Cuisinart Power Advantage Plus 9-Speed Hand Mixer with Storage Case

Cuisinart HM-90S Power Advantage Plus 9-Speed Handheld Mixer with Storage Case, WhiteThis hand mixer is an upgraded version of the Cuisinart HM-70 Power Advantage 7-Speed Hand Mixer, Stainless and White which is recommended by Cook's Illustrated. That version, however, does not have dough hooks, which I specifically wanted in a mixer, since there are increasingly more and more recipes out there that assume the baker has a stand mixer these day and it's not easy to configure all of them to hand kneading. I currently don't have the budget for a stand mixer so I thought this would be a good compromise.

PROs:

Quiet. On lower speeds (1 to 5), it makes merely a vibrating noise. Even when I work with particularly stiff doughs, it still doesn't make a whole lot of sound. This is a giant relief for someone who is upgrading from a Black and Decker model which shrieks horribly on the lowest speed.

Powerful. I've made bread doughs with this machine, some of them quite dense. It always plows through them.

Wide range of speed. The number 1 speed is significantly lower than number 5 which is significantly lower than number 9. This is good for when you just want to combine ingredients without overmixing or having flour splattering every where. Also, stand mixer recipes that call for, say, "put the mixer on medium-low speed" can be easily adapted to this mixer as opposed to my old one, where all the five speeds are kind of the same.

Storage case. I appreciate the extra feature that helps me organize all the components.

CONs:

Dough hooks not very effective. Like I said, I bought this mixer specifically for the dough hooks, and they turned out disappointing. To make them work ideally, you would have to have two sets of hands, one to hold the bowl in place, and one to guide the mixer, imitating the actions of a stand mixer. I've managed to knead a number of dough with the hooks, but it does take understanding and knowledge of how the ingredients are combined to make it work. In lieu of fifteen minutes of hand kneading, you would have to run this hand mixer through the dough for fifteen minutes, so no improvement here. It might be helpful for a new baker intimidated by hand kneading, but it is no less difficult or laborious.

Cord is a little difficult to fold into the storage case. This is a very minor agitation.

Overall, this hand mixer is okay. The Cuisinart HM-70, $20.00 cheaper, may have been a better purchase. If you are looking to buy this mixer for the dough hook feature, I would advise against it.

This is my 3rd Cuisinart hand mixer in the past 5 years and you're probably wondering why I went back to this model after the problems with the first two. First, I liked the form and fit. Second, I had extra blades that would fit (after the first one broke). Third, I assumed the problem was a glitch (each time). On the first and last mixers, the motor just quit without any reason or problem that I can determine it didn't happen because of "bogging-down" in heavy batter. On my second one, the soft tab speed button tore and water leaked in it quit working. Also, I don't think the wire blades "do" mashed potatoes as well as flat blades that actually cut through and break potatoes up into a smoother, less lumpy mix. Another problem that no one else has mentioned is that even though it has a slow start setting, it takes a couple of seconds to kick in! So, initially it starts at a medium speed and flour is all over the counter before it slows down and behaves as advertised. I've finally learned to hold it out of the bowl until it gears down.

We have owned and used this Cuisinart mixer often during the last 4 months, but have become so aggravated with it that we will not use it again. The problem is that rather than having a "slow start" feature, it instead has just the opposite -an annoying "fast start". The "slow start", which Cuisinart's older models (no longer sold) actually implemented very well, is supposed to let you begin mixing without your ingredients being thrown out of the bowl. However, this model (HM-90S) does exactly the opposite -when you turn it on it instantly surges to a fast speed, and then slows down to speed #1 as you marvel at the mess that it has made of your kitchen.

Others have pointed out that you can avoid this problem if you turn it on before you put the beaters in the bowl. However, our frequent use has revealed the true source of the problem: It appears that Cuisinart has implemented a "cruise control" feature, attempting to keep the beaters spinning at the currently selected speed regardless of the load on the mixer. The consistent behavior of this mixer is that if the actual speed of the beaters is ever below the currently selected speed, the mixer automatically tries to compensate by strongly surging the beaters to try and catch up. This is why it surges when initially turned on. As well, the mixer will similarly surge (and surge again) throughout the mixing process if you attempt to mix anything that is unevenly thick (like mixing something thinner into something thicker) -the mixer will instantly surge and throw your ingredients out of the bowl. While the mixer certainly has a strong motor, and the attachments and storage case are nice, its behavior is so aggravating that it is useless.

