a coat of stainless cleaner/polish on right away before your dog starts throwing his slobber on it.

-Noise--definitely quieter than my old Frigidaire, but if it isn't quiet enough for you, then just use the delayed start timer, so just load up & have it run after the movies are over, no biggie.

-If you have to stop it half-way through a cycle (& its full of water), you can't just manually toggle the control to a "drain" cycle to start over. Fix I found was to run the shortest cycle (the one on the right, Rinse? its only 8 minutes).

-Be sure to show your significant other the dish loading instructions, so you don't have to fight over the best way to load it:)

-Nice that it has a spray arm on the top rack, my last dishwasher didn't, should be a big improvement.

-The dish racks on this Danby are the same width as my last Frigidaire, but they are indeed 2 inches shorter (front to back). So, yes, there is a small loss of space. But, I didn't feel like paying $300 more for a GE for just a few inches, especially since this Danby has got great reviews both here & on HD's site (and besides a few dud machines, most complaints are typical of "any" 18" dishwasher, so not sure what's not to like at this great price point...usually when you see something priced almost half of other machines it means its inferior, but all the reviewers have loved this Danby, and I don't have anything to complain about either after my first 2 loads)

-If you are looking for the Serial # for your online warranty, its not on the tag when you open the door like normal, its listed on the "right" cross-brace when you remove the kicker panel.

-The SLEEP DELAY timer is a little confusing at first, because it doesn't mark passing time by the minute, only in 30 minute decreasing intervals (so at first you'll think its not working, come back in 30 minutes, you'll see the time will have reduced by 30).

-The delivery guys were right on time, really can't beat this with Prime (free) delivery for $441, $25 universal install kit, and DIY install

Overall this is a nice little unit, which is very appealing to look at. This was a direct replacement for a old 18" dishwasher mounted into my cabinets. Will say that the over-all height of this unit vs. the old unit is a few inches (2"-3") shorter-so I had to adjust the legs quite a bit to accomodate, and now need to add baseboard moulding underneath and around the bottom run of cabinets to hide the opening/ water and electrical connection points not a big deal. Cleans dishes very well, and do recommend that you lower the top rack down to the lowest of the 2 settings, as this will gain you a bit more capacity for dishes (still less capacity than that of my old unit). Also, it should be noted that this unit does not have a heater for drying dishes, so don't be suprised if you need to open the door at the end of the cycle (ave run time 2.75hrs) to allow for air circulation to dry.

Overall very impressed, and would recommend this to anyone looking for a relatively inexpensive way to update/replace a similar unit for a stainless steel model.

I bought this a year ago and have been using it since. I did not have a dishwasher before and this little space saver is a dream! I give it 5 stars not because it is the best dishwasher ever, but because it has met and exceeded my expectations.

There are some complaints out there, but be sure to differentiate complaints about the actual model and an 18-inch energy efficient dishwasher in general. Let me address some other people's complaints:

Cycles take a long time: That is tradeoff of energy efficiency and getting Energy Star approval. It's never an issue for me. I don't run the dishwasher because I need something 'now', I run it and forget about it.

On/Off switch stopped working: Any product can have an issue. This one has an 18 month warranty, longer than the standard 12. Mine has worked perfectly for a year.

Has an on/off button: Seriously, that's a problem?

Can't fit a lot in there: With any compact dishwasher, your existing dishes might not fit exactly how you had hoped. Standard size round dishes will fit fine. I spent a few bucks for some shorter, smaller glasses that fit better in the dishwasher than my existing tall ones did.

I had mine professionally installed because I did not have an existing dishwasher. If you are replacing one the same size most people could probably do it themselves.

If you are looking for an 18 inch dishwasher at the low/mid end, this should be at the top of your list.

We replaced our broken 18 inch dishwasher with this Danby and can't believe how much smaller our loads are. We can get half the amount of glasses and no big bowls compared to our last 18 inch. Kinda sad, but it does clean well. It does have an on/off button, which I don't like. I do like the delayed start option, since we would always forget to start it before bed with our old one.

There aren't many 18 inch dishwashers out there so for the price it's seems OK. We'll see how long it lasts.

