Whirlpool Ice Door Kit 8201649 NEW 2180205 4388659 purchased 8/29/11 was received sooner than expected. As previous reviewers had mentioned there were no instructions. I found these instructions helpful:

1.Find the two notches that are at the bottom of the dispenser cover on the left and right side. Pry off the cover with the flat-head screwdriver.{Yes, the front panel should just snap off. If you look under the bottom edge there is often a couple small slots. Put a flat blade screwdriver in the slot and pop the front off."

2. Find and remove the two screws that are used to secure the white switchplate with the screwdriver. Pull the switchplate out of the door and set it aside.

3. Remove the front cover assembly to access the ice dispenser housing. Locate the ice dispenser lever and take it out of the housing. This will expose the door mechanism assembly.

4. Press on the torsion spring and take out the door mechanism assembly.

5. Examine the door mechanism assembly to see if the pin that is used to open and close the ice door is broken. Pull out the broken pin and insert a new pin that is included with the ice-door kit.

6. Place the door mechanism assembly back in the door and make sure the torsion spring is set into the ice door correctly.

7. Re-attach the ice dispenser lever and then set the front cover assembly back onto the door. Set the switchplate back in place and secure it with the screws.

8. Place the dispenser cover back on the door to complete the project.

Kit is installed and working well.

As said before, this is an inexpensive fix to the ice chute freezing up. Directions are not included other than replace all parts. I just used my camera phone to take picks of old setup before I removed the parts so I would know how it went back together. Hardest part is getting the front trim cover off of the door to expose screws. Be real careful prying from the bottom slots so as not to break the very expensive trim, then it just slides up with only 1 connector to unplug to remove it completely. Very easy fix once trim removed.

This updated part is a great improvement over the original one as it seals much better & ice will not stick to it.

I did the replacement myself, but first watched the YouTube videos (there are several) & took notes I would strongly advise you do the same.

**If I had it to do again, I would snap a picture before removing each thing just to have a point of reference & sequence when reassembling.

Hardest part was step 1: removing outer frame; the rest is relatively simple.

Unless your ice chute is cracked or broken, save your money & wash the old one while it is out it'll be good as new.

When you get finished, remember to PLUG IN your refrigerator & PAY YOURSELF the hundred bucks you just saved!

The panel to the opening was old and defective, looked used. The rest of the parts looked cheap. I would not use this kit to fix your ice maker door.

EdgeStar 80 Can Built-In Beverage Cooler - Black/Stainless Steel

We purchased this EdgeStar 80 Cooler in July 2012. Within weeks the temperature inside began creeping upward. We emptied the contents, and unplugged the unit, hoping to "reset" the thermostat. After a day we plugged it back in and it cooled down to 39 degrees. Again after several days the temperature began creeping up. We repeated the process, and noticed that there was ice forming in the back wall of the inside of the cooler. Over the next month we repeated the process, thawing and plugging back in.

We finally called the company today, Oct 24, and were told by the service manager that it only has a 30 days labor warranty. We would have to find our own refrigerator service person, have them look at it, and that person could call and order parts. Edgestar does not have service people they work with or recommend.

I explained that the unit had never worked properly, and he said there was nothing he could do, because the unit was more than 30 days old. He stated that the company was giving us "excellent customer service" by telling us to find our own service person.

The unit is worthless. The company, located in Austin TX is worthless. The service manager would not even direct my call to his superior, stating that I could call back as many times as I wanted, and he was the only person I would be able to talk to.

I had hoped that by buying a product made in the USA, it would be a quality company and service. Do NOT do business with this company.

EdgeStar 80 can beverage cooler has great capacity and runs quietly. It has had some problems in the few weeks we have owned it with maintaining its gasket seal, so temps have risen. We otherwise like it.

I guess the bottom line is that this product simply did not live up to my expectations. I didn't by the least expensive models I found because I was afraid they would not maintain the desired temperature. This unit advertises a selectable range down to 38 degrees. Unfortunately, it has a thermostat that shows the actual temperature, which, in my experience is usually between 40 and 46 degrees, depending on the external temperature. To be clear, this unit is in an interior room in a very well insulated office building, but if the outside temp is over 8i0, the unit isn't going to be under 40.

We purchased this product a couple of months ago. We actually returned a cheaper unit (diff brand) and upgraded to this beverage cooler because it was exactly the size, look, and quality, we were shopping for. Its worth the money. Has a blower built in to keep drinks cold. Plus ventilated holes in shelving for circulation. Looks high-end and has cool LED lighting inside! Would definitely recommend this product.

With the exception thatthe wiring harness was about 1cm too short and I had to use the wiring harness from the old ice maker, this part worked perfectly the first time. My old ice maker was leaking and causing freeze buildup on the ice tray. Replaced with this part, and old wiring harness took about 15 minutes and a philips screw driver. Please note that you have to take the entire drawer of the freezer apart to conveniently get o the ice maker assembly, and it is critical to get the gears back inline with the notch on them for them to work perfectly. two thumbs up from me on this one.

Easy to install and has been working like a charm for a year now. I would certainly recommend purchasing this item.

This was the second replacement ice maker I've installed in this refrigerator. (Other than the ice maker, the refrigerator has worked great.) The first replacement I bought was an Amana from the dealer. It cost $116. You do the math.