To see the supposed "slow start" feature for yourself (and to prove that our unit is not defective), watch the video on the product page here on Amazon for this mixer. The woman from Cuisinart demonstrating the mixer has the nerve to brag that it has a "smooth start" feature, as she turns the mixer on at it instantly surges to the fast speed and then slows down to speed #1.

These are the best beaters I ever owned. I like the "no splash" start on the number 1 setting and the digital display to advance in increments all the way up to a powerful number 9 setting. Pretty light weight to handle yet very powerful. Does a wonderful job and the self contained see-through storage case is extremely attractive and convenient for storing everything neatly in one place. I highly recommend purchaing this product.

Want Cuisinart Power Advantage Plus 9-Speed Hand Mixer with Storage Case Discount?

I got my hand mixer almost a year ago as a Christmas gift. I use it at least weekly and it is still going strong. Here is what I like

*9 speeds makes any job possible

*Beaters thin but strong and not placed too close together so that thicker batters can move their way through and things like bread dough are less likely to climb up.

*Motor is strong. It doesn't whine and powers right through tough things like cream cheese (even when you don't let it soften as long as your suppose to.)

*Nice storage area. This doesn't make or break the deal for me. It's been nice not to rummage through the drawers looking for both beaters though.

*The latch release So glad I have to deliberately lift the leaver to release beaters. I don't accidently remove them by pressing the button like on other beaters I've had.

* Cord It is a decent length and it swivels around. I have lots of little helpers in the Kitchen and the cord is long enough and rotates around so I can maneuver the mixer with all the extra hands helping me mix. I'm not saying the cord is long but not too short.

*The appliance is solid feeling. Nothing flimsy about it. That means that it isn't exactly light weight but it isn't cheaply made.

Wisk I've used it to make whip cream and a meringue. It did a wonderful job.

Here are a couple observations/complaints I have.

* The kneader hooks They don't work at all for me at all. When making bread I use the beaters until I have a nice soft dough then knead in my last cup or two of flour by hand.

* Slow start not so much. It starts up at like a 3 speed then quickly goes back to a 1 speed. I still have to make sure my beaters are firmly planted in whatever I don't want to have fly around.

Why did this mixer still get a 5 star when I have complaints? I cook for 5 boys everyday, I make dinners for teachers at the school, I make treats for friends and neighbors...and this appliance has absolutely made doing that much easier. It is simply the best mixer I have ever used!

I've read a couple more reviews and just want to add a couple comments. I am almost always cooking with kids and don't feel it is dangerous at all. When using any mixer you have to watch those little fingers. Also about the beaters falling out...there is one hole that is fitted different. That is so the wisk fits in properly. You will notice on your beaters that their tops look slightly different. This determines which hole they go in. If you put the beaters in and they fall back out...you did it wrong. Switch it around. I've done that and the beaters have fallen in the batter, bummer, but it just made me be more careful inserting them the next time. It wasn't a big deal at all. Also, I have never noticed the beaters not mixing at a consistant speed and I have had many awesome smooth batters (which made very delicious treats too!). Regarding one more review, I don't have any problem fitting everything in the plastic container. I do have to organize it somewhat not just cram it in but it all fits. That's it, the end, I'd still buy this mixer...infact right now I'm looking at it for my sister because I love mine so much!

This refrigerator has very clean look when closed. It is bright and spacious when open. There is a bright light in the top. There is a light in the fruit/veggy drawer. There is even a light in the freezer. All the drawers glide smoothly. The split shelves are easy to move to make it as efficient inside as possible. One shelf pulls out and one pushes half way in. There is also lots of space in the doors. The w i d e cheese/coldcuts drawer has it's own temperature control.

Pros

Except for the compressor (and two coolers) and a few fans the only other thing to break is the ice maker. No other gadgets

Didn't know if I would like the bottom freezer, but I found it easier to use than a top freezer.

Maintains temperatures as set. The freezer runs cold (-10F) while it is filling the ice tray.

Yes you can hear it run but by no means is it noisy.