Very pleased with this unit so far. Exterior digital display makes it easy to keep and eye on the temp. The temp selector is an analog dial inside the unit, and doesn't have numeric scale, so there's some trial and error to get the right temp, but overall works well. The unit is out in our garage that fluctuates with the outside temp, and overall does a very good job maintaining temp, even when it's up into the 80s and 90s outside. Will be purchasing a 2nd one shortly so we can have a red and white cellar at different temps.

I bought this to age cheese and wine in, per another review. It works great. The temp is controlled by a knob inside the unit, so you may have to do a little trial and error to get it to where you need it. Not bad at all.

To start with, I'm not a wine cona "sewer". I don't know that much about it and would never pay a lot for it. Crown Royal is my drink of choice. However, I saw this wine deal from Wall Street Journal. The introductory offer was about 15 bottles for about $90 with no shipping charges. This is about $6 a bottle which is in my league. Every 3 months or so they offer you some more but not so cheaply. You can cancel at any time. (Wish it was that easy with marriage!) So I ordered it. The bottles have nice labels and many foreign pedigrees.

While drinking that first bottle, I decided to investigate wine chillers again. I had looked several years ago and Consumers Reports had reviewed many, mostly bad. I looked again and Consumers has rated only the expensive, $1500, models. I would never pay that. So, I started looking at Amazon. This model seemed to have good reviews and the price was good. (At that time, it was $62 with free, Amazon Prime, shipping. Now, the price is not so good.)

I kinda wanted the nickel finish but someone wrote that the whole unit wasn't nickel so I opted for this black one, a little cheaper, and, it would go okay in our kitchen. The unit was very well packed in an extra heavy cardboard box and enclosed in Styrofoam. I thought the quality was excellent. It fits very nicely on our kitchen counter, not taking up very much room. It has an internal LED lite that you can turn off if you want. It's not enough light to read the bottle labels but it is really cool looking when you have your friends over.

Haier seems to be pretty well known for making refrigeration units. This unit, however, does not have a compressor. It uses thermoelectric cooling, conversion of electricity into cooling. As such, it could be more reliable (and smaller) and quieter. You might compare this unit to a Styrofoam cooler with ice on the bottom. There aren't any coils in the sides, bottom, or top of this unit. Maybe a negative is that the unit runs all of the time to maintain the desire cooling.

The manual states that the internal temperature is a function of the external temperature. This makes sense if you again think of this unit as similar to a Styrofoam cooler. We keep our home at about 70 degrees. I found that the min and max temperatures of this unit were 47 and 63 degrees which is agreement with the manual specifications and covers what I found on the internet to be a recommended range for wine chilling 43 to 65 degrees. For me, if it contains alcohol and I want it, I will drink it no matter what its temperature is! The temperature adjustment is a simple knob. Those that desire more precision should perhaps opt for a digital model.

As far as the Wall Street Wine goes, I was disappointed. I thought that the big W Mart wine, going for $4, was much better. One reviewer complained about noise from this unit. There is some noise from the fan which runs all the time, but, unless you live in a mortuary, any noise would probably be overcome by your refrigerator, TV, or kids. At the price I paid, I was thinking about buying more units simply for storage of something! It is pretty cool looking!

Unless you think you can drink more than 6 bottles a day, when even I, a serious drinker, can't, I think this unit is a good choice. With the price increase I have just seen, you might evaluate other units. I definitely think that a non-compressor unit is the way to go for small (and cheap) coolers.

Just got this was packed well and as usual Amazon got it rolling out the door promptly. Plugged it in and it worked. Cooled from 80 degrees to 45 degrees in probably 15 minutes. The fan is not noisy and it doesn't draw much power at all. I just got it, so could die tomorrow but the way it sounds I can tell they did their homework.

Even the latch on the top door is great quality has a spring action the puts tension on the lid to keep it somewhat down even before you latch. Smart. Only complaint is it came with a dent in the front of it that happened between the first box and second 'shipping' box at the factory. Ah, but so what, it's nice and seems to work great. Did the flash freeze, got down to -2 and stayed there. Outside didn't get cool so the insulation must be good.

I'm a big solar guy, so when I go camping will run this off the sun + battery during the day and just a battery at night. I will post a pic showing it with a 1/2 gallon of milk inside, to give you some perspecitve.

I was going to buy an Engel fridge/freezer but couldn't justify the high price tag.

