For starters, stop reading reviews prior to 2011. The early issues with this kegerator have been addressed to the point Nostalgia really should assign it a new model number. As reported by others the regulator is now a pretty nice dual gauge unit, with a lockable output valve. Meaning once you get your CO2 settings dialed in you can lock the knob so it doesn't get changed accidentally while changing out a keg, etc. Also, the unit is dead quiet.

The instructions have been completely revamped and are very easy to follow. All the spare parts provided have been labeled in the manual, no mysteries there either. Before this arrived I downloaded a PDF copy of the old instructions, and it's true the early buyers were basically left in the dark.

I followed the instructions, charged my tank, threw in a 1/4 barrel, and no problems at all. The beer has a perfect head on it, and my monitoring of temps have been hovering around 34-35f. That's with the thermostat set to maximum, so I'll be watching that closely. I don't want my beer to freeze!

A few things to note:

1) The keg tower rubber washer (#5) was not already installed, and is not really mentioned in the manual. Be sure to install it otherwise there's not a tight seal between the tower and fridge and cool air will escape. You'll know if it's not on because the tower installs too easy and doesn't feel tight. The nice side effect of this design is that the tower is basically cooled, so less stale beer in the line.

2) A 5 pound CO2 tank will fit with a full 1/2 barrel, and can be bought at a local gas supply or welding shop filled for about 50 bucks. Refills on the tank are around $9. The 2.5 pound tank shipped is fine, and I'll be filling it so I have a full tank at all times. The 2.5 pound tank should be able to dispense 2-4 1/2 barrel kegs, the 5 pound tank 4-8 1/2 barrel kegs. Tighter fittings, lower CO2 settings, more kegs...

3) The casters are optional, and there are already self leveling feet installed if (like me) you prefer the unit to be shorter and stationary. Height to the top of the fridge door is exactly 31 inches without the caster installed.

Anyway, given all the features and the insane price of $380 shipped I can't see how anyone could be unhappy at this point. All the negative reviews made me really ponder this purchase, but I'm happy to report they're all talking about a different product. I'll post a follow up at 12 months, or before if I experience any problems.

NOTE: I've updated this post in March of 2013, after a year of ownership. My basic feelings of the kegerator are still the same--but I just wanted to update some of the information provided in this review. In summary, I did end up replacing the regulator with a higher-quality one.

This is an excellent kegerator. We purchased it as a Christmas gift for my dad, and we are currently on our second half-barrel of lager! I was a bit skeptical of this based on previous reviews, but as many reviews state, Nostalgia had changed some parts and old issues are no longer present with this model.

LOOKS

We all think it's a good looking unit. Nostalgia offers the same unit but with a stainless steel door. I decided against the stainless steel model because we currently have stainless steel appliances and they show smudges and fingerprints easily. We keep the kegerator in our garage so the black is more appropriate. This unit also features a rounded front door, so the keg partially hangs out when the door is open. Most other kegerators have a flat door, which makes the whole unit looks larger. It is also not the highest quality appliance you will find, as the internals of this unit seem to be a bit plasticky, especially next to a nice, expensive refrigerator. But if you temper your expectations, you will be very happy with it.

ASSEMBLY

The instructions are a bit frustrating. Each section doesn't seem to be in proper order. Also, there are plenty of extra little parts that come with it. I still don't know where they all go, but it's good to have them I guess. My best advice to get it up and running as soon as possible:

* first have a keg ready to go (call a local beer store, and have them order and hold a keg of your favorite beer until you're ready for it--it may take a few days for them to get the keg if it is not in stock).

* Unbox the unit and put the casters on (not too tightly or they will be difficult to spin).

* Plug it in and turn the thermostat to the coldest setting.

* Get your Co2 tank filled up. I took mine to a paintball place, but you can also try a welding or outdoor sport shop. If you're still stuck, call a hardware store for some suggestions. Also, the beer store you're getting your keg from may swap Co2 tanks.

