SquareTrade 4-Year Appliance Protection Plan ($250-300)

SquareTrade 4-Year Appliance Protection PlanSquare Trade has handled my two claims in a fair and expeditious manner each time. Their claims representatives are knowledgeable, pleasant and professional. Could not ask for a better warranty product!

Square Trade offers a really great service with their protection plan. I bought an item that stopped working within a few weeks of purchase. The Customer Service representative made the return simple, fast and he couldn't have been more friendly or concerned about me being satisfied as their customer. The plan definitely paid itself off. I highly recommend purchasing this plan on any electronics, big or small because you just never know.

I've purchased several warranties with Squaretrade over the past couple of years. To be honest, I bought them with the thought that I'm most likely wasting my money because I'm sure this stuff isn't going to break during the coverage period. I was wrong. My new washing machine literally came apart during a spin cycle after less than two years and was beyond repair. When I called the claim in the service was pleasant and hassle-free. Within a week I had a check for the full coverage amount. I am very thankful that I am not out $700 for a new unit and will definitely be getting another Squaretrade warranty when I get my new machine.

I've purchased five different warrantees from SquareTrade in the past six years.

Just last month two covered items broke. Our Samsung tablet slide out of it's case and landed on the floor. The glass was shattered. The tablet was only 5 months old. I filed my claim online on a Wednesday. SquareTrade emailed me a UPS paid label, which I affixed to my package and dropped off at my local USP store on Thursday. I was fully expecting to go shopping for a new tablet over the weekend. I received an email on Friday that they had received my package and that they would contact me asap. On the following Monday they sent an email letting me know that the tablet was repaired and on it's way back to me. I received it the next day, Tuesday. Just like new.

The day prior to dropping the tablet, our Whirlpool washer wouldn't spin. I had purchased 5-year coverage from SquareTrade, thinking that with all the computers in everything nowadays, the extra $160 was well worth the cost (and about the same as to what the retail store was offering in price). The machine was 14 months old (two months out of manufacture's warrantee). I filed a claim online and within 24 hours a response came indicating that SquareTrade was looking for a local repair shop. We have three kids 6 years-old and younger and without a working washing machine, the dirty clothes plie up really fast. I decided to call a local Whirlpool authorized repair shop that came out the next morning. He determined that the motor was shot and the replacement cost was more than 50% the cost of the washer (not to mention that it was a two week wait for a new motor!).

I called SquareTrade by 9:30am ET and spoke with a very nice lady. She apologized that I had to pay the repair guy to come out as that is something they do directly. She said SquareTrade would cover that cost for me. She asked me to take a picture of the repair invoice with my phone and email to her, which I did promptly. One hour later she called me back and told me that her adjuster would look at my situation the same day. Before the end of the day she called me again and said that SquareTrade was going to cover the original cost of the machine (plus the $75 repair bill). Two business days later my PayPal account was credited with the entire amount (and a check was sent to me for the $75). It was nice that the same SquareTrade rep called me each time!

The moment that she told me they would honor the warrantee in full, I went to the retailer and bought the same machine (I know, but the repair guy said he has never seen a motor blow in my model of Whirlpool before). I asked the retailer about their extended warrantee, which was 5-years and $80. The process of working thru a claim did not sound as smooth as what I just went thru with SquareTrade. I declined the extra warrantee. I took the machine home, promptly installed it and commenced washing 12 loads. The following day a SquareTrade email arrived with their famous 30% off coupon, and I bought another 5-year warrantee for $109.

SquareTrade has a customer for life. (do you offer coverage for cars yet?)

GE WR57X10032 Water Valve for Refrigerator

GE WR57X10032 Water Valve for RefrigeratorAfter researching causes for not getting water through the door I had ruled out the line being frozen. My tests showed that the relay on this valve was getting energized yet there was barely a trickle of water coming out so I assumed the valve needed replacing. A new valve did not solve the problem. The root cause was the fitting that holds the water filter. One of the tubes leading into the fitting was plugged, preventing filtered water from reaching the valve I had tested.

Ordered, installed product within 10 minutes. Easy, no hassle. Great product, cheap on Amazon, and fast delivery!

Yet, the new product was not was I needed. The water dispenser was not dispersing water. I replaced the water valve as attempts to the easy route. Still had the problem!