This fridge/freezer is about $400.00 cheaper and while it may not last as long as an Engel i'm sure it will last at least 5 years with proper care.

I live overseas and spending this much on a portable fridge is risky how they handle the mail is a crap shoot.

I didn't expect this to arrive for at least month from the time of order. I was surprised it arrived in 4 days which is remakable through the Military mail system. In fact as much as it weighs it arrived without a scratch!

The fridge is simple to operateAC or run on a deep cycle battery. Set the temp you want and thats it.

It's bit on the heavy side but not so much you can't lift it where you want to set it. The Plus is the removable baskets which should save you some back pain over time.

With these type of applances, they either work out of the box or they don't the first time you plug them in.

It's been my experence if they work they will work trouble free for a long time.

Luckly mine worked right out of the box :)

Does a super job at cooling , set at 40 initially, during 24 hour test, then shifted to 42 degrees because it overshoots a bit and brings it to 36 degrees. The only issue is the weight, EMPTY it is hefty allready, and filled would require two folks to transport !

We bought this refrigerator eight months ago and have really enjoyed it. My wife and I have four children, so we load up both the fridge and freezer sections. We are always surprised at how much it will hold. I often open the door wondering where another plate of leftovers will go and somehow it just fits. For example, we keep four gallons of milk in one fridge door along with numerous bottles of condiments and usually a sippy cup or two. The slide out tray holds a deceptively large amount of stuff.

We couldn't be more pleased with ours and have had no problems, although sometimes the ice comes out a little crushed when it is supposed to be cubed. And we really like the way it looks.

I would recommend it and would purchase it again.

Had it since July. The doors require a conscious effort to close, which after two months, we have not mastered. There is a soft beeping alarm that sounds after a time if the doors are not sealed. Despite this, we all find the doors ajar for no reason. The freezer frosted over after about 24 hours of being slightly open (we were gone overnight). Maybe we've had a lifetime of old fridges with inefficient, easy to close doors and need more time to get used to this fancy piece of equipment? I'd like to observe other "high-end" fridge doors in action.

Also, the ice cubes and crushed ice comes spraying out, making it difficult to capture them in a glass underneath the shoot. The inset tray does not have a drain for the melted ice which does not (in volume) make it into the cup. We keep a cotton rug nearby to absorb the water that comes from the ice surging beyond our containers onto the floor. The water that pools in the tray we soak up with a towel.

The fridge came new with a new house.

We remodeled our kitchen in Feb 2012 and bought over 5K worth of SS appliances (and 5-year warranties) from Brandsmart in Deerfield Beach,Fl including this lovely-looking Whirlpool-Gold stainless-steel French Door Bottom Freezer refrigerator. Just 6 months later the plastic CENTER SUPPORT SNAPPED IN THE FRONT to cause the 2 vegetable/fruit bins it supported to 'fall' and become cockeyed (dropping inward, toward the center next to each other); this made the veggie bins hard to pull out and made the bottom DELI bin impossible to pull out (since the 2 veggie bins above it were now sitting upon the DELI bin below them).

There was no problem with Whirlpool Customer Service to send out a new plastic center support REPLACEMENT part since this was well within the 1-year warranty period from the Manufacturer (and the Brandsmart 5-year warranty period). Installing this part was easy and at first we chocked this up to 'infant mortality' where a somewhat defective piece of plastic had gone bad...(but we were WRONG!)...I say this because just 6 months after installing the REPLACEMENT part from Whirlpool, the same thing happened again...the same plastic center support SNAPPED IN THE FRONT to cause the 2 vegetable/fruit bins it supported to 'fall' and become cockeyed (dropping toward the center, and making the DELI drawer impossible to open).

Examination of the failing part shows a very weak engineering design concept in my opinion...that a 1/8-inch-thick piece of plastic that's about 1-inch wide,front to back could support the contents of not one, but TWO Vegetable/Fruit bins. Everyone knows that apples, oranges, pears, lettuce, lemons, and nearly every kind of fruit or vegetable has some WEIGHT that must be supported, and in this case the weight of a normal amount of veggies and fruits will cause the breaking failure of the plastic center support over time (6-months in my case). I have never owned a refrigerator with such a flimsy support system for the vegetable drawers or had to 'estimate' how many pieces of fruit or vegetables I could safely ADD to the two bins to avoid this CENTER SUPPORT SNAPPING failure due to their weight. So now I have an expensive piece of stainless-steel fridge that looks great on the outside but is very poorly designed inside with respect to the CENTER PLASTIC SUPPORT that really 'CAN'T SUPPORT' much weight in the vegetable/fruit bins at all.