Take your time with assembly and read the instructions carefully. It may be a bit frustrating at times with all the different sized washers and parts, but keep at it and you will work through it just fine. At first, I used nylon tape on the fittings, but later found that there is no point to this, as the various washers in place are there to stop leaks, rendering the nylon tape unnecessary--but there is no harm in doing so. I had a tough time getting the tower on with the rubber washer (the instructions didn't say to put it on but it is in the parts bag, and the tower doesn't fit right without it). I recommend putting some dish soap on both sides of the washer, put it in place, stand on the left side (when you're facing the unit) and hold the unit in place with your knee while you push down hard and turn the tower clockwise until it locks. It may take a few tries and some effort but it eventually fits snug and will help keep cold air in.

REGULATOR

Past complaints have been about the regulator. The old regulator was a single gauge--this newer one is a dual gauge. After a few months of usage, I decided to replace the regulator due to it allowing the keg to become over-pressurized despite my low-psi setting. The Co2 pressure SHOULD remain constant throughout the life of your Co2--if you are constantly fighting the pressure, get rid of the regulator and buy a new one. Over-pressurizing your keg will waste Co2 and end up costing you more money and frustration anyway. After some research, regulators from Micromatic seem to be held in high regard, so I went ahead and purchased one from their website (dual-guage, premium, part #642). If you do purchase a new regulator, remember to get a new gas line and barbed tip so you can connect it to the keg coupler--Micromatic sells all of this. I've had zero issues since changing the regulator. Also, the regulator I purchased was a bit larger than the stock one, so it may be a tight fit depending on your keg and Co2 tank sizes.

Remember that when you have a new keg, the keg is already pressurized somewhat, so you will need very little Co2 pressure through the first few pours until the keg pressure is relieved, or alternatively relieve the pressure using the pressure relief valve on the tap. After that, you will have slower pours, which is your cue to turn up the pressure. Don't turn it up too high or else you will get foamy pours. There is a relief valve on the regulator to reset the pressure which is helpful during adjusting. There is another relief valve on the keg tap as well, which can also help troublesome pours. This kegerator comes with a 5lb Co2 tank, but it was quickly swapped out for a larger tank. It may be a good idea down the road to get a 10lb tank and keep the included smaller tank as a spare.

Another note: always remember to use a nylon washer between your Co2 tank and the regulator. Failing to use a nylon washer will result in a leak. If you swap your tank at a beer store, they will likely give you a washer. The Micromatic regulator I've described above has a permanent washer in place.

THERMOSTAT

Some reviewers wrote about modifying the thermostat by removing the cover on the thermostat and adjusting the little screw. I would recommend taking a wait and see approach to determine whether you need to do this--you don't want to adjust it too much and unnecessarily freeze up your beer (most beer freezes around 28-29 degrees). I ended up waiting 24 hours before I gave the adjustment screw a clockwise turn, waited a few hours, then checked again (my keg was hovering around 40 degrees, I was shooting for about 36). After the adjustment, the temp has been steady around 36.

THERMOSTAT ADJUSTMENT

Here is how to get to the adjustment screw: first, unplug the unit, then on the back of the unit, turn the temperature dial to the max setting, then pull the knob off. Now, remove the two screws that hold the thermostat housing to the side of the kegerator. Then remove the two screws to take the thermostat off of the housing. Then on the thermostat, there is a small phillips screw above the temperature adjustment dial. Turn it once clockwise to go colder, counter-clockwise to go warmer (just one turn was all I needed). Put everything back together, plug the unit back in, then wait a couple of hours before you check the temperature and make another adjustment as necessary.

After a year of ownership, the kegerator has remained cool and reliable.

CLEANING

An important topic that I did not previously cover in my original review. Make sure you buy a nice kegerator cleaning kit (I recommend this one: Beer Line Cleaning Kit). You will want to keep the beer lines clean, otherwise, bacteria from the beer line can creep back into the beer, causing the beer to go bad. I recommend cleaning the lines after every keg change--it's a simple process of disconnecting the lines and running a cleaning solution through the lines, as well as disconnecting the tap and cleaning some of the little parts. There are also little parts for attaching to the tap to cover the tap opening when not in use for extended periods of time--they can be easily found on Amazon.