I had trouble plugging in the wiring harness, but otherwise it was a simple installation. (Unlike other reviewers experiences, the wiring harness was a trifle too long and hung down below the unit.) After a day, it still wasn't producing ice. It could have simply been that it took an extra long time to cool down to operating temperature, but I decided to use the wiring harness from the unit I replaced. A few hours later it was pumping out ice.

This ice maker works better than the original. Periodically I have to shut it off because I have too much ice. Great performance at a cheaper price. Would that everything was this great of a deal.

TIP: I put the temperature control for the freezer unit between four and five. That seems to be the optimum for the ice maker. Cooler and it tends to freeze up. Warmer and it slows down.

I figure this unit will last two and a half to three years. Trays in ice makers used to be made of cast metal and would last the life of the refrigerator. Now the trays are made of plastic with some sort of coating which allows the ice to release easily. With the constant and heating and cooling the coating eventually breaks down. Prior to breaking down, you'll find bits of plastic in with your ice. The surface of the tray becomes pitted and will eventually be unable to release the ice. When you start seeing those plastic bits in with your ice, save yourself some time and buy a new replacement unit.

My freezer has stunk for the last couple of years and I have never been able to figure out why. G.E. refrigerators I have had in the past have never smelled like my Maytag does. I have been using baking soda in both the freezer and fridge to help get rid of the smell but it never fully disappeared. I ordered this unit for work, so I wouldn't have to keep buying soft drinks from the vending machine. It does work in that capacity, but there are some annoyances with it, and some limitations.

First I'll start off with the positives. It's lightweight, and it's really attractive. It also does cool things pretty well. I can't comment on warming things up, because I haven't tried it.

The negative part is it is quite large for what it can hold. And more than that, the insides don't hold temperature very well at all after you power it down. It warms up way too fast. Also, unlike a compressor based refrigeration unit, this thing is on all the time. Lastly, you are only supposed to run this for 48 hours consecutively, after which time you need to power if off for one hour. This is not stated in the description, but is an annoyance.

So, overall, it's not bad, because it does keep things quite cold, and you can put most things in it (2 liter bottles you have slant a little). Particularly at work, it can save you money, and give you a much better selection than the vending machine since you can bring in whatever you want. You will also get comments on how beautiful it is; it's that attractive. Just be aware of its imperfections so you won't be disappointed.

I bought two of these and as an electrical engineer I can attest that the circuit board inside the can is cheaply made and poorly designed; the cord heats up after a while and the unit will eventually die. This mini-fridge is defintely a fire hazard. If you buy this, you should invest in a timer to shut the unit down for an hour or two per day, maybe 2AM to 4AM.

FYI:

I also bought the Pepsi Can fridge and it is a beast. I never unplug the unit and it has been running for 6 months now. It is a little smaller than the Coke can (which is great) and it does not have an ugly AC/DC converter brick (not shown) hanging from it like the Coke can does. The Pepsi can's power is converted internally; only a cord is exposed and not any ugly power brick.

Update: Both Coke Frigdes died in less than 4 months of constant use. The Pepsi Fridge eventually died after 7 months. I recommend to stay away from these fridges. They are great to look at but they are NOT made for everyday use.

Update2: I opened up the two Coke fridges and the Pepsi fridge, and realized a biasing capacitor blew in each. I went to RadioShack and bought replacement caps, and now I have my fridges back. Easy fix for those who can de-solder a part from a small circuit board, and replace it with an equal (or better part). I bought capacitors with a higher breakdown voltage (100V rating), so it will be able to take a little more abuse.

I got this for Christmas and it stopped working after 6 months. I called the manufacturer (Koolatron) and they said it only has a 90 day warranty. When I said it's only been 6 months, they said that the refrigerator was from China, so it wasn't warrantied past 90 days. They offered that I could buy a new motor $30 or new AC adapter ($40). Don't buy this please. You can do a lot better without the hassle. I also had to buy a little thing that turned it on/off every night, so the total cost of this thing far outweighs its cuteness.

This beverage cooler is NOT SILENT. The compressor was defective. It started making noise not long after I got it but I didn't seem to mind...as time went on the noise got louder and louder. "ZERO STARS!" I purchased this Edgestar 118 Can Beverage Refrigerator 14 months ago. What a mistake. Don't be fooled by it's good looks, glass door, etc.

It just stopped working. Dead....nothing! Besides that, it was always noisy when it worked. The warranty on this product is only for 90 days. One year on parts. So I called them, and they will not do anything. Even if it was within the one year you would have to send it to them, which will cost quite a bit in shipping costs. I called around to many appliance repair centers and none of them were even interested in looking at it for repair.

I realize that the unit is out of warranty, but shouldn't something that you pay good money for last more than a year??

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS!

Beautiful mini-fridge. Durable quality case/door. Everything appears nice, and I was really happy when I got it. I didn't notice the noise problem a few on here have mentioned. Mine was pretty quiet.

Holds a LOT of beers/pop/etc.

But, sure enough...1 month after my one year warranty expired, my unit died.

It's almost too expensive to fix...but too nice to throw out.

I have a repair company coming out tomorrow who said they'll fix it for $150. But to buy another new one, I'm looking at $300..