To make matters worse when I called up Brandsmart Warranty services for a new veggie-bins center support the girl I spoke with told me "THIS ISN'T SUPPORTED BY YOUR WARRANTY TERMS AND CONDITIONS"and that they would only support "ELECTRICAL AND MECHANICAL FAILURES of the fridge". When I questioned why a SNAPPING PIECE OF PLASIC THAT SUPPORTS TWO VEGETABLE/FRUIT BINS didn't fall into the MECHANICAL FAILURE category, she still denied my logic; when I asked to speak with a supervisor a man got on the phone and backed up the poor girl that first answered the phone... so I told the super I'd find a new place to shop the next time, and would never buy another Brandsmart Appliance or Warranty again! I reminded him that when I bought the FIVE-YEAR WARRANTIES for all my new kitchen appliances in January, 2012 the salesman told me they would cover "ANYTHING THAT WENT WRONG" with them...the Warranty Supervisor told me that I was "misinformed" and that I should have read the terms and conditions before purchasing the warranties. I told him that I'd believed their salesman to be an honest guy and there was no mention about 'not replacing broken plastic parts' within the appliances when he sold me the warranties. So much for Brandsmart Warranties!

The good news is that I was able to buy a replacement plastic center support part from a local appliance parts store for under $20 that included a "free replacement of the part for LIFE". I installed the new part and will now hope this replacement part will last more than the 6-month lives of the first two that broke! Honestly WHIRLPOOL, did you ever TEST for the breaking weight of this extremely flimsy plastic center support for your two vegetable/fruit bins before releasing this refrigerator for sale? In my opinion the only thing that will permanently repair this engineering flaw is a center support part manufactured from metal instead of the plastic part supplied. For this reason only I'm giving this refrigerator a '2-star rating' as the rest of it has been working fine so far. (knock on wood!!!)

We bought this fridge about two months ago as a replacement for a horrible Samsung that flooded our house. So far so good on this one.

It's big, with good-sized veggie and deli drawers, lots of tall shelves (once we took an extraneous one out), and a deep freezer. Everything seems to be kept evenly cool, except for a cold spot in the top middle where we found inadvertently frozen condiments. Now that we know, no big deal. The french doors work fine -the one that is supposed to be 'behind' the other will open/close independently with a bit of extra attention, and the alarm will let you know if you've forgotten it.

The only downside is the ice maker, which is ridiculously noisy both when filling with water and with chopping up the ice (or whatever it's doing). The capacity isn't nearly what you'd expect from such a big fridge; it runs out of ice after not many glasses. It has also jammed up with ice several times, requiring us to remove the ice from the top of the mechanism to prevent it from slowly melting into the little door tray all day. So definitely not a win in that department. But if you're mostly using the fridge as just a plain old fridge, then it's a good one.

We purchased our new house in Oct. 2011, and the home builder offered whirlpool appliances as part of the upgraded service. Since then, our refrigerator has needed service twice, both for the same reason. The pump that sends water to the ice and water dispenser stops working. For the price of this appliance, I was hoping for a little more than 16 months use and two service calls, but it may just be the house that is cursed, as our other whirlpool appliances have also had problems, including the dishwasher and range hood.

As others have mentioned here, the ice dispenser is really loud, and unless you hold the glass right up against the opening, you will have ice all over the place, and very little in the glass. The temperature readings seem to be off as well, as we have had bacon freeze in the meat tray at the bottom of the refrigerator, not the freezer. I mean frozen solid, even though we have the temp set at 41 degrees.

If you think this is the fridge for you, then by all means get the extended warranty...whirlpool wanted me to pay $350 to come out and repair my fridge for the second time, since it is 4 months past my 1 year warranty.