I have not had any shipping/packaging issues that other reviewers spoke of. I also have not had any reason to contact Nostalgia customer support.

NOTES: Some issues people commonly have, especially when they are new to kegs, are that the beer either comes out too slow (which basically means you're out of Co2 or don't have enough pressure), or the beer comes out too fast (meaning too much Co2 is in the keg), resulting in a foamy mess. Firstly, your regulator has two gauges--one, (the left side) gauge, shows the pressure coming from your Co2 tank, and the other (the top gauge), shows the pressure you are delivering to the keg. Typically, the left-side Co2 tank gauge reads anywhere from 500 to 1000 bar psi (which will vary on the tank temperature), and it is perfectly normal for the tank to read in this range when it has enough Co2. When your tank begins to run out, it will quickly hit zero. And when you're setting up a new keg, the pressure may fluctuate a bit as the system normalizes, so while the correct pressure may be set once you first hook up a fresh keg, checking back an hour or two later, you may notice it needs readjusting. This is normal.

Now, in the event that you over-pressurize your keg, it means you have way too much Co2 in there, and as a result, your beer will come out very fast and very foamy. Some reviewers blame this on the kegerator, but really it is their own fault. The simple solution is this: close the valve on your Co2 tank as well as close the switch on your regulator. Then, find the relief pin on your keg tap (you have two relief pins--one on the regulator, one on the keg tap). Pull this pin hard (helpful if you use a pair of pliers) and it will slowly release the pressure in your keg. It may take a minute or two, but the pressure will slowly die down. When the pressure is relieved, start pouring beer until the pour is too slow (it may even take a few pitchers more of foamy beer, but it will get there--be patient). Finally, when the pour is too slow, open your Co2 tank valve, then turn on the regulator switch to the open position as well, and finally slowly adjust your Co2 on the regulator until you get a nice pour. It may take a while and readjusting in an hour or two, but be patient!

Finally, when your keg is kicked, close off the valve on your Co2 tank as well as the switch on the regulator to avoid losing any Co2.

Overall, I think you will be very happy with this unit. It's one of the cheapest ones you'll find on the internet, so as long as you take your time setting it up and do your research on this unit to find out its quirks, you will be happily pouring fresh, draft beer in no time!

I was a little hesitant buying this kegerator because of some of the bad reviews it received from this site and others. However, I trusted Amazon to take the return if it came in broken or did not perform. I've had this item for about 2 weeks now and I have to say it works beautifully. If you are concerned about the following items don't be:

Thermostat does not keep the beer cold enough false, I've had to turn down the fridge because it was TOO cold. Did not modify it at all.

Regulator only has one gauge false, this kegerator came with a dual gauge regulator.

Slow shipment false, ordered with prime, shipped 3 hours after I ordered it, packaged very well.

CO2 tank held by cheap band false, CO2 tank is held by a plastic mesh and fits very nicely in the back.

Overall this has surpassed by expectations for a kegerator under $400

I ordered this item on September 14th. Didn't get delivered until October 4th. Way out of the time range that was initially given. Product information made it appear that all you would need to do is supply the Keg and get the CO2 tank filled. WAY OFF. The "regulator" that comes with the Kegerator doesn't regulate ANYTHING its simply an off on switch for the CO2. After spending 2 days wasting beer I took it to my local tavern and confirmed what I already thought. So I had to drive to my local Beer Supply store and spend an additional $50 for an actual regulator. Then I experienced the problem that any regulator you buy doesn't connect to the supplied air hose as it should. Next stop Ace hardware where i purchased new tubing and fittings (another $10 down the drain). Upon affixing my new regulator and air hoses I realized that the beer comes out WAY too fast causing an excessive amount of foam. Last trip to Ace Hardware and got a water flow restricter for another $3 and now at long last i finally have a fully operational kegerator. Cheers and have fun.