Cons

The bottom freezer is only a little bigger than the old top (19cu ft) freezer.

If the unit doesn't fit in the 36" wide area measure the refrig. My first one was 36.5" not 35.6".

This fridge has nice features (lots of space, LED lighting, looks great), but it is the noisiest refrigerator I've ever been around. The compressor makes noise for about 40 minutes out of every hour and it's loud! Even the repairman I had out to look at it said "that is pretty annoying, isn't it?". It couldn't be fixed, so I returned it. If you are sensitive to noise, skip this fridge. Otherwise, it's great.

Dyson 36 Flexi Crevice Tool

Dyson 36 Flexi Crevice ToolI originally was only intending to get the flexi crevice tool. Luckily, I bought some others, too, that ended up being worth the whole experience. The problems with this tool are 2-fold. First, it's not nearly as flexible as I need as it doesn't actually bend but is only just not completely stiff. Second, the bristle end quickly gets clogged with dog hair and dust, so that I have to keep clearing it. With as many dogs as we do and a continual battle with black widow spiders (the messiest webs around), I'm still depending heavily on the regular crevice tool and then going back over with flexi crevice tool when cleaning under and behind appliances. But difficult angles, such as a semi-flush ceiling lamp, still elude me without getting all the way up on a ladder.

THIS IS A GREAT TOOL FOR: 1. CLEANING CONDENSER COIL ON HEATING & COOLING

UNITS ON FURNANCES.(used only when condensers are dry)

2. CLEANING THE RIDGE ON FLOOR BASEBOARDS.

3. VACUUM INSIDE THE AUTO.

4. IN BETWEEN APPLIANCES AND FURNITURE.

Buy Dyson 36 Flexi Crevice Tool Now

I'm using this tool unextended mostly. It's a little longer than the crevice tool that came with my DC21 canister, so it works for some uses. The flexible part is too floppy and kinks shut if bent too far. Also the little brush for the end is almost worthless. Get a little cat fur in it, and it clogs instantly and is difficult to unclog. I took the brush off. I don't understand why the Dyson crevice tools have holes in the opening. It would seem to me that dust would blow right out. I emailed them, got a canned reply that they'd get right back to me, and never heard from them again.

On my old vacuum I used my crevice tool every time I cleaned under the stove, under the fridge, sofa, etc. So when I saw that the dyson came only with what I would consider to be a mini crevice tool, I ordered this flexible one. It sounded great in the description and I thought it would be very useful. Well, I'm much less impressed than I thought I'd be. I used it once and my opinion is that it really isn't flexible. The "flexi" part is made of rubber similar to one of those black rubber tie-downs with the hoods on each end. When you flex it, it bends completely shutting off air-flow. Since it pinches off, I don't consider this flexible. I expect flexible attachments to bend without interferring with the performance of the product. This tool sits in my cleaning closet now very rarely used. A side note its in my cleaning closet because there is no way to attach it to the vacuum itself. :( Not what I expected from a Dyson.

I bought this after reading mixed reviews.I used it to clean out the car and I would give it a mixed review also. Not perfect but not useless. When extended the black rubber middle section can close cutting the suction off, so you have to watch how you hold it.I worked well for cleaning out parts of the car.I would have given it 5 stars if you could completely remove the end piece and not just the rubber brush head. I found the width of the tool head to be too wide to clean between the seat and console or that area between the bottom of the car seat and the carpet when you have the door open .

Vinotemp VT-TC32SB 32-Bottle Wine Cooler with Digital Display

Vinotemp VT-TC32SB 32-Bottle Wine Cooler with Digital Display
  • Wine cooler stores up to 32 standard-size bottles of wine
  • Dual-paned glass door; stainless-steel trim and handle; 6 storage racks
  • Digital display with adjustable temperature settings; interior light
  • Front-venting exhaust; built-in or freestanding option
  • Measures 23-1/4 by 15 by 34-1/2 inches; 1-year limited warranty

Not buying this brand again. I bought a different (older) Vinotemp 32 bottle fridge. It broke after one year (one side didn't work). Really had to get it fixed, customer service atrocious, and if you've ever had to hire an electrician that will fix a wine fridge, you know that it's not worth it (expensive and very very time consuming).