Received this wine fridge last night-so far it is fantastic! It shipped well and was in pristine condition when I received it. I let it sit upright as recommended for about 2 hours before plugging in. Empty it cooled from 78 to 55 degrees in about an hour. After I put my bottles in (18 total), it took about 3.5 hours for the temp to register back to 55. My single, minor dislike is that while the shelves are stated as being able to fit a standard sized pinot bottle, they seem a little narrow. Maybe I have larger bottles, I am not sure. I did take out one shelf and adjust the other five to give some more room and I also did not use the bottom of the fridge as a shelf. With the racks set up as you receive it, you can fit 24 bottles-using the bottom of the fridge gives you the extra 4 to make it able to hold 28. For the rows of bottles that we will be laying down for 5+ years, I removed the shelf above the row, put in the bottles and replaced the shelf-this let me get my bottles in with no lable damage. Overall I am very, very happy with the fridge. It is quiet and seems to have very little vibration and did not require any leveling.

**EDIT 6/10/13: I still love this product but have problems fitting my bottles in it-this has limited how many bottles I can store. A little disappointing condisering the cost and that it is supposed to fit a 'standard' size bottle. I will likely get a 6 or 12 bottle cooler just for my ready to drink bottles so I no not have to wrestle with the shelves just to get out a bottle of wine. I save labels so I really do not want to destroy a label just to get out a bottle. Great product, looks beautiful, runs well, but the shelves are just too narrow.

I bought Wine refrigerator unit (Capacity: Up to 235 bottles) in 2007 and since that it was broken twice and even though it's on 5 year warranty, WINE ENTHUSIAST refused to fix it for the second time it's broken and ask me to pay extra for the new unit to ship to me ( STILL UNDER WARRANTY!!!). Never buy here again, share my terrible experience with everyone I know. Spent 5 days on the phone with customer service and promise that their GM will call me back...never called me back. Very disappointed.

I don't know what you guys consider noisy, but thankfully I didn't take the advice of the two other reviews here (unless it gets louder as time passes?) The refrigerator isn't loud at all and I'm highly anal when it comes to things like this.

The door handles do have a point on them, but you will never feel it or know its there unless you run your hand around the "corner" of the handle which you will never do.

The one thing that is a tad annoying is the first shelf needs to be lowered to make room for orange juice to fit, thus making the second shelf only useable for items like yogurt, butter or something else not very tall. With that said, there is plenty of storage in the door which you could use instead of the top shelf. The bottom shelf is very roomy.

The refrigerator offers plenty of room to store cans, condiments and it has a huge drawer for cold cuts, packs of shredded cheese or whatever else you would store with deli meats.

The one thing I don't like is that the two vegetable drawers are not that deep. This seems to be a common problem on most refrigerators in this price range or lower because the compressors are on the lower part of the fridge thus taking away some space in the bottom drawers. I noticed this in any brand refrigerator I looked at in this price point.

My older refrigerator which was cheaper than this didn't have that problem. I guess they are made differently these days.

Nevertheless, I'm very happy with this purchase as I put a lot of research into the refrigerator and was hoping I made the correct decision.

According to consumer reports Whirlpool as a low repair rate which is good. However, they didn't rate this refrigerator very high. I don't know why, it isn't difficult to use as CI gave it a neutral rating for.

Did I mention it gets coooooooold. I set it at the next to coldest setting and its down to 30 degrees on the inside. I'm going to obviously correct the setting as that is a tad too cold. at least it has the ability to get cold unlike my old refrigerator.

The refrigerator does not have separate temp controls for the freezer and fridge which threw me off at first. However, I have a professional grade thermometer and it apparently doesn't make a different as the freezer is more than at the proper temperature. The

I've only had this unit (WRT359SFYW) for a few days, so I can't comment with much experience on how it works in day-to-day use. So far it's keeping my frozen stuff frozen and my cold stuff cold, so two stars for that. And it's not expensive.

The biggest drawback is that this fridge is quite loud. I know that excessive noise is a common complaint with modern refrigerators, and I have no way to directly compare the noise from this model from others. But this model is noticeably louder than the cheap 2002 Frigidaire it replaced, which was not exactly quiet in it's own right. With my open floorplan house (kitchen/dining area open to the living room) the noise from this fridge is very noticeable in the living room, 30 feet away. In the dining area, the noise dominates the room. The manufacturers have got to figure out ways to muffle these things. I'd return it in a second if I had a reliable way to find a quiet model, but I'm afraid they will just tell me "they're all like that".