So I was skeptical to order this kegerator, but after reading some of the more recent reviews I decided to take the plunge. Unit arrived in 3 business days, and didn't take too long for me to put together.

I ordered a 1/2 keg, and went to my local welding supply to get the CO2 tank filled.

When I put this kegerator to the test I was initially disappointed that it seemed to be hovering in the 46-48 degree range. I tried to pour a beer, but it just had too much foam.

After reading some recommendations on some forums, I took the faceplate off the thermostat, and then found the calibration screw. I gave it a few turns clockwise, and waited an hour. When I came back the temperature was now 42 degrees. With another couple turns of the adjustment screw the unit was staying in the 36-38 degree range no problem.

After attaining the proper temperature, the beer poured PERFECTLY at ~9.5 psi. Very excited I was able to get it working, and now I can relax and enjoy fresh draft microbrews at home :-D

P.s. As other reviewers have stated there is a rubber ring that goes under the tap tower, but it does not tell you to install it in the instructions. The tower isn't very sturdy unless you put the rubber ring under it. Once I put it under, and twisted the tap tower to lock it in, it was sturdy and solid.

Avanti BCA31SS Beverage Center (BCA31SS)

My husband had been wanting his own private beer fridge with a glass front and an internal light for a long time, and after doing a lot of research I decided to go with this particular fridge. Mine came well packed, and without any dents or cosmetic damage from shipping (I ordered it here from amazon).

It really gets cold, and does a good chilling drinks. If you set it to continuous, it can start to freeze your drinks. I didn't realize this at first and I had a bottle of sparkling water explode into a slushy mess inside, but it was easy to clean up. It has 8 settings, the dial has 1 through 7 and continuous, and I find that setting it to a 5 or 6 is good to keep drinks cold but not too cold. The only downsides are that when it rotates on and off, it can make a little bit of noise, but it's not very loud and I don't really notice it anymore, and the shelves are a little bit flimsy. If you pack it full, the shelves start to bend and sag in the middle.

Other than that though it does a good job storing different sizes. The bottom can hold full sized champagne bottles, and the middle can store glass beer bottles, while the top can store cans. It works perfect for us, since we like to stock all three types.

Overall for the price, it does a good job. We are definitely pleased. My husband loves it!

[edit] The fridge died on 12/1/12, just 11 months after purchase. It was making a loud snapping noise every few minutes but the compressor wouldn't turn on. Since it was within warranty, the manufacturer sent a technician who replaced the part that starts the compressor. He said these fridges are equipped with a super cheap part that will almost guaranteed break down, but it's an easy fix if you can get a repairman in the door. Once he got the part from his car it took him less than 10 minutes to have it working again and out the door. As of 5/1/13, it's still working fine.

For the most part this product works as expected and has been reliable after several months now. My one complaint it that the wire shelves are flimsy. When loaded up with bottles, they start to bow in the middle and the bottles slide forward and fall off. Works fine as long as shelves are not filled more than about two-thirds with bottles.

Update October 2012. Died after 16 months.

I needed something to fit in the old space where a trash compactor was in my kitchen. It looks very nice and sleek, better than I even expected. I am satisfied with my purchase, but wish it were a bit quieter and kept the drinks a bit colder. That being said, I am now used to it's "hum" and the kids and husband find the temp just fine. It is great for juice boxes, cans or wine bottles... the interior allows for a flexible arrangement. We even have oranges in there now. So overall, 4 stars as a second drinks fridge.

If you want a refrigerator, order one. This is a drink COOLER. It is quite tall so it may sit above the height of most office furniture if you plan to use it as a stand-alone. It is a very good looking unit. The LED lights on the inside don't offer a uniform illumination but do have a pretty blue hue.

The fridge itself will accommodate anything from sodas to full sized champagne bottles, however, you may want to get some additional organizer racks for soda vending as the unit is set upmore like a standard fridge than a vending machine.