To top it off, they are pricey. In this price, go for a Maytag or other better known brand. Or spend less and get a Haier. Can't be any worse.

Was excited to receive this cooler as a birthday gift, but it quickly turned into a nightmare.

The temps do not adjust as the manual states, white wine only gets to slightly below room temp.; I wound up calling customer service at vinotemp only to be told to leave a voicemail for someone to call me back, I left several messages, no one called me back; I finally had to insist to speak with someone and when i did get a person, they read off an entirely different manual than the one that came with the cooler and was ready to argue with me than assist me.

I returned the wine cooler and would not recommend this brand to anyone.

Bought from lowes love it. Perfect size. Lots of compliments. In remodeling i put this unit in and it made my kitchen.

Want Vinotemp VT-TC32SB 32-Bottle Wine Cooler with Digital Display Discount?

First, this is the same model as VT-32 wine fridge just different shelves.

I did a lot of research when looking for a wine fridge. I needed a specific width to fit in my kitchen, and wanted to stay within a reasonable budget. Well, now I wish I trusted the reviews about this model who warn you that it is super loud. My dishwasher is quieter than this monster! When it turns on I can hear it from my bedroom on another floor!

In addition, the temperature fluctuates a lot (+/5 degrees from what you set it on), which I don't care about much since I don't store expensive wines. But if you do this is something to consider.

We wanted to get rid of our old ugly trash compactor. This unit fits perfectly in the space of a trash compactor. The only thing we had to do was remove the feet, then it slid right in.

It looks fantastic! I hope it doesn't burn out in 18 months like I have read about some of the other vino temp products.

It runs a lot. I'm hoping it doesn't run our electric bill up. It only goes down to 45 degrees. That may be as cold as one is supposed to drink wine, but we would really like it a little cooler.

Wine gets hot really fast in Texas.

The best thing about this unit is the way it looks. Matches our Samsung appliances perfectly with stainless steel front and blue lights.

Danby 3-in-1 Party Center

Danby 3-in-1 Party Center
  • Solid, stainless steel French doors, toe-kick, and Euro-style handle.
  • Produces 4.4 lbs of ice per 24 hours and stores up to 8 lbs.
  • Built-in, under counter application.
  • Dimensions: 23 13/16"W x 34 7/16"H x 25 5/16"D.
  • Capacity: 8 lb of ice, 12 wine bottles, 60 cans.

Great looking, and love the LED light inside, when the door is open. A little noisy when it's running, but I had read that before I bought it. Makes ice great and faster that I thought it would.

Only complaint is that the larger side where it holds beverage cans, temperature will not go below 45 degrees. I'm going to have a tech come out to see about the thermostat (under warranty). Also, 4 year warranty only available in Canada.

Nostalgia Electrics KRS-6100SS Kegorator Double Tap Beer Keg Fridge, Stainless Steel

Nostalgia Electrics KRS-6100SS Kegorator Double Tap Beer Keg Fridge, Stainless Steel
  • Holds the following keg sizes/capacities: Up to two 1/6 barrel (5.23-Gallon) kegs, one 1/4 barrel short (7-3/4-gallon) keg, one 1/4 barrel slim (7-3/4) keg or one 1/2 barrel (15-1/2-gallon) keg
  • Stainless steel with black finish and 6.0-cubic feet of interior space (can be used as a standard refrigerator)
  • Includes two American Sankey "D" double tap systems, double meter regulator and 2-1/2-pound Co2 tank (unfilled)
  • 13-Inch chrome beer tower and guardrail with removable stainless steel drip tray
  • Adjustable thermostat

This replaced an old 3 tap Beverage Aire Commercial kegerator I had go out on me. I didn't want to spend $1500.00+ for a new commercial quality one, so I opted for this unit. I'll list the Pros and Cons as I see them.

First the Pros...

1) Has (2) taps.

2) Looks good.

3) Good range of temperatures (approx. 33-40 degrees F.)

4) Uses half the power of my old kegerator.

5) Actually hold (3) home brew kegs (5 gallon).

6) Good quality dual gauge regulator.

7) So far seems to be reliable.

Now the Cons...