In the refrigeration section, the shelves are too close together to hold tall items, even at maximum spacing. This is also a common issue with many top freezer refrigerators I look at--the whole refrigeration section is just too short in height. It would be better if this fridge was taller or wider and was not as deep, as space way in the back is hard to use, but more height is always welcome. This unit is so deep it doesn't fit too well in the standard-size fridge bay in my home.

I'll also note that many models in this price range include an icemaker as standard, where this one does not. Also, this model does not have separate temperature controls for the freezer section and the refrigeration section. And a one-year warranty? These are supposed to be "durable goods". It seems like many manufacturers have cut production cost and quality on refrigerators to the absolute bare minimum.

Edit/Update: I've had this unit for three months now. When it was delivered, it was not quite centered in my kitchen's refrigerator nook, but I didn't care enough to try to reposition it until now. Tonight I gently pulled the unit out and moved it back so it would be centered. As I'm rolling it back into position I hear a "snap" and the fridge lurches to one side. One of the rear wheels has broken or collapsed. Seriously?

I read several reviews before I decided to purchase this refrigerator, online, from a local hardware store as a wedding gift for my daughter. (These days I'm wary of the reliability of any new appliance purchase) From reading the reviews, I was fairly certain that the WRT359SFYW would be reliable & with an estimate of $37 yearly operating cost, it is in the top tier of the energy efficiency rating.

It has 13.6 cu. ft. fresh food compartment and 5.3 cu. ft. freezer compartment storage areas.

Although I knew that the glass shelves weren't quite high enough for milk cartons, I thought for sure there would be some sort of reasonable work-around for this problem. Well, I was wrong. The cartons do not fit on any of the glass shelves unless the cartons are laid down, or a shelf is moved down which makes the shelf immediately below too short, or a shelf is removed. The bottom glass shelf is roomy, but not tall enough for milk cartons. However the door storage comes to the rescue. The storage shelf & bins on the door can hold up to 5 gallons of milk. She currently has 3 half gallon cartons of milk in the door shelf; It looks to me like there'd be room for 3 gallon containers in this door shelf. There are also two moveable bins on the door that will each hold a gallon container, as well as, an area on the door that holds soda/pop cans, a covered area that will hold a dozen eggs in a carton, and the bottom door shelf area. She doesn't have much in the bottom shelf yet it is shallower than I'm used to...I'm not sure what it will hold because we moved storage bins down to hold the milk which took height away from this bottom shelf.

A see-thru pantry drawer which extends the entire length of a glass shelf is shallow, but tall enough to hold 6 oz. Yoplait yogurt containers, and of course, lunch meats, cheeses, hot dogs, spices from the red pepper family that should be refrigerated & small items that can get lost in a fridge, etc.

There is no light in the freezer. The freezer door shelves are narrow too, but we managed to squeeze 3 average sized bags/packages of frozen products in the door shelf. There is one shelf in the freezer. An optional ice maker can be purchased...the refrigerator did not come with any ice cube trays.

She hasn't used the crispers yet. (the crispers are not the same size, one is smaller than the other)

There is only one temperature control for both the freezer & the refrigerator. The delivery man set it & we haven't had to change it. So far, my daughter hasn't had any problems with food freezing in the refrigerator.

I found another annoying, strange design when my daughter stacked her cookbooks on top of the fridge. There is a piece that extends the door an inch or so above the top of the fridge...I guess it's supposed to be hiding the hinge...or maybe its purpose is to prevent items on the top of the fridge from falling off. Anyway, because of this odd piece, she can't read all the titles of her cookbooks when they're stacked on top of each other & will need to stand them up & use bookends.

The refrigerator is not loud.

The door handles are slightly off & don't align with each other.

This refrigerator can be frustrating to use because the glass refrigerator shelves aren't quite tall enough for half gallon cartons of milk & many of the drawers and door shelves are narrower than or smaller than any refrigerator I've ever used. Hopefully, the shelves & bins on the doors don't break, because then I don't know how my daughter will store milk...especially cartons that have been opened. She might have to remove a glass shelf. I read the review that said one of the wheels broke in a few months & another that mentioned a leak. I don't normally purchase extended warranties, but I did this time.

I don't know who's designing appliances these days, but someone needs to take the appliance home & use it before final design decisions are made.