The unit is quiet, elegant, and efficient. It does not make ice. Again, if you want something that gets your drinks ice-cold you will have to do without the glass front.

Simple and straight forward, do not buy this fridge if you wish to cool anything to a temperature worth calling chilled.

There is 8 total settings for this fridge, 0-7 & ON. The ON option will simply run the fridge compressor %100 of the time. The other settings are for varying temperature settings which should allow the fridge to cool when needed to meet the desired temperature. The problem is that anything less than ON doesn't cool a drink in this fridge to anything less than cooler than room temperature.

As other posters have mentioned working with Avanti is impossible, they might as well post no warranty at all since nothing seems to qualify for replacement.

I took the risk but take my word, don't bother. There is a reason the GOOD"beverage" fridges cost what they do ($400-$700) and I now consider this the low-end of functional working classy looking beverage fridges. Otherwise if you don't want looks go get a Sanyo from Costco, those at least work as they claim and you can get a warranty that covers something, specially customer displeasure.

Save yourself some money for the long run, buy a real fridge and spend a little more money and get what you pay for, a quality product from a company that takes pride in their customer satisfaction and will resolve your problem or offer resolutions when their product is still under warranty.

Worst purchase from Amazon ever and it isn't even their fault. If I had simply returned this thing when I got it instead of working with support I might be happier. Instead I now have a giant cube in my home which can turn my grape juice into wine or a Popsicle but the lily hood I will get a nicely chilled beverage on a hot day from this machine to my liking is highly improbable, I have not yet obtained the level of chill I was looking for. Approx 36-42 degrees F would be nice.

The item says "1 MICRON" in huge yellow letters, under that a in blue smaller print "2 LAYERS NOMINAL FILTRATION", then in tiny light grey letters it says "1st Layer 10 Micron Inner layer 5 Micron".

I am not too upset, they were only 10$.

Living in the country does have its draw backs. We started with iron water and then put in a cistern to collect rain water. It did have one problem which was some soil and leaves which were not trapped by the initial filter. But the 1 Micron filter clarified the rain water and we are absolutely spoiled to have rain water to wash dishes and clothes. The most wonderful thing about these filters is when you take a shower the water is actual clean rain water which leaves your skin and hair soft and your shower sparkling.

I selected Complete Filtration Systems from Amazon's marketplace vendors for my 4-pack. I received 4 Flow-Pro FPMB1-978 1 micron filters. I was pleasantly surprised that this part number has an NSF symbol on it. This filter is for my well water since I live in a rural area. It is replacing an Aqua Pure 5 micron filter that did a pretty good job of removing iron sediment from my well water for 9 months. The Aqua Pure cost me $15 at the local plumbing store.

Prior to the Aqua Pure 5 micron, I had a GE FXUSC 30-50 micron filter but it barely lasted 3 months.

I'll see how long the Flow-Pro lasts. I'm especially curious about how much of a flow reduction I am going to see in the next few months, since the Aqua Pure 5 micron was pretty consistent throughout its service life. At the price of $10 for 4 filters, I can afford to change a filter as often as every 3 months.

3-month update: my circa-1982 well/pump was on its way out, yet completely filled up two of these filters in the past 2 months when I overpumped the well a few times this summer. Now I'm on the 4th filter after replacing my 1-hp well pump. The filters would have lasted much longer if my well wasn't having iron/silt and pump issues. I'm still very satisfied with these filters, and just ordered another 4-pack. It's nice to have clear water coming out of the faucets and showerheads.

I bought this for my RO system which has clear containment covers so you can look at your filters and judge the need to swap them. At this price, having clean water is dirt cheap.

Other than the great price, a major pro is that each filter is individually wrapped, then the 4 are re-wrapped keeping things clean. I'm uploading a picture of the 3 filters I changed in my R.O. system after just 6 months. That doesn't seem like a long time, but please look at the uploaded photo to see the importance of changing filters regularly, including the 1 micron and the carbon block filters.