Similar to other posting, my issue was water line inside the door freezes. Remove the kick panel below the refrigerator and freezer doors and look for the water line disconnect just behind the front panel near the freezer door hinge. Disconnect the water line and shut the door. Press the water dispenser and see if water comes out of the water line at the bottom where you'd disconnected the water line. If water comes out, you'll need to just turn the refrigerator off and leave the door open for about 45 minutes and that will allow the door to heat up enough that when you connect the water line to the door again, it should start to dispense water again. Using a hair dryer to warm up the door is also very useful.

I replaced the LG filter that came with the fridge with this product. We ran the proper number of gallons through to flush the new filter , however the water still tastes like chemicals. My tap water unfiltered tastes better.

I did the standard 2.5 gallon flush before using the water for drinking. I cleared the first set of ice with the new filter in.

The water is great, no taste, much faster flow then the original filter

I typically am not even a big Heineken fan, but my wife got this for me, and I figured what the heck. The 5L mini-kegs sell for seventeen bucks at my local grocery store, and you throw one in, let it cool overnight and you are good to go! It's not cheaper than buying 'regular' beer cans/bottles but the novelty, convenience, COLDNESS and a great draft pour are why I usually keep a second (or third) mini-keg in a small refrigerator just in case a party breaks out. The only reason this is not a 5-star review is because you can only get Heineken & Heineken Light currently...I hear Newcastle Brown is in some test markets though, so hopefully that will change soon.

First off I will say that I have always wanted one of these but have always cringed at the price tag, now that the price tags have dropped on virtually all the Beertender models I feel this machine is a worthwhile investment. Besides the price drop another noteworthy update to this device is the fact that now other, non Heineken beers are available to be used with these machines, A VERY BIG PLUS. Go to any good beer store and you'll see differing kegs around, they just need to be 5L or lower & pressurized. I've heard here in MI there's even a couple smaller breweries with mini kegs becoming available (BELLS OBERON!). My next point is this, even with the price drop, stick with this unit. It does the same job as the more expensive Krupps models at a quarter the cost. Hey I admit the digital readout, clock and symbols on the Krupps models make the whole unit look more techy and futuristic but in the end they all cool to the same proper level and all dispense brew at its best. I'm not even a big Heineken fan, I always found it to be sort of skunky, but my bud had one of these and when I tried it I was hooked. There's just no substitute for that true Draught taste. Also if you store your keg in the fridge before you drop it in your Beertender it'll be at optimum temp in a couple hours, not overnight. It's one of the greatest new at home bar devices. Many will swear allegiance to the "kegerator" with its added CO2, gauges and tubes but they're just too big and bulky for me & my bar. This thing is perfect for me, drop in keg, attach tube and drink, SWEET! Don't get lazy and not look for deals on these too, I found one locally new, at a chain store for $55, yeah that's right, for that price you can't go wrong.

Amendment 2/10/10: The Bells style kegs, and other kegs that use the "gravity" style spout (stand keg up and open spout at bottom) do not work with these units, MAJOR BUMMER. As previously stated the kegs have to be 5 Liters or less and be pressurized. Although that brands kegs are not compatible, now there are more choices to choose from than just Heinie, although I've found not everywhere sells them.

The novelty of having "draft beer" on my counter has been a nice edition. As some of the other reviewers have said, I am not a Heineken fan (though I am aiming to try Newcastle next) but this system made the experience much more enjoyable. My theory, and I am not alone on this, is that the bottled version is way over carbonated and this system seems to have the right balance.

My biggest complaint is the lack of availability of accessories and beers. In order to extend beyond 6 rounds (which is typically less than a 12 pack of bottles each) I have to order tubes in packs of 6 at $9.45 per pack plus shipping. When you tack that cost on to the mini-keg cost (around $18-$20) your per beer cost has gone up to almost a bar price (ok, maybe at happy hour).

Will I continue to use it? Probably, the "fresh" beer is too enticing.

At the least Heineken should create a larger pack of these things so I don't have to keep adding up my shipping charges.

I got this unit for father's day and really loved it. You can put a warm kegg and it will cool overnight or just set an already cold kegg and be ready to go.