I thought this fridge would be great when I got it--energy efficient, roomy, good for the space. And then I tried to switch the side the door opened on. This should be a simple process, but it wasn't with this thing--the screws were hard to reach, the plugs to cover holes were so flimsy they fell apart and couldn't be used on the other side, the freaking Whirlpool logo scratched the paint when it came off, etc.

All of this wouldn't be more than a nuisance, except that the screws themselves were very soft. As a result, I radished out a screw head the very first time, using--get this--a hand tool. That's pretty bad. The screw couldn't be removed after that, so I cut off the head and replaced the door minus one screw, figuring it wouldn't matter.

Of course it mattered--it mattered because the hinges are made with open holes for the screws. What, did they save $.0000002 on the cost of the metal by doing that? So, yes, the door fell off, the shelves broke--I've had this thing maybe two months, and it looks like it's been through a war. This was very disappointing, and I don't intend to buy Whirlpool again.

We bought ours from Home Depot and we love it. The ice maker is where it should be in the freezer compartment and its no sweat to open the drawer and get the cubes. More than we need overnight. Efficient our electric bill dropped when we replaced our 10+ year old Sears machine. Quiet, and it beeps when the door is left open too long as a reminder. We were restrained in the size by the space in the cabinet so had to but according to size. The old machine had water and ice in the door and that's terribly inefficient and the change is absolutely no problem. We use the filtered water from the sink anyhow. Highly recommended, even though we bought the extended contract because we were not familiar with the LG experience. Buy it.

Although it mechanically fits just perfectly (i.e. the plastic extertior is the same), it is not a 5231JA2006B replacement. It is a replacement to the inferior LG filter 5231JA2006A and possibly similar inferior filters.

The Swift SFG-LA50 and the 5231JA2006A meet standard NFS/ANSI 42 for reduction of chlorine, taste, odor, and class 1 particulates. However, the 5231JA2006B also meets standard NSF/ANSI 53 for the reduction of microbial cysts (harmful microbes such as giardia and cryptosporidium), turbidity (suspended solids), heavy metals lead and mercury, and industrial/agricultrial/pharmaceutical chemical pollutants including lindane, atrazine, 2,4-D (2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid), and benzene.

This was a direct fit replacement in my LG. The replacement process was simple and well described. The only inconvienence is not the fault of this product. It is always time consuming to run the needed amount of water through the new filters.

It did take a decent amount of pressure to turn the new filter to lock it in place. Not an unreasonable amount and at no time did it feel like I would break something. Nonetheless it is worth noting in the case you are surprised by the effort required.

Samsung DA29-00020B Refrigerator Water Filter, 1-Pack

Late last year I bought a fancy Samsung refrigerator the model RF4289HARS. It is the one with the 4 doors (actually two French doors on top, a middle drawer, and a bottom freezer drawer. It has the water and ice dispenser on the left French door just under the snazzy blue led lighted touch control panel. Anyway, the change filter light came on and so I removed the filter (it is really easy, just unscrew it a half turn and it comes right out) so I could see what the replacement part number on it said. It was DA-29-00020A. After looking around the internet, and looking on the Samsung website I found that there is no such part number the closest thing I found was almost the same number only ending with B instead of A. I called Samsung and after getting bounced to 3 different customer service people who had no idea whether part DA-29-00020A was the correct replacement for part DA-29-00020B and one customer service person who did not know that the filters are supposed to be changed after a while, I found a person who was able to tell me that DA-29-00020B is in fact the correct replacement filter for refrigerator model RF4289HARS. I bought two of these filters one to install now and one for a spare. I put one in (it takes about 5 seconds to insert it and give it a half twist to the right to install it, and then I followed the instructions of running about a gallon of water through it. You really do need to run this amount of water through it so get all of the air out of it so you get a smooth stream of filered water coming out. I then reset the change filter light you have to do this manually but all it takes is pressing and holding for 5 seconds (not the 3 seconds they tell you) the child lock/filter reset spot on the bottom left corner of the touch control screen just above the water/ice dispenser. It works great now tasty filtered water and flavorless crushed ice from my fancy refrigerator any time I want it.

I was a little worried about ordering the right filter for our fridge. But I called Samsung, as my filter was previously a 20A and this is a 20B. She explained, they are the same thing just a different batch. Soooo, thankfully it works! We love having the filtered water as where we live, there's a really bad sulfur problem!