My only regret is that amazon does not stock a complete 5 micron / 1 micron 4 pack set because most all water filters start with a 5 micron to get rid of the pipe buildup, scale, and the junk the city sends you. Then they pass through a 1 micron later (along with perhaps a carbon block) to protect the r.o. membrane. So to do an effective change you really need both 5 micron and 1 micron in the same quantity for any water filter (air filters can also use these on high pressure / flow compressor installations which makes them very flexible as a filter media)

A kit with a 5 micron, the carbon block, and a 1 micron would really be nice as it would deal with 90% of the RO systems 6 month change intervals. My in line TDS meter has gone from 4 ppm output to 14 ppm so I know its time to change numerically also. Someone should kit together the 3 pieces needed for most RO systems as they are cheap and simple to buy.

I don't believe these are 1=micron sediment filters but they are as good or better than the 5-micron ones I was using. We will see how long they last between changes.

After extensive research to find a worthwhile & affordable wine chiller, this product hits the mark! My criteria for purchasing any chiller was that it had to:

Fit under countertop with nice appearance

Have Dual zone temperature

Have Front vent placement to prevent burnout

Come from a Credible manufacturer

Cost Under $1,000

I simply could not find any other wine chiller that met all of these needs. Summit is a great brand (from kegerator experience), and the capacity of this fridge is PLENTY (trust me) for those who like both red & white wines.

The fit & finish is rock solid, while the inside is beautiful with red-stained wooden support beams & blue LED lighting. The white wine temp range is from 40-50F, while the red wine temp range is 50-64F.

The chiller fit perfectly--just snug enough--underneath the countertop & flush against its neighboring base cabinets. You will need to make sure you install an additional grounded outlet very low in the wall in order to plug this item in and have it pressed directly into the back wall, but it will look & function great once it has been installed.

A couple precautions for prospective buyers: 1) Beware of any wine chillers that do not have a front vent placement if you plan on placing this under a countertop (your compressor life will be shortened). and 2) do not place this item directly next to a heat-producing item such as an oven or dishwasher (this will also shorten its life and reduce its effectiveness).

Purchased this product because we wanted a dual zone under counter unit. While it's a very nice looking unit that is reasonably priced for its dual zones, and the only one we could find that had an a physical separation between each zone, it's very noisy. In addition, judging by the temperature monitor on the face, the temperature zones seem to fluctuate about 10 degrees either way without apparent reason. We set the red at 60 degrees but often it reads as low as 54 degrees and as high as 64 degrees. Same for the whites albeit at lower temperatures.

Summit SWC530LBIST I have had this cooler for over a month now and have mixed feelings about it. I did not purchase it from Amazon but wanted to write the type of review that I wish I had seen before purchasing this unit. The few reviews I found for it, said that it did the job and wasn't too noisy. I guess I have a different opinion about acceptable noise levels. It looks nice and chills wine just fine, but the compressor is very noisy. It is in my kitchen and I do not have it mounted in a cabinet yet so that could contribute somewhat to the loudness.

This unit has 2 fans that are mounted inside the cabinet. They look like the same type of cooling fan that you find in a computer case. The bottom one is fairly quiet but the top one is another story. It cycles on for 10 seconds and then off for 10 seconds 24 hours a day. It has a loud whine when it starts and a loud whine the entire 10 seconds it runs. The only time you don't hear it so much is when the compressor is running because the compressor is very loud!

So while it does a nice job of chilling wine (and surprisingly there is a temperature difference between the top and bottom "zones"), it just might drive you a bit crazy listening to it if it is within earshot!

What you actually get is an updated filter for newer refrigerator models. DO NOT use the filter you receive (which is a Frigidaire PureSource 2) if you are actually trying to get is a Kenmore WGFC 2000 part number 9911. It will leak all over the place and when you try to use your in-door water dispenser the filter actually forcefully ejects itself!!