1) Co2 tank is too small (2.5 lb). It should come with a 5 lb. tank. (I have a couple of 15 lb. tanks so not a big deal for me)

2) Cheap quality beer lines. (I recommend you replace them w/ 5-6 feet of 3/16" I.D. high quality beer line)

3) Cheap quality gas line.

4) Standard brass faucets. (I replaced w/ my S.S. Perlick forward seal faucets)

5) Black plastic top seems cheap.

6) Drip tray does not fit properly around the beer tower. And it just sits movable, not fixed on top.

7) Casters are too small and don't rotate well.

Of course these are just my opinions and going from a commercial quality kegerator to a residential type, I have lots of nit pick things about it.

All in all, I would recommend this to people who would like a little variety instead of the single tap single beer at a time.

Buy Nostalgia Electrics KRS-6100SS Kegorator Double Tap Beer Keg Fridge, Stainless Steel Now

Overall I'm happy with this kegerator. It keeps the beer cold and was easy to setup. I will add a few caveats. First, I'm using homebrew corny kegs so I did not really test or use the tubing or keg fittings that they provide. Maybe I will some day, but that wasn't my intent. Second, the beer tower will not keep the lines cold. This is not unique to this product, but similar for all kegerators in this price range. (Hot air rises) I built a cheap fan to circulate cold air there and things are working great now (just look for cooling keg tower on the internet). Third, for me in particular, it took a lot of trial and error with keg pressures and beer tubing length to get a good poor without it being all foam. So, while I feel the product is good, know that it is probably not as simple is just buying it and it will be perfect from day one...

There were two negatives from this kegerator to call out. First, the CO2 cylinder is only 2.5lbs which won't last very long. I already had a 5lb one, so I can live with it. Second, the taps are not great quality and are prone to being hard to move. My learning shows that this won't happen if purchasing higher quality taps, but it's still usable so that can wait. At least this can be upgraded later.

Read Best Reviews of Nostalgia Electrics KRS-6100SS Kegorator Double Tap Beer Keg Fridge, Stainless Steel Here

Unfortunately when I was purchasing this item there were no reviews to warn me. I should have returned when I opened the box and saw all the dents to the exterior of the kegorator. Now I am past the return window.

Within 60 days we had to replace the tubing and gauge. The gauge didn't work and the parts to seal the tubes were cheap and ineffective at sealing.

For the last 60 days there has been an increase in the noise generated by the cooling unit. The cooling unit now sounds as though whole thing is going to fall apart.

Don't think that buying this unit will save you money. In the long run buying any other kegorator is better. It may cost more up front but at least you don't have to dump money into it every couple of months just to keep it working. I previously owned a Haier and wish I had purchased one again.

Want Nostalgia Electrics KRS-6100SS Kegorator Double Tap Beer Keg Fridge, Stainless Steel Discount?

This kegerator disappointed me enough to log in a write a review. This may be a great Kegerator for people who purchase a keg with the beer, but this is not good for the homebrewer. This will not work with the Cornelius Kegs(corny kegs or soda keg). You will have to replace all the connectors off the tap and completely rebuild the lines from the CO2. Basically for the homebrewer, you are buying this for the fridge and double beer tap. The CO2 tank, regulator, hoses etc are a waste of money. I was unable to return it since it took us 4 months before we took it out of the box. We had a remodeling job in our house and we decided to wait before we put it together. That was a big mistake on my part, but I was able to make it work for what we need. The unit itself is very nice, but since we were unable to use any of the equipment that came with it, I feel we over paid. A homebrewer would be better off building one or buy one that is made with the connections that are required for the corny kegs. One other thing, the instruction are crap.

im not knowledgeable about kegs at all so i did some research before purchasing this as a christmas gift for my fiance. it seemed like you could get beer in a 5 gal keg but its not the case. the idea was to have a light and dark on tap at all times but with limited availability its just not worth it. the first one came SEVERELY damaged and was sent back. amazon overnighted me a replacement and it had a small ding but i was gonna keep it.... until i found out about the limited availability. sending the second one back and the single tap should be here today, just in time.

Whirlpool 8212547RP 5-Feet Pex Ice Maker Hook-up Kit

Whirlpool 8212547RP 5-Feet Pex Ice Maker Hook-up KitThis product works exactly as expected. Installed in less than 5 minutes. I originally bought a kit at the hardware store that was going to have to be cut to size, etc, but this was just plug and play. Would highly recommend.