Mine lasted about 14 months and broke, same problem as all other users, it just quit working. I received an extended one time warranty from T-Fal, which was fine, but the company repairing the unit took 3 1/2 months to fix it, absolutely terrible!

After the unit came back it worked for another 12 months and broke again.

Honestly it would be a best seller and a must have if it wasn't for the reliability issues. From what I read it doesn't matter if you have a T-Fal, like in my case, or Krups, both have the same issue and many unsatisfied customers, and the product isn't cheap.

Heineken as such a famous and powerful company should step up to the plate and take the necessary actions to push those manufacturers to make a better product that continuously works, like any refrigerator. Am I asking too much?

While I would never advocate disobeying the manufacturers recommendations, I bridled at the cost of replacing the tube with each keg. If you look closely at the attachment to the keg itself, the tube is held in place by three locking portions of the rim. Directly above each, is an open slot. If you put a small screwdriver into the slot and gently pry outward, the lock is released and the tube can easily be removed. There is no way to rinse out the tube, but this has not proven necessary. I have reused the tubes many times.

Frigidaire FRU17G4JW 16-2/3-Cubic-Foot All Refrigerator, White

Frigidaire FRU17G4JW 16-2/3-Cubic-Foot All Refrigerator, WhiteWe've had it for 2 weeks.

Door is soooo hard to open that the handle is loose now. I can see that in weeks it will break apart. We called the store back and they are to come check it. I tried vaseline as recommended by a tech (not from store) on the rubber seal, and did nothing to ease the opening.

Also it is verrry noisy. I can hear it from another room. It also start on/off very often. I'd be surprised if the compressor lasts 5 years at the rate is is going on/off and it is not even set as super cold. And it meets all Frigidaire's recommendations for installation.

Would I recommend? No

Would I have bought it knowing this? No

But we're stuck with it.

Edited to update:

Finally found a way to make the door easier to open after trying multiple things. A regular straw that cut the size (height) needed and just put it inside top door (on seal), taped with a tiny piece scotchtape. The hole in the straw prevents the air to be sucked in causing the door to be almost unable to opened. The straw is squeezed when closed but the "vaccum" effect no longer exists and door opens normally.

Also called a technician who told us how to open the door knob plastic cover to tighten the screws. Now all is working perfectly.

Another thing that is annoying is the fruit/veggie basket. Only one huge compartment. No way to separate fruits and veggies. And it has large spaces between rods so everything tends to fall out the fridge. Not practical. All baskets (fruit and top ones) are all grids. So we used plastic cardboard (found in any home improvement store) cut to the size of the drawer to act as a bottom. Otherwise it was impossible to have anything stable. I think engineers must not cook/use fridge a lot to design such poor drawers!

But it still remains a noisy fridge. I would not buy it again but it does the job it is supposed to do: keep food at decent temperature.

The Amana replacement icemaker water valve was/is advertised as a "universal" replacement for the manufacturer's original equipment. The replacement, however, has different water line fitting connections. This required substituting parts from the old valve to make the new valve operable. Fortunately, the old valve failed due to electronics. Had the failure been in the physical water line connectors, the "universal" replacement would have been a completely useless, and somewhat falsely advertised purchase.

Took the old one out, new one in without changing anything. Shipped on time and arrived on time with no damage to product.

Fixed the ice maker no fill problem. Factory part fit perfectly so repair was easy. The original part was color coded to the electrical connectors to keep ice maker filling and drinking water dispenser connected properly to the correct valve. This repair part does not have the color coding but if you are at all careful removing the old part this is not a problem. That's the only think to watch out for.

I would rate it zero stars but that is not allowed. So upset with this fridge that I had to track it down every where it's being sold and let the world now about this piece of junk. My original review of this product is on sears.ca. The icemaker is junk. It broke twice under warranty. Repaired each time. I had a choice of extended warranty and I chose not to because I thought the defective ice maker was replaced so it couldn't possibly break again. It did, right after the warranty was up. It will cost $480 to have it replaced. The storage compartment for meats/wines etc does not keep its temperature. It says it can store meats (deli meats I assume) and I set it at deli meat storage temperature only to have the meat go bad. Now, I usually only keep stuff like milk and eggs in there short term. Water dispenser dispenses warm water. It looks very pretty though, but don't let that fool you.