This Item is what I ordered because it was advertised, but the seller stated that they no longer carry, or make this item. The product they did send was from Fridgidare, This cheaply made replacement( Fridgidare) was made in Singapore. Kenmore products are made in USA, and are better quality. The Singapore product is no where even close in quality. The Singapore product does perform so far, but is overpriced, this is just my opinion. But I will no longer order water filters for my Kenmore from Amazon, or APPLIANCE TECH PARTS. APPLIANCE TECH PARTS the co. I purchaced the product from. I was so disappointed with the product I received. The Fridgidare item was very hard to push in my unit. The part that goes into the unit is only half covering. The filter is white, so you can not see the inside. I liked seeing the inside of the filter, so I knew is was performing correctly. Why was one item advertised, when it was no longer made, the picture is of the Kenmore product, made in USA. This is very deceiving to customers. But this is just my opinion.

OK, I ordered new water filters WF2CB, because they supposedly no longer make 9911, they shot out, hit me in the head, broke jar of olives, they lied when they say that Kenmore no longer makes replacement water filter, I called Sears,1-800-4myhome, and they said that Sears still makes replacement parts for my refrigerator, now I have ordered it, jeepers, I can't wait till I see it, I even went to Sears in person, and they do not have the correct filter in store, Home depot, only has the Pure Source 2 by Frigidaire, I guess you must order this correct item from Sears by phone. So if someone tells you, it is no longer made, they are lying to you, but wait, I just ordered it, must wait and see if it is correct one. I am sick of liars, I just hope Sears is being honest with me.

These filters fit perfectly, and seem to provide the same level of filtering received buying the name brand one for almost 2x the price. I will be ordering these in the future. I did not do a water sample test through a laboratory but based on taste, we cannot tell any difference.

Just had to try these given the significant price difference between the original equipment Samsung filter and these. Hmmmm-appearance is nearly identical, it fits perfectly, no leaks--okay, time to get some water! I grabbed a 44 ounce white Styrofoam cup that I use to refill the dogs water bowl and what I saw immediately caught my attention. The water was significantly grey. After reading the instructions I discovered that 'some presence of small carbon pieces may be visible due to shipping'. I set aside that cup and grabbed a new, clean 44 ounce cup. That one is grey as well. By the time I filled my FIFTH cup (that's 220 ounces of metered water), I now have clear water. Not sure if there is any carbon left in the filter but hey, it's clear. If the second filter performs in the same manner you can be sure, I will be returning to the Samsung filter.

I am a very busy person and, although I'm a fervent believer in sharing and reviewing with other consumers, I don't get around to doing so as much as I would like. This time, I forced myself to do this. Throughout the years shopping at Amazon, I have come to rely on people like you to provide their honest, unbiased feedback on products, which products I will either purchase or not based on the information provided.

So here it is ... this wine cellar arrives in a well-packaged, cushioned box (this is always a good sign for me!); none of those shabby, flimsy boxes that are barely held together by plastic tie raps, and with Chinese characters and markings from all over the planet ...

The tinted glass w/ black trim and black cabinet makes for a very elegant look, conveying a more expensive, refined appearance that belies its price. This unit is truly quiet, and quick to respond to room temperature changes, or user settings. The 12-bottle capacity (6 and 6) is really adequate for me, and I think for most people other than the well-to-do rich and shameless or oenophiles. One of the nicest features, which I did not have in my last wine cooler, is the dual zone compartments with different temperature ranges each to accommodate reds and whites. The unit is fairly light weight, and has sub-minimal vibration. The electronics in the back look very similar to the pcba (printed circuit board) in my last wine cooler that I purchased from Wine Enthusiast much to my regret later. Said unit was supposedly rated best by the wine experts at the Wall Street Journal. I relied on their advice, unfortunately, and had all kinds of issues with the unit. It would not cool down to its lower range except in the winter months (I live in Florida), and -compared to this Haier cellar, it was rather noisy. Careful with purchasing wine coolers in this price range from said vendor. Now back to the unit in question ...