This is one of those little pieces of hardware that exactly fits the job. Installation was simple, and no leaks or any problems to speak of.

Our fridge has an ice maker, but we didn't like the chlorine taste (the fridge doesn't have a built-in filter) and so we got an external inline water filter. This hose runs from the water hookup to the filter, which then connects to the water input on the fridge through the hose that came with the fridge.

Haier HNSB02 1.7 Cu-Ft Refrigerator/Freezer, White

Haier HNSB02 1.7 Cu-Ft Refrigerator/Freezer, White
  • Compact-size refrigerator/freezer with a 1-2/3-cubic-foot capacity
  • Slide-out wire shelf, door-storage shelves, half-width freezer compartment
  • 7-setting adjustable thermostat; reversible door with recessed door handle
  • Manual defrost; drip tray for quick cleanup; ice-cube tray included
  • Measures 18-5/8 by 17-1/2 by 19-5/8 inches; 1-year limited warranty

When my small refrigerator arrived FROM AMAZON DIRECT it was in bad shape. I could tell it was brand new by the smell and some packaging but the box it was in was terribly damaged. Oddly, the box was sliced open around the entire bottom (like maybe it was inspected?) and then strapped together with merely 2 plastic straps for packing expediency. Then when I cut the straps to lift off the box the door of the frig had a gouge/dent in it and paint pealed off there so it may likely rust. I don't know if Amazon or the shipping company are to blame. SO aesthetically, it isn't pretty but it does seem to be functioning ok so far. No, I'm not going through the hassle to send it back... I have more important things to do with my time. Disappointed Chris

This refrigerator arrived in the poorest package I have ever seen for a product of ths type. The packaging had virtually disintegrated. The box was very poorly made and did not properly protect the product. There was damage that clearly was not the fault of the freight company. The result was the product was scratched and dented. To return it I would have had to find a box and completely repackage it so it wasn't worth the trouble.

The refrigerator works well enough.

I would not buy this product again due to the poor packaging.

Within two weeks this fridge would stop working intermittantly. Had a mind of its own. Shortly after it died for good.

I called to talk about repairing it, and the fees for shipping it in are $24. The rep on the line was trying to discourage me to do that as if she felt herself it was a waste of money. I didn't. I am not wanting to pay another quarter of the price for a fridge that I had not been able to use and will likely break down again in the near future (it seems to be really cheaply built). I am taking the loss on this one.

This is a small refrigerator, good the sodas and small items. But it works fine (slightly noisy) and was a great deal for the price. Though the packaging wasn't great, it arrived in perfect condition. Would definitely recommend for a dorm room or office space. My 17 year old son put it in his room.

This is a dependable, well-built mini-refrigerator at a good price. It looks and performs exactly as advertised.

Koldfront 16 Bottle Thermoelectric Wine Cooler - Platinum

Koldfront 16 Bottle Thermoelectric Wine Cooler - PlatinumI'm posting this review because of my extreme dissatisfaction with this wine refrigeration product line. Two years ago my husband purchased the Edgestar 28-bottle fridge for me as a Christmas gift. We were so excited with the product that we raved to everyone about it. The following Christmas it was all my parents wanted. We purchased this smaller 16-bottle Edgestar for them. Not two weeks later ours died. My husband is quite handy and called to purchase various parts to repair the unit--over $100 worth--to no avail. We were devastated to throw away a brand new unit just one year after our purchase. I spoke with my parents last night and found to their utter disappointment now theirs has died too--just one year after we purchased it for them. This is TWO units that died immediately after a one-year period! These products are not inexpensive and were a costly investment to preserve our favorite wines. We are disappointed in the quality of Edgestar and have vowed to never purchase again from Compact Appliances. We are also planning to warn all of our wine-loving friends in the wine classes we attend to not purchase the products as well. What a disappointing Christmas!

I bought this cooler because it had the lock. The lock is a joke. A 2 year old could get into this cooler. A simple removal of 2 screws on the bottom of the cooler renders the lock useless. Simply pushing down on the jamb also releases the door. Don't buy this cooler if the lock is important to you!
