LG 5231JA2006A Refrigerator Water Filter, 2-Pack

LG 5231JA2006A Refrigerator Water Filter, 2-PackFilters arrived as expected. Work great. Hardest part was finding out which filter matched the Sears/Kenmore Part Number I needed. For those who might be curious, purchasing these instead of the Sears-packaged version saved only about $5 per filter. Not much, but also saved driving to nearest Sears store. PS: these are the same filters as the Sears #9990 filters for the Kenmore "Trio" bottom-freezer refrigerator

I ordered these filters because the description implies that it has the same filtering performance of the the 5231JA2006B filter. The seller claims they are the same, but according to my research they are not. The paperwork inside the filter box of the 5231JA2006A filter does NOT list the same performance as the paperwork inside the 5231JA2006B filter box.

The price on this item appears to have gone up by about $20.00 in the last two weeks. These are the same exact filters sold by Sears for use in their high-end Kenmore Elite's (built by LG in 2005). I compared build, quality, part number, and packaging. However, when I purchased them they were about half the price compared to sears (I bought a two-pack).

Installation is via a simple twist-lock method. So, if you are replacing the filter for the first time, simply push and twist to remove and push and twit to install. Do not call Sears to do this. They charge a significant fee. For those who have a whole house water filtration system, or an inline (to refrigerator) filtration system (I use a Culligan good water reverse osmosis), the filters should last TWICE as long at the least. I have had many people argue that I do not need a water filter at the refrigerator if I have another system in place. I disagree. I like the idea of a backup in case of equipment failure.

We purchased the refrigerator in July of 2010. In Feb 2011 I ordered new water filters. Right after I installed them, the water began to taste like an old dish rag. I ran gallons of water through the filter, but the taste remained. I replaced the filter thinking maybe I had a bad one. The taste came back. It's only in the water -not the ice. Until I have another excuse, I am blaming the filters. I saved a few bucks but bought the taste.LG 5231JA2006A Refrigerator Water Filter