The digital temperature readouts are blue, and are soothing to look at. The interior light is nice, although it does not shine on the lower compartment (for white wines) very well. As I said, even though the circuitry is very similar, the Performance of this unit is Much, much better. I have had the unit for a month and a half now. It has a year's warranty, and a clear, simple instruction manual. I don't recall where the unit was made at this moment. I believe it was either Mexico, or Malaysia. I will confirm that later. Overall, Im pleased with this wine cellar, and relieved that it has met my strict expectations ...

I bought this Haier wine cellar after my Cuisinart broke just one year into its use (it was a wedding gift and otherwise would not have been our first choice). As soon as you unpack the product, the Haier wine cellar looks and sounds a lot more "clean cut" than the Cuisinart, with a sleek black exterior, more pronounced lighting, and a quieter cooling system. Overall the impression is of a well designed product. The unit is very easy to use, I only read the manual to make sure I kept the appropriate distance from walls. One caveat for all potential buyers to know is the fact that this is not designed to be a built-in unit! So make sure you have free standing space. I will update this review after a few weeks of use, but thus far I am very happy with the product, especially considering the price.

It's been almost two weeks now since I received this unit, and I am still very impressed. The fan is very quiet and does not disturb me at all. I wonder if users who report loud fan noises either have a defective unit, or a fan with lots of dust collected around it. I've had my A/C malfunction for two days and the unit did not become any louder than before while still cooling the wine to the indicated temperature.

The full beauty of having a wine fridge with two different temperature zones became apparent when we bought a mixed crate of wine. Being able to store reds and whites in such close proximity but at equally well-adjusted temperatures is wonderful when hosting guests since our unit is in reaching-distance of the dining table (the Cuisinart was a bit of an eye sore, so we had to hide it in the pantry, but the Haier looks nice enough to keep out in the open).

The front panel does tend to collect fingerprints, especially since it is glossy black, but this is a payoff with all shiny-black products and not unique to the Haier wine fridge. The unit is easy to clean and does not require any special cleaning needs.

The unit is still deserving my 5-star rating at this point. I will update the review, should any issues arise.

Received our cooler over a week ago. The unit ships well packaged... both in the factory box (styrofoam padding) and an outer box with thick bubble wrap. We set the cooler up in our dining room, and are pleased with the aesthetics of the design. Further, we were surprised at how quickly it cooled down to the set temperatures, but then we only loaded two bottles in each of the zones (we added more bottle over the course of several days).

Sound level no problem with our cooler. The only sound is that made by the fans, which I would describe as similar to computer fans if not less. This model uses a thermal electric cooler, which means there is no compressor, and thus no compressor sounds.

A note about thermal electric cooling the cold temperatures that may be obtained are based on ambient room temperature. Performance will suffer if you plan on placing the unit in a warm/hot room. From the manual... For this model, when the ambient temperature is 77, the lowest temperature that can be reached is 50 52. When the ambient temperature is 73, the cabinet can reach approximately 46-48.

I placed this unit at 4 stars. The only knock is for performance in warm rooms, and the fact that the descriptions do not state these factors (important to know before making the purchase).

This wine cellar has been fantastic. With the dual zone control it keeps the red's and the white's at the perfect temperature. It is extremely quiet and doesn't make any noise. I would highly recommend this for wine lovers. One drawback is the interior light only illuminates the top cabinet and not the lower half.

I have been purchasing products through Amazon for years and have never felt compelled to complete a review until now. The purchase of this wine cellar has been nothing short of fantastic. The product arrived well packaged and easy to install. Since I have started using the product I have found it to be very quite (it virtually inaudible), compact, aesthetically pleasing, and wonderful if you want to store wines at different temperatures. I did not find any difficulty storing standard sized wine bottles however, the racks are removable on the inside should you choose to store other sized bottles. Since the cellar has been operating in my home there have been two separate weeks when the temperatures outdoors reach 103 degrees and the cellar never showed any difficulties maintaining the refrigerated temperatures I set the compartments to. I cannot recommend this product enough if you are looking for an attractive, compact, and quite little wine cellar.
